Anthomyza gilviventris Roháček & Barber, 2016, hitherto known only from the Nearctic Region, is recorded from the Palaearctic Region (NE Sweden) for the first time. Specimens from the Swedish population have been compared with those of A. gilviventris from Canada and the USA and those of A. tschirnhausi Roháček, 2009 from the Kamchatka Peninsula (Far East of Russia). Both morphological and molecular analyses (BI and RAxML, based on seven DNA markers: 12S, 16S, 28S, COI, COII, CytB, ITS2) confirmed that the Swedish specimens belong to A. gilviventris. Because no specimen of A. tschirnhausi has been available for molecular study, the most diagnostic morphological characters used for separation of this species from A. gilviventris have been re-evaluated with respect to Swedish specimens, and their variability discussed. However, these differences, although stable, are relatively small and, consequently, the possibility that they fall within the limits of a single variable species has not been entirely eliminated. A first attempt is made to revise the European species of the gall midge genus Planetella Westwood, 1840 (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae), with a focus on the fauna of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Denmark. A total of 19 species are recognized based on unique DNA sequences, of which 13 are described as new to science: Planetella adami Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. aestivalis Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. antennata Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. atrobrunnea Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. attilai Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. csabai Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. davidi Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. galiciensis Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. hlisnikovskyi Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. muranica Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. riparia Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., P. submontana Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov., and P. thermophila Ševčík & Hippa sp. nov. Four previously described species are recognized in the collected material: Planetella arenariae (Rübsaamen, 1899b), P. fasciata (Meigen, 1818) sp. restit., P. gallarum (Rübsaamen, 1899a), and P. granifex (Kieffer, 1898). For each of these species, DNA sequences are provided, as well as detailed illustrations of the male terminalia and male flagellomeres. Four additional species are represented only with larva, female or incomplete specimens. The phylogeny of European Planetella is tentatively reconstructed based on the combined analysis of three gene markers (28S, 16S, COI), but without providing any new infrageneric classification. The phylogenetic placement of the genus Planetella within the subfamily Cecidomyiinae is reconstructed based on four gene markers (18S, 28S, 16S, COI). The monophyly of Planetella is well supported, as well as its placement in the supertribe Cecidomyiidi. The genera Acodiplosis Kieffer, 1895 and Putoniella Kieffer, 1896 appear as the closest relatives of Planetella. The delimitation of the tribe Hormomyiini is discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A new seed bug species, Stigmatonotum macronotum sp. nov., collected from southern Chiba prefecture, central Honshu, Japan is described. It is the seventh species in the genus Stigmatonotum Lindberg, 1927. Stigmatonotum geniculatum (Motschulsky, 1863) is recorded from South Korea for the first time. Illustrations of genital structures of the new species and a key to the species of Humilocoris Harrington, 1980 and Stigmatonotum from the Palaearctic and Oriental Regions are provided. We revise the genus Ivanauskiella Ivinskis & Piskunov, 1980. Six new species are described: I. sutteri sp. nov. (Greece: Crete), I. bovis sp. nov. (Morocco), I. nigripunctata sp. nov. (Spain), I. annekristinae sp. nov. (France: Corsica), I. limoniella sp. nov. (Bulgaria, Ukraine, Turkey, Russia), I. albimarginata sp. nov. (Armenia, Iran). Ivanauskiella turkmenica Ivinskis & Piskunov, 1980, sp. restit., is reinstated as a separate species from synonymy with I. psamathias (Meyrick, 1891). Updated distribution records are provided for all ten species recognised in Ivanauskiella. The diving beetle genus Rhithrodytes Bameul, 1989 is endemic to areas surrounding the Western Mediterranean Basin, and currently includes six lotic species; three each in Europe and North Africa. Here we describe a striking new species, Rhithrodytes pantaleonii sp. nov., discovered during recent fi eldwork in southwestern Sardinia. The new species differs markedly from the only previously known Rhithrodytes from the Tyrrhenian Islands, R. sexguttatus (Aubé, 1838). The pale, fl attened appearance of R. pantaleonii sp. nov., together with its small eyes and scarcity during collecting, all point to it being semisubterranean. A combination of mitochondrial and nuclear DNA sequences, obtained non-destructively from the holotype, allow us to reconstruct the evolutionary history and historical biogeography of this