We report the discovery and analysis of a planet in the microlensing event OGLE-2018-BLG-0799. The planetary signal was observed by several ground-based telescopes, and the planet-host mass ratio is q = (2.65 ± 0.16) × 10−3. The ground-based observations yield a constraint on the angular Einstein radius θE, and the microlensing parallax vector $\boldsymbol{{\pi} }_{\rm E}$, is strongly constrained by the Spitzer data. However, the 2019 Spitzer baseline data reveal systematics in the Spitzer photometry, so there is ambiguity in the magnitude of the parallax. In our preferred interpretation, a full Bayesian analysis using a Galactic model indicates that the planetary system is composed of an $M_{\rm planet} = 0.26_{-0.11}^{+0.22}M_{\rm J}$ planet orbiting an $M_{\rm host} = 0.093_{-0.038}^{+0.082}~\mathrm{M}_{\odot }$, at a distance of $D_{\rm L} = 3.71_{-1.70}^{+3.24}$ kpc. An alternate interpretation of the data shifts the localization of the minima along the arc-shaped microlens parallax constraints. This, in turn, yields a more massive host with median mass of $0.13 {\, \mathrm{M}_{\odot }}$ at a distance of 6.3 kpc. This analysis demonstrates the robustness of the osculating circles formalism, but shows that further investigation is needed to assess how systematics affect the specific localization of the microlens parallax vector and, consequently, the inferred physical parameters.

Introduction Mild traumatic brain injuries (TBI) induce persistent dysregulated sleep, reactive oxygen species (ROS), and inflammation. Nucleotide-binding domain leucine rich family pyrin containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasomes are protein complexes that stimulate caspase-1 to activate the somnogenic pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and IL-18. ROS induce thioredoxin interacting protein (TXNIP) to activate NLRP3 inflammasomes by inhibiting thioredoxin which inhibits ROS. We previously found that mice lacking NLRP3 have increased non-rapid-eye movement (NREM) sleep and slow-wave activity (SWA) 24 h after mild TBI, but at 2 months post-injury theses values are reduced. Following up on this, we sought to determine the activity of NLRP3 inflammasomes in glia and neurons after mild TBI. Methods Two-month-old mice lacking NLRP3, and wild-type mice received a craniectomy and mild TBI via controlled cortical impact or sham. Frontal and somatosensory cortices were collected without a TBI and at 24 h and 2 months post-TBI. Microglia, astrocytes, and neurons were isolated using fluorescent-activated cell sorting, and reactive oxygen species (ROS), RNA and protein were quantified using RT-PCR and ELISAs. Significance was set at p < 0.05. Results RNA, protein, and ROS control treatment values were similar for both genotypes in cortical microglia, astrocytes, and neurons. In wild-type mice, NLRP3, IL-1β, IL-18, caspase-1, and TXNIP expression along with ROS values were significantly greater and thioredoxin expression was significantly less in cortical microglia, astrocytes, and neurons 24 h and 2 months post-TBI. In wild-type cortical microglia, astrocytes, and neurons NLRP3, IL-1β, and TXNIP expression levels were significantly greater in these cell types 2 months vs. 24 h post-TBI. Wild-type mice caspase-1 activity and NLRP3, IL-18, IL-1β, and TXNIP protein levels, were significantly greater and thioredoxin protein levels were significantly less in both cortical areas 24 h and 2 months post-TBI. Mice lacking NLRP3 showed significant increased values of TXNIP but reduced thioredoxin expression and protein levels 24 and 2 months post-TBI but no significant differences in other measures. Conclusion Our findings suggest that TBI induces persistent oxidative stress, TXNIP, and NLRP3 inflammasome activation in cortical glia and neurons that likely contributes to sleep dysregulation. Herschel FIR continuum data obtained as part of the Hi-GAL survey have been used, together with the GLIMPSE 8 $\mu$m and MIPSGAL 24 $\mu$m data, to attempt the first 3D-decomposition of dust emission associated with atomic, molecular and ionized gas at 15 arcmin angular resolution. Our initial test case is a 2$\times$2 square degrees region centred on (l,b)=(30$^{\circ}$,0$^{\circ}$), a direction that encompasses the origin point of the Scutum-Crux Arm at the tip of the Galactic Bar. Coupling the IR maps with velocity maps specific for different gas phases (HI 21cm, $^{12}$CO and $^{13}$CO, and RRLs), we estimate the properties of dust blended with each of the gas components and at different Galactocentric distances along the LOS. A statistical Pearson's coefficients analysis is used to study the correlation between the column densities and the intensity of the IR emission. This analysis provides evidence that the 2$\times$2 square degree field under consideration is characterized by the presence of a gas component not accounted for by the standard tracers, possibly associated with warm H$_{2}$ and cold HI. We present a Herschel far-infrared study towards the rich massive star- forming complex G305, utilising PACS 70, 160 {\mu}m and SPIRE 250, 350, and 500 {\mu}m observations from the Hi-GAL survey of the Galactic plane. The focus of this study is to identify the embedded massive star-forming population within G305, by combining far-infrared data with radio continuum, H2O maser, methanol maser, MIPS, and Red MSX Source survey data available from previous studies. By applying a frequentist technique we are able to identify a sample of the most likely associations within our multi-wavelength dataset, that can then be identified from the derived properties obtained from fitted spectral energy distributions (SEDs). By SED modelling using both a simple modified blackbody and fitting to a comprehensive grid of model SEDs, some 16 candidate associations are identified as embedded massive star-forming regions. We derive a two-selection colour criterion from this sample of log(F70/F500)\geq 1 and log(F160/F350)\geq 1.6 to identify an additional 31 embedded massive star candidates with no associated star-formation tracers. Using this result we can build a picture of the present day star-formation of the complex, and by extrapolating an initial mass function, suggest a current population of \approx 2 \times 10^4 young stellar objects (YSOs) present, corresponding to a star formation rate (SFR) of 0.01-0.02 M\odot yr^-1. Comparing this resolved star formation rate, to extragalactic star formation rate tracers (based on the Kennicutt-Schmidt relation), we find the star formation activity is underestimated by a factor of \geq 2 in comparison to the SFR derived from the YSO population.

