A preprint abstract from biorxiv.org discusses the influence of auditory feedback on speech production and the variability in susceptibility to auditory feedback manipulations among neurotypical individuals. The study found that delaying auditory feedback (DAF) disrupted speech fluency and perturbing the pitch of auditory feedback (PAF) resulted in vocal alterations. Visual feedback did not alleviate the disruptive effects of DAF, and individuals susceptible to one manipulation did not consistently exhibit susceptibility to the other, suggesting distinct processing mechanisms for different types of auditory feedback manipulations. The study provides insights into the importance of auditory feedback in speech production and the individual variability in response to manipulations. [Extracted from the article]
