A kettle reboiler uses the latent heat from the condensation of high-temperature and high-pressure steam in the tube to produce low-pressure saturated steam in the outer shell. The deposition of particles on the tube may change the boiling heat transfer mode from nucleate boiling to natural convection, thereby deteriorating the heat transfer performance of the kettle reboiler. Therefore, it is very important to explore the deposition characteristics of particles in the kettle reboiler. In this study, the RPI boiling model based on the Euler–Euler method is used to analyze the water boiling process on the surface of the tube bundle. The DRW model and critical adhesion velocity model based on the Euler–Lagrangian method are used to calculate the motion of particles during the boiling process and the deposition (rebound) behavior. The results show that the boiling of liquid water enhances the local flow velocity of the fluid, so that the maximum flow velocity appears around the near-wall region. The local high-speed flow disperses the particles in the wake flow of the tube bundle, which inhibits the impact of particles on the wall. As the particle size increases, the wall adhesion and fluid drag on the particles are weakened, and the gravity effect gradually becomes dominant, increasing the residence time of the particles in the tube bundle and the frequency of particle impact on the wall. The particle deposition ratio first decreases and then increases. Ultimately, most particles will be deposited in the low-speed area at the end of the tube bundle.

Eukaryotic phytoplankton play a major role in the circulation of material and energy in a lake’s ecosystem. The acquisition of information on the eukaryotic phytoplankton community is extremely significant for handling and regulating the ecosystems of lakes. In this study, samples were collected from the western half of Chaohu Lake in the summer and winter periods. Analyses revealed that the eukaryotic phytoplankton in this region comprised 70 genera, 34 orders, and 7 phyla. There were 61 genera, 29 orders, and 7 phyla in summer, and 25 genera, 14 orders, and 5 phyla in winter. The dominant genus was Chlamydomonas of Chlorophyta in summer. In contrast, the dominant genus was Mychonastes of Chlorophyta in winter. The diversity index analysis revealed that the eukaryotic phytoplankton community exhibited greater fluctuation in the summer than in the winter. Moreover, analysis of the physiochemical properties of the water samples showed considerable spatial and temporal differences in the water quality. This paper focusses primarily on analysing the influence of the physiochemical properties of water on the eukaryotic phytoplankton community. In particular, the effects of the major physicochemical properties of water on the community evolution of eukaryotic phytoplankton classes were evaluated using the redundancy analysis method. The findings demonstrated that total phosphorus (TP), PO4−-P, NH4+-N, and total nitrogen (TN) were the primary influencing factors in summer, whereas NO3−-N, DO, and water temperature (WT) were the major influencing factors in winter. Subsequently, the Mantel test revealed that the phylum level of the eukaryotic phytoplankton community was significantly correlated with WT, DO, NH4+-N, TN, TP, and Chlorophyll a. Variance partitioning analysis indicated that seasonal factors accounted for a large proportion of the variation in the eukaryotic phytoplankton community, reaching 48.4%. Subsequently, co-occurrence network analysis demonstrated that most families of eukaryotic phytoplankton were facilitated mutually, with the proportion of promotion being 94.1%. This study provides insight into the crucial factors that influence the phytoplankton communities and a reasonable control direction for the positive evolution of the eukaryotic phytoplankton community in the western half of Chaohu Lake.

There is a growing interest in the use of pyrolysis plants for the conversion of solid waste into useful products (e.g., oil, gas, and char) and the analysis of air-polluting emissions associated with such a process is an emerging research field. This study applied a systematic mapping approach to collating, describing, and cataloging available evidence related to the type and level of air pollutants emitted from pyrolysis plants, the factors affecting emissions, and available mitigation strategies that can be adopted to reduce air pollution. The scientific literature indexed in Scopus and Google Scholar, as well as available industry reports, was interrogated to document the evidence. A database comprising 63 studies was synthesized and cataloged from which 25 air pollutants from pyrolysis plants were considered, including volatile organic compounds and persistent organic pollutants. Air pollutant levels varied depending on the scale of the pyrolysis plants, their operating conditions, and the feedstock used. Various technologies, such as wet scrubbers, electrostatic precipitators, and baghouse filters, are available and have been utilized to reduce emissions and comply with the existing EU regulations for waste incineration (2010/75/EU). The systematic mapping identified several knowledge gaps that need to be addressed to inform relevant environmental policymaking, technology development, and the adoption of best practices for the mitigation of emissions from pyrolysis plants.

Backgrounds and Aims: Patients with cirrhosis are susceptible to sepsis and septic shock. Cirrhotic patients also have increased capillary permeability and are prone to developing volume overload. Patients with septic shock may have an enhanced pulmonary vascular permeability index (PVPI) and extravascular lung water index (EVLWI), both of which are associated with an unfavorable prognosis. It is plausible that pre-existing hyperpermeability may deteriorate when cirrhotic patients develop septic shock. However, it remains unknown whether PVPI and EVLWI can predict the prognosis of cirrhotic patients with septic shock. Pulse Indicator Continuous Cardiac Output (PiCCO) is an established tool to measure PVPI and EVLWI. Therefore, we conducted this retrospective study to investigate the prognostic significance of PVPI and EVLWI in cirrhotic patients with septic shock using PiCCO monitoring. Methods: We included 83 patients with liver cirrhosis and septic shock. EVLW indexed to actual body weight (aEVLWI), EVLW indexed to predicted body weight (pEVLWI), PVPI, disease severity scores, and other biomarkers were analyzed. We collected the PiCCO data on the first 2 days. Results: The overall 28-day mortality was 43.4%. The values of PVPI, aEVLWI, and pEVLWI on day 2 (PVPID2, aEVLWID2, EVLWID2) were significantly higher in non-survivors. The discriminating power of PVPID2 and EVLWID2 to predict 28-day mortality was tested using the area under a ROC curve. The areas under ROC curves (mean ± SEM) were 0.713 ± 0.061 and 0.650 ± 0.063 for PVPID2 and pEVLWID2. In the multivariate analysis, PVPID2, bilirubin, and lactate were independent factors which predicted 28-day mortality. Conclusions: Higher levels of PVPID2 and pEVLWID2 are associated with higher 28-day mortality rates in cirrhotic patients with septic shock. PVPI and pEVLWI may be useful to guide fluid management in this clinical setting.

In order to accurately extract and match carbon emission factors from the Chinese textual building materials list and construct a precise carbon emission factor database, it is crucial to accurately classify the textual building materials. In this study, a novel classification model based on text data enhancement and semantic feature extraction is proposed and applied for building materials classification. Firstly, the explanatory information on the building materials is collected and normalized to construct the original dataset. Then, the Latent Dirichlet Allocation and statistical-language-model-based hybrid ensemble data enhancement methods are explained in detail, and the semantic features closely related to the carbon emission factor are extracted by constructed composite convolutional networks and the transformed word vectors. Finally, the ensemble classification model is designed, constructed, and applied to match the carbon emission factor from the textual building materials. The experimental results show that the proposed model improves the F1Macro score by 4–12% compared to traditional machine learning and deep learning models.

