Weizmannia coagulans has been shown to have anticancer properties. However, there is limited research on the effects of postbiotic W. coagulans on colorectal cancer cell proliferation. Additionally, the exact mechanisms through which it influences apoptosis- and autophagy-related signaling pathways are yet to be thoroughly elucidated. This study explored the role of W. coagulans MZY531 as a postbiotic in inhibiting tumor growth by modulating apoptosis and autophagy in tumor cells. During the experimental period in the model group, tumors proliferated, tumor markers increased significantly, and immunofluorescence results showed that caspase-3 and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick-end labeling were significantly decreased. Conversely, supplementation with W. coagulans MZY531 postbiotics significantly reduced the levels of tumor markers carcinoembryonic antigen, colon cancer antigen, and extracellular protein kinase A and promoted cell apoptosis by increasing the caspase-3-positive count and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick-end labeling-positive cells in tumor tissue. Mechanistically, W. coagulans MZY531 postbiotics inhibit tumor growth through the modulation of the Bax/Bcl-2/caspase-3 and JAK2/STAT3 apoptosis pathways and PI3K/AKT/mTOR and TGF-β/SMAD4 cell autophagy pathways. W. coagulans MZY531 postbiotics had a more significant effect than that of W. coagulans MZY531 alone. Probiotics are expected to become effective natural functional foods for the treatment of colorectal cancer.

To increase productivity, more sophisticated cluster tools are developed. To achieve this, one of the ways is to increase the number of spaces in a process module (PM) and the number of fingers on a robot arm as well, leading to a cluster tool with multi-space PMs and a multi-finger-arm robot. This paper discusses the scheduling problem of cluster tools with four-space PMs and a four-finger-arm robot, a typical tool with multi-space PMs and a multi-finger-arm robot adopted in modern fabs. With two arms in such a tool, one is used as a clean one, while the other is used as a dirty one. In this way, wafer quality can be improved. However, scheduling such cluster tools to ensure the residency time constraints is very challenging, and there is no research report on this issue. This article conducts an in-depth analysis of the steady-state scheduling for this type of cluster tools to explore the effect of different scheduling strategies. Based on the properties, four robot task sequences are presented as scheduling strategies. With them, four linear programming models are developed to optimize the cycle time of the system and find feasible schedules. The performance of these strategies is dependent on the activity parameters. Experiments are carried out to test the effect of different parameters on the performance of different strategies. It shows that, given a group of parameters, one can apply all the strategies and choose the best result obtained by one of the strategies.

In order to improve the walking stability of a biped robot in multiple scenarios and reduce the complexity of the Central Pattern Generator (CPG) model, a new CPG walking controller based on multivariate linear mapping was proposed. At first, in order to establish a dynamics model, the lower limb mechanical structure of the biped robot was designed. According to the Lagrange and angular momentum conservation method, the hybrid dynamic model of the biped robot was established. The initial value of the robot’s passive walking was found by means of Poincaré mapping and cell mapping methods. Then, a multivariate linear mapping model was established to form a new lightweight CPG model based on a Hopf oscillator. According to the parameter distribution of the new CPG model, a preliminary parameter-tuning idea was proposed. At last, the joint simulation of MATLAB and V-REP shows that the biped robot based on the new CPG control has a stable periodic gait in flat and uphill scenes. The proposed method could improve the stability and versatility of bipedal walking in various environments and can provide general CPG generation and a tuning method reference for robotics scholars.

Synthetic microwave focusing methods have been widely adopted in qualitative medical imaging to detect and localize anomalies based on their electromagnetic scattering signatures. This paper discusses the principles, challenges, and limitations of synthetic microwave-focusing techniques in medical applications. It is shown that the various focusing techniques, including time reversal, confocal imaging, and delay-and-sum, are all based on the scalar solution of the electromagnetic scattering problem, assuming the imaged object, i.e., the tissue or object, is linear, reciprocal, and time-invariant. They all aim to generate a qualitative image, revealing any strong scatterer within the imaged domain. The differences among these techniques lie only in the assumptions made to derive the solution and create an image of the relevant tissue or object. To get a fast solution using limited computational resources, those methods assume the tissue is homogeneous and non-dispersive, and thus, a simplified far-field Green’s function is used. Some focusing methods compensate for dispersive effects and attenuation in lossy tissues. Other approaches replace the simplified Green’s function with more representative functions. While these focusing techniques offer benefits like speed and low computational requirements, they face significant ongoing challenges in real-life applications due to their oversimplified linear solutions to the complex problem of non-linear medical microwave imaging. This paper discusses these challenges and potential solutions.

Career crafting offers a new approach for individuals to cope with changing career situations. However, few studies have focused on personality-related antecedents that stably predict career proactivity. Additionally, as individuals’ careers are embedded in various social relationships, career crafting involves significant social interaction. Our study focuses on gratitude, which is related to social interaction, suggesting that gratitude fosters an appreciation for interpersonal relationships, providing a beneficial impetus for career crafting. A quantitative approach was adopted with a three-wave survey with 825 responses, and SPSS 26 and Mplus 8.3 were used as the analytical software for confirmatory factor analysis, hierarchical regression analysis, and path analysis. We conducted an empirical examination employing a moderated mediation model grounded in the framework of proactive motivation. The results revealed a positive correlation between gratitude and career crafting, with prosocial motivation mediating this relationship. Simultaneously, intrinsic motivation moderated the relationship between prosocial motivation and career crafting. Our study emphasizes gratitude’s role in career crafting and explores how it, along with prosocial motivations, drives proactive behaviors, responding to calls for relational work redesign and examining interactions between intrinsic and prosocial motivations in careers. It has important practical implications for individuals, organizations, and career counselors.

This research produced five hybrid-bonded fiber-reinforced plastic (HB-FRP)-reinforced beam specimens, and different fatigue load amplitudes were used as parameter variables for the fatigue performance tests of the FRP–concrete interface. The results show that FRP sliding with the number of cycles can be roughly divided into fatigue initiation stage, fatigue development stage, and fatigue damage stage, and finally, because the load is too large and friction, pin, and bonding cannot provide a greater inhibition effect, FRP adhesive length is not enough to withstand the stripping load and failure. FRP slip increases with increasing fatigue load amplitude for the same number of fatigue cycles; for the specimens with fatigue damage, the interfacial stiffness of FRP–concrete decreases with the increase in the number of cyclic, and the rate of stiffness damage at the FRP–concrete interface accelerates with increasing fatigue load amplitude. For fatigue load magnitudes higher than 0.6, the slopes of fatigue bond–slip curves decrease with the increase in the number of cycles. When the fatigue load magnitude is lower than 0.4, the slope of the fatigue bond–slip curve increases with the number of cycles and is close to the slope of the monotonically loaded curve. Due to the difference in load class, the bond strength of HB-F-1 continues to decrease with the increase in fatigue times, decreasing by 26% after 100 fatigue cycles and decreasing to 7.33 MPa after 5000 fatigue cycles. The bond strength of the sample HB-F-2 first increased and then decreased with the increase in fatigue times. After 10,000 fatigue cycles, the bond strength decreased by 8%, and at 11,133,300 fatigue breaks, the bond strength of the sample HB-F-3 continued to increase with the increase in fatigue times. At 2 million fatigue load cycles, the bond strength increased to 7 MPa, far from reaching the peak strength. The empirical formulas for the fatigue life curve of HB-FRP-reinforced specimens under single steel fasteners are proposed.

