Straw returning has gradually been adopted as an effective approach to address the serious degradation of farmland. However, the carbon/nitrogen (C/N) ratio of rice straw is generally too high for microorganisms to decompose the organic materials and release nutrients, which may minimize the benefits of straw returning to the agricultural production system. This study aimed to investigate the effects of straw returning on rice production and propose optimum nitrogen (N) management for early rice production under a straw returning system. The total N fertilizer that was evaluated was 165 kg N ha-1, urea (46% N), applied in different proportions in three stages of rice cultivation: basal, tillering, and panicle. Using no straw returning with the N fertilizer ratio of basal:tillering:panicle = 5:2:3 treatment (T1) as the control, four different N fertilizer ratios of basal:tillering:panicle, including 5:2:3 (T2), 5:2:2 (T3), 5:4:1 (T4), and 5:5:0 (T5) were set under straw returning. The return of straw decreased the available N in the soil at the tillering stage, and impeded root growth and the crop canopy from establishing, which decreased the effective panicles by 10.1% compared with that of T1, limiting the increases in rice grain yield. Increasing the N fertilizer ratio 10–20% (T3 and T4) at the tillering stage effectively increased the content of soil ammonium and nitrate nitrogen, improved the root growth, and increased the root activities by 16.0–40.5% at the tillering stage. As a result, the effective panicle number increased by 5.1–16.2%. Among these, T4 treatment maximized the benefits of straw returning the most. Additionally, increasing the N fertilizer ratio at the tillering stage increased the shoot uptake across the early rice growing season and synchronized crop N uptake with the accumulation of carbon assimilates, which enhanced the crop growth rate and increased the rice yield by 13.5–25.1%. It is concluded that increasing the N fertilizer ratio by 20% at the tillering stage is a promising strategy to increase the availability of N in the phases of high demand for this nutrient.

Clarifying the spatial and temporal evolution characteristics of the ecological environment quality of World Heritage Karst Sites (WHKSs) and its response to different rocky desertification grades at spatial scales is crucial for the monitoring and protection of WHKSs as well as the implementation of ecological and environmental policies in karst regions. The ecological evaluation model of Remote Sensing Ecological Index (RSEI) was used to evaluate the ecological environment of Libo–Huanjiang World Heritage Karst site and Shibing World Heritage Karst site, and then the spatial autocorrelation and geo-detection model was used to further analyze the ecological environment, and final spatial overlay of RSEI and rocky desertification by year to analyze the linkage relationship between RSEI and rocky desertification. The results showed that (1) in the three-phase ecological environmental quality evaluation of the two heritage sites, the RSEI in 2010, 2016, and 2022 reached 0.60, 0.67, and 0.64 for the Libo–Huanjiang heritage site, and RSEI in 2010, 2016, and 2022 for the Shibing heritage site reached 0.60, 0.74, and 0.70, respectively; (2) the RSEI of both heritage sites show a gradually increasing positive spatial correlation, and has significant spatial aggregation characteristics, with both heritage sites dominated by the high-high and low-low spatial aggregation categories; (3) both heritage sites have the highest degree of explanation of changes in ecological quality by the NDBSI factor, indicating that this factor plays a key role in changes in ecological quality at heritage sites; (4) the response of the RSEI mean value of Libo–Huanjiang in each grade of rocky desertification area is, from high to low, no rocky desertification, non-karst, potential rocky desertification, mild rocky desertification, moderate rocky desertification, intensive rocky desertification, and extreme intensity rocky desertification, and the response of the RSEI mean value of Shibing is, from high to low, non-karst, no rocky desertification, potential rocky desertification, mild rocky desertification, and moderate rocky desertification. The spatial superposition analysis of the RSEI index and rocky desertification index can quantitatively study the changing status of the ecological environment in different rocky desertification areas, and the results of the study can provide theoretical references for the environmental monitoring and the prevention and control of rocky desertification in the karst areas and WHKSs.

The physical properties of Ti6Al4V powder affect the spreadability of the powder and uniformity of the powder bed, which had a great impact on the performance of built parts made by powder bed fusion technology. Micro-computed tomography is a well-established technique used to analyze the non-destructivity of the objects’ interior. Ti6Al4V powders were scanned with micro-CT to show the internal and external information of all the particles. The morphology, particle size distribution, hollow particle ratio, density, inclusion, and specific surface area of the powder samples were quantitatively characterized, and the relationship of flowability with these physical properties was analyzed in this work. The research results of this article showed that micro-CT is an effective way to characterize these items, and can be developed as a standard method of powder physical properties in the future.

Selective laser melting (SLM) has attracted increasing attention all over the world. As an important parameter, hatch spacing, which is the distance between scan lines, however, still needs a more systematic study. In this paper, the relationship between hatch spacing and mechanical properties, including microhardness, wear resistance, and porous density, was studied. The testing results revealed that when hatch spacing decreased, the overlapping rate increased which resulted in an increase in the convection in the molten pool. It led to the formation of pores in the molten pool. However, when hatch spacing was too large, the overlapping zone decreased, while the strength between each welding line was not strong enough. It caused a decrease in the quality of printed parts. Combined with the testing results gained in this work, it can be seen that a 0.06 mm hatch spacing was considered as a relatively optimal condition for part formation under 0.05 μm. Comparison of the morphology of the samples printed under different hatch spacing also confirmed the phenomenon observed here.

Fruit cracking affects both the yield and economic efficiency of citrus; however, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Therefore, this study focused on resistant and susceptible cultivars to identify the mechanisms underlying fruit cracking. The results showed that in ‘Mingrijian’, pectin morphological transformation and hemicellulose and lignin degradation in the pericarp were important contributing factors. During the critical fruit-cracking period (115–150 days after flowering), the water-soluble pectin, protopectin, and lignin contents in the pericarp of ‘Daya’ presented inverse changes relative to those in ‘Mingrijian’, thus enhancing the mechanical properties and resistance of pericarp. From 115 to 150 days after flowering, the soluble sugar content in the pulp of ‘Mingrijian’ increased rapidly by 97.35%, aiding in pulp water absorption and expansion. Moreover, the soluble protein content in the pericarp of ‘Mingrijian’ exhibited a declining trend and was lower than that of ‘Daya’, thus affecting the overall metabolism. The superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in the pericarp of ‘Mingrijian’ gradually decreased from 115 to 180 days after flowering, while the peroxidase (POD) activity remained at a low level, resulting in weaker antioxidant capacity and lower environmental resistance. This study provides valuable insights into the mechanisms of citrus fruit cracking, laying the foundation for preventive and control strategies.

