Despite advances in treatment, prostate cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related deaths among men, highlighting the urgent need for innovative therapeutic strategies. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have emerged as key regulatory molecules in cancer biology. In this research, we investigated the tumor-suppressive role of miR-5100 in PCa and its underlying molecular mechanism. By using RT-qPCR, we observed lower miR-5100 expression in PCa cell lines than in benign prostate cells. Functional assays demonstrated that miR-5100 overexpression significantly suppressed PCa cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. By using RNA-sequencing, we identified 446 down-regulated and 806 upregulated candidate miR-5100 target genes overrepresenting cell cycle terms. Mechanistically, E2F7 was confirmed as a direct target of miR-5100 using the reporter gene assay and RIP assay. By conducting flow cytometry analysis, cell cycle progression was blocked at the S phase. E2F7 overexpression partially mitigated the suppressive impact of miR-5100 in PCa cells. In conclusion, miR-5100 is a tumor suppressor in PCa by blocking cell cycle and targeting E2F7.

Interleukin-12 (IL-12) is considered to be a promising cytokine for enhancing an antitumor immune response; however, recombinant IL-12 has shown significant toxicity and limited efficacy in early clinical trials. Recently, many strategies for delivering IL-12 to tumor tissues have been developed, such as modifying IL-12, utilizing viral vectors, non-viral vectors, and cellular vectors. Previous studies have found that the fusion of IL-12 with extracellular matrix proteins, collagen, and immune factors is a way to enhance its therapeutic potential. In addition, studies have demonstrated that viral vectors are a good platform, and a variety of viruses such as oncolytic viruses, adenoviruses, and poxviruses have been used to deliver IL-12—with testing previously conducted in various cancer models. The local expression of IL-12 in tumors based on viral delivery avoids systemic toxicity while inducing effective antitumor immunity and acting synergistically with other therapies without compromising safety. In addition, lipid nanoparticles are currently considered to be the most mature drug delivery system. Moreover, cells are also considered to be drug carriers because they can effectively deliver therapeutic substances to tumors. In this article, we will systematically discuss the anti-tumor effects of IL-12 on its own or in combination with other therapies based on different delivery strategies.

The goal of this study is to explore the effectiveness of applying multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) algorithms in the design of infinite impulse response (IIR) filters. Given the widespread application of IIR filters in digital signal processing, the precision of their design plays a significant role in the system’s performance. Traditional design methods often encounter the problem of local optima, which limits further enhancement of the filter’s performance. This research proposes a method based on multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithms, aiming not just to find the local optima but to identify the optimal global design parameters for the filters. The design methodology section will provide a detailed introduction to the application of multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithms in the IIR filter design process, including particle initialization, velocity and position updates, and the definition of objective functions. Through multiple experiments using Butterworth and Chebyshev Type I filters as prototypes, as well as examining the differences in the performance among these filters in low-pass, high-pass, and band-pass configurations, this study compares their efficiencies. The minimum mean square error (MMSE) of this study reached 1.83, the mean error (ME) reached 2.34, and the standard deviation (SD) reached 0.03, which is better than the references. In summary, this research demonstrates that multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithms are an effective and practical approach in the design of IIR filters.

Efficient and economical hydrocarbon extraction relies on a clear understanding of fluid flow dynamics in subsurface reservoirs, where multiphase flow in porous media poses complex modeling challenges. Traditional numerical methods for solving the governing partial differential equations (PDEs) provide effective solutions but struggle with the high computational demands required for accurately capturing fine-scale flow dynamics. In response, this study introduces a physics-informed generative adversarial network (GAN) framework for addressing the Buckley–Leverett (B-L) equation with non-convex flux functions. The proposed framework consists of two novel configurations: a Physics-Informed Generator GAN (PIG-GAN) and Dual-Informed GAN (DI-GAN), both of which are rigorously tested in forward and inverse problem settings for the B-L equation. We assess model performance under noisy data conditions to evaluate robustness. Our results demonstrate that these GAN-based models effectively capture the B-L shock front, enhancing predictive accuracy while embedding fluid flow equations to ensure model interpretability. This approach offers a significant advancement in modeling complex subsurface environments, providing an efficient alternative to traditional methods in fluid dynamics applications.

Lactic acid is an important platform feedstock for synthesizing various chemicals. Lactic acid is normally converted from any sugar such as glucose, and Sn-β zeolite is an effective catalyst. In this study, β zeolite with different Si/Al ratios was prepared and characterized. Sn precursor is reacted with β zeolite by high-energy mixing and introduced into the framework of β zeolite to obtain Sn-β zeolite with different Si/Al ratios. The physicochemical properties of Sn-β zeolite were characterized by XRD, FTIR, N2 physical adsorption, UV Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and pyridine adsorption FTIR. The results showed that when the Si/Al molar ratio of β zeolite was less than 45, the skeleton load of Sn in β zeolite increased effectively with the decrease in aluminum content, and the Lewis acid and Brønsted acid site numbers could be improved. As the Si/Al ratio exceeded 45, the increase in Sn load in β zeolite slowed down, and the Lewis acid and Brønsted acid site numbers were decreased. The results from the catalytic conversion of glucose to lactic acid confirmed that the too high Si/Al ratio caused a decrease conversion rate. The highest performance of the prepared Sn-β zeolites with the highest catalytic efficiency had a glucose conversion rate of 96.69% and lactic acid yield of 39.42% within 7 h at 190 °C in a pressure reactor.

Evaluating students’ learning effectiveness is of great importance for gaining a deeper understanding of the learning process, accurately diagnosing learning barriers, and developing effective teaching strategies. Emotion, as a key factor influencing learning outcomes, provides a novel perspective for identifying cognitive states and emotional experiences. However, traditional evaluation methods suffer from one sidedness in feature extraction and high complexity in model construction, often making it difficult to fully explore the deep value of emotional data. To address this challenge, we have innovatively proposed a lightweight neurodynamic model: 3D-BCLAM. This model cleverly integrates Bidirectional Convolutional Long Short-Term Memory (BCL) and dynamic attention mechanism, in order to efficiently capture emotional dynamic changes in time series with extremely low computational cost. 3D-BCLAM can achieve a comprehensive evaluation of students’ learning outcomes, covering not only the cognitive level but also delving into the emotional dimension for detailed analysis. Under testing on public datasets, 3D-BCLAM has demonstrated outstanding performance, significantly outperforming traditional machine learning and deep learning models based on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN). This achievement not only validates the effectiveness of the 3D-BCLAM model, but also provides strong support for promoting the innovation of student learning effectiveness assessment.

With the development of system-on-chip (SoC) and chiplet technology in the post-Moore era, an increasing number of chiplets are being integrated into a single chip. Consequently, the functions and complexity that can be realized are growing daily. Simultaneously, the volume of test data required for ultra-large-scale integrated circuits (ULSIs) has risen significantly. However, traditional automatic test equipment (ATE) is constrained by its data storage and bandwidth limitations, and its long technology iteration cycle. These cannot keep pace with the rapid development of design technology. This discrepancy leads to challenges in ULSI testing, such as excessively long test time and difficulties in completing the tests. Test compression technology can effectively address these issues by reducing the performance requirements of the test equipment, which in turn can lower test costs. This paper summarizes the classifications of chip test compression technology and, based on their current development, provides a detailed analysis of key technologies. It includes test compression-oriented coding methods, optimization of scan chain structures, and enhancements in coding for compression efficiency. Finally, a forward-looking perspective on the development of chip test compression technology is presented. The aim is to offer a reference for subsequent research in this field and related areas, as well as to provide technical support for the advancement of ULSI testing in the post-Moore era.

