Objective The aim is to study the application of calcium-based dry desulfurizer in the field of flue gas desulfurization, and give full play to the advantages of low cost, good desulfurization performance and environmental friendliness of calcium-based desulfurizer, so as to achieve the up-to-standard emission of SO2 in flue gas. Methods The physical and chemical properties of the prepared calcium-based desulfurizer were characterized by XRD, BET, FTIR and XPS. Additionally, simulating sulfur-containing waste gas, the effects of SO2 content, reaction temperature, O2 content and volume space velocity on the desulfurization performance of calciumbased dry desulfurizer were investigated by a fixed bed reactor. Results The prepared calcium-based desulfurizer demonstrated effective desulfurization, and its optimum operating temperature range was 220-300 ℃, which was suitable for the case that the volume fraction of SO2 in flue gas did not exceed 0.4%. The increase of O2 content produced new active sites for adsorption, which could promote desulfurization process. When the volume space velocity was in the range of 500-2 000 h−1, the sulfur capacity did not change much. Conclusions The application of calcium-based dry desulfurizer in the field of flue gas desulfurization has high efficiency and stability, which can provide reference for its wide application in the industrial field. The 5 000 t/a sulfur recovery unit in the refinery of PetroChina Ningxia Petrochemical Company used two-stage Claus and low temperature hydrogenation-reduction absorption process before improvement. The hydrogenated tail gas was absorbed by MDEA. The mass concentration of SO2 in flue gas was 500 - 800 mg/m3. The method of centralized regeneration was adopted in solvent regeneration system. Based on the design process provided by Research Institute of Natural Gas Technology(RINGT) , PetroChina Southwest Oil & Gasfield Company, the refinery carried out a new technology improvement. The hydrolysis was enhanced by Ti-based catalyst which was developed by RINGT and two-stage absorption process was applied. The SO2 mass concentration in flue gas from sulfur recovery unit was about 50 mg/m3 after improvement, which had met the discharge standard. The technology improvement could provide technical ideas and solutions for the tail gas up-to-standard discharge of the small-scale sulfur recovery units, especially for the factories which are difficult to treat lye and alkaii residue. The general situation of a sulfur recovery and tail gas treatment unit in carbon disulfide industry is introduced. The composition of process gas at the beginning of operation is analyzed, and then the data about organic sulfur hydrolysis and gas composition after hydrogenation is obtained. The reasons of higher hydrogen consumption, larger pressure difference and pH value reduction of chilled water are discussed. Combined with catalyst evaluation, corresponding suggestions are proposed. The hydrogenation section of unit runs well after hydrogenation catalyst resulfurized. The results of industrial application show that the combination of CT6-11 low temperature tail gas hydrogenation catalyst and CT6-8 Ti-based catalyst has been applied successfully, which can be applied to similar devices.
