The energy release process of the Mg-based hydroreactive fuels directly affects the performance of water ramjet engines, and the burning rate is one of the key parameters of the Mg-based hydroreactive fuels. However, there is not enough in-depth understanding of the combustion process of Mg-based hydroreactive fuels within the chamber of water ramjet engines, and there is a lack of effective means of prediction of the burning rate. Therefore, this paper aims to examine the flame structure of Mg-based hydroreactive fuels with a high metal content and analyze the impact of the water injection velocity and droplet diameter on the combustion property. A combustion experiment system was designed to replicate the combustion of Mg-based hydroreactive fuels within water ramjet engines, and the average linear burning rate was calculated through the target line method. On the basis of the experiment, a combustion–flow coupling solution model of Mg-based hydroreactive fuels was formulated, including the reaction mechanism between Mg/H2O and the decomposition products from an oxidizer and binder. The model was validated through experimental results with Mg-based hydroreactive fuels at various pressures and water injection velocities. The mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) in the experimental results was less than 5%, proving the accuracy and validity of the model. The resulting model was employed for simulating the combustion of Mg-based hydroreactive fuels under different water injection parameters. The addition of water injection resulted in the creation of a new high-temperature region, namely the Mg/H2O non-premixed combustion region in addition to improving the radial diffusion of the flame. With the increasing water injection velocity, the characteristic distance of Mg/H2O non-premixed combustion region is decreased, which enhances the heat transfer to burning surface and accelerates the fuel combustion. The impact of droplet parameters was investigated, revealing that larger droplets enhance the penetration of the fuel-rich gas, which is similar to the effect of injection velocity. However, when the droplet size becomes too large, the aqueous droplets do not fully evaporate, resulting in a slight decrease in the burning rate. These findings enhance the understanding of the mechanisms behind the burning rate variation in Mg-based hydroreactive fuels and offer theoretical guidance for the optimal selection of the engine operating parameters.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is difficult to cure and easy to relapse, leading to poor quality of life for patients. Oxymatrine (OMT) is one of the main alkaloids of Sophora flavescens Aiton, which has many effects, such as anti-inflammation, anti-oxidative stress, and immunosuppression. This study aimed to investigate whether OMT could attenuate ulcerative colitis by inhibiting the NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing three (NLRP3) inflammasome-mediated pyroptosis. In this study, the UC rat models were established by 2,4,6-Trinitrobenzenesulfonic acid (TNBS) in vivo, while RAW264.7 cells and peritoneal macrophages were stimulated with Lipopolysaccharides/Adenosine Triphosphate (LPS/ATP) in vitro to simulate pyroptosis models, and Western blotting (WB) and other detection techniques were applied to analyze proteins involved in the NLRP3 inflammasome pathway. Our results showed that OMT alleviated colitis ulcers and pathological damage in the TNBS-induced UC rats and exhibited an inhibitory effect on pyroptosis at the early stage of UC. In the model group, the pyroptosis reached the peak at 24 h after modeling with the contents of active-cysteine-aspartic proteases-1 (caspase-1), Gasdermin D (GSDMD)-N, and cleaved-interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) to the highest expression level. Meanwhile, we found that OMT (80 mg kg−1) remarkably decreased the expression levels of NLRP3, active-caspase-1, and cleaved-IL-1β at 24 h in the lesion tissue from UC rats. Further experiments on cells demonstrated that OMT at concentrations of 100 and 250 μM significantly inhibited cell death caused by NLRP3 inflammasome activation (p < 0.05), downregulated caspase-1, GSDMD, and decreased the levels of active-caspase-1, GSDMD-N, cleaved-IL-1β in RAW326.7 cells, and peritoneal macrophages. In summary, these results indicated that OMT could attenuate ulcerative colitis through inhibiting pyroptosis mediated by the NLRP3 inflammasome. The inhibition of the NLRP3 inflammasome may be a potential strategy for UC.

