Late Cretaceous coastal plain deposits of the Prince Creek Formation (PCF) offer a rare glimpse into an ancient, high-latitude, arctic greenhouse ecosystem for which there is no modern analog. Here, we employ quantitative biofacies analysis to explore the spatio-temporal variability in PCF palynomorph and microbiota assemblages from nine paleosol horizons exposed along the Colville River, North Slope, Alaska. Biofacies results provide insight into paleoenvironmental controls on the coastal plain ecosystem. Cluster and ordination analyses recognize five biofacies and the following two assemblage types: (1) fern and moss dominated assemblages and (2) algae dominated assemblages. Ordination arrays biofacies along environmental gradients related to soil moisture and marine influence. Fern and moss dominated biofacies from regularly water-logged paleosols along lake and swamp margins on the lower delta plain clearly segregated from algae dominated assemblages of periodically drier levee-overbank paleosols. These results support previous interpretations from the sedimentology, paleopedology, and geochemistry of PCF paleosols that suggest that fluctuations in the water table, related to seasonal river discharge and variations in topography and drainage, controlled soil development and vegetation growth across the coastal plain. This quantitative biofacies-based approach provides an independent predictive tool and cross-check for interpreting environmental conditions along any ancient coastal ecosystem.

In animal husbandry, antimicrobial agents have been administered as supplements to increase production over the last 60 years. Large-scale animal production has increased the importance of antibiotic management because it may favor the evolution of antimicrobial resistance and select resistant strains. Brazil is a significant producer and exporter of animal-derived food. Although Brazil is still preparing a national surveillance plan, several changes in legislation and timely programs have been implemented. Thus, Brazilian data on antimicrobial resistance in bacteria associated with animals come from official programs and the scientific community. This review aims to update and discuss the available Brazilian data on this topic, emphasizing legal aspects, incidence, and genetics of the resistance reported by studies published since 2009, focusing on farm animals and derived foods with the most global public health impact. Studies are related to poultry, cattle, and pigs, and mainly concentrate on non-typhoid Salmonella, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus. We also describe legal aspects of antimicrobial use in this context; and the current occurrence of genetic elements associated with resistance to beta-lactams, colistin, and fluoroquinolones, among other antimicrobial agents. Data here presented may be useful to provide a better understanding of the Brazilian status on antimicrobial resistance related to farm animals and animal-derived food products.

Background: We report a mono-institutional experience regarding patient-perceived quality regarding the Chieti Radiotherapy Department, through RAMSI (Radiotherapy Amica Mia-SmileIN TM(SI) -My Friend Radiotherapy SI ) project, in critical scenarios of limited equipment and COVID-19., Material and Methods: Patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) were assessed as follows: Patient-centric welcome perception (PCWP), Comfort, Professional skills and Punctuality. Patients could give anonymous feedback using HappyOrNot technology through four totems located in strategic areas within the center. An internal benchmark was obtained using the feedback received after a preliminary observation period. The SI Experience Index was collected, analyzed and compared. Weekly and monthly reports were generated., Results: From February 2019 to February 2022, 8924 patients accessed the department; 17,464 daily treatments were recorded and 5830 points of feedback were collected: 896, 1267, 1125 and 2542 for PCWP, Comfort, Professional skills and Punctuality, respectively. A LINAC decommissioning period was analyzed, with decreases in the SI-Index score and Smile-IN approved percentage and an improvement after this period. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic was analyzed with a mild evaluations decrease for PREM's Welcome, Comfort and Punctuality (Δ-value: -9%, -3% and -4%, respectively), while Professional skills were always optimal., Conclusion: The RAMSI project was effective for assessing treatment quality perception, allowing for improving clinical procedures with corrective actions. The RAMSI project is ongoing.

Adolescents with differences of sex development (DSD) often have complex medical, surgical, and psychological care needs and require age-appropriate resources. This cross-sectional study describes the past and current experiences of adolescents and young adults with DSD and their need for information and support. Participants aged 14−30 years with DSD diagnoses were identified, either from departmental records at the Royal Children’s Hospital (RCH), Melbourne, Australia, or from the private practice of a gynecologist linked to RCH. Anonymized data were collected from a specifically designed online survey. Of the 314 successfully traced patients, 91 (28.9%) completed the survey. Amongst respondents, older age was strongly correlated with higher levels of distress at the time of disclosure (b = 0.67, p < 0.001). People who reported greater understanding of their condition (b = −0.45, p = 0.010) and higher levels of support (b = −0.40, p = 0.003) identified lower levels of current distress. Respondents preferred to receive information from a specialist doctor, GP, or websites and reported information needs being highest during adolescence. Only one in four respondents recalled ever being offered psychological support. A number of perceived barriers to accessing support were identified. Our findings indicate that young people’s information and support needs may be best met by improving online resources, as well as increasing introductions to knowledgeable and appropriate primary care physicians, psychological services, and peer support groups. Further work to promote and increase engagement with psychological and peer support for those with DSD will be important.
