Prolonged consumption of animal-derived foods containing high levels of lincomycin (LIN) residues can adversely impact human health. Therefore, it is essential to develop specific antibodies and immunoassay methods for LIN. This study utilized computational chemistry to predict the efficacy of LIN haptens prior to chemical synthesis, with subsequent confirmation obtained through an immunization experiment. A hybridoma cell line named LIN/1B11 was established, which is specific to LIN. The optimized indirect competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ic-ELISA) method exhibited high specificity for detecting LIN residues, with an IC50 value of 0.57 ± 0.03 µg/kg. The method effectively detected LIN residues in pork and milk samples, achieving a limit of detection (LOD) ranging from 0.81 to 1.20 µg/kg and a limit of quantification (LOQ) ranging from 2.09 to 2.29 µg/kg, with recovery rates between 81.9% and 108.8%. This study offers a valuable tool for identifying LIN residues in animal-derived food products. Furthermore, the efficient hapten prediction method presented herein improves antibody preparation efficiency and provides a simple method for researchers in screening haptens.

Based on the unique insulator-metal phase transition property of vanadium dioxide (VO2), we propose an integrated metasurface with a switchable mechanism between ultra-broadband absorption and polarization conversion, operating in the terahertz (THz) frequency range. The designed metasurface device is constructed using a stacked structure composed of VO2 quadruple rings, a dielectric layer, copper stripes, VO2 film, a dielectric layer, and a copper reflection layer. Our numerical simulations demonstrate that our proposed design, at high temperatures (above 358 K), exhibits an ultra-broadband absorption ranging from 4.95 to 18.39 THz, maintaining an absorptivity greater than 90%, and achieves a relative absorption bandwidth of up to 115%, significantly exceeding previous research records. At room temperature (298 K), leveraging VO2’s insulating state, our proposed structure transitions into an effective polarization converter, without any alteration to its geometry. It enables efficient conversion between orthogonal linear polarizations across 3.51 to 10.26 THz, with cross-polarized reflection exceeding 90% and a polarization conversion ratio over 97%. More importantly, its relative bandwidth reaches up to 98%. These features highlight its wide-angle, extensive bandwidth, and high-efficiency advantages for both switching functionalities. Such an ultra-broadband convertible design offers potential applications in optical switching, temperature dependent optical sensors, and other tunable THz devices in various fields.

In high-tech areas such as nuclear fusion, aerospace, and high-performance tools, tungsten and its alloys are indispensable due to their high melting point, low thermal expansion, and excellent mechanical properties. The rise of Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies, particularly Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF), has enabled the precise and rapid production of complex tungsten parts. However, cracking and densification remain major challenges in printing tungsten samples, and considerable efforts have been made to study how various processing conditions (such as laser power, scanning strategy, hatch spacing, scan speed, and substrate preheating) affect print quality. In this review, we comprehensively discuss various critical processing parameters and the impact of oxygen content on the control of the additive manufacturing process and the quality of the final parts. Additionally, we introduce additive manufacturing-compatible W materials (pure W, W alloys, and W-based composites), summarize the differences in their mechanical properties, densification, and microstructure, and further provide a clear outlook for developing additive manufactured W materials.

China’s urban–rural dichotomy has resulted in a widening gap between urban and rural areas, posing significant challenges to rural development. This study aims to investigate the spatio-temporal differentiation and driving mechanisms of rural industry integration within the Chengdu–Chongqing Economic Circle in China. Using panel data from 2011 to 2020, we employed the entropy weight TOPSIS method to construct a comprehensive index that charts the evolution of rural industry integration across various districts and counties. Additionally, we utilized fixed-effect and spatio-temporally weighted regression models to analyze the underlying driving forces behind this integration. Our findings reveal a dynamic and varied landscape of rural industry integration, with different levels of depth and breadth across various subsystems. Spatially, we observed a transition from a dispersed to a more concentrated agglomeration pattern within the Chengdu–Chongqing Economic Circle. This shift suggests a diffusion effect emanating from core metropolitan areas, as well as an attracting force exerted by adjacent metropolitan circles. In terms of drivers, market demand, openness level, financial development, policy support, and agricultural insurance breadth significantly contribute to rural industry integration. However, technological progress and rural human capital exhibit a weaker correlation. Notably, our models identified pronounced spatial–temporal heterogeneity among these influencing factors, highlighting a nuanced and dynamic relationship between them. Overall, our study emphasizes the crucial role of rural industry integration in bridging the urban–rural divide and fostering sustainable agricultural development and rural revitalization. The insights gained from this research provide valuable guidance for policymakers and stakeholders seeking to optimize rural development strategies and unlock the potential of integrated rural industries.

