The document describes the procedure, clinical cut-offs, and analyses to be used for the report from the Norwegian Veterans' Health Survey 2020. It is registered after data collection and before the extradition of data from the Norwegian Armed Forces Health Registry.

Improvements in daily functioning tend to lag behind symptom change in adults treated for depression. Few similar studies exist for youth. Around half of recent youth depression trials tracked functioning; the remainder drew conclusions based on symptom change only, risking to over-estimate impact. By assuming that symptomatic improvement translates into functional improvement in a consistent manner we may forego the chance to understand why some youth do not measurably improve. In this study we will analyze data from the Improving Mood with Psychoanalytic and Cognitive Therapies (IMPACT) trial. The trial enrolled 465 adolescents with a diagnosis of major depression, aged 11-17 years, from 15 child and adolescents mental health clinics in the United Kingdom. Depressive symptoms and functioning will be operationalized via items from the Mood and Feelings Questionnaire (MFQ), and the Health of the Nation Outcome Scale for Children and Adolescents (HoNOSCA). We will use Latent Growth Curve Modelling to examine how change trajectories in depressive symptoms are associated with trajectories in functional impairment during psychotherapy and follow-up. We will use Growth Mixture Modelling to explore whether we can identify distinct trajectory classes based on shared change patterns in the two dimensions of symptomatic and functional improvement, and whether any baseline characteristics allow for the prediction of trajectory class membership.