Jingzhi Guanxin Oral Liquids (JZGX), a traditional Chinese medicine formulation prepared from the decoction of five herbs, has been utilized to relieve chest pain with coronary artery disease (CAD). However, the chemical composition and therapeutic mechanisms of JZGX remain obscured. In this research, the potential targets and pathways of JZGX against CAD were anticipated through network pharmacology based on analyzing its chemical constituents using UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS. One hundred seven ingredients in JZGX were identified. The 39 active chemicals and 37 key targets were screened, and CAD-related signaling pathways were clustered, mainly associated with lipid metabolism. Subsequently, the atherosclerotic CAD animal model employing 24 weeks of high-fat diet (HFD) ApoE−/− mice was constructed to investigate the JZGX efficacy and underlying mechanisms validating network forecasts. The histological staining examination and cardiovascular biomarker tests confirmed that JZGX reduced plaque formation in the aorta and decreased blood lipids in vivo. It featured anti-inflammatory, anti-thrombotic, and myocardial protective effects. JZGX prevented excessive lipid deposits and inflammation within the liver and exhibited hepatoprotective properties. Serum untargeted metabolomics analysis indicated that JZGX ameliorated metabolic abnormalities in atherosclerotic CAD mice and prompted lipid metabolism, especially linoleic acid. The PPARs and attached critical targets (SREBP1, FASN, PTGS2, and CYP3A), filtered from the networks and connected with lipid metabolism, were dramatically modulated through JZGX administration, as revealed by western blotting. The molecular docking outcomes showed that all 39 active ingredients in JZGX had good binding activity with PPARα and PPARγ. These findings illustrate that JZGX alleviates atherosclerotic CAD progression by remodeling the lipid metabolism and regulating PPAR-related proteins.

The estrogen receptor signaling pathway plays an important role in vertebrate embryonic development and sexual differentiation. There are four major estrogen receptors in zebrafish: esr1, esr2a, esr2b and gper. However, the specific role of different estrogen receptors in zebrafish is not clear. To investigate the role of esr2b in zebrafish development and reproduction, this study utilized TALENs technology to generate an esr2b knockout homozygous zebrafish line. The number of eggs laid by esr2b knockout female zebrafish did not differ significantly from that of wild zebrafish. The embryonic development process of wild-type and esr2b knockout zebrafish was observed, revealing a significant developmental delay in the esr2b knockout zebrafish. Additionally, mortality rates were significantly higher in esr2b knockout zebrafish than in their wild-type counterparts at 24 hpf. The reciprocal cross experiment between esr2b knockout zebrafish and wild-type zebrafish revealed that the absence of esr2b resulted in a decline in the quality of zebrafish oocytes, while having no impact on sperm cells. The knockout of esr2b also led to an abnormal sex ratio in the adult zebrafish population, with a female-to-male ratio of approximately 1:7. The quantitative PCR (qPCR) and in situ hybridization results demonstrated a significant downregulation of cyp19ab1b expression in esr2b knockout embryos compared to wild-type embryos throughout development (at 2 dpf, 3 dpf and 4 dpf). Additionally, the estrogen-mediated induction expression of cyp19ab1b was attenuated, while the estradiol-induced upregulated expression of vtg1 was disrupted. These results suggest that esr2b is involved in regulating zebrafish oocyte development and sex differentiation.

Atherosclerosis is the main pathological basis of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Fufang Danshen Tablet (FDT) is a traditional Chinese medicine that has been clinically used to treat CVDs for more than 40 years. Nevertheless, owing to the complexity of the ingredients, the pharmacological mechanism of FDT in the treatment of CVDs has not been fully elucidated. In this study, an integrated strategy of UFLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS, network pharmacology, molecular biology, and transcriptomics was used to elucidate the mechanisms of action of FDT in the treatment of atherosclerosis. In total, 22 absorbed constituents were identified in rat serum after oral administration of FDT. In silico, network pharmacology studies have shown that FDT regulates four key biological functional modules for the treatment of atherosclerosis: oxidative stress, cell apoptosis, energy metabolism, and immune/inflammation. In animal experiments, FDT exerted protective effects against atherosclerosis by reducing the plaque area and lipid levels in ApoE−/− mice. Furthermore, we found that FDT inhibited inflammatory macrophage accumulation by regulating the expression of Selp and Ccl2, which are both involved in monocyte adhesion and migration. The inhibition of monocyte recruitment by FDT is a new perspective to elucidate the anti-atherosclerotic mechanism of FDT, which has not been adopted in previous studies on FDT. Our results may help to elucidate the therapeutic mechanism of FDT against CVDs and provide potential therapeutic targets.

Xiaochaihu granules (XCHG) are extensively used to treat fever. Nevertheless, the underlying mechanism remains elusive. This study aimed to explore the potential of XCHG in mitigating yeast-induced fever and the underlying metabolic pathways. The chemical composition of XCHG was ascertained using ultra-fast liquid chromatography/quadrupole-time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry (UFLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS), followed by integrated network analysis to predict potential targets. We then conducted experimental validation using pharmacological assays and metabolomics analysis in a yeast-induced mouse fever model. The study identified 133 compounds in XCHG, resulting in the development of a comprehensive network of herb–compound–biological functional modules. Subsequently, molecular dynamic (MD) simulations confirmed the stability of the complexes, including γ-aminobutyric acid B receptor 2 (GABBR2)–saikosaponin C, prostaglandin endoperoxide synthases (PTGS2)–lobetyolin, and NF-κB inhibitor IκBα (NFKBIA)–glycyrrhizic acid. Animal experiments demonstrated that XCHG reduced yeast-induced elevation in NFKBIA’s downstream regulators [interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-8], inhibited PTGS2 activity, and consequently decreased prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) levels. XCHG also downregulated the levels of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), corticotropin releasing hormone (CRH), and adrenocorticotrophin (ACTH). These corroborated the network analysis results indicating XCHG’s effectiveness against fever in targeting NFKBIA, PTGS2, and GABBR2. The hypothalamus metabolomics analysis identified 14 distinct metabolites as potential antipyretic biomarkers of XCHG. In conclusion, our findings suggest that XCHG alleviates yeast-induced fever by regulating inflammation/immune responses, neuromodulation, and metabolism modules, providing a scientific basis for the anti-inflammatory and antipyretic properties of XCHG.

