By utilizing PRN code and phase detection method under 1GHz sub-carrier modulation, an improved ToF Lidar is proposed which achieves millimeter accuracy under extremely low SNR over 60 meters without ambiguity in distance ranging.

A novel type of microring assisted by subwavelength reflection unit is studied. By adding well-designed subwavelength reflection unit to the waveguide, the SRAMRR shows enhanced group delay, flat top, shape factor and out-band suppression.

We demonstrate a self-injection locking of Fabry-Perot laser diode with narrow linewidth of 8 kHz. The laser has output power of 7 dBm and SMSR of 45 dB with wavelength switchable range of 17 nm.

Dispersion ultimately limits the efficiency of the nonlinear process in the optical waveguide. Traditional dispersion engineering method is to tailor the cross-section of the waveguide with both of the height and width. However, the fabrication process limits the design freedom of the height in some cases. To solve the problem, we develop a dispersion engineering technique based on spatial mode coupling. Just by tailoring the width of waveguide without altering the height, the proposed method achieves anomalous dispersion with a range of 70 nm numerically and experimentally changes the dispersion of a micro-ring resonator from -750 ± 30 ps/nm/km to 1300 ± 200 ps/nm/km over a wavelength range of 25 nm with high Q of 0.8 million on the Si3N4/SiO2 waveguide platform. This technique overcomes the restrict from the fabrication process to the optical waveguide on the dispersion control and can enlarge application of the nonlinear optics on chip.

We propose an adaptive 3-D optimization including bit loading, power loading and TCM for optical direct-detection OFDM in the fading channel. This method is experimentally demonstrated to improve both the receiver sensitivity and capacity.

A fully integrated photonic-assisted tunable RF transceiver based on SOI technology has been proposed and experimentally demonstrated, which contains the signal processing units of the up/down-conversion, phase shifting and filtering as well as the frequency multiplier of the local oscillator.

We develop a dispersion engineering technique based on tailoring the width of waveguide. It achieves anomalous dispersion with a range of 70 nm numerically and alters the dispersion from −820±30 ps/nm/km to −140±40 ps/nm/km experimentally.

We report generation of terahertz repetition rate pulse directly from Erbium-Ytterbium co-doped fiber based on the combination effect of amplification and nonlinear phase locking. The repetition rate is up to 2.75 terahertz and the pulse width is 100 femtosecond.

We propose a novel photonic approach to gauge the angle-of-arrival (AOA) and time-difference-of-arrival (TDOA) of microwave signals. The phase shift of a microwave signal at 6 GHz from 65° to 120° is measured with a maximum measurement standard error of 0.25°.

A mutli-band photonic-assisted RF photonic frontend based on the high Q bandpass filter has been experimentally demonstrated at U- and V-band. The SFDR from 40 GHz to 65 GHz are larger than 95 dB-Hz2/3.

We present a compressed sensing (CS) based imaging flow cytometer with a throughput of 100,000 cells/s. Image reconstructions are demonstrated with a 1.25-MHz frame rate and a four-fold compression of acquired data.

A two-dimensional temporal compressive sampling microscopic camera with a frame rate of 500 kHz is demonstrated in this paper, achieving higher frame rate and lower sampling bandwidth than the conventional compressive sampling cameras.

In this paper, a four-channel photonic-assisted compressive sampling system with large bandwidth is demonstrated, where sparse spectrum in the 2-19 GHz range with 50-kHz resolution is recovered from samples of compressed spectrums with 360-MHz bandwidth.

A highly efficient, narrow linewidth, time-dispersion-tuned all-fiber-integrated optical parametric oscillator is demonstrated. The output wavelength can be continuously tuned in the ranges from 960 to 1048 nm and from 1078 to 1180 nm.

101 W all-fiber-integrated supercontinuum is generated by pumping a piece of single-core photonic crystal fiber with a self-made picosecond fiber laser. Also 74 W broadband supercontinuum is obtained from a multi-core photonic crystal fiber.

We experimentally demonstrate linearized X- and K-band APLs incorporating photonic downconversion based on digital post-compensation. The IMD products are suppressed by more than 21 dB and an SFDR as high as 124.2 dB-Hz2/3 is achieved with an improvement of 8 dB.