MADS-box genes comprise a large family of transcription factors that play crucial roles in all aspects of plant growth and development. However, no detailed information on the evolutionary relationship and functional characterization of MADS-box genes is currently available for some representative lineages, such as the Camellia plant. In this study, 136 MADS-box genes were detected from a reference genome of the tea plant (Camellia sinensis) by employing a 569 bp HMM (Hidden Markov Model) developed using nucleotide sequencing including 73 type I and 63 type II genes. An additional twenty-seven genes were identified, with five MIKC-type genes. Truncated and/or inaccurate gene models were manually verified and curated to improve their functional characterization. Subsequently, phylogenetic relationships, chromosome locations, conserved motifs, gene structures, and gene expression profiles were systematically investigated. Tea plant MIKC genes were divided into all 14 major eudicot subfamilies, and no gene was found in Mβ. The expansion of MADS-box genes in the tea plant was mainly contributed by WGD/fragment and tandem duplications. The expression profiles of tea plant MADS-box genes in different tissues and seasons were analyzed, revealing widespread evolutionary conservation and genetic redundancy. The expression profiles linked to cold stress treatments suggested the wide involvement of MADS-box genes from the tea plant in response to low temperatures. Moreover, a floral ‘ABCE’ model was proposed in the tea plant and proved to be both conserved and ancient. Our analyses offer a detailed overview of MADS-box genes in the tea plant, allowing us to hypothesize the potential functions of unknown genes and providing a foundation for further functional characterizations.

The detection of food safety and quality is very significant throughout the food supply. Stable dual-emission copper-modified fluorescent carbon dots (Cu-CDs) were successfully synthesized by a simple and environment-friendly hydrothermal, which was used for the real-time detection of pesticide residues in agricultural products. By optimizing the reaction conditions, Cu-CDs showed two emission peaks, with the highest fluorescence intensities at 375 and 450 nm. The structure, chemical composition and optical properties of Cu-CDs were investigated by XRD, TEM and IR. The results showed that thiophanate methyl (TM) could induce fluorescence quenching of Cu-CDs with no other ligands by the electron transfer through π-π stacking. The synchronous response of the dual-emission sensor enhanced the specificity of TM, which showed remarkable anti-interference capability. The fluorescence quenching degree of Cu-CDs had a good linear relationship with the TM concentration; the low detection limit for a pear was 0.75 μM, and for an apple, 0.78 μM. The recoveries in the fruit samples were 79.70–91.15% and 81.20–93.55%, respectively, and the relative standard deviations (RSDs) were less than 4.23% for the pear and less than 3.78% for the apple. Thus, our results indicate the feasibility and reliability of our methods in detecting pesticide residues in agricultural products.

Adequate yield and fruit quality are required in commercial plum production. The pollen source has been shown to influence fruit set and fruit characteristics. In this study, ‘Siyueli’, ‘Fenghuangli’ and ‘Yinhongli’ were used as pollinizers of ‘Fengtangli’ plum. Additionally, self-pollination, mixed pollination, and open pollination were performed. We characterized the differences in pollen tube growth, fruit set and fruit quality among pollination combinations. ‘Fengtangli’ flowers pollinated by ‘Fenghuangli’ had more pistils with pollen tubes penetrating the ovary and the highest fruit set rate, while the lowest fruit set rate was obtained from self-pollination. In self-pollinated flowers, 33% of pistils had at least one pollen tube reaching the ovary, implying that ‘Fengtangli’ is partially self-compatible. Pollen sources affected ‘Fengtangli’ fruit size, weight, pulp thickness, soluble solids, and sugar content. Transcriptome analysis of ‘Siyueli’-pollinated and ‘Yinhongli’-pollinated fruits revealed 2762 and 1018 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) involved in the response to different pollen sources. DEGs were enriched in plant hormone signal transduction, starch and sucrose metabolism, and MAPK signaling pathways. Our findings provide a reference for the selection of suitable pollinizers for ‘Fengtangli’ plum and promote future research on the metaxenia effect at the molecular level.

This study aimed to investigate the Pseudostellaria heterophylla polysaccharides (PF40) physicochemical and antidiabetic characteristics. The ultraviolet–visible (UV) spectra, Fourier transform infrared radiation (FT-IR) spectra, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra, zeta potential, surface characteristics, and conformational and thermal stability properties of PF40 were characterized. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), combined with Congo red test, revealed that PF40 powder has mainly existed in amorphous form with triple-helix conformation. The single-molecular structure of PF40 exhibited a multi-branched structure extending from the center to the periphery by scanning probe microscopy (SPM) scanning. The monosaccharide residue of PF40 was an α-pyranoid ring and exhibits good stability below 168 °C. Experimental studies on antidiabetic characteristics found that PF40 could significantly improve STZ-induced intestinal mucosal damage and reduce the apoptosis of villus epithelial cells. PF40 combined with metformin could significantly improve the symptoms of insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) rats, the molecular mechanism might be through inhibiting the expression of RORγ protein and increasing Foxp3 protein in the jejunum of T2DM rats, and then restoring the STZ-induced imbalance of T helper 17(Th17)/ regulatory T cells (Treg) cells, thereby maintaining intestinal immune homeostasis. Results identified in this study provided important information regarding the structure and antidiabetic characteristics of Pseudostellaria heterophylla polysaccharides, which can contribute to the development of Pseudostellaria heterophylla polysaccharides for industrial purposes in the future.

