As the fleet of high-speed rail vehicles expands, ensuring train safety is of the utmost importance, emphasizing the critical need to enhance the precision of axel temperature warning systems. Yet, the limited availability of data on the unique features of high thermal axis temperature conditions in railway systems hinders the optimal performance of intelligent algorithms in alarm detection models. To address these challenges, this study introduces a novel dynamic principal component analysis preprocessing technique for tolerance temperature data to effectively manage missing data and outliers. Furthermore, a customized generative adversarial network is devised to generate distinct data related to high thermal axis temperature, focusing on optimizing the network’s objective functions and distinctions to bolster the efficiency and diversity of the generated data. Finally, an integrated model with an optimized transformer module is established to accurately classify alarm levels, provide a comprehensive solution to pressing train safety issues, and, in a timely manner, notify drivers and maintenance departments (DEPOs) of high-temperature warnings.

Aiming at the problem that traditional wireless sensor networks produce errors in the positioning and tracking of motorised targets due to noise interference, this paper proposes a motorised target tracking method with a convolutional bi-directional long and short-term memory neural network and extended Kalman filtering, which is trained by using the simulated RSSI value and the actual target value of motorised targets collected from the convolutional bi-directional neural network to the sensor anchor node, so as to obtain a more accurate initial value of the manoeuvre target, and at the same time, the extended Kalman filtering method is used to accurately locate and track the real-time target, so as to obtain the accurate positioning and tracking information of the real-time target. Through experimental simulation, it can be seen that the algorithm proposed in this paper has good tracking effect in both linear manoeuvre target tracking scenarios and non-linear manoeuvre target tracking scenarios.

Accelerometers are commonly used to measure vibrations for condition monitoring in mechanical and civil structures; however, their high cost and point-based measurement approach present practical limitations. With rapid advancements in computer vision and deep learning, research into tracking the motion of individual pixels with vision cameras has increased. The recently developed CoTracker, a transformer-based model, has demonstrated excellence in motion tracking, yet its performance in measuring structural vibrations has not been fully explored. This paper investigates the efficacy of the CoTracker model in extracting full-field structural vibrations using cameras. It is initially applied to capture the dense point movements in video sequences of a cantilever beam recorded using a high-speed camera. Subsequently, modal analysis using delay-embedding dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) is conducted to extract modal parameters including natural frequencies, damping ratios, and mode shapes. The results, benchmarked against those from a reference accelerometer and the Finite Element Method (FEM) result, demonstrate CoTracker’s high potential for general applicability in structural vibration measurements.

Effects of different ionic strengths (0.2, 0.4, and 0.6 mol/L) and different hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) treatment times (0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 min) on the conformation and gel properties of tilapia myofibrillar proteins (TMP) were investigated. The results showed that the solubility of TMP was significantly enhanced (p < 0.05) with the increase in NaCl concentration, and the gel characteristics were significantly improved. After HC treatment of TMP, the average particle size was significantly reduced (p < 0.05) and solubility was significantly enhanced (p < 0.05) with the increase in treatment time, the internal hydrophobic groups and reactive sulfhydryl groups were exposed. The intrinsic fluorescence spectra showed the unfolding of the spatial tertiary structure of proteins, and the circular dichroism spectroscopy showed the significant reduction in the content of α-helix in the secondary structure of the proteins (p < 0.05). In addition, the WHC and gel strength of the TMP heat-induced gels were enhanced, which improved the microstructure of the gels, and scanning electron microscopy showed that the gel network of the TMP gels became denser and more homogeneous. Dynamic rheology results showed that HC treatment resulted in a significant increase in the final G’ and G” values of TMP. In conclusion, HC treatment was able to improve the physicochemical structure and gel properties of TMP at different ionic strengths. This study presents a novel processing technique for the quality maintenance aspect of salt-reduced surimi gel products.