taxon and take the opportunity to publish the mitogenome of the new species. Rhithrodytes pantaleonii sp. nov. is shown to be sister to R. sexguttatus, these taxa apparently having diverged during the Miocene, when the Sulcis-Iglesiente region of southwestern Sardinia was separated from the rest of Corsico-Sardinia by the Sardinian Seaway. Our discovery adds to our understanding of the biogeography of the Tyrrhenian Islands, and further highlights the importance of the Sulcis-Iglesiente region as an area of endemism in its own right. The genus Cybister Curtis, 1827 is reviewed with respect to the fauna of China. A new species, Cybister (Melanectes) danxiaensis sp. nov. is described and illustrated. Altogether, 16 Cybister species are recorded from China, although the status of two of them remains in question. All species are diagnosed, with their habitus and male genitalia illustrated. Additional faunistic data from China are provided for the following species: C. guerini Aubé, 1838 from Hainan; C. lewisianus Sharp, 1873 from Guangdong and Hainan; C. limbatus (Fabricius, 1775) from Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan; C. rugosus (W. S. Macleay, 1825) from Chongqing, Guangdong, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Yunnan, Zhejiang; C. tripunctatus lateralis (Fabricius, 1798) from Chongqing, Guangxi, Jiangxi, Shanghai; C. brevis Aubé, 1838 from Guizhou, Hunan, Zhejiang; and C. sugillatus Erichson, 1834 from Guangxi and Yunnan. An updated identifi cation key and distribution maps for all species are provided. Five species of the Lathrobium nomurai group are (re)described: Lathrobium nomurai Nakane, 1955, L. fujimotoi Y. Watanabe, 2001, L. hikosanense Y. Watanabe, 1998, L. yufuense sp. nov., and L. denchu sp. nov. All species inhabit the upper hypogean zone or are found under stones in the northern Kyushu, Japan. This contribution is the first part of a series designed to summarize the present knowledge on the fauna of true bugs (Hemiptera: Heteroptera) of the Socotra Archipelago. A review of aquatic, semiaquatic and shore bugs of the infraorders Nepomorpha, Gerromorpha, and Leptopodomorpha of Socotra is provided. Nine families and 19 species are recorded from the Socotra Island (including two marine off-shore species). The following new species and new records are given: Micronecta eupompe Hutchinson, 1930 (Micronectidae), Sigara hoggarica Poisson, 1929 (Corixidae), Hebrus kanyukovae sp. nov., Hebrus sp. (Hebridae), Microvelia gracillima Reuter, 1882, M. macani Brown, 1953 (Veliidae), Limnogonus cereiventris (Signoret, 1862) (Gerridae), Micracanthia ornatula (Reuter, 1881), and Saldula niveolimbata (Reuter, 1900) (Saldidae). The following new faunistic records are also provided: Micronecta eupompe from Burkina Faso, Anisops varius from Jordan and Rwanda, Mesovelia vittigera Horváth, 1895 (Mesoveliidae) from Mali, Micracanthia ornatula from Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Zambia, China (Sichuan), and Bangladesh, and Saldula niveolimbata from Mali. A new species of the genus Chrysolina Motschulsky, 1860 from Nagano Prefecture, Honshu, Japan is described as Chrysolina (Allohypericia) orochi sp. nov. with detailed illustrations of the male and female genitalia, description of larva and pupa, and record of its host plant, Artemisia capillaris Thunberg (Asteraceae). The paper summarises the records of Megacraspedus Zeller, 1839 (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) species collected during the author's four trips to the Russian Altai in 2014-2019. A total of four species belonging to this genus were recorded here, of which one was found to be undescribed and two other species, namely Megacraspedus dolosellus (Zeller, 1839) and Megacraspedus podolicus (Toll, 1942), were new species for the area at the time. Megacraspedus bidzilyai sp. nov. is described here as a new species for science and is assigned to the Megacraspedus majorella species group. Its adults and genitalia of both sexes are figured in detail. Megacraspedus latiuncus Huemer & Karsholt, 2018 belonging to the same species group is recorded from Kyrgyzstan for the first time. The only preserved (damaged, sex unknown) type specimen of Periscelis (Periscelis) winnertzii Egger, 1862 has been revised and designated as a lectotype. Its revision revealed that P. winnertzii has recently been misinterpreted and is in fact identical with P. (P.) fugax Roháček & Andrade, 2017, syn. nov. Therefore, true P. winnertzii is re-diagnosed, with all its synonomies listed. Periscelis winnertzii auctt. (not Egger, 1862) is described as a new species, P. laszloi sp. nov., based on a series of specimens from Hungary (holotype), Portugal, Switzerland and Slovakia. An intersex specimen of P. laszloi sp. nov., female puparium and cephalopharyngeal skeleton of 3rd instar larva (ex puparium) of P. winnertzii (all from Hungary) are described and illustrated. Both species are also characterized by means of the barcoding region of COI, illustrated in detail (including structures of male and female terminalia) and their biology and distribution reviewed with new original data. The present study revises the taxonomy of the lace bug