Polysaccharides are abundant in natural resources and perform numerous physiological functions. Polysaccharide structures often lack chromophore groups; thus, current analytical methods cannot distinguish polysaccharide metabolites in the body or polysaccharide prototypes in biological samples. Thus, the measurement of polysaccharides in blood, bodily fluid, and cell-culture medium is difficult. Our early-stage research resulted in the isolation of two homogeneous polysaccharides from Pseudostellaria heterophylla, PHP0.5MSC-F and PHPH-1-2, which have anti-hyperglycemia and insulin resistance improvement effects for type 2 diabetes. In this study, the reducing terminal sugars of PHP0.5MSC-F and PHPH-1-2 were labeled with 2-aminobenzamide (2-AB) to prepare novel fluorescent probes for HPLC-coupled fluorescence detection (HPLC-FLD). Quantitative analysis was performed in reference to T40, and the detection limit for PHP0.5MSC-F was found to be 8.84 μg/mL with a linear range of 29.45–683.28 μg/mL. In reference to T70, the detection limit for PHPH-1-2 was found to be 13.89 μg/mL with a linear range of 46.29–462.76 μg/mL. This method was used to measure the bidirectional transport of polysaccharides across caco-2 cells from apical to basolateral (AP→BL) or from basolateral to apical (BL→AP) directions and to evaluate the polysaccharide bioavailability. The drug absorption capacity was determined based on the apparent permeability coefficient (Papp), and the Papp values for the two polysaccharides were found to be greater than 1 × 10−6 cm/s, which suggests easy absorption. Regarding bidirectional transport, the AP→BL Papp values were greater than the BL→AP values; thus, PHP0.5MSC-F and PHPH-1-2 mainly underwent passive transference. The two membrane permeable polysaccharides were not P-gp efflux transporter substrates. The absorption mechanism of PHP0.5MSC-F complies with passive diffusion under a concentration gradient, whereas PHPH-1-2 mainly utilizes a clathrin-mediated endocytic pathway to enter caco-2 cells. This innovative HPLC-FLD method can help to track polysaccharide internalization in vitro and in vivo to facilitate cellular uptake and biodistribution exploration.

Accurate tree positioning and measurement of structural parameters are the basis of forest inventory and mapping, which are important for forest biomass calculation and community dynamics analyses. Portable backpack lidar that integrates the simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) technique with a global navigation satellite system receiver has greater flexibility for tree inventory than terrestrial laser scanning, but it has never been used to measure and map forest structure in a large area (>101 hectares) with high tree density. In the present study, we used the LiBackpack DG50 backpack lidar system to obtain the point cloud data of a 10 ha plot of subtropical evergreen broadleaved forest, and applied these data to quantify errors and related factors in the diameter at breast height (DBH) measurements and positioning for more than 1900 individual trees. We found an average error of 4.19 cm in the DBH measurements obtained by lidar, compared with manual field measurements. The incompleteness of the tree stem point clouds was the main factor that caused the DBH measurement errors, and the field DBH measurements and density of the point clouds also had significant impacts. The average tree positioning error was 4.64 m, and it was significantly affected by the distance and route length from the measured trees to the data acquisition start position, whereas it was affected little by the habitat complexity and characteristics of tree stems. The tree positioning measurement error led to increases in the mean value and variability of paired-tree distance error as the sample plot scale increased. We corrected the errors based on the estimates of predictive models. After correction, the DBH measurement error decreased by 31.3%, the tree positioning error decreased by 44.3%, and the paired-tree distance error decreased by 56.3%. As the sample plot scale increased, the accumulated paired-tree distance error stabilized gradually.

In view of the high dielectric constant of magnetic nanoparticles, this paper intends to use it as a new type of microwave absorbing medium to accelerate the microwave pyrolysis process of oily sludge. Microwave thermogravimetric reaction and pyrolysis product staged collection devices were established, respectively. The main stage of pyrolysis process of oily sludge was divided based on the thermogravimetric experiments. Mechanism was studied through the characteristics of pyrolysis products and reaction kinetics simulation. Experimental results showed that the addition of magnetic ZnFe2O4 particle did not change the microwave pyrolysis process of oily sludge and the pyrolysis efficiency could be improved. Pyrolysis process was divided into three stages, rapid heating and water evaporation stage (20~150 °C), light component evaporation stage (150~240 °C) and heavy component cracking stage (240~300 °C). Due to the addition of magnetic ZnFe2O4 particles, the content of C4~C12 increased by 3.5%, and the content of C18+ decreased by 4.1%, indicating that more recombinant components participated in the reaction pyrolysis to form light gas components. The kinetic analysis showed that the activation energy of oily sludge decreased by 36.49% and the pre-exponential factor decreased by 91.39% in stage III, indicating that magnetic nanoparticles had good catalytic activity.

To investigate the role of sulfhydryl groups and disulfide bonds in different protein-stabilized emulsions, N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) was used as a sulfhydryl-blocking agent added in the emulsion. The addition of NEM to block the sulfhydryl groups resulted in a reduction in disulfide bond formation, which enabled the internal structure of the protein molecule to be destroyed, and then decreased the restriction of protein membrane on the oil droplets. Furthermore, with the NEM content increasing in the emulsion, a reduction in the protein emulsifying activity and emulsion stability also occurred. At the same time, the intermolecular interaction of the protein on the oil droplet interface membrane was destroyed, and the emulsion droplet size increased with the NEM content in the emulsion. Although NEM blocking sulfhydryl groups from forming disulfide bonds has similar effects on three types of protein emulsion, the degree of myofibrillar protein (MP), egg-white protein isolate (EPI), and soybean protein isolate (SPI) used as emulsifiers had a subtle difference.

Enclosing plays a crucial role in vegetation and soil quality in grassland. The biomass of green plants, litter, and vertical distributions of soil physical properties and nutrient stocks were evaluated at plot enclosed long term for 38 years inside a fence and a long-term grazing plot outside a fence in a semi-arid grassland of Inner Mongolia. The results showed that dry matter of green plants and litter during the 38-year enclosing treatment was higher than in the grazing treatment (p < 0.01). The soil silt (2–50 μm) in the 38-year enclosing treatment was 5.9% higher than in the grazing treatment (p < 0.01) in 0–10 cm soil, and the fine sand (100–250 μm) was 6.0% lower (p < 0.05). The 38-year enclosing treatment slightly decreased the bulk density and significantly decreased the electrical conductivity in each soil layer (0–100 cm). The 38-year enclosing treatment significantly increased the stocks of soil organic carbon (SOC), available phosphorus (AP), and available potassium (AK) on the surface soil, and obviously decreased the stocks of total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), sulfur (S), and available nitrogen (AN) in each soil layer (0–100 cm). In conclusion, long-term enclosing improved grassland production, but decreased most nutrient stocks in soil.

Grazing and enclosing are two of the most important grassland managements. In order to evaluate the effects of different managements on the ecosystem balance of grassland, the vertical distributions of soil nutrients and their stoichiometric ratios were determined in the plots of grazing and enclosing over 38 years in a semi-arid grassland of Inner Mongolia. The results showed that total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), available nitrogen (AN), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg) and sulfur (S) contents in 0–100 cm soil in the long term enclosing plot were lower than the long term grazing plot and these changes were much greater in the surface soil than in deep soil. However, the soil organic carbon (SOC) and available phosphorus (AP) contents in the long term enclosing plot in the surface soil were higher (p < 0.01) compared with the long term grazing plot. In addition, long term enclosing increased the C/N ratio in each soil layer and improved C/K and C/P ratios in the surface soil compared with long term grazing. However, significant decreases of N/P and N/K ratios in the long term enclosing plot in each soil layer were observed. In conclusion, enclosing for 38 years decreased most of nutrients and reduced the nutrients’ mineralization in the surface soil especially and thus might restrict nutrients cycling in a semi-arid grassland of Inner Mongolia.

