The study investigates the nonlinear contagion, tail dependence, and Granger causality relations with TAR-TR-GARCH–copula causality methods for daily Bitcoin, Fintech, energy consumption, and CO2 emissions in addition to examining these series for entropy, long-range dependence, fractionality, complexity, chaos, and nonlinearity with a dataset spanning from 25 June 2012 to 22 June 2024. Empirical results from Shannon, Rényi, and Tsallis entropy measures; Kolmogorov–Sinai complexity; Hurst–Mandelbrot and Lo’s R/S tests; and Phillips’ and Geweke and Porter-Hudak’s fractionality tests confirm the presence of entropy, complexity, fractionality, and long-range dependence. Further, the largest Lyapunov exponents and Hurst exponents confirm chaos across all series. The BDS test confirms nonlinearity, and ARCH-type heteroskedasticity test results support the basis for the use of novel TAR-TR-GARCH–copula causality. The model estimation results indicate moderate to strong levels of positive and asymmetric tail dependence and contagion under distinct regimes. The novel method captures nonlinear causality dynamics from Bitcoin and Fintech to energy consumption and CO2 emissions as well as causality from energy consumption to CO2 emissions and bidirectional feedback between Bitcoin and Fintech. These findings underscore the need to take the chaotic and complex dynamics seriously in policy and decision formulation and the necessity of eco-friendly technologies for Bitcoin and Fintech.

The handling of missing attribute values remains a challenging and problematic issue in data analysis. Imputation techniques are key procedures used to deal with missing attribute values. However, although these methods are widely used, they cause data bias. Rough set theory, a unique mathematical tool for decision making under uncertainty, overcomes this problem by properly adjusting the relationships. Rough sets are often preferred in both classification and sorting problems. The aim of sorting problems is to sort the objects in the decision table (DT) from best to worst and/or to select the best one. For this purpose, it is necessary to obtain a pairwise comparison table (PCT) from the DT. However, in the presence of missing values, the transformation from DT to PCT is not feasible because there are no ranking methods in the literature for sorting problems based on rough sets. To address this limitation, this paper presents a way to transform from DT to PCT and introduces a generalization of the relation belonging to the “do not care” type of missing values in the dominance-based rough set approach (DRSA) to the decision support tool jRank. We also adapted the DomLem algorithm to enable it to work in PCT with missing values. We applied our method step by step to a decision table with 11 objects and investigated the effect of missing values. The experimental results showed that our proposed approach captures the semantics of ‘do not care’ type missing values.

This paper introduces hybrid models designed to analyze daily and weekly bitcoin return spanning the periods from 18 July 2010 to 28 December 2023 for daily data, and from 18 July 2010 to 24 December 2023 for weekly data. Firstly, the fractal and chaotic structure of the selected variables was explored. Asymmetric Cantor set, Boundary of the Dragon curve, Julia set z2 −1, Boundary of the Lévy C curve, von Koch curve, and Brownian function (Wiener process) tests were applied. The R/S and Mandelbrot–Wallis tests confirmed long-term dependence and fractionality. The largest Lyapunov test, the Rosenstein, Collins and DeLuca, and Kantz methods of Lyapunov exponents, and the HCT and Shannon entropy tests tracked by the Kolmogorov–Sinai (KS) complexity test determined the evidence of chaos, entropy, and complexity. The BDS test of independence test approved nonlinearity, and the TeraesvirtaNW and WhiteNW tests, the Tsay test for nonlinearity, the LR test for threshold nonlinearity, and White’s test and Engle test confirmed nonlinearity and heteroskedasticity, in addition to fractionality and chaos. In the second stage, the standard ARFIMA method was applied, and its results were compared to the LieNLS and LieOLS methods. The results showed that, under conditions of chaos, entropy, and complexity, the ARFIMA method did not yield successful results. Both baseline models, LieNLS and LieOLS, are enhanced by integrating them with deep learning methods. The models, LieLSTMOLS and LieLSTMNLS, leverage manifold-based approaches, opting for matrix representations over traditional differential operator representations of Lie algebras were employed. The parameters and coefficients obtained from LieNLS and LieOLS, and the LieLSTMOLS and LieLSTMNLS methods were compared. And the forecasting capabilities of these hybrid models, particularly LieLSTMOLS and LieLSTMNLS, were compared with those of the main models. The in-sample and out-of-sample analyses demonstrated that the LieLSTMOLS and LieLSTMNLS methods outperform the others in terms of MAE and RMSE, thereby offering a more reliable means of assessing the selected data. Our study underscores the importance of employing the LieLSTM method for analyzing the dynamics of bitcoin. Our findings have significant implications for investors, traders, and policymakers.

