With the increasing environmental impacts of human activities, the problem of polygenic multipollutants in groundwater has attracted the attention of researchers. Identifying the hydrobiogeochemical characteristics of the surface sewage that replenishes groundwater is crucial to addressing this problem. The input of polygenic multipollutants into groundwater leads to not only the mechanical superposition of pollutants but also the formation of secondary pollutant types. The evolution of polygenic multipollutants is influenced by aquifer characteristics, carbon sources, microbial abundance, etc. Therefore, this study took a sewage leakage point in Northwest China as the research object, carried out a controlled laboratory experiment on the impact of sewage discharge on groundwater, and, combined with long-term field monitoring results, determined the main hydrobiogeochemical processes of polygenic multipollutants and their secondary pollutants. The results showed that the redox environment and the gradient change in pH were identified as the most critical controlling factors. In oxidative groundwater during the early stage of vertical infiltration, sewage carries a substantial amount of NH4+, which is oxidized to form the secondary pollutant NO3−. As O2 is consumed, the reduction intensifies, and secondary pollutants NO3−, Mn (IV), and Fe(III) minerals are successively reduced. Compared with the natural conditions of rainwater vertical infiltration, the reaction rates and intensities of various reactions significantly increase during sewage vertical infiltration. However, there is a notable difference in the groundwater pH between sewage and rainwater vertical infiltration. In O2 and secondary pollutant NO3− reduction, a large amount of CO2 is rapidly generated. Excessive CO2 dissolves to produce a substantial amount of H+, promoting the acidic dissolution of Mn (II) minerals and generation of Mn2+. Sewage provides a higher carbon load, enhancing Mn (II) acidic dissolution and stimulating the activity of dissimilatory nitrate reduction to ammonium, which exhibits a higher contribution to NO3− reduction. This results in a portion of NO3− converted from NH4+ being reduced back to NH4+ and retained in the groundwater, reducing the denitrification’s capacity to remove secondary NO3−. This has important implications for pollution management and groundwater remediation, particularly monitored natural attenuation.

In recent years, the semantic segmentation model has been widely applied in fields such as the extraction of crops due to its advantages such as strong discrimination ability, high accuracy, etc. Currently, there is no standard set of ground true label data for major crops in China, and the visual interpretation process is usually time-consuming and laborious. The sample size also makes it difficult to support the model to learn enough ground features, resulting in poor generalisation ability of the model, which in turn makes the model difficult to apply in fine extraction tasks of large-area crops. In this study, a method to establish a pseudo-label sample set based on the random forest algorithm to train a semantic segmentation model (U-Net) was proposed to perform winter wheat extraction. With the help of the GEE platform, Winter Wheat Canopy Index (WCI) indicators were employed in this method to initially extract winter wheat, and training samples (i.e., pseudo labels) were built for the semantic segmentation model through the iterative process of “generating random sample points—random forest model training—winter wheat extraction”; on this basis, the U-net model was trained with multi-time series remote sensing images; finally, the U-Net model was employed to obtain the spatial distribution map of winter wheat in Henan Province in 2022. The results illustrated that: (1) Pseudo-label data were constructed using the random forest model in typical regions, achieving an overall accuracy of 97.53% under validation with manual samples, proving that its accuracy meets the requirements for U-Net model training. (2) Utilizing the U-Net model, U-Net++ model, and random forest model constructed based on pseudo-label data for 2022, winter wheat mapping was conducted in Henan Province. The extraction accuracy of the three models is in the order of U-Net model > U-Net++ model > random forest model. (3) Using the U-Net model to predict the winter wheat planting areas in Henan Province in 2019, although the extraction accuracy decreased compared to 2022, it still exceeded that of the random forest model. Additionally, the U-Net++ model did not achieve higher classification accuracy. (4) Experimental results demonstrate that deep learning models constructed based on pseudo-labels exhibit higher classification accuracy. Compared to traditional machine learning models like random forest, they have higher spatiotemporal adaptability and robustness, further validating the scientific and practical feasibility of pseudo-labels and their generation strategies, which are expected to provide a feasible technical pathway for intelligent extraction of winter wheat spatial distribution information in the future.

Background: As a common soft tissue sarcoma, liposarcoma (LPS) is a heterogeneous malignant tumor derived from adipose tissue. Due to the high risk of metastasis and recurrence, the prognosis of LPS remains unfavorable. To improve clinical treatment, a robust risk prediction model is essential to evaluate the prognosis of LPS patients. Methods: By comprehensive analysis of data derived from GEO datasets, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were obtained. Univariate and Lasso Cox regressions were subsequently employed to reveal distant recurrence-free survival (DRFS)-associated DEGs and develop a prognostic gene signature, which was assessed by Kaplan–Meier survival and ROC curve. GSEA and immune infiltration analyses were conducted to illuminate molecular mechanisms and immune correlations of this model in LPS progression. Furthermore, a correlation analysis was involved to decipher the therapeutic significance of this model for LPS. Results: A six-gene signature was developed to predict DRFS of LPS patients and showed higher precision performance in more aggressive LPS subtypes. Then, a nomogram was further established for clinical application based on this risk model. Via GSEA, the high-risk group was significantly enriched in cell cycle-related pathways. In the LPS microenvironment, neutrophils, memory B cells and resting mast cells exhibited significant differences in cell abundance between high-risk and low-risk patients. Moreover, this model was significantly correlated with therapeutic targets. Conclusion: A prognostic six-gene signature was developed and significantly associated with cell cycle pathways and therapeutic target genes, which could provide new insights into risk assessment of LPS progression and therapeutic strategies for LPS patients to improve their prognosis.

A microwave photonic frequency multiplier with low phase noise based on an optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. In this scheme, a dual-parallel Mach–Zehnder modulator (DPMZM) is employed to generate the third-harmonic frequency of the input radio frequency (RF) signal, while the oscillation frequency of the OEO is also three times the RF signal frequency. By adjusting the bias voltages of different arms in the DPMZM, a triple-frequency signal with a high side-mode suppression ratio of 64.8 dB can be obtained. The experimental results indicate that the output of the frequency-multiplier has a better single-sideband phase noise value, for instance, −126 dBc/Hz@10 kHz at 20.019 GHz. It has improvements of 34 dB and 43.5 dB compared with the input RF signal and the simulated electrical frequency tripler module, respectively.

PET/PA6, hollow, segmented-pie, microfiber nonwovens (PET/PA6 HSMNs) play an important role in a microfiber, synthetic leather base. Most of the current PET/PA6 HSMNs generally lack in hygiene performance. Moreover, there is an urgent need for the asymmetric wettability of PET/PA6 HSMNs to ensure the comfort of clothing. In this work, a novel, asymmetrically wettable, PET/PA6 HSMN with a gradient structure is proposed, which can regulate liquid adsorption and directional transport. An MOF-303 was successfully synthesized and loaded onto the PET/PA6 HSMN, which had been pre-treated with gradient hydrolysis under sulfuric acid. The droplet quickly permeated the modified PET/PA6 HSMN, and the droplet disappearance time decreased to 62.40 ms. The liquid strikethrough time of the modified PET/PA6 HSMN reached 5.16 s. The maximum adsorption capacity of the modified PET/PA6 HSMN was 68.161 mg/g, which was improved by 122.83%. In addition, the air permeability of the pre-treated PET/PA6 HSMN increased from 308.70 mm/s to 469.97 mm/s, with the sulfuric acid concentrations increasing from 0% to 20%, and the air permeability of the modified PET/PA6 HSMN decreased gradually from 247.37 mm/s to 161.50 mm/s. Furthermore, the tensile strength of the modified PET/PA6 HSMN treated with sulfuric acid and MOF-303 was also obviously enhanced compared with the PET/PA6 HSMN treated with pure sulfuric acid. This PET/PA6 HSMN, with asymmetric wettability, owing to its high hygiene performance and water transport capabilities, is promising and able to extend the application of a microfiber synthetic leather base for clothing.