The multi-component system of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is very complicated. The clusters are dynamic aggregates whose molecules are held together by hydrogen-bonded, Van der Waals forces or the opposite charges of particles attract each other. In this paper, field emission scanning electron microscopy proved that molecules form clusters in Pueraria thomsonii Benth (Fenge) water decoction. Four kinds of Fenge water decoction, 0.07 g∙mL−1 (F-1), 0.1 g∙mL−1 (F-2), 0.17 g∙mL−1 (F-3), 0.35 g∙mL−1 (F-4); F-1, average diameter of molecular was about 120 nm; F-2, 195 nm; F-3, 256 nm; and F-4, 480 nm. The molecular size was shown to depend on concentration. Rabbits were given equal does of 2.8 g∙kg−1, to perfuse F-1, F-2, F-3, F-4 in volume of 80 mL, 56 mL, 33 mL, 17 mL, respectively. At 0–180 min to collect 2 mL blood from the rabbit ears middle arteries for metabolism fingerprints, the results show the particle size of molecular is smaller, the absorption of drugs is better instead. The acute blood stasis model rats were treatment with Fenge decoction of 1.5 g∙kg−1 for 14 days, the concentrations of Ang II in plasma were significantly lower in F-1 and F-2 groups than those in model group (p < 0.01 or p < 0.05), but there were no significantly difference in F-3 and F-4 groups than those in model group (p > 0.05). Despite the molecular aggregation is a common physical phenomenon, it influence on the kind and amount of molecule per unit volume. Molecules morphology influence on the absorption behavior of drugs in vivo therefore is to have an impact on pharmacological function.

A label-free split G-quadruplex and graphene oxide (GO)-based fluorescence platform has been designed to distinguish Pseudostellaria heterophylla (PH) from its adulterants based on the differences in their nrDNA ITS sequences. Herein, GO has been first introduced to capture G-rich probes with 2:2 split mode and then decrease the background signal. As T-DNA exists, the probes leave the GO surface to form double-stranded structures followed by the formation of the overhanging G-rich sequence into a G-quadruplex structure, which combines quinaldine red specifically to produce a strong fluorescence signal. In addition, this strategy allows detection of T-DNA in a wide range of concentrations from 1.0 × 10−8 to 2.0 × 10−6 mol·L−1 with a detection limit of 7.8 × 10−9 mol·L−1. We hope that the split G-quadruplex/GO platform can be utilized to further develop gene identification sensors in Traditional Chinese Medicine or other analysis areas.

With an internal transcribed spacer of 18 S, 5.8 S and 26 S nuclear ribosomal DNA (nrDNA ITS) as DNA marker, we report a colorimetric approach for authentication of Pseudostellaria heterophylla (PH) and its counterfeit species based on the differentiation of the nrDNA ITS sequence. The assay possesses an unlabelled G-quadruplex DNAzyme molecular beacon (MB) probe, employing complementary sequence as biorecognition element and 1:1:1:1 split G-quadruplex halves as reporter. In the absence of target DNA (T-DNA), the probe can shape intermolecular G-quadruplex structures capable of binding hemin to form G-quadruplex-hemin DNAzyme and catalyze the oxidation of ABTS2− to blue-green ABTS•− by H2O2. In the presence of T-DNA, T-DNA can hybridize with the complementary sequence to form a duplex structure, hindering the formation of the G-quadruplex structure and resulting in the loss of the catalytic activity. Consequently, a UV-Vis absorption signal decrease is observed in the ABTS2−-H2O2 system. The “turn-off” assay allows the detection of T-DNA from 1.0 × 10−9 to 3.0 × 10−7 mol·L−1 (R2 = 0.9906), with a low detection limit of 3.1 × 10−10 mol·L−1. The present study provides a sensitive and selective method and may serve as a foundation of utilizing the DNAzyme MB sensor for identifying traditional Chinese medicines.

Pseudostellaria heterophylla (Miq.) Pax is one of the most widespread herbal and healthcare products in China. Extensive clinical use has shown that it has functions which “strengthens qi and generates saliva, moistens the lung and relieves cough”. The ethyl acetate fraction extracted from the roots of the plant Pseudostellaria heterophylla exhibited a dose-dependent antitussive effect between 100 to 500 mg/kg. At a dose of 400 mg/kg, the ethyl acetate fraction treatment markedly prolonged the cough latent period and reduced the number of coughs in a guinea pig model induced by citric acid. Fall lung airway resistance, rise in dynamic lung compliance, decreased serum levels of IL-8, GM-CSF, TNF-α, and ET-1 in rat model of stable phase chronic obstructive pulmonary disease induced by cigarette smoke exposure were also observed. These results suggest that ethyl acetate fraction has antitussive activity related to its improvement in lung function via attenuation of airway inflammation by adjustment of multi-cytokine levels.

This paper presents a wind-methanol-fuel cell system with hydrogen storage. It can manage various energy flow to provide stable wind power supply, produce constant methanol, and reduce CO2 emissions. Firstly, this study establishes the theoretical basis and formulation algorithms. And then, computational experiments are developed with MATLAB/Simulink (R2016a, MathWorks, Natick, MA, USA). Real data are used to fit the developed models in the study. From the test results, the developed system can generate maximum electricity whilst maintaining a stable production of methanol with the aid of a hybrid energy storage system (HESS). A sophisticated control scheme is also developed to coordinate these actions to achieve satisfactory system performance.

