This paper introduces the prototype design, magnetic field analysis and experimental test of a double-rotating ferrofluid vane micropump with an embedded fixed magnet. The micropump is based on the working principle of a positive-displacement pump, as well as the magnetic characteristics and flow properties of magnetic fluid. Through the numerical analysis of the pump cavity magnetic field and the experimental test, the structural parameters of the micropump are optimized reasonably. The pumping flow and pumping height of the micropump were characterized at different driving speeds. The maximum pumping flow rate is approximately 410 μL/min, and the maximum pumping height is approximately 111.4 mm water column. The micropump retains the advantages of simple structure, easy manufacture, flexible control, self-sealing, self-lubrication, low heat production, etc., and can block the pumped liquid backflow. The resulting double-rotating ferrofluid blades can improve pumping efficiency and pumping capacity, and can improve pumping reliability and stability to a certain extent.

Peridot has a long history and is deeply loved by people for its unique olive-green color. The Yiqisong peridot deposit in Jilin Province is a newly discovered peridot deposit that still deserves systematic research. In this study, gemological and chemical analyses of thirty-three Yiqisong peridot samples were carried out to investigate the gemological characteristics, as well as the mantle properties and formation conditions of the Yiqisong. In addition, we identified gemological differences in peridot between Yiqisong, Tanzania, and Arizona. The Yiqisong peridot samples have typical peridot gemological characteristics. The UV–visible spectrum indicated that Fe is the chromogenic element. The infrared spectra and Raman spectra of different samples are consistent, which indicates that the Yiqisong peridot belongs to forsterite. The contents of Ni and V in Yiqisong peridot are generally low, distinguishing it from peridot found in Tanzania and Arizona. The major and trace elements of samples show that the Yiqisong peridot is derived from the spinel lherzolite xenoliths with the P–T formation conditions of 813–1087 °C and 21–22 kbar. The Yisqisong peridot samples have relatively high Fo values (up to 91.6), supporting their origin from a moderate refractory lithosphere mantle. Therefore, this study provides gemological, mineralogical, and chemical evidence that fills the research gap in peridot deposit studies and lays the foundation for follow-up investigations of gem-grade peridot deposits.

Viruses pose a significant threat to human health, causing widespread diseases and impacting the global economy. Perilla frutescens, a traditional medicine and food homologous plant, is well known for its antiviral properties. This systematic review examines the antiviral potential of Perilla frutescens, including its antiviral activity, chemical structure and pharmacological parameters. Utilizing bioinformatics analysis, we revealed the correlation between Perilla frutescens and antiviral activity, identified overlaps between Perilla frutescens target genes and virus-related genes, and explored related signaling pathways. Moreover, a classified summary of the active components of Perilla frutescens, focusing on compounds associated with antiviral activity, provides important clues for optimizing the antiviral drug development of Perilla frutescens. Our findings indicate that Perilla frutescens showed a strong antiviral effect, and its active ingredients can effectively inhibit the replication and spread of a variety of viruses in this review. The antiviral mechanisms of Perilla frutescens may involve several pathways, including enhanced immune function, modulation of inflammatory responses, and inhibition of key enzyme activities such as viral replicase. These results underscore the potential antiviral application of Perilla frutescens as a natural plant and provide important implications for the development of new antiviral drugs.

The zoning excavation method is fully employed to control the deformation of foundation pits constructed in urban soft soil areas. However, the similarities and differences in forces and deformations between foundation pits excavated by the zonal method and those excavated by the conventional method still need to be further explored. In this study, the deformation was monitored and analyzed by taking the zonal excavation of a foundation pit of the ‘New World’ project in Hangzhou City as the research object. The measured results showed that the pre-built diaphragm wall for the first excavated foundation pit restricted the deformation of the first excavated diaphragm wall. The presence of extensive construction and unloading activities also changed the deformation pattern of the soil. Further, finite element simulations were carried out. The simulation results revealed that excavating the foundation pit first caused displacements in the pre-built diaphragm wall. The displacements transmitted by non-adjacent pits through the pre-built diaphragm wall were small and were concentrated at the junction of the two sub-pits. Adjacent foundation pits caused large displacements of the pre-built diaphragm wall with similar displacement patterns. The results of the study can provide effective guidance for foundation pit excavation in soft soil areas in the future.

Urban public transport line formulation has its appeal in promoting public convenience and developing environmentally friendly cities. During the bus line planning stage, the line frequency and stop location determination is a key issue for decision makers. Our study focuses on the integrated formulation problem between line frequency and stop planning featuring multi-type vehicles. The multi-type vehicles are able to accommodate the various passenger demands at either peak hours or off-peak hours. The a priori magnitudes of user demands are investigated by drone-based technique methods in the tactical-level plan. The collected geospatial data can assist the public transport user forecast. A mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model is proposed. The objective is to minimize the walking cost of passengers, the building cost of stops, and the operation cost of service frequency. The effectiveness of the model is validated by a real case in Nantong, China. CPLEX is used to resolve the MILP model. Yielding to the budget constraint, in high-price, medium-price, and low-price scenarios, the optimal high-quantity stop scheme can save 3.04%, 3.11%, and 3.38% in overall cost compared with the medium-quantity stop scheme, respectively; their cost savings are 8.53%, 8.70%, and 9.09% more than the costs of the low-quantity stop scheme.

Land disputes have significantly disrupted legal order, production, and social harmony, and has been regarded as a quintessential challenge in public governance, attracting worldwide attentions from scholars. As an emblematic feature of China’s latest reform and opening-up strategy, the Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB) in China has experienced rapid development after entering the new era (2012–2021) alongside substantial risks and challenges, particularly regarding land disputes. Better understanding of the manifestation and formation mechanism of new characteristics of land disputes is beneficial for contemporary public governance and for achieving a high-quality development of the YREB, whose Gross Domestic Product (GDP) accounted for 46.3% of the national GDP in 2023. A total of 325,105 land dispute cases in 11 provinces or municipalities of the YREB from 2012 to 2021 were collected and analyzed. On this basis, an evaluation index system of the new characteristics of land disputes, named the overall land dispute (OLD) index, was constructed according to measurement theory by coupling the interactions of quantity, claim amounts, duration periods, and the appeal rate of land dispute. Then, the OLD index was evaluated by descriptive statistical methods, a geographic information system (GIS) spatial analysis, a center of gravity model, kernel density estimation, and Theil index methods, to reveal the new characteristics and formation mechanisms of land disputes in the YREB from 2012 to 2021. The results indicated that: (1) The OLD index exhibited a trend of an initial increase followed by a decline, indicating that land disputes in the YREB showed signs of alleviation. (2) The government’s capacity for resolving land disputes was significantly improved, as evidenced by the decline in the OLD index from 0.59 in 2018 to 0.51 in 2021. This improvement could be attributed to the effectiveness of enhanced governmental working mechanisms, regulatory standards, and the integration of digital technologies. (3) The analysis of the center of gravity model indicated that the focus of land disputes shifted westward, propelled by national policy support for upstream regions of the YREB and the need for land ecological protection. (4) The analysis of kernel density estimation indicated that regional disparities in land disputes within the YREB had declined, driven by a positive trend toward balanced regional development and rural governance. This study provides scientific insights into the new characteristics of land disputes in the YREB and guidance for policy decision making on effective land dispute management.