Background: Though children infected by SARS-CoV-2 generally experience milder symptoms compared to adults, severe cases can occur. Additionally, children can transmit the virus to others. Therefore, the availability of safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines for children and adolescents is crucial. Method: A single-center, randomized, double-blind clinical trial was conducted in Funing County, Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, China. Healthy children and adolescents were divided into two subgroups (6–12 years old or 13–17 years old) and randomly assigned to one of three groups to receive one dose of Ad5-nCoV (3 × 1010 vp/dose). Another group, aged 18–59, received one dose of Ad5-nCoV (5 × 1010 vp/dose) as the control group. At 28, 90, 180, and 360 days post-vaccination, we measured the geometric mean titer (GMT)/concentration (GMC) of neutralizing and binding antibodies against the prototype SARS-CoV-2 strain, as well as serum antibody levels against the BA.4/5 variant. We also evaluated the incidence of adverse events within 28 days post-vaccination. Results: A total of 2413 individuals were screened from 3 June 2021 to 25 July 2021, of whom 2021 eligible participants were enrolled, including 1009 aged 6~17 years in the children and adolescent group and 1012 aged 18–59 years in the adults group. The GMT of anti-wild SARS-CoV-2 neutralizing antibodies was 18.6 (95% CI, 16.6–20.9) in children and adolescents and 13.2 (95% CI, 11.6–15.0) in adults on day 28. The incidence of solicited adverse reactions between the adult group (49.4% [124/251]) and the children and adolescent group (46.3% [156/337]) was not statistically significant. The neutralizing antibody levels decreased by a factor of 3.29 from day 28 to day 360 post-vaccination. Conclusions: A single dose of Ad5-nCoV at 3 × 1010 virus particles/dose is safe in children and adolescents, and it elicited significant immune response, which was not only non-inferior but also superior to that in adults aged 18–59 years.

To investigate the potential of modified epoxy resin for repairing and strengthening historical wooden structures, this study utilized polyurethane and silicone-modified epoxy resin as the base, alongside a polyamine curing agent. The resin mixture was cured at ambient temperature, resulting in the creation of ten unique epoxy resin systems. Investigation into the chemical structure and alterations to the glass transition temperature were conducted. The study conducted tests and characterization of viscosity, curing rate, mechanical properties, stress failure mode, hygrothermal aging resistance, and bonding properties. The results reveal that the curing degree of the two modified epoxy resins is high after being cured at room temperature, and the chemical structure and curing rate show insignificant changes. The range of the glass transition temperature for the modified epoxy resin is between 61.31 °C and 70.51 °C. The incorporation of polyurethane and silicone molecular chains into the epoxy resin cross-linking curing system enhances the toughness of the epoxy resin. The modified resin achieves a maximum elongation at break that is 5.18 times greater than that of the unmodified resin, along with a maximum tensile strength and a compressive strength that are 7.94 and 1.74 times, respectively, higher than those in the Chinese technical specifications for the maintenance and reinforcement of ancient wooden structures. The increase in toughness changes the failure mode of the cured epoxy resin. The modified epoxy resin exhibits great bonding ability to aged wood, with a shear strength of up to 9.6 MPa along the grain. As a result, the modified epoxy resin meets the requirements for the reinforcement and repair of the timber members of ancient buildings.

Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are regarded as the most important public facility after fire extinguishers due to their importance to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) victims. Previous studies focused on the location optimization of the AED, with little attention to inequity among different social groups. To comprehensively investigate the spatial heterogeneity of the AED inequity, we first collected AED data from a WeChat applet. Then, we used the geographically weighted regression (GWR) model to quantify the inequity level and identify the socio-economic status group that faced the worst inequity in each neighborhood. Results showed that immigrants of all ages suffer a more severe AED inequity than residents after controlling population and road density. Immigrants face more severe inequity in downtown, while residents face more severe inequity in the peripheral and outer suburbs. AED inequity among youngsters tends to be concentrated in the center of each district, while inequity among the elderly tends to be distributed at the edge of each district. This study provides a new perspective for investigating the inequity in public facilities, puts forward scientific suggestions for future AED allocation planning, and emphasizes the importance of the equitable access to AED.

This study investigates coordinated behaviors and the underlying collective intelligence in biological groups, particularly those led by informed leaders. By establishing new convergence condition based on experiments involving real biological groups, this research introduces the concept of a volitional term and heterogeneous networks, constructing a coupled-force Cucker–Smale model with informed leaders. Incorporating informed leaders into the leader-follower group model enables a more accurate representation of biological group behaviors. The paper then extracts the Flock Leadership Hierarchy Network (FLH), a model reflecting real biological interactions. Employing time slicing and rolling time windows, the study methodically analyzes group behavior stages, using volatility and convergence time as metrics to examine the relationship between group consistency and interactions. Comparative experiments show the FLH network’s superior performance. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test demonstrates that the FLH network conforms to a power-law distribution, a prevalent law in nature. This result further illuminates the crucial role that power-law distribution plays in the evolutionary processes of biological communities. This study offers new perspectives on the evolution of biological groups, contributing to our understanding of the behaviors of both natural and artificial systems, such as animal migration and autonomous drone operations.

In this paper, we present a novel self-supervised framework for Sentiment Cue Extraction (SCE) aimed at enhancing the interpretability of text sentiment analysis models. Our approach leverages self-supervised learning to identify and highlight key textual elements that significantly influence sentiment classification decisions. Central to our framework is the development of an innovative Mask Sequence Interpretation Score (MSIS), a bespoke metric designed to assess the relevance and coherence of identified sentiment cues within binary text classification tasks. By employing Monte Carlo Sampling techniques optimized for computational efficiency, our framework demonstrates exceptional effectiveness in processing large-scale text data across diverse datasets, including English and Chinese, thus proving its versatility and scalability. The effectiveness of our approach is validated through extensive experiments on several benchmark datasets, including SST-2, IMDb, Yelp, and ChnSentiCorp. The results indicate a substantial improvement in the interpretability of the sentiment analysis models without compromising their predictive accuracy. Furthermore, our method stands out for its global interpretability, offering an efficient solution for analyzing new data compared to traditional techniques focused on local explanations.