The semi-refined polysaccharide of Pseudostellaria heterophylla is a complex polysaccharide that exhibits significantly hypoglycemic activities. A novel homogeneous polysaccharide, named as H-1-2, was isolated from the semi-refined polysaccharide. The mean molecular weight of H-1-2 was 1.4 × 104 Da and it was only composed of d-glucose monosaccharide. Structure elucidation indicated that H-1-2 contains pyranride, and has the characteristics of the α-iso-head configuration, a non-reducing end (T-), 4-, 1,6-, and 1,4,6-connection, in all four ways to connect glucose. H-1-2 was a type of glucan, where chemical combination exists in the main chain between 1→4 linked glucose, and contains a small amount of 1,6-linked glucose, which was in the branched chain. In vitro HepG2, 3T3-L1, and L6 cells were used to assess cellular glucose consumption and cellular glucose uptake by glucose oxidase, and the transport of 2-NBDG fluorescence probe results showed that H-1-2 could clearly increase glucose uptake and utilization in muscle and adipose cells, which is beneficial to screen for in the discovery of anti-diabetes lead compounds. H-1-2 was labeled with radioisotopes (99mTc-pertechnetate). 99mTc-labeled-H-1-2 was performed by SPECT/CT analysis images after oral administration in rats. At 4 h post ingestion, about 50% of the radioactivity was observed in the intestine. No significant radioactivity was found in the heart, liver, and kidney, conjecturing that absorption of 99mTc-labeled H-1-2 might, via intestinal mucosa, be absorbed into systemic circulation. This problem, as to whether the polysaccharide is absorbed orally, will need further examination.

The complexity of traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) is related to their multi-component system. TCM aqueous decoction is a common clinical oral formulation. Between molecules in solution, there exist intermolecular strong interactions to form chemical bonds or weak non-bonding interactions such as hydrogen bonds and Van der Waals forces, which hold molecules together to form “molecular aggregates”. Taking the TCM Puerariae lobatae Radix (Gegen) as an example, we explored four Gegen decoctions of different concentration of 0.019, 0.038, 0.075, and 0.30 g/mL, named G-1, G-2, G-3, and G-4. In order of molecular aggregate size (diameter) the four kinds of solution were ranked G-1 < G-2 < G-3 < G-4 by Flow Cell 200S IPAC image analysis. A rabbit vertebrobasilar artery insufficiency (VBI) model was set up and they were given Gegen decoction (GGD) at a clinical dosage of 0.82 g/kg (achieved by adjusting the gastric perfusion volume depending on the concentration). The HPLC fingerprint of rabbit plasma showed that the chemical component absorption into blood in order of peak area values was G-1 < G-2 > G-3 > G-4. Puerarin and daidzin are the major constituents of Gegen, and the pharmacokinetics of G-1 and G-2 puerarin conformed with the two compartment open model, while for G-3 and G-4, they conformed to a one compartment open model. For all four GGDs the pharmacokinetics of daidzin complied with a one compartment open model. FQ-PCR assays of rabbits’ vertebrobasilar arterial tissue were performed to determine the pharmacodynamic profiles of the four GGDs. GGD markedly lowered the level of AT1R mRNA, while the AT2R mRNA level was increased significantly vs. the VBI model, and G-2 was the most effective. In theory the dosage was equal to the blood drug concentration and should be consistent; however, the formation of molecular aggregates affects drug absorption and metabolism, and therefore influences drugs’ effects. Our data provided references for the rational use of Chinese medicines in the clinic, such as the best oral preparation and decoction concentration.

An investigation is undertaken to explore a sudden quasi-linear precipitation and gale event that transpired in the afternoon of 30 May 2024 over Beijing. It was situated at the southwestern periphery of a double-center low-vortex system, where a moisture-rich belt efficiently channeled abundant warm, humid air northward from the south. The interplay between dynamical lifting, convergent airflow-induced uplift, and the amplifying effects of the northern mountainous terrain’s topography creates favorable conditions that support the development and persistence of quasi-linear convective precipitation, accompanied by gale-force winds at the surface. The study also analyzes the impacts of five microphysics schemes (Lin, WSM6, Goddard, Morrison, and WDM6) employed in a weather research and forecasting (WRF) numerical model, with which the simulated rainfall and radar reflectivity are compared against ground-based rain gauge network and weather radar observations, respectively. Simulations with the five microphysics schemes demonstrate commendable skills in replicating the macroscopic quasi-linear pattern of the event. Among the schemes assessed, the WSM6 scheme exhibits its superior agreement with radar observations. The Morrison scheme demonstrates superior performance in predicting cumulative rainfall. Nevertheless, five microphysics schemes exhibit limitations in predicting the rainfall amount, the rainfall duration, and the rainfall area, with a discernible lag of approximately 30 min in predicting precipitation onset, indicating a tendency to forecast peak rainfall events slightly posterior to their true occurrence. Furthermore, substantial disparities emerge in the simulation of the vertical distribution of hydrometeors, underscoring the intricacies of microphysical processes.

Plants are an important source for the discovery of novel natural growth regulators. We used activity screening to demonstrate that treatment of Nipponbare seeds with 25 μg/mL isopimaric acid significantly increased the resulting shoot length, root length, and shoot weight of rice seedlings by 11.37 ± 5.05%, 12.96 ± 7.63%, and 27.98 ± 10.88% and that it has a higher activity than Gibberellin A3 (GA3) at the same concentration. A total of 213 inbred lines of different rice lineages were screened, and we found that isopimaric acid had different growth promotional activities on rice seedlings of different varieties. After induction with 25 μg/mL isopimaric acid, 15.02% of the rice varieties tested showed increased growth, while 15.96% of the varieties showed decreased growth; the growth of the remaining 69.02% did not show any significant change from the control. In the rice varieties showing an increase in growth, the shoot length and shoot weight significantly increased, accounting for 21.88% and 31.25%. The root length and weight significantly increased, accounting for 6.25% and 3.13%. Using genome-wide association studies (GWASs), linkage disequilibrium block, and gene haplotype significance analysis, we identified single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) signals that were significantly associated with the length and weight of shoots on chromosomes 2 and 8, respectively. After that, we obtained 17 candidate genes related to the length of shoots and 4 candidate genes related to the weight of shoots. Finally, from the gene annotation data and gene tissue-specific expression; two genes related to this isopimaric acid regulation phenotype were identified as OsASC1 (LOC_Os02g37080) on chromosome 2 and OsBUD13 (LOC_Os08g08080) on chromosome 8. Subcellular localization analysis indicated that OsASC1 was expressed in the plasma membrane and the nuclear membrane, while OsBUD13 was expressed in the nucleus. Further RT-qPCR analysis showed that the relative expression levels of the resistance gene OsASC1 and the antibody protein gene OsBUD13 decreased significantly following treatment with 25 μg/mL isopimaric acid. These results suggest that isopimaric acid may inhibit defense pathways in order to promote the growth of rice seedlings.