(1) Background: Sophora subprostrate, is the dried root and rhizome of Sophora tonkinensis Gagnep. Sophora subprostrate polysaccharide (SSP1) was extracted from Sophora subprostrate, which has shown good anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Previous studies showed SSP1 could modulate inflammatory damage induced by porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) in murine splenic lymphocytes, but the specific regulatory mechanism is unclear. (2) Methods: Whole transcriptome analysis was used to characterize the differentially expressed mRNA, lncRNA, and miRNA in PCV2-infected cells and SSP1-treated infected cells. Gene Ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) and other analyses were used to screen for key inflammation-related differentially expressed genes. The sequencing results were verified by RT-qPCR, and western blot was used to verify the key protein in main enriched signal pathways. (3) Results: SSP1 can regulate inflammation-related gene changes induced by PCV2, and its interventional mechanism is mainly involved in the key differential miRNA including miR-7032-y, miR-328-y, and miR-484-z. These inflammation-related genes were mainly enriched in the TNF signal pathway and NF-κB signal pathway, and SSP1 could significantly inhibit the protein expression levels of p-IκB, p-p65, TNF-α, IRF1, GBP2 and p-SAMHD1 to alleviate inflammatory damage. (4) Conclusions: The mechanism of SSP1 regulating PCV2-induced murine splenic lymphocyte inflammation was explored from a whole transcriptome perspective, which provides a theoretical basis for the practical application of SSP1.

Photocatalytic technology, which is regarded as a green route to transform solar energy into chemical fuels, plays an important role in the fields of energy and environmental protection. An emerging S-scheme heterojunction with the tightly coupled interface, whose photocatalytic efficiency exceeds those of conventional type II and Z-scheme photocatalysts, has received much attention due to its rapid charge carrier separation and strong redox capacity. This review provides a systematic description of S-scheme heterojunction in the photocatalysis, including its development, reaction mechanisms, preparation, and characterization methods. In addition, S-scheme photocatalysts for CO2 reduction are described in detail by categorizing them as 0D/1D, 0D/2D, 0D/3D, 2D/2D, and 2D/3D. Finally, some defects of S-scheme heterojunctions are pointed out, and the future development of S-scheme heterojunctions is proposed.

Absent in melanoma 2 (AIM2), a key component of the IFI20X/IFI16 (PYHIN) protein family, is characterized as a DNA sensor to detect cytosolic bacteria and DNA viruses. However, little is known about its immunological role during pathogenic Clostridium perfringens (C. perfringens) infection, an extracellular bacterial pathogen. In a pathogenic C. perfringens gas gangrene model, Aim2−/− mice are more susceptible to pathogenic C. perfringens soft tissue infection, revealing the importance of AIM2 in host protection. Notably, Aim2 deficiency leads to a defect in bacterial killing and clearance. Our in vivo and in vitro findings further establish that inflammasome signaling is impaired in the absence of Aim2 in response to pathogenic C. perfringens. Mechanistically, inflammasome signaling downstream of active AIM2 promotes pathogen control. Importantly, pathogenic C. perfringens-derived genomic DNA triggers inflammasome signaling activation in an AIM2-dependent manner. Thus, these observations uncover a central role for AIM2 in host defense and triggering innate immunity to combat pathogenic C. perfringens infections.

Crater detection can provide valuable information for humans to explore the topography and understand the history of extraterrestrial planets. Due to the significantly varying scenario distributions, existing detection models trained on known labelled crater datasets are hardly effective when applied to new unlabelled planets. To address this issue, we propose a two-stage adaptive network (TAN) for semi-supervised cross-domain crater detection. Our network is built on the YOLOv5 detector, where a series of strategies are employed to enhance its cross-domain generalisation ability. In the first stage, we propose an attention-based scale-adaptive fusion (ASAF) strategy to handle objects with significant scale variances. Furthermore, we propose a smoothing hard example mining (SHEM) loss function to address the issue of overfitting on hard examples. In the second stage, we propose a sort-based pseudo-labelling fine-tuning (SPF) strategy for semi-supervised learning to mitigate the distributional differences between source and target domains. For both stages, we employ weak or strong image augmentation to suit different cross-domain tasks. Experimental results on benchmark datasets demonstrate that the proposed network can enhance domain adaptation ability for crater detection under varying scenario distributions.

In order to study the hydration absorption behaviors and characteristics of sandstone in Mogao Grottoes in China, the pressure-less hydration absorption experiment on the outcrop porous sandstone of Mogao Grottoes was carried out by using the self-developed real-time monitoring experimental system. The hydration absorption was measured and the curve of hydration absorption with time was drawn. At the same time, the digital image correlation method (DIC) was used to measure the full-field deformation, and the speckle pattern of the sample was analyzed using Match ID, and the displacement field and strain field of the sandstone sample at different hydration absorption moments were computed. Moreover, the sparse area and dense area of sandstone are used as regions of interest (ROI) for DIC analysis. According to the test results, it is concluded that the hydration absorption of sandstone increases rapidly in the initial stage, and gradually tends to be stable with the change of time. This corresponds well with the deformation characteristics of sandstone analyzed using DIC. In the initial stage, the deformation of sandstone increases rapidly. With the change in time, the deformation of sandstone samples gradually slows down. When the hydration adsorption reaches saturation, the sandstone continues to deform for a period of time before stopping hydration absorption. The results of the mercury injection test and the XRD test show that the porosity of the sparse area is larger than that of the dense area and the particle content of the dense area is lower. When the sandstone is saturated with water, the liquid is immersed in the pores between the solid particles, which makes the sparse area more prone to stress concentration, and the deformation in the sparse area is larger. Therefore, when analyzing the hydration absorption deformation of sandstone, the porosity should be considered.

In this paper, I examine the iconography, religious function and text–image relationship of one of the earliest illustrations of the apocryphal Visualization Sūtra, namely, the mural painting on the left (south) wall of Cave 20 at the Toyok Grottoes in Turfan created in the late sixth century. I study this mural with a structuralist approach to situate it within the overall pictorial program of the cave temple. I argue that this wall painting was designed as a set of visual and verbal cues to assist the meditating monks in situ to separately visualize the different individual visions constituting the “Thirteen Visualizations” taught in the sutra, excluding the five visions directly related to the Amitāyus Triad, namely, the eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh and thirteenth visualizations. These five visualizations were likely facilitated by icons of the Amitāyus Triad placed in the center of the cave. The meditators started from the contemplations of the impure represented on the right (north) wall as preparatory practices to eliminate their sins, improve their karma and thereby enhance their spiritual purity to a level appropriate for performing the Pure Land visualizations. They then turned to the left wall to perform the Pure Land visualizations represented there that end with the twelfth visualization: imagining oneself being reborn in Sukhāvatī. Continuing from the twelfth visualization, the meditators facing the rear wall entered the Western Pure Land via the lotus ponds represented on the rear wall while in a state of meditational concentration.

High-speed health trains have the advantages of large rescue volume, strong continuous operation capability, and medical treatment on the way. It is the best transport platform for large-scale medical transfer tasks. To solve the problem of space limitations and the vehicle formation of high-speed health trains, a new method of space layout design and evaluation of high-speed health trains based on improved systematic layout planning (SLP) was proposed. First, SLP was improved, and the relationship between functional carriages was reasonably marshaled using the improved SLP. Then, according to the space constraints of high-speed trains and the requirements of the man–machine environment, the space layout of the vehicles was designed, and 3ds MAX software was used to visualize the designed layout structure. Finally, the static and dynamic simulation effects and adaptability of the design scheme were evaluated using the digital virtual simulation software JACK. The design scheme can meet the requirements of human–computer interaction efficiency. Compared with previous studies, the results of this study reflect the superiority and rationality of the design in functional configuration, space utilization, medical treatment, and injury-carrying capacity. The results of this study can provide theoretical support for the formation of high-speed health trains, and provide a reference for the research and development of such trains. It has certain practical application value.