Ditylenchus destructor and D. dipsaci are important nematodes that have a significant economic impact on agronomic and horticultural plants worldwide. Microscopic observation alone may not distinguish between D. destructor and D. dipsaci. Accurate and rapid identification of these two species is essential for effective pest management. In the present study, a species-specific PCR assay was developed to detect and differentiate D. destructor and D. dipsaci based on the rDNA-ITS sequences. The primers developed in this study can specifically amplify fragments of DNA from D. destructor and D. dipsaci in the target population, without amplifying DNA from other non-target nematodes within the genus Ditylenchus. The sensitivity test revealed that this procedure has the ability to detect single second-stage juveniles (J2) of D. dipsaci at a dilution of 1/128 and D. destructor at a dilution of 1/64. Additionally, it can detect genomic DNA (gDNA) at concentrations of 10 pg/µL for D. dipsaci and 1 ng/µL for D. destructor. These results align with previously reported results obtained through RPA and LAMP methods. Furthermore, the primers developed in this study for D. destructor not only were able to amplify six different haplotypes of nematodes but also successfully detected it in infested plant roots and soil samples, thereby shortening the time and reducing the number of steps required for detection. Thus, this assay, which does not necessitate taxonomic or morphological expertise, significantly enhances the diagnosis of D. destructor and D. dipsaci in infested fields. This advancement aids in the early control of these nematodes.

Aqueous supercapacitors have occupied a significant position among various types of stationary energy storage equipment, while their widespread application is hindered by the relatively low energy density. Herein, N/F co-doped carbon materials activated by manganese clusters (NCM) are constructed by the straightforward experimental routine. Benefiting from the elevated conductivity structure at the microscopic level, the optimized NCM-0.5 electrodes exhibited a remarkable specific capacitance of 653 F g−1 at 0.4 A g−1 and exceptional cycling stability (97.39% capacity retention even after 40,000 cycles at the scanning rate of 100 mV s−1) in a neutral 5 M LiCl electrolyte. Moreover, we assembled an asymmetric device pairing with a VOx anode (NCM-0.5//VOx), which delivered a durable life span of 95% capacity retention over 30,000 cycles and an impressive energy density of 77.9 Wh kg−1. This study provides inspiration for transition metal element doping engineering in high-energy storage equipment.

Under the development of intelligent network technology, drivers can obtain the surrounding traffic situation in real time, which is conducive to improving the stability of traffic flow. Therefore, this paper proposes a new curve-car-following model considering multi-vehicle information of adjacent lanes in connected environment, and conducts linear and nonlinear stability analyses of the model to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model and its ability to improve the stability of traffic system; in addition, numerical simulation experiments of traffic flow convoys are designed to analyze the effects of different parameters in the proposed model on the stability of the traffic flow and test the proposed model’s ability to maintain the following behavior in a convoy. Furthermore, numerical simulation experiments are designed to analyze the effects of different parameters in the proposed model on the stability of traffic flow, and to test the ability of the proposed model to maintain the following behavior in the convoy. The model can provide theoretical guidance to alleviate traffic congestion and improve safety, and extend the application of the following model in curved multi-lane road scenarios.

Several billion microorganisms reside in the gastrointestinal lumen, including viruses, bacteria, fungi, and yeast. Among them, probiotics were primarily used to cure digestive disorders such as intestinal infections and diarrhea; however, with a paradigm shift towards alleviating health through food, their importance is large. Moreover, recent studies have changed the perspective that probiotics prevent numerous ailments in the major organs. Probiotics primarily produce biologically active compounds targeting discommodious pathogens. This review demonstrates the implications of using probiotics from different genres to prevent and alleviate ailments in the primary human organs. The findings reveal that probiotics immediately activate anti-inflammatory mechanisms by producing anti-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin (IL)-4, IL-10, IL-11, and IL-13, and hindering pro-inflammatory cytokines such as IL-1, IL-6, and TNF-α by involving regulatory T cells (Tregs) and T helper cells (Th cells). Several strains of Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus reuteri, Bifidobacterium longum, and Bifidobacterium breve have been listed among the probiotics that are excellent in alleviating various simple to complex ailments. Therefore, the importance of probiotics necessitates robust research to unveil the implications of probiotics, including the potency of strains, the optimal dosages, the combination of probiotics, their habitat in the host, the host response, and other pertinent factors.

Objective: To comprehensively capture intra-tumor heterogeneity in head and neck cancer (HNC) and maximize the use of valid information collected in the clinical field, we propose a novel multi-modal image–text fusion strategy aimed at improving prognosis. Method: We have developed a tailored diagnostic algorithm for HNC, leveraging a deep learning-based model that integrates both image and clinical text information. For the image fusion part, we used the cross-attention mechanism to fuse the image information between PET and CT, and for the fusion of text and image, we used the Q-former architecture to fuse the text and image information. We also improved the traditional prognostic model by introducing time as a variable in the construction of the model, and finally obtained the corresponding prognostic results. Result: We assessed the efficacy of our methodology through the compilation of a multicenter dataset, achieving commendable outcomes in multicenter validations. Notably, our results for metastasis-free survival (MFS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), overall survival (OS), and progression-free survival (PFS) were as follows: 0.796, 0.626, 0.641, and 0.691. Our results demonstrate a notable superiority over the utilization of CT and PET independently, and exceed the result derived without the clinical textual information. Conclusions: Our model not only validates the effectiveness of multi-modal fusion in aiding diagnosis, but also provides insights for optimizing survival analysis. The study underscores the potential of our approach in enhancing prognosis and contributing to the advancement of personalized medicine in HNC.

Cachexia is a condition characterized by substantial loss of body weight resulting from the depletion of skeletal muscle and adipose tissue. A considerable fraction of patients with advanced cancer, particularly those who have been diagnosed with pancreatic or gastric cancer, lung cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer, or leukemias, are impacted by this condition. This syndrome manifests at all stages of cancer and is associated with an unfavorable prognosis. It heightens the susceptibility to surgical complications, chemotherapy toxicity, functional impairments, breathing difficulties, and fatigue. The early detection of patients with cancer cachexia has the potential to enhance both their quality of life and overall survival rates. Regarding this matter, blood biomarkers, although helpful, possess certain limitations and do not exhibit universal application. Additionally, the available treatment options for cachexia are currently limited, and there is a lack of comprehensive understanding of the underlying molecular pathways associated with this condition. Thus, this review aims to provide an overview of molecular mechanisms associated with cachexia and potential therapeutic targets for the development of effective treatments for this devastating condition.

The dysregulation of sialic acid is closely associated with oncogenesis and tumor progression. Most tumor cells exhibit sialic acid upregulation. Sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-like lectins (Siglecs) are receptors that recognize sialic acid and are expressed in various immune cells. The activity of Siglecs in the tumor microenvironment promotes immune escape, mirroring the mechanisms of the well-characterized PD-1/PD-L1 pathway in cancer. Cancer cells utilize sialic acid-linked glycans to evade immune surveillance. As Siglecs exhibit similar mechanisms as the established immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), they are potential therapeutic targets for different forms of cancer, especially ICI-resistant malignancies. Additionally, the upregulation of sialic acid serves as a potential tumor biomarker. This review examines the feasibility of using sialic acid and Siglecs for early malignant tumor detection and discusses the potential of targeting Siglec–sialic acid interaction as a novel cancer therapeutic strategy.