genus Perissonemia Drake & Poor, 1937 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Tingidae: Tinginae) from Japan. Three species are recognized and (re)described: P. occasa Drake, 1942 from Honshu, P. okinawensis sp. nov. from the central part of the Ryukyu Islands, and P. yaeyamensis sp. nov. from the southern part of the Ryukyu Islands. Previous records of P. occasa from the central and southern parts of the Ryukyu Islands are confirmed as misidentifications of P. okinawensis sp. nov. and P. yaeyamensis sp. nov., respectively. The host plant relationships are discussed for P. occasa and P. yaeyamensis sp. nov. Photographs of living individuals of P. occasa and P. yaeyamensis sp. nov. are presented. The early stages of a lycaenid butterfly, Miller's Green Hairstreak Callophrys mystaphia Miller, 1913, are photographed and presented for the first time. Callophrys mystaphia is known to be endangered and is regarded to be endemic to Turkey based on recent studies. The species is considered to be local and isolated, with the likelihood of being one of the rarest butterfly species in Turkey. The distribution of this species and its food plant, Rheum ribes L. (Polygonaceae), in Turkey are investigated and the possible range of this butterfly species is highlighted. New data on the early stages, phenology, vertical distribution, and behaviour of adult and larva of C. mystaphia are presented. The larva was found to have been attacked by a newly discovered hymenopteran parasitoid species of the genus Cotesia Cameron, 1981 (Braconidae); the cocoons and the adult parasitoid are illustrated. Barcoding of Dutch specimens of Lemonia dumi (Linnaeus, 1761) (Lepidoptera: Brahmaeidae) and a study of a large collection material of this species resulted in discovery of a new, hitherto undescribed species Lemonia batavorum sp. nov. Based on comparison with L. dumi, species level of L. batavorum sp. nov. is supported by the differences in its external appearance, differences in genitalia of both sexes and by 1.92% p-distance to L. dumi as the nearest neighbour. The fauna of bristletails of the family Machilidae in Kazakhstan currently includes one species of the genus Silvestrichiloides Mendes, 1990 and 13 species of the genus Allopsontus Silvestri, 1911. The present study describes one new species of the genus Silvestrichiloides (S. berkarensis Kaplin, sp. nov. from South Kazakhstan) and two new species of the genus Allopsontus (A. (Kaplinilis) nigrostriatus Kaplin, sp. nov. and A. (Machilanus) perfectus Kaplin, sp. nov. from Southeastern Kazakhstan). Silvestrichiloides berkarensis sp. nov. differs from the other species of this genus in the structure of antennal flagellum, apical palpomere of labial palp and ovipositor. Among species of the subgenus Kaplinilis Mendes, 1990, A. nigrostriatus sp. nov. belongs to a group of species characterized by numerous short chaetae on the ventral surface of the 5-7th palpomeres of the male maxillary palp and by the absence on the labial palp. This group includes two species: A. volgensis Kaplin, 1999 from Samara Region and A. smelyanskii Kaplin, 1999 from Orenbourg Region (both Russia). The new species differs from A. volgensis and A. smelyanskii in the length of the body and antenna, color of scales on the upper surface of the body, shape of the compound eye and paired ocellus, structure of the flagellum and apical palpomere of the male labial palp. The subgenus Machilanus Silvestri, 1934 is represented only by A. bitschi Wygodzinsky, 1962 from Afghanistan and A. perfectus sp. nov., which are characterized by numerous short chaetae on the ventral surface of the 2nd-7th palpomeres of the male maxillary palp. Japanese Anthocorini are reviewed. A total of five genera and 13 species were identified, including two new species described below: Temnostethus mirificus sp. nov. and Anthocoris venustus sp. nov. Previous records of Anthocoris miyamotoi Hiura, 1959 from Japan are considered to be confused with A. venustus sp. nov. Anthocoris nemoralis (Fabricius, 1794), which is a common and widespread species in Europe, is recorded in Japan for the first time; it is assumed to have been accidentally introduced into Japan recently. Temnostethus distans Kerzhner, 1973 and Anthocoris kalopanacis Kerzhner, 1977 are newly recorded in Japan proper. Male and female genitalia are illustrated and described for most of the treated species. Identification keys to the genera and species that occur in Japan are provided. Bionomics are provided for each species. Detailed locality information and distribution maps in Japan are presented for all Japanese species and their zoogeography is discussed. The genus Liroetis Weise, 1889 is redefined. The following new synonymies are established: Liroetis Weise, 1889 = Siemssenius Weise, 1922, syn. nov. = Pseudoliroetis Laboissière, 1929, syn. nov. = Zangia Chen, 1976, syn. nov. The spelling of Liroetis tiemushannis Jiang, 1988 is fixed using the First Reviser Principle. Species of Liroetis are divided into five species-groups based on the combination of the following characters: presence/absence of border on anterior pronotal margin, width/length ratio of pronotum, structure of