A recent study conducted by Emory University explored the relationship between cumulative stress across the life course and biological aging in adulthood. The study found that psychosocial stressors, such as economic, social, and traumatic stressors, were associated with accelerated epigenetic aging. However, these associations were attenuated after adjusting for smoking status. Additionally, the study found that greater childhood stress was associated with accelerated epigenetic aging among women but not men.
