The main methods of treatment for cervical cancer are surgery, radiotherapy or their combination. During past two decades chemotherapy are increasingly being used not only in patients with disseminated forms of this disease but also in patients undergoing chemoradiotherapy or as induction therapy. Possibilities of adjuvant chemotherapy for cervical cancer are being studied. According to A.D.Kaprin and V.V. Starinskiy in 2013 in Russia, 32% of patients with newly diagnosed cervical cancer underwent only radiation therapy, 32%--combined or complex treatment, 27.3%--only surgery, and just 8.7%--chemoradiotherapy.

The article is devoted to one of the most controversial issues of modern oncogynecology--the volume of surgery for endometrial cancer of early stages. There are discussed the indications for lymphadenectomy and its volume as well as how correlate performing lymphadenectomy and conducting postoperative radiotherapy.

The paper deals with the data on treatment of 63 patients with serous borderline tumors of the ovary (SBTO). Mean age was 40.2 years. The study included 30 patients (47.6%) with stage IA tumor, 15 (23.8%)--IB, 4 (6.3%)--II and 14 (22.2%)--stage III. Relapse frequency was 14.3%, irrespective of stage and method of therapy. Surgery was given to 18 patients (28.6%), combined therapy--by 45 (71.4%). Recurrent tumor was recorded after surgery in 2 (3.2%) and in 7 (14.8%) after combined therapy. Generally, surgery is the main treatment received by patients with SBTO. Adjuvant chemotherapy was not followed by decrease in relapse rates.

The data on treatment of 50 patients with endometrial stromal sarcoma (Ess) are discussed. Mean age-46.5 years. The group included 28 patients with stage I tumor, 7-stage II, 8-stage III and 7-stage IV. The end results of surgical, combined and complex treatment were followed up in 45 cases. Surgery was given to 24 and combined and complex therapy-to 21 patients. Five- and ten-year survival was 55.6 and 26.7, respectively, whatever mode of therapy and stage.

The paper deals with the results of a clinical evaluation of various treatment modalities employed in 155 cases of primary cancer of the uterine cervix (T2 and T3) who had lymphographic signs of metastases into pelvic lymph nodes (N1). The distribution of patients was as follows: group 1--complex gamma-therapy (55 cases), group 2--complex gamma-therapy plus iliac lymphadenectomy (50 cases) and group 3--complex radiation treatment with megavolt bremsstrahlung beam from the luć type installation and iliac lymphadenectomy (50 cases). Five-year survival rates in study groups 1 and 2 were 34,5 and 46.0%, respectively. In 21 cases of group 2 (42.0%), lymphogenic metastasis appeared to be resistant to ionizing irradiation and persisted following complex gamma-therapy. This was confirmed morphologically. Out of these cases, 9 survived for 5 years and were free from recurrence which pointed to the effectiveness of lymphadenectomy. In group 3, histological examination of removed nodes showed that ionizing irradiation had failed to arrest lymphogenic metastasis in 6 cases (12.0%) only. The end results of treatment (62% of 3-year survival) improved significantly due to improvement made at all stages of irradiation as well as combined use of radiation and surgery.

The relationship between hormone-mediator and immunologic components of homeostasis was studied in 82 surgically-treated cancer patients. The pattern of changes in immunity and non-specific resistance was found to depend on the rate of glucocorticoid hormones synthesis in adrenals. Surgery should be carried out under neurovegetative blockade, which prevents immunodepression both during and shortly after surgery.

Radioimmunoassay of 12 hormones, carcinoembryonic antigen and ferritin in blood serum was carried out in 140 subjects at high risk for lung cancer. The study group included males aged more than 50 with a questionnaire-based record of smoking for more than 20 years. 140 patients with stage I-III lung tumors and 40 healthy subjects were in control. The profile and trends of hormonal shifts in those at risk and stage I-III lung cancer patients proved identical but were significantly different from the same parameters in healthy subjects. In the group at risk, endocrine disorders were more pronounced than the rise in tumor marker levels.