Anomalous microwave emission is known to exist in the Perseus cloud. One of the most promising candidates to explain this excess of emission is electric dipole radiation from rapidly rotating very small dust grains, commonly referred to as spinning dust. Photometric data obtained with the Spitzer Space Telescope have been reprocessed and used in conjunction with the dust emission model DUSTEM to characterise the properties of the dust within the cloud. This analysis has allowed us to constrain spatial variations in the strength of the interstellar radiation field ($\chi_\mathrm{ISRF}$), the mass abundances of the PAHs and VSGs relative to the BGs (Y$_\mathrm{PAH}$ and Y$_\mathrm{VSG}$), the column density of hydrogen (N$_\mathrm{H}$) and the equilibrium dust temperature (T$_\mathrm{dust}$). The parameter maps of Y$_\mathrm{PAH}$, Y$_\mathrm{VSG}$ and $\chi_\mathrm{ISRF}$ are the first of their kind to be produced for the Perseus cloud, and we used these maps to investigate the physical conditions in which anomalous emission is observed. We find that in regions of anomalous emission the strength of the ISRF, and consequently the equilibrium temperature of the dust, is enhanced while there is no significant variation in the abundances of the PAHs and the VSGs or the column density of hydrogen. We interpret these results as an indication that the enhancement in $\chi_\mathrm{ISRF}$ might be affecting the properties of the small stochastically heated dust grains resulting in an increase in the spinning dust emission observed at 33 GHz. This is the first time that such an investigation has been performed, and we believe that this type of analysis creates a new perspective in the field of anomalous emission studies, and represents a powerful new tool for constraining spinning dust models.

The hot Jupiter HD 209458b was observed during primary transit at 3.6, 4.5, 5.8 and 8.0 microns using the Infrared Array Camera (IRAC) on the Spitzer Space Telescope. We detail here the procedures we adopted to correct for the systematic trends present in the IRAC data. The light curves were fitted including limb darkening effects and fitted using Markov Chain Monte Carlo and prayer-bead Monte Carlo techniques, finding almost identical results. The final depth measurements obtained by a combined Markov Chain Monte Carlo fit are at 3.6 microns, 1.469 +- 0.013 % and 1.448 +- 0.013 %; at 4.5 microns, 1.478 +- 0.017 % ; at 5.8 microns, 1.549 +- 0.015 % and at 8.0 microns 1.535 +- 0.011 %. Our results clearly indicate the presence of water in the planetary atmosphere. Our broad band photometric measurements with IRAC prevent us from determining the additional presence of other other molecules such as CO, CO2 and methane for which spectroscopy is needed. While water vapour with a mixing ratio of 10^-4-10^-3 combined with thermal profiles retrieved from the day-side may provide a very good fit to our observations, this data set alone is unable to resolve completely the degeneracy between water abundance and atmospheric thermal profile.

What impact did immigration and European integration have on the 2010 general election campaign and result? We explain why immigration was a salient campaign issue, while European integration barely figured. We show that the Conservatives learned to speak less about European integration and immigration as part of their re-evaluation of campaign strategy following three successive defeats. For different reasons, Labour were not keen to talk about immigration. Labour were in fact damaged by perceptions that they had lost control of immigration. We also explain why both the UK Independence Party and the British National Party failed to make the election breakthrough that some had foreseen following their relative successes in the 2009 European Parliament election.