In order to improve quality assurance in wafer manufacturing, there are strict process requirements. Besides the well-known residency time constraints (RTCs), a dual-arm cluster tool also requires each robot arm to execute a specific set of tasks. We call such a tool an arm task-constrained dual-arm cluster tool (ATC-DACT). To do this, one of the arms is identified as the dirty one and the other as the clean one. The dirty one can deal with raw wafers, while the clean one can deal with processed wafers. This requirement raises a new problem for scheduling a cluster tool. This paper discusses the scheduling problem of ATC-DACTs with RTCs. Due to the arm task constraints, the proven, effective swap strategy is no longer applicable to ATC-DACTs, making the scheduling problem difficult. To address this problem, we explicitly describe the robot waiting as an event and build a Petri net (PN) model. Then, we propose a hybrid task sequence (HTS) as an operation strategy by combining the swap and backward strategies. Based on the HTS, the necessary and sufficient conditions for schedulability are established; also, a linear programming model is developed. We then develop an algorithm using these results to optimally schedule the system. Industrial case studies demonstrate the application of this method.

A Dy(III) coordination polymer (CP), [Dy(spasds)(H2O)2]n (1) (Na2Hspasds = 5-(4-sulfophenylazo)salicylic disodium salt), has been synthesized using a hydrothermal method and characterized. 1 features a 2D layered structure, where the spasda3− anions act as pentadentate ligands, adopting carboxylate, sulfonate and phenolate groups to bridge with four Dy centers in η3-μ1: μ2, η2-μ1: μ1, and monodentate coordination modes, respectively. It possesses a unique (4,4)-connected net with a Schläfli symbol of {44·62}{4}2. The luminescence study revealed that 1 exhibited a broad fluorescent emission band at 392 nm. Moreover, the visual blue color has been confirmed by the CIE plot. 1 can serve as a dual-functional luminescent sensor toward Fe3+ and MnO4− through the luminescence quenching effect, with limits of detection (LODs) of 9.30 × 10−7 and 1.19 × 10−6 M, respectively. The LODs are relatively low in comparison with those of the reported CP-based sensors for Fe3+ and MnO4−. In addition, 1 also has high selectivity and remarkable anti-interference ability, as well as good recyclability for at least five cycles. Furthermore, the potential application of the sensor for the detection of Fe3+ and MnO4− was studied through simulated wastewater samples with different concentrations. The possible sensing mechanisms were investigated using Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-Vis) absorption spectroscopy and density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The results revealed that the luminescence turn-off effects toward Fe3+ and MnO4− were caused by competitive absorption and photoinduced electron transfer (PET), and competitive absorption and inner filter effect (IFE), respectively.

The LB films prepared through the Langmuir–Blodgett (LB) technique are of significant importance for the fabrication of functional films such as optoelectronic materials and sensors. In this study, 9,9-bis (4-(2-hydroxy-ethoxy) phenyl) fluorene (BPEF) and 9,9-bis [3-phenyl-4-(β-hydroxy-ethoxy) phenyl] fluorene (BBPEF) were combined with saffron T (ST), methylene blue (MB) and Rhodamine B (RhB) dyes by LB technique to prepare ordered composite films. The nanostructures and morphologies of the composite films were analyzed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). It was found that the films exhibited distinct aggregation morphologies. The UV-VIS absorption spectra showed that the concentration of dye molecules had a significant effect on the spectral characteristics. The contact Angle test shows that the prepared composite films are hydrophobic. The photovoltaic conversion performance of LB composite films was studied by transient photocurrent response experiments. It was found that BPEF/dye and BBPEF/dye composite films exhibited significant responses in photocurrent. In particular, BPEF/RhB and BBPEF/RhB composite films demonstrated excellent photoresponsive performance. This study used LB technology in combination with BPEF and BBPEF to demonstrate enhanced photocurrent and stable performance of LB film, which provided ideas for expanding the application range of materials.

Cemented carbide circular saw blades are widely used for wood cutting, but they often suffer from vibration and noise issues. This study presents a multi-objective optimization method that integrates ANSYS and MATLAB to optimize the design of noise reduction slots in circular saw blades. A mathematical model was developed to correlate the emitted sound power with the overall vibration intensity. A multi-objective optimization model was then formulated to map the slot shape parameters to the deformation, equivalent stress, and vibration intensity during sawing. The ABAQUS thermal–mechanical coupling analysis was used to determine the sawing force and temperature field. The NSGA-II algorithm was applied on the ANSYS–MATLAB platform to iteratively compute slot shape parameters and conduct optimization searches for a globally optimal solution. Circular saw blades were fabricated based on the optimization results, and experimental results showed a significant reduction in sawing noise by 2.4 dB to 3.0 dB on average. The noise reduction effect within the specified frequency range closely agreed with the simulation results, validating the method’s efficiency. This study provides a feasible and cost-effective solution to the multi-objective optimization design problem of noise reduction slots for circular saw blades.

Tiger nut is the tuber of the perennial herbaceous plant Cyperus esculentus L., whose unique underground tubers are not only the main reproductive organ but also an important oil storage site. Oleosin is the most abundant structural protein in the oil body, which is an important membrane structural protein, playing a role in the formation and stability of lipid droplets in oilseed crops. Most studies have focused on the oleosin in oilseeds, but rarely on the oil containing tuber. In this study, nine oleosin genes from the Cyperus esculentus transcriptome were identified and divided into two groups via phylogenetic analysis. The expression patterns of the nine oleosins were examined through quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) in various development stages of stem tissue (35 d, 50 d, 75 d, 90 d, and 120 d after sowing). The subcellular localization of CeOle4 indicated that this protein was localized exclusively to membrane, indicating that it functioned in the plasma membrane. The highly expressed gene CeOle4 within the CeOleosin gene family was further transformed into yeast cells and plant materials. The results demonstrate that CeOle4 can promote lipid synthesis, enhancing the stability of oil lipids at low temperature and changing seed phenotypic traits. This discovery addresses and enriches the research on the function of CeOleosin genes and lays the groundwork for future studies on novel and superior transgenic crops related to tiger nut.

Greenways are an important component of urban green infrastructure. User experiences and visual preferences are highly related to human well-being. The influencing factors of user experience and the relationship between environmental attributes with visual preference were explored by using the analytic hierarchy process method and questionnaire experiments. In this study, the analytic hierarchy process was conducted to construct the users’ experience evaluation system, and three methods were used to reveal the influencing factors of the users’ experience in the Mulan River greenway, China. The connection between visual perception and environmental attributes was also identified. The results show that the site leveling, plant landscape aesthetics, and air quality are the main factors affecting user experience. The most significant factor influencing visual preference is the green view index. The green view index can promote visual preference within 60%. Various environmental features contribute to visual preference, providing quantitative support for enhancing landscape quality. This research reveals the factors of visual preference that contribute to forming scientific recommendations for the management and quality improvement of the Mulan River greenway.

A precise Johnson-Cook (J–C) constitutive model is the foundation for precise calculation of finite-element simulation. In order to obtain the J–C constitutive model accurately for a new cast and forged alloy GH4198, an inverse identification of J–C constitutive model was proposed based on a genetic–particle swarm algorithm. Firstly, a quasi-static tensile test at different strain rates was conducted to determine the initial yield strength A, strain hardening coefficient B, and work hardening exponent n for the material’s J–C model. Secondly, a new method for orthogonal cutting model was constructed based on the unequal division shear theory and considering the influence of tool edge radius. In order to obtain the strain-rate strengthening coefficient C and thermal softening coefficient m, an orthogonal cutting experiment was conducted. Finally, in order to validate the precision of the constitutive model, an orthogonal cutting thermo-mechanical coupling simulation model was established. Meanwhile, the sensitivity of J–C constitutive model parameters on simulation results was analyzed. The results indicate that the parameter m significantly affects chip morphology, and that the parameter C has a notable impact on the cutting force. This study addressed the issue of missing constitutive parameters for GH4198 and provided a theoretical reference for the optimization and identification of constitutive models for other aerospace materials.