This study aimed to ascertain the potential benefits of green radish polysaccharide (GRP) in treating alcoholic liver disease (ALD) in mice and explore its mechanism of action. Using biochemical analysis, high-throughput sequencing of gut microbiota, and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry to measure short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in feces, we found that GRP intervention significantly improved lipid metabolism and hepatic function in mice subjected to excessive alcohol intake. The GRP intervention reduced malondialdehyde levels by 66% and increased total superoxide dismutase levels by 22%, thereby mitigating alcohol-induced oxidative stress. Furthermore, GRP intervention in mice with alcohol consumption resulted in a reduction in tumor necrosis factor, interleukin 6, and lipopolysaccharide levels by 12%, 9%, and 25%, respectively, effectively attenuating alcoholic liver inflammation. 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing demonstrated that excessive alcohol consumption markedly altered the gut microbiota composition in mice. The GRP treatment resulted in a significant reduction in the number of beneficial bacteria (Lactobacillus and Lachnospiraceae_NK4A136_group) and an increase in the proportion of harmful bacteria (Muribaculaceae and Verrucomicrobiota). The metabolomic analyses of the SCFAs demonstrated an increase in the contents of SCFAs, acetic acid, propionic acid, and butyric acid, following GRP supplementation. Furthermore, the metabolic levels of cholinergic synapses and glycolysis/gluconeogenesis were found to be modulated. In conclusion, these findings suggest that GRP may attenuate alcohol-induced oxidative damage in the liver by modulating the gut microbiota and hepatic metabolic pathways. This may position GRP as a potential functional component for ALD prevention.

In recent decades, there have been many studies on Hopf bifurcation and population stability with time delay. However, the stability and Hopf bifurcation of fractional-order population systems with time delay are lower. In this paper, we discuss the dynamic behavior of a fractional-order three-population model with pregnancy delay using Laplace transform of fractional differential equations, stability and bifurcation theory, and MATLAB software. The specific conditions of local asymptotic stability and Hopf bifurcation for fractional-order time-delay systems are determined. A fractional-order proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controller is applied to the three-population food chain system for the first time. The convergent speed and vibration amplitude of the system can be changed by PID control. For example, after fixing the values of the integral control gain ki and the differential control gain kd, the amplitude of the system decreases and the convergence speed changes as the proportional control gain kp decreases. The effectiveness of the PID control strategy in complex ecosystem is proved. The numerical simulation results are in good agreement with the theoretical analysis. The research in this paper has potential application values concerning the management of complex population systems. The bifurcation theory of fractional-order time-delay systems is also enriched.

Post-fermented Pu-erh tea (PFPT) is a microbial fermented tea characterized by unique sensory attributes and multiple health benefits. Aspergillus niger is the dominant fungus involved in the fermentation process and plays a significant role in imparting the distinct characteristics of PFPT. To investigate the role of Aspergillus niger in the fermentation of Pu-erh tea, this study inoculated unsterilized sun-dried green tea with Aspergillus niger isolated from Pu-erh tea to enhance the fermentation process. Metabolites and microbial communities in sun-dried green tea (CK), fortified fermented tea (TF), and naturally fermented tea (NF) were analyzed using non-targeted metabolomics, 16S rDNA, and internal transcribed spacer sequencing. Non-targeted metabolomics revealed that Aspergillus niger significantly altered the metabolite profile of the tea samples, identifying a total of 200 different metabolites, with 95 showing significant increases and 105 significant decreases, predominantly enriched in metabolic pathways associated with amino acid biosynthesis and degradation. High-throughput sequencing revealed that although the relative abundance of the fungal community remained largely unchanged, the inoculation of Aspergillus niger significantly increased the abundance of Bacillales and Pseudomonas within the bacterial community, thereby influencing the dynamic balance of the microbial ecosystem. Collectively, the inoculation of Aspergillus niger altered the composition of the microbial community and metabolic activities, resulting in changes to the content of amino acid-dominated metabolites, thereby enhancing the flavor profile and overall quality of Pu-erh tea. These findings provide important insights for optimizing the production processes of Pu-erh tea and the application of microorganisms in other fermented foods.

Lignin is one of the building blocks of plant cell walls, and the study of the spectral characterization of its cleavage process can help to monitor the production and reuse of straw after decay. In this paper, four theoretical model structures of lignin formed by lignin G monomers and connected by β-O-4 bonding type were optimized and calculated based on the density functional theory using the B3LYP/3-21g and B3LYP/6-311g basis sets. The results showed that the theoretical infrared spectra of lignin increased sequentially in the absorption peaks of 1500 cm−1 blue shift and 2932 cm−1 and 1200 cm−1 red shift, while the latter three theoretical models showed new infrared absorption peaks of 716 cm−1 and 823 cm−1 due to the presence of the β-O-4 structure, which is of great value for the theoretical spectral study of organic macromolecules and also provides data support for the spectral change in lignin in the degradation of graminaceous plants.

The tunability of spectral lineshapes, ranging from Lorentzian to Fano profiles, is essential for advancing nanoscale photonic technologies. Conventional far-field techniques are insufficient for studying nanoscale phenomena, particularly within the terahertz (THz) range. In this work, we use a U-shaped resonant ring on a waveguide substrate to achieve precise modulation of Lorentzian, Fano, and antiresonance profiles. THz scattering scanning near-field optical microscopy (s-SNOM) reveals the underlying physical mechanism of these transitions, driven by time-domain phase shifts between the background excitation from the waveguide and the resonance of the U-shaped ring. Our approach reveals a pronounced asymmetry in the near-field response, which remains undetectable in far-field systems. The ability to control spectral lineshapes at the nanoscale presents promising applications in characterizing composite nanoresonators and developing nanoscale phase sensors.

Exposure to high temperatures can impair the grain-filling process in rice (Oryza sativa L.), potentially leading to the formation of chalky endosperm, but the molecular regulation mechanism remains largely elusive. Here, we reported that high-temperature (HT) stress (day/night, 35 °C/30 °C) reduces both the grain-filling rate and grain weight of Ningjing 1 variety compared to normal temperatures (NT, day/night, 28 °C/23 °C). Grains under HT stress exhibited an opaque, milky-white appearance, alongside significant alterations in starch physicochemical properties. An integrated transcriptomic analysis of grains under HT revealed up-regulation of genes related to defense mechanisms and oxidoreductase activity, while genes involved in sucrose and starch synthesis were down-regulated, and α-amylase genes were up-regulated. Proteomic analysis of grains under HT echoed this pattern. These results demonstrate that high temperature during the grain-filling stage significantly increases rice chalkiness by down-regulating genes related to sucrose and starch synthesis, while up-regulating those involved in starch degradation.