Objectives: COVID-19 infection confers an increased risk of coagulation dysfunction (1) predisposing to thromboembolism in many anatomical sites including the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) (2). This study investigates the clinical presentation and outcome in patients presenting with concurrent COVID-19 infection and gastrointestinal tract ischaemia. Furthermore, differentiation and comparisons are drawn between those with arterial and venous aetiology for mesenteric ischaemia. Methods: A systematic search was undertaken on EMBASE, PubMed, and MEDLINE. Two independent reviewers screened titles, abstracts, and full-text articles according to the inclusion criteria and extracted relevant data. Data analyses were conducted using Excel®. Results: Forty-one studies were included in the data analyses, yielding 44 patients. Twenty-six patients had mesenteric arterial occlusion, sixteen patients had mesenteric venous occlusion, and two patients had both arterial and venous mesenteric occlusion. All patients had concurrent COVID-19 infection. The survival rate in patients with arterial aetiology was 38.5% in contrast to 68.8% in patients with venous aetiology. Twelve patients (29.3%) experienced respiratory symptoms in the community before the onset of gastrointestinal symptoms, and five (12.2%) developed gastrointestinal symptoms during their inpatient stay for COVID-19 pneumonitis. Conclusions: Acute mesenteric ischaemia presents a clinical challenge to diagnose due to its non-specific symptoms. Concurrent COVID-19 infection with its predominant respiratory symptoms adds a further challenge in recognising the non-specific symptoms of mesenteric ischaemia. Our study draws attention to the increased thromboembolic risk posed by COVID-19 infection and the need for a high index of suspicion to aid prompt diagnosis and management of acute mesenteric ischaemia, even in the post-pandemic era.

This paper addresses the enhancement of modern security through the integration of electrocardiograms (ECGs) into biometric authentication systems. As technology advances, the demand for reliable identity authentication systems has grown, given the rise in breaches associated with traditional techniques that rely on unique biological and behavioral traits. These techniques are emerging as more reliable alternatives. Among the biological features used for authentication, ECGs offer unique advantages, including resistance to forgery, real-time detection, and continuous identification ability. A key contribution of this work is the introduction of a variant of the ECG time-slicing technique that outperforms existing ECG-based authentication methods. By leveraging machine learning algorithms and tailor-made compact data learning techniques, this research presents a more robust, reliable biometric authentication system. The findings could lead to significant advancements in network information security, with potential applications across various internet and mobile services.

The traditional process of producing Zhenjiang aromatic vinegar faces challenges such as high water usage, wastewater generation, raw material losses, and limitations in mechanization and workshop conditions. This study introduces and evaluates a novel dry gelatinization process, focusing on fermentation efficiency and the vinegar flavor profile. The new process shows a 39.1% increase in alcohol conversion efficiency and a 14% higher yield than the traditional process. Vinegar produced through the dry gelatinization process has a stronger umami taste and a higher lactic acid concentration. Both processes detected 33 volatile substances, with the dry gelatinization process showing a notably higher concentration of 2-methylbutanal, which imparts a distinct fruity and chocolate aroma. These findings suggest that the dry gelatinization process outperforms the traditional process in several aspects.

Nanotechnology-enabled pesticide delivery systems have been widely studied and show great prospects in modern agriculture. Nanodelivery systems not only achieve the controlled release of agrochemicals but also possess many unique characteristics. This study presents the development of a pH-responsive pesticide nanoformulation utilizing hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticles (HMSNs) as a nanocarrier. The nanocarrier was loaded with the photosensitive pesticide prochloraz (Pro) and then combined with ZnO quantum dots (ZnO QDs) through electrostatic interactions. ZnO QDs serve as both the pH-responsive gatekeeper and the enhancer of the pesticide. The results demonstrate that the prepared nanopesticide exhibits high loading efficiency (24.96%) for Pro. Compared with Pro technical, the degradation rate of Pro loaded in HMSNs@Pro@ZnO QDs was reduced by 26.4% after 24 h ultraviolet (UV) exposure, indicating clearly improved photostability. In a weak acidic environment (pH 5.0), the accumulated release of the nanopesticide after 48 h was 2.67-fold higher than that in a neutral environment. This indicates the excellent pH-responsive characteristic of the nanopesticide. The tracking experiments revealed that HMSNs can be absorbed by rice leaves and subsequently transported to other tissues, indicating their potential for effective systemic distribution and targeted delivery. Furthermore, the bioactivity assays confirmed the fungicidal efficacy of the nanopesticide against rice blast disease. Therefore, the constructed nanopesticide holds great prospect in nanoenabled agriculture, offering a novel strategy to enhance pesticide utilization.

Begonia × benariensis series varieties have high ornamental and economic value and are excellent varieties for large-area group planting in gardens and green areas. At present, the B. × benariensis series varieties grown in China rely on foreign imports, and the price of imported germplasm resources is expensive, which greatly increases the cost of flower enterprises. In view of this, B. × benariensis (2n = 2x = 34) was used as the material, the callus was treated with colchicine to induce polyploid plants, and the polyploid plants were subjected to morphology, DNA content identification, and stomatal identification, as well as comparisons of the morphophysiological indexes of the plants. The results showed that the polyploid was better induced with the treatment of 0.05% colchicine for 4 h, and the induction rate was 46.67%. Among the mutagenized plants, there were 42 triploids (2n = 3x = 51) and 98 tetraploids (2n = 4x = 68). The stomatal density of diploid leaves was about 1.09 times that of the triploid and 1.67 times that of the tetraploid, the defense cells of the leaves increased gradually, and the stomatal density decreased; with the increase in ploidy, the height of the plants increased, while the crown width decreased; the maximum length and width of the leaves decreased, the color of the leaves became darker, and the chlorophyll content increased. This study provides abundant variation materials and technical support for the selection and breeding of new varieties of B. × benariensis in the future.

In the application of Compressive Sensing (CS) theory for sidelobe suppression in Random Frequency and Pulse Repetition Interval Agile (RFPA) radar, the off−grid issues affect the performance of target parameter estimation in RFPA radar. Therefore, to address this issue, this paper presents an off−grid CS algorithm named Refinement and Generalized Double Pareto (GDP) distribution based on Sparse Bayesian Learning (RGDP−SBL) for RFPA radar that utilizes a coarse−to−fine grid refinement approach, allowing precise and cost−effective signal recovery while mitigating the impact of off−grid issues on target parameter estimation. To obtain a high-precision signal recovery, especially in scenarios involving closely spaced targets, the RGDP−SBL algorithm makes use of a three−level hierarchical prior model. Furthermore, the RGDP−SBL algorithm efficiently utilizes diagonal elements during the coarse search and exploits the convexity of the grid energy curve during the fine search, therefore significantly reducing computational complexity. Simulation results demonstrate that the RGDP−SBL algorithm significantly improves signal recovery performance while maintaining low computational complexity in multiple scenarios for RFPA radar.

In order to investigate the influence of freshwater fish ponds on water and salt transport in cultivated wasteland in salinized areas, a typical study area was selected in the middle and lower reaches of the Hetao Irrigation District in China in the Yichang Irrigation Domain, and the temporal and spatial changes in the salinity of soil and salinity of groundwater and fish pond water in the cultivated–wasteland–fish pond system were characterized through the monitoring of the environmental information of soil and groundwater at the boundaries of the cultivated land, wasteland, and fish ponds. Salinity changes and groundwater migration in different periods were determined, and the response of soil salinity to the depth of groundwater burial was analyzed, as well as the effect of fish ponds on soil salinization. The results showed that the amount of groundwater migrating from cropland to wasteland during the simulation period in 2022 was 2700 m3, the amount of groundwater migrating from wasteland to fish ponds was 630 m3, and the amount of groundwater migrating from fish ponds to wasteland during the fall watering period was 440 m3. From an overall perspective, the average soil salinity of wasteland was 1.56 times higher than that of the boundary of fish ponds. Not only do fish ponds play a positive role in the ecosystem, but they also have a desalinization effect that reduces soil salinity significantly. Groundwater depth and soil salinity have an exponential relationship; when the depth of groundwater is greater than 1.75 m, the soil salinity varies little with the depth of groundwater and the soil salinity is less than 0.66 ds/m, which can be determined as the critical depth, and the average depth of groundwater in cultivated land in the study area is 1.5 m. Therefore, it is necessary to reasonably control the water level of fish ponds, so as to make the groundwater depth of cultivated land control between 1.75 m and 2.0 m, and to prevent soil salinization.