In this work, we introduce a novel coherent perfect absorber, accentuating its novelty by emphasizing the broad bandwidth, reduced thickness, tunable property, and straightforward design achieved through the use of an asymmetric graphene metasurface. This design incorporates both square and circular graphene patches arranged on either side of a silicon substrate. With an optimized structural design, this absorber consistently captures over 90% of incoming waves across the frequency range of 1.65 to 4.49 THz, with a graphene Fermi level of 0.8 eV, and the whole device measures just 1.5 um thick. This makes our absorber significantly more effective and compact than previous designs. The absorber’s effectiveness can be significantly enhanced by combining the metasurface’s geometric design with the graphene Fermi level. It is anticipated that this ultrathin, wideband coherent perfect absorption device will play a crucial role in emerging on-chip THz communication technologies, including light modulators, photodetectors, and so on.

Chemotherapy is the treatment of choice for gastric cancer, but the currently available therapeutic drugs have limited efficacy. Studies have suggested that gastric cancer stem cells may play a key role in drug resistance in chemotherapy. Therefore, new agents that selectively target gastric cancer stem cells in gastric tumors are urgently required. Sirtuin-3 (SIRT3) is a deacetylase that regulates mitochondrial metabolic homeostasis to maintain stemness in glioma stem cells. Targeting the mitochondrial protein SIRT3 may provide a novel therapeutic option for gastric cancer treatment. However, the mechanism by which stemness is regulated through SIRT3 inhibition in gastric cancer remains unknown. We evaluated the stemness inhibition ability of the SIRT3 inhibitor 4′-bromo-resveratrol (4-BR), an analog of resveratrol in human gastric cancer cells. Our results suggested that 4-BR inhibited gastric cancer cell stemness through the SIRT3-c-Jun N-terminal kinase pathway and may aid in gastric cancer stem-cell–targeted therapy.

Cancer stemness is the process by which cancer cells acquire chemoresistance and self-renewal in the tumor microenvironment. Glucose-regulated protein 78 (GRP78) is a biomarker for gastric cancer and is involved in cancer stemness. By inducing cancer stemness in various types of cancer, the polarization of macrophages into tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) controls tumor progression. Betulinic acid (BA) is a bioactive natural compound with anticancer properties. However, whether GRP78 regulates TAM-mediated cancer stemness in the tumor microenvironment and whether BA inhibits GRP78-mediated cancer stemness in gastric cancer remain unknown. In this study, we investigated the role of GRP78 in gastric cancer stemness in a tumor microenvironment regulated by BA. The results indicated that BA inhibited not only GRP78-mediated stemness-related protein expression and GRP78-TGF-β-mediated macrophage polarization into TAMs, but also TAM-mediated cancer stemness. Therefore, BA is a promising candidate for clinical application in combination-chemotherapy targeting cancer stemness.

Objective: To explore the characteristics of metabolites in Shenheling (SHL) fermented by Lactobacillus fermentum. Methods: In this study, ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole electrostatic field orbit trap mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QE-MS) was used to qualitatively, quantitatively, and differentially analyze the metabolites of SHL before and after fermentation. Results: A total of 102 significant differential metabolites in nine categories were analyzed before and after fermentation. It mainly includes 29 terpenoids, 17 alkaloids, 14 organic acids and derivatives, 10 flavonoids, 9 phenylpropanoids, 6 phenols, 3 aromaticity, and 3 amino acid derivatives. Further screening found that the content of most active substances, such as alkaloids, organic acids, and flavonoids, increased significantly. These metabolites play an important role in improving the taste and efficacy of SHL. After fermentation, the contents of differential metabolites, such as panaquinquecol 2, ginsenoside Rh3, ginsenoside Rg3, dehydronuciferin, nicotinic acid, 5-hydroxytryptophan, azelaic acid, dihydrokaempferol, and chrysin, were increased, which increased the effects of antioxidation, anti-obesity, hypoglycemic, antibacterial, and improved immunity compared with those before fermentation. KEGG pathway analysis identified 10 metabolic pathways. Isoquinoline alkaloid biosynthesis, vitamin B6 metabolism, beta-alanine metabolism, nicotinate, and nicotinamide metabolism, purine metabolism, pantothenate and CoA biosynthesis, glyoxylate and dicarboxylate metabolism, tyrosine metabolism, citrate cycle (TCA cycle), phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, etc. Conclusions: Fermentation significantly changed the metabolites in SHL and played an important role in improving its taste, aroma quality, antioxidant, anti-obesity, and other health care functional components.