The unsatisfactory efficacy of immunotherapy for colorectal cancer (CRC) remains a major challenge for clinicians and patients. The tumor microenvironment may promote CRC progression by upregulating the expression of hypoxia-inducing factor (HIF) and PD-L1. Therefore, this study explored the expression and correlation of HIF-1α and PD-L1 in the CRC microenvironment. The expression and correlation of HIF-1α and PD-L1 in CRC were analyzed using bioinformatics and Western blotting (WB). The hypoxia and inflammation of the CRC microenvironment were established in the CT26 cell line. CT26 cells were stimulated with two hypoxia mimics, CoCl2 and DFO, which were used to induce the hypoxic environment. Western blotting was used to assess the expression and correlation of HIF-1α and PD-L1 in the hypoxic environment.LPS stimulated CT26 cells to induce the inflammatory environment. WB and bioinformatics were used to assess the expression and correlation of TLR4, HIF-1α, and PD-L1 in the inflammatory environment. Furthermore, the impact of curcumin on the inflammatory environment established by LPS-stimulated CT26 cells was demonstrated through MTT, Transwell, molecular docking, network pharmacology and Western blotting assays. In this study, we found that the HIF-1α/PD-L1 pathway was activated in the hypoxic and inflammatory environment and promoted immune escape in CRC. Meanwhile, curcumin suppressed tumor immune escape by inhibiting the TLR4/HIF-1α/PD-L1 pathway in the inflammatory environment of CRC. These results suggest that combination therapy based on the HIF-1α/PD-L1 pathway can be a promising therapeutic option and that curcumin can be used as a potent immunomodulatory agent in clinical practice.

This study was conducted to examine the effect of porcine placenta extract mixture (pPEM, enzymatic/acidic extract = 1/3) on alcoholic hepatotoxicity after pPEM dosing with alcohol in rats. The experimental groups were normal, control, silymarin, three pPEM (590, 1771, and 2511 mg/kg/day, po), and silymarin (100 mg/kg/day, po) groups (n = 10). Alcoholic hepatotoxicity was caused by a liquid ethanol diet for 4 weeks. The effect of pPEM and silymarin on alcoholic hepatotoxicity was evaluated by serology, hepatic ADH and ALDH activities, and histopathological findings. After oral dosing with alcohol for 4 weeks, ALT and AST were significantly increased to 33.7 → 115.6 and 81.37 → 235.0 in the alcohol group, respectively. These levels were decreased significantly to 83.9 and 126.7 in the silymarin group and dose-dependently to 73.6–56.9 and 139.2–122.8 in all pPEM groups. Hepatic ADH and ALDH might have been increased in the control and not in the silymarin and pPEM groups for hepatic ADH. All pPEM groups exhibited no effects on hepatic ALDH except for the high pPEM group. Mild inflammation and fatty lesions were observed in the alcohol group and were attenuated in the silymarin and pPEM groups. As a results, the pPEM showed protective activities against alcoholic hepatotoxicity on the serological markers, hepatic ADH and ALDH, and pathological findings.

This study aimed to elucidate the unique chemical compositions of plasma-activated water (PAW) and the potential antibacterial efficacy of PAW as a novel vaginal cleanser. We analyzed the ion compositions (four anions: F−, Cl−, NO3−, SO42−; five cations: Na+, NH4+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+) of several formulations of PAW generated at different electrical powers (12 and 24 V) at various treatment time points (1, 10, and 20 min), and stay durations (immediate, 30, and 60 min). As treatment duration increased, hypochlorous acid (HOCl), Ca2+, and Mg2+ concentrations increased and Cl− concentration decreased. Higher electrical power and longer treatment duration resulted in increased HOCl levels, which acts to prevent the growth of general microorganisms. Notably, PAW had no antibacterial effects against the probiotic, Lactobacillus reuteri, which produces lactic acid and is important for vaginal health. These findings indicate that PAW contains HOCl and some cations (Ca2+ and Mg2+), which should help protect against pathogens of the vaginal mucosa and have a cleansing effect within the vaginal environment while not harming beneficial bacteria.

Solid propellant combustion and flow are significantly affected by condensed combustion products (CCPs) in solid rocket motors. A new aluminum agglomeration model is established using the discrete element method, considering the burning rate and formulation of the propellant. Combining the aluminum combustion and alumina deposition model, an analytical model of the evolution of CCPs is proposed, capable of predicting the particle-size distribution of completely burned CCPs. The CCPs near and away from the propellant burning surface are collected by a special quench vessel under 6~10 MPa, to verify the applicability of the CCP evolution model. Experimental results show that the predicted error of the proposed CCP evolution model is less than 8.5%. Results are expected to help develop better analytical tools for the combustion of solid propellants and solid rocket motors.