Titanite is a widespread accessory mineral in igneous, metamorphic, and hydrothermal rocks, but few comply with gem-grade requirements. Previous studies on Moroccan titanite focused on elementary composition and U-Pb dating. In this study, two gem-grade titanites (MA-1 and MA-2) from the Moroccan Central High Atlas were investigated through gemological and chemical studies, including infrared spectrum, Raman spectrum, SEM-EDS, and LA-ICP-MS. Two titanite samples are yellow, transparent–translucent with a greasy luster, 3.5 and 2.5 mm long. MA-1 and MA-2 have similar gemological properties, the refractive index (RI) is beyond the range of the refractometer (>1.78), the specific gravity (SG) values fall in the range of 3.52~3.54 and both are inert to short-wave and long-wave UV radiation. The spectral characteristics have high consistency with the RRUFF database. The major elements’ composition shows a negative correlation between Al, Fe, V, and Ti, suggesting the titanites underwent substitutions such as (Al, Fe3+) + (F, OH) ↔ Ti + O. The titanite samples, characterized by a low abundance of REE (802~4088 ppm) and enriched in LREE, exhibit positive Eu (δEu: 1.53~7.79) and Ce (δCe: 1.08~1.33) anomalies, indicating their formation in a hydrothermal environment with low oxygen fugacity. The 238U/206Pb and 207Pb/206Pb ratios of the titanites yield lower intercept ages of 152.6 ± 2.2 and 151.4 ± 5.3 Ma (1s), consistent with their weighted average 206Pb/238U ages of 152.3 ± 2.0 and 150.7 ± 3.2 Ma (1s) respectively. The results of U-Pb dating are matched with the second main magmatic activities in the High Atlas intracontinental belt of Morocco during the Mesozoic to Cenozoic period. Moreover, the two titanite samples have almost no radiational damage. All the results show that the titanite from High Atlas, Morocco, has the potential to be a reference material for LA-ICP-MS U–Pb dating, but further experiments are needed to be sure.

We previously showed that green tea polyphenols (GTPs) exert antiadipogenic effects on preadipocyte proliferation. Here, we investigated the regulatory effects of GTPs on osteogenesis and adipogenesis during early differentiation of human adipose tissue-derived stem cells (hADSC). Adipogenesis of hADSCs was determined by oil-red-O staining and triglycerides synthesis measurement. Osteoporosis of hADSC was measured using alkaline phosphatase assays and intracellular calcium levels. Immunofluorescence staining and qRT-PCR were used to detect PPARγ-CEBPA regulated adipogenic pathway regulated by PPAR-CEBPA and the osteogenic pathway mediated by RUNX2-BMP2. We found that GTPs treatment significantly decreased lipid accumulation and cellular triglyceride synthesis in mature adipocytes and attenuated pioglitazone-induced adipogenesis in a dose-dependent manner. GTPs downregulated protein and mRNA expression of Pparγ and attenuated pioglitazone-stimulated-Cebpa expression. GTPs treatment significantly enhanced hADSCs differentiation into osteoblasts compared to control and pioglitazone-treated cells. GTPs upregulated RunX2 and Bmp2 proteins and mRNA expression compared to control and significantly attenuated decreased RunX2 and Bmp2 mRNA expression by pioglitazone. In conclusion, our data demonstrates GTPs possesses great ability to facilitate osteogenesis and simultaneously inhibits hADSC differentiation into adipogenic lineage by upregulating the RUNX2-BMP2 mediated osteogenic pathway and suppressing PPARγ-induced signaling of adipogenesis. These findings highlight GTPs’ potential to combat osteoporosis associated with obesity.

To investigate the durability of cementitious materials under complex environmental conditions in Xinjiang, this study conducted durability tests on mortar specimens with different fly ash contents under dry/wet sulfate attack conditions, with standard curing and steam curing at 70 °C. The appearance loss and flexural and compressive strength variations in the specimens were analyzed, and an evolution model of the mortar strength under a dry/wet sulfate attack was established. Moreover, XRD and SEM techniques were used to characterize the erosion products and microstructure, and to explore the erosion resistance mechanism of fly ash cementitious materials. The results showed that, after 160 cycles of erosion, the flexural strength of the specimens decreased with the increase in the fly ash content. In the context of steam-cured mortar specimens, throughout the entire erosion period, specimens with a fly ash content of 45% exhibited the highest relative compressive strength. The established strength evolution model had a minimum determination coefficient of 0.879, indicating a good agreement between the model and experimental results. Microscopic research showed that fly ash would undergo a pozzolanic reaction under the action of sulfate and calcium hydroxide, which was beneficial to the improvement of the erosion resistance. As the fly ash content increased, the erosion products of the specimens gradually became dominated by gypsum.

Graphene oxide (GO), as a novel carbon-based nanomaterial (CBN), has been widely applied to every respect of social life due to its unique composite properties. The widespread use of GO inevitably promotes its interaction with heavy metal cadmium (Cd), and influences its functional behavior. However, little information is available on the effects of GO on greening hyperaccumulators under co-occurring Cd. In this study, we chose a typical greening hyperaccumulator (Lonicera japonica Thunb.) to show the effect of GO on Cd accumulation, growth, net photosynthesis rate (Pn), carbon sequestration and oxygen release functions of the plant under Cd stress. The different GO-Cd treatments were set up by (0, 10, 50 and 100 mg L−1) GO and (0, 5 and 25 mg L−1) Cd in solution culture. The maximum rate of Cd accumulation in the roots and shoots of the plant were increased by 10 mg L−1 GO (exposed to 5 mg L−1 Cd), indicating that low-concentration GO (10 mg L−1) combined with low-concentration Cd (5 mg L−1) might stimulate the absorption of Cd by L. japonica. Under GO treatments without Cd, the dry weight of root and shoot biomass, Pn value, carbon sequestration per unit leaf area and oxygen release per unit leaf area all increased in various degrees, especially under 10 mg L−1 GO, were 20.67%, 12.04%, 35% and 28.73% higher than the control. Under GO-Cd treatments, it is observed that the cooperation of low-concentration GO (10 mg L−1) and low-concentration Cd (5 mg L−1) could significantly stimulate Cd accumulation, growth, photosynthesis, carbon sequestration and oxygen release functions of the plant. These results indicated that suitable concentrations of GO could significantly alleviate the effects of Cd on L. japonica, which is helpful for expanding the phytoremediation application of greening hyperaccumulators faced with coexistence with environment of nanomaterials and heavy metals.

To investigate the mechanism of melatonin (MT)-mediated glutathione (GSH) in promoting glucoraphanin (GRA) and sulforaphane (SF) synthesis, the gene expression pattern and protein content of hairy broccoli roots under MT treatment were analyzed by a combination of RNA-seq and tandem mass spectrometry tagging (TMT) techniques in this study. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis revealed that both proteins and mRNAs with the same expression trend were enriched in the “Glutathione metabolism (ko00480)” and “Proteasome (ko03050)” pathways, and most of the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and differentially abundant proteins (DAPs) regulating the two pathways were downregulated. The results showed that endogenous GSH concentration and GR activity were increased in hairy roots after MT treatment. Exogenous GSH could promote the biosynthesis of GRA and SF, and both exogenous MT and GSH could upregulate the expression of the GSTF11 gene related to the sulfur transport gene, thus promoting the biosynthesis of GRA. Taken together, this study provides a new perspective to explore the complex molecular mechanisms of improving GRA and SF synthesis levels by MT and GSH regulation.

Minerals of the apatite group commonly occur in granite pegmatites, and their ability to incorporate a wide range of trace elements makes them a good indicator of magma composition and magmatic–hydrothermal processes. Gem-quality purple apatite crystals from the Dara-e-Pech pegmatite field in Afghanistan have rarely been reported. Here, we investigated apatite crystals originated from this locality, using gemological testing, chemical analysis, and in situ U–Pb dating, with the purpose of identifying their origin, the constraints on the magma source in which the apatite crystals were formed, and the timing of the magmatic–hydrothermal activity. Our findings demonstrate that the purple apatite crystals were impure fluorapatite, characterized by heavy rare-earth element (HREE) enrichment, intermediate Eu anomalies, and non-CHARAC Y/Ho ratios. The results showed that these apatite crystals yielded a lower intercept age of 135.8 ± 6.9 Ma. We proposed that the pegmatitic apatite samples formed in a transitional magmatic–hydrothermal pegmatitic system with moderate fO2 in the Early Cretaceous (~135 Ma). Our study helps to constrain the magmatic–hydrothermal activities of the little-known Dara-e-Pech pegmatite field.