Converting agricultural biomass wastes into bio-chemicals can significantly decrease greenhouse gas emissions and foster global initiatives towards mitigating climate change. This study examined the co-production of xylitol and ethanol from xylose and glucose-rich hydrolysates of corn cob (CC), sugarcane bagasse (SCB), and rice straw (RS) without prior detoxification, using C. magnoliae (C. mag), C. tropicalis (C. trop), and C. guilliermondii (C. guil). A score ranking system based on weighted yields and productivity assessed the best raw material and yeast strain combination. The study revealed that C. mag cultivated on RS hemicellulosic and CC cellulosic media exhibited statistically significant (p ≤ 0.05) superiority in xylitol (272 ± 5) and ethanol 273 ± 3, production. The single-phase emulsion system using frozen-thawed whole cells of CC—C. mag, CC—C. trop, and RS—C. guil was utilized for phenylacetylcarbinol (PAC) biotransformation. Although similar PAC concentration within 14.4–14.7 mM was obtained, the statistically significant higher (p ≤ 0.05) volumetric pyruvate decarboxylase (PDC) activity from C. mag at 360 min was observed by 28.3 ± 1.51%. Consequently, further utilization of CC—C. mag in a two-phase emulsion system (Pi buffer: vegetable oil (Vg. oil) and Pi buffer: deep eutectic solvents (DES)) revealed that Pi buffer: DES medium preserved volumetric PDC activity (54.0 ± 1.2%) statistically significant higher (p ≤ 0.05) than the Pi buffer: Vg. oil system (34.3 ± 1.3%), with no statistically significant difference (p > 0.05) in [PAC]. These findings outlined the sustainable pioneering approach for the co-production of chemicals and reusing the residual yeast cells for PAC biotransformation in the Pi buffer: DES system.

The storage time of rice determines its quality and nutritional value, and the longer the storage time, the greater the impact. In this study, different excitation wavelengths (405 nm, 365 nm, 310 nm) were used to detect the fluorescence spectrum of “Dongdao 12” brown rice. Support vector machine (SVM), K-nearest neighbor (KNN), and wide neural network (WNN) were used for modeling and analysis. Under the excitation of 310 nm, the accuracy of WNN classification is up to 99.2%. In order to reduce the scattering effect and other interference in the data, multiplicative scatter correction (MSC), standard normal variable (SNV), and Savitzky–Goray smoothing (SG) preprocessing methods were used. The results showed that SG + KNN classification achieved an accuracy of 99.3% under 310 nm excitation. In order to further improve the classification accuracy, the original spectrum and the preprocessed spectrum under different excitation light sources were fused. The classification accuracy of all methods was improved, and the original data fusion was combined with the WNN model to reach 100%. It shows that fluorescence spectroscopy has excellent potential in identifying rice storage years.

Deeply buried pipe energy pile (DBP-EP) offers the capability to harness geothermal energy from significantly deeper subterranean layers than those available inside buried pipe energy pile (IBP-EP). Despite its potential, there is a notable scarcity of research on the thermomechanical behavior of DBP-EP. This study meticulously observed the thermal variations in the soil surrounding the DBP-EP, the mechanical response of the pile itself, the earth pressure at the pile toe, and the displacement occurring at the pile’s top during the heating phase across various operational conditions. The findings show that for every 1 °C increase in inlet temperature, the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet increases by about 0.27 °C. The method of load application at the pile top during heating markedly influences the frictional resistance along the pile’s sides. Furthermore, When the pile top load rises from 0.26 kN to 0.78 kN, the observed vertical load at the pile foot decreases by 2.2–8.51%. This indicates that the increase in the pile top load reduces the downdrag effect on the sandy soil near the pile toe. This reduction subsequently diminishes the impact of vertical loads on the pile toe. Notably, after continuous operation for 8 h, the rate of increase in pile top displacement for DBP-EP shows a decline. Additionally, for every 1 °C rise in the inlet water temperature, the final displacement at the pile top diminishes by approximately 0.03‰D. This research endeavors to furnish a robust theoretical foundation for the structural design and practical engineering applications for DBP-EP.

With advancements in autonomous driving, LiDAR has become central to 3D object detection due to its precision and interference resistance. However, challenges such as point cloud sparsity and unstructured data persist. This study introduces MS3D (Multi-Scale Feature Fusion 3D Object Detection Method), a novel approach to 3D object detection that leverages the architecture of a 2D Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) as its core framework. It integrates a Second Feature Pyramid Network to enhance multi-scale feature representation and contextual integration. The Adam optimizer is employed for efficient adaptive parameter tuning, significantly improving detection performance. On the KITTI dataset, MS3D achieves average precisions of 93.58%, 90.91%, and 88.46% in easy, moderate, and hard scenarios, respectively, surpassing state-of-the-art models like VoxelNet, SECOND, and PointPillars.

In response to the rising prevalence of hypertension due to lifestyle changes, this study introduces a novel approach for non-contact blood pressure (BP) monitoring. Recognizing the “silent killer” nature of hypertension, this research focuses on developing accessible, non-invasive BP measurement methods. This study compares two distinct non-contact BP measurement approaches: one combining the Nelder–Mead simplex method with particle swarm optimization (NM-PSO) and the other using machine learning regression analysis. In the NM-PSO method, a standard webcam captures continuous images of the palm, extracting physiological data through light wave reflection and employing independent component analysis (ICA) to remove noise artifacts. The NM-PSO achieves a verified root mean square error (RMSE) of 2.71 mmHg for systolic blood pressure (SBP) and 3.42 mmHg for diastolic blood pressure (DBP). Alternatively, the regression method derives BP values through machine learning-based regression formulas, resulting in an RMSE of 2.88 mmHg for SBP and 2.60 mmHg for DBP. Both methods enable fast, accurate, and convenient BP measurement within 10 s, suitable for home use. This study demonstrates a cost-effective solution for non-contact BP monitoring and highlights each method’s advantages. The NM-PSO approach emphasizes optimization in noise handling, while the regression method leverages formulaic efficiency in BP estimation. These results offer a biomimetic approach that could replace traditional contact-based BP measurement devices, contributing to enhanced accessibility in hypertension management.

Throughout history, humanity has grappled with infectious diseases that pose serious risks to health and life. The COVID-19 pandemic has profoundly impacted society, prompting significant reflection on preparedness and response strategies. In the future, humans may face unexpected disasters or crises, making it essential to learn from the COVID-19 experience, especially in ensuring adequate emergency supplies and mobilizing resources effectively in times of need. Efficient emergency medical management is crucial during sudden outbreaks, and the preparation and allocation of medical supplies are vital to safeguarding lives, health, and safety. However, the unpredictable nature of epidemics, coupled with population dynamics, means that infection rates and supply needs within affected areas are uncertain. By studying the factors and mechanisms influencing emergency supply demand during such events, materials can be distributed more efficiently to minimize harm. This study enhances the existing dynamics model of infectious disease outbreaks by establishing a demand forecasting model for emergency supplies, using Hubei Province in China as a case example. This model predicts the demand for items such as masks, respirators, and food in affected regions. Experimental results confirm the model’s effectiveness and reliability, providing support for the development of comprehensive emergency material management systems. Ultimately, this study offers a framework for emergency supply distribution and a valuable guideline for relief efforts.

To ensure the operational safety of oil transportation stations, it is crucial to predict the impact of pressure and temperature before crude oil enters the pipeline network. Accurate predictions enable the assessment of the pipeline’s load-bearing capacity and the prevention of potential safety incidents. Most existing studies primarily focus on describing and modeling the mechanisms of the oil flow process. However, monitoring data can be skewed by factors such as instrument aging and pipeline friction, leading to inaccurate predictions when relying solely on mechanistic or data-driven approaches. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a Temporal-Spatial Three-stream Temporal Convolutional Network (TS-TTCN) model that integrates mechanistic knowledge with data-driven methods. Building upon Temporal Convolutional Networks (TCN), the TS-TTCN model synthesizes mechanistic insights into the oil transport process to establish a hybrid driving mechanism. In the temporal dimension, it incorporates real-time operating parameters and applies temporal convolution techniques to capture the time-series characteristics of the oil transportation pipeline network. In the spatial dimension, it constructs a directed topological map based on the pipeline network’s node structure to characterize spatial features. Data analysis and experimental results show that the Three-stream Temporal Convolutional Network (TTCN) model, which uses a Tanh activation function, achieves an error rate below 5%. By analyzing and validating real-time data from the Dongying oil transportation station, the proposed hybrid model proves to be more stable, reliable, and accurate under varying operating conditions.

