This updated meta-analysis sought to determine whether the pro-inflammatory potential of diet is a risk factor for breast cancer (BrCa) development, for the first time focusing on the effects of design heterogeneity. The search was performed using Scopus, PubMed, and Embase databases. Data were extracted from twenty-one eligible studies, including eleven cohorts (336,085 participants/20,033 incidence cases), and ten case-control studies (9,833 cases/12,752controls). The random-effect was used to calculate the relative risk (RR) using STATA 16 software. The highest dietary inflammatory index (DII) vs. the lowest category showed 16% increased risk of BrCa (95% CI: 1.06-1.26; I 2  = 62.8%, P (I 2 ) < 0.001). This was notable in post-menopausal status (RR = 1.13, 95% CI: 1.04-1.22), women with body mass index (BMI) ≥ 30 kg/m 2 (RR = 1.35, 95% CI: 1.07-1.63), and study populations from developing countries (RR = 1.79, 95% CI: 1.12-2.47). Methodological covariates were subject to subgroup meta-analyses and showed stronger results among case-control studies (RR = 1.50, 95% CI: 1.20-1.80), studies considered age-matched controls (RR = 1.56, 95% CI: 1.19-1.93) and hospital-based controls (RR = 2.11, 95% CI: 1.58-2.64), and cohort studies identified by prolong follow-up durations (RR = 1.13, 95% CI: 1.03-1.22). This updated meta-analysis highlighted the pro-inflammatory diet as a risk factor for BrCa, especially among women in post-menopausal status, obese groups, and developing countries. Meta-analysis in methodological subgroups could improve results, less affected by heterogeneity, and suggested subclassification with important implications for future epidemiological designs and even clinical management., (© 2021. Aim Antibiotics are widely used to prevent flare-ups after endodontic treatment of non-vital teeth. This systematic review assessed the effect of antibiotic administration on post-endodontic treatment pain and flare-up rate.Methods Five major databases including Web of Science, Cochrane Library, PubMed, Scopus and Embase were searched to identify randomised clinical trials (RCTs) published until September 2020. Retrieved papers were critically appraised using the revised Cochrane risk of bias tool (RoB 2). To reduce the clinical heterogeneity, the included studies were divided into two groups: studies on symptomatic non-vital teeth and studies on asymptomatic non-vital teeth. The primary outcomes were 'post-operative pain' and 'flare-up rate'. The data of included studies were statistically combined through meta-analysis using random-effect model. The Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach was used to assess the quality of evidence.Results Six RCTs involving two RCTs (N = 61) on symptomatic teeth and four RCTs (N = 310) on asymptomatic teeth were included. In two RCTs on asymptomatic teeth, prophylactic antibiotic had been used, while in the remaining two RCTs, antibiotics had been administered after treatment. Quantitative synthesis of the RCTs showed that antibiotic administration following endodontic treatment of symptomatic non-vital teeth has no effect on pain severity at 24 hours following treatment (weighted mean difference [WMD] = -0.03; 95% confidence interval [CI]: -0.53 to 0.47), and the use of antibiotics before endodontic treatment of asymptomatic non-vital teeth has no effect on flare-up rate (relative risk [RR] = 0.58; 95% CI: 0.22-1.54). The GRADE approach revealed that the overall quality of evidence on the topic is low.Conclusions The antibiotic administration following endodontic treatment of symptomatic non-vital teeth has no effect on pain severity at 24 hours following treatment. Also, prophylactic antibiotics are ineffective in reducing the flare-up rate following treatment of asymptomatic non-vital teeth. However, to evaluate the effect of post-treatment antibiotics on flare-up rate in asymptomatic non-vital teeth, more high-quality RCTs are needed., (© 2022. It has been suggested that abdominal obesity might be a better cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) discriminator than overall obesity. The most appropriate obesity measures for estimating CVD events in Kurdish populations have not been well-recognized. The objective of the present study was, therefore, to determine the cutoff points of BMI, waist circumference (WC), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), and waist to height ratio (WHtR) as the diagnostic cut-offs to discriminate the prevalent cardiovascular diseases. The data collected from Ravansar Non-Communicable Disease (RaNCD) cohort, the first Kurdish population-based study, was analyzed. The information related to BMI, WC, WHR and WHtR of 10,065 adult participants in the age range of 35-65 was analyzed in this study. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analyses were conducted to evaluate the optimum cut-off values and to predict the incidence of cardiac events. The results showed that WHtR had the largest areas under the ROC curve for cardiac events in both male and female participants, and this was followed by WHR, WC, and BMI. The optimal cut-off values for determining the cardiac events in the Kurdish population were BMI = 27.02 kg/m 2 for men and BMI = 27.60 kg/m 2 for women, WC = 96.05 cm in men and 99.5 cm for women, WHRs = 0.96 in both sexes, and WHtR = 0.56 for men and 0.65 for women. The current study, therefore, showed that WHtR might serve as a better index of prevalent cardiac event than BMI, WHR and WC.