The cleanliness of charging power determines whether electric vehicles can fully utilize their low-carbon properties. This paper, taking into account the impact of temperature on the energy consumption of electric vehicle air conditioning, uses the Monte Carlo algorithm to calculate the typical daily charging load of electric vehicle clusters in different seasons. Secondly, based on the Shapley value carbon responsibility allocation method, a reasonable range of carbon emission responsibilities for different electric vehicle agents is calculated, and a tiered carbon pricing method is proposed accordingly. Then, using carbon emission flow theory, we calculate the carbon emissions generated by the different agents’ charging amounts and corresponding carbon emission costs. Finally, a low-carbon incentive guidance model is constructed with the signal of tiered carbon prices and the goal of minimizing operating costs to re-optimize the charging load distribution of electric vehicles. Case studies showcase that the proposed method is effective in reducing power system carbon emissions and electric vehicle charging costs.

The rhizosphere harbors abundant plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) that are vital for plant health. In this study, we screened growth-promoting bacteria from tomato rhizosphere soil, verified their functions, and constructed the optimal combination of growth-promoting bacteria for promoting tomato growth. Furthermore, the effects of these bacteria on various physiological and biochemical parameters of tomato plants were evaluated. A total of 36 strains of rhizobacteria were isolated from tomato rhizosphere soil and their abilities to produce indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), solubilize phosphate and iron carriers were assessed. The bacterial strains with the highest capacities for IAA production (R62, R317), phosphate solubilization (R41, R219), and siderophore production (R25, R325) were selected to form three bacterial combinations: R62 + R219 + R317 + R325 (T1), R62 + R325 (T5), and R317 + R325 (T8). Fifteen days after inoculation, all three combinations showed a stimulatory effect on seedling growth compared to the un-inoculated control. Inoculation with T1, T5 and T8 increased the seedling vigor index by 173.7%, 204.1%, and 168.7%, respectively. Compared to the un-inoculated control, the T1 combination increased the activities of polyphenol oxidase, peroxidase, and the net photosynthetic rate by 132.7%, 18.7%, 58.5%, and upregulated the relative expression levels of the photosynthetic assimilation-related genes RbcL, RbcS, FBPase and FDA by 22.2-, 6.6-, 1.95-, and 2.0-fold, respectively. Our findings provide a potential for constructing rhizobacterial combinations of different functional groups for improving crop growth.

Managing soil salinity has always been a difficult problem for agriculture. Balancing water and salt while maintaining crop quality and yield is a key issue for agricultural sustainability. The Hetao lrrigation District in China has a complex mix of cultivated and uncultivated land which plays a crucial role in soil salinization processes. To investigate the dynamic properties of soil moisture and salinity, soil ions and groundwater, cultivated and fallow soils in the Hetao lrrigation District were analyzed, side by side, using a combination of field and laboratory tests, with data processed using univariate and multivariate statistical approaches. The results showed that soil moisture increased with increasing soil depth in both cultivated and fallow soils. Salinity showed an increasing trend in 2022 and 2023 from April to September. The soil ions were mainly sulfate in the cultivated soils and chloride in the fallow soils. The characteristic factors affecting salt accumulation in cultivated soils are Na++K+, Cl−, SSC, SO42−, HCO3−, and pH, and the characteristic factors affecting salt accumulation in fallow soils are Na++K+, Cl−, SSC, HCO3−, and pH. Water table depth varied with irrigation and precipitation and was strongly influenced by external environmental factors. Groundwater salinity remained stable throughout the study period. This study provides a theoretical basis for the prevention and control of soil salinization in arid and semiarid areas through the “dry drainage salt” measure.

Sandstones are enriched in deep energy reservoirs and also exist as outcrop rocks, where the pore characteristics of sandstone are influenced by hydration absorption and thermal effects. To study the influence of the initial temperature on the hydration absorption characteristics of outcrop porous sandstone in the Mogao Grottoes, China, an intelligent experimental device for rock hydration was used. The hydration absorption characteristics and temperature effects of sandstone were analyzed by using infrared thermography techniques to monitor the infrared radiation characteristics of the sandstone’s surface during hydration absorption. The experimental results show that the higher the initial temperature of the rock samples, the shorter the time it takes for the sandstone to absorb enough water to reach saturation. The temperature variation of sandstone with different initial temperatures was also determined; the variation in the hydration absorption of sandstone conforms to certain rules, which can be expressed by formulae containing certain parameters. The changing trend of hydration absorption in outcrop porous sandstone shows that the hydration absorption increases rapidly at first, and then the rate of increase slows down until the hydration absorption remains unchanged after saturation. The experimental technique and method provide feasible means and techniques to evaluate the hydration absorption and thermal effects of outcrop porous sandstone, for further detecting the weathering degree of rock grottoes and revealing the damage mechanisms.

With the use of Li-ion batteries, Li-ion batteries will experience unavoidable aging, which can cause battery safety issues, performance degradation, and inaccurate SOC estimation, so it is necessary to predict the state of health (SOH) of Li-ion batteries. Existing methods for Li-ion battery state of health assessment mainly focus on parameters such as constant voltage charging time, constant current charging time, and discharging time, with little consideration of the impact of changes in Li-ion battery temperature on the state of health of Li-ion batteries. In this paper, a new prediction method for Li-ion battery health state based on the surface difference temperature (DT), incremental capacity analysis (ICA), and differential voltage analysis (DVA) is proposed. Five health factors are extracted from each of the three curves as input features to the model, respectively, and the weights, thresholds, and number of hidden layers of the Elman neural network are optimized using the Whale of a Whale Algorithm (WOA), which results in an average decrease of 43%, 49%, and 46% in MAE, RMSE, and MAPE compared to the Elman neural network. For the problem where the three predictions depend on different sources, the features of the three curves are fused using the weighted average method and predicted using the WOA–Elman neural network, whose MAE, RMSE, and MAPE are 0.00054, 0.0007897, and 0.06547% on average. The results show that the proposed method has an overall error of less than 2% in SOH prediction, improves the accuracy and robustness of the overall SOH estimation, and reduces the computational burden to some extent.

As a dietary supplement or functional food additive, vitamin D (VD) deficiency may impact extra-skeletal functions associated with metabolic syndrome (MetS) risk factors. However, the precise effects and mechanisms of VD supplementation on dyslipidemia and insulin resistance in MetS subjects remain controversial. Here, we investigate potential therapeutic targets, pathways and mechanisms of VD against MetS through a comprehensive strategy including meta-analysis, network pharmacology analysis, molecular docking, dynamics simulations, and quantum chemical calculations. Our results reveal that VD supplementation significantly reduces triglyceride levels, fasting glucose, and insulin concentrations in subjects, thereby improving insulin homeostasis to some extent. We theoretically identify 14 core MetS-associated targets. Notably, VD exhibits substantial interactions with three targets (PPARγ, FABP4, and HMGCR) in the PPAR signaling pathway, indicating that VD can modulate this pathway. Van der Waals forces predominantly stabilize the complexes formed between VD and the three targets. Nonetheless, to provide valuable insights for personalized MetS management, further research is necessary to confirm our findings, emphasizing the importance of exploring genetic variability in VD response. In conclusion, our study contributes insights into the mechanisms of VD in preventing and treating MetS through dietary supplementation, promoting the development of VD-based functional foods or nutritious diets.