We propose and demonstrate a Mach–Zehnder Interferometer (MZI)-based optical neural network (ONN) to classify and regenerate a four-level pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM4) signal with high inter-symbol interference (ISI) generated experimentally by a silicon microing modulator (SiMRM). The proposed ONN has a multiple MZI configuration achieving a transmission matrix that resembles a fully connected (FC) layer in a neural network. The PAM4 signals at data rates from 160 Gbit/s to 240 Gbit/s (i.e., 80 GBaud to 120 GBaud) were experimentally generated by a SiMRM. As the SiMRM has a limited 3-dB modulation bandwidth of ~67 GHz, the generated PAM4 optical signal suffers from severe ISI. The results show that soft-decision (SD) forward-error-correction (FEC) requirement (i.e., bit error rate, BER < 2.4 × 10−2) can be achieved at 200 Gbit/s transmission, and the proposed ONN has nearly the same performance as an artificial neural network (ANN) implemented using traditional computer simulation.

The rapid increase in electric vehicles (EVs) has led to a continuous expansion of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, imposing significant load pressures on the power grid. Implementing orderly charging scheduling for EVs can mitigate the impact of large-scale charging on the power grid. However, the charging behavior of EVs significantly impacts the efficiency of orderly charging plans. By integrating user portrait technology and conducting research on optimized scheduling for EV charging, EV users can be accurately classified to meet the diverse needs of various user groups. This study establishes a user portrait model suitable for park areas, providing user group classification based on the user response potential for scheduling optimization. First, the FCM and feature aggregation methods are utilized to classify the quantities of features of EV users, obtaining user portrait classes. Second, based on these classes, a user portrait inventory for each EV is derived. Third, based on the priority of user response potential, this study presents a method for calculating the feature data of different user groups. The individual data information and priorities from the user portrait model are inputted into the EV-optimized scheduling model. The optimization focuses on the user charging cost and load fluctuation, with the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II utilized to obtain the solutions. The results demonstrate that the proposed strategy effectively addresses the matching issue between the EV user response potential and optimal scheduling modes without compromising the normal use of EVs by users. This classification approach facilitates the easier acceptance of scheduling tasks by participating users, leading to optimized outcomes that better meet practical requirements.

Accurate prediction of individual tree mortality is essential for informed decision making in forestry. In this study, we proposed machine learning models to forecast individual tree mortality within the temperate Larix gmelinii var. principis-rupprechtii forests in Northern China. Eight distinct machine learning techniques including random forest, logistic regression, artificial neural network, generalized additive model, support vector machine, gradient boosting machine, k-nearest neighbors, and naive Bayes models were employed, to construct an ensemble learning model based on comprehensive dataset from this specific ecosystem. The random forest model emerged as the most accurate, demonstrating 92.9% accuracy and 92.8% sensitivity, making it the best model among those tested. We identified key variables impacting tree mortality, and the results showed that a basal area larger than the target trees (BAL), a diameter at 130 cm (DBH), a basal area (BA), an elevation, a slope, NH4-N, soil moisture, crown density, and the soil’s available phosphorus are important variables in the Larix Principis-rupprechtii individual mortality model. The variable importance calculation results showed that BAL is the most important variable with an importance value of 1.0 in a random forest individual tree mortality model. By analyzing the complex relationships of individual tree factors, stand factors, environmental, and soil factors, our model aids in decision making for temperate Larix gmelinii var. principis-rupprechtii forest conservation.

miR-129 plays a crucial role in regulating various cellular processes, including adipogenesis; however, its downstream molecular mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we demonstrated that miR-129 promotes yak adipogenesis in vitro via the PI3K/AKT pathway. Overexpression and interference of miR-129 in yak intramuscular preadipocytes (YIMAs) enhanced and inhibited cell differentiation, respectively, with corresponding changes in cell proliferation. Further investigation revealed that miR-129 enhances AKT and p-AKT activity in the AKT pathway without affecting cell apoptosis, and a specific inhibitor (LY294002) was used to confirm that miR-129 regulates YIMAs proliferation and differentiation through the PI3K/AKT pathway. Our findings suggest that miR-129 promotes yak adipogenesis by enhancing PI3K/AKT pathway activity. This study provides the foundation to precisely elucidate the molecular mechanism of miR-129 in YIMAs adipogenesis and develop advanced miRNA-based strategies to improve meat nutrition and obesity-related ailments in beef production.

Kinetic chains (KCs) are primarily affected by the load of different activities that recruit muscles from different regions. We explored the effects of strengthening exercises on KCs through muscle activation. Four databases were searched from 1990 to 2019. The muscles of each KC, their surface electromyography (sEMG), and the exercises conducted were reported. We found 36 studies that presented muscle activation using the percent (%) maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) or average sEMG for nine KCs in different regions. The % MVIC is presented as the following four categories: low (≤20%), moderate (21~40%), high (41~60%), and very high (>60%). Only four studies mentioned muscle activation in more than three KCs, while the remaining studies reported inconsistent sEMG processing, lacked normalization, and muscle activation in one or two KCs. The roles of stabilizers and the base of support in overhead throwing mobility using balance exercises were examined, and the concentric phase of chin-up and lat pull-down activated the entire KC by recruiting multiple muscles. Also, deep-water running was shown to prevent the risk of falls and enhance balance and stability. In addition, low-load trunk rotations improved the muscles of the back and external oblique activation. Based on this study’s findings, closed-chain exercises activate more groups of muscles in a kinetic chain than open-chain exercises. However, no closed or open chain exercise can activate optimal KCs.

Hydroxy-α-sanshool (HAS) is the predominant active compound in Zanthoxylum bungeanum Maxim (ZBM). Our present work was aimed to explore the in vitro metabolism characteristics, and in vivo pharmacokinetic (PK) profile of HAS. Plasma (human), liver microsomes, and hepatocytes (human, monkey, dog, mouse, and rat) were collected for HAS metabolism studies in vitro and HAS elimination rates in liver microsomes and hepatocytes of different species were investigated. In addition, five recombinant human CYP enzymes were used to identify CYP isoforms of HAS. Finally, the PK properties of HAS in rats in vivo were studied by oral administration (p.o.). The results showed that HAS stably metabolized in human and rat liver microsomes and human hepatocytes, and the binding of HAS to human plasma proteins was nonspecific; HAS has strong inhibitory effects on CYP2C9 and CYP2D6 of human liver microsomes. In addition, in vivo PK study, HAS is rapidly absorbed in rats after oral administration. In conclusion, the in vivo and in vitro metabolic studies of HAS in this study provide data support for its further development and application, and the metabolic profiles of different species can be used as a reference for its safety evaluation.

Glucosamine hydrochloride (GAH) is a natural component of glycoproteins present in almost all human tissues and participates in the construction of human tissues and cell membranes. GAH has a wide range of biological activities, particularly in anti-inflammatory and osteogenic damage repair. At present, little is known about how GAH functions in angiogenesis. To determine the role of GAH on vascular development and impairment repair, we used the inhibitors VRI, DMH1, and dorsomorphin (DM) to construct vascular-impaired models in Tg(kdrl: mCherry) transgenic zebrafish. We then treated with GAH and measured its repair effects on vascular impairment through fluorescence intensity, mRNA, and protein expression levels of vascular-specific markers. Our results indicate that GAH promotes vascular development and repairs impairment by regulating the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) signaling pathway through modulation of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling. This study provides an experimental basis for the development of GAH as a drug to repair vascular diseases.