Copy number variation (CNV) has been increasingly recognized as a type of genomic/genetic variation that plays a critical role in driving human diseases and genomic diversity. CNV detection and analysis from cancer genomes could provide crucial information for cancer diagnosis and treatment. There still remain considerable challenges in the control-free calling of CNVs accurately in cancer analysis, although advances in next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology have been inspiring the development of various computational methods. Herein, we propose a new read-depth (RD)-based approach, called CNVbd, to explore CNVs from single tumor samples of NGS data. CNVbd assembles three statistics drawn from the density peak clustering algorithm and isolation forest algorithm based on the denoised RD profile and establishes a back propagation neural network model to predict CNV bins. In addition, we designed a revision process and a boundary search algorithm to correct the false-negative predictions and refine the CNV boundaries. The performance of the proposed method is assessed on both simulation data and real sequencing datasets. The analysis shows that CNVbd is a very competitive method and can become a robust and reliable tool for analyzing CNVs in the tumor genome.

Sky radiative cooling is a kind of passive cooling technology that uses the “atmospheric window” to emit the object’s own heat to the low temperature of outer space; this technology has low energy consumption, no pollution, and other useful characteristics, so in recent years it has attracted widespread attention. The cooling effect of the sky radiative cooler is mainly affected by the constantly changing outdoor ambient temperature. In addition, the structure of the radiative cooler itself also means that its radiative cooling power undergoes obvious changes. Here, we utilized COMSOL simulation software to establish a numerical heat transfer model for radiative cooling, aimed at investigating the influencing factors on the sky radiative cooler and methods to enhance the structure of the radiative cooling. This study discusses outdoor ambient wind speed, the inlet flow rate of the cooler, installation angle of the cooler, and different cooler structures. Based on simulation results, it is observed that, for varying wind speeds, when the ambient radiation temperature is higher than the surface temperature of the cooler, a larger ambient wind speed leads to a poorer refrigeration effect. The maximum temperature difference in surface temperature at wind speeds of 0 m/s and 4 m/s is 0.59 °C. When the ambient temperature is lower than the surface temperature of the cooler, a smaller wind speed results in a greater net refrigeration power. The maximum temperature difference in this scenario is 0.32 °C. The net refrigeration power of the radiative cooler increases with an increase in water flow rate. As the water flow rate increases from 0 L/min to 5 L/min, the net refrigeration power increases from 25 W/m2 to 200 W/m2 and gradually stabilizes. Considering the radiative impact of the cooler on the surrounding environment, as the installation angle increases from 0° to 90°, the surface temperature of the cooler first increases and then decreases, reaching its highest temperature of 29.26 °C at 45°. The surface temperature of the cooler varies with the thickness of the air sandwich, increasing from 1 cm to 12 cm, and then decreasing. The lowest temperature of 23.4 °C is achieved at a thickness of 8 cm. The increase in the fin structure on the surface of the radiative cooler leads to a decrease in its refrigeration performance, and the difference between the inlet and outlet temperatures of the radiative cooler with a flat plate structure is always greater than that of the finned plate, and the difference in the average radiance is 23.52 W/m2. Finally, the energy-saving effect of the sky radiative cooling composite system is analyzed. Taking a typical small office building as an example, an energy consumption analysis model is set up, and the energy consumption of the composite system is simulated in four cities with different climates, using EnergyPlus software (version 8.6); the system’s power consumption is the largest in hot and humid climates. Compared with the traditional vapor-compression refrigeration system, the composite system reduces air conditioning power consumption by 25.7%, 32.5%, 37.1%, and 44.8% in Guangzhou, Shanghai, Jinan, and Shenyang, respectively. The main innovations of this paper include analyzing and studying the influence of the tilt angle change of the radiative plate on the refrigeration performance of the cooler and the relationship between the surrounding buildings, adding air sandwiches and ribs to the radiative cooler to analyze the influence of convective heat transfer on the refrigeration effect, which plays a guiding role in the design and research of the sky radiative cooler.