Safe antibiotic substitutes are needed given the rise in antimicrobial resistance, environmental contamination, and stringent antibiotic regulations. Insect-derived antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are promising candidates due to their antimicrobial activity, stability, and safety. This study investigates the antimicrobial mechanism of crude AMP extracts and their physicochemical characteristics in black soldier fly larvae (BSFL). The results indicated that BSFL reared on a wheat bran diet exhibited significantly improved growth performance and AMP production when compared to the other three diets. AMP extracts showed enhanced antimicrobial activity and physicochemical stability, including temperatures and metal ions except Cu+. Moreover, AMP extracts disrupted the cell membrane and inhibited the cell cycle of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), thus exhibiting antimicrobial activity. Furthermore, transcriptomic and KEGG enrichment analyses identified 509 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) related to the Toll and IMD signaling pathways. STRING and GeneMANIA analyses confirmed the association of these pathways with immune response and AMP secretion. qRT-PCR results showed elevated expression of immune genes (GNBP3, NFKBIA, GADD45, and Spz) in BSFL following S. aureus immunization, consistent with RNA-seq findings. These findings offer a valuable reference for using AMPs as antibiotic substitutes in animal feeds and highlight the need for further research on AMP purification and the synergistic regulation of protein synthesis and AMP production in BSFL.

The pupal parasitoid Trichopria drosophilae (Hymenoptera: Diapriidae) has been evaluated as a biological agent of Drosophila suzukii. Integrated pest management strategies mostly rely on combined application of multiple insecticides and natural enemies. This study assessed the toxicity of eight common insecticides against D. suzukii in fruit orchards and the effects of semilethal and sublethal doses on T. drosophilae. The eight insecticides had higher toxicities to D. suzukii larvae with lower LC50 values than those for adults. Adults and larvae showed high susceptibility to emamectin benzoate, spinetoram, lambda-cyhalothrin, abamectin, and sophocarpidine. The median lethal doses (LC50) of lambda-cyhalothrin and imidacloprid to T. drosophilae adults were 60.41 mg/L and 100.58 mg/L, higher than the toxicities of the other six insecticides. Applying chlorantraniliprole, emamectin benzoate, sophocarpidine, abamectin, azadirachtin, and spinetoram resulted in low toxicity to D. suzukii pupae. However, the exposure of D. suzukii pupae or larvae to these insecticides at semilethal and sublethal doses decreased the parasitism or eclosion rate of T. drosophilae. These results improve our understanding of the effects of insecticide residues on T. drosophilae development and provide a basis for the combined use of chemical and biological options for managing D. suzukii.

This study conducted an in-depth analysis of the sediment dynamics in the lower reaches of the Changhua River and its estuary on Hainan Island. Through field collection of topographic data and sediment sampling, combined with advanced computational techniques, the study explored the transport pathways and depositional patterns of sediments. The grain size trend analysis (GSTA) method was utilized, in conjunction with the Flemming triangle diagram method, to classify the dynamic environment of the sediments. Furthermore, hydrodynamic modeling results were integrated to further analyze the transport trends of the sediments. The study revealed that the sediment types in the research area are complex, primarily consisting of gravelly sand and sandy gravel, indicating a generally coarse sedimentary environment in the region. The sediments in the lower reaches of the Changhua River generally transport towards the south and southwest (in the direction of Beili Bay). The net sediment transport directions inferred from the GSTA model are largely consistent with the Eulerian residual flow patterns, especially in the offshore area, where discrepancies are observed in the nearshore zone. The nearshore transport is influenced by the combined effects of alongshore currents, residual flows, and river inputs, while the offshore transport exhibits a shift from the northwest to southwest directions, reflecting the regional circulation patterns.

In this study, the effects of applied pressure (0, 90, 120, and 150 MPa) during solidification on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and impact–abrasive wear resistance of Cr-Mn-Mo steel prepared by squeeze casting were systematically investigated. The results demonstrated that the materials produced under pressure showed smaller grains compared to those of the samples fabricated without pressure. Compared to the unpressurized sample, the grain diameter of the sample prepared at 120 MPa decreased by 37.7%, the length of the primary arm shortened by 40.7%, and the spacing of the secondary arm contracted by 14.1%. Furthermore, the impact toughness results indicated that the samples prepared without pressure exhibited brittle fracture characteristics, whereas quasi-destructive fractures predominated in the samples prepared at 120 MPa. Simultaneously, three-point bending strength exhibited a gradual increase with increasing pressure, reaching a maximum value of 855.5 MPa when prepared under 150 MPa. Additionally, the impact–abrasive wear resistance of Cr-Mn-Mo alloyed steel produced by squeeze casting was significantly enhanced compared to the samples produced without pressure. The samples without external pressure exhibited a combination of abrasive and adhesive wear, whereas the wear characteristics of the samples prepared under pressure includes grooves, cutting marks, flaking pits, and accumulating ridges.

Urban shrinkage has emerged as a worldwide concern, which is increasingly prevalent in developing countries like China, particularly in medium-sized cities (MSCs). Compared to large cities and counties, MSCs find themselves in a national policy blind spot and have been neglected both in policy and research. Previous studies, based on population changes, have shown that urban shrinkage in China is not severe. However, urban shrinkage is not just about population decline, and it has not been adequately discussed from a multi-dimensional perspective. This paper adopts a multi-dimensional model, considering population, economy, and space dimensions to analyze shrinkage patterns in 164 MSCs in China from 2010 to 2020. Findings reveal that 6.1% of MSCs experienced population shrinkage, and 24.4% faced shrinkage in economic or spatial dimensions. Shrinking MSCs are spatially distributed in the Northeast as well as in the areas surrounding large cities. Industrial restructuring, job losses, and healthcare disparities contribute to urban shrinkage, and the impact of aging will be further felt. As large cities consistently attract population and resources and digitization has dramatically affected population mobility, more MSCs will shrink in the future. This paper contributes to the understanding of shrinkage of MSCs among scholars and policymakers, urging a shift towards more balanced and digital urban governance.

Due to the high gain, wide bandwidth, and directional radiation characteristics of Vivaldi antennas, this paper conducted relevant research on the feasibility of non-destructive blood glucose detection based on Vivaldi antennas. The research included finite element method (FEM) simulation and glucose concentration monitoring. In the simulation stage, the power transmission and reflection characteristics, radiation characteristics, and electric field distribution characteristics of the antenna were described in detail. In the test stage, the S11 response of the antenna to variation in glucose concentration in the range of 0–6.11 mg/mL was measured, including the S11 amplitude and phase. The experimental results show that there is a high linear correlation between the S11 response and glucose concentration, and the sensitivity of the S11 amplitude response to the variation in glucose concentration is close to 0.3445 (dB/(mg/mL)) at 14.2556 GHz, and the sensitivity of the S11 phase response to the variation in glucose concentration is about 0.5652 (degree/(mg/mL)) at 14.37 GHz. In addition, the predicted results of the glucose concentration based on linear regression are discussed.