aedeagus, presence/absence of metatibial spur. The established groups are: the aeneipennis group, the aurantiacus group, the flavipennis group, the fulvipennis group, and the grandis group. The gender of Liroetis is masculine. Members of the scaphidiine tribe Scaphisomatini collected recently in Tianmushan Biosphere Reserve (Zhejiang) and Wuyishan National Nature Reserve (part of Wuyishan Biosphere Reserve, Fujian), China, are studied. Two species, Scaphisoma krali Löbl, sp. nov. and Scaphisoma sekerkai Löbl, sp. nov., are described from Wuyishan. Baeocera franzi (Löbl, 1973) and Scaphisoma mutator Löbl, 2000 are recorded for the first time from Zhejiang province, and Scaphisoma binhanum (Pic, 1922) and Scaphoxium intermedium Löbl, 1984 are recorded for the first time from Fujian province. The present work is a revision of the Palaearctic burrower bug genus Exosehirus Wagner, 1963 (Heteroptera: Cydnidae: Sehirinae). New data on the morphology and distribution are given. Structures of the female internal ectodermal genitalia and the completely inflated aedeagi are described and illustrated for the first time. An extended diff erential diagnosis as a comparison of the genus with representatives of all Palaearctic genera of the tribe Sehirini is provided. Based on characters of the terminalia of both sexes, two new species are described: E. elamensis sp. nov. from Southwest Iran, and E. essedonius sp. nov. from Kazakhstan. 'Exosehirus' steini (Signoret, 1884) nom. dub. is excluded from the genus Exosehirus and treated as a species incertae sedis. Stenocephus janseni sp. nov. (Hymenoptera: Cephidae) is described from Brandenburg, eastern Germany, known only from the female holotype. It possesses an unusual combination of "generic" morphological characters, which makes its placement in Stenocephus Shinohara, 1999 provisional. Compared to other Stenocephus species, diff erences in the morphology of the lancet are particularly striking. Genetic data for S. janseni sp. nov. place it unequivocally in the Hartigiini, but rather distantly from other genera of this tribe which have so far been sequenced. The three previously described Stenocephus species are recorded from the East Palaearctic. No genetic data are currently available for these. Pachycephus nigratus Dovnar-Zapolskij, 1931, comb. restit., is no longer treated as belonging to Phylloecus Newman, 1838, but as a member of the genus in which it was originally described. Two new species of the tribe Helopini (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) are described from Turkey: Nalassus (Nalassus) becvari sp. nov. (Elazığ Province) and Hedyphanes (Hedyphanes) kmenti sp. nov. (Artvin Province). The fi rst species is characterized by strongly thickened antennomeres 2-8 and differs from all Turkish Nalassus s. str. Mulsant, 1854 in the ventral aspect of eye, which bears a weak posterior ventral impression (rather than a distinct groove of other species). The second species belongs to the species group with asperate punctation of the prothoracic hypomera and differs from all Hedyphanes Fischer von Waldheim, 1820 in the presence of suberect pubescence on both sides of elytral base. Distribution of some Helopini (the Helops genus-group, subtribe Helopina) from Anatolia and Cyprus is updated with new data. Hedyphanes mannerheimi Faldermann, 1837 is recorded for Turkey (Iğdır Province) for the fi rst time. A lectotype (male) and paralectotypes (male, female) of Pneumia vittata (Tonnoir, 1919) comb. nov. (= Pericoma crispi Freeman, 1953 syn. nov.) from Belgium are designated. The species is redescribed and illustrated, and a differential diagnosis is given. The former designation of a holotype, paratypes and paratypoids by Jung is invalid because it was not published. In addition, a problem with Tonnoiriella obtusa (Tonnoir, 1919) comb. nov. (= Tonnoiriella anchoriformis Salamanna, 1975 syn. nov.) from Belgium is resolved. A female specimen is designated as a lectotype, but only the dissected wings from this specimen are in condition suitable for redescription. There is additional non-type material collected later by Tonnoir; this material, including 3 females and 1 male, was the basis for redescription, illustrations and differential diagnosis. Two species are recognized and re-described: A. japonicum (Drake, 1948) described previously from Japan, and A. abruptifrons Golub, 1990, newly recorded from Japan. The previous records of A. nexile (Drake, 1948) from Japan are confirmed as misidentifications of A. japonicum. The host plant relationship is discussed for A. abruptifrons and A. japonicum. Two new species of Machilinus Silvestri, 1905 (M. petrophilus Kaplin, sp. nov., M. obscurus Kaplin, sp. nov.) from Ukraine and one new species of Charimachilis Wygodzinsky, 1939 (C. rostoviensis Kaplin sp. nov.) from Southern Russia are described. The new species of Machilinus belong to the subgenus Machilinus s. str. with 1 + 1 eversible vesicles on urocoxites II-VII, and urostyli with apical spines; to the group "rupestris" with 2nd and 3rd articles of male maxillary palpus without ventral spines (M. obscurus sp. nov.), and with spines on these articles (M. petrophilus sp. nov.). Machilinus