(1) Background: despite the fact that nowadays the genus Vulpes Frisch, 1775, is the most diverse among extant Canidae, its fossil record is utterly scarce, especially in the Asian Pliocene. The sparse nature of this record further complicates the reconstruction of the evolutionary scenario to fit these taxa with extant species. The situation seems to change slightly in the Early Pleistocene when two species are recorded: Vulpes alopecoides (Del Campana, 1913) in Europe and Vulpes chikushanensis, Young, 1930, in Asian localities. Unlike the former, which has an extensive record, the remains of the Chinese V. chikushanensis are sporadic and the validity of the taxon has also been questioned. (2) Methods: the study of the specimens from the Early Pleistocene site of Bajiazui (1.8–1.2 Ma, Qingyang, Gansu) in comparison to an extensive sample of Vulpes spp. The Pliocene–Early Pleistocene is relevant for the delimitation of fossil foxes variability; (3) Results: morphologically and morphometrically, the specimens of Bajiazui fit with the specimens of V. chikushanensis from other Chinese localities of the Early Pleistocene, e.g., Longdan (Gansu) and Huiyu (Fangshang), highlighting some difference with the latest Early Pleistocene forms of Jigushan fox; (4) Conclusions: the revision of the Asian fossil record of Vulpes is crucial in our attempt to understand and reconstruct the evolution of carnivoran guild during the late Early Pleistocene (1.8–0.8 Ma). The fox remains from Bajiazui, although fragmentary, add a valuable piece to our knowledge of V. chikushanensis, a species possibly strongly related to the extant Vulpes corsac (Linnaeus, 1768).

There have been some studies conducted about the single factor viscoelasticity of polymer solution or wettability effect on the micro-flow mechanism of polymer flooding. In this paper, the flow mechanism of polymer solution in dual heterogeneous reservoir considering the wettability and gravity was studied. The influences of wettability and rock particle shape on flow characteristics were studied based on the characteristics of saturation and pressure distribution. Compared with the simulation results of polymer flooding in three different rock particle shapes porous media, the oil displacement efficiency of the circular particle model is the highest at 91.57%, which is 3.34% and 11.48% higher than that in the hexagonal and diamond models, respectively. The influence of wettability was studied by the circular particle model. The oil displacement efficiency under water-wet conditions was higher than that under oil-wet conditions. The displacement process considering gravity was affected by the crossflow caused by gravity and viscous force, and the micro-oil displacement efficiency was 9.87% lower than that of non-gravity. Considering the wettability, vertical crossflow will be formed. The oil displacement efficiency under water-wet conditions was 3.9% higher than in oil-wet conditions. The research results can not only expand and enrich the micro-flow mechanism of viscoelastic polymer solution, but also provide reference and guidance for polymer flooding scheme design.

Male infertility is a global issue that seriously affects reproductive health. This study aimed to understand the underlying causes of idiopathic non-obstructive azoospermia (iNOA), which is a type of male infertility with unknown origins that accounts for 10–15% of cases. By using single-cell analysis techniques, we aimed to uncover the mechanisms of iNOA and gain insight into the cellular and molecular changes in the testicular environment. In this study, we performed bioinformatics analysis using scRNA-seq and microarray data obtained from the GEO database. The analysis included techniques such as pseudotime analysis, cell–cell communication, and hdWGCNA. Our study showed a significant difference between the iNOA and the normal groups, indicating a disorder in the spermatogenic microenvironment in iNOA. We observed a reduction in the proportion of Sertoli cells and blocked germ cell differentiation. Additionally, we found evidence of testicular inflammation related to macrophages and identified ODF2 and CABYR as potential biomarkers for iNOA.