Goose-derived Newcastle disease (ND) and gosling plague (GP) are serious threats to the goose industry. Conventional vaccines have made significant contributions to preventing GP and ND. Nevertheless, the renewal of conventional vaccines and the application of novel vaccines are urgently needed to align with eco-friendly and efficient breeding concepts and achieve the final goal of epidemic purification. Therefore, based on the Newcastle disease virus-like particles (ND VLPs) vector platform, we developed novel chimeric ND-GP bivalent cVLPs (ND-GP cVLPs) displaying the NDV HN protein and the GPV VP3 protein. In vivo, immunization experiments revealed that geese immunized with 30 µg, 50 µg, or 70 µg of the ND-GP cVLPs and commercial vaccines produced highly effective hemagglutination inhibitory antibodies against NDV and neutralizing antibodies against GPV, respectively. Furthermore, 70 µg of the ND-GP cVLPs effectively protected against virulent NDV and GPV, reducing tissue damage from viral infection and virus shedding in the oropharynx and cloaca. In conclusion, we provide eco-friendly and efficient novel ND-GP cVLPs for preventing goose-derived ND and GP. Our findings provide the basis for using ND VLPs as foreign protein carriers for the developing of multi-conjugate vaccines.

Objective: To establish and validate an LC-MS/MS method for the simultaneous determination of curcumin (CUR) as well as its glucuronide conjugate (COG) and sulfate conjugate (COS) in rat plasma. The method was employed to evaluate and compare the pharmacokinetic behaviors of curcumin following oral and intratracheal administration in rats. Methods: Rat plasma samples were separated by chromatography on a C18 column after protein precipitation with acetonitrile. Gradient elution with a mobile phase of 0.5 mM ammonium acetate in acetonitrile was utilized. Mass spectrometry detection incorporated an electrospray ionization (ESI) source, multiple reaction monitoring (MRM), and dual-mode (positive and negative) scanning for quantitative analysis. A total of 12 SD rats were randomly divided into two groups and were orally (20 mg/kg) or intratracheally (10 mg/kg) administrated curcumin, respectively. CUR, COG, and COS concentrations in plasma were measured to assess pharmacokinetic disparities. Results: The method demonstrated linearity within the ranges of 2–400 ng/mL for CUR and COS and 5–1000 ng/mL for COG. Intratracheal administration significantly elevated CUR plasma concentrations compared to oral administration. The exposure of COG was higher than COS following oral administration. Conversely, intratracheal administration resulted in markedly higher COS exposure, with no significant difference in COG exposure after dose normalization between oral and inhalation routes. Conclusions: The established LC-MS/MS method provides a reliable tool for the simultaneous measurement of CUR, COG, and COS in rat plasma, facilitating preclinical pharmacokinetic investigations. The study reveals distinct pharmacokinetic profiles for CUR following oral versus intratracheal administration, suggesting that inhalation may offer superior therapeutic efficacy.

The classification and recognition of features play a vital role in production and daily life; however, the current semantic segmentation of remote sensing images is hampered by background interference and other factors, leading to issues such as fuzzy boundary segmentation. To address these challenges, we propose a novel module for encoding and reconstructing multi-dimensional feature layers. Our approach first utilizes a bilinear interpolation method to downsample the multi-dimensional feature layer in the coding stage of the U-shaped framework. Subsequently, we incorporate a fractal curve module into the encoder, which aggregates points on feature maps from different layers, effectively grouping points from diverse regions. Finally, we introduce an aggregation layer that combines the upsampling method from the UNet series, employing the multi-scale censoring of multi-dimensional feature map outputs from various layers to efficiently capture both spatial and feature information. The experimental results across diverse scenarios demonstrate that our model achieves excellent performance in aggregating point information from feature maps, significantly enhancing semantic segmentation tasks.

Roll-on/roll-off vessels (RO/RO vessels) are playing an increasingly critical role in international automobile transport, facilitating the efficient movement of vehicles and heavy machinery across continents. Despite this growing significance, there is still limited research specifically focused on the RO/RO shipping network and its impact on global trade. This paper studies the global RO/RO shipping network using AIS data on RO/RO vessels collected from 2020 to 2023. We construct a method based on the complex network theory and the graph feature extraction method to quantitatively assess the features of the RO/RO shipping network. This method assesses the complexity, sparsity, homogeneity, modularity, and hierarchy of the RO/RO shipping network across various ports and countries and employs the graph convolutional neural network (GCN) model to extract network features for community detection. This process enables the identification of port clusters that are frequently linked to RO/RO vessels, as well as regional transport modes. The paper’s findings support these conclusions: (1) From 2020 to 2023, the number of nodes in the RO/RO shipping network increased by 22%, primarily concentrated in African countries. The RO/RO shipping network underwent restructuring after the pandemic, with major complex network parameters showing an upward trend. (2) The RO/RO shipping network is complex, with a stable graph density of 0.106 from 2020 to 2023. The average degree increased by 7% to 4.224. Modularity decreased by 6.5% from 0.431 in 2022 to 0.403, while the hierarchy coefficient rose to 0.575, suggesting that post-pandemic, community routes have become more diverse, reflecting the reconstruction and maturation of the overall network. (3) The model yielded a silhouette coefficient of 0.548 and a Davies–Bouldin index of 0.559 using an improved automatic feature extraction method. In comparison between 2020 and 2023, the changes in the two indicators are small. This shows that GINs can effectively extract network features and give us results that we can understand for community detection. (4) In 2023, key communities divide the RO/RO shipping network, with one community handling 39% of global routes (primarily Europe–Asia), another community handling 23% (serving Asia–Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East), and a third community managing 38% (linking Asia, Europe, and South America).

In the field of fringe projection profilometry, phase sensitivity is a critical factor influencing the precision of object measurements. Traditional techniques that employ basic horizontal or vertical fringe projection often do not achieve optimal levels of phase sensitivity. The identification of the fringe angle that exhibits optimal phase sensitivity has been a significant area of research. The present study introduces a novel method for determining the optimal fringe angle, facilitating 3D reconstruction without the need for equipment adjustments. Initially, the optimal fringe is derived through mathematical analysis, and the system’s position within each coordinate system is standardized, leading to the determination of the optimal fringe angle in the world coordinate system. Subsequently, an optimal fringe pattern, akin to that produced by a rotating projector, is generated based on the concept of rotation around a central point, with corresponding adjustments made to the calibration parameters. Finally, the optimal fringe is projected onto the target object for 3D reconstruction, thereby validating the proposed method. The experimental results demonstrate that this approach accurately identifies the optimal fringe angle, significantly enhancing both phase sensitivity and measurement accuracy. The accuracy of the measurement is significantly greater, by an order of magnitude, compared to the traditional method, with the error being approximately 50% of that associated with the currently established improved method.

Timing and/or position-sensitive MCP detectors, which detect secondary electrons (SEs) emitted from a conversion foil during ion passage, are widely utilized in nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics experiments. This review covers high-performance timing and/or position-sensitive MCP detectors that use SE emission for mass measurements of exotic nuclei at nuclear physics facilities, along with their applications in new measurement schemes. The design, principles, performance, and applications of these detectors with different arrangements of electromagnetic fields are summarized. To achieve high precision and accuracy in mass measurements of exotic nuclei using time-of-flight (TOF) and/or position (imaging) measurement methods, such as high-resolution beam-line magnetic-rigidity time-of-flight (Bρ-TOF) and in-ring isochronous mass spectrometry (IMS), foil-MCP detectors with high position and timing resolution have been introduced and simulated. Beyond TOF mass measurements, these new detector systems are also described for use in heavy ion beam trajectory monitoring and momentum measurements for both beam-line and in-ring applications. Additionally, the use of position-sensitive timing foil-MCP detectors for Penning trap mass spectrometers and multi-reflection time-of-flight (MR-TOF) mass spectrometers is proposed and discussed to improve efficiency and enhance precision.