The non-uniformity of microstructures and mechanical properties across a whole welded joint is a crucial factor leading to its weakening performance and premature failure. Post-weld heat treatment is a primary method for increasing the mechanical properties. However, the evolution mechanism of mechanical properties related to heterogeneous microstructure after heat treatment remains unclear, making it challenging to design the heat treatment process and evaluate its effect comprehensively. In this study, microstructure characterization and a series of mechanical tests of 12Cr1MoV welded joint after the stress relief annealing (SRA) and tempering heat treatment (THT) were conducted. The effect of heat treatment on mechanical properties is analyzed based on the comparison between stress relief annealing and tempering heat treatment in terms of tensile properties, impact toughness, and impact fracture morphology. The results indicate that, after the tempering heat treatment, the evolution of mechanical properties in each subzone of the joint is consistent, i.e., the hardness and tensile strength decreased while the toughness increased. Notably, the most substantial enhancement in toughness is observed in the weld zone, primarily due to a significant reduction in the presence of pre-eutectoid ferrite. Furthermore, it is proved that hardness is an indicator to reflect changes in tensile strength related to the microstructure evolution, which indicates it can be employed to evaluate the effectiveness of post-weld heat treatment in practical engineering.

Background: We aim to study the association between spasticity and active range of motion (ROM) during four repetitive functional tasks such as cone stacking (CS), fast flexion–extension (FFE), fast ball squeezing (FBS), and slow ball squeezing (SBS), and predicted spasticity models. Methods: An experimental study with control and stroke groups was conducted in a Medical Center. A total of sixty-four participants, including healthy control (n = 22; average age (years) = 54.68 ± 9.63; male/female = 12/10) and chronic stroke survivors (n = 42; average age = 56.83 ± 11.74; male/female = 32/10) were recruited. We employed a previously developed smart glove device mounted with multiple inertial measurement unit (IMU) sensors on the upper limbs of healthy and chronic stroke individuals. The recorded ROMs were used to predict subjective spasticity through generalized estimating equations (GEE) for the affected side. Results: The models have significant (p ≤ 0.05 *) prediction of spasticity for the elbow, thumb, index, middle, ring, and little fingers. Overall, during SBS and FFE activities, the maximum number of upper limb joints attained the greater average ROMs. For large joints, the elbow during CS and the wrist during FFE have the highest average ROMs, but smaller joints and the wrist have covered the highest average ROMs during FFE, FBS, and SBS activities. Conclusions: Thus, it is concluded that CS can be used for spasticity assessment of the elbow, FFE for the wrist, and SBS, FFE, and FBS activities for the thumb and finger joints in chronic stroke survivors.

With the widespread recognition of underground salt cavern compressed air storage at home and abroad, how to choose and evaluate salt cavern resources has become a key issue in the construction of gas storage. This paper discussed the condition of building power plants, the collection of regional data and salt plant data, and the analysis of stability and tightness. Comprehensive analysis and evaluation methods were put forward from four aspects, including ground comprehensive conditions, regional geological conditions and formation lithology, salt mine characteristics, stability, and tightness of salt caverns. The limit equilibrium theory was applied to establish the limit equilibrium failure mode of salt caverns under operating pressure, and the stability coefficient calculation method of the target salt cavern was determined by combining the mechanical characteristics. Based on the physical and mechanical properties of salt rocks, it was found that salt rocks with enough thickness around the salt cavity could be used as sealing rings to ensure the tightness of the salt cavern. Combined with the field water sealing test, the tightness of the target salt cavern is verified. This method has been applied to the salt cavern screening and evaluation of a 300 MW compressed air energy storage power plant project in Yingcheng, Hubei Province, and remarkable results have been obtained, indicating the rationality of the method.

Chlorpyrifos has been used extensively for decades to control crop pests and disease-transmitting insects; its contribution to increasing food security and minimizing the spread of diseases has been well documented. Pymetrozine and Avermectin (also known as abamectin) have been used to replace the toxic organophosphate insecticides (e.g., Chlorpyrifos) applied to rice crops in China, where the overuse of pesticides has occurred. In addition, climate change has exacerbated pesticide use and pollution. Thus, farmers and communities are at risk of exposure to pesticide pollution. This study reviews the contamination, exposure, and health risks through environmental and biological monitoring of the legacy pesticide Chlorpyrifos and currently used insecticides Pymetrozine and Avermectin in China; it investigates whether changes in pesticide usage from Chlorpyrifos to Pymetrozine and Avermectin reduce pesticide contamination and health hazards to communities and residents. In addition, this review discusses whether Pymetrozine and Avermectin applications could be recommended in other countries where farmers largely use Chlorpyrifos and are exposed to high health risks under climate change scenarios. Although Chlorpyrifos is now banned in China, farmers and residents exposed to Chlorpyrifos are still experiencing adverse health effects. Local farmers still consider Chlorpyrifos an effective pesticide and continue to use it illegally in some areas. As a result, the concentration levels of Chlorpyrifos still exceed risk-based thresholds, and the occurrence of Chlorpyrifos with high toxicity in multiple environmental routes causes serious health effects owing to its long-term and wide application. The bioaccumulation of the currently used insecticides Pymetrozine and Avermectin in the environment is unlikely. Pymetrozine and Avermectin used in paddy water and soil for crop growth do not pose a significant hazard to public health. A change in pesticide use from Chlorpyrifos to Pymetrozine and Avermectin can reduce the pesticide contamination of the environment and health hazards to communities and residents. Finally, we recommend Pymetrozine and Avermectin in other countries, such as Vietnam, and countries in Africa, such as Ghana, where farmers still largely use Chlorpyrifos.

An unusually persistent and heavy rainfall event occurred in Hainan Island from 1 to 9 October 2010, in association with one extended tropical depression (TD) over the South China Sea (SCS). Based on rain-gauge precipitation, satellite altimetry, in situ Argo profile, air–sea enthalpy flux, and reanalysis data, this study investigates the impact of warm ocean anomalies in the SCS on the formation and intensification of the extended TD, and their reinforcing effect on TD-related heavy rainfall. The TD intensified and migrated northward to the vicinity of Hainan Island. A thicker-than-normal warm subsurface layer that was present beneath the positive sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies contained a sufficient upper-ocean heat content to effectively restrain the TD’s self-induced SST cooling effect, and available enthalpy fluxes were therefore sufficient to support the maintenance of the TD. The composite analyses confirm the reinforcing effect of warm oceanic anomalies in the central SCS off the south-central coast of Vietnam on heavy rainfall in Hainan Island, with the composite precipitation of “Warm eddy” cases being significantly larger in Hainan Island and northern Vietnam than that of the “Normal” cases, using reanalysis and remote sensing precipitation data over 29 years (1993–2021).

Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) overexpression significantly inhibits lipid deposition during yak intramuscular preadipocyte (YIMA) differentiation; however, the regulatory mechanism remains unknown. We elucidated the role of SIRT1 in YIMA differentiation using lentivirus-mediated downregulation technology and conducted mRNA-seq and ChIP-seq assays using H3K9ac antibodies after SIRT1 overexpression in order to reveal SIRT1 targets during YIMA adipogenesis. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analyses were performed in order to identify the functional annotation of common genes. In addition, a potential target of SIRT1 was selected to verify its effects on the differentiation and proliferation of YIMAs. SIRT1 interfered with lipid deposition and promoted YIMA differentiation. In total, 143,518 specific peaks were identified after SIRT1 overexpression, where genes associated with downregulation peaks were enriched in transcription, gene expression, lipid-related processes, and classical lipid-related pathways. The H3K9ac signal in the whole genome promoter region (2 kb upstream and downstream of the transcription start site (TSS)) was weakened, and the peaks were distributed across all gene functional regions. Genes that lost signals in their TSS region or gene body region were enriched in both biological processes and pathways associated with lipogenesis. The ChIP-seq results revealed 714 common differential genes in mRNA-seq, which were enriched in “MAPK signaling”, “lipid and atherosclerosis”, “mTOR signaling”, and “FoxO signaling” pathways. A total of 445 genes were downregulated in both their H3K9ac signals and mRNA expression, and one of their most significantly enriched pathways was FoxO signaling. Nine genes (FBP2, FPGT, HSD17B11, KCNJ15, MAP3K20, SLC5A3, TRIM23, ZCCHC10, and ZMYM1) lost the H3K9ac signal in their TSS regions and had low mRNA expression, and three genes (KCNJ15, TGM3, and TRIM54) had low expression but lost their H3K9ac signal in the gene body region. The interference of TRIM23 significantly inhibited fat deposition during preadipocyte differentiation and promoted cell proliferation by increasing S-phase cell numbers. The present study provides new insights into the molecular mechanism of intramuscular fat content deposition and the epigenetic role of SIRT1 in adipocyte differentiation.

Online health communities (OHCs) are a common and highly frequented health resource. To create safer resources online, we must know how users think of credibility in these spaces. To understand how new visitors may use cues present within the OHC to establish source credibility, we conducted an online experiment (n = 373) manipulating cues for perceptions of two primary dimensions of credibility—trustworthiness and expertise—by manipulating the presence of endorsement cues (i.e., likes) and of moderators’ health credentials (i.e., medical professional) using a fake OHC. Participants were predominantly male (60.4%) and Caucasian (74.1%). Our findings showed that moderators with health credentials had an effect on both dimensions of source credibility in OHCs, however, likes did not. We also observed a correlation between the perceived social support within the community and both dimensions of source credibility, underscoring the value of supportive online health communities. Our findings can help developers ascertain areas of focus within their communities and users with how perceptions of credibility could help or hinder their own assessments of OHC credibility.

This two-consecutive-year study aimed to evaluate the effects of ground management methods on the volatomics of ‘Cabernet Sauvignon’ grapes and wines in Northwest China, in which inner-row crop covering with purslane (GRASS) and mulching with black plastic film (FILM) treatments were carried out, respectively. Compared with clean tillage (CK), the GRASS and FILM treatments changed the microclimates of grapevine fruit zones and rhizospheres, which delayed the ripening of grape berries and affected the accumulation of aroma substances in the mature grapes effectively. GRASS increased the concentration of terpenes and C13-norisoprenoids in berries and gave more floral, fruity, and caramel fragrances to wines, while FILM had the opposite effect of significantly increasing the synthesis of C6/C9 compounds and brought more green leaf flavors, showing that inner-row purslane covering is a potential and stable viticultural practice to improve the wine quality in this booming wine region.

Plasmonic metal nanostructures have promising applications in biosensing due to their ability to facilitate light–matter interaction. However, the damping of noble metal leads to a wide full width at half maximum (FWHM) spectrum which restricts sensing capabilities. Herein, we present a novel non-full-metal nanostructure sensor, namely indium tin oxide (ITO)–Au nanodisk arrays consisting of periodic arrays of ITO nanodisk arrays and a continuous gold substrate. A narrow-band spectral feature under normal incidence emerges in the visible region, corresponding to the mode-coupling of surface plasmon modes, which are excited by lattice resonance at metal interfaces with magnetic resonance mode. The FWHM of our proposed nanostructure is barely 14 nm, which is one fifth of that of full-metal nanodisk arrays, and effectively improves the sensing performance. Furthermore, the thickness variation of nanodisks hardly affects the sensing performance of this ITO-based nanostructure, ensuring excellent tolerance during preparation. We fabricate the sensor ship using template transfer and vacuum deposition techniques to achieve large-area and low-cost nanostructure preparation. The sensing performance is used to detect immunoglobulin G (IgG) protein molecules, promoting the widespread application of plasmonic nanostructures in label-free biomedical studies and point-of-care diagnostics. The introduction of dielectric materials effectively reduces FWHM, but sacrifices sensitivity. Therefore, utilizing structural configurations or introducing other materials to generate mode-coupling and hybridization is an effective way to provide local field enhancement and effective regulation.

Describing travel patterns and identifying significant locations is a crucial area of research in transportation geography and social dynamics. Our study aims to contribute to this field by analyzing taxi trip data from Chengdu and New York City. Specifically, we investigate the probability density distribution of trip distance in each city, which enables us to construct long- and short-distance trip networks. To identify critical nodes within these networks, we employ the PageRank algorithm and categorize them using centrality and participation indices. Furthermore, we explore the factors that contribute to their influence and observe a clear hierarchical multi-centre structure in Chengdu’s trip networks, while no such phenomenon is evident in New York City’s. Our study provides insight into the impact of trip distance on important nodes within trip networks in both cities and serves as a reference for distinguishing between long and short taxi trips. Our findings also reveal substantial differences in network structures between the two cities, highlighting the nuanced relationship between network structure and socio-economic factors. Ultimately, our research sheds light on the underlying mechanisms shaping transportation networks in urban areas and offers valuable insights into urban planning and policy making.

Yaks have evolved several breeds or genetic resources owing to their geographical and ecological environment, and investigating the genetic construction of body size among breeds is key for breeding. Here, a genome-wide association study (GWAS) was performed for five body size traits in 31 yak breeds and genetic resources. The information from clustering individuals according to their habitats was used for kinship grouping in the compressed mixed linear model (CMLM). We named this approach the pCMLM method. A total of 3,584,464 high-quality single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were obtained, and six markers were found to be significantly associated with height by pCMLM. Four candidate genes, including FXYD6, SOHLH2, ADGRB2, and OSBPL6, were identified. Our results show that when CMLM cannot identify optimal clustering groups, pCMLM can provide sufficient associated results based on population information. Moreover, this study provides basic information on the gene localization of quantitative traits of body size among yak breeds.