It is essential to estimate the indoor pesticides/insecticides exposure risk since reports show that 80% of human exposure to pesticides occurs indoors. As one of the three major contamination sources, surface collected pesticides contributed significantly to this risk. Here, a highly sensitive liquid freestanding membrane (FSM) SERS method based on iodide modified silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) was developed for quantitative detection of insecticide deltamethrin (DM) residues in solution phase samples and on surfaces with good accuracy and high sensitivity. The DM SERS spectrum from 500 to 2500 cm−1 resembled the normal Raman counterpart of solid DM. Similar bands at 563, 1000, 1165, 1207, 1735, and 2253 cm−1 were observed as in the literature. For the quantitative analysis, the strongest peak at 1000 cm−1 that was assigned to the stretching mode of the benzene ring and the deformation mode of C-C was selected. The peak intensity at 1000 cm−1 and the concentration of DM showed excellent linearity from 39 to 5000 ppb with a regression equation I = 649.428 + 1.327 C (correlation coefficient R2 = 0.991). The limit of detection (LOD) of the DM was found to be as low as 11 ppb. Statistical comparison between the proposed and the HPLC methods for the analysis of insecticide deltamethrin (DM) residues in solution phase samples showed no significant difference. DM residue analysis on the surface was mimicked by dropping DM pesticide on the glass surface. It is found that DM exhibited high residue levels up to one week after exposure. This proposed SERS method could find application in the household pesticide residues analysis.

The melting temperature and viscosity of magnesium reduction slag were calculated by using Factsage thermodynamic software. The composition range of the magnesium-slag-based dephosphorizing agent was analyzed by drawing a multiphase diagram of the slag system. The Box–Behnken high-temperature dephosphorization experiment was designed to study the effect of different composition of magnesium-slag-based dephosphorizers on the dephosphorization rate of the steelmaking process. The results show that magnesium slag can be used as a slag-forming agent for smelting low-silicon hot metal to promote slagging, and the effect of each factor on the phosphorus removal rate is ranked, and the results are ω(Fe2O3) > basicity > ω(Al2O3): ω(Al2O3) has no significant effect on the rate of phosphorus removal. When the basicity was 2.8, ω(Fe2O3) was 25.94%, ω(Al2O3) was 6.73%, and ω(MgO) was 6%, the dephosphorization rate reached a maximum of 96.7%, and the error was experimentally verified to be 2.6% from the predicted value, indicating that the model can be optimized to determine the best magnesium-slag-based dephosphorization agent and has a good prediction of dephosphorization effect.

Microalgae are a kind of photoautotrophic microorganism, which are small, fast in their growth rate, and widely distributed in seawater and freshwater. They have strong adaptability to diverse environmental conditions and contain various nutrients. Many scholars have suggested that microalgae can be considered as a new food source, which should be developed extensively. More importantly, in addition to containing nutrients, microalgae are able to produce a great number of active compounds such as long-chain unsaturated fatty acids, pigments, alkaloids, astaxanthin, fucoidan, etc. Many of these compounds have been proven to possess very important physiological functions such as anti-oxidation, anti-inflammation, anti-tumor functions, regulation of the metabolism, etc. This article aimed to review the physiological functions and benefits of the main microalgae-derived bioactive molecules with their physiological effects.

Cropland abandonment is driven by various mechanisms and is best viewed from multiple perspectives to suggest targeted policy changes which may change the status quo of abandonment. Here, we systematically analyze the characteristics of abandonment and its driving mechanisms by different farming households (pure, part-time, and non-farm) in three topographic regions of the Poyang Lake region using a binary logistic regression model. Results show that: (1) The overall abandonment probability in the Poyang Lake region is largest for non-farm households, followed by part-time households and pure households. In the mountainous region, abandonment is largest for non-farm households, followed by pure households and part-time households. Both the hilly and plain regions show the largest abandonment probability for pure households, followed by part-time households, and non-farm households. (2) The low agricultural economic benefits and the uneconomical investments of time in plots are the main abandonment determinants for pure households. Economic efficiency, both the time invested in plots and economic efficiency, are key abandonment determinants for pure households in the mountainous and plain regions, respectively. (3) Labor shortage and plots which are time-consuming and unfavorable to cultivation are the main abandonment determinants for part-time households, with different factors in different topographic regions. (4) For non-farm households, many factors can influence the occurrence of abandonment. Non-farm households in the mountainous and hilly regions are more influenced by non-farm work and the number of farming workers, respectively; in addition, the inconvenience of using agricultural machinery has a significant influence.