The measurement of human breathing is crucial for assessing the condition of the body. It opens up possibilities for various intelligent applications, like advanced medical monitoring and sleep analysis. Conventional approaches relying on wearable devices tend to be expensive and inconvenient for users. Recent research has shown that inexpensive WiFi devices commonly available in the market can be utilized effectively for non-contact breathing monitoring. WiFi-based breathing monitoring is highly sensitive to motion during the breathing process. This sensitivity arises because current methods primarily rely on extracting breathing signals from the amplitude and phase variations of WiFi Channel State Information (CSI) during breathing. However, these variations can be masked by body movements, leading to inaccurate counting of breathing cycles. To address this issue, we propose a method for extracting breathing signals based on the trajectories of two-chain CSI ratios on the I/Q plane. This method accurately monitors breathing by tracking and identifying the inflection points of the CSI ratio samples’ trajectories on the I/Q plane throughout the breathing cycle. We propose a dispersion model to label and filter out CSI ratio samples representing significant motion interference, thereby enhancing the robustness of the breathing monitoring system. Furthermore, to obtain accurate breathing waveforms, we propose a method for fitting the trajectory curve of the CSI ratio samples. Based on the fitted curve, a breathing segment extraction algorithm is introduced, enabling precise breathing monitoring. Our experimental results demonstrate that this approach achieves minimal error and significantly enhances the accuracy of WiFi-based breathing monitoring.

Background: Serosurveillance of epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis (ECM) in healthy individuals is crucial for assessing disease risk and evaluating the effectiveness of vaccinations. However, this practical work is rare in China. Methods: We conducted cross-section serosurveillance in Guangzhou, Zhanjiang, and Heyuan in Guangdong Province, measuring Anti-Nm IgG with serogroups A, C, Y, and W, and analyzed the trends using a generalized additive model (GAM). Results: During 2019–2022, 7752 participants were included. The overall antibody positivity rate for serogroups A, C, Y, and W were 60.75%, 15.51%, 32.83%, and 14.56%, respectively. High Anti-Nm IgG was in children aged 0–5 and 5–10 years old. Geometric mean concentrations (GMCs) of Anti-Nm IgG were higher and correlated positively with vaccine doses compared with unvaccinated individuals. The GMC showed a consistent decrease trend in the vaccinated and a U-shaped curve in populations. The declined rates of GMC were 1.59 (95% CI: 1.03, 2.14) µg/mL, 1.65 (95% CI: 1.28, 2.03), 0.62 (95% CI: 0.22, 1.03), and 0.31 (95% CI: 0.08, 0.53) µg/mL per year for serogroups A, C, Y, and W, respectively. Conclusions: There were differences in antibody positivity rate and GMC for the four serogroups of ECM in the healthy individuals of Guangdong Province, with serogroup A showing the highest, and the demographic differences highlighted the high seroprevalence of Neisseria meningitidis in younger people. The variable prevalence rates among serogroups A, C, Y, and W and the observed decline in antibody titers underscore the need for adjustments in the immunization program targeting the meningococcal vaccine.

Skin photoaging, resulting from prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation, is a form of exogenous aging that not only impacts the aesthetic aspect of the skin but also exhibits a strong correlation with the onset of skin cancer. Nonetheless, the safety profile of non-natural anti-photoaging medications and the underlying physiological alterations during the process of photoaging remain inadequately elucidated. Consequently, there exists a pressing necessity to devise more secure interventions involving anti-photoaging drugs. Multiple studies have demonstrated the noteworthy significance of marine biomolecules in addressing safety concerns related to anti-photoaging and safeguarding the skin. Notably, bioactive peptides have gained considerable attention in anti-photoaging research due to their capacity to mitigate the physiological alterations associated with photoaging, including oxidative stress; inflammatory response; the abnormal expression of matrix metalloproteinase, hyaluronidase, and elastase; and excessive melanin synthesis. This review provides a systematic description of the research progress on the anti-photoaging and skin protection mechanism of marine bioactive peptides. The focus is on the utilization of marine bioactive peptides as anti-photoaging agents, aiming to offer theoretical references for the development of novel anti-photoaging drugs and methodologies. Additionally, the future prospects of anti-aging drugs are discussed, providing an initial reference for further research in this field.

Maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of the messages during a transmission is one of the most important aims of encrypted communication systems. Many achievements were made using biomolecules to improve the quality of the messages in communication. At the same time, it is still a challenge to construct cooperative communications based on the interactions between biomolecules to achieve the confidentiality and integrity of the transmitted messages. DNA-based encrypted communications have been developed, and in particular, DNA-origami-based message encryption can combine steganography and pattern encryption and exhibits extremely high confidentiality. Nevertheless, limited by biological characteristics, encrypted messages based on DNA require a strict storage environment in the process of transmission. The integrity of the message encoded in the DNA may be damaged when the DNA is in an unfriendly and hard environment. Therefore, it is particularly significant to improve the stability of DNA when it is exposed to a harsh environment during transmission. Here, we encoded the information into the DNA strands that were condensed for encryption to form a nanosphere covered with a shell of SiO2, which brings high-density messages and exhibits higher stability than separated DNA. The solid shell of SiO2 could prevent DNA from contacting the harsh environment, thereby protecting the DNA structure and maintaining the integrity of the information. At the same time, DNA nanospheres can achieve high throughput input and higher storage density per unit volume, which contribute to confusing the message strand (M-strand) with the interference strand in the stored information. Condensing DNA into the nanosphere that is used for DNA origami cryptography has the potential to be used in harsh conditions with higher confidentiality and integrity for the transmitted messages.

Multicellular organisms exhibit inherent cellular heterogeneity that cannot be captured by traditional high-throughput sequencing techniques, resulting in the unique cellular characteristics of individual cells being neglected. Single-cell transcriptome sequencing (scRNA-seq) technology can be used to determine the gene expression levels of each individual cell, facilitating the study of intercellular expression heterogeneity. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the development and applications of scRNA-seq technology in plant research. We highlight the significance of integrating single-cell multi-omics approaches to achieve a holistic understanding of plant systems. Additionally, we discuss the current challenges and future research directions for scRNA-seq technology in plant studies, aiming to offer valuable insights for its application across various plant species.