Fiber-optic surface plasmon resonance (FOSPR) sensing technology has become an appealing candidate in biochemical sensing applications due to its distinguished capability of remote and point-of-care detection. However, FOSPR sensing devices with a flat plasmonic film on the optical fiber tip are seldom proposed with most reports concentrating on fiber sidewalls. In this paper, we propose and experimentally demonstrate the plasmonic coupled structure of a gold (Au) nanodisk array and a thin film integrated into the fiber facet, enabling the excitation of the plasmon mode on the planar gold film by strong coupling. This plasmonic fiber sensor is fabricated by the ultraviolet (UV) curing adhesive transferring technology from a planar substrate to a fiber facet. The experimental results demonstrate that the fabricated sensing probe has a bulk refractive index sensitivity of 137.28 nm/RIU and exhibits moderate surface sensitivity by measuring the spatial localization of its excited plasmon mode on Au film by layer-by-layer self-assembly technology. Furthermore, the fabricated plasmonic sensing probe enables the detection of bovine serum albumin (BSA) biomolecule with a detection limit of 19.35 μM. The demonstrated fiber probe here provides a potential strategy to integrate plasmonic nanostructure on the fiber facet with excellent sensing performance, which has a unique application prospect in the detection of remote, in situ, and in vivo invasion.

After a stroke, sustained gait impairment can restrict participation in the activities listed in the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health model and cause poor quality of life. The present study investigated the effectiveness of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) and visual feedback training (VF) training in improving lower limb motor performance, gait, and corticospinal excitability in patients with chronic stroke. Thirty patients were randomized into three groups that received either rTMS or sham stimulation over the contralesional leg region accompanied by VF training groups in addition to the conventional rehabilitation group. All participants underwent intervention sessions three times per week for four weeks. Outcome measures included the motor-evoked potential (MEP) of the anterior tibialis muscle, Berg Balance Scale (BBS) scores, Timed Up and Go (TUG) test scores, and Fugl–Meyer Assessment of Lower Extremity scores. After the intervention, the rTMS and VF group had significantly improved in MEP latency (p = 0.011), TUG scores (p = 0.008), and BBS scores (p = 0.011). The sham rTMS and VF group had improved MEP latency (p = 0.027). The rTMS and VF training may enhance the cortical excitability and walking ability of individuals with chronic stroke. The potential benefits encourage a larger trial to determine the efficacy in stroke patients.

The Paleoproterozoic Khondalite Belt, located in the northwestern segment of North China Craton (NCC), is characterized by widespread high-temperature/ultrahigh-temperature (UHT) granulite/gneiss and large-scale magmatic activity. The tectonic evolution is still controversial. Here, we report new geochronological, elemental, and Hf-O-Sr-Nd isotopic data for a Paleoproterozoic layered complex in the Jining terrane to constrain the tectonic evolution of the Khondalite Belt. In situ zircon U-Pb dating indicates that the Sanchakou gabbros were emplaced between ~1.94 Ga and ~1.82 Ga, which might be the heat source of UHT metamorphism. The elemental and Hf-O-Sr-Nd isotopic analysis shows that the formation of Sanchakou gabbros is consistent with the assimilation and fractional crystallization (AFC) process. The magma originates from the 10%~20% partial melting of the spinel + garnet lherzolite mantle. The Sanchakou gabbros are magmatic crystallization products mixed with crustal wallrocks in the magma chamber. We have established a tectonic evolution model involving asthenosphere upwelling after the amalgamation of the Ordos and Yinshan Blocks at ~1.95 Ga.

In order to study the corrosion time-varying law and fatigue properties of high-strength steel strands used for marine environment structures, the accelerated corrosion test of steel strands was carried out by using a climate simulation chamber, and samples with different corrosion times were taken out for mass weighing, morphology observation, and fatigue testing. Steel strand specimens with different corrosion times (from 1 month to 14 years) for use in the real marine environment were developed in an indoor climate simulation test chamber. The average mass corrosion ratio curve of the steel strands in the marine environment and the changes in the corrosion pit size over time were obtained by performing data analysis based on weight and appearance. The time-varying rule of the fatigue life of coastal-structure steel strands was determined by conducting a fatigue test and fracture scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis of steel strands with different corrosion degrees. The results of the experimental study show that the mass corrosion rate and pit size of steel strands change with the service time as a piecewise function, fatigue performance changes with the service time is as an exponential function, and fatigue performance changes with the mass corrosion ratio are similar to a linear function. Furthermore, the corrosion pit has a significant impact on the fatigue life of the steel strand.

In the current work, the effects of steam and boiling water blanching on the drying characteristics, water distribution, microstructure, and contents of bioactive substances of Gastrodia elata (G. elata) were explored. Results showed that the degree of steaming and blanching was related to the core temperature of G. elata. The steaming and blanching pretreatment increased the drying time of the samples by more than 50%. The low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (LF-NMR) of treated samples showed that the relaxation time corresponded to water molecule states (bound, immobilized, and free) and G. elata became shorter, which indicated a reduction in free moisture and increased resistance of water diffusion in the solid structure during drying. Hydrolysis of polysaccharides and gelatinization of starch granules was observed in the microstructure of treated samples, which was consistent with changes in water status and drying rates. Steaming and blanching increased gastrodin and crude polysaccharide contents and decreased p-hydroxybenzyl alcohol content. These findings will contribute to a better understanding of the effect of steaming and blanching on the drying behavior and quality attributes of G. elata.

Due to the popularity of different high bandwidth applications, it is becoming increasingly difficult to satisfy the huge data capacity requirements, since the traditional electrical interconnects suffer significantly from limited bandwidth and huge power consumption. Silicon photonics (SiPh) is one of the important technologies for increasing interconnect capacity and decreasing power consumption. Mode-division multiplexing (MDM) allows signals to be transmitted simultaneously, at different modes, in a single waveguide. Wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM), non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and orthogonal-frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) can also be utilized to further increase the optical interconnect capacity. In SiPh integrated circuits, waveguide bends are usually inevitable. However, for an MDM system with a multimode bus waveguide, the modal fields will become asymmetric when the waveguide bend is sharp. This will introduce inter-mode coupling and inter-mode crosstalk. One simple approach to achieve sharp bends in multimode bus waveguide is to use a Euler curve. Although it has been reported in the literature that sharp bends based on a Euler curve allow high performance and low inter-mode crosstalk multimode transmissions, we discover, by simulation and experiment, that the transmission performance between two Euler bends is length dependent, particularly when the bends are sharp. We investigate the length dependency of the straight multimode bus waveguide between two Euler bends. High transmission performance can be achieved by a proper design of the waveguide length, width, and bend radius. By using the optimized MDM bus waveguide length with sharp Euler bends, proof-of-concept NOMA-OFDM experimental transmissions, supporting two MDM modes and two NOMA users, are performed.

