This study will investigate whether drinking from glasses displaying health warnings affects drink behaviour and other alcohol-related outcomes. In a human laboratory experiment we will manipulate the glassware (health warning glassware vs. control glassware) to examine the differences in alcohol consumption, alcohol urges and alcohol-related attitudes.

CANTAB Connect Research is a validated, precise and reliable research software providing sensitive digital measures of cognitive function for all areas of brain research. Currently, normative data only exists for adult participants. Before normative data can be collected from paediatric participants, the current tests may need to be adapted for paediatric use. Therefore, the aim of this study is to evaluate the user experience of various CANTAB tests in children between the ages of 7 to 11 years.

The aim of this pilot study is to inform the design of study investigating effects of nicotine on appetite and food intake. First, the pilot study will assess the aversive effects of nicotine using two different doses. Second, the pilot study will assess the effectiveness (i.e., matching) of a non-matched placebo for nicotine buccal spray.

Recent work in rodents has identified that a mixture of long-chain aldehydes, which activate receptors within the OR37 sub-family of olfactory receptors (ORs), can reduce neuroendocrine correlates of stress reactivity by around 50%. OR37 receptors are highly preserved across mammals suggesting similar effects may occur in humans. The aim of this pilot study is to inform the design of a future study which will investigate if exposure to an OR37 ligand mixture will reduce subjective, physiological and behavioural measures of stress and anxiety in humans.

This is a pre-registration of an updated version of the detailed statistical analysis plan, before any analyses are conducted.

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of nicotine on eating topography in non-dependent smokers. Participants will attend two sessions approximately one week apart. At one session participants will receive nicotine and at the other they will receive placebo via a buccal (mouth) spray before undergoing a test of food intake. We hypothesise that nicotine administration will result in reduced portion size and consumption rate compared to placebo administration.

This is a registration of an updated analysis plan, prior to the analyses being conducted. To better inform a UK government proposal to consult on an intention to make companies provide alcohol calorie labelling, as part of an obesity strategy, we have added calories selected and purchased as additional secondary outcomes.

The aim of this study is to investigate whether alcohol drinkers are familiar with the term “mindful drinking”, what their interpretation of this term is, if they currently engage in mindful drinking, and exploring the barriers and facilitators to engagement.

The aim of this study is to estimate the impact of increasing the proportion (i.e., the relative availability) of draught alcohol-free beer on alcohol consumption in bars and public houses. The study is a randomised four-period crossover trial where all participating sites (bars and public houses) will perform two intervention periods and two control periods. During the intervention periods, sites will remove one draught alcoholic beer and replace it with one draught alcohol-free beer. During the control periods, sites will have no alcohol-free beer on draught (i.e., usual practice).​ The primary outcome is the mean volume (in litres) of draught alcoholic beer (lager and ale combined) sold weekly.