Dendrobium officinale polysaccharide (DOP) has shown various biological activities. However, the ability of DOP to participate in immune regulation during anti-gastric cancer treatment has remained unclear. In this study, the in vitro results showed that DOP has the potential to polarize THP-1 macrophages from the M2 to the M1 phenotype, downregulate the STAT6/PPAR-r signaling pathway and the protein expression of their down-targeted ARG1 and TGM2, and further decrease the main protein and mRNA expression in the JAGGED1/NOTCH1 signaling pathway. DOP suppressed the migration of gastric cancer cells by decreasing the protein expression of N-cadherin and Vimentin and increasing E-cadherin. In addition, CM-DOP promoted the apoptosis of gastric cancer cells by upregulating Caspase-3 and increasing the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2. In vivo, DOP effectively inhibited the growth of tumors and the expression of Ki-67. In summary, these findings demonstrated that DOP converted the polarization of M2 subtype macrophages into M1 subtypes via the STAT6/PPAR-r and JAGGED1/NOTCH1 signaling pathways in order to reduce apoptosis and prevent migration, thus indicating the potential of DOP as an adjuvant tumor therapy in preclinical and clinical trials.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is one of the most economically important pathogens in the global swine industry over the past three decades. There is no licensed antiviral medication that can effectively control this infection. In the present study, the structure of SP-1 isolated and purified from Sargassum weizhouense was analyzed, and its antioxidant capacity and antiviral effect in MARC-145 cells against PRRSV were investigated. The results showed that SP-1 is a novel polysaccharide which mainly is composed of →4)-β-D-ManpA-(1→, →4)-α-L-GulpA-(1→ and a small amount of →4)-β-D-GalpA-(1→. PRRSV adsorption, replication, and release were all suppressed by SP-1. SP-1 therapy down-regulated mRNA expression of the CD163 receptor while increasing the antioxidant gene expression of Nrf2, TXNIP, and HO-1; increasing the protein expression of NQO1 and HO-1; and drastically reducing the protein expression of p-p65. The findings indicated that SP-1 reduces PRRSV adsorption, replication, and release through blocking the expression of the crucial CD163 receptor during infection. Meanwhile, SP-1 exerts antioxidant effects in PRRSV-infected cells through the activation of the Nrf2-HO1 signaling pathway.

Patient access to mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), a complementary and integrative health approach that is proven to reduce chronic pain, can be increased via community pharmacy-based implementation. However, the general public’s awareness and preferences regarding MBSR as a treatment option for chronic pain, including provider roles (pharmacist vs. non-pharmacist), are unclear. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess the U.S. general public’s knowledge, attitudes, barriers, and programmatic preferences regarding MBSR for chronic pain management, particularly in the community pharmacy setting. A cross-sectional, anonymous online survey was distributed to U.S. adults ≥18 years via the Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk) online survey platform. The survey instrument was informed by Anderson’s framework for health service utilization. Measures were assessed using multiple-choice and 5-point Likert-type scales (1 = strongly disagree, 5 = strongly agree). Primary outcome measures included: (1) knowledge and awareness of MBSR (12-items); (2) confidence in seeking out MBSR for pain (5-items); (3) barriers to receiving MBSR (11-items); (4) beliefs about MBSR in general (12-items); (5) beliefs about community pharmacy-delivered MBSR (15-items); and (6) preferences for MBSR classes/programs (6-items). Outcomes were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and influential factors associated with mean beliefs regarding community pharmacy-delivered MBSR for chronic pain management were assessed via multiple linear regression. Of the 302 survey respondents, the majority were white (79.1%) and female (50.7%), with a mean age of 44.65 years. Respondents’ self-rated MBSR knowledge (mean [SD] scale score: 2.30 [0.68]) and confidence (2.65 [0.87]) were low, although perceived barriers to access were low overall (2.22 [0.53]). Beliefs regarding the use of MBSR for treatment of chronic pain were positive in general (3.67 [0.71]), but more negative regarding community pharmacy-delivered MBSR (2.38 [0.56]). Confidence in seeking out MBSR (β = 0.297, 95% CI = 0.219 to 0.375; p < 0.001) and current opioid use (β = 0.419, 95% CI = 0.147 to 0.690; p = 0.003) were positively associated with beliefs regarding pharmacy-delivered MBSR, while annual household income (β = −0.124, 95% CI = −0.244 to −0.004; p = 0.043) and level of bodily pain (β = −0.149, 95% CI = −0.291 to −0.008; p = 0.039) exerted statistically significant negative influences. Respondents preferred a hybrid MBSR class format including both online and in-person components (29.7%) as well as both group and individual session options (43.7%). In conclusion, further education is necessary to increase the public’s perception of community pharmacies as a resource for complementary and integrative health.

The Hetao Irrigation District is a typical salinized irrigation district in China, and soil salinization restricts agricultural development. To explore the spatial and temporal variability of soil water and salt and the coupling relationship in the Hetao Irrigation District, a field experiment was carried out at the scale of the Yichang Irrigation District branch canal in the downstream of the Hetao Irrigation District. Fifty-three soil sampling points were established to analyze the spatial and temporal variability of soil water content and total salt content and the coupling relationship using geostatistics and the coupling degree model. The results showed that soil water content in the study area belonged to medium variability and weak variability, and soil total salt content belonged to strong variability and medium variability. The theoretical models of soil water content and total salt content semi-variance function in the study area following the Gaussian model, with the block-base ratio less than 25%, with strong spatial autocorrelation, and the spatial correlation gradually increased with the increase of soil depth. The total salt content of the soil in the study area was interpolated with higher accuracy using radial basis functions as compared to ordinary kriging interpolation. In terms of temporal changes in salinity, the average salt accumulation rate of the 0–100 cm soil layer in the study area was 20.17% when salinity increased from May to June; the average desalination rate was 16.37% when salinity decreased from June to August. The main factors affecting soil salinity in cultivated land during the growing period were irrigation, precipitation, and planting crops, and the main factors affecting soil salinity in wasteland were precipitation and topography. The average coupling degree of soil water and salt in wasteland in the study area was lower than that of cultivated land, ranging from 65.15% to 86.59% of that of cultivated land. The level of coordination is marginal coordination for cultivated land and marginal disorder for wasteland. The study provides a theoretical basis for the prevention and control of soil salinization in arid areas.

Increasing demand for higher-speed and large-capacity data communications has driven the development of constellation shaping technology. This paper proposes a hybrid constellation shaping scheme for 64-quadrature amplitude modulation (64QAM) based on hexagonal lattice of a constellation subset. The proposed scheme aims to enhance the nonlinear tolerance of higher-order modulated signals and further improve the constellation shaping gain. The initial quantitative characterization of the constellation is firstly performed based on the hexagonal lattice structure. Then, the objective function of maximizing constellation figure of merits (CFM) is utilized to determine the position distribution of constellation points, resulting in the generation of the geometric shaping-64QAM (GS-64QAM) signal. Finally, according to concentric hexagonal layers, all constellation points are divided into multiple subsets where points within the same subset are assigned the same probability, and the hybrid shaping-64QAM (HS-64QAM) signal is generated. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme, the experimental verification was demonstrated in a 120 Gbit/s multi-span coherent optical communication system. Experimental results indicate that, at the soft-decision forward error correction threshold, HS-64QAM achieves an optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) gain of 1.9 dB and 4.1 dB over uniform GS-64QAM in back-to-back and 375 km transmission scenarios, respectively. Furthermore, HS-64QAM achieves an OSNR gain of 2.7 dB and 7.6 dB over uniform Square-64QAM in back-to-back and 375 km transmission scenarios, respectively.