Ship locks on mountain rivers usually experience difficulties owing to harsh flow conditions such as strong oblique flow and backflow, which significantly affect navigation safety and efficiency. To improve navigation conditions, a structural measure involving pile-foundation permeable dislocation-type diversion vanes, a new type of diversion structure, is proposed by analyzing the features and working mechanisms of the existing diversion structures. Based on a typical mountain ship lock—the Wuqiangxi Lock—model tests including various schemes were conducted to investigate the effects of the new diversion structure. The new diversion structure obtained better results than other existing diversion structures, particularly in terms of reducing the transverse flow velocity extremums. By controlling the diversion volume, stabilizing the deflection angle, and dissipating the flow energy, the new diversion structure could effectively weaken the oblique flow intensity at the entrance area. In addition, comparisons of its cost efficiency with that of a hybrid measure combining riverbed dredging and diversion piers was carried out. Moreover, its performance of practical application in the reconstruction project of the Wuqiangxi Lock was demonstrated. Based on the investigation presented herein, the new diversion structure is a promising approach for improving flow conditions at the entrance area of the lock approach.

Real-time monitoring of large marine structures’ health, including drilling platforms, submarine pipelines, dams, and ship hulls, is greatly needed. Among the various kinds of monitoring methods, optical fiber sensors (OFS) have gained a lot of concerns and showed several distinct advantages, such as small size, high flexibility and durability, anti-electromagnetic interference, and high transmission rate. In this paper, three types of OFS used for marine structural health monitoring (SHM), including point sensing, quasi-distributed sensing, and distributed sensing, are reviewed. Emphases are given to the applicability of each type of the sensors by analyzing the operating principles and characteristics of the OFSs. The merits and demerits of different sensing schemes are discussed, as well as the challenges and future developments in OFSs for the marine SHM field.

Sorafenib is the first approved systemic targeting agent for advanced HCC; however, when used alone, drug resistance can result in considerably reduced efficacy. Here, we demonstrate that niclosamide, an antihelminthic agent approved by the US Food and Drug Administration, can be repurposed to increase sorafenib sensitivity in sorafenib-resistant HCC cells. We generated sorafenib-resistant HCC cell lines (HepG2215_R and Hep3B_R) with elevated IGF-1R levels and strong properties in terms of stemness and epithelial–mesenchymal transition. Niclosamide was found to increase sorafenib sensitivity effectively in both cell lines and their organoids. The underlying mechanism involves the modulation of cancer stemness, IGF-1R/p-IGF1R/OCT4, and metabolic changes. The combination of sorafenib and niclosamide, but not linsitinib, effectively suppressed the IGF-1R/OCT4 expressions, yielded a synergistic combination index (CI), and attenuated stemness-related properties such as secondary tumor sphere formation and cell migration in sorafenib-resistant HCC cells. Notably, niclosamide significantly suppressed the sorafenib-induced IGF-1R phosphorylation prompted by IGF-1 treatment. Niclosamide effectively downregulated the sorafenib-induced gene expression associated with glycolysis (GLUT1, HK2, LDHA, and PEPCK), stemness (OCT4), and drug resistance (ABCG2) and enhanced the ability of sorafenib to reduce the mitochondrial membrane potential in vitro. The synergistic effect of a combination of niclosamide and sorafenib in vivo was further demonstrated by the decreased tumor size and tumor volume resulting from apoptosis regulation. Our results suggest that niclosamide can enhance sorafenib sensitivity in sorafenib-resistant HCC cells through IGF-1R/stemness regulation and metabolic changes. Our findings highlight a practical clinical strategy for enhancing sorafenib sensitivity in HCC.

Background: Physical activity is indispensable in the management of chronic kidney disease (CKD). The aim of this study was to investigate gender difference in the association of physical activity with mortality among the CKD population. Methods: In total, 3701 participants with CKD from the 2011 to 2018 NHANES with linked mortality data were classified into different groups based on the intensity of self-reported physical activity. Multivariable-adjusted Cox proportional hazards models were used to examine the associations between physical activity and mortality. Results: During the median follow-up of 53.7 months, 694 all-cause deaths and 226 cardiovascular deaths were recorded. Patients were categorized into extremely highly active (>1500 MET-min/week), highly active (>600, ≤1500 MET-min/week), low-active (>0, ≤600 MET-min/week), or inactive (0 MET-min/week) groups. Among males, the multivariable Cox regression showed that the low-active group (HR, 0.67; 95% CI, 0.48–0.93) and highly active group (HR, 0.60; 95% CI, 0.41–0.88) were independently associated with lower risks for all-cause mortality, compared to the inactive group. The risks of all-cause mortality did not further decrease once physical activity surpassed 1500 MET-min/week, indicating a U-shaped association in males. In females, only the extremely highly active group (>1500 MET-min/week) was significantly associated with a mortality risk compared to inactivity (HR, 0.59; 95% CI, 0.39–0.89). Conclusions: Any amount of physical activity is associated with reduced all-cause mortality in male CKD participants, while in female patients, only the extremely highly active group shows the significant association.

Silicon photonics (SiPh) are considered a promising technology for increasing interconnect speed and capacity while decreasing power consumption. Mode division multiplexing (MDM) enables signals to be transmitted in different orthogonal modes in a single waveguide core. Wideband MDM components simultaneously supporting wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) and orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) can significantly increase the transmission capacity for optical interconnects. In this work, we propose, fabricate and demonstrate a wideband and channel switchable MDM optical power divider on an SOI platform, supporting single, dual and triple modes. The switchable MDM power divider consists of two parts. The first part is a cascaded Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI) for switching the data from their original TE0, TE1 and TE2 modes to different modes among themselves. After the target modes are identified, mode up-conversion and Y-branch are utilized in the second part for the MDM power division. Here, 48 WDM wavelength channels carrying OFDM data are successfully switched and power divided. An aggregated capacity of 7.682 Tbit/s is achieved, satisfying the pre-forward error correction (pre-FEC) threshold (bit-error-rate, BER = 3.8 × 10−3). Although up to three MDM modes are presented in the proof-of-concept demonstration here, the proposed scheme can be scaled to higher order modes operation.