This research examined the impact of chlorogenic acid (CGA) on laying performance, antioxidant capacity, egg quality, hepatic inflammation, mitochondrial function, and lipid metabolism in hens subjected to hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced oxidative stress (OS). Three hundred sixty healthy 43-wk-old Hy-Line brown hens were randomly assigned to six treatments: a basal diet + 0 (control and H2O2), 600 (600 mg/kg CGA and 600 mg/kg CGA + H2O2), and 800 (800 mg/kg CGA and 800 mg/kg CGA + H2O2) mg/kg CGA for 84 d. On the 64th and 78th days of the trial, hens in groups H2O2, 600 mg/kg CGA + H2O2, and 800 mg/kg CGA + H2O2 were injected intraperitoneally with 10% H2O2. The results demonstrated that 600 and 800 mg/kg CGA significantly improved the egg production rate (EPR) and egg quality and reduced lipid peroxidation compared to the control group. The 800 mg/kg CGA showed greater improvements in the EPR and average egg weight (AEW) compared to the 600 mg/kg dose. Conversely, H2O2 exposure significantly decreased the EPR, AEW, and egg quality and increased feed conversion rate and average daily feed intake. H2O2 exposure significantly decreased serum T-AOC and increased serum MDA levels while reducing hepatic T-SOD, GSH-Px, and CAT activities. Meanwhile, H2O2 exposure significantly elevated liver reactive oxygen species levels, pathological damage, and NF-κB, TNFα, and IL-1β gene expression. Additionally, H2O2 treatment disrupted hepatocyte mitochondrial structure and significantly increased the expression of VDAC1 protein, and IP3R, GRP75, MCU, Fis1, and MFF genes, while downregulating the expression of MFN2 protein and PGC1α gene. Oil Red O staining demonstrated that H2O2 induced significant lipid accumulation in hepatocytes. Concurrently, H2O2 significantly increased serum triglycerides, total cholesterol, and liver triglycerides levels while decreasing serum hepatic lipase activity. This was primarily attributed to the significant upregulation of liver SREBP1, FASN, and ACC genes and the downregulation of the liver CPT1 gene induced by H2O2. Furthermore, CGA pretreatment effectively prevented the degeneration in laying performance and egg quality, as well as OS, liver inflammation, pathological damage, and mitochondrial dysfunction induced by H2O2. CGA inhibited H2O2-induced hepatic lipid accumulation by upregulating fatty acid oxidation-related gene expression and downregulating fatty acid synthesis-related gene expression. These findings indicate that the dietary addition of 800 mg/kg of CGA is the optimum supplementation dose. CGA can enhance laying performance and egg quality while alleviating OS, hepatic inflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, and lipid accumulation in H2O2-challenged laying hens.

Docetaxel has exhibited excellent therapeutic effects in cancer treatment; however, its hydrophobicity, short blood circulation time, and high blood toxicity restrict its clinical application. The use of mPEG-PLA micelles to deliver docetaxel into the body has been verified as an effective approach to enhance its therapeutic efficacy. However, mPEG-PLA micelles are easily disassembled in the bloodstream, which can easily lead to premature drug release. To broaden the application scenarios of mPEG PLA micelles, we utilized the π–π stacking effect as an intermolecular force to design a novel mPEG-PLA-Lys(Fmoc) micelle to enhance the blood stability and permeability of drug-loaded micelles. The result showed that drug-loaded micelles for injection did not alter the tissue selectivity of docetaxel. Intravenous injection of the micelles in nude mice showed better antitumor efficacy than docetaxel injection and tumor recurrence rate is 0%, which is significantly lower than that of docetaxel injection (100%). The micelles designed by this research institute are anticipated to improve the clinical therapeutic effect of docetaxel.

The rapid expansion of digital commerce, particularly same-day-delivery and next-day-delivery online shopping, is transforming daily life and community dynamics in urban settings. This study explores how these shopping behaviors impact the sense of community by mediating various social activities at both individual and community levels. Using an online survey design, this study analyzes the mediating roles of different types of social interactions, including informal social gatherings and organized community events, in shaping a sense of community. The findings reveal that while both unplanned, low-threshold interactions and more structured, organized activities contribute to a sense of community, their effects vary in strength. Stronger, more deliberate social interactions, such as resident-led events, show a full mediation effect, whereas casual, spontaneous encounters provide partial mediation. Similarly, organized community events demonstrate different levels of influence, with community-organized activities fully mediating certain sense of community dimensions and resident-engaged activities providing more comprehensive impacts. These findings highlight that same-day-delivery and next-day-delivery online shopping behaviors significantly shape the sense of community by facilitating both informal and organized social interactions.

Building height is a critical variable in urban studies, and the automated acquisition of the precise building height is essential for intelligent construction, safety, and the sustainable development of cities. The building height is often approximated by the building’s highest point. However, the calculation method of the building height of the various roof types differs according to building codes, making it challenging to accurately calculate the height of buildings with complex roof structures or multiple upper appendages. Consequently, this paper utilizes point clouds to propose an automated method for calculating building heights conforming to design codes. The model considers roof types and allows for fast, automated, and highly accurate building height estimation. First, roofs are extracted from the point cloud by combining normal vector density clustering with a region-growing algorithm. Second, combined with variational Bayes, a Gaussian mixture model is employed to segment the roof surfaces. Finally, roofs are classified based on slope characteristics, achieving the automatic acquisition of building heights for various roof types over large areas. Experiments were conducted on Vaihingen and STPLS3D datasets. In the Vaihingen area, the maximum error, root-mean-square-error (RMSE), and mean absolute error (MAE) of the measured heights are 1.92 cm, 1.18 cm, and 1.13 cm, respectively. In the STPLS3D area, these values are 1.79 cm, 0.82 cm, and 0.68 cm, respectively. The results demonstrate that the proposed method is reliable and effective, which offers valuable data for the development, construction, and planning of three-dimensional (3D) cities.

Concrete structures in high-altitude environments face many challenges. Establishing concrete crack control methods in high-altitude environments is crucial for enhancing the service capacity of concrete structures. In this study, a multi-field (hydration-temperature–humidity-constraint) coupling model was used to quantitatively assess the cracking risk of pier bodies at high altitude. On-site crack control tests were conducted on pier bodies using a micro-expansion anti-cracking agent to demonstrate the effectiveness of deformation shrinkage compensation in crack control at high altitudes. The results indicated that there was a risk of cracking in the pier body at high-altitude conditions, especially within 0.3 m from the pile cap and ±2.5 m from the center of the pier side surface. Compared with conventional piers, the micro-expansion anti-cracking agent approximately doubled the unit expansion deflection of piers at high temperatures while reducing the unit shrinkage deflection of piers by 11% to 12% at low temperatures. The concrete in conventional pier bodies was in a tension state after long-term hardening, while the concrete treated with the micro-expansive anti-cracking agent was in compression. Therefore, the deformation compensation effect of the micro-expansive anti-cracking agent was significant and reduced the risk of concrete cracking. In addition, early freezing had a significant impact on concrete strength, underscoring the importance of effective temperature control during the early stages of concrete placement in high-altitude environments.

Mastering building thermal science is essential for architectural professionals, as it supports the design of energy-efficient and thermally optimized buildings, which are critical for addressing the growing demands of sustainable architecture. However, traditional teaching methods often disconnect theoretical instruction from practical application, limiting students’ ability to apply core concepts in real-world scenarios. This study introduces a pedagogical reform that integrates design-oriented and inquiry-based experiments, hands-on physical activities, and field-based testing into the teaching of building thermal science. The revised curriculum focuses on applying theoretical principles in real architectural contexts, allowing students to directly design and experience thermal phenomena such as heat transfer and thermal resistance in building envelope structures. To evaluate the effectiveness of this reform, a control group using traditional confirmatory experiments (following predetermined instructions to complete experiments and validate the results) was compared to a reform group engaged in inquiry-based experimental learning. Over the course of three cohorts (2019, 2020, 2021), the reform group consistently outperformed the control group, with statistically significant improvements in average course grades. Specifically, the reform group had mean grade differences of 7.21 points higher in 2019, 4.55 points higher in 2020, and 5.83 points higher in 2021, as demonstrated by t-test results (p < 0.05). The reform group also exhibited more concentrated grade distributions, reflecting enhanced comprehension and retention of key thermal concepts. In addition to improved academic performance, students in the reform group demonstrated superior problem-solving abilities and a heightened awareness of energy conservation and sustainable design practices. This approach not only deepened their understanding of theoretical knowledge but also fostered a greater commitment to integrating sustainability into their architectural projects.