The reservoir heterogeneity of Q oilfield is more severe after long-term water injection development, and water flooding is ineffective. In this study, the combined technologies of profile control, profile control and flooding, and oil displacement were proposed to improve the water flooding development effect. Then, the influence of the well pattern type on the remaining oil distribution, after development, was investigated. Cr3+ polymer gel, which has an optimal gel-forming effect, was used as the profile control agent. Moreover, the entire molecular structure had a “network” structure. A polymer microsphere was used as a profile control and flooding agent, which showed a good hydration expansion capacity. The initial particle size distribution had a range of 7.2–11.1 μm, and the expansion multiple was 4.35–5.64 after 7 days. The surfactant was an oil displacement agent, and the interfacial tension was approximately 5.08–5.11 × 10−1 mN/m. After the “profile control + profile control and flooding + oil displacement” technologies, the horizontal well pattern had a large seepage area. The effect of expanding the sweep volume was significant, and the remaining oil saturation in each stage was lower than those of the vertical and horizontal–vertical combined well patterns. Compared with the first water flooding stage, the remaining oil saturation values of the three permeable layers changed by 11.9%, 17.3%, and 19.8% during the subsequent water flooding stage.

B7-H3 plays an important role in tumor apoptosis, proliferation, adhesion, angiogenesis, invasion, migration, and evasion of immune surveillance. It is overexpressed in various human solid tumor tissues. In patients, B7-H3 overexpression correlates with advanced stages, poor clinical outcomes, and resistance to therapy. The roles of B7-H3 in tumor progression make it a potential candidate for targeted therapy. Here, we generated a mouse anti-human B7-H3 antibody and demonstrated its binding activity via Tongji University Suzhou Instituteprotein-based and cell-based assays. We then developed a novel format anti-B7-H3 × anti-CD3 bispecific antibody based on the antibody-binding fragment of the anti-B7-H3 antibody and single-chain variable fragment structure of anti-CD3 antibody (OKT3) and demonstrated that this bispecific antibody mediated potent cytotoxic activities against various B7-H3-positive tumor cell lines in vitro by improving T cell activation and proliferation. This bispecific antibody also demonstrated potent antitumor activity in humanized mice xenograft models. These results revealed that the novel anti-B7-H3 × anti-CD3 bispecific antibody has the potential to be employed in treatment of B7-H3-positive solid tumors.

Accurately understanding the relationship between grain production and economic development is of great practical significance for ensuring national food security and coordinating inter-regional economic development. Using 2012 counties as research units, we analyzed the spatial coordination between grain production and economic development in China using the coupling of grain and economy (CGE) index, as well as the curve of gravity center and thematic map series methods based on statistical data from counties between 2000–2017. The results showed that: (1) Grain production was weakly coordinated with the economic development in China; but this coordination was enhanced. (2) China’s conversion between various types of grain production and economic development mainly occurred in the central and western regions, which are characterized by a much higher grain agglomeration level than the economic agglomeration level. (3) The northeastern region was prone to the grain agglomeration, the central and western regions were characterized by a grain-economy balance and the eastern region was dominated by economic agglomeration. (4) The increase of China’s CGE gradually increased from the southwest to northeast. Therefore, we proposed that the government should pay more attention to grain circulation in the eastern region and main grain-producing areas in central region should develop an accurate benefit compensation system, support leading grain processing enterprises and implement cultivated land protection policies in order to ensure national food security.