Starch is the main component that determines the yield and quality of Tartary buckwheat. As a quantitative trait, using quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping to excavate genes associated with starch-related traits is crucial for understanding the genetic mechanisms involved in starch synthesis and molecular breeding of Tartary buckwheat varieties with high-quality starch. Employing a recombinant inbred line population as research material, this study used QTL mapping to investigate the amylose, amylopectin, and total starch contents across four distinct environments. The results identified a total of 20 QTLs spanning six chromosomes, which explained 4.07% to 14.41% of the phenotypic variation. One major QTL cluster containing three stable QTLs governing both amylose and amylopectin content, qClu-4-1, was identified and located in the physical interval of 39.85–43.34 Mbp on chromosome Ft4. Within this cluster, we predicted 239 candidate genes and analyzed their SNP/InDel mutations, expression patterns, and enriched KEGG pathways. Ultimately, five key candidate genes, namely FtPinG0004897100.01, FtPinG0002636200.01, FtPinG0009329200.01, FtPinG0007371600.01, and FtPinG0005109900.01, were highlighted, which are potentially involved in starch synthesis and regulation, paving the way for further investigative studies. This study, for the first time, utilized QTL mapping to detect major QTLs controlling amylose, amylopectin, and total starch contents in Tartary buckwheat. The QTLs and candidate genes would provide valuable insights into the genetic mechanisms underlying starch synthesis and improving starch-related traits of Tartary buckwheat.

According to the requirements of Tartary buckwheat breeding, it is necessary to develop a method for the rapid detection of functional substances in seeds. To ensure a diverse sample pool, we utilized the stable recombinant inbred lines (RILs) of Tartary buckwheat. The coefficients of variation of the total flavonoid, vitamin E (VE), and GABA contents of the RIL population were 15.06, 16.53, and 36.93, respectively. Subsequently, we established prediction models for the functional substance contents in Tartary buckwheat using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) combined with chemometrics. The Kennard–Stone algorithm divided the dataset into training and test sets, employing six different methods for preprocessing spectra. The Competitive Adaptive Reweighted Sampling algorithm extracted the characteristic spectra. The best models for total flavonoid and VE were normalized using the first derivative. The calibration correlation coefficient (Rc) and prediction correlation coefficient (Rp) of the total flavonoid and VE prediction models were greater than 0.94. The optimal GABA prediction model underwent preprocessing via normalization combined with the standard normal variate, and the Rc and Rp values were greater than 0.93. The results demonstrated that the NIRS-based prediction model could satisfy the requirements for the rapid determination of total flavonoids, VE, and GABA in Tartary buckwheat seeds.

Due to the requirements for quality testing and breeding Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tartaricum Gaerth), it is necessary to find a method for the rapid detection of starch content in Tartary buckwheat. To obtain samples with a continuously distributed chemical value, stable Tartary buckwheat recombinant inbred lines were used. After scanning the near-infrared spectra of whole grains, we employed conventional methods to analyze the contents of Tartary buckwheat. The results showed that the contents of total starch, amylose, amylopectin, and resistant starch were 532.1–741.5 mg/g, 176.8–280.2 mg/g, 318.8–497.0 mg/g, and 45.1–105.2 mg/g, respectively. The prediction model for the different starch contents in Tartary buckwheat was established using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) in combination with chemometrics. The Kennard–Stone algorithm was used to split the training set and the test set. Six different methods were used to preprocess the spectra in the wavenumber range of 4000–12,000 cm−1. The Competitive Adaptive Reweighted Sampling algorithm was then used to extract the characteristic spectra, and the prediction model was built using the partial least squares method. Through a comprehensive analysis of each parameter of the model, the best model for the prediction of each nutrient was determined. The correlation coefficient of calibration (Rc) and the correlation coefficient of prediction (Rp) of the best models for total starch and amylose were greater than 0.95, and the Rc and Rp of the best models for amylopectin and resistant starch were also greater than 0.93. The results showed that the NIRS-based prediction model fulfilled the requirement for the rapid determination of Tartary buckwheat starch, thus providing an effective technical approach for the rapid and non-destructive testing of starch content in the food science and agricultural industry.

Anthocyanin is one important nutrition composition in Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum) sprouts, a component missing in its seeds. Although anthocyanin biosynthesis requires light, the mechanism of light-induced anthocyanin accumulation in Tartary buckwheat is unclear. Here, comparative transcriptome analysis of Tartary buckwheat sprouts under light and dark treatments and biochemical approaches were performed to identify the roles of one B-box protein BBX22 and ELONGATED HYPOCOTYL 5 (HY5). The overexpression assay showed that FtHY5 and FtBBX22 could both promote anthocyanin synthesis in red-flower tobacco. Additionally, FtBBX22 associated with FtHY5 to form a complex that activates the transcription of MYB transcription factor genes FtMYB42 and FtDFR, leading to anthocyanin accumulation. These findings revealed the regulation mechanism of light-induced anthocyanin synthesis and provide excellent gene resources for breeding high-quality Tartary buckwheat.

The task of multiple-tiny-object detection from diverse perspectives in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) using onboard edge devices is a significant and complex challenge within computer vision. In order to address this challenge, we propose a lightweight and efficient tiny-object-detection algorithm named LE-YOLO, based on the YOLOv8n architecture. To improve the detection performance and optimize the model efficiency, we present the LHGNet backbone, a more extensive feature extraction network, integrating depth-wise separable convolution and channel shuffle modules. This integration facilitates a thorough exploration of the inherent features within the network at deeper layers, promoting the fusion of local detail information and channel characteristics. Furthermore, we introduce the LGS bottleneck and LGSCSP fusion module incorporated into the neck, aiming to decrease the computational complexity while preserving the detector’s accuracy. Additionally, we enhance the detection accuracy by modifying its structure and the size of the feature maps. These improvements significantly enhance the model’s capability to capture tiny objects. The proposed LE-YOLO detector is examined in ablation and comparative experiments on the VisDrone2019 dataset. In contrast to YOLOv8n, the proposed LE-YOLO model achieved a 30.0% reduction in the parameter count, accompanied by a 15.9% increase in the mAP(0.5). These comprehensive experiments indicate that our approach can significantly enhance the detection accuracy and optimize the model efficiency through the organic combination of our suggested enhancements.

Furofuran lignans have been identified as the main substances responsible for the biological activities of the plant genus Phryma. Here, four new phrymarolin-type leptolignans A–D (7–10) and eight previously known lignans were isolated from P. leptostachya. Of these, nine exhibited significant antifeedant activity against armyworm (Mythimna separata) through a dual-choice bioassay, with the EC50 values ranging from 0.58 to 10.08 μg/cm2. In particular, the newly identified lignan leptolignan A (7) showed strong antifeedant activity, with an EC50 value of 0.58 ± 0.34 μg/cm2. Further investigation found that leptolignan A can inhibit the growth and nutritional indicators in the armyworm M. separata. The concentrations of two molting hormones, 20-hydroxyecdysone and ecdysone, were also found to decrease significantly following the treatment of the armyworms with the lignan, implying that the target of the P. leptostachya lignan may be involved in 20-hydroxyecdysone and ecdysone synthesis. These results enrich our knowledge of P. leptostachya metabolite structural diversity, and provide a theoretical basis for the control of armyworm using lignans.