petrophilus sp. nov. differs from M. rocai Bach, 1975 in the color and ratio of length to width of compound eyes, the presence of numerous short chaetae on the clypeus, the structure of the lateral apophysis on the 2nd article of the male maxillary palpus, and the number of ventral spines on the legs. Machilinus obscurus sp. nov. differs from the other species of the group "rupestris" in the color of compound eyes, the presence of numerous short chaetae on the male frons and clypeus, and in other features. Charimachilis rostoviensis sp. nov. (Machilidae) most closely resembles C. ukrainensis Stach, 1958. Japanese species of the genus Epiphragma Osten Sacken, 1860 are revised. Epiphragma amamiense sp. nov. is described, and E. gracilistylus Alexander, 1933 and E. kempi Brunetti, 1913 are recorded from Japan for the first time. It is revealed that records of E. evanescens Alexander, 1940 from Japan were based on misidentifications of E. gracilistylus and E. trichomerum Alexander, 1955. Therefore, a total of six species are recognized from Japan, and the previous records which based on misidentifications are corrected. The morphology of immature stages of Helophorus (Gephelophorus) auriculatus Sharp, 1884 is described. This is the fi rst description of the larva and pupa of the subgenus Gephelophorus Sharp, 1915. We describe the morphology of the egg-case, all larval stages (fi rst to third instar, including chaetotaxy of the head) and pupa. Morphological transformations between larval instars were examined. Head chaetotaxy was nearly identical between instars. Ventral teeth on the nasale, considered as a useful taxonomic character, were absent in the fi rst instar but well developed in later instars. Chaetotaxy diff ered among the subgenera Gephelophorus, Helophorus and Lihelophorus in the length and shape of setae on head capsule and maxilla. Pupal morphology was similar to that of previously described pupae: H. (Helophorus) aquaticus (Linnaeus, 1758) and H. (Rhopalohelophorus) orientalis Motschulsky, 1860. Records of Depressariidae species collected in the Altai Republic (Russia) in 2014--2019 are presented. Agonopterix kyzyltashensis sp. nov., A. ustjuzhanini sp. nov., and Depressaria paraleucocephala sp. nov. are described as new for science. Depressaria leucocephala Snellen, 1884 is deleted from the list of Altaic Depressariidae due its previous confusion with D. paraleucocephala sp. nov. Agonopterix rimulella (Caradja, 1920) sp. restit. is removed from synonymy with Agonopterix liturosa (Haworth, 1811). Exaeretia fuscogriseella Hannemann, 1990 syn. nov. is synonymised with E. indubitatella (Hannemann, 1971). Agonopterix feruliphila Millière, 1866 syn. nov. is transferred from synonymy with Agonopterix thapsiella (Zeller, 1847) to synonymy with Agonopterix adspersella (Kollar, 1832). Provisional list of related taxa of the Agonopterix adspersella group is given. Within Russian fauna, Depressaria altaica Zeller, 1854 was presented only from the Altai Republic, namely because the type specimens were recorded in the Altai. However, type locality is the Kazakh Altai, and D. altaica should be removed from checklist of the Altai Republic. At the same time, we present the fi rst reliable records of D. altaica from southern Ural as a new species for Russia. The fi rst reliable record of Agonopterix putridella ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775) for Russia is presented. Exaeretia allisella Stainton, 1849, Agonopterix anticella (Erschoff, 1877), Agonopterix bipunctosa (Curtis, 1850), Agonopterix rimulella, Depressaria sibirella Lvovsky, 1981, D. falkovitshi Lvovsky, 1990, D. libanotidella Schläger, 1848, and D. fuscovirgatella Hannemann, 1967 are new for the Altai Republic. In addition, Exaeretia mongolicella (Christoph, 1882) was found as new for the Tuva Republic. In total, 36 species of the studied family are known from the Altai Republic to date. Oxyporinae are a visually attractive and highly specialized mycophagous subfamily of rove beetles (Staphylinidae) with enigmatic origins and a largely unknown evolutionary history. Our knowledge of their immature stages and biology, valuable for solving questions about their phylogeny, is still very fragmentary. Here, we describe for the fi rst time the larval morphology of Oxyporus (s. str.) procerus Kraatz, 1879 and O. (Pseudoxyporus) melanocephalus Kirschenblatt, 1938, both from the Russian Far East. We redescribe the larval morphology of the widespread O. (s. str.) maxillosus Fabricius, 1775 based on material, also from the Russian Far East. All larvae are identifi ed based on the combined evidence from rearing and cox1 barcoding. For O. maxillosus, O. procerus and O. (P.) melanocephalus we provide some new fi eld and laboratory-based data on feeding, mating, oviposition, female brood care, duration of larval development, and behavior. We applied the Atheta-based system of ASHE & WATROUS (1984) to describe and compare the chaetotaxy of these Oxyporus larvae. We extract the most essential comparable data for all species of Oxyporus with known larvae from poorly compatible published larval descriptions with dubious homology assessments for their chaetotaxy. In