Background A history of pre-administration of immune checkpoint inhibitors has been reported to be associated with good outcomes of ramucirumab (RAM) plus docetaxel (DOC) combination therapy for advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, existing knowledge on the clinical significance of RAM and DOC following combined chemoimmunotherapy is limited. Therefore, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of RAM plus DOC therapy after combined chemoimmunotherapy and attempted to identify the predictors of its outcomes. Patients and Methods This multicenter, prospective study investigated the efficacy and safety of RAM plus DOC after combined chemoimmunotherapy. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS). Secondary endpoints were the objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), overall survival (OS), and incidence of adverse events. An exploratory analysis measured serum cytokine levels at the start of treatment. Results Overall, 44 patients were enrolled from 10 Japanese institutions between April 2020 and June 2022. The median PFS and OS were 6.3 and 22.6 months, respectively. Furthermore, the ORR and DCR were 36.4% and 72.7%, respectively. The high vascular endothelial growth factor D (VEGF-D) group had a significantly shorter PFS and OS. A combination of high VEGF-A and low VEGF-D levels was associated with a longer PFS. Conclusion Our results showed that RAM plus DOC after combined chemoimmunotherapy might be an effective and relatively feasible second-line treatment for patients with advanced NSCLC in a real-world setting. The article presents a study that examines the application of xylitol dehydrogenase gene (XDH) of Bacillus pallidus (B. pallidus) in the production of L-xylulose. It states that the XDH has been cloned and overexpressed in Escherichia coli using pQE60 vector. It mentions that three chromatographic steps are made in purifying XDH to homogeneity. It reveals that the application of recombinant XDH leads to the 35% production of L-xylulose.

The article describes how D-psicose can be produced conveniently from allitol by microbial oxidation of the isolated strain Enterobacter aerogenes IK7. According to the authorS, cells grown in tryptic soy broth medium (TSB) supplemented with D-mannitol at 37°C were found to have the best oxidation potential. They add that 10% of allitol was completely transformed to the product D-psicose, which becomes economically feasible for the mass production of D-psicose.

The article describes the cloning and sequencing of arabinose metabolite genes from Mycobacterium smegmatis and the purification and characterization of recombinant L-arabinose isomerase. According to the authors, L-arabinose isomerase gene expression is regulated at the transcription level by the induction of various sugars from Escherichia coli with the same hydroxyl configurations at C2, C3 and C4 positions.

Abstract: A [Fe]-hydrogenase gene (hydA) was cloned from Clostridium paraputrificum M-21 in Escherichia coli using a conserved DNA sequence of clostridial hydrogenase genes amplified by PCR as the probe. The hydA gene consisted of an open reading frame of 1749 bp encoding 582 amino acids with an estimated molecular mass of 64,560 Da. It was ligated into a shuttle vector, pJIR751, originally constructed for Clostridium perfringens and E. coli, and expressed in C. paraputrificum. Hydrogen gas productivity of the recombinant increased up to 1.7-fold compared with the wild-type. In the recombinant, overexpression of hydA abolished lactic acid production and increased acetic acid production by over-oxidation of NADH, which is required for reduction of pyruvic acid to lactic acid in the wild-type.