Metagenomic sequencing is a valuable tool for non-specifically detecting various microorganisms in samples, offering unique advantages for detecting emerging pathogens, fastidious or uncultivable pathogens, and mixed infections. It has recently been applied to clinically detect pathogenic microorganisms in animals; however, the high proportion of host genes, expensive sequencing equipment, and the complexity of sequencing and data analysis methods have limited its clinical utility. In this study, a combination of tissue homogenization and nuclease digestion was employed to remove host genes from pig and cat samples; DNA and RNA were then extracted and subjected to nonselective PCR amplification to simultaneously detect DNA and RNA pathogen genomes using R9.4.1 or R10.4.1 flow cells on the MinION platform. Real-time pathogen detection was conducted using EPI2M WIMP, and viral genome assembly was performed using NanoFilt, minimap2, samtools, and ivar. Pathogens in five clinical samples (serum, nasopharyngeal swab, feces, or ascites) from cats and four clinical samples (lung or small intestine tissue) from pigs were examined by metagenomic sequencing, and the results were consistent with those obtained by PCR and bacterial culture. Additionally, we detected four viruses and three bacteria that may be associated with diseases. A comparison of results before and after host gene removal in three samples showed a 9–50% reduction in host genes. We also compared the assembly efficiency of six virus genomes and found that data volumes ranging from 3.3 to 98.3 MB were sufficient to assemble >90% of the viral genomes. In summary, this study utilized optimized nanopore metagenomic sequencing and analysis methods to reduce host genes, decrease the required data volume for sequencing analysis, and enable real-time detection to determine when to stop sequencing. The streamlined sequencing and analysis process overcomes barriers to the veterinary clinical application of metagenomic sequencing and provides a reference for clinical implementation.

The design of efficient oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts is of great significance for improving the energy efficiency of water electrolysis for hydrogen production. In this work, low-temperature fluorination and the introduction of a conductive substrate strategy greatly improve the OER performance in alkaline solutions. Cobalt–iron fluoride nanosheets supported on reduced graphene architectures are constructed by a one-step solvothermal method and further low-temperature fluorination treatment. The conductive graphene architectures can increase the conductivity of catalysts, and the transition metal ions act as electron acceptors to reduce the Fermi level of graphene, resulting in a low OER overpotential. The surface of the catalyst becomes porous and rough after fluorination, which can expose more active sites and improve the OER performance. Finally, the catalyst exhibits excellent catalytic performance in 1 M KOH, and the overpotential is 245 mV with a Tafel slope of 90 mV dec−1, which is better than the commercially available IrO2 catalyst. The good stability of the catalyst is confirmed with a chronoamperometry (CA) test and the change in surface chemistry is elucidated by comparing the XPS before and after the CA test. This work provides a new strategy to construct transition metal fluoride-based materials for boosted OER catalysts.

To achieve carbon neutrality in Japan by 2050, renewable energy needs to be used as the main energy source. Based on the constraints of various renewable energies, the importance of hydrogen cannot be ignored. This study aimed to investigate the diffusion of hydrogen demand technologies in various sectors and used projections and assumptions to investigate the hydrogen supply side. By performing simulations with the E3ME-FTT model and comparing various policy scenarios with the reference scenario, the economic and environmental impacts of the policy scenarios for hydrogen diffusion were analyzed. Moreover, the impact of realizing carbon neutrality by 2050 on the Japanese economy was evaluated. Our results revealed that large-scale decarbonization via hydrogen diffusion is possible (90% decrease of CO2 emissions in 2050 compared to the reference) without the loss of economic activity. Additionally, investments in new hydrogen-based and other low-carbon technologies in the power sector, freight road transport, and iron and steel industry can improve the gross domestic product (1.6% increase in 2050 compared to the reference), as they invoke economic activity and require additional employment (0.6% increase in 2050 compared to the reference). Most of the employment gains are related to decarbonizing the power sector and scaling up the hydrogen supply sector, while a lot of job losses can be expected in the mining and fossil fuel industries.

Multiple studies have indicated that distinct metabolites are involved in the occurrence and development of osteopenia (ON) and osteoporosis (OP); however, these metabolites in OP and ON have not yet been classified and standardized. This systematic review and meta-analysis included 21 articles aiming to investigate the distinct metabolites in patients with ON and OP. The quality of the included articles was generally high; seventeen studies had >7 stars, and the remaining four received 6 stars. This systematic review showed that three metabolites (phosphatidylcholine (PC) (lipid metabolites), galactose (carbohydrate metabolites), and succinic acid (other metabolites)) increased, four (glycylglycine (gly-gly), cystine (amino acids), sphingomyelin (SM) (lipid metabolites) and glucose (carbohydrate metabolites)) decreased, and five (glutamine, hydroxyproline, taurine (amino acids), lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) (lipid metabolites), and lactate (other metabolites)) had conflicting directions in OP/ON. The results of the meta-analysis show that gly-gly (MD = −0.77, 95%CI −1.43 to −0.11, p = 0.02) and cystine (MD = −5.52, 95%CI −7.35 to −3.68, p < 0.00001) decreased in the OP group compared with the healthy control group. Moreover, LPC (MD = 1.48, 95%CI 0.11 to 2.86, p = 0.03) increased in the OP group compared with the healthy control group. These results indicate that distinct metabolites were associated with ON and OP, which could be considered a predictor for OP.

Producing starch gels with superior mechanical attributes remains a challenging pursuit. This research sought to develop a simple method using ethanol exposure to produce robust starch gels. The gels’ mechanical properties, rheology, structural characteristics, and digestion were assessed through textural, rheological, structural, and in vitro digestion analyses. Our investigation revealed an improvement in the gel’s strength from 62.22 to178.82 g. The thermal transitions were accelerated when ethanol was elevated. The exposure to ethanol resulted in a reduction in syneresis from 11% to 9.5% over a period of 6 h, with noticeable changes in size and color. (1) Many studies have attempted to utilize metabolomic approaches to explore potential biomarkers for the early detection of osteoarthritis (OA), but consistent and high-level evidence is still lacking. In this study, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of differential small molecule metabolites between OA patients and healthy individuals to screen promising candidates from a large number of samples with the aim of informing future prospective studies. (2) Methods: We searched the EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science, Wan Fang Data, VIP Date, and CNKI up to 11 August 2022, and selected relevant records based on inclusion criteria. The risk of bias was assessed using the Newcastle–Ottawa quality assessment scale. We performed qualitative synthesis by counting the frequencies of changing directions and conducted meta-analyses using the random effects model and the fixed-effects model to calculate the mean difference and 95% confidence interval. (3) Results: A total of 3798 records were identified and 13 studies with 495 participants were included. In the 13 studies, 132 kinds of small molecule differential metabolites were extracted, 58 increased, 57 decreased and 17 had direction conflicts. Among them, 37 metabolites appeared more than twice. The results of meta-analyses among four studies showed that three metabolites increased, and eight metabolites decreased compared to healthy controls (HC). (4) Conclusions: The main differential metabolites between OA and healthy subjects were amino acids (AAs) and their derivatives, including tryptophan, lysine, leucine, proline, phenylalanine, glutamine, dimethylglycine, citrulline, asparagine, acetylcarnitine and creatinine (muscle metabolic products), which could be potential biomarkers for predicting OA.