addition, data on fungal hosts and beetle biology is summarized for the genus and provided for each species. New morphological traits are revealed for the Oxyporus larvae. Signifi cant differences in larval morphology, reproduction behavior and cox1 barcoding region between the subgenera Oxyporus s. str. and Pseudoxyporus Nakane & Sawada, 1956 correspond to the morphological distance between their adults and suggest that they may be potentially elevated to genus rank. In total, thirteen species of the genus Caryocolum Gregor & Povolný, 1954 (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) have been recorded from the Altai mountains in Russia so far. All available faunistic data are summarized and presented in detail. DNA barcodes of the mtCOI (cytochrome c oxidase I) gene of the majority of recorded species were studied. Molecular data and morphology support the following two species, which are described here as new to science: Caryocolum procurvella sp. nov. and C. atrum sp. nov. Caryocolum tetrameris (Meyrick, 1926) is recorded as a new species for Russia. The genus Barretonus Roudier, 1958 is a genus endemic to Macaronesia, described from the archipelago of Madeira where four species are known to date. In this study, two new species of Barretonus, B. auarita García & Oromí sp. nov. (from La Palma, Canary Islands) and B. daute García & Andújar sp. nov. (from Tenerife, Canary Islands), are described based on morphological and molecular evidence (mtCOI), and additional notes on their biology and ecology are provided. Morphology of the new species is compared with the other representatives of the genus, and their phylogenetic relationships with a Barretonus representative from Madeira and species from additional genera within the Cossoninae are shown. This work increases the number of species of the genus Barretonus from four to six anophthalmous or microphthalmous species with an endogean lifestyle, and incorporates the Canary Islands into its Macaronesian range of distribution. Platynectes (Gueorguievtes) davidorum sp. nov. is described, including all larval instars, from hygropetric habitats in Fujian and Zhejiang provinces, eastern China. The new species can be easily distinguished from all other Asia Platynectes Régimbart, 1879 with dorsally strongly convex habitus, distinctly impressed double reticulation of elytra, short appendages and the shape of median lobe of aedeagus. Collected larvae were successfully associated with adults using a molecular approach and the barcode for the new species is provided as well as the phylogenetic position based on the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I gene; they are described and illustrated, with detailed morphometric and chaetotaxic analyses of the cephalic capsule, head appendages, legs, last abdominal segment, and urogomphi. The genus Airaphilus Redtenbacher, 1858 (Coleoptera: Silvanidae: Silvaninae) is recorded from Japan for the first time. The record is based on the discovery of a new apterous species, Airaphilus abei sp. nov., described and illustrated herein. The new species is similar to Airaphilus filiformis (Rosenhauer, 1856), however it can be distinguished by long antennae reaching about body midlength; anterior margin of pronotum about as wide as head; elytra without a humeral tooth, rounded to base and more to apices; and long metaventrite. Only five specimens have been found and these were collected in 1992 at Kokeyachi bog in the far north of Honshu. This bog and the adjacent wetlands have begun to dry out and are undergoing a transition to grassland. These factors, together with the apparently very limited distribution and the possibly restricted mobility due to lack of hind wings, suggest that at least in this locality the new species may be endangered. A new species, Scymbalopsis persica sp. nov. (Staphylinidae: Paederinae: Paederini), is described and illustrated based on three specimens collected in Lorestan province, Iran. The new species can be distinguished from the remaining species of the genus by the paler coloration, moderately wide forebody with dense and long setation, and other details of the morphology of the body and aedeagus. Detailed bionomic data for S. persica sp. nov. are presented. More than 100 years ago, the Italian myrmecologist Carlo Emery described two endemic Sicilian ants: Aphaenogaster sicula Emery, 1908, which he originally considered a subspecies of A. crocea André, 1881, and A. fiorii Emery, 1915 stat. nov., which he believed was a subspecies of A. gibbosa (Latreille, 1798). Males of the two species and the queen of A. fiorii were never described. The scarcity of information contained in the original description led to several misunderstandings by subsequent authors: for example, A. sicula was later elevated to species-rank on the basis of misidentified material of A. fiorii stat. nov. We redescribe the two species, adding the descriptions of their missing castes and designating their lectotypes. We also describe a third related species of the genus: A. trinacriae sp. nov. from Sicily. The ecology and distribution of the three are illustrated. Their relationship with the other congeneric species of the