GhPEL48_Dt, a Pectate lyase (PEL, EC4.2.2.2), is a crucial enzyme involved in cell-wall modification and pectin degradation. Studies have shown that the GhPEL48_Dt also plays a significant role in cotton-fiber development; however, the specific function and regulatory mechanism of GhPEL48_Dt in cotton-fiber development are still not fully understood. Here, we found that the histone deacetylase inhibitor-Trichostatin A significantly reduces the transcript levels of GhPEL48_Dt and its enzyme activity. Further, silencing of GhPEL48_Dt significantly inhibits the initiation and elongation of cotton fibers by promoting pectin degradation, and the heterologous expression of GhPEL48_Dt promotes the development of trichomes and root hairs in Arabidopsis, which suggests that GhPEL48_Dt plays a positive and conserved role in single cell i.e., fiber, root hair, and leaf trichome development. Collectively, this paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the fundamental characteristics and functions of GhPEL48_Dt in fiber development, including the regulatory role of histone acetylation on GhPEL48_Dt, which contributes to the understanding of pectin degradation pathways and establishes a theoretical foundation for elucidating its regulatory mechanism.

Cadmium (Cd) is a toxic heavy metal that accumulates in plants, negatively affecting their physiological processes, growth, and development, and poses a threat to human health through the food chain. 6-phosphogluconolactonase (PGL) is a key enzyme in the Oxidative Pentose Phosphate Pathway(OPPP) in plant cells, essential for cellular metabolism. The OPPP pathway provides energy and raw materials for organisms and is involved in antioxidant reactions, lipid metabolism, and DNA synthesis. This study describes the Cd responsive gene AetPGL from Aegilops tauschii. Overexpression of AetPGL under Cd stress increased main root length and germination rate in Arabidopsis. Transgenic lines showed higher antioxidant enzyme activities and lower malondialdehyde (MDA) content compared to the wild type. The transgenic Arabidopsis accumulated more Cd in the aboveground part but not in the underground part. Expression levels of AtHMA3, AtNRAMP5, and AtZIP1 in the roots of transgenic plants increased under Cd stress, suggesting AetPGL may enhance Cd transport from root to shoot. Transcriptome analysis revealed enrichment of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the plant hormone signal transduction pathway in AetPGL-overexpressing plants. Brassinosteroids (BR), Gibbenellin acid (GA), and Jasmonic acid (JA) contents significantly increased after Cd treatment. These results indicate that AetPGL may enhance Arabidopsis’ tolerance to Cd by modulating plant hormone content. In conclusion, AetPGL plays a critical role in improving cadmium tolerance and accumulation and mitigating oxidative stress by regulating plant hormones, providing insights into the molecular mechanisms of plant Cd tolerance.

In the context of rapid growth in renewable energy installations and increasingly severe consumption issues, this paper designs a 100% green electricity supplied zero-carbon integrated energy station. It aims to analyze its configuration focusing on the following three core features: zero carbon emissions, 100% green electricity supply, and a centralized–distributed system structure. It discusses equipment selection and provides models for configuring upstream green electricity resources, power generation, energy storage, transformer, and energy conversion. The study examines the synergy between lithium-ion battery storage and modular molten salt thermal storage, along with the virtual energy storage characteristics formed by thermal load inertia, supported by mathematical models. Based on the data from a green electricity system in an Eastern Chinese city and typical load profiles, the paper validates a specific configuration for a 100% green electricity supplied zero-carbon integrated energy station, confirming model accuracy and calculating the required scale of upstream green electricity resources. It proves that establishing an electro-thermal storage synergy system is crucial for addressing the significant fluctuations in renewable energy output. It also argues that leveraging thermal load inertia to create virtual storage can reduce the investment in energy storage system construction.

As a euryhaline fish species that inhabits estuarine and coastal regions, the spotbanded scat (Selenotoca multifasciata) experiences growth influences during its larval stage due to variations in salinity. Here, we evaluated salinity required by early-stage spotbanded scat juveniles to achieve the highest growth performance, digestive enzyme activity, survival, and antioxidant capacity. We reared spotbanded scat juveniles (all 0.50 ± 0.05 g) in 0–35‰ salinity gradients for 50 days and recorded their survival rate every 10 days. After 50 experimental days, we measured morphological data, stomach and intestinal digestive enzyme activities, and liver antioxidant enzyme activities and malondialdehyde contents. In general, 5–15‰ salinity led to 100% survival. The 5‰ salinity group demonstrated the highest values for the following measures: final wet body weight; weight gain rate; specific growth rate; growth percentage; average daily gain; stomach amylase and lipase specific activities; and intestinal amylase, lipase, trypsin, and pepsin specific activities. However, stomach trypsin and pepsin activities did not demonstrate significant between-group differences (all p > 0.05). The 25‰ salinity group demonstrated the highest liver superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activities and malondialdehyde content. Finally, the 0‰ salinity group demonstrated the highest liver catalase activity. Thus, spotbanded scat juveniles demonstrate the highest survival rates, growth performance, and digestive enzyme activity at 5‰ salinity and the strongest oxidative stress responses at 25‰ salinity.

Amidst the transition from agriculture to tourism, ethnic villages are facing issues of “misalignment” and “disequilibrium” between economic growth and cultural heritage conservation. Previous research has often isolated the effects of cultural heritage conservation or socio-economic development, neglecting their reciprocal influences within the coupling coordination. This study addresses this gap by assessing 43 villages in Leishan County, quantifying the preservation status of the cultural landscape (PSCL) and socio-economic level (SEL) using a comprehensive evaluation model and revealing the coupling coordination relationship between PSCL and SEL in each village with the coupling coordination degree (CCD) model. Spatial autocorrelation and the geographical detector model reveal the spatial agglomeration characteristics and influential factors of the CCD. The results highlight three findings. (1) The majority of villages (93%) are in a moderate imbalance stage or a serious imbalance stage, underscoring an urgent need for targeted policies. (2) Spatial autocorrelation analysis exposes significant clustering, with the northwest corner exhibiting the most pronounced high-value aggregation, which contrasts with the southern region’s low-value clustering. A ‘low–high’ clustering pattern is observed in the northern region, while the southwestern corner presents a ‘high–low’ distribution. (3) Key determinants affecting the CCD include the tourism revenue, tourist volume, resident participation in tourism, village hollowing level, and number of historical buildings. The interactions between driving factors show non-linear and two-factor enhancement effects. This study concludes with policy recommendations advocating for context-specific strategies to enhance the CCD, emphasizing the importance of aligning cultural preservation with economic progress in ethnic villages.

