Introduction: A patient's hospitalization directly affects the health status of their relatives, therefore, a psychoeducational intervention is required to reduce the effect on families, favoring coping and adaptation. Objective: Determine the components with the highest consensus among experts to operationalize psychoeducational intervention that improves coping and adaptation in relatives of hospitalized patients in Intensive Care Units (ICU). Methodology: Primary quantitative and descriptive study, carried out using the Delphi technique, through a single round among health professionals with more than 2 years of experience in critical patient care or research in this area. Results: 14 items were obtained, distributed as follows: component matrix (3 items) and intervention protocol (11 items). 7.14 % of the items reached a total consensus, 85.7 % acceptable and only 7.14 % of the items did not reach a consensus. Conclusions: The components, activities and actions proposed in the psychoeducational intervention through the matrix of components, such as the intervention protocol, according to the consensus of experts proves to be pertinent, congruent, feasible, and generates impact. This allows to improve coping and adaptation of hospitalized patients in ICU's relatives. The intervention needs to be validated by means of a pilot test and a quasi-experimental study that allow measuring the impact of these results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objetivo. Revisar los estudios que han analizado la relación de bullying/cyberbullying con variables del contexto familiar. Método. Revisión sistemática, basada en el protocolo Prisma, de los documentos registrados en las principales bases de datos de psicología, que incluían las palabras clave bullying/cyberbullying y familia/padres, entre 2004 y 2017. Setenta y cuatro artículos cumplieron los criterios de inclusión. Resultados. La revisión evidenció las siguientes variables familiares asociadas con cada rol: (a) víctimas de bullying: padres/madres autoritarios, punitivos o permisivos; hogares disfuncionales, baja armonía familiar, conflictos, pobre comunicación; reciben muchas críticas, bajo apoyo/atención parental o sobreprotección; (b) cibervíctimas: padres/madres autoritarios o negligentes, conflictos familiares, bajo apoyo parental, padres/madres distantes, vínculos emocionales negativos; (c) agresores de bullying: padres/madres autoritarios, punitivos o permisivos, hogares disfuncionales, conflictos entre padres/madres, violencia doméstica, reciben rechazo, crítica y poco afecto parental; (d) ciberagresores: padres/madres autoritarios, negligentes o permisivos, y conflictos familiares. Por último, resultaron factores protectores: padres/madres democráticas, equilibrados, sin conflictos domésticos, cohesión familiar, interacciones de calidad, fácil comunicación padres-hijos, padres/madres apoyan a sus hijos, son cercanos y fomentan el apego seguro. Conclusión. Algunas variables familiares pueden ser relevantes, aunque en la probabilidad de convertirse en víctima o agresor de bullying y cyberbullying influyan otros factores, como los personales.

Introduction: Satisfying the family needs at the intensive care unit (ICU) is an integral part of the critically-ill patient’s care, which resolves in benefits to the patient, the family and the health center. Objective: To describe the perception about the frequency, pertinence and suitability of the nursing care activities to fulfil the family needs at the ICU. Methods: It is a cross-sectional, descriptive, quantitative study applied to 75 professional ICU-nurses in a Colombian province under a non-probabilistic sampling in 11 III and IV–level hospitals. Information was gathered during 3 months and an ad hoc instrument designed according to a comprehensive review was used. This instrument underwent both an expert and pilot test. The statistical analyses was conducted using the SPSS 25.0 software and the graphics using the R software and a ≥ 75% perception was adopted as the benchmark in the analysis. Results: Seventy-five professional ICU-nurses perceive that out of 63 activities suggested by the instrument, 16 are carried out more frequently, 27 are more pertinent and 24 very suitable. Conclusions: Based on frequency, pertinence and suitability, the nurses who answered the instrument reported that the most important activities are those intended to satisfy the safety needs, then those intended to inform and getting close, and finally those related to support and comfort. Introduction: The intensive care unit (ICU) stay generates feelings of lack of control, uncertainty, and anxiety in the patient and their families related to a lack of information and communication about the health-disease process experienced and the treatment. Objective: to describe the characteristics of communication in the ethnos between the nurse and the family member of the hospitalized patient. Method: a qualitative study with a micro ethnographic approach that used Bardin's proposal for the analysis. The participants were 12 relatives of patients hospitalized in the adult ICU in Bucaramanga and Floridablanca (Colombia) during 2016. A semi-structured interview was conducted with five questions about communication with the nurse practitioner. Results: most of the participants were women, university students, and daughters from cities other than the place of the interview. The main theme that emerges was communication: an honest, direct, and authentic relationship between human beings, made up of four categories: information as the central axis of communication in ICU; communication that is not expressed in words, which is even more important in the relationship; communication does not flow if there is no time, disposition, and conditions to establish the relationship; and communication generates positive feelings and satisfaction. Conclusion: communication as a social process framed in the ICU as a particular ethnos demand from the nurse practitioners’ qualities such as kindness, cordiality, empathy, recognition, and understandable language, as well as feedback and willingness to establish and maintain this vital process for human relationships. Objetivo. Comparar las funciones ejecutivas y los antecedentes de alcoholismo familiar en adolescentes con y sin historia personal de abuso de alcohol. Método. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo-comparativo en el que se evaluaron cuatro grupos de participantes: (a) 15 abusadores de alcohol con historia familiar de alcoholismo, (b) 15 abusadores de alcohol sin historia familiar de alcoholismo, (c) 15 sin consumo de alcohol con historia familiar de alcoholismo y (d) 15 sin consumo de alcohol sin historia familiar de alcoholismo. Para evaluar las funciones ejecutivas de los participantes se emplearon el índice de memoria de trabajo del WISC-IV, el test de fluidez verbal fonológica, el Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, el Stroop, la tarea go/no-go y la tarea del burro hambriento. Resultados. Se encontró menor rendimiento en las pruebas en los adolescentes con antecedentes personales y familiares de abuso de alcohol, con diferencias estadísticamente significativas (p < 0.005) en memoria de trabajo, fluidez verbal, flexibilidad cognoscitiva y toma de decisiones. Conclusión. Los resultados confirman que el compromiso en las funciones ejecutivas junto con los antecedentes familiares de alcoholismo son factores de vulnerabilidad al abuso de alcohol en adolescentes.

Introduction: Holistic care of a critical patient should include approaching her/his family, as they are living specific needs caused by this critical situation. One of them is the information need. This study sets the elements that a nurse should take into account to effectively approach those information needs. Methods: It is a unifying review of the scientific production on this topic between 2007 and 2016. Twenty-three articles were included due to their contribution to understand the elements required to approach the needs described herein. Results: Six categories were defined to denote the elements for the nursing approach: information characteristics; assessment and identification of the information needs; essential skills in a nurse for approaching the information needs; family participation in the care so as to satisfy their information needs; conditions to approach the information needs; and type of information. Conclusions: These elements will make easier for a nurse to approach the family and will contribute to fulfil their information needs, to improve their quality of life, and enhance the quality standards in the health care. Nowadays, human rights face a difficult process towards their effectiveness in people's ordinary lives. There is no denying that human rights theory and doctrine have experienced some remarkable progress. The problem, nonetheless, is of a practical nature, when citizens try to exercise them. This is a problem because the optimal conditions are lacking. Some of the "most essential" human rights can become a reality, if we place them in the context of the human right to the family, which, as a new human right, has the capacity to be useful as an essential right for the exercise of other human rights that they have not better context for their warranty than the family. Introduction: The aging of people is currently awakening interest due to the increase in the life expectancy. Objective: To know the family environment of the elderly in the Centros Vida [Life Centers] in the city of Villavicencio and use the results to build guiding elements intended to educate professional caregivers, thus improving the elderly's quality of life. Method: This work used a qualitative perspective with an ethnographic approach. Three CVs were selected randomly. From each CV a caregiver, an elderly person and his/her family participated in the study. Non-invasive observations and open interviews were used in the study. Nine interviews were completed, then typed and converted in textual units by using the software N-vivo 11. The analysis was carried out simultaneously with the field work. The data were then subject to coding and categorization. Results: Three categories were identified: (1) either accepting or resigning oneself to be an elderly person; (2) the needs of the old age, and (3) the family relationships when there is an elderly person in it. Conclusion: For the elderly, aging is a stage of life coming with losses, neglect, and suffering. This is a very difficult stage when the family does not have enough socio-economic resources; the family needs to accept and support the changes undergone by the elderly. En este artículo se examinan los desafíos de incorporar, en una estrategia organizacional global, las políticas de conciliación trabajo-familia como un elemento clave para el desarrollo social de los países; particularmente, una cultura que incorpore en su gestión organizacional la preocupación por integrar la vida familiar y laboral, trayendo simultáneamente beneficios organizacionales al reducir el ausentismo e incrementar la productividad y el compromiso de los trabajadores . Como contribución a su discusión, se revisan los principales antecedentes conceptuales y teóricos de las transformaciones familiares, sociales y laborales, así como el impacto generado en las organizaciones, puntualmente, en la percepción de los trabajadores y en los resultados organizacionales. A partir de esta revisión se plantea que, aunque es un tópico que requiere un mayor desarrollo, resulta necesario r evisar las políticas públicas a la luz de estos resultados, aplicar las medidas referidas e investigar nuevas acciones apropiadas a Chile para mejorar la calidad de vida en el país.