Mediterranean basin is discussed considering the morphology of all three castes, with attention to the often-overlooked males. Despite the fact that A. fiorii and A. sicula were lately believed to be close relatives of A. subterranea (Latreille, 1798), the morphological elements available suggest that they probably belong to a separate, hitherto unrecognized clade from the Maghreb (North-Western Africa), together with A. trinacriae sp. nov. The Nearctic Neolimnophila ultima ultima (Osten Sacken, 1860) is proposed as a new junior synonym for the Palaearctic N. placida (Meigen, 1830). Neolimnophila ultima alaskana (Alexander, 1924) is elevated to species rank and reported in the Palaearctic Region for the first time. The taxonomic review of the tenebrionid genus Calyptopsis Solier, 1835 (Tenebrionidae: Tentyriini) of Turkey and Western Transcaucasia is given. Four new species and one new subspecies are described: C. capnisiformis volcanica subsp. nov. (from calderas of extinct volcanoes in Karaman and Manisa provinces), C. fouquei sp. nov. (Artvin Province), C. egecemi sp. nov. (Izmir Province), C. kaszabi sp. nov. (Bayburt Province), C. ottoi sp. nov. (Turkey: Hakkari and Van provinces; NE Iraq: Zagros Mts.). The lectotype of Calyptopsis lineimargo Reitter, 1897 is designated. The key and images for the Turkish and Western Transcaucasian species are given. The fauna of bristletails of the genus Lepismachilis Verhoeff, 1910 in Montenegro and Serbia includes only one species L. (Berlesilis) targionii (Grassi, 1887) with 2 + 2 eversible vesicles on abdominal urocoxites II-VI. Three new species of this genus are described: L. (Lepismachilis) prijepolja sp. nov., L. (Lepismachilis) limensa sp. nov. from Serbia, and L. (Lepismachilis) alexandrae sp. nov. from Montenegro. All described new species belong to the species group of the subgenus Lepismachilis s. str. with 2 + 2 eversible vesicles on abdominal urocoxites II-V. Lepismachilis prijepolja sp. nov. differs from L. y-signata Kratochvíl, 1945 and L. notata Stach, 1919 by the color, drawings and ratios of the compound eyes; ratios of sensory fi eld on fore femur of male, number of divisions of ovipositor. Lepismachilis limensa sp. nov. differs from L. hauseri Bitsch, 1974 and L. abchasica Kaplin, 2017 by ratios of paired ocelli, sensory fi eld on fore femur of male; ratios and chaetotaxy of maxillary and labial palps. Lepismachilis alexandrae sp. nov. differs from L. abchasica by the drawings of the compound eyes; ratios of paired ocelli, sensory fi eld on fore femur of male; number of divisions of the parameres and gonapophyses. Two new species of the genus Glischrochilus Reitter, 1873, subgenus Librodor Reitter, 1884: Glischrochilus (Librodor) pilula sp. nov. (Laos) and Glischrochilus (Librodor) ruzickai sp. nov. (China: Yunnan, Sichuan; Myanmar) are described, fi gured and compared with other species of the genus. Glischrochilus egregius (Grouvelle, 1895) is formally synonymised with G. egregius cyclops Jelínek, 1975, syn. nov. and G. egregius monticola Jelínek, 1975, syn. nov. - these two forms were established based on different body colouration; however, the study of extensive material revealed that it is variable independently of its geographic origin. The identity of Ips janthinus Reitter, 1877 from Tasmania (previously included in Glischrochilus) is discussed and the species is formally synonymised with Thallis ianthina Erichson, 1842 (Erotylidae). New country records from China, India, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam, or new Chinese provincial records are provided for 14 species. A world checklist of the genus Glischrochilus is appended. Nemotelus nartshukae sp. nov. is described from Mongolia and its relationships are discussed. Nemotelus kaszabi Lindner, 1973 is proposed as a new synonym of Nemotelus ilensis Pleske, 1937 based on the examination of Lindner's paratype. Nemotelus ventiflavus Cui, Zhang & Yang, 2009 (= N. ventrifl avus according to the present emendation) is apparently also conspecific with N. ilensis based on all the external characters as well as the male terminalia as defined and illustrated in the original description. A new felt scale species, Rhizococcus avicennae sp. nov. (Hemiptera: Sternorrhyncha: Coccomorpha: Acanthococcidae), is described and illustrated based on adult females collected in Hamadan province, Iran. The new species resembles Rhizococcus desertus (Matesova, 1957) originally described from Kazakhstan and differs from the latter in having cruciform pores on the venter of the head, thorax, and abdominal segments I and II; in lacking frontal lobes and the frontal tubercle on the head; in the presence of fl agellate setae on the ventral submargin and macroducts in three sizes on the venter and dorsum. The females of R. avicennae sp. nov. were found at the bases of leaves of an unidentified species of grass (Poaceae). We describe and figure two new Asian Selasia Laporte, 1838 species: S. dembickyi sp. nov. from northern Thailand, and S. jenisi sp. nov. from Nepal. Selasia dembickyi sp. nov. is the easternmost record for the tribe Drilini and the first species of this tribe known from South East Asia. Chin-wen Chen