A study conducted by researchers from Isfahan University of Medical Sciences in Iran aimed to determine the average cutoff values of serum-free and total testosterone (FT, TT) and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) levels in healthy premenopausal women. The study included 489 women aged 18-55 years without signs and symptoms of hyperandrogenism. The researchers found that the mean levels of FT, TT, and DHEAS in the total population were 1.40 pg/mL, 0.42 ng/mL, and 1.5 μg/mL, respectively. They also established cutoff values for FT and TT to differentiate patients with higher hirsutism scores from the normal population. The study concluded that the reference range for testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate levels in women during reproductive age in the Iranian population remained consistent, even in women with irregular menstrual cycles.