In recent years, there has been a growing fascination with suspended two-dimensional (2D) materials, owing to their excellent mechanical, optical, and electronic characteristics. This surge of interest stems from the remarkable properties exhibited by these materials when they are isolated in a two-dimensional counterpart. Nanofabrication technologies provide a new platform to further explore the properties of 2D materials by suspending them to reduce the influence of substrates. In recent years, many scientists have discovered the feasibility of using suspended membranes of 2D materials in various fields, including optoelectronics and photonics. This review summarizes the recent progress in the fabrication, characterization, and applications of suspended 2D materials, focusing on critical properties such as optical and electronic properties, strain engineering, and thermal properties. This area has the potential to lead to new technologies and applications in a wide range of innovative fields.

China’s electricity market reform has posed a real challenge to the large-scale hydropower system. Taking the world’s largest watershed hydropower system, the Three Gorges large hydropower system (TGLHS), as the engineering background, this study analyzes the issues and strategies of dispatching and trading in the electricity market. The analysis indicates that the TGLHS exhibits unique difficulties because of transprovincial and transregional power transmission. Major issues including the multi-dimensional and multi-time-scale nested allocation of hydropower energy, the bidding and performance of cascaded hydropower plants in multiple electricity markets, as well as multiple uncertainties in the runoff; electricity prices in multiple markets are also elaborated upon. The corresponding suggested strategies are proposed to cope with the aforementioned issues: (1) for multi-dimensional and multi-scale nested allocation problems, it is necessary to comprehensively consider monthly market transactions and priority generation plans, and establish a profit maximization model; (2) propose a bidding decision-making linkage and segmented bidding optimization model for cascades upstream and downstream hydropower stations; (3) construct a model for decomposing the annual and monthly planned electricity consumption curves and developing operational plans for giant cascade power stations that are suitable for cross-provincial and cross-regional power transmission and transformation; (4) a runoff, electricity price, and market distribution model has been proposed, laying the foundation for further research on multi-scale optimization models for hydropower. Finally, prospects for research on the participation of large-scale hydropower systems in the electricity market are summarized, expecting to promote the marketization of large cascaded hydropower systems. The dispatching and trading of the TGLHS implies that it is important and necessary to explore market theories and methods considering hydropower characteristics and operation needs.

Numerical modeling approaches are favored for performing long-term analyses of continuous prestressed concrete rigid-frame (CPCR) bridges due to the complexity and high cost of experimental testing on such structures. In this study, a refined numerical modeling approach is first presented and validated by comparing the field monitor data of an existing long-span CPCR bridge in China. Then, long-term deflection analysis—considering box girder cracks, concrete creep, joint damage behavior and prestress—is conducted based on the proposed refined modeling approach. It is found that the time-dependent loss of longitudinal prestress has the most significant influence on the long-term structural stiffness, while joint damage between different segments has limited impact on overall structural performance, especially for large-span bridge cases. The local stress distribution is significantly influenced by typical damage, albeit with a different scope of impact. Therefore, targeted reinforcement has to be performed to achieve satisfactory repair results under different damage conditions.

It is difficult to exploit low-permeability reservoirs, and CO2 flooding is an effective method to improve oil recovery from low permeability reservoirs. However, in the process of CO2 flooding, acidic fluids dissolved in formation water will react with rock to cause dissolution and precipitation, resulting in pores and precipitates, changing the evolution law of seepage channels, destroying formation integrity, and affecting the effect of CO2 oil displacement. The change in rock’s physical properties and the mass transfer law between CO2-water-rock are unclear. This paper considers the coupling effects of seepage, mechanics, and chemistry when CO2 is injected into the formation. The mass transfer model of CO2-water-rock in the geochemical reaction process is established on this basis. The physical properties of the reservoir after CO2 injection are quantitatively studied based on the microscopic mechanism of chemical reaction, and the migration law of solute in the reservoir rock during CO2 flooding under the coupling effects of multiple fields is clarified. The experimental results show that with the increase in reaction time, the initial dissolution reaction of formation rocks will be transformed into a precipitation reaction of calcite, magnesite, and clay minerals. The porosity and permeability of the rocks near the well first increase and then decrease. The far well end is still dominated by dissolution reactions, and the average values of formation porosity and permeability show an upward trend. Although the dissolution reaction of CO2-water-rock can improve the physical properties of reservoir rocks to a certain extent, the mutual transformation of the dissolution reaction and precipitation reaction further exacerbates the heterogeneity of formation pore structure, leading to the instability of CO2 migration, uneven displacement, and destruction of formation stability. The research results of this paper solve the problem of quantitative calculation of physical parameters under the coupling effect of multiple fields after CO2 injection into reservoirs and can predict the changes in formation physical properties, which can provide a certain theoretical basis for evaluating formation integrity and adjusting CO2 injection under the condition of CO2 flooding.

Emotion analysis is currently a popular research direction in the field of natural language processing. However, existing research focuses primarily on tasks such as emotion classification, emotion extraction, and emotion cause analysis, while there are few investigations into the relationship between emotions and their impacts. To address these limitations, this paper introduces the emotion-driven behavior extraction (EDBE) task, which addresses these limitations by separately extracting emotions and behaviors to filter emotion-driven behaviors described in text. EDBE comprises three sub-tasks: emotion extraction, behavior extraction, and emotion–behavior pair filtering. To facilitate research in this domain, we have created a new dataset, which is accessible to the research community. To address the EDBE task, we propose a pipeline approach that incorporates the causal relationship between emotions and driven behaviors. Additionally, we adopt the prompt paradigm to improve the model’s representation of cause-and-effect relationships. In comparison to state-of-the-art methods, our approach demonstrates notable improvements, achieving a 1.32% improvement at the clause level and a 1.55% improvement at the span level on our newly curated dataset in terms of the F1 score, which is a commonly used metric to measure the performance of models. These results underscore the effectiveness and superiority of our approach in relation to existing methods.

Understanding the land use/cover changes associated with agricultural production is essential for food security in increasingly urbanizing areas. Such studies have been widely conducted in different regions of China; yet, its major grain-producing regions (MGPRs) remain less studied. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted analyses of the land use conversion matrix, spatial hot spots, decoupling, and index evaluation from a spatiotemporal perspective, to quantify the MGPRs’ farmland changes and its grain production efficiency and ecological security during 2000–2020. The results showed the following: (1) Farmland in the MGPRs experienced a net decline of 2.54 × 104 km2, with significant spatial heterogeneity in the area, extent, and speed of loss/gain. (2) Farmland gain came from mostly forest, grassland, and unused land, with hotspots in northeastern China, while farmland loss increasingly changed to construction lands, with hotspots covering east-central China and in the suburbs surrounding capital cities. (3) Grain production in the MGPRs increased by 1.6 times in the past 20 years, via its strong decoupling from farmland quantity in especially central-eastern China. (4) Land ecological security in the MGPRs was less secure but has been improving with non-homogeneous regional differences, while it demonstrated a spatial pattern of “higher security in the north–south and lower in the middle”. Our findings suggested that China’s MGPRs would continue to lose farmland and China’s food security should require a sustainable decoupling of grain production and farmland quantity while maintaining ecological security. This study has significant policy implications for farmland conservation in China’s MGPRs, as well as highlighting the landscape sustainability opportunities of urbanization-associated farmland loss in densely populated human–environment systems in general.