described 28 species and 10 subspecies of the velvet ant genus Smicromyrme Thomson, 1870 in his 1957 revision of the Mutillidae of China and Taiwan. Most of them were subsequently transferred to 12 genera of the tribes Smicromyrmini Bischoff, 1920 and Trogaspidiini Bischoff, 1920. Four species and one subspecies, however, are still included in Smicromyrme. In the present paper, type specimens of these species are surveyed. As a result, Sinotilla serpa columnata (Chen, 1957), comb. nov., stat. nov. (♂), Si. spinicauda (Chen, 1957), comb. nov. (♀), and Si. trisecta (Chen, 1957), comb. nov. (♂) are transferred from Smicromyrme. Smicromyrme bidenticulatus Chen, 1957 (♂♀) and Sm. triguttatus Mickel, 1933 (= Sm. triguttatus latisquamula Chen, 1957, syn. nov.) (♀) remain in Smicromyrme. Members of the subgenus Nessus Reichardt, 1932 of the genus Hypocaccus C. Thomson, 1867 from Central Europe are revised based on examination of the type material. A nidicolous new species Hypocaccus (Nessus) hungaricus sp. nov. is described and fi gured. Saprinus curtus Rosenhauer, 1847 is transferred to the subgenus Nessus Reichardt, 1932 of the genus Hypocaccus C. Thomson, 1867. Hypocaccus (Nessus) puncticollis (Küster, 1849) is synonymized with Hypocaccus (Nessus) curtus (Rosenhauer, 1847) syn. nov., based on examination of the type material. A neotype for Hister [= Hypocaccus (Nessus)] rufipes Kugelann, 1792 is designated. Lectotypes and paralectotypes of the following taxa are designated herein: Hister rufipes Paykull, 1798, Saprinus curtus Rosenhauer, 1847, Saprinus puncticollis Küster, 1849, Saprinus arenarius Marseul, 1855, Saprinus longistrius Marseul, 1855, Saprinus cribellaticollis Jacquelin du Val, 1858, Saprinus sicanus Marseul, 1862, Saprinus revisus Marseul, 1876, and Hypocacculus (Nessus) controversus G. Müller, 1937. All species are redescribed and provided with images and male genitalia drawings. A key to the species is given. The mirine plant bug genus Prolygus Carvalho, 1987 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Miridae: Mirinae: Mirini) and superficially reminiscent taxa in eastern Asia (mainly in Japan, P. R. China and Taiwan) are reviewed. Four species in the region are now assigned to Prolygus. Three new genera, Anthophilolygus gen. nov., Miyamotolygus gen. nov. and Poppiolygus gen. nov., are proposed to accommodate Prolygus bakeri (Poppius, 1915), Neolygus rufilorum (Lu & Zheng, 2004) and Lygus bengalicus Reuter, 1885, respectively. A new species of the genus Hydro baenus Fries, 1830, H. simferopolus sp. nov. (Diptera: Chironomidae: Orthocladiinae), is described based on adult male collected in the Crimean Penisula (Ukraine). Main distinguishing characters are: anal point cup-shaped with a small nose-like apex; virga composed of 3 strong equal spines; inferior volsella consisting of 2 lobes (proximal one broadly planned and covered with curved setae, distal one large nose-like and bare). A new combination of Parorthocladius korneyevi Baranov, 2011 for H. korneyevi (Baranov, 2011) comb. nov. is provided with additional differentiating characters found in male adult including: tergite IX with a median dorsal crest; anal point long, drop-like, covered with setae and ending with thumb-shaped apex; virga composed of 6-8 subequal thin long spines; inferior volsella with 2 unequal lobes (proximal one spherical and much larger); gonostylus massively bulbous and densely covered with long and short setae, crista dorsalis consists of a subapical strong tooth-like, smooth and orally projecting ridge. The male adults of both H. dentistylus Moubayed, 1985 and H. lugubris Fries, 1830 are also illustrated, diagnosed and shortly redescribed with some main distinguishing and supplementary characters. Two new Palaearctic species, Scathophaga annae sp. nov. and Scathophaga simaceki sp. nov. are described from Svalbard. An illustrated identification key for selected northern species from of the genus Scathophaga from the Palaearctic and Nearctic Regions is given. Two new combinations are provided: Coniostenum molle (Becker,1894) comb.nov. for Scathophaga mollis (Becker, 1894) and Coniosternum nigripalpis (Becker, 1907) comb. nov. for Scathophaga nigripalpis (Becker, 1907). Two new synonyms are established, Scathophaga (Coniosternum) sychevskaye Ozerov, 2010, syn. nov. = Coniosternum molle and Scathophaga minuta (Maloch, 1935), syn. nov. = Coniosterum lapponicum Ringdahl, 1920. Scathophaga islandica (Becker, 1894) and Scathophaga villipes (Zetterstedt, 1846) are confirmed as valid species. The species Scathophaga furcata (Say, 1823) is confirmed again in this area. Neolycaena (Rhymnaria) arcana sp. nov. (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae: Theclinae: Eumaeini) was discovered in an old collection of Lepidoptera in the National Museum in Prague and subsequently described from one male. This specimen undoubtedly originates from the period before 1950, and its label contains only 'Tibet'. The new species is morphologically similar to other taxa of the subgenus Rhymnaria Zhdanko, 1983 from which it clearly differs in the arrangement of dots on the underside of hindwings as well as in characters of male genitalia.