The search for new heterometallic metal pseudohalides will be significant for the development of novel functional materials. In this work, a new silver/cadmium heterometallic thiocyanate templated by benzyl viologen has been synthesized and structurally determined, i.e., {(BV)[Ag2Cd(SCN)6]}n (BV2+ = benzyl viologen). The interesting 1-D double chain [Ag2Cd(SCN)6]n2n− was constructed from the CdN6 octahedron and Ag2SCN6 dimers via μ2-SCN and μ3-S,S N SCN bridge, in which the Ag···Ag interaction can be found. Inter-molecular C-H···S/N hydrogen bonds between BV2+ cations and [Ag2Cd(SCN)6]n2n− chains contribute to the formation of a stable 3-D network. The short S···N distance implies the strong charge transfer (CT) interactions between the electron-rich silver/cadmium thiocyanate donor and BV2+ acceptor. This hybrid can exhibit a photo-generated current performance with an intensity of 1.75 × 10−8 A. Interestingly, this hybrid can present good photocatalytic degradation performance on rhodamine B in artificial seawater with a degradation ratio of 86.5% in 240 min. This work provides a new catalyst way for the organic dye-type ocean pollutant treatments.

The largehead hairtail (Trichiurus japonicus) is the most productive fish caught in China. In order to understand the seasonal distribution of T. japonicus in the East China Sea and the central and southern parts of the Yellow Sea, three species distribution models were used in this study, namely the random-forest model, K-nearest-neighbor algorithm, and gradient-ascending decision-tree model, based on the data of trawling surveys in the East China Sea and central and southern parts of the Yellow Sea from 2008 to 2009. Combined with a variance inflation factor and cross-check, a distribution model of T. japonicus was screened and constructed to analyze the influence of environmental factors on the distribution of T. japonicus in the East China Sea and central and southern parts of the Yellow Sea. The results showed that the random-forest model had the advantages of fitting effect and prediction ability among the three models. The analysis of this model showed that the water depth, bottom water temperature, and surface salinity had a great influence on the habitat distribution of T. japonicus. The relative resources of T. japonicus increased with the increase of bottom water temperature, reached the maximum at 23.8 °C, and first increased and then decreased with the increase of water depth and surface salinity, reaching the maximum when water depth is 72 m and surface salinity is 31.2%. This study also used the random-forest model to predict the spatial distribution of T. japonicus in the central and southern waters of the East China Sea and south-central Yellow Sea from 2008 to 2009, and the results showed that the predicted results were close to the actual situation. The research results can provide a reference for the exploitation and protection of T. japonicus resources in the East China Sea and the south-central Yellow Sea.

Antimicrobial peptide (AMP) surfaces are widely used to inhibit biofilm formation and bacterial infection. However, endpoint-immobilized AMPs on surfaces are totally different from free-state AMPs due to the constraints of the surface. In this work, the interactions between AMPs and bacterial cell membranes were analyzed through coarse-grained molecular dynamics and all-atom molecular dynamics simulations. This AMP disrupted membrane structure by altering the thickness and curvature of the membrane. Furthermore, the effect of surface-immobilized states of AMPs on their ability to disrupt membrane structure was revealed. The immobilized AMPs in the freeze-N system could bind to the membrane and disrupt the membrane structure through electrostatic forces between positively charged N-terminal amino acid residues and the negatively charged membrane, while the immobilized AMPs in the freeze-C system were repelled. The results will aid in the rational design of new AMP surfaces with enhanced efficacy and stability.

The Qinglian River plays a significant role in China’s national water conservation security patterns. To clarify the relationship between hydrogeochemical properties and groundwater quality in this karst-fissure aquifer system, drilling data, hydrochemical parameters, and δ2H and δ18O values of groundwater were analyzed. Multiple indications (Piper diagram, Gibbs diagram, Na+-normalized molar ratio diagram, chloro-alkaline index 1, mineral saturation index, and principal component analysis) were used to identify the primary sources of chemicals in the groundwater. Silicate weathering, oxidation of pyrite and chlorite, cation exchange reactions, and precipitation are the primary sources of dissolved chemicals in the igneous-fissure water. The most relevant parameters in the karst water are possibly from anthropogenic activities, and other chemicals are mostly derived from the dissolution of calcite and dolomite and cation exchange reactions. Notably, the chemical composition of the deep karst water from the karst basin is mainly influenced by the weathering of carbonate and cation exchange reactions and is less affected by human activities. The hydrogeochemical properties of groundwater in the karst hyporheic zone are influenced by the dissolution of carbonates and silicates, evaporation, and the promotion effect of dissolution of anorthite or Ca-containing minerals. Moreover, the smallest slope of the groundwater line from the karst hyporheic zone among all groundwater groups revealed that the mixing effects of evaporation, isotope exchange in water–rock interaction or deep groundwater recharge in the karst hyporheic zone are the strongest. The methods used in this study contribute to an improved understanding of the hydrogeochemical processes that occur in karst-fissure water systems and can be useful in zoning management and decision-making for groundwater resources.

Lyophyllum decastes is a commercially cultivated rare edible mushroom with high dietary and medicinal value. The mycelium physiological maturation was an important factor to the yield and quality of mushrooms obtained. However, it was impossible to obtain discriminative characteristics represented the maturity level of the mycelia from morphological features. In this article, we screened a candidate metabolite for evaluating the mycelium physiological maturation by metabolomic and transcriptomic analysis during mycelial vegetative growth stages of L. decastes. The results showed that mycelial vegetative growth 55 d had reached to physiological maturation according to the yield and quality of L. decastes, which the single bottle yield (307 g/bottle), the contents of flavonoids (2.94 mg/g dry weight), and 5 flavor amino acids (glutamate 177.90 μg/g, aspartate 95.74 μg/g, phenylalanine 31.68 μg/g, tyrosine 13.79 μg/g, and alanine 10.99 μg/g) were the highest. In addition, the metabolomic and transcriptomic analysis results showed that biosynthesis of secondary metabolites and amino acid had significant different during mycelial vegetative growth stages, and glutamine may be a candidate indicator to evaluate the mycelial physiological maturation. These findings contribute to improve our knowledge of mycelium physiological maturation and it will be used to increase mushroom yield and quality.

The strategic development of selenium-enriched soil cultivation is essential for effective agricultural land management. This research explores the sustainable utilization of selenium-rich soils in Qiongzhong County, Hainan Island. An extensive evaluation was conducted on 7266 surface soil samples, assessing the selenium concentrations, nutrient levels, heavy metals, pH values, and soil organic matter (SOM). In addition, analyses of 70 samples for organochlorine compounds and PAHs were performed. The results indicated average selenium content of 0.46 mg/kg, with 55.2% of the samples surpassing the selenium enrichment threshold of 0.4 mg/kg. According to the GB15618-2018 standards, 127 samples (1.75%) showed medium or high chromium-associated risks. No contamination from organochlorine compounds or PAHs was found, including the 16 priority-controlled PAHs with an average concentration of 30.3 µg/kg, confirming the soil’s high quality. The correlation and factor analysis identified surface enrichment as the main factor influencing selenium accumulation, presenting minimal environmental risks. Consequently, three categories of selenium-rich soil were defined: selenium-rich, pollution-free, and high-nutrient selenium-rich soil. Recommendations based on the soil characteristics and existing agricultural practices were made for the cultivation of selenium-rich vegetables, rubber, and nuts. This study lays a foundation for the sustainable management of selenium-rich soils, providing insights for further research and decision-making to optimize these resources, thus promoting environmental protection and agricultural sustainability.