There is a problem with the insufficient cleaning of the dust filter cartridge by the pulsed-jet cleaning method. This paper examines the improvement in the pulse-jet performance of cone filter cartridges achieved by using an annular-slit nozzle. Off-line pulse jet experiments were conducted to study the influence of initial compressed air pressure, jet distance, and Venturi tube on injection pressure. This paper compared the filtration performance of conventional nozzles versus slit nozzles by conducting an online dust filtration-cleaning experiment and investigating the effect of a Venturi tube. The results demonstrated that the jet produced by the slit nozzle had a bigger surface area in contact with the surrounding air, enhancing the entrainment effect, boosting the overall pulsed-jet pressure, and significantly elevating the pressure in the upper and middle section of the cartridge, particularly in the upper section. In both common nozzle and slit nozzle cases, the pulsed-jet intensity initially increased and then decreased with the jet distance. The corresponding optimal jet distances were 500 mm and 400 mm, respectively. The slit nozzle provoked an increment of 16% and 44% in the pulsed-jet intensity and uniformity (to 619 Pa and 0.19), respectively. And there was an 8% reduction in residual pressure drop, a 6% improvement in fallen dust mass, and a 7% improvement in comprehensive filtration performance. The fallen dust mass produced by a single cleaning of the slit nozzle was 0.64 kg and the comprehensive filtration performance was 0.18. While the addition of a Venturi tube improved the cleaning of the filter cartridge, it also led to a higher filtration pressure drop in the dust collector and reduced comprehensive filtration performance.

In order to save natural resources and protect the natural environment, the relevant performance of waste glass powder as a building material must be enhanced. In general, volcanic ash activity is enhanced through grinding the glass powder particles to a specific degree of fineness, thereby improving the overall strength of cementitious sand. Our current need is to study the effects of replacing standard sand with glass powder of varying particle size and dosage range on its resistance to sulfate erosion as well as the corresponding mechanisms. To further examine the durability properties of glass powder cementitious sand, this study uses glass powder of 100–200 mesh and 200–500 mesh to create cementitious sand samples, replacing 10% and 15% of standard sand with equal volume. After curing for 28 days in a standard curing room, the samples are submerged in tap water and a 5% concentration of sodium sulfate solution for 30, 60, 90, 120, and 150 days. Subsequently, the mass loss rate, flexural strength, and compressive strength are measured to reflect the sulfate erosion resistance of the cementitious sand samples containing glass powder. The findings indicate that the flexural and compressive strengths of cementitious sand with waste glass powder experience a swift decline in strength during the pre-erosion stage and a slow decline or even an increase in strength during the post-erosion stage as erosion age progresses. As the glass powder dosage increases, there is a noticeable decrease in the flexural and compressive strengths, in which the doping of 200–500 mesh doped with 15% of glass powder has the worst effect on the resistance to sulfate erosion. As the particle size increases, both flexural and compressive strengths significantly improve, suggesting that sulfate erosion properties are gradually enhanced. The primary reason for this phenomenon is that when glass powder substitutes fine aggregate, the activity develops more slowly in the initial stage, primarily filling the pores and cracks. However, the activity increases rapidly later, more fully integrating with the cement mortar in sodium hydroxide’s hydration product to create dense hydrated calcium silicate crystals. This enhances the overall strength of the sample, filling the pore structure within the system, and is more conducive to resisting the erosion effect of sulfate ions on the sample.

Plant leaf ashes were obtained via the high temperature calcination of the leaves of various plants, such as sugarcane, couchgrass, bracteata, garlic sprout, and the yellowish leek. Although the photosynthesis systems in plant leaves cannot exist after calcination, minerals in these ashes were found to exhibit photochemical activities. The samples showed solar light photocatalytic oxidation activities sufficient to degrade methylene blue dye. They were also shown to possess intrinsic dehydrogenase-like activities in reducing the colorless electron acceptor 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride to a red formazan precipitate under solar light irradiation. The possible reasons behind these two unreported phenomena were also investigated. These ashes were characterized using a combination of physicochemical techniques. Moreover, our findings exemplify how the soluble and insoluble minerals in plant leaf ashes can be synergistically designed to yield next-generation photocatalysts. It may also lead to advances in artificial photosynthesis and photocatalytic dehydrogenase.

Building height serves as an essential feature of urban morphology that provides valuable insights into human socio-cultural behaviors and their impact on the environment in an urban milieu. However, openly accessible building height information at the individual building level is still lacking and remains sorely limited. Previous studies have shown that the ICESat-2′s ATL03/08 products are of good accuracy for urban building heights retrieval, however, these studies are limited to areas with available data coverage. To this end, we propose a method for extracting urban building height by using ICESat-2 ATL03 photons and high-resolution remote sensing images. We first extracted the information of building roof to footprint offsets and building shadows from high resolution imagery using multitasking CNN frameworks. Using the building height samples calculated from ICESat-2 ATL03 photons, we developed a building height estimation method that combines building offset and shadow length information. We assessed the efficacy of the proposed method in the Wujiaochang area of Shanghai city, China. The results indicated that the proposed method is able to extract building height with a MAE of 4.7 m, and outperforms the traditional shadow-based and offset-based method. We believe that the proposed method is a good candidate for accurately retrieving building heights on a city-wide scale.

Frailty is a major health issue associated with aging. Diet affects frailty status; however, studies on the associations between the low-carbohydrate diet (LCD) score, low-fat diet (LFD) score and frailty in older Chinese adults are scarce. This study aimed to examine the associations between the LCD score, LFD score and risk of frailty in older Chinese adults. We analyzed data from 6414 participants aged ≥ 60 years from the China Northwest Natural Population Cohort: Ningxia Project. Frailty was measured using the frailty index (FI), calculated from 28 items comprising diseases, behavioral disorders and blood biochemistry and classified as robust, pre-frail and frail. LCD and LFD scores were calculated using a validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Multiple logistic regression models were used to evaluate associations between LCD, LFD scores and frail or pre-frail status after adjusting for confounders. Participants’ mean age was 66.60 ± 4.15 years, and 47.8% were male. After adjusting for age, sex, educational level, drinking, smoking, BMI, physical activity and total energy, compared to the lowest quartile (Q1: reference), the odds ratios (ORs) for pre-frail and frail status in the highest quartile (Q4) of LCD score were 0.73 (95% confidence intervals: 0.61–0.88; p for trend = 0.017) and 0.73 (95%CI: 0.55–0.95; p for trend = 0.035), respectively. No significant associations were observed between LFD score and either pre-frail or frail status. Our data support that lower-carbohydrate diets were associated with lower pre-frail or frail status, particularly in females, while diets lower in fat were not significantly associated with the risk of either pre-frail or frail status in older Chinese adults. Further intervention studies are needed to confirm these results.

This article addresses the issue of drive–response synchronization in fractional-order multi-link memristive neural networks (FMMNN) with multiple delays, under hybrid impulsive feedback control. To address the impact of multiple delays on system synchronization, an extended fractional-order delayed comparison principle incorporating impulses is established. By leveraging Laplace transform, Mittag–Leffler functions, the generalized comparison principle, and hybrid impulsive feedback control schemes, several new sufficient conditions are derived to ensure synchronization in the addressed FMMNN. Unlike existing studies on fractional-order single-link memristor-based systems, our response network is a multi-link model that considers impulsive effects. Notably, the impulsive gains αi are not limited to a small interval, thus expanding the application range of our approach (αi∈(−2,0)∪(−∞,−2)∪(0,+∞)). This feature allows one to choose impulsive gains and corresponding impulsive intervals that are appropriate for the system environment and control requirements. The theoretical results obtained in this study contribute to expanding the relevant theoretical achievements of fractional-order neural networks incorporating memristive characteristics.

Metal-organic coordination compounds (MCCs) have received a lot of attention as anodes for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to their abundant structural configuration, tunable morphology, high surface area, and low cost, but the lithium storage mechanism of MCCs is still a mystery. Herein, we synthesized a kind of nickel-based coordination compound (marked as Ni-PP-x, x = 1, 2, or 3) with tunable morphologies and different solvent ratios via a microwave irradiation solvothermal method and then applied them as anodes for LIBs. Among them, the Ni-PP-2 electrode, with a hollow and urchin-like structure, showed the longest lifespan and maintained a high capacity of 713 mAh g−1 at 2.0 A g−1 after 800 cycles. Measured by ex situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and ex situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), the Ni-PP-2 electrode was confirmed by a redox reaction mechanism of Li+ cations with a benzene ring and O-Ni2+/O-Ni0 coordination bonds, and the cyclic voltammetry curves have exhibited a capacitive dominated lithium storage behavior. This work provides a new type of Ni-based coordination compound and an in-depth understanding of their lithium storage mechanism, paving the way for the application of MCC compounds in the future.