Heavy metal pollution not only causes detrimental effects on the environment but also poses threats to human health; thus, it is crucial to monitor the heavy metal content in the soil. Hyperspectral technology, characterized by high spectral resolution, rapid response, and non-destructive detection, is widely employed in soil composition monitoring. This study aims to investigate the effects of dimensionality reduction methods on the performance of hyperspectral inversion. To this end, 56 soil samples were collected in Daye, with the corresponding hyperspectral data acquired by the advanced ASD Fieldspec4 instrument. We employed the linear dimensionality reduction method, i.e., the principal component analysis (PCA), and non-linear method in terms of kernel PCA (KPCA) with polynomial, radial basis function (RBF), and sigmoid kernels to reduce the dimensionalities of original spectral reflectance and that processed by first-derivative transformation (FDT). Building upon this foundation, we applied the Adaptive Boosting (AdaBoost) algorithm for inverting the soil copper (Cu) content. The performance of each inversion model was evaluated by evaluation indices in terms of the coefficient of determination (R2), root-mean-square error (RMSE), and residual prediction deviation (RPD). The results revealed that the KPCA with polynomial kernel function applied to the FDT-based spectra could yield the optimal inversion accuracy, with corresponding R2, RMSE, and RPD being 0.86, 21.47 mg·kg−1, and 2.72, respectively. This study demonstrates that applying the FDT with KPCA processing can significantly improve the accuracy of the hyperspectral inversion for soil Cu content, providing a potential approach for monitoring heavy metal pollution using hyperspectral technology.

Accurate and reliable short-term runoff prediction plays a pivotal role in water resource management, agriculture, and flood control, enabling decision-makers to implement timely and effective measures to enhance water use efficiency and minimize losses. To further enhance the accuracy of runoff prediction, this study proposes a FA-LSTM model that integrates the Firefly algorithm (FA) with the long short-term memory neural network (LSTM). The research focuses on historical daily runoff data from the Dahuangjiangkou and Wuzhou Hydrology Stations in the Xijiang River Basin. The FA-LSTM model is compared with RNN, LSTM, GRU, SVM, and RF models. The FA-LSTM model was used to carry out the generalization experiment in Qianjiang, Wuxuan, and Guigang hydrology stations. Additionally, the study analyzes the performance of the FA-LSTM model across different forecasting horizons (1–5 days). Four quantitative evaluation metrics—mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE), coefficient of determination (R2), and Kling–Gupta efficiency coefficient (KGE)—are utilized in the evaluation process. The results indicate that: (1) Compared to RNN, LSTM, GRU, SVM, and RF models, the FA-LSTM model exhibits the best prediction performance, with daily runoff prediction determination coefficients (R2) reaching as high as 0.966 and 0.971 at the Dahuangjiangkou and Wuzhou Stations, respectively, and the KGE is as high as 0.965 and 0.960, respectively. (2) FA-LSTM model was used to conduct generalization tests at Qianjiang, Wuxuan and Guigang hydrology stations, and its R2 and KGE are 0.96 or above, indicating that the model has good adaptability in different hydrology stations and strong robustness. (3) As the prediction period extends, the R2 and KGE of the FA-LSTM model show a decreasing trend, but the whole model still showed feasible forecasting ability. The FA-LSTM model introduced in this study presents an effective new approach for daily runoff prediction.

With the rapid development of modern industry, it is urgently needed to measure the biotoxicity of complex chemicals. Microbial electrochemical biotoxicity sensors are an attractive technology; however, their application is usually limited by their stability and reusability after measurements. Here, we improve their performance by encapsulating the electroactive biofilm with polydopamine (PDA), and we evaluate the improvement by different concentrations of heavy metal ions (Cu2+, Ag+, and Fe3+) in terms of inhibition ratio (IR) and durability. Results indicate that the PDA-encapsulated sensor exhibits a more significant detection concentration than the control group, with a 3-fold increase for Cu2+ and a 1.5-fold increase for Ag+. Moreover, it achieves 15 more continuous toxicity tests than the control group, maintaining high electrochemical activity even after continuous toxicity impacts. Images from a confocal laser scanning microscope reveal that the PDA encapsulation protects the activity of the electroactive biofilm. The study, thus, demonstrates that PDA encapsulation is efficacious in improving the performance of microbial electrochemical biotoxicity sensors, which can extend its application to more complex media.

Climate change restricts and alters the distribution range of plant species. Predicting potential distribution and population dynamics is crucial to understanding species’ geographical distribution characteristics to harness their economic and ecological benefits. This study uses Dendrocalamus brandisii as the research subject, aiming to accurately reveal the impact of climate change on this plant. The findings offer important insights for developing practical conservation and utilization strategies, and guidance for future introduction and cultivation. The MaxEnt model was optimized using regularization multiplier (RM) and feature combination (FC) from the ‘Kuenm’ package in R language, coupled with ArcGIS for modeling 142 distribution points and 29 environmental factors of D. brandisii. This article explored the key environmental factors influencing the potential suitable regions for D. brandisii, and predicted trends in habitat changes under SSPs2.6 and SSPs8.5 climate scenarios for the current era, the 2050s, 2070s, and 2090s. (1) The results show that when FC = QPH and RM = 1, the AUC = 0.989, indicating that the model prediction is accurate with the lowest complexity and overfitting. The key environmental factors affecting its primary suitable distribution, determined by jackknife training gain and single-factor response curve, are the precipitation of warmest quarter (bio18), the temperature seasonality (bio4), the minimum average monthly radiation (uvb-4), and elevation (Elev), contributing 93.6% collectively. It was established that the optimal range for D. brandisii is precipitation of warmest quarter of between 657 and 999 mm, temperature seasonality from 351% to 442%, minimum average monthly radiation from 2420 to 2786 J/m2/day, at elevation from 1099 to 2217 m. (2) The current potential habitat distribution is somewhat fragmented, covering an area of 92.17 × 104 km2, mainly located in southwest, south, and southeast China, central Nepal, southern Bhutan, eastern India, northwestern Myanmar, northern Laos, and northern Vietnam. (3) In future periods, under different climate scenario models, the potential habitat of D. brandisii will change in varying degrees to become more fragmented, with its distribution center generally shifting westward. The SSP8.5 scenario is not as favorable for the growth of D. brandisii as the SSPs2.6. Central Nepal, southern Bhutan, and the southeastern coastal areas of China have the potential to become another significant cultivation region for D. brandisii. The results provide a scientific basis for the planning of priority planting locations for potential introduction of D. brandisii in consideration of its cultivation ranges.

The electron beam cold hearth melting (EBCHM) process is one of the key processes for titanium alloy production. However, EBCHM is prone to cause elemental volatilization and segregation during the melting of aluminum-containing titanium alloys such as Ti-6wt%Al-4wt%V. To gain deeper insights into the physical and chemical phenomena occurring during the EBCHM process, this paper establishes melting process models for the Ti-6wt%Al-4wt%V titanium alloy in a crystallizer with multiple overflow inlets. It examines the evolution of melt pool morphology, flow dynamics, heat transfer, and mass transfer during the casting process. The results indicate that the design of multi-overflow inlets can effectively suppress the longitudinal development of impact pits within the melt pool, thereby preventing the formation of solidification defects such as leaks in the melt. Concurrently, the diversion effect of multi-overflow inlets significantly enhances the elemental homogeneity within the melt pool. At a casting speed of 20 mm/min and a casting temperature of 2273 K, compared to a single overflow inlet, the design with three overflow inlets can reduce the depth of thermal impact pits within the crystallizer by 132 mm and decrease the maximum concentration difference in the Al element within the crystallizer by 0.933 wt.%. The aforementioned simulation results provide a theoretical basis for the control of metallurgical and solidification defects in large-scale titanium alloy ingots.