Hardly any previous studies have focused on the granitic dykes which intrude into the Paleoproterozoic Liaohe Group in the Liaodong Peninsula, northeast of the North China Craton. In situ zircon U-Pb dating, Lu-Hf isotopic and geochemical analyses on three representative monzogranite dykes were taken in this study. These dykes have relatively high content of SiO2 (72.20%–74.78%) and K2O (2.83%–6.37%), and have characteristics of high-K calc-alkaline to shoshonite series. Two dyke samples have I-type granite features and have high Sr/Y ratios and positive Eu anomalies, showing an adakitic feature. Another dyke has a high ratio of Ga/Al, but has a low Zr saturation temperature, which differs from the typical A-type granite. Zircon grains from these three dykes have typical magmatic zoning in CL images and yield consistent U-Pb ages of ~1859–1852 Ma, which are interpreted as the crystallization ages of these dykes. Hf isotopic analyses yield mainly negative εHf(t) values and TDM2 ages of 2782–2430 Ma, similar to those of the 2.2–2.1 Ga granitoids and meta-sedimentary rocks (the Liaohe Group), indicating these monzogranitic dykes may have been sourced from melting of Paleoproterozoic granitoids and meta-sedimentary rocks. The monzogranitic dykes were generated under a post-collisional geological setting after the Jiao-Liao-Ji orogeny process.

(1) Background: Many studies have attempted to explore potential biomarkers for the early detection of gout, but consistent and high levels of evidence are lacking. In this study, metabolomics was used to summarize the changes of metabolites in the literature and explore the potential value of metabolites in predicting the occurrence and development of gout. (2) Methods: We searched the databases including the EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science, VIP Date, Wanfang Data, and CNKI, and the screening was fulfilled on 30 July 2022. The records were screened according to the inclusion criteria and the risk of bias was assessed. Qualitative analysis was performed for all metabolites, and meta-analysis was performed for metabolite concentrations using random effects to calculate the Std mean difference and 95% confidence interval. (3) Results: A total of 2738 records were identified, 33 studies with 3422 participants were included, and 701 metabolites were identified. The qualitative analysis results showed that compared with the healthy control group, the concentration of 56 metabolites increased, and 22 metabolites decreased. The results of the meta-analysis indicated that 17 metabolites were statistically significant. (4) Conclusions: Metabolites are associated with gout. Some specific metabolites such as uric acid, hypoxanthine, xanthine, KYNA, guanosine, adenosine, creatinine, LB4, and DL-2-Aminoadipic acid have been highlighted in the development of gout.

Population growth and construction land expansion’s link to sustainable development has gained attention. This study investigated the urban–rural divergence in the population–construction land relationship in China’s Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB) from 2000 to 2020 using census and land-use data. This study utilized an integrated urban–rural framework to discuss reasons for the disparity. The findings suggested the following: (1) A spatial mismatch formed between population distribution and construction land allocation in the YREB from 2000 to 2020. The mismatch gap in rural areas was larger than in urban areas. (2) The urban areas maintained double growth rates in the population and construction land, while rural areas experienced constant population loss accompanied by construction land expansion. (3) An expansive negative decoupling relationship dominated the urban population–land system, while a strong negative decoupling relationship dominated the rural population–land system. (4) Institutional factors, such as land financialization and urban–rural dualism, were major triggers for the mismatch between population and construction land. Policy responses such as a new type of urbanization and rural revitalization strategies can shape the population–land relationship’s evolution. Our comparative analysis of urban and rural areas highlights the population–land relationship’s complexity, promoting sustainable land-use planning in urban–rural spaces.

The iron and steel industry is a large emitter of CO2 globally. This is especially true for the iron and steel industries in China, Japan, and Korea due to their production volumes and the prevalence of carbon-based steel production. With few low-carbon and commercially available alternatives, the iron and steel industry is truly a hard-to-abate sector. Each of the countries of interest have committed to a net-zero future involving the mitigation of emissions from steel production. However, few studies have investigated the means by which to achieve decarbonization beyond the inclusion of price signalling policies (e.g., carbon tax or emission trading schemes). Here, we use E3ME-FTT:Steel to simulate technology diffusion in the ISI under several policy environments and we investigate the likely impacts on the wider economy. The results show that penalizing carbon intensive processes can incentivize a transition towards scrap recycling, but it is relatively unsuccessful in aiding the uptake of low carbon primary steelmaking. A combination of support and penalizing policies can achieve deep decarbonisation (>80% emission reduction compared with the baseline). Mitigating the emissions in the iron and steel industry can lead to economic benefits in terms of GDP (China: +0.8%; Japan: +1.3%; Korea: +0.1%), and employment (Japan: +0.7%; Korea: +0.3%) with China, where job losses in the coal sector would negate job gains elsewhere, as the exception.

Plant invasion has severely damaged ecosystem stability and species diversity worldwide. The cooperation between arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and plant roots is often affected by changes in the external environment. Exogenous phosphorus (P) addition can alter the root absorption of soil resources, thus regulating the root growth and development of exotic and native plants. However, it remains unclear how exogenous P addition regulates the root growth and development of exotic and native plants mediated by AMF, affecting the exotic plant invasion. In this experiment, the invasive plant Eupatorium adenophorum and native plant Eupatorium lindleyanum were selected and cultured under intraspecific (Intra-) competition and interspecific (Inter-) competition conditions, involving inoculation with (M+) and without AMF (M−) and three different levels of P addition including no addition (P0), addition with 15 mg P kg−1 soil (P15), and addition with 25 mg P kg−1 soil (P25) for the two species. Root traits of the two species were analyzed to study the response of the two species’ roots to AMF inoculation and P addition. The results showed that AMF significantly promoted the root biomass, length, surface area, volume, tips, branching points, and carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and P accumulation of the two species. Under M+ treatment, the Inter- competition decreased the root growth and nutrient accumulation of invasive E. adenophorum but increased the root growth and nutrient accumulation of native E. lindleyanum relative to the Intra- competition. Meanwhile, the exotic and native plants responded differently to P addition, exhibiting root growth and nutrient accumulation of invasive E. adenophorum increased with P addition, whereas native E. lindleyanum reduced with P addition. Further, the root growth and nutrition accumulation of native E. lindleyanum were higher than invasive E. adenophorum under Inter- competition. In conclusion, exogenous P addition promoted the invasive plant but reduced the native plant in root growth and nutrient accumulation regulated by AMF, although the native plant outcompeted the invasive plant when the two species competed. The findings provide a critical perspective that the anthropogenic P fertilizer addition might potentially contribute to the successful invasion of exotic plants.

Nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) are the three most important mineral nutrients for crop growth and development. We previously constructed a genetic map of unigenes (UG-Map) based on their physical positions using a RIL population derived from the cross of “TN18 × LM6” (TL-RILs). In this study, a total of 18 traits related to mineral use efficiency (MUE) of N/P/K were investigated under three growing seasons using TL-RILs. A total of 54 stable QTLs were detected, distributed across 19 chromosomes except for 3A and 5B. There were 50 QTLs associated with only one trait, and the other four QTLs were associated with two traits. A total of 73 candidate genes for stable QTLs were identified. Of these, 50 candidate genes were annotated in Chinese Spring (CS) RefSeq v1.1. The average number of candidate genes per QTL was 1.35, with 45 QTLs containing only one candidate gene and nine QTLs containing two or more candidate genes. The candidate gene TraesCS6D02G132100 (TaPTR gene) for QGnc-6D-3306 belongs to the NPF (NRT1/PTR) gene family. We speculate that the TaPTR gene should regulate the GNC trait.