Background: Family is the space par excellence for the development of human identity and is a person's first socialization group. People have their first experiences, habits, values, and world perceptions, including health, within the family core. Purpose: To analyze oral health status of individuals regarding family functioning. Methods: A descriptive study with 84 persons of 20 families who belonged to the dental office of the Plaza de la Revolution municipality in Havana Cuba was carried out. Patients responded family functioning and oral habits surveys and underwent at-home clinical evaluations (p=0.05, Chi²). Results: Edentulism was predominant (53.57%) mainly among individuals from dysfunctional families. 70.24% had poor oral hygiene; however, most of those with good oral hygiene (88.00%) belonged to functional families. 51.19% only brushed their teeth twice a day, mainly from dysfunctional families. 22.62% of patients reported not consuming sugary foods, most of whom belonged to functional families. 82.05% informed seeing the dentist only when they had an dental emergency, all of them from dysfunctional families. Conclusion: Family functioning showed association with oral health status among the individuals studied. It is advisable to create family-focused preventive oral health programs. The main objective of this survey was to inquire about the psychosocial resources, related with the subjective wellbeing of adults who experienced absence of some of the parents. We carried out semi-structured interview and some Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) prints to 9 nine people that freely accepted to participate and fulfilled the inclusion criteria. We found that the psychosocial resources were means so that the people, even if they experienced absence of some of their parents, could build a subjective wellbeing. This is quite relevant, because as far as we can offer to kids and young people some other possibilities or resources to face the feelings of absence, there will be more possibilities to build up wellbeing in front of Parents increasingly absent. One of the aspects pointed out since the First World Assembly for Aging is the family and the households. Its importance is related to the changes observed in the 20th century, regarding the composition of households and their support function for the elderly. This article presents the way in which the different international, regional and national political instruments have addressed the family and the households, as well as the developments of the implementation of the actions of the national policy of aging and old age. It has the aim of showing the tensions that exist between residential changes in old age and actions oriented towards the regulation of their implications, in a rights perspective. The identification of the advances and tensions of the implementation of the national policy constitutes a contribution to the process of the public institutionality of aging and residential arrangements, and the gaps are pointed between social habits and the regulatory frameworks that regulate and guide them. The sources for this work were institutional documents, interviews with professionals who have worked in the formulation and implementation of national policy, and academics who are dedicated to the investigation of aging and old age in the country. The aim of this research is to validate the Family Quality of Life Scale (FQLS) in a Chilean population and to analyze the factor structure (scope) of this research tool through the critical area map. Crosssectional, correlational, and causal study was carry on 316 families. The Spanish version of the FQSL was used. An exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was conducted. Results showed Cronbach's alpha for the FQLS subscales on Importance rate was 0.884 and on Satisfaction 0.891. The exploratory factor analysis found five dimensions for both categories, and the confirmatory factor analysis showed factor loadings greater than 0.5 for each dimension. Regarding discriminant validity, the cross-loadings varied between 0.64 to 0.97 on Importance and 0.62 to 0.98 on Satisfaction. In relation to convergent validity, each dimension reached a variance above 0.5. Conclusions of the study proved a reliable and valid tool to measure features of family quality of life in a Chilean population. This study aimed to investigate emotional meanings assigned to eating disorders (ED) through the narratives of women affected with these psychopathological conditions. Participants were patients in a Brazilian service specialized in treatment of ED. A semi-structured interview was used for data collection. Recruitment continued until data saturation was reached. The verbatim transcription of interview data was analyzed through thematic content analysis, which was employed by two researchers. Results showed that, after the occurrence of ED, participants began to experience feelings of distress, anxiety, and loneliness, which were related to lowered self-esteem and social isolation. Family dynamics was characterized as confrontational, but in contrast, was considered as participants' primary social support network. These data underlined that the emotional meanings attributed to ED need to be addressed and explored by health care professionals to gain a detailed understanding of patients' illness experiences. This article