Polyploids are essential in plant evolution and species formation, providing a rich genetic reservoir and increasing species diversity. Complex polyploids with higher ploidy levels often have a dosage effect on the phenotype, which can be highly detrimental to gametes, making them rare. In this study, offspring plants resulting from an autoallotetraploid (RRRC) derived from the interspecific hybridization between allotetraploid Raphanobrassica (RRCC, 2n = 36) and diploid radish (RR, 2n = 18) were obtained. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) using C-genome-specific repeats as probes revealed two main genome configurations in these offspring plants: RRRCC (2n = 43, 44, 45) and RRRRCC (2n = 54, 55), showing more complex genome configurations and higher ploidy levels compared to the parental plants. These offspring plants exhibited extensive variation in phenotypic characteristics, including leaf type and flower type and color, as well as seed and pollen fertility. Analysis of chromosome behavior showed that homoeologous chromosome pairing events are widely observed at the diakinesis stage in the pollen mother cells (PMCs) of these allopolyploids, with a range of 58.73% to 78.33%. Moreover, the unreduced C subgenome at meiosis anaphase II in PMCs was observed, which provides compelling evidence for the formation of complex allopolyploid offspring. These complex allopolyploids serve as valuable genetic resources for further analysis and contribute to our understanding of the mechanisms underlying the formation of complex allopolyploids.

Inconel 706 (IN706) alloy is commonly used in aircraft engines and power plant components that must meet very high performance requirements. The stabilization treatment has a significant effect on the precipitation and evolution of the reinforcing phases of the alloy, favoring the creep properties and adversely affecting the room-temperature tensile properties. However, the mechanism of the effect of the stabilization treatment on the mechanical properties of the alloys remains unclear. In this study, the effect of stabilization treatment time on the microstructure and tensile properties of IN706 alloy was investigated. The results showed that as the stabilization time gradually increased, the tensile strength remained basically unchanged (about 1250 MPa), the yield strength decreased from 1031 MPa to 985 MPa, and the plasticity decreased from 28.2% to 20.2%. The stabilization treatment induces the precipitation of granular, rod-shaped, and needle-like η phases at grain boundaries, accompanied by the appearance of a precipitate free zone (PFZ). Since the η phase is enriched with Ti and Nb, its precipitation along the grain boundary results in the depletion of Ti and Nb in the surrounding regions, thereby constraining the precipitation of the γ′ and γ″ phases, resulting in the appearance of PFZ. With increasing stabilization time, the size increase and volume fraction decrease in γ′-γ″ co-precipitates due to the precipitation of η-phase precipitates, leading to a decrease in their yield strength. Combined with in situ tensile tests, it was found that the decrease in the elongation of the stabilization treatment samples was due to the presence of η phase at the grain boundaries, which induced stress concentration and cracking at the grain boundaries. The results show that the mechanical properties of the material were gradually enhanced as the stabilization time decreased. This means it can help to choose the suitable process for IN706 alloy in different service conditions.

As the understanding of natural gas hydrates as a vast potential resource deepens, their importance as a future clean energy source becomes increasingly evident. However, natural gas hydrates trend towards secondary generation during extraction and transportation, leading to safety issues such as pipeline blockages. Consequently, developing new and efficient natural gas hydrate inhibitors has become a focal point in hydrate research. Kinetic hydrate inhibitors (KHIs) offer an effective solution by disrupting the nucleation and growth processes of hydrates without altering their thermodynamic equilibrium conditions. This paper systematically reviews the latest research progress and development trends in KHIs for natural gas hydrates, covering their development history, classification, and inhibition mechanisms. It particularly focuses on the chemical properties, inhibition effects, and mechanisms of polymer inhibitors such as polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and polyvinylcaprolactam (PVCap). Studies indicate that these polymer inhibitors provide an economical and efficient solution due to their low dosage and environmental friendliness. Additionally, this paper explores the environmental impact and biodegradability of these inhibitors, offering guidance for future research, including the development, optimization, and environmental assessment of new inhibitors. Through a comprehensive analysis of existing research, this work aims to provide a theoretical foundation and technical reference for the commercial development of natural gas hydrates, promoting their safe and efficient use as a clean energy resource.

Abrin and ricin, both type II ribosome-inactivating proteins, are toxins of significant concern and are under international restriction by the Chemical Weapons Convention and the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention. The development of a rapid and sensitive detection method for these toxins is of the utmost importance for the first emergency response. Emerging rapid detection techniques, such as surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) and lateral flow assay (LFA), have garnered attention due to their high sensitivity, good selectivity, ease of operation, low cost, and disposability. In this work, we generated stable and high-affinity nanotags, via an efficient freezing method, to serve as the capture module for SERS-LFA. We then constructed a sandwich-style lateral flow test strip using a pair of glycoproteins, asialofetuin and concanavalin A, as the core affinity recognition molecules, capable of trace measurement for both abrin and ricin. The limit of detection for abrin and ricin was 0.1 and 0.3 ng/mL, respectively. This method was applied to analyze eight spiked white powder samples, one juice sample, and three actual botanic samples, aligning well with cytotoxicity assay outcomes. It demonstrated good inter-batch and intra-batch reproducibility among the test strips, and the detection could be completed within 15 min, indicating the suitability of this SERS-LFA method for the on-site rapid detection of abrin and ricin toxins.

Telecoupling interregional resource interaction based on cultivated land grain production (CLGP) plays a crucial role in ensuring national food security and advancing sustainable socio-environmental and economic development. Based on the provincial panel data of 31 administrative regions in China from 1990 to 2020, we used the spatial and temporal evolution of CLGP and the global Moran index to detect the spatial correlation of CLGP among the provinces in China; we adopted the SDM to study the telecoupling effect of CLGP among the provinces in China and decompose the effect, enabling us to propose policy recommendations for enhancing the telecoupling effect among the provinces. The results are as follows: (1) China’s inter-provincial CLGP has shown an increasingly strong telecoupling effect over time, further validating the scientific nature of China’s grain production pattern. (2) Cultivated land, irrigation area, the number of agricultural employees, the power of agricultural machinery, the proportion of grain sown, and total grain production have positive “flow” effects on spatial teleconnections between provinces and regions. (3) In terms of the total telecoupling effect, the most significant factor affecting CLGP is the ratio of the area sown with grain to the total area sown with crops. Meanwhile, the area of cultivated land in each region, the irrigated area, the agricultural labor force, the agricultural machinery total power, and the percentage of grain sowing in each region have the most direct telecoupling effect on CLGP. The conduct of the study further fleshes out the empirical research on interregional resource telecoupling linkages arising from resource deployment and utilization.

In recent years, trade protectionism and unilateralism have prevailed, and countries around the world have imposed restrictions on log exports. It has also become more difficult for China to import wood resources and export deep-processed wood forest products. Based on panel data from 2000 to 2019, this study uses social network analysis to measure the level of the Chinese wood forest product trade network, takes the Chinese free trade agreements (FTAs) as the natural experiment, and uses the multi-stage double-difference method to investigate the impact of the signed FTAs on China’s wood forest product trade. The study finds that the trade network of Chinese wood forest products is becoming increasingly complex, and the central position of China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in the network is increasing year by year. The signing of FTAs has had a significant positive impact on the trade of wood forest products in China and a significant trade creation effect. This finding remains true after conducting the placebo test and propensity score-matched regression control. At the same time, the import of wood forest products in China will have a significant trade transfer effect due to the signing of FTAs, and this will not affect exports. Although FTAs show significant trade creation and trade transfer effects in China’s wood forest product trade, they also increase, to a certain extent, the mismatch of forest resources worldwide.