Dissolved organic matter (DOM) is generally the dominant carbon pool in freshwater lakes and plays a vital role in the regional or even global carbon cycle. In recent years, steppe lakes have been subject to two stressors: eutrophication and abnormally high concentrations of organic matter. However, little is known about the sources and composition of the organic matter. In this study, carbon/nitrogen (C/N) ratios and three-dimensional excitation–emission matrix (3DEEM) fluorescence spectroscopy were adopted to identify the sources and composition of DOM in Hulun Lake, a large shallow steppe lake. The physicochemical and water quality parameters of Hulun Lake and three inflow rivers, Crulen River, Orshen River and Hailar River, were also investigated. The results showed that visible fulvic-like fluorescence (peak C) and tryptophan-like substances (peak T) were the main components of the DOM. The C/N atomic ratios and spectral characteristics of the DOM suggested that approximately 82% of the DOM in Lake Hulun is derived from terrigenous material. The results underscore that it is necessary to devote more research attention to terrestrial inputs into steppe lakes.

Energy density, which is an important indicator of the performance of solid propellants, is known to increase with the addition of 2,4,6,8,10,12-hexanitro-2,4,6,8,10,12-hexaazaisowurtzitane (CL-20). However, it remains unclear how CL-20 affects the decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP) and energy release. Here, the effects of CL-20 on the combustion performance and agglomeration of propellants were investigated. The addition of CL-20 decreased AP decomposition temperature and the energy required for the transformation of AP crystals from orthorhombic to cubic. The burning rate and pressure exponent of the propellant with 42% CL-20 were significantly higher than those of the propellant containing 20% CL-20. Thus, adding CL-20 to the propellant improves the energy characteristics and burning rate and the pressure exponent increases. At low combustion chamber pressure, the agglomeration of the propellant containing a high content of CL-20 will be blown away from the combustion surface only after staying on that surface for a short time. In this process, the probability of volume growth of the agglomeration after merging with other agglomerations greatly decreases, thus reducing the overall agglomerate particle sizes; further, the addition of a small amount of CL-20 to the propellant may lead to a reduction in agglomerate particle sizes. AP with a smaller particle size weakens the agglomeration in the combustion process and decreases the number of agglomerates with large particle sizes. These findings lay the foundation for the development of novel high-energy propellants.

Four new prenylxanthones, emerixanthones A–D (1–4), together with six known analogues (5–10), were isolated from the culture of the deep-sea sediment derived fungus Emericella sp. SCSIO 05240, which was identified on the basis of morphology and ITS sequence analysis. The newstructures were determined by NMR (1H, 13C NMR, HSQC, HMBC, and 1H-1H COSY), MS, CD, and optical rotation analysis. The absolute configuration of prenylxanthone skeleton was also confirmed by the X-ray crystallographic analysis. Compounds 1and 3 showed weak antibacterial activities, and 4 displayed mild antifungal activities against agricultural pathogens.

Phytophthora root rot (PRR) is a destructive disease of soybeans (Glycine max (L.) Merr) caused by Phytophthora sojae (P. sojae). The most effective way to prevent the disease is growing resistant or tolerant varieties. Partial resistance provides a more durable resistance against the pathogen compared to complete resistance. Wild soybean (Glycine soja Sieb. & Zucc.) seems to be an extraordinarily important gene pool for soybean improvement due to its high level of genetic variation. In this study, 242 wild soybean germplasms originating from different regions of Heilongjiang province were used to identify resistance genes to P. sojae race 1 using a genome-wide association study (GWAS). A total of nine significant SNPs were detected, repeatedly associated with P. sojae resistance and located on chromosomes 1, 10, 12, 15, 17, 19 and 20. Among them, seven favorable allelic variations associated with P. sojae resistance were evaluated by a t-test. Eight candidate genes were predicted to explore the mechanistic hypotheses of partial resistance, including Glysoja.19G051583, which encodes an LRR receptor-like serine/threonine protein kinase protein, Glysoja.19G051581, which encodes a receptor-like cytosolic serine/threonine protein kinase protein. These findings will provide additional insights into the genetic architecture of P. sojae resistance in a large sample of wild soybeans and P. sojae-resistant breeding through marker-assisted selection.