presents the result of a process of documentary inquiry in the field of mental health, with emphasis on clinical psychology and the family in the context of the Colombian armed conflict. Its purpose is to approach an attempt to understand the orders of the production of explanations on psychopathological phenomena in a context of war and methodological developments, intervention techniques, considering the scientific and social impacts of conflict. We analyzed 62 documents between primary and secondary sources, corresponding to a period of the last 15 years, taking in to consideration the development of trends with historical contextualization, and the development of the public policy of attention to the mental health of the victims. Research axes were configured as means of connection and articulation between the social problem from the argumentative mechanisms of the different disciplines (armed conflict and social context), the researcher's intentions (mental health and psychopathological disorders) and the research problem and armed conflict). Introduction: For health professionals that seek to provide care which aligns with the values, beliefs, practices and perceived need, it is a challenge to know the heterogeneity and cultural diversity of a population group which is rapidly aging. Objective: This article describes the dynamics and health care practices of a family in poverty living with an elderly person with disabilities in the city of Bogotá (Colombia). Method: A qualitative study was developed based on the oral history of life, constructed with the participation of three members of the Vargas family. In-depth interviews total 894 minutes of recording. The collection, processing and data analysis was carried out following the procedure proposed by the Brazilian professor and researcher José Carlos Sebe Bom Meihy. Results: Two major themes emerged: The Vargas family: Between glocal and liquid and The Vargas: between survival and struggle for dignity. Conclusions: The care occurs as an expression of family solidarity in an ambivalent and tense dynamic, with economic and emotional loads which bring deterioration in the quality of life for those who take them. The family supports in the private sphere the heavy burden of care, accumulating many more social disadvantages and in turn end up trapped in a circle of humiliation and indignity. Objetivo. La investigación tuvo como objetivo establecer indicadores del conflicto trabajo-familia desde la perspectiva de rol y sus implicaciones psicosociales, en mujeres profesionales en la modalidad de empleo. Método. Estudio de tipo descriptivo-cualitativo. Las participantes, cinco, mujeres profesionales que trabajaran en la modalidad de empleo, entre 25 y 50 años de edad, convivieran con su pareja y tuvieran hijos entre 0 y 11 años de edad. Se utilizó el análisis de contenido para analizar la información recogida a través de la entrevista estructurada con preguntas abiertas. Resultados. Se encontró que la sobrecarga de rol -tanto en lo laboral como en lo familiar- afecta a las mujeres como antecedente del conflicto trabajo-familia, lo cual se explica por las condiciones laborales (carga de trabajo y formas de contratación) y la doble jornada de trabajo. Otros factores que explican el conflicto trabajo-familia son el conflicto y la ambigüedad de rol. Con respecto a las implicaciones psicosociales, se encontró que la salud se ve afectada por cambios en el estado de ánimo y cansancio físico. Se halló; como factores protectores que ayudan a las mujeres a disminuir la presencia del conflicto trabajo-familia, el apoyo social (doméstico y de pareja) y los recursos internos (la toma de decisiones y el establecimiento de prioridades). Conclusiones. La incorporación de la mujer al mercado de trabajo ha tenido repercusiones en la estructura familiar; se requiere que los diferentes estamentos planteen estrategias que permitan conciliar la interfase de la relación trabajo familia.

Objetivo. La crianza de los hijos es una de las funciones de carácter universal más importantes de la familia. Este estudio aborda la perspectiva y la valoración de los hijos en este proceso, en el que participan activamente. El objetivo del estudio fue construir y validar una escala para medir la percepción de jóvenes estudiantes con respecto a la crianza parental en el ámbito familiar. Método. Se trabajó con una muestra estratificada por área de conocimiento de 727 estudiantes de la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México en la ciudad de Toluca, aplicando el instrumento de manera colectiva en los salones de clase, con la colaboración anónima y voluntaria de los participantes. Resultados. Como resultado del análisis factorial con rotación varimax, la versión final de la escala quedó estructurada con 32 reactivos agrupados en tres factores: mostrar interés en las actividades del hijo, apoyo hacia el hijo y orientación al hijo. La escala obtuvo un Alfa de Cronbach de 0.91, explicando el 41% de la varianza. Los resultados muestran que entre los jóvenes predomina una evaluación positiva de la frecuencia con la que los padres desempeñan las actividades de crianza, considerando que éstos cumplen con su función socializadora. Conclusión. Se concluye que es importante realizar más investigaciones sobre la perspectiva y las experiencias que tienen los hijos en el proceso de crianza y en la interacción con sus padres.