Different types of soil macropores respond differently to various tillage practices, owing to disparities in origin, scale, morphology, and function, consequently exerting distinct effects on soil structure. This study aimed to investigate the response mechanisms of three different soil pore types (total macropores, non-biopores, and biopores) to two distinct tillage practices: smash-ridging tillage (T) and no-tillage (NT) in sugarcane fields. The parameters characterizing soil pore treatments in two and three dimensions were obtained using X-ray computed tomography scanning technology. ImageJ and MATLAB software were employed to analyze the data and separate soil macropores into biopores and non-biopores categories. The results showed that non-biopores predominated in two-dimensional cross-sectional areas in NT treatment, whereas biopores were more dominant in T treatment. Biopores in T treatment had a higher proportion of two-dimensional pores compared to NT treatment. A three-dimensional analysis indicated that total macropores had larger mean diameters (MD) and macroporosity, with more continuous tubular pores in T treatment than that in NT treatment. However, NT treatment had more numerous non-biopores with broader spatial distribution and complex morphology. Additionally, biopores in T treatment had larger MD and branching length density (LD). These vertically developed biopores, along with high macropore connectivity and under smash-ridging tillage, could improve soil water and pore conductivity. Therefore, smash-ridging tillage was more beneficial for sugarcane growth compared to no-tillage in Guangxi of China.

Boron-doped diamond thin films exhibit extensive applications in chemical sensing, in which the performance could be further enhanced by nano-structuring of the surfaces. In order to discover the relationship between diamond nanostructures and properties, this paper is dedicated to deep learning target detection methods. However, great challenges, such as noise, unclear target boundaries, and mutual occlusion between targets, are inevitable during the target detection of nanostructures. To tackle these challenges, DWS-YOLOv8 (DCN + WIoU + SA + YOLOv8n) is introduced to optimize the YOLOv8n model for the detection of diamond nanostructures. A deformable convolutional C2f (DCN_C2f) module is integrated into the backbone network, as is a shuffling attention (SA) mechanism, for adaptively tuning the perceptual field of the network and reducing the effect of noise. Finally, Wise-IoU (WIoU)v3 is utilized as a bounding box regression loss to enhance the model’s ability to localize diamond nanostructures. Compared to YOLOv8n, a 9.4% higher detection accuracy is achieved for the present model with reduced computational complexity. Additionally, the enhancement of precision (P), recall (R), mAP@0.5, and mAP@0.5:0.95 is demonstrated, which validates the effectiveness of the present DWS-YOLOv8 method. These methods provide effective support for the subsequent understanding and customization of the properties of surface nanostructures.

In semiconductor manufacturing, multi-space process modules (PMs) are adopted in some cluster tools for wafer processing. With multi-space PMs, a PM can have multiple wafers concurrently. Also, the internal chamber in a PM should rotate to make the robot able to load/unload a wafer into/from a space in the PM. This means that the wafer staying time in PMs is affected by both the rotation operations of the internal chambers of PMs and the robot tasks. Thus, minimizing the wafer delay time is quite challenging. In this work, for cluster tools with single-arm robots and two-space PMs, efforts are made for wafer delay minimization in scheduling the tools. Specifically, a two-wafer backward strategy is presented to operate the tools in a steady state. Then, the workloads of each processing step and the robot are analyzed. Further, to find optimal schedules with the objective of minimizing the total wafer delay time, efficient algorithms are established. Finally, case studies show that the wafer delay time at some steps can be totally eliminated by the proposed method. In the meantime, in all cases, the proposed method can work well in reducing the total wafer delay time at all steps.

The electron beam cold hearth melting (EBCHM) process is one of the key processes for titanium alloy production. The unique characteristic of this pyrometallurgy process is the application of the cold hearth, which is responsible for controlling the Low-Density Inclusions (LDIs) and High-Density Inclusions (HDIs) in the melt. As a key process of inclusion removal, the information such as melt residence time in the cold hearth is directly related to the control of metallurgical defects in the ingot, and may also affect the composition distribution of the ingot. In this paper, the details for the physical phenomena, namely the evolution of the pool, the evolution of the flow, and the evolution of the component in the cold hearth during EBCHM are investigated using a modified multi-physical numerical model. The effects of melting temperature and melting speed on these phenomena were investigated. The purpose is to provide more fundamental knowledge and to further enhance the applications of EBCHM for more titanium alloys.

A novel coordination polymer [Zn(atyha)2]n (1) (Hatyha = 2-(2-aminothiazole-4-yl)-2- hydroxyiminoacetic acid) was constructed by hydrothermal reaction of Zn2+ with Hatyha ligand. CP 1 exhibits a 2D (4,4)-connected topological framework with Schläfli symbol of {44·62}, where atyha− anions serve as tridentate ligands, bridging with Zn2+ through carboxylate, thiazole and oxime groups. CP 1 displays a strong ligand-based photoluminescence at 390 nm in the solid state, and remains significantly structurally stable in water. Interestingly, it can be utilized as a fluorescent probe for selective and sensitive sensing of Fe3+, Cr2O72− and MnO4− through the fluorescent turn-off effect with limit of detection (LOD) of 3.66 × 10−6, 2.38 × 10−5 and 2.94 × 10−6 M, respectively. Moreover, the efficient recyclability for detection of Fe3+ and Cr2O72− is better than that for MnO4−. The mechanisms of fluorescent quenching involve reversible overlap of UV-Vis absorption bands of the analytes (Fe3+, Cr2O72− and MnO4−) with fluorescence excitation and emission bands for CP 1, respectively.

Recycling flexible polyurethane foam (F-PUF) scraps is difficult due to the material’s high cross-linking structure. In this work, a wedge-block-reinforced extruder with a considerable enhanced shear extrusion and stretching area between the rotating screw and the stationary wedge blocks was utilized to recycle F-PUF scraps into powder containing surface-active hydroxyl groups. The powder was then utilized for the quantitative replacement of polyol in the foaming process. Characterizations showed that the continuous shear extrusion and stretching during the extrusion process reduced the volume mean diameter (VMD) of the F-PUF powder obtained by extruding it three times at room temperature to reach 54 μm. The -OH number (OHN) of the powder prepared by extruding it three times reached 19.51 mgKOH/g due to the mechanochemical effect of the powdering method. The F-PUF containing recycled powder used to quantitively replace 10 wt.% polyol was similar in microstructure and chemical structure to the original F-PUF, with a compression set of 2%, indentation load deflection of 21.3 lbf, resilience of 43.4%, air permeability of 815.7 L/m2·s, tensile strength of 73.0 Kpa, and tear strength of 2.3 N/cm, indicating that the recycling method has potential for industrial applications.

Deep sowing is an efficient strategy for maize to ensure the seedling emergence rate under adverse conditions such as drought or low temperatures. However, the genetic basis of deep-sowing tolerance-related traits in maize remains largely unknown. In this study, we performed a genome-wide association study on traits related to deep-sowing tolerance, including mesocotyl length (ML), coleoptile length (CL), plumule length (PL), shoot length (SL), and primary root length (PRL), using 255 maize inbred lines grown in three different environments. We identified 23, 6, 4, and 4 quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with ML, CL, PL, and SL, respectively. By analyzing candidate genes within these QTLs, we found a γ-tubulin-containing complex protein, ZmGCP2, which was significantly associated with ML, PL, and SL. Loss of function of ZmGCP2 resulted in decreased PL, possibly by affecting the cell elongation, thus affecting SL. Additionally, we identified superior haplotypes and allelic variations of ZmGCP2 with a longer PL and SL, which may be useful for breeding varieties with deep-sowing tolerance to improve maize cultivation.