Farmers’ cooperatives play an important role in enabling small farmers to integrate into modern agriculture. Based on the survey data of 7200 farmers in four provinces of China, this paper uses the multi-dimensional poverty measurement method and the instrumental variable method to reveal the transmission mechanism and multi-dimensional poverty reduction effect of farmers’ cooperatives in deep poverty-stricken areas in China to realize joint agricultural empowerment through the supply chain. The results show that farmers’ cooperatives play an important role in enhancing small farmers’ financing, technology application, market sales, and rights decision-making. Every increase in the degree of interest connection between the two will help farmers reduce the multi-dimensional poverty level by 12.3%, and the mitigation effects on material poverty, ability poverty, and rights poverty are between 10% and 13%. Compared with agricultural cooperatives with weak organizational service capacity, cooperatives with high organizational service capacity have a more significant multi-dimensional poverty reduction effect on farmers, which leads to farmers obtaining financing and improving their ability and income. In addition, the difference in benefit coupling between agricultural cooperatives and farmers of different leading bodies also results in the heterogeneity of multi-dimensional poverty alleviation effects of farmers. To a certain extent, the supply chain is affected by the risk endowment of members, the supply chain’s poverty alleviation performance is affected by members’ supply chain’s poverty alleviation performance, and there is a certain risk transfer and “distribution failure”. Therefore, optimizing the benefit coupling structure and risk sharing mechanism between farmers’ cooperatives and farmers has become an important way to break the pattern of “the strong are always strong” and “distribution failure” for supply chain members and farmers.

Metabolic (dysfunction) associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is one of the most prevalent liver diseases and has no approved therapeutics. The high failure rates witnessed in late-phase MAFLD drug trials reflect the complexity of the disease, and how the disease develops and progresses remains to be fully understood. In vitro, human disease models play a pivotal role in mechanistic studies to unravel novel disease drivers and in drug testing studies to evaluate human-specific responses. This review focuses on MAFLD disease modeling using human cell and organoid models. The spectrum of patient-derived primary cells and immortalized cell lines employed to model various liver parenchymal and non-parenchymal cell types essential for MAFLD development and progression is discussed. Diverse forms of cell culture platforms utilized to recapitulate tissue-level pathophysiology in different stages of the disease are also reviewed.

Obesity is a complex chronic, relapsing, progressive disease. Association studies have linked microbiome alterations with obesity and overweight. However, the results are not always consistent. An integrated analysis of 4282 fecal samples (2236 control (normal weight) group, 1152 overweight, and 894 simple obesity) was performed to identify obesity-associated microbial markers. Based on a random effects model and a fixed effects model, we calculated the odds ratios of the metrics, including bacterial alpha-diversity, beta-diversity, Bacteroidetes/Firmicutes ratio, common genera, and common pathways, between the simple obesity and control groups as well as the overweight and control groups. The random forest model was trained based on a single dataset at the genus level. Feature selection based on feature importance ranked by mean decrease accuracy and leave-one-out cross-validation was conducted to improve the predictive performance of the models. Chao1 and evenness possessed significant ORs higher than 1.0 between the obesity and control groups. Significant bacterial community differences were observed between the simple obesity and the control. The ratio of Bacteroidetes/Firmicutes was significantly higher in simple obesity patients. The relative abundance of Lachnoclostridium and Faecalitalea were higher in people with simple obesity, while 23 genera, including Christensenellaceae_R-7_group, Akkermansia, Alistipes, and Butyricimonas, etc., were significantly lower. The random forest model achieved a high accuracy (AUC = 0.83). The adenine and adenosine salvage pathway (PWY-6609) and the L-histidine degradation I pathway (HISDEG-PWY) were clustered in obese patients, while amino acid biosynthesis and degradation pathways (HISDEG-PWY, DAPLYSINESYN-PWY) were decreased. This study identified obesity microbial biomarkers, providing fertile targets for the management of obesity.