The catalyst loss is one of the main faults that affects the long-term run of an FCC unit. Most catalyst loss faults, namely excessive emissions of the catalyst, are closely related to cyclone separators. The catalyst loss faults of the cyclone separator are usually caused by the abnormal changes in some aspects, such as the operational conditions and equipment performance and integrity, which directly affects the gas–solid separating operation and separation performance. This paper firstly summarized the various catalyst loss faults involving the cyclone separator in the FCC unit. Next, the characteristics of the catalyst loss faults and the main factors in the industrial operations were extracted and analyzed. Then, a stepwise diagnosis approach was proposed to determine the causes and location of catalyst loss faults of the cyclone separator. Finally, an industrial case was introduced in detail to prove the effectiveness of the method based on the sampled data from the commercial FCC unit. It is hopeful to provide a practical approach for the diagnosis and elimination of the catalyst loss fault in the FCC unit.

Aiming to investigate the relationship between pulse pressure (PP) and cognitive decline, cognitively normal subjects from a community-based longitudinal cohort were followed-up for 4 years. The Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) was used to evaluate global cognitive function, and a ≥2-point decrease in the MMSE score from baseline was defined as cognitive decline. Restricted cubic spline, multivariable linear regression and logistic regression were used to investigate the relationship between PP and cognitive decline. A total of 1173 participants completed the follow-up, and 205 (17.5%) met the criteria for cognitive decline. Restricted cubic splines showed no nonlinear relationship between PP and ΔMMSE (Poverall = 0.037, Pnon-linear = 0.289) or cognitive decline (Poverall = 0.003, Pnon-linear = 0.845). Multivariable linear regression analysis showed that PP was positively related to ΔMMSE (b = 0.021, p = 0.020). Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that PP was positively associated with cognitive decline (OR = 1.020, p = 0.023). A stratified analysis found an association between PP and cognitive decline in participants who were aged ≤65 years, male, and APOEε4 noncarriers and who had school education ≤6 years or hypertension. A sensitivity analysis after propensity-score matching did not alter our findings. These findings highlight that elevated PP is associated with rapid cognitive decline, particularly in males, middle-aged, low-educated, hypertensive individuals and APOEε4 noncarriers.

With the development of virtual reality (VR) interaction technology, data glove has become one of the most popular devices for human-computer interaction. It’s valuable to design high-sensitive and flexible sensor for data glove. Therefore, a low-cost data glove based on self-compensating elastic optical fiber sensor with self-calibration function is proposed. The tunable and stretchable elastic fiber was fabricated by a simple, economical and controllable method. The fiber has good flexibility and high stability under stretching, bending and indentation deformation. The optical fibers are installed in the sensor in a U shape with a bending radius of 5 mm. Compared with the straight fiber, the response sensitivity of the U-shaped fiber to deformation is increased by about 7 times at most. The reference optical fiber is connected to the sensor, which effectively improves the stability and accuracy of the sensor system. In addition, the sensors are easy to install so that the data gloves can be customized for different hand shapes. In the gesture capture test, it can respond quickly and guide the manipulator to track the gesture. This responsive and stable data glove has broad development potential in motion monitoring, telemedicine and human-computer interaction.

To investigate the influence law and mechanism of the relative circumferential position of intake struts on the unsteady load and vibration of the first stage rotor, the first 1.5-stage of a heavy-duty gas turbine compressor with intake struts was numerically simulated. The analysis of the flow field and vibration of the rotor blade reveals that the circumferential position of intake struts has little effect on aerodynamic performance but obviously changes the unsteady load and vibration level of the rotor blade. When strut and inlet guide vane wakes coincide, they are strengthened, resulting in the overall enhancement of the unsteady load and vibration on the rotor blade. The circumferential position of struts changes the combined effect of strut wakes and the first stage stator potential flow on the rotor blade, which has an obvious influence on the unsteady load and vibration in the middle chord length but has little influence on the unsteady load near the leading and trailing edges. Research results provide reference and guidance for the installation of struts.

In this paper, a new aromatic diamine monomer 4,4′-(2,6-naphthalenediyl)bis[benzenamine]) (NADA) was synthesized and a series of modified PI films containing naphthalene ring structure obtained by controlling the molar ratio of NADA monomer, ternary polymerization with 4,4′-oxydianiline (ODA), and pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA). The effects of the introduction of the naphthalene ring on the free volume and various properties of PI were investigated by molecular dynamic simulations. The results show that the comprehensive properties of the modified films are all improved to some extent, with 5% thermal weight loss temperature (Td5%) of 569 °C, glass transition temperature (Tg) of 381 °C, tensile strength of 96.41 MPa, and modulus of elasticity of 2.45 GPa. Dielectric property test results show that the dielectric constant (Dk) of the film at 1 MHz is reduced from 3.21 to 2.82 and dielectric loss (Df) reduced from 0.0091 to 0.0065. It is noteworthy that the PI-1 dielectric constant is reduced from 3.26 to 3.01 at 10 GHz with only 5% NADA doping, which is expected to yield the best ratio and provide the possibility of industrial production.

The goal of this study was to determine the metabolism of multiparous female yaks during the late perinatal period and identify its effects on reproductive recovery in order to explain the low reproduction rate of yaks. Eight multiparous female yaks were randomly selected as the sample, and serum was collected from the yaks every 7 days from the day of delivery until 28 days after the delivery (five time points). The presence of serum metabolic profiles and reproductive hormones was identified using ELISA. The key metabolites were identified using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry, and a dynamic metabolic network representation was created using bioinformatics analysis. A total of 117 different metabolites were identified by calculating the fold change of the metabolite expression at each time point. The dynamic metabolic network was created to represent the activities of the key metabolites, metabolic indexes and reproductive hormones. The initial efficiency of the glucose metabolism in the late perinatal period was found to be low, but it increased during the final period. The initial efficiencies of the lipid and amino acid metabolisms were high but decreased during the final period. We inferred that there was a postpartum negative energy balance in female yaks and that the synthesis and secretion of estrogen were blocked due to an excessive fatty acid mobilization. As a result, the reproductive hormone synthesis and secretion were maintained at a low level in the late perinatal period, and this was the main reason for the delayed recovery of the reproductive function postpartum. However, the specific mechanism needs to be further verified.

Monoterpene pyridine alkaloids (MTPAs) are alkaloids derived from iridoid glycosides (IGs). The common molecular structure of MTPAs is the pyridine ring, while some of them have a cyclopenta[c]pyridine skeleton. Some compounds containing this structure are potentially bioactive medicinal agents. In this paper, seven drug candidates (A–G), ninety natural source products (1–90), thirty-seven synthesized compounds (91–127), as well as twenty-six key intermediates (S1–S26) were summarized. We categorized five types of MTPAs and one type of cyclopenta[c]pyridine alkaloids in all. Additionally, their possible genetic pathways were proposed. Then, the chemical transformation, biotransformation, chemical synthesis, as well as the bioactivity of MTPAs and cyclopenta[c]pyridine derivatives were analyzed and summarized. Cyclopenta[c]pyridine derivatives can be concisely and chirally synthesized, and they have shown potentials with antibacterial, insecticidal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, and neuropharmacological activities.