Organophosphate esters (OPEs) are increasingly used as flame retardants and plasticizers in various products. Most of them are physically mixed rather than chemical bonded to the polymeric products, leading to OPEs being readily released into the surrounding environment. Due to their relatively high solubility and mobility, OPEs are ubiquitous in the aquatic environment and may pose potential hazards to human health and aquatic organisms. This review systematically summarized the fate and distribution of OPEs in the aquatic environment and the potential effects of OPEs on humans. Data analysis shows that the concentrations of OPEs vary widely in various types of aquatic environments, including surface water (range: 25–3671 ng/L), drinking water (4–719 ng/L), and wastewater (104–29,800 ng/L). The results of human exposure assessments via aquatic products and drinking water ingestion indicate that all OPEs pose low, but not negligible, risks to human health. In addition, the limitations of previous studies are summarized, and the outlook is provided. This review provides valuable information on the occurrence and distribution of OPEs in the aquatic environment.

Symbiotic bacteria and hormesis in aphids are the driving forces for pesticide resistance. However, the mechanism remains unclear. In this study, the effects of imidacloprid on the population growth parameters and symbiotic bacterial communities of three successive generations of Acyrthosiphon gossypii were investigated. The bioassay results showed that imidacloprid had high toxicity to A. gossypii with an LC50 of 1.46 mg·L−1. The fecundity and longevity of the G0 generation of A. gossypii decreased when exposed to the LC15 of imidacloprid. The net reproductive rate (R0), intrinsic rate of increase (rm), finite rate of increase (λ), and total reproductive rate (GRR) of G1 and G2 offspring were significantly increased, but those of the control and G3 offspring were not. In addition, sequencing data showed that the symbiotic bacteria of A. gossypii mainly belonged to Proteobacteria, with a relative abundance of 98.68%. The dominant genera of the symbiotic bacterial community were Buchnera and Arsenophonus. After treatment with the LC15 of imidacloprid, the diversity and species number of bacterial communities of A. gossypii decreased for G1–G3 and the abundance of Candidatus-Hamiltonella decreased, but Buchnera increased. These results provide insight into the resistance mechanism of insecticides and the stress adaptation between symbiotic bacteria and aphids.

Polyester/polyamide 6 hollow segmented pie bicomponent spunbond hydro-entangled microfiber nonwovens (PET/PA6) with a microfilament structure have recently emerged in many markets around the world due to their green, high-strength, and lightweight properties. However, PET/PA6 is highly hydrophobic, which inhibits its large-scale application at present. In order to enhance the hydrophilic performance of PET/PA6, many methods have been applied, but the effects are not obvious. Ultraviolet (UV) irradiation treatment has proven to be an effective method to improve the hydrophilicity of fabrics. Herein, the aim of this paper was to investigate hydrophilic modification of PET/PA6 by UV/TiO2/H2O2. The effect of H2O2, nano-TiO2, and UV irradiation time on the morphology, elemental composition, hydrophilic properties, and mechanical properties of PET/PA6 were systematically investigated. The results showed that the modified microfibers were coated with a layer of granular material on the surface. It was found that the C 1s peak could be deconvoluted into six components (C–C–C, C–C–O, O–C=O, N–C=O, N–C–C, and C–C=O), and a suitable mechanism was proposed. Moreover, the water contact angle of PET/PA6 modified by 90 min irradiation with UV/TiO2/H2O2 decreased to zero in 0.015 s, leading to the water vapor transmission rate and the water absorption reaching 5567.49 g/(m2·24 h) and 438.81%, respectively. In addition, the modified PET/PA6 had an excellent liquid wicking height of 141.87 mm and liquid wicking rate of 28.37 mm/min.

Bitter gourd (Momordica charantia L.) is a significant vegetable. Although it has a special bitter taste, it is still popular with the public. The industrialization of bitter gourd could be hampered by a lack of genetic resources. The bitter gourd’s mitochondrial and chloroplast genomes have not been extensively studied. In the present study, the mitochondrial genome of bitter gourd was sequenced and assembled, and its substructure was investigated. The mitochondrial genome of bitter gourd is 331,440 bp with 24 unique core genes, 16 variable genes, 3 rRNAs, and 23 tRNAs. We identified 134 SSRs and 15 tandem repeats in the entire mitochondrial genome of bitter gourd. Moreover, 402 pairs of repeats with a length greater than or equal to 30 were observed in total. The longest palindromic repeat was 523 bp, and the longest forward repeat was 342 bp. We found 20 homologous DNA fragments in bitter gourd, and the summary insert length was 19,427 bp, accounting for 5.86% of the mitochondrial genome. We predicted a total of 447 potential RNA editing sites in 39 unique PCGs and also discovered that the ccmFN gene has been edited the most often, at 38 times. This study provides a basis for a better understanding and analysis of differences in the evolution and inheritance patterns of cucurbit mitochondrial genomes.

Due to factors such as casting, mold making, and construction errors, the actual size of the bridge structure will inevitably deviate from the designed size and dimension, and the amount of deviation between the two volumes is generally random and the location of the deviation is not fixed. However, this phenomenon that occurs in the actual practice has not been paid enough attention within existing studies. From a theoretical point of view, the apparent size of concrete will directly affect the cross-sectional stiffness, especially for statically indeterminate structures. This effect will be further reflected in the internal force and stress distribution of the structure. In addition, the variation of the poured volume of the bridge superstructure can also influence the dead-load effect of the bridge structure. Therefore, the influence of pouring concrete volume deviation (PCVD) on the cross-sectional stiffness of large-span continuous reinforced concrete rigid-frame (CRCR) bridges was first stressed and investigated in this paper. Field data of PCVD were monitored by measuring demolished sections with tools that ensure accuracy, and a sensitivity analysis was conducted to analyze the effect of PCVD on the cross-sectional stiffness at different locations. Statistical analysis of the measured data concluded that PCVD has a significant influence on the internal-force distribution and structural stiffness of the bridge, up to 30%. Finally, a theoretical method that considers the influence of PCVD was proposed based on the field monitoring data and the statistical analysis results.

Herein, poly (allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH)/ poly (styrene sulfonic acid) sodium salt (PSS) microcapsules of (PAH/PSS)2PAH (P2P MCs) and (PAH/PSS)2 (P2 MCs) were obtained by a layer-by-layer method. The P2 MCs show high adsorption capacity for Rhodamine B (642.26 mg/g) and methylene blue (909.25 mg/g), with an extremely low equilibrium adsorption time (~20 min). The P2P MCs exhibited high adsorption capacities of reactive orange K-G (ROKG) and direct yellow 5G (DY5G) which were 404.79 and 451.56 mg/g. Adsorption processes of all dyes onto microcapsules were best described by the Langmuir isotherm model and a pseudo-second-order kinetic model. In addition, the P2P MCs loaded with reactive dyes (P2P–ROKG), could further adsorb rhodamine B (RhB) dye, and P2 MCs that had adsorbed cationic MB dyes could also be used for secondary adsorption treatment of direct dye waste-water, respectively. The present work confirmed that P2P and P2 MCs were expected to become an excellent adsorbent in the water treatment industry.