In several rural areas of China, ecological public welfare work is an effective way to improve farmers’ social participation. This job does not only increase farmers’ income but also greatly improves their enthusiasm for ecological environment protection. Under the goal of carbon neutrality in peak carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, it is necessary to explore the impact of ecological public welfare jobs on the usage of Clean Energy (CE) in rural areas. Based on the data of 1100 farmers from Tibet areas in China, this paper applied the Ordered Probit model to explore the impact of ecological public welfare jobs on farmers’ use of CE. The results are as follows: (1) Holding ecological public welfare jobs can raise farmers’ willingness to use CE; (2) Holding ecological public welfare jobs can also promote farmers’ use of CE by enhancing their ecological environment cognition and influencing their social behavior; (3) The impact of ecological public welfare work on CE use has regional and income heterogeneities. Firstly, this effect is smaller in mixed pastoral-farming areas than in agricultural and pastoral areas. Secondly, this effect is more obvious in low-income groups. Our study provided several policies aimed at improving rural and environmental development.

A valley-Hall-like photonic insulator based on C3v Kagome split-ring is proposed. Theoretical analysis and numerical calculations illustrate that C3v symmetry can be broken not only by global rotation α but also individual rotation θ of the split rings, providing topological phase transitions. Furthermore, refraction of the edge state from the interface into the background space at Zigzag termination is explored. It is shown that positive/negative refraction of the outgoing beam depends on the type of valley (K or K′), from which the edge state is projected. These results provide a new way to manipulate terahertz wave propagation and facilitate the potential applications in directional collimation, beam splitting, negative refraction image, etc.

Plasmonic fishnet structures are proposed to realize dual-band terahertz (THz) left-handed metamaterials (LHMs). The calculated permittivity ε and permeability μ of single-layer LHMs show that ε < 0 and μ < 0 can be simultaneously satisfied in two frequency bands, resulting in dual-band LHMs. The electric and magnetic field distributions are consistent with the current distributions and confirm the physical mechanism of negative permeability. Furthermore, the existence of negative refraction is validated by a stacked LHMs prism with an angle of 1.79°. It is shown that at 2.04–2.42 THz and 3.12–3.28 THz bands, negative refractive indices of the prism can be obtained, facilitating the practical application of LHMs in THz image, sensor, detection, communication, and so on.

We experimentally demonstrate that high-resolution terahertz focusing can be realized in planar metalenses, which consist of arrays of different V-shaped antenna units on a silicon substrate. Numerical results show that a larger numerical aperture of metalenses can provide smaller full width at half maximum of field distribution, leading to higher spatial resolution. The measurement of fabricated metalenses samples was performed by a terahertz near-field imaging system, and experimental results agree well with the numerical prediction. Especially for 1.1 THz incident light, when the numerical aperture increases from 0.79 to 0.95, the full width at half maximum correspondingly decreases from 343 μm to 206 μm, offering an improvement of spatial resolution.

The locomotive ability of a water strider that generates an ellipse-like spatial stroke trajectory when moving is proved to improve its moving efficiency and is seldom imitated by water strider robots. A hydrodynamic analysis can predict the performance of the robots, but research in this area is not enough. A buoyancy-supported water strider robot with the ability of producing an ellipse-like spatial stroke trajectory was designed and analyzed in this study. A semiempirical hydrodynamic model suitable for the buoyancy-supported robot was proposed to study the hydrodynamic characteristics, based on the Newton’s second law of motion. The speed, power and efficiency of the robot were analyzed on the basis of the model which confirmed that the robot performing an ellipse-like spatial stroke trajectory was conducive to its moving efficiency. The experimental results verified that the stroke mechanism produced an ellipse-like spatial trajectory in a practical application and that the robot had good mobility. The proposed hydrodynamic model was validated by comparing the theoretical speed of the robot to the experimental results.

