Objective This study was performed to evaluate the effect of bollard coping and locator attachment on immediately loaded single implant retained complete mandibular overdenture. Patients and methods Twenty completely edentulous patients were selected from the Outpatient Clinic, Prosthodontics Department, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Al Azhar University. For each patient complete maxillary and mandibular conventional complete denture were constructed. The patients were divided into two equal groups: group I: patients were treated by single implant assisted mandibular overdenture retained with a new design (bollard coping); group II: patients were treated by single implant assisted mandibular overdenture retained with locator attachment. The bollard coping retention was achieved by engagement of the undercut in the bollard coping to the chemical-curing silicone soft liner in the denture. The locator attachment retention was achieved by the mechanical interlock between the attachment and the metal housing in the denture. The stability of implants was measured by using the Osstell implant stability quotient (ISQ) system and patient satisfaction was evaluated by using a questionnaire. Measurements were taken at baseline, 3, 6, and 12 months after implant insertion. Independent t-test was used for comparison between groups while the comparison of within each group by time was done by one-way analysis of variance followed by post-hoc Tukey test. Results Patient satisfaction and ISQ values results showed higher values in group I than group 2 without any statistically significant difference. ISQ values in both groups over time showed a statistically significant difference between the baseline and 6 and 12 months, between 3 and 12 months, and between 6 and 12 months values. There were statistically nonsignificant difference resulted from the comparison of 3 and 6 months values. Conclusion There was an increase in the ISQ, and retention values for both groups during the follow-up period, but the difference was statistically insignificant between the two groups.

The eye plays a vital role as one of the six senses in humans. From vision to expression, it has its various functions. The aim of this study was to suggest a technique using soft denture lining material to improve the retention of an ocular prosthesis in a grossly resorbed orbital cavity to minimizes the trauma of thin, atrophic tissue. An ocular prosthesis restores lost anatomical structures and corrects the cosmetic defect. A custom-made ocular prosthesis is a good alternative as soft denture lining material used during the fabrication of scleral part of ocular prosthesis improves patient comfort by acting as a shock absorber and stress distributor, and yields longer duration of wear. A good alternative of a custom-made ocular acrylic prosthesis is presented here, which had acceptable fit, retention, and esthetics. Fabrication of new ocular prosthesis with permanent soft liner is a novel way to minimize trauma to underlying supporting tissues.

Objectives This study was designed to examine the effect of monopoly on the softness of a soft liner at various time intervals to save cost and time during replacement of liner. Methods A total of eighty specimens were prepared and divided into two equal groups. Group I (control group) of 40 specimens were lined with soft liner and left uncoated. Group II (test group) of 40 specimens were lined with soft liner and coated with a monopoly. The 10 specimens each of both groups were then examined for softness with a durometer at the baseline, and after 2, 4 and 8 weeks. The transitional denture given in a full arch fixed implant restoration should not disturb the healing and osseointegration process. This is made possible by lining the denture with a uniform thickness of soft liner. The article describes a method of achieving uniform thickness of soft liner and minimizing the load transmitted to the area where implants were placed.

Aim: To evaluate the influence of placement two implants on the retention of maxillary obturator. One implant was placed on the resected and one in the non-resected side of the patient. Materials and Methods: Twenty maxillary edentulous patients of both sexes, aged 45-70 years, with unilateral maxillary defects were selected for the study. The patients had completely dentulous mandibular arch. Two implants were placed for each patient: One in the first premolar region of the healthy side and one in the area of second molar of the defect side. For all patients, retention was measured before superstructure placement for the two maxillary osseointegrated implants using soft liner alone, after placement of ball attachments without soft liner, and after placement of superstructure with soft liner. All measures of retention were performed after 3 months of obturator insertion using forcimeter gauge. Results: The results of this study showed that there was a significant difference when using two implants with soft liner in comparison with soft liner or implants alone, with P Conclusion: The use of only two strategically placed implants in the remaining bone of the resected and non-resected side of unilateral maxillary defect can significantly affect obturator retention.

A palatal prosthesis can improve function by closing the palatal defect, preventing regurgitation, and improving swallowing and speech. Although techniques have been previously described for fabrication of palatal obturator, but there has not been any technique to devise an obturator for a patient with palatal defect with a quadhelix orthodontic appliance overlying it. One cannot wait in such patients for completion of lengthy orthodontic treatment and then think of devising prosthesis as the patient cannot carry out normal functions like swallowing and speech without the closure of defect. This article focuses on an innovative method of fabricating a palatal obturator which aims at restoring the above-mentioned functions along with improving aesthetics. It also enables us to devise the fabrication of prosthesis in two parts for easy insertion and removal and as well as to be self-cleansable. Such prosthesis would markedly improve patient psychology and confidence.