Microplastics (MPs) are increasingly becoming recognized as worldwide environmental contaminants, exerting a substantial impact on the safety of city rivers. This study explored the temporal variance in MPs in different rainfall seasons, including spring, plum, and autumn rains. The Qinhuai River has large spatial fluctuations in MPs at six sampling sites, with an average concentration of 466.62 ± 153.69 items/L, and higher MP abundance was found downstream of spring rain and upstream of autumn rain. Among the different rainfall seasons, the variations in microplastics at various sampling sites were more stable in the plum rain season, with an average concentration of 473.67 ± 105.17 items/L, while the concentrations of TP and TN in the plum rain season were higher than those in other rain seasons. Transparent MPs had the highest abundance at many sampling sites in all seasons, and large-sized MPs (270–5000 μm) occurred more in the autumn rain season. PVC was more prevalent in autumn, but PET decreased in the plum rain season. Interestingly, more fibers, PET, and large-sized MPs were found in the autumn rain. The index of hazard scores of plastic polymers (H) revealed that the studied river was at a severe pollution level (IV), which was highly influenced by PVC and PC. In addition, the pollution load index (PLI) value in different rain seasons indicated slight pollution (I). At the same time, it was higher in autumn rains than in other seasons due to the higher variance in MPs. Therefore, the ecological risk of microplastics in the Qinhuai River should be seriously considered, along with seasonal variance and the PVC and PC polymers. Our research is expected to provide valuable assistance in improving the management of urban rivers.

During the operation of the longitudinal axis flow threshing device of a combine harvester, the threshed materials form accumulations and blockages on both sides of the screen surface, severely affecting the harvesting process. To evenly distribute the materials on the screen and solve the blockage issue, a multi-wing curved combination centrifugal fan is designed to match the mass distribution of the threshed materials. The movement mechanism of rice threshed materials in the cleaning shoe of a longitudinal axis flow combine harvester is investigated using the coupled CFD-DEM simulation method. The cleaning efficiency and performance of the traditional straight-blade fan screen device and the newly designed cleaning device are compared and analyzed, and field tests are conducted. The results show that the trajectory of the threshed materials cleaned by the device equipped with the multi-wing curved combination centrifugal fan is consistent with the mass distribution of the materials separated by the longitudinal axis flow threshing device. The absolute value of the centroid velocity of the material group in the X/Y direction is greater than that of the traditional fan, indicating that the movement speed of the particle group in the optimized fan is greater than that of the traditional fan. Therefore, in the actual cleaning process, the optimized fan’s air flow distribution more effectively accelerates the movement speed of the threshed materials, increasing the amount of materials cleaned per unit time, thereby improving the cleaning efficiency. Field comparative tests show that the designed cleaning device reduced the cleaning loss rate by up to 25.00% and the impurity content rate by 32.20%, achieving efficient and low-damage cleaning of the combine harvester. The study demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method for evenly distributing the materials and provides important reference for the study of other piled particle distribution systems.

Basic motor skills are recognized as fundamental movements that allow children to interact with their environment and are identified as the basic structure on which more complex movements are built. Objective: to identify the level of motor development of children from 3 to 10 years of age according to sex and age group. Methodology. We studied a sample with a total of 328 participants (girls = 170; boys = 158) at preschool (n = 154) and school levels (n = 174). The ages of the students ranged from 3 to 10 years, with a mean of 5.94 years (±2.53). TGMD2 was applied to identify motor development. Results: boys and girls present low levels of physical activity, with most of them in the very poor, poor, and low-average categories (n = 182, 55.5%). Levels of motor development in locomotion, manipulation, and general development by age show significant differences (p = 0.000). However, levels of development by sex are not significant in manipulation, locomotion, and gross motor skills tests, respectively (p = 0.150, p = 0.208, and p = 0.210), and in relation to chronological age and motor development age show significant differences (p = 0.000).

This work introduces a quantum K-Nearest Neighbor (K-NN) classifier algorithm. The algorithm utilizes angle encoding through a Quantum Random Access Memory (QRAM) using n number of qubit addresses with O(log(n)) space complexity. It incorporates Grover’s algorithm and the quantum SWAP-Test to identify similar states and determine the nearest neighbors with high probability, achieving Om search complexity, where m is the qubit address. We implement a simulation of the algorithm using IBM’s Qiskit with GPU support, applying it to the Iris and MNIST datasets with two different angle encodings. The experiments employ multiple QRAM cell sizes (8, 16, 32, 64, 128) and perform ten trials per size. According to the performance, accuracy values in the Iris dataset range from 89.3 ± 5.78% to 94.0 ± 1.56%. The MNIST dataset’s mean binary accuracy values range from 79.45 ± 18.84% to 94.00 ± 2.11% for classes 0 and 1. Additionally, a comparison of the results of this proposed approach with different state-of-the-art versions of QK-NN and the classical K-NN using Scikit-learn. This method achieves a 96.4 ± 2.22% accuracy in the Iris dataset. Finally, this proposal contributes an experimental result to the state of the art for the MNIST dataset, achieving an accuracy of 96.55 ± 2.00%. This work presents a new implementation proposal for QK-NN and conducts multiple experiments that yield more robust results than previous implementations. Although our average performance approaches still need to surpass the classic results, an experimental increase in the size of QRAM or the amount of data to encode is not achieved due to limitations. However, our results show promising improvement when considering working with more feature numbers and accommodating more data in the QRAM.