Rice, broken rice (BR), and full-fat rice bran (FFRB) from six different origins were analyzed for their chemical composition, nitrogen-corrected apparent metabolized energy (AMEn), and standardized amino acid digestibility (SIAAD) in 14-day-old and 28-day-old Arbor Acres broilers. Results showed broilers fed with rice and BR had a similar AMEn regardless of the rice and BR having different CP, EE, NDF, ADF, and ash content. FFRB containing significantly different CP, EE, NDF, ADFm and starch presented variable AMEn (p < 0.05), suggesting that starch content in rice and its byproducts contributed most to the AMEn of broilers. The regression equation of AMEn = 14.312 − (0.198 × NDF) and AMEn = 6.491 + (0.103 × Starch) were feasible to integrally predict AMEn of broilers fed to rice and its byproducts. Moreover, 28-day-old broilers had higher SIAAD than 14-day-old ones. The SIAAD of rice were higher than BR and FFRB except for Met, Cys, Thr, and Tyr in 14-day-old broilers (p < 0.05), and the SIAAD of His, Asp, and Ser in BR were higher than FFRB (p < 0.05). In 28-day-old broilers, the SIAAD of Leu, Trp, Asp, Gly, and Pro of rice were still higher than BR and FFRB (p < 0.05), but BR and FFRB had no significant differences (p > 0.05). The regression equations to estimate the SIAAD of Thr, Lys, and Met were: Met = 81.46 + (0.578 × CP), Thr = 0.863 + (6.311 × CP), and Trp = 102.883 − (1.77 × CP), indicating that CP content in rice and its byproducts was likely a major factor for prediction of SIAAD.

Due to the simple structure, low inertia and the ability to operate for a long time under high-speed and high-temperature conditions, the induction motor is widely used in high-speed applications. Aiming at the most prominent loss and stress problems in high-speed induction motors, the use of low loss material and the choice of a reliable rotor structure are effective optimized methods. In this paper, the electromagnetic loss, stator temperature distribution and performance parameters of high-speed induction motor are analyzed with stator cores of different materials. In addition, for the different rotor structures, the mechanical stress is compared. Furthermore, the comparison and analysis are used to improve the motor performance and provide a reference for prototype development. A performance test of the prototype is conducted, which proves the validity of the study in this paper.

The allicin diallyldisulfid-S-oxide, a major garlic organosulfur compound (OSC) in crushed garlic (Allium sativum L.), possesses antibacterial effects, and influences gut bacteria. In this study, we made allicin-free garlic (AFG) extract and investigated its effects on gut microbiome. C57BL/6N male mice were randomly divided into 6 groups and fed normal diet (ND) and high-fat diet (HFD) supplemented with or without AFG in concentrations of 1% and 5% for 11 weeks. The genomic DNAs of feces were used to identify the gut microbiome by sequencing 16S rRNA genes. The results revealed that the ratio of p-Firmicutes to p-Bacteroidetes increased by aging and HFD was reduced by AFG. In particular, the f-Lachnospiraceae, g-Akkermansia, and g-Lactobacillus decreased by aging and HFD was enhanced by AFG. The g-Dorea increased by aging and HFD decreased by AFG. In addition, the ratio of glutamic-pyruvic transaminase to glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase (GPT/GOT) in serum was significantly increased in the HFD group and decreased by AFG. In summary, our data demonstrated that dietary intervention with AFG is a potential way to balance the gut microbiome disturbed by a high-fat diet.

The main challenges of sensing in harsh industrial and biological environments are the limited energy of sensor nodes and the difficulty of charging sensor nodes. Simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) is a non-invasive option to replenish energy. SWIPT harvests energy and decodes information from the same RF signal, which is influencing the design of a wireless sensor network. In multi-hop multi-flow wireless sensor networks, interference generally exists, and the interference has a different influence on SWIPT. Route, interference and SWIPT are dependent. However, existing works consider SWIPT link resource allocation with a given route or only select path for one flow without interference. Therefore, this paper firstly analyzes the influence of interference on SWIPT, and select the SWIPT routing with interference. We design an interference-based information and energy allocation model to maximize the link capacity with SWIPT. Then, we design an interference-aware route metric, formulate SWIPT routing problem, and design an interference-aware SWIPT routing algorithm. The simulation results show that as the number of flows increases, there is more likely to obtain performance gains from interference and SWIPT.

