The overarching aim of this scoping review is to summarize the extent, range, and nature of research activity in the field of patient-facing mobile health applications supporting perioperative care and surgical recovery.

Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols refer to patient-centered, evidence-based, multimodal perioperative care pathways aimed to reduce the patient’s surgical stress response, optimize their physiological function, and facilitate recovery. The use of ERAS protocols on post-operative-operative outcomes in elective settings are well supported with multiple meta-analyses. However, there is minimal research studying the use of ERAS protocols in high risk surgical patients such as those undergoing trauma and emergency abdominal surgery. We will conduct a scoping review to map previous literatures for the sake of developing of ERAS protocols for this surgical population.