Rice is one of the most important staple crops in the world; therefore, the improvement of rice holds great significance for enhancing agricultural production and addressing food security challenges. Although there have been numerous studies on the role of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in rice improvement with the development of next-generation sequencing technologies, research on the role of presence/absence variations (PAVs) in the improvement of rice is limited. In particular, there is a scarcity of studies exploring the traits and genes that may be affected by PAVs in rice. Here, we extracted PAVs utilizing resequencing data from 148 improved rice varieties distributed in Asia. We detected a total of 33,220 PAVs and found that the number of variations decreased gradually as the length of the PAVs increased. The number of PAVs was the highest on chromosome 1. Furthermore, we identified a 6 Mb hotspot region on chromosome 11 containing 1091 PAVs in which there were 29 genes related to defense responses. By conducting a genome-wide association study (GWAS) using PAV variation data and phenotypic data for five traits (flowering time, plant height, flag leaf length, flag leaf width, and panicle number) across all materials, we identified 186 significantly associated PAVs involving 20 cloned genes. A haplotype analysis and expression analysis of candidate genes revealed that important genes might be affected by PAVs, such as the flowering time gene OsSFL1 and the flag leaf width gene NAL1. Our work investigated the pattern in PAVs and explored important PAV key functional genes associated with agronomic traits. Consequently, these results provide potential and exploitable genetic resources for rice breeding.

Modified invasion games promote the development of real and perceived motor competence. Children with higher motor competence are more likely to participate in physical activity practice and to remain in it, both in adolescence and adulthood. (1) Background: The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of modified invasion games on the real motor competence and self-assessment of the physical condition fifth-grade students from a private school in Viña del Mar, Chile. (2) Methods: 40 girls and boys with an average age of 11.47 years (SD = 0.554) participated in this study during a 12-week intervention. The MOBAK 5-6 battery was used to assess actual motor competence, the SEMOK questionnaire was used to determine perceived motor competence, the International Fitness Scale (IFIS) self-assessment questionnaire was used to assess perceived physical fitness, and the weight/size ratio was used to determine BMI. A Friedman’s nonparametric ANOVA analysis was applied to determine the effect of the intervention, in addition to an analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) to identify the influence of the covariates on motor competence. (3) Results: No statistically significant differences were established between weight, BMI, and waist circumference. There was a statistically significant difference after the intervention in the actual motor competence of object control (p = 0.005) and perceived motor competence of object control (p ≤ 0.001) (4) Conclusions: An intervention based on modified invasion games is effective for the improvement of actual and perceived motor competence of object control. It was not possible to identify a positive effect on the self-assessment of muscle strength after the intervention.

Previous studies have shown that Dendrobium nobile Lindl. alkaloids (DNLAs) have neuroprotective effects in several Alzheimer’s disease (AD) models. Dendrobine (DDB) is one of the monomer components with the highest content in DNLAs. However, the effects of DDB on cognitive impairments in AD remain unknown. In this study, we investigated the efficacy of DDB in 3 × Tg-AD mice to determine whether DDB was a key component of the anti-AD effect of DNLAs. Five-month mice were intragastrically administrated with DDB (10 and 20 mg/kg/d) or DNLAs (20 mg/kg/d) for seven consecutive months, and the effects of DDB and DNLAs were evaluated at twelve months. The results revealed that 3 × Tg-AD mice treated with DDB showed enhanced nesting ability. DDB also effectively rescued spatial learning and memory deficits in 3 × Tg-AD mice. Meanwhile, DDB treatment prevented the loss of dendritic spine density, with increased expression levels of synaptophysin, PSD95, and NCAM in the hippocampus. Finally, DDB ameliorated the increase in APP, sAPPβ, CTF-β, and β-amyloid peptides, accompanied by the promotion of GSK phosphorylation at the Ser9 site, thereby reducing hyperphosphorylated tau levels. As the active component of DNLA, DDB can preserve cognitive function, alleviate neuronal and synaptic defects, and improve APP/tau pathology in 3 × Tg-AD mice.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of feeding level on the growth and slaughter performance, and allometric growth of tissues and organs in female growing dairy goats. The trial included 10–20 and 20–30 kg weight stages with 48 female goat kids. The 24 goat kids in each stage were divided into 8 blocks based on weight, with 3 kids per block. Then, three kids from each block were randomly assigned to one of the three treatments, namely ad libitum (AL100), 70% of ad libitum (AL70), or 40% of ad libitum (AL40). The slaughter trial was conducted when the AL100 kids reached the target weight of 20 or 30 kg. The results showed that the ADG and feed conversion rate showed a linear decline as the feed level decreased (p < 0.05). Compared with the AL70 and AL100 groups, the AL40 group exhibited lower shrunk body weight, empty body weight, hot carcass weight, net meat rate, carcass meat rate, and visceral fat weight (p < 0.05) in both stages. Moreover, the AL40 group showed lower weights for skin and mohair, blood, rumen, small intestine, large intestine, mammary gland, and uterus than the AL70 and AL100 groups (p < 0.05) in both stages. However, feeding level did not affect organ indices in the two stages (p > 0.05). The bone, skin and mohair were isometric (b ≈ 1), but the muscle, visceral fat, and most internal organs were positive (b > 1) in both stages. We present an innovative method harnessing multistability within a diode-pumped erbium-doped fiber laser to construct logic gates. Our approach involves manipulating the intensity of external noise to regulate the probability of transitioning among four concurrent attractors. In this manner, we facilitate the realization of OR, AND, NOR, and NAND logic operations, aligning with the coexisting period-1, period-3, period-4, and period-5 orbits. Employing detrended fluctuation analysis, we establish equilibrium in the probability distributions of these states. The obtained results denote a substantial advancement in the field of optical logic gate development, representing a pivotal stride toward the seamless integration of an all-optical logic gate within laser oscillator-based systems.

In China, cadmium (Cd) stress has a significant role in limiting the development and productivity of purple flowering stalks (Brassica campestris var. purpuraria). Exogenous selenium supplementation has been demonstrated in earlier research to mitigate the effects of Cd stress in a range of plant species; nevertheless, the physiological and molecular processes by which exogenous selenium increases vegetable shoots’ resistance to Cd stress remain unclear. Purple flowering stalks (Brassica campestris var. purpuraria) were chosen as the study subject to examine the effects of treatment with sodium selenite (Na2SeO3) on the physiology and transcriptome alterations of cadmium stress. Purple flowering stalk leaves treated with exogenous selenium had higher glutathione content, photosynthetic capacity, and antioxidant enzyme activities compared to the leaves treated with Cd stress alone. Conversely, the contents of proline, soluble proteins, soluble sugars, malondialdehyde, and intercellular CO2 concentration tended to decrease. Transcriptome analysis revealed that 2643 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were implicated in the response of exogenous selenium treatment to Cd stress. The metabolic pathways associated with flavonoid production, carotenoid synthesis, glutathione metabolism, and glucosinolate biosynthesis were among those enriched in these differentially expressed genes. Furthermore, we discovered DEGs connected to the production route of glucosinolates. This work sheds fresh light on how purple flowering stalks’ tolerance to cadmium stress is improved by exogenous selenium.
