Abstract

The article focuses on the family case cluster of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection which occurred in November 2012. It mentions that the Patient 1 in the case clusters was a 70-year-old retired soldier with type 2 diabetes and the father of the Patient 2, a 39-year-old factory worker in Saudi Arabia. The findings of the case clusters suggests all countries must take continued risk assessment, surveillance and vigilance.

Abstract

The article discusses a study that described human-to-human transmission of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) in a health care setting. Estimates of the incubation period, serial interval were presented. The clinical features of MERS-CoV are cited. Findings showed evidence that human-to-person transmission of MERS-CoV can occur in health care settings and is associated with considerable morbidity. The importance of surveillance and infection-control measures is emphasized.