Auxin response factors (ARFs) are important regulators modulating the expression of auxin-responsive genes in various biological processes in plants. In the Populus genome, a total of 39 ARF members have been identified, but their detailed functions are still unclear. In this study, six poplar auxin response factor 2 (PtrARF2) members were isolated from P. trichocarpa. Expression pattern analysis showed that PtrARF2.1 is highly expressed in leaf tissues compared with other PtrARF2 genes and significantly repressed by exogenous auxin treatment. PtrARF2.1 is a nuclear-localized protein without transcriptional activation activity. Knockdown of PtrARF2.1 by RNA interference (RNAi) in poplars led to the dwarf plant, altered leaf shape, and reduced size of the leaf blade, while overexpression of PtrARF2.1 resulted in a slight reduction in plant height and the similar leaf phenotype in contrast to the wildtype. Furthermore, histological staining analysis revealed an ectopic deposition of lignin in leaf veins and petioles of PtrARF2.1-RNAi lines. RNA-Seq analysis showed that 74 differential expression genes (DEGs) belonging to 12 transcription factor families, such as NAM, ATAF and CUC (NAC), v-myb avian myeloblastosis viral oncogene homolog (MYB), ethylene response factors (ERF) and basic helix−loop−helix (bHLH), were identified in PtrARF2.1-RNAi leaves and other 24 DEGs were associated with the lignin biosynthetic pathway. Altogether, the data indicate that PtrARF2.1 plays an important role in regulating leaf development and influences the lignin biosynthesis in poplars.

Artificial upwelling is a geoengineering method to repair and improve marine ecosystems, and its operation requires long-term and continuous temperature field observation. However, existing methods are rarely seen to accomplish such observation. In this study, we investigate the coastal acoustic tomography (CAT) to obtain the long-term horizontal temperature field of an artificial upwelling area in an anechoic tank. We conduct four sets of experiments with different CAT station numbers and compare their data with those collected from temperature sensors. By analyzing the travel time from the CAT experiments, the horizontal temperature field of the upwelling area could be mapped. The CAT results and the comparison results show that the surface temperature of the observed area decreases by approximately 3 °C after upwelling, while the temperature of where the CAT is deployed decreases by about 1 °C; the temperature is lowest at the center of the upwelling area. Increasing the number of stations and station spacing would improve the temperature mapping accuracy. Therefore, the feasibility of using the CAT system to observe artificial upwelling is proved valid. This study indicates the potential application of CAT in temperature field observation in artificial upwelling area in the sea.

Strained silicon (ε-Si) is a promising material that could extend Moore’s law by enhancing electron mobility. A ε-Si material is usually composed of multiscale, multilayer heterostructures, where the strained-silicon film or strap is tens-of-nanometers thick, and its buffer layers are of the micrometer scale. The structural properties determine the electrical performance and reliability of ε-Si-based devices. Inhomogeneous residual stress is induced during the preparation, which induces ε-Si structure failure. In this work, biaxial strained-silicon films that contain graded and relaxed germanium-silicon buffer layers were prepared on monocrystalline silicon wafers through reduced-pressure chemical-vapor epitaxy. The layer components and thicknesses were measured using energy-dispersive spectroscopy and scanning-electron microscopy. Crystal and lattice characters were observed by using high-resolution transmission-electron microscopy and micro-Raman spectroscopy. The residual stress distribution along cross-sections of the ε-Si multilayer structures was examined by using micro-Raman mapping. The experimental results showed that, with a gradual increase in germanium concentration, the increasing residual stress was suppressed owing to dislocation networks and dislocation loops inside the buffer layers, which favored the practical application.

Trace detection of explosives has been an ongoing challenge for decades and has become one of several critical problems in defense science; public safety; and global counter-terrorism. As a result, there is a growing interest in employing a wide variety of approaches to detect trace explosive residues. Spectroscopy-based techniques play an irreplaceable role for the detection of energetic substances due to the advantages of rapid, automatic, and non-contact. The present work provides a comprehensive review of the advances made over the past few years in the fields of the applications of terahertz (THz) spectroscopy; laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS), Raman spectroscopy; and ion mobility spectrometry (IMS) for trace explosives detection. Furthermore, the advantages and limitations of various spectroscopy-based detection techniques are summarized. Finally, the future development for the detection of explosives is discussed.