Ampelopsis grossedentata, also called vine tea, has been used as a traditional beverage in China for centuries. Vine tea contains rich polyphenols and shows benefit to human health, but the chemical and antioxidant properties of vine tea polyphenols from different locations remain unclear. This study aims to investigate the chemical and antioxidant properties of vine tea from three major production areas in China including Guizhou, Hunan, and Guangxi Provinces. The highest amount of polyphenol from vine tea was extracted by 70% ethanol at 70 °C for 40 min with ultrasonic treatment. The major compound in vine tea polyphenols (VTP) was determined as dihydromyricetin (DMY) by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and the content was estimated as 21.42%, 20.17%, and 16.47% of dry weight basis from Hunan, Guizhou, and Guangxi products, respectively. The antioxidant activities were investigated in vitro and in culture hepatic cells. VTP and DMY showed strong 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl free radical (DPPH) scavenging ability and high oxygen radical absorption capacity (ORAC) value in vitro. VTP and DMY also increased the level of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH):quinone oxidoreductase (NQO1) in HepG2 cells. Moreover, VTP and DMY enhanced the level of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and reduced the level of Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1). Taken together, our data demonstrated that the extraction of vine tea by 70% ethanol with ultrasonic treatment is a novel method to efficiently obtain components possessing stronger antioxidant activity. Furthermore, the results from the culture cells suggest that the bioactive component of vine tea might exert the antioxidant activity by activating the cellular Nrf2/Keap1 pathway.

Garlic (Allium sativum L.) contains prebiotic components, fructans, antibacterial compounds, and organosulfur compounds. The complex ingredients of garlic seem to impart a paradoxical result on the gut microbiome. In this study, we used a mouse model to clarify the effects of whole garlic on the gut microbiome. C57BL/6N male mice were fed with or without whole garlic in normal diet (ND) or in high-fat diet (HFD) for 12 weeks. Supplementation with whole garlic attenuated HFD-enhanced ratio of serum GPT/GOT (glutamic-pyruvic transaminase/glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase), levels of T-Cho (total cholesterol) and LDLs (low-density lipoproteins), and index of homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), but had no significant effect in the levels of serum HDL-c (high density lipoprotein cholesterol), TG (total triacylglycerol), and glucose. Moreover, garlic supplementation meliorated the HFD-reduced ratio of villus height/crypt depth, cecum weight, and the concentration of cecal organic acids. Finally, gut microbiota characterization by high throughput 16S rRNA gene sequencing revealed that whole garlic supplementation increased the α-diversity of the gut microbiome, especially increasing the relative abundance of f_Lachnospiraceae and reducing the relative abundance of g_Prevotella. Taken together, our data demonstrated that whole garlic supplementation could meliorate the HFD-induced dyslipidemia and disturbance of gut microbiome.

Small brown planthopper (SBPH) and rice stripe virus (RSV) disease transmitted by SBPH cause serious damage to rice (Oryza sativa L.) in China. In the present study, we screened 312 rice accessions for resistance to SBPH. The indica variety, N22, is highly resistant to SBPH. One hundred and eighty two recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from a cross of N22 and the highly susceptible variety, USSR5, were used for quantitative trait locus (QTL) analysis of resistances to SBPH and RSV. In a modified seedbox screening test, three QTLs for SBPH resistance, qSBPH2, qSBPH3 and qSBPH7.1, were mapped on chromosomes 2, 3 and 7, a total explaining 35.1% of the phenotypic variance. qSBPH7.2 and qSBPH11.2, conferring antibiosis against SBPH, were detected on chromosomes 7 and 11 and accounted for 20.7% of the total phenotypic variance. In addition, qSBPH5 and qSBPH7.3, expressing antixenosis to SBPH, were detected on chromosomes 5 and 7, explaining 23.9% of the phenotypic variance. qSBPH7.1, qSBPH7.2 and qSBPH7.3, located in the same region between RM234 and RM429 on chromosome 7, using three different phenotyping methods indicate that the locus or region plays a major role in conferring resistance to SBPH in N22. Moreover, three QTLs, qSTV4, qSTV11.1 and qSTV11.2, for RSV resistance were detected on chromosomes 4 and 11. qSTV11.1 and qSTV11.2 are located in the same region between RM287 and RM209 on chromosome 11. Molecular markers spanning these QTLs should be useful in the development of varieties with resistance to SBPH and RSV.