Objetivo: este estudio tuvo como objetivo describir la validez y confiabilidad de un instrumento para medir la crianza que practican las madres mexicanas. Método: se realizó un estudio instrumental con análisis factorial para la validación de un instrumento. Se aplicó el Cuestionario de tareas de crianza para padres, de Rink y Knot-Dickscheit, en una muestra de 670 mujeres de la ciudad de Toluca, que tuvieran hijos de 12 años o más. Resultados: se encontraron siete factores del instrumento: comunicación entre padres e hijos, aceptación de la identidad del hijo, recursos materiales suficientes, control sobre las acciones de los hijos, cuidado de la salud física y mental, límites y expectativas y ambiente y vivienda. Tres de las diez tareas de crianza incluidas en la versión original del Cuestionario ya no aparecieron en el instrumento validado: regularidad en las actividades diarias, buena red social y relaciones mutuas adecuadas en el hogar. Conclusión: se concluye que estos aspectos aparentemente son considerados de menor importancia en el proceso de crianza por las madres en el contexto sociocultural mexicano.

Este artículo examina una realidad social del contexto colombiano, donde se presenta un aumento en el número de personas con lesiones adquiridas y, por consiguiente, de familias que deben afrontar la crisis producida por el impedimento físico. El objetivo es reflexionar sobre el proceso de intervención, y en particular, sobre el proceso conversacional que vive la familia del paciente con discapacidad, al interactuar con los profesionales e instituciones de la salud. Estudios sobre familia señalan la tendencia de sus miembros a silenciar sus ideas y sentimientos para proteger al paciente y a si mismos, lo que lleva al empobrecimiento del contacto emocional. Igualmente, se ha encontrado que hay tendencia en los profesionales de la salud a centrarse en los aspectos procedimentales y técnicos, lo que disminuye el dialogo y la posibilidad de expresar la tensión y otras implicaciones emocionales de dicho evento.

The psychometric properties of the Security in the Family System scale (SIFS) (Davies & Forman, 2005) are analyzed in this paper. SIFS measures children's perceived security in the family system grounded on Emotional Security theory (Cummings & Davies, 2010). Particpants were 845 Spanish adolescents and youth, 180 of whom were institutionalized (mean age 15.67 years) while 665 lived with their families (mean age 14.9 years). Confirmatory factor analyses and configural, metric,scalar and strict invariance analyses were performed. Results showed that the instrument is adequate to evaluate Spanish adolescents' and youth's security in the family whether they live with their families or they are institutionalized. The three dimensions predicted by the theory were identified (security, preoccupation and disengagement) with a good internal consistency and comparable punctuations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

By means of seven Chilean dramas (Díaz Meza, Hurtado Borne, Cariola, Luco Cruchaga, Huidobro, Acevedo Hernández, Moock, and Bunster) we analyze the family models present in their dramatic and imaginary conflicts. We offer a critical analysis of these seven works, covering the synchronic dimension of their constants, while also concluding the transformations that are visible in a diachronic analysis. In this way, we suggest a reading of the functions that the represented family model complies with, along with the relationships established in its contingent connection with the public sphere. This study aimed to verify the contribution of the variables regarding the relations in familiar, friendship and school contexts in predicting the perceptions of well-being, health and body image of adolescents. Participants are 3.396 adolescents from the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre. The instruments used were the Health Behavior in Schoolchildren, the Positive and Negative Affects Scale, the General Health Questionnaire and the Brief Multidimensional Student Life Satisfaction Scale. Using structural equation modeling, the results present an adequate model to explain the well-being, the health and the body image. This essay intends to approach Fernando Vallejo's novel El desbarrancadero as a distinctive model for the study of individual and collective identity. Memory, legacy and affection are seen as conceptual tools for the understanding of people's sense of national belonging. We focus in the need to search for a new, sharp and biting narrative necessary for questioning the official approach of a nation as an unitary entity, and for the understanding of the rift that political violence has generated in Colombian society. The goal of this study was to determine a model of relationship in order to predict school-age adolescents suicide ideation. A model based on peers’ suicidal behavior, father and mother’s support, family violence and depression was proposed. A sample of 912 subjects was used. Introducción: estudiar la problemática de las personas en condición de desplazamiento se constituye hoy en día en prioridad nacional, ya que es de máxima actualidad. Objetivo: obtener información en la localidad de Suba, Bogotá, sobre población en estado de desplazamiento, conformada por un conjunto de personas de diferentes edades y sexo, que representan diferentes grupos étnicos del país y diversas razas. Material y métodos: la selección de la muestra se realizó a través de un muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia. La