Chloroplasts and mitochondria, descendants of ancient prokaryotes via endosymbiosis, occupy a pivotal position in plant growth and development due to their intricate connections with the nuclear genome. Genes encoded by the nuclear genome but relocated to or being functional within these organelles are commonly referred as organelle-targeting nuclear genes (ONGs). These genes are essential for maintaining cytonuclear coordination, thereby determining the stability of the life cycle. While molecular function and cytonuclear coordination of some endosymbiosis-derived ONGs (E-ONGs) have been extensively studied, the evolutionary history and characteristics from a more widespread range of non-endosymbiosis-derived ONGs (NE-ONGs) remain largely enigmatic. In this study, we focused on 12 representative species within the Poaceae family to systematically identify NE-ONGs and investigated their evolutionary history and functional significance on a phylogenetic timescale. Upon aligning these 12 species’ evolutionary histories, we observed the following phenomena: (i) an exploration of NE-ONGs between the BOP and PACMAD clades unveiled dynamic compositions, potentially influencing their photosynthetic divergence; (ii) the majority of the abundant species-specific NE-ONGs exist in a single-copy status, and functional enrichment analysis further underscored their specialized roles, which could be crucial for species adaptation; and (iii) comparative analyses between plasmid- and mitochondria-related NE-ONGs (pNE-ONGs and mNE-ONGs) revealed a prevalence of pNE-ONGs, indicating tighter control for chloroplast function in Poaceae. In summary, this study offers novel insights into the cytonuclear co-evolutionary dynamics in Poaceae speciation and draws attention to crop improvement by using NE-ONGs.

Studying the spatio-temporal changes and driving mechanisms of vegetation’s net primary productivity (NPP) is critical for achieving green and low-carbon development, as well as the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals. This article employs various analytical approaches, including the Carnegie–Ames–Stanford approach (CASA) model, Theil–Sen median estimator, coefficient of variation, Hurst index, and land-use and land-cover change (LUCC) transition matrix, to conduct a thorough study of NPP variations in the Shandong Hilly Plain (SDHP) region. Furthermore, the geographic detector method was used to investigate the synergistic effects of meteorological changes and human activities on NPP in this region. Between 2000 and 2020, the vegetation NPP in the SDHP exhibited an average increase rate of 0.537 g C·m−2·a−1. However, the fluctuation in mean annual NPP, ranging from 203 to 230 g C·m−2·a−1, underscores an uneven growth pattern. Significant regional disparities are evident in vegetation NPP, gradually ascending from the southeast to the northwest and from the coastal areas to inland regions. The average Hurst index for the entire study area stands at 0.556, indicating an overall sustained growth trend in the time series of SDHP vegetation NPP. The vegetation NPP changes in SDHP can be well explained by climate variables (mean annual temperature, mean annual precipitation) and human activities (LUCC, night light index); of these, LUCC (q = 0.684) has the highest explanatory power on the impact of NPP and is a major influencing factor. This study deepens the understanding of the driving factors and patterns of vegetation’s dynamic response to climate change and human activities in the SDHP region. At the same time, it provides valuable scientific insights for improving ecosystem quality and promoting the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.

Ricin and abrin are highly potent plant-derived toxins, categorized as type II ribosome-inactivating proteins. High toxicity, accessibility, and the lack of effective countermeasures make them potential agents in bioterrorism and biowarfare, posing significant threats to public safety. Despite the existence of many effective analytical strategies for detecting these two lethal toxins, current methods are often hindered by limitations such as insufficient sensitivity, complex sample preparation, and most importantly, the inability to distinguish between biologically active and inactive toxin. In this study, a cytotoxicity assay was developed to detect active ricin and abrin based on their potent cell-killing capability. Among nine human cell lines derived from various organs, HeLa cells exhibited exceptional sensitivity, with limits of detection reaching 0.3 ng/mL and 0.03 ng/mL for ricin and abrin, respectively. Subsequently, toxin-specific neutralizing monoclonal antibodies MIL50 and 10D8 were used to facilitate the precise identification and differentiation of ricin and abrin. The method provides straightforward and sensitive detection in complex matrices including milk, plasma, coffee, orange juice, and tea via a simple serial-dilution procedure without any complex purification and enrichment steps. Furthermore, this assay was successfully applied in the unambiguous identification of active ricin and abrin in samples from OPCW biotoxin exercises.

8-17 DNAzymes (8-17, 17E, Mg5, and 17EV1) are in vitro-selected catalytic DNA molecules that are capable of cleaving complementary RNAs. The conserved residues in their similar catalytic cores, together with the metal ions, were suggested to contribute to the catalytic reaction. Based on the contribution of the less conserved residues in the bulge loop residues (W12, A15, A15.0) and the internal stem, new catalytic cores of 8-17 DNAzymes were programmed. The internal stem CTC-GAG seems to be more favorable for the DNAzymes than CCG-GGC, while an extra W12.0 led to a significant loss of activity of DNAzymes, which is contrary to the positive effect of A15.0, by which a new active DNAzyme 17EM was derived. It conducts a faster reaction than 17E. It is most active in the presence of Pb2+, with the metal ion preference of Pb2+ >> Zn2+ > Mn2+ > Ca2+ ≈ Mg2+. In the Pb2+ and Zn2+-mediated reactions of 17EM and 17E, the same Na+- and pH dependence were also observed as what was observed for 17E and other 8-17 DNAzymes. Therefore, 17EM is another member of the 8-17 DNAzymes, and it could be applied as a potential biosensor for RNA and metal ions.

Vaccinium duclouxii, a wild blueberry species native to the mountainous regions of southwestern China, is notable for its exceptionally high anthocyanin content, surpassing that of many cultivated varieties and offering significant research potential. Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are versatile enzymes crucial for anthocyanin transport in plants. Yet, the GST gene family had not been previously identified in V. duclouxii. This study utilized a genome-wide approach to identify and characterize the GST gene family in V. duclouxii, revealing 88 GST genes grouped into seven distinct subfamilies. This number is significantly higher than that found in closely related species, with these genes distributed across 12 chromosomes and exhibiting gene clustering. A total of 46 members are classified as tandem duplicates. The gene structure of VdGST is relatively conserved among related species, showing closer phylogenetic relations to V. bracteatum and evidence of purifying selection. Transcriptomic analysis and qRT-PCR indicated that VdGSTU22 and VdGSTU38 were highly expressed in flowers, VdGSTU29 in leaves, and VdGSTF11 showed significant expression in ripe and fully mature fruits, paralleling trends seen with anthocyanin accumulation. Subcellular localization identified VdGSTF11 primarily in the plasma membrane, suggesting a potential role in anthocyanin accumulation in V. duclouxii fruits. This study provides a foundational basis for further molecular-level functional analysis of the transport and accumulation of anthocyanins in V. duclouxii, enhancing our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying anthocyanin metabolism in this valuable species.

In this study, a highly efficient magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer nanocomposite material was prepared using multi-walled carbon nanotubes as carriers. The characterization of the obtained nanocomposite material was conducted using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, a vibrating sample magnetometer, a thermogravimetric analyzer, a scanning electron microscope, and a transmission electron microscope. The adsorption properties of the nanocomposite material were evaluated through adsorption experiments, including static adsorption, dynamic adsorption, and selective recognition studies. The prepared nanocomposite material, serving as a selective adsorbent, was applied in magnetic solid-phase extraction. Subsequently, the derivatized samples were analyzed for glucose in fish serum using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry. Under optimal conditions, the detection limit was 0.30 ng/mL, the quantitation limit was 0.99 ng/mL, satisfactory spiked recovery rates were obtained, and the relative standard deviation was less than 1.1%. Using 2-deoxy-D-ribose as the template molecule and a structural analog of glucose allowed us to eliminate the potential template leakage in qualitative and quantitative analyses, effectively avoiding the issues of false positives and potential quantitative errors, compared to traditional methods. A method for detecting glucose levels in fish serum based on molecularly imprinted polymer technology has been successfully developed to determine the stress and health levels of fish.

