The author describes the rituals and traditions that came to define his relationship with American economist Milton Friedman and American conservative author William F. Buckley Jr. He shares some of their conversations, and considers eating as the most important ritual and tradition for the group. He discusses how Friedman represented the libertarian side of conservatism while Buckley combined the freedom and order Right.

The article presents an obituary for Aaron Wildavsky, professor of political science at the University of California at Berkeley and former president of the American Political Science Association.