muestra fue constituida por 32 familias convocadas por la Fundación Salud, Familia y Comunidad. Las personas en condición de desplazamiento fueron encuestadas con el propósito de conocer condiciones previas y actuales. Resultados y conclusiones: las familias escogidas para este estudio estaban apoyadas por la Unidad de Atención y Orientación a la Población desplazada (UAO Suba). Su principal característica era la de ser personas en condición de desplazamiento forzado, provenientes siempre de la provincia colombiana. En esta investigación encontramos que, la mayor parte del grupo desea establecerse en la capital, debido a las circunstancias de violencia vividas previas al desplazamiento. Las condiciones de servicios públicos ya encontrados en la ciudad, atraen su permanencia, el grupo que desea permanecer, aspira a mejorar sus condiciones de hacinamiento, y tener una mejor calidad de vida. This article reformulates canon hypotheses about intellectual identity, the relationship among intellectuals, rationality and causes, the availability of intellectuals to get together and other aspects of the issue, as explained in the book Entre la pluma y el fusil. The intention here is to record, in a definition with a longer duration, that of the "intellectuals," by including the new conditions for their intervention generated by going from the Grafosfera to the Videoesfera, and other transitions that have given rise to our present. It reviews previous hypotheses linked to the conceptualization of an intellectual "family" in the Latin America of the 1960s and 1970s vis-à-vis the place occupied by women, the role of Ángel Rama and Emir Rodríguez Monegal around the so-called "boom" of Latin American literature, and it tries to shed light on the current challenges that allow the creation of networks and educated associations. From a constructivist perspective, the present study seek to determine the impact of economic literacy strategies recognized by children as used by their parents to orient them economically about the development of their economic thought and the joint effect of socioeconomic status, family structure and age of children. To accomplish these goals, it was selected a random sample of 151 children who assist to school regularly. They are between 10 and 14 years old in the city of Barranquilla. During the study, it was applied an interview guide and the test of economic literacy to these children. The results of multiple linear regression model with dummy variables show that when children get older, they present an increased understanding of the economic world and their parents used a greater number of economic literacy strategies and less likely to advance in the development of their economic thought if they belong to low socioeconomic status. The study of the characteristics of family celebration in current Judaism, evidences the great wealth, creativity, and dynamism of Jewish families in strengthening their identity and celebrating their faith. Judaism, without its Temple, committed itself to the family as the new center of its cultic life and found the key to survival in the complement between the synagogue and the household. The Jewish model, reasonably viewed, may be the source of inspiration for Christianism, which throughout the centuries, moved away from the household, enclosed itself in temples and blurred the common priesthood of the faithful in the cultic life. Introduction: Entering a relative in an intensive care unit (ICU) is an overwhelming experience for the family, recognized as essential to the health of the patient. The caregiver, as a significant member of the family, is also exposed to distressing situations that generate needs to be identified to promote their well-being and quality of life. Objectives: To describe the needs of family caregivers of chronic adult hospitalized patients in ICU in a private health care provider institution in Villavicencio, Colombia. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional and quantitative study. It was used The Critical Care Family Needs Inventory (CCFNI) instrument, by Nancy Jane Molter and Leske, which assesses the degree of importance that family give to the support needs, comfort, information, proximity and safety when they have a relative admitted in the ICU. Family caregivers were interviewed (n = 37) during a trimester and information on SPSS version 14 was processed. Results: Safety is considered the most important requirement, with 86%; followed by information, with 82%, and proximity, with 78%. Conclusions: For nursing, the felt needs by family caregivers of chronic hospitalized adults in an ICU are the basis to provide comprehensive care and make the experience in ICU less daunting. This study aimed to verify the relationship between depression, hopelessness and family support. to this aim, were applied the Escala Baptista de Depressão-Adulto EBADEP- A, The Beck Hopelessness Scale –BHS, Inventário de Percepção de Suporte Familiar- IPSF and a sociodemographic questionnaire on a sample of 198 undergraduate of Pharmacy and Psychology courses of a particular university at São Paulo state (Brazil) with mean age of 23.44 years (SD = 6.8), and with a prevalence of women (80.7%). Results showed significant and positive correlations between EBADEP- A and BHS and significant and negative correlations between EBADEP- A/ BHS and IPSF, indicating that the higher perception of family support the fewer depressive symptoms and hopelessness, agreeing with literature.