Bacillus velezensis HN-Q-8, isolated in our previous study, has an antagonistic effect on Alternaria solani. After being pretreated with a fermentation liquid with HN-Q-8 bacterial cell suspensions, the potato leaves inoculated with A. solani displayed smaller lesion areas and less yellowing than the controls. Interestingly, the activity levels of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, and catalase in potato seedlings were enhanced by the addition of the fermentation liquid with bacterial cells. Additionally, the overexpression of key genes related to induced resistance in the Jasmonate/Ethylene pathway was activated by the addition of the fermentation liquid, suggesting that the HN-Q-8 strain induced resistance to potato early blight. In addition, our laboratory and field experiments showed that the HN-Q-8 strain can promote potato seedling growth and significantly increase tuber yield. The root activity and chlorophyll content of potato seedlings were significantly increased along with the levels of indole acetic acid, gibberellic acid 3, and abscisic acid upon addition of the HN-Q-8 strain. The fermentation liquid with bacterial cells was more efficient in inducing disease resistance and promoting growth than bacterial cell suspensions alone or the fermentation liquid without bacterial cells. Thus, the B. velezensis HN-Q-8 strain is an effective bacterial biocontrol agent, augmenting the options available for potato cultivation.

The purpose of this study was to explore existing practice models and opportunities surrounding community pharmacist-delivered opioid counseling and naloxone (OCN) services in the U.S., with the goal of enhancing organizational readiness and improving patient access. A scoping literature review was conducted. English-language articles published in peer-reviewed journals from January 2012–July 2022 were sought via PubMed, CINAHL, IPA, and Google Scholar using permutations of terms such as “pharmacist/pharmacy”, “opioid/opiate”, “naloxone”, “counseling”, and “implement/implementation”. Original articles reporting the resources/inputs (personnel; pharmacist full-time equivalents; facilities and expenses; in-house versus outsourced personnel), implementation processes (legal source of pharmacist authority; patient identification strategies; intervention procedures; workflow strategies; business operations), and programmatic outcomes (uptake and delivery; interventions made; economic impact; patient or provider satisfaction) of pharmacist-delivered OCN services in community (retail) settings were retained. Twelve articles describing ten unique studies were included. The studies primarily used quasi-experimental designs and were published from 2017 to 2021. The articles described seven broad program elements/themes: interprofessional collaboration (n = 2); patient education format including one-on-one patient education (n = 12) and group education sessions (n = 1); non-pharmacist provider education (n = 2); pharmacy staff education (n = 8); opioid misuse screening tools (n = 7); naloxone recommendation/dispensing (n = 12); and opioid therapy and pain management (n = 1). Pharmacists screened/counseled 11–2716 patients and provided 11–430 doses of naloxone. Limited implementation costs, patient/provider satisfaction, or economic impact measures were reported. This review may serve as a guide for community pharmacists in implementing OCN services in their own practices. Future studies should clarify OCN program implementation costs, patient/provider satisfaction, and the economic impact.

Ammonia stress and nitrite stress can induce immune depression and oxidative stress in Litopenaeus vannami (L. vannamei). Earlier reports showed that L. vannamei immunity, resistance to ammonia stress, and resistance to nitrite stress improved after Tian–Dong–Tang–Gan Powder (TDTGP) treatment, but the mechanism is not clear. In this study, three thousand L. vannamei were fed different doses of TDTGP for 35 days and then subjected to ammonia and nitrite stress treatments for 72 h. Transcriptome and 16-Seq ribosomal RNA gene sequencing (16S rRNA-seq) were used to analyze hepatopancreas gene expression and changes in gut microbiota abundance in each group. The results showed that after TDTGP treatment, hepatopancreas mRNA expression levels of immunity- and antioxidant-related genes were increased, the abundance of Vibrionaceae in the gut microbiota was decreased, and the abundance of Rhodobacteraceae and Flavobacteriaceae was increased. In addition, after TDTGP treatment, the effects of ammonia and nitrite stress on the mRNA expression of Pu, cat-4, PPAF2, HO, Hsp90b1, etc. were reduced and the disruption of the gut microbiota was alleviated. In short, TDTGP can regulate the immunity and antioxidant of L. vannamei by increasing the expression levels of immunity- and antioxidant-related genes and regulating the abundance of Rhodobacteraceae and Flavobacteriaceae in the gut microbiota.

Our previous studies indicated that endophyte M7SB41 (Seimatosporium sp.) can significantly enhance host plants powdery mildew (PM) resistance. To recover the mechanisms, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were compared between E+ (endophte-inoculated) and E− (endophyte-free) plants by transcriptomics. A total of 4094, 1200 and 2319 DEGs between E+ and E− were identified at 0, 24, and 72 h after plants had been infected with PM pathogen Golovinomyces cichoracearum, respectively. Gene expression pattern analysis displayed a considerable difference and temporality in response to PM stress between the two groups. Transcriptional profiling analysis revealed that M7SB41 induced plant resistance to PM through Ca2+ signaling, salicylic acid (SA) signaling, and the phenylpropanoid biosynthesis pathway. In particular, we investigated the role and the timing of the SA and jasmonic acid (JA)-regulated defensive pathways. Both transcriptomes and pot experiments showed that SA-signaling may play a prominent role in PM resistance conferred by M7SB41. Additionally, the colonization of M7SB41 could effectively increase the activities and the expression of defense-related enzymes under PM pathogen stress. Meanwhile, our study revealed reliable candidate genes from TGA (TGACG motif-binding factor), WRKY, and pathogenesis-related genes related to M7SB41-mediate resistance. These findings offer a novel insight into the mechanisms of endophytes in activating plant defense responses.

Zirconium alloys, which are widely used as cladding materials in nuclear reactors, are prone to react with oxygen (O). Furthermore, the ω-Zr in zirconium alloys can significantly increase the strength and hardness of these alloys, but there is a lack of reports on the behavior of oxygen in ω-Zr in the current literature. To investigate their interactions, we have studied the behavior of O in ω-Zr using the first-principles approach. In this work, we examined the effects of vacancy and alloying elements (Nb, Sn) on the behavior of O in ω-Zr. The results show that O with a formation energy of −5.96 eV preferentially occupies an octahedral interstitial position in ω-Zr. A vacancy reduces the formation energy of O in a tetrahedral interstitial position in ω-Zr. Nb and Sn decrease the formation energy of O in the octahedral interstitial position by 6.16 eV and 5.08 eV. Vacancy effectively reduces the diffusion barrier of O around it, which facilitates the diffusion of O in ω-Zr. Nb and Sn preferentially occupy the 1b and 2d substitution sites in ω-Zr, respectively. Nb makes the diffusion barrier of O in ω-Zr lower and promotes the diffusion of O in ω-Zr. Moreover, Sn makes the diffusion of O around Sn difficult. It was further found that O is less prone to form clusters in ω-Zr and tends to independently occupy interstitial positions in ω-Zr. In particular, a single vacancy would make the binding energy between O atoms to be further reduced.

This paper presents a solution to the consensus problem for a particular category of uncertain switched multi-agent systems (MASs). In these systems, the communication topologies between agents and the system dynamics are governed by a time-homogeneous Markovian chain in a stochastic manner. To address this issue, we propose a novel neuroadaptive distributed dynamic event-triggered control (DETC) strategy. By leveraging stochastic Lyapunov theory and matrix inequality methodology, we establish sufficient conditions for practical ultimate mean square consensus (UMSBC) of MASs using a combination of neural networks (NNs) adaptive control strategy and DETC method. Our approach employs a distributed adaptive NNs DETC mechanism in MASs with unknown nonlinear dynamics and upgrades it at the moment of event sampling in an aperiodic manner, resulting in significant savings in computation and resources. We also exclude the Zeno phenomenon. Finally, we provide numerical examples to demonstrate the feasibility of our proposed approach, which outperforms existing approaches.