The impact of a tunnel construction on the groundwater system depends on various parameters and cannot be easily predicted. Along these lines, a deep understanding of the hydrological relationship between tunnels and surface water is considered of vital importance for ensuring safety during railway construction. Upon completion, the North Taihang Tunnel will be one of four extra-long railway tunnels running through the natural ecotope and level-3 protection areas of the Tianshengqiao National Geological Park in Fuping County, Hebei Province. It will be 1 km away from the Tianshengqiao Nine Falls, which is known as a breathtaking landscape feature in Northern China. Local government, societies, and railway design units have raised concerns about whether the construction and operation of the North Taihang Tunnel will affect the Tianshengqiao Nine Falls. To effectively address this issue, in this work, hydrogeological mapping and hydraulic potential-energy calculations were performed in conjunction with hydrochemical and geological structure analyses. The groundwater system units in the study area were divided and the water source of the nine-level waterfall was determined retrospectively. In addition, the recharge of groundwater to the nine-level waterfall was calculated, the hydrogeological properties of the linear structure were analyzed, and the dominant channels of underwater discharge in surface water were compared and studied. The extracted results indicated that: (1) The Tianshengqiao Nine Falls represent a seasonal fall landscape, which is mainly supplied by surface water formed by precipitation and a low proportion of groundwater supply. (2) The water bodies of the North Taihang Tunnel project and Tianshengqiao Nine Falls belong to two independent groundwater systems. (3) No linear structure that connects these two groundwater systems has yet been discovered. It is widely accepted that a minor possibility of hydraulic connection might be present between the North Taihang Tunnel and Tianshengqiao Nine Falls. This work analyzed the water quantity of Nine Falls, determined the hydraulic relationship between the tunnel project and the waterhead of the Nine Falls, and addressed all stakeholder concerns. The conclusions could provide technological support for the scheduled construction projects.

The Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis) is one of the most commercially important crustacean species in China. The aim of this study was to characterize the toxic effects of butachlor (an herbicide of the acetanilide class) on juvenile E. sinensis crabs. The lethal effects and the acute toxicity of butachlor on juvenile E. sinensis specimens were assessed through a semi-static in vitro experiment. We determined the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) as well as the levels of glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) in the gills and the hepatopancreas of the juvenile crabs, at different time points over a 14-day short-term exposure to butachlor. Moreover, we measured the residual levels of butachlor in three different tissues (gills, hepatopancreas, and muscles) of the juvenile crabs over a longer period. Our findings revealed that butachlor is highly toxic for juvenile E. sinensis crabs. In fact, the median lethal concentration (LC50) values of butachlor at 24, 48, 72, and 96 h were found to be 4.22, 1.84, 0.34, and 0.14 mg/L, respectively, while the safe concentration was 0.014 mg/L. The antioxidant defense ability of the juvenile E. sinensis crabs against butachlor was induced after exposure to the herbicide at a concentration of 0.01 mg/L. After 14 days of exposure to butachlor at 0.04 and 0.16 mg/L, both SOD and CAT were found to be significantly inhibited (p < 0.05), the GSH levels were found to be significantly decreased (p < 0.05) and the MDA levels were identified as significantly increased (p < 0.05). Moreover, after 14 days of exposure to butachlor at 0.16 mg/L, the activities of SOD and CAT as well as the content of GSH in the hepatopancreas were found to be significantly decreased (p < 0.05). Our results revealed that a high concentration of butachlor was capable of inducing oxidative stress and damage in juvenile E. sinensis crabs. The maximal residual value of butachlor was obtained in the gills, with a content of 4.56 μg/kg. Butachlor was not detected after 24 days in the aforementioned three tissues of the juvenile crabs, thereby indicating that it was effectively metabolized.

Land use and land cover change (LUCC) prediction of cities in Western China requires higher accuracy in quantitative demand and spatial layout because of complex challenges in balancing relationships between urban constructions and ecological developments. Considering city-level areas and various types of land use and land cover, existing LUCC models without constraint or with only loose demand constraints were impractical in providing evidence of high accuracy and high-resolution predictions in areas facing fierce land competition. In this study, we proposed a two-layer SD-ANN-CA model to simulate and explore the LUCC trend and layout predictions for 2018, 2028, and 2038 in Ya’an City, Western China. The two-layer structure with an upper layer of the SD model and a lower layer of the ANN-CA model, as well as the advantages of all three methods of system dynamics (SD), artificial neural network (ANN), and cellular automata (CA), have allowed us to consider the macro-level demand constraints, meso-level driving factors constraints, and the micro-level spatial constraints into a unified model framework. The simulation results of the year 2018 have shown significant improvement in the accuracy of the ANN-CA model constructed in our earlier work, especially in types of forest land (error-accuracy: 0.08%), grassland (error-accuracy: 0.23%), and construction land (error-accuracy: 0.18%). The layout predictions of all six types of land use in 2028 and 2038 are then carried out to provide visual evidence support, which may improve the efficiency of planning and policy-making processes. Our work may also provide insights into new ways to combine quantitative methods into spatial methods in constructing city-level or even regional-level LUCC models with high resolution.

The degradation of farmland in China underscores the need for developing and utilizing saline-alkali soil. Soil health relies on microbial activity, which aids in the restoration of the land’s ecosystem, and hence it is important to understand microbial diversity. In the present study, two Gram-stain-positive strains HR 1-10T and J-A-003T were isolated from saline-alkali soil. Preliminary analysis suggested that these strains could be a novel species. Therefore, the taxonomic positions of these strains were evaluated using polyphasic analysis. Phylogenetic and 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that these strains should be assigned to the genus Halalkalibacter. Cell wall contained meso-2,6-diaminopimelic acid. The polar lipids present in both strains were diphosphatidyl-glycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, and an unidentified phospholipid. The major fatty acids (>10%) were anteiso-C15:0, C16:0 and iso-C15:0. Average nucleotide identity and digital DNA#x2013;DNA hybridization values were below the threshold values (95% and 70%, respectively) for species delineation. Based on the above results, the strains represent two novel species of the genus Halalkalibacter, for which the names Halalkalibacter flavus sp. nov., and Halalkalibacter lacteus sp. nov., are proposed. The type strains are HR 1-10T (=GDMCC 1.2946T = MCCC 1K08312T = JCM 36285T), and J-A-003T (=GDMCC 1.2949T = MCCC 1K08417T = JCM 36286T).

The sea ice albedo can amplify global climate change and affect the surface energy in the Arctic. In this paper, the data from Visible and Infra-Red Radiometer (VIRR) onboard Fengyun-3C satellite are applied to derive the Arctic sea ice albedo. Two radiative transfer models, namely, 6S and FluxNet, are used to simulate the reflectance and albedo in the shortwave band. Clear sky sea ice albedo in the Arctic region (60°~90°N) from 2016 to 2019 is derived through the physical process, including data preprocessing, narrowband to broadband conversion, anisotropy correction, and atmospheric correction. The results are compared with aircraft measurements and AVHRR Polar Pathfinder-Extended (APP-x) albedo product and OLCI MPF product. The bias and standard deviation of the difference between VIRR albedo and aircraft measurements are −0.040 and 0.071, respectively. Compared with APP-x product and OLCI MPF product, a good consistency of albedo is shown. And analyzed together with melt pond fraction, an obvious negative relationship can be seen. After processing the 4-year data, an obvious annual trend can be observed. Due to the influence of snow on the ice surface, the average surface albedo of the Arctic in March and April can reach more than 0.8. Starting in May, with the ice and snow melting and melt ponds forming, the albedo drops rapidly to 0.5–0.6. Into August, the melt ponds begin to freeze and the surface albedo increases.