In this paper, the effect of nitrogen annealing on the resistive switching characteristics of the rutile TiO2 nanowire-based W/TiO2/FTO memory device is analyzed. The W/TiO2/FTO memory device exhibits a nonvolatile bipolar resistive switching behavior with a high resistance ratio (RHRS/RLRS) of about two orders of magnitude. The conduction behaviors of the W/TiO2/FTO memory device are attributed to the Ohmic conduction mechanism and the Schottky emission in the low resistance state and the high resistance state, respectively. Furthermore, the RHRS/RLRS of the W/TiO2/FTO memory device is obviously increased from about two orders of magnitude to three orders of magnitude after the rapid nitrogen annealing treatment. In addition, the change in the W/TiO2 Schottky barrier depletion layer thickness and barrier height modified by the oxygen vacancies at the W/TiO2 interface is suggested to be responsible for the resistive switching characteristics of the W/TiO2/FTO memory device. This work demonstrates the potential applications of the rutile TiO2 nanowire-based W/TiO2/FTO memory device for high-density data storage in nonvolatile memory devices.

In order to improve the photocatalytic performance of g-C3N4, the g-C3N4/Ti3C2/Ag3PO4 S-type heterojunction catalyst was prepared by electrostatic assembly method, and then the g-C3N4/Ti3C2/Ag3PO4/PAN composite nanofiber membrane was prepared by electrospinning technology. The morphology and chemical properties of the nanofiber membrane were characterized by SEM, FTIR, and XRD, and the photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) in water by the nanofiber membrane was investigated. The results showed that g-C3N4/Ti3C2/Ag3PO4 could be successfully loaded on PAN and uniformly distributed on the surface of composite nanofiber membrane by electrospinning technology. Increasing the amount of loading and catalyst, lowering the pH value and TC concentration of the system were conducive to the oxidation and degradation of TC. The nano-fiber catalytic membrane had been recycled five times and found to have excellent photocatalytic stability and reusability. The study of catalytic mechanism showed that h+, •OH and •O2− were produced and participated in the oxidation degradation reaction of TC, and •O2− plays a major role in catalysis. Therefore, this work provides a new insight into the construction of high-performance and high-stability photocatalytic system by electrospinning technology.

The studies on floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs) have been increasing over recent decades due to the growing interest in offshore renewable energy. The present paper proposes a barge platform with four moonpools to support the Technical University of Denmark 10 MW wind turbine for a designed water depth of 60 m. A 4 × 2 mooring system with eight mooring lines is also proposed for the barge platform. The main dimensions of the barge platform are optimally selected with respect to its preliminary hydrodynamic properties and potential financial benefit. The proposed barge-type FOWT is then demonstrated to be aligned with the DNV standard requirements in terms of its intact and damage stability. Furthermore, coupled time-domain simulations are conducted for the proposed barge FOWT with mooring under the selected environmental and operational conditions by using Simo-Riflex-AeroDyn (SRA). Through decay test simulations, the natural periods of the barge-type FOWT are demonstrated to be within the DNV recommended ranges. The proposed mooring system is also benchmarked with the 3 × 3 mooring concept that was used for a 3 MW barge-type FOWT installed in Kitakyushu. The response magnitudes of the barge platform and mooring line tension are similar to both mooring systems, and thus the 4 × 2 mooring system is preferred due to its lower cost. In addition, the proposed barge platform is preliminarily demonstrated to be able to survive for the 50-year extreme environmental conditions under parked wind turbine status, as well as the normal environmental conditions under the operating status.

To clarify the organic matter (OM) enrichment of the Lishui Sag, the factors influencing the variable abundance of OM in the Lingfeng Formation are studied using organic geochemical data. The source rocks of the Lingfeng Formation have medium–high total organic carbon (TOC) values (0.53–3.56%). The main type of kerogen is II2-III. Compared to the shallow marine subfacies source rocks, the TOC of the delta front subfacies source rocks is higher. The distribution of biomarkers shows that the redox environment of the delta front subfacies source rock is the sub-oxidizing and oxic environment, and the source rock is mainly supplied by terrigenous higher plants; the redox environment of shallow marine subfacies source rocks is a sub-reducing and suboxic environment, and the OM mainly comes from algae. The link between OM input and OM abundance demonstrates that terrigenous OM (TOM) input has a considerable influence on OM abundance. However, there is no obvious relationship between preservation and OM abundance, which suggests that preservation is not the determining element in OM enrichment. The strong sediment flux decreases the amount of time that OM is exposed to oxygen. As a result, delta front subfacies with large TOM input have a huge number of excellent source rocks. This paper proposes a “delta front-OM input model” for excellent source rocks.

The large amount of waste synthetic polyester plastics has complicated waste management and also endangering the environment due to improper littering. In this study, a novel carboxylesterase from Thermobacillus composti KWC4 (Tcca) was identified, heterologously expressed in Escherichia coli, purified and characterized with various plastic substrates. Irregular grooves were detected on polybutylene adipate terephthalate (PBAT) film by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) after Tcca treatment, and Tcca can also hydrolyze short–chain diester bis(hydroxyethyl) terephthalate (BHET). The optimal pH and temperature for Tcca were 7.0 and 40 °C, respectively. In order to explore its catalytic mechanism and improve its potential for plastic hydrolysis, we modeled the protein structure of Tcca and compared it with its homologous structures, and we identified positions that might be crucial for the binding of substrates. We generated a variety of Tcca variants by mutating these key positions; the variant F325A exhibited a more than 1.4–fold improvement in PBAT hydrolytic activity, and E80A exhibited a more than 4.1–fold increase in BHET activity when compared to the wild type. Tcca and its variants demonstrated future applicability for the recycling of bioplastic waste containing a PBAT fraction.

(1) Background: DNA double strand breaks (DSBs) are the most serious form of DNA damage that affects oocyte maturation and the physiological state of follicles and ovaries. Non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) play a crucial role in DNA damage and repair. This study aims to analyze and establish the network of ncRNAs when DSB occurs and provide new ideas for next research on the mechanism of cumulus DSB. (2) Methods: Bovine cumulus cells (CCs) were treated with bleomycin (BLM) to construct a DSB model. We detected the changes of the cell cycle, cell viability, and apoptosis to determine the effect of DSBs on cell biology, and further evaluated the relationship between the transcriptome and competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network and DSBs. (3) Results: BLM increased γH2AX positivity in CCs, disrupted the G1/S phase, and decreased cell viability. Totals of 848 mRNAs, 75 long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs), 68 circular RNAs (circRNAs), and 71 microRNAs (miRNAs) in 78 groups of lncRNA–miRNA–mRNA regulatory networks, 275 groups of circRNA–miRNA–mRNA regulatory networks, and five groups of lncRNA/circRNA–miRNA–mRNA co-expression regulatory networks were related to DSBs. Most differentially expressed ncRNAs were annotated to cell cycle, p53, PI3K-AKT, and WNT signaling pathways. (4) Conclusions: The ceRNA network helps to understand the effects of DNA DSBs activation and remission on the biological function of CCs.