There are many tasks that require clear and easily recognizable images in the field of underwater robotics and marine science, such as underwater target detection and identification of robot navigation and obstacle avoidance. However, water turbidity makes the underwater image quality too low to recognize. This paper proposes the use of the dark channel prior model for underwater environment recognition, in which underwater reflection models are used to obtain enhanced images. The proposed approach achieves very good performance and multi-scene robustness by combining the dark channel prior model with the underwater diffuse model. The experimental results are given to show the effectiveness of the dark channel prior model in underwater scenarios.

With the rapid development of renewable energy generation, single-phase grid-connected inverters have been widely applied in modern power systems. Since the power output of the renewable sources is continuously changing, independent active/reactive power control and a rapid current tracking performance is supposed to be achieved in a single-phase grid-connected inverter. However, the poor orthogonal-axis-constructing strategy and the ineffective decoupling in some widely-used controllers have severely weakened the dynamic performance of the single-phase inverter. To deal with the challenges above, this study proposes a comprehensive control strategy for current control in a single-phase grid-connected inverter. In the proposed control strategy, a virtual closed-loop is constructed to improve the dynamic performance and realize independent power control under a synchronous frame. Then, complex vector theory is used to model the virtual closed-loop based single-phase inverter, and a novel digital controller is designed based on zero-pole cancellation and minimum beat control to completely decouple the active/reactive components and achieve a supreme current tracking performance. Experimental results are shown to validate the feasibility of the proposed current controller.

We have synthesized a novel chiral NADH model compound, N-methyl-(R)-3-(tert-butyl)-sulphinyl-1,4-dihydropyridine with high enantioselectivity and used it in the reduction of methyl benzoylformate, producing (S)-methyl mandelate in 95% ee. The absolute structure of its precursor, 3-(tert-butyl)sulfinyl pyridine, was determined by X-ray analysis.

Few microbial studies in aquaponics, a growing trend in food production, have been conducted to determine food safety status. The aim of this study was to determine the food safety status and the effectiveness of ultraviolet treatment (15 W, luminous flux of 900 lm) as a food safety intervention in reducing the microbial loads of the water system in a model aquaponic unit growing lettuce, basil, and barramundi (Australian Sea Bass). Sweet basil, bibb lettuce, water samples, and fish swabs were collected throughout the 118-day production period, and microbial analysis was conducted in triplicate for the presence of E. coli O157:H7, Salmonella spp., and the prevalence of aerobic plate counts (APC), coliforms, and fecal coliforms in these systems. Absence of foodborne pathogens was confirmed using ELISA technology and enumeration through petrifilms (coliform/E. coli). A significant increase was observed in aerobic plate counts over the trial period (1 to 3 log10 CFU·mL−1) in the presence and absence of UV (p > 0.05). Ultraviolet treatment did not significantly reduce the APC or coliform counts when compared to the control system samples. Future work should focus on improving the unit design, the evaluation of bio-solid filtration, and other food safety interventions.

The functional application of metallic glasses in the catalytic field has widely attracted research attention due to its unique atomic structure compared to crystalline materials. It has been reported that metallic glasses can effectively activate H2O2 and persulfate, yet the activation of peroxymonosulfate by metallic glasses is not studied well. In this work, the metallic glass with atomic composition of Fe78Si9B13 was applied for investigating the peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation on degradation of naphthol green B (NGB) dye. The change of surface morphology indicated the important role of oxide films during the dye degradation. The effects and first-order kinetics model of various reaction parameters were evaluated systematically, including PMS concentration, catalyst dosage, irradiation intensity, and dye concentration. The results showed that about 98% of the dye removal rate could be achieved only within 10 min under rational conditions. The reaction kinetics k of 0.1339 min−1 without ribbons was sharply improved to 0.3140 min−1 by adding 0.5 g/L ribbons, indicating the superior activation ability of Fe78Si9B13 metallic glass. The recycling experiment revealed that the Fe78Si9B13 ribbons exhibited the excellent surface stability and catalytic reusability for activating PMS even after reused for 10th run.
