The Schiff base ligand (HL) obtained from phenylmethanamine and 5-methoxysalicylaldehyde are used as ligands for Co(II) and Ni(II) resulting in complexes [Co(L)2] (I) and [Ni(L)2] (II), and their solid state structures were determined by X-ray crystallography. In both complexes, weak interactions play an important role in the molecular self-assembly. Complex I was stacked up to the 2D layers by C-H…O hydrogen bonds and C-H…π interactions. In contrast, complex II was extended into 2D sheet by C-H…O hydrogen bonds, the C-H…π interactions, and edge-to-face interactions.

A new complex [Dy2(Pht)2(HPht)2(Phen)2(H2O)4] (I), where Pht2− = dianion of o-phthalic acid; HPht− = mono-anion of o-phthalic acid; Phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, has been synthesized and the crystal structure was determined by X-ray crystallography. The I crystallizes in the triclinic system, space group \(P\bar 1\) with lattice parameters a =10.1126(3) A, b =10.7029(3) A, c = 11.9360(3) A, α = 90.2260(10)°, β = 99.5340(10)°, γ = 100.9810(10)°, V = 1249.87(6) A3, Z = 2, ρcalcd = 1.881 mg m−3. The photophysical property of I has been studied with excitation and emission spectra.

A solvothermal reaction of 2-pyrazinic acid with Zn(SO4)2 · 7H2O yielded the title complex of the formula {[Zn2(Pyz)2(H2O)4] · SO4}n (I). X-ray diffraction study shows that the complex I crystallizes in mono-clinic system, space group P21/c, with lattice parameters a = 11.2687(6), b = 7.3511(4), c = 11.8506(7) A, β = 95.070(2)°, V = 977.83(9) A3, Z = 4, and ρcalcd = 2.184 mg m−3.