This paper aims to test the structure of interest rates during the period from 1 September 1981 to 28 December 2020 by using Lie algebras and groups. The selected period experienced substantial events impacting interest rates, such as the economic crisis, the military intervention of the USA in Iraq, and the COVID-19 pandemic, in which economies were in lockdown. These conditions caused the interest rate to have a nonlinear structure, chaotic behavior, and outliers. Under these conditions, an alternative method is proposed to test the random and nonlinear structure of interest rates to be evolved by a stochastic differential equation captured on a curved state space based on Lie algebras and group. Then, parameter estimates of this equation were obtained by OLS, NLS, and GMM estimators (hereafter, LieNLS, LieOLS, and LieGMM, respectively). Therefore, the interest rates that possess nonlinear structures and/or chaotic behaviors or outliers were tested with LieNLS, LieOLS, and LieGMM. We compared our LieNLS, LieOLS, and LieGMM results with the traditional OLS, NLS, and GMM methods, and the results favor the improvement achieved by the proposed LieNLS, LieOLS, and LieGMM in terms of the RMSE and MAE in the out-of-sample forecasts. Lastly, the Lie algebras with NLS estimators exhibited the lowest RMSE and MAE followed by the Lie algebras with GMM, and the Lie algebras with OLS, respectively.

In this paper, we propose hybrid models for modelling the daily oil price during the period from 2 January 1986 to 5 April 2021. The models on S2 manifolds that we consider, including the reference ones, employ matrix representations rather than differential operator representations of Lie algebras. Firstly, the performance of LieNLS model is examined in comparison to the Lie-OLS model. Then, both of these reference models are improved by integrating them with a recurrent neural network model used in deep learning. Thirdly, the forecasting performance of these two proposed hybrid models on the S2 manifold, namely Lie-LSTMOLS and Lie-LSTMNLS, are compared with those of the reference LieOLS and LieNLS models. The in-sample and out-of-sample results show that our proposed methods can achieve improved performance over LieOLS and LieNLS models in terms of RMSE and MAE metrics and hence can be more reliably used to assess volatility of time-series data.

The real forms of complex groups (or algebras) are important in physics and mathematics. The Lie group SL2,C is one of these important groups. There are real forms of the classical Lie group SL2,C and the quantum group SL2,C in the literature. Inspired by this, in our study, we obtain the real forms of the fractional supergroups shown with A3NSL2,C, for the non-trivial N = 1 and N = 2 cases, that is, the real forms of the fractional supergroups A31SL2,C and A32SL2,C.

Under the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic and the concurrent oil conflict between Russia and Saudi Arabia, oil prices have exhibited unusual and sudden changes. For this reason, the volatilities of the West Texas Intermediate (WTI), Brent and Dubai crude daily oil price data between 29 May 2006 and 31 March 2020 are analysed. Firstly, the presence of chaotic and nonlinear behaviour in the oil prices during the pandemic and the concurrent conflict is investigated by using the Shanon Entropy and Lyapunov exponent tests. The tests show that the oil prices exhibit chaotic behavior. Additionally, the current paper proposes a new hybrid modelling technique derived from the LSTARGARCH (Logistic Smooth Transition Autoregressive Generalised Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity) model and LSTM (long-short term memory) method to analyse the volatility of oil prices. In the proposed LSTARGARCHLSTM method, GARCH modelling is applied to the crude oil prices in two regimes, where regime transitions are governed with an LSTAR-type smooth transition in both the conditional mean and the conditional variance. Separating the data into two regimes allows the efficient LSTM forecaster to adapt to and exploit the different statistical characteristics and ARCH and GARCH effects in each of the two regimes and yield better prediction performance over the case of its application to all the data. A comparison of our proposed method with the GARCH and LSTARGARCH methods for crude oil price data reveals that our proposed method achieves improved forecasting performance over the others in terms of RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) and MAE (Mean Absolute Error) in the face of the chaotic structure of oil prices.
