Thermochromic textiles possess the capability to indicate ambient temperature through color changes, enabling real-time temperature monitoring and providing temperature warnings for body heat management. In this study, three thermochromic dyes—blue, red, and yellow—were synthesized using crystalline violet lactone (CVL), 6′-(diethylamino)-1′,3′-dimethyl-fluoran (DDF), and 3′,6′-dimethoxyfluoran (DOF) as leuco dyes, respectively, with biomass tea polyphenol serving as the color developer and tetradecanol as the phase change material. The chemical structures of these dyes were characterized using UV spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and 1H NMR. The thermochromic mechanisms were investigated, revealing that the binding bonds between the leuco dyes and the color developer broke and reorganized with temperature changes, imparting reversible thermochromic property. Polyester fabrics were dyed using an impregnation method to produce three reversible thermochromic fabrics in blue, red, and yellow. The structure and properties of these fabrics were analyzed, showing a significant increase in the UPF value from 26.3 to approximately 100, indicating enhanced UV resistance. Water contact angle measurements revealed that the contact angle of undyed polyester fabrics was 139°, while that of dyed polyester fabrics decreased by about 40°, indicating improved hydrophilicity. Additionally, the fabric inductive static tester showed that the static voltage half-life of dyed polyester fabric was less than 1 s, demonstrating a significant antistatic effect. Infrared thermal imaging results indicated that during the warming and cooling process, the thermochromic polyester fabric exhibited specific energy storage and insulation effects at 38 °C, close to the human body temperature. This study presented a novel approach to developing smart color-changing textiles using biomass-derived thermochromic dyes, offering diverse materials for personal thermal management, and intelligent insulation applications.

A decoupled model predictive control (MPC) power balancing strategy for a coupled inductor-based flying capacitor DC–DC converter (FCDC) is a proposed to solve the power imbalance caused by the parameter differences in the coupled inductor. The decoupled mathematical model of coupled inductor FCDC is firstly derived by analyzing the converter operation state under various modes. On this basis, the control relationship between inductor current and flying capacitor (FC) voltage is redefined and an MPC power balance strategy based on the inductor current with single-step optimization is proposed. The proposed MPC strategy not only achieves decoupled power balancing control but also solves multi-objective dynamic optimization control of the inductor current and FC voltage, greatly reducing the computation load. A detailed theoretical analysis of the proposed strategy is presented and the balancing performance is effectively verified through the experiments.

Our study aims to investigate the water quality and distribution patterns of phytoplankton communities in the Jinjiang River Basin in Quanzhou, as well as their relationship with environmental factors. We integrated data from the national water quality databases of the two main tributaries of the West and East Jinjiang Rivers between 2020 and 2023, supplemented by field surveys. Redundancy analysis was used to explore the effect of environmental factors on phytoplankton communities. Our findings revealed that the West Jinjiang River experienced a significant influence from excessive fertilizer use in tea cultivation, leading to an increase in TN concentrations compared to the East Jinjiang River. The abundance of phytoplankton in the Jinjiang River Basin was 105 cells·L−1, with phytoplankton being dominated by Chlorophyta, Cyanphyta, and diatoms, accounting for an average of 50%, 20%, and 19% of the total phytoplankton abundance, respectively. Redundancy analysis indicated that temperature, pH, and nutrient concentrations were important factors influencing the phytoplankton communities. With increasing temperature and nutrients concentrations, the abundance of Chlorophyta and Dinophyta significantly increased. This study provides a solid foundation for the regular “health diagnosis” of crucial rivers and lakes in Quanzhou and supports the establishment of a health guarantee system for rivers and lakes.

In the design of flapping-wing micro-size air vehicles capable of hovering, wings serve as the primary source of hovering power, making the analysis of aerodynamics and aerodynamic efficiency crucial. Traditional quasi-steady models treat the wings as single rigid plane, neglecting the deformable characteristics of flexible wings. This paper proposes a multi-plane method that, in conjunction with various design parameters of flexible wings in a two-dimensional plane, analyzes their deformation characteristics under the assumption of multiple planes in three-dimensional space, and describes the deformation of wings during flapping. By combining the quasi-steady aerodynamic model, aerodynamic analysis of the deformed wings can be conducted. The relationship between the slack angle, wing flapping position, and wing deformation are analyzed, along with their effects on aerodynamics and aerodynamic efficiency. Experiments validate the deformation patterns of wings during flapping and compare the simulated aerodynamic forces with measured ones. The results indicate that wing deformation can be accurately described by adjusting the parameters in the multi-plane method and that the aerodynamic analysis using this method closely approximates the average lift results. Additionally, the multi-plane method establishes a connection between wing morphology and aerodynamic forces and efficiency, providing valuable insights for aerodynamic analysis.

Most of the driving mechanisms used in micro flapping wing vehicles are gear and linkage transmission mechanisms, which convert the unidirectional rotation of the motor into the reciprocating flapping of the driving mechanism. However, gear and linkage transmission mechanisms occupy a larger space and weight with certain energy losses. This article introduces a drive mechanism that is different from gear and linkage mechanisms, namely the string-based mechanism. In this study, the working principle and various parameters in string-based mechanisms are analyzed, and the flapping trajectory and amplitude of the mechanism is simulated. Following that, this article proposes an improved method of the cam mechanism, designs the trajectory of a cam mechanism, and a physical design is carried out with a driving mechanism width of 22 mm. Subsequently, the experiments are conducted to compare the flapping trajectory of the actual mechanism with the simulation trajectory, thereby verifying the simulation accuracy. The results prove that, in a string-based mechanism, the ratio of the radius of the pulley to the installation radius of the double-layer bearings has a direct impact on the flapping amplitude, and optimizing the design of cam mechanisms can effectively reduce the tensile and relaxation phenomena in string-based mechanisms. The above conclusion was verified in physical experiments, where the modified cam mechanism effectively reduced the stuck phenomenon in the string-based mechanism.

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is globally prevalent and seriously harms the economic efficiency of pig farming. Because of its immunosuppression and high incidence of mutant recombination, PRRSV poses a great challenge for disease prevention and control. Nonstructural protein 2 (NSP2) is the most variable functional protein in the PRRSV genome and can generate NSP2N and NSP2TF variants due to programmed ribosomal frameshifts. These variants are broad and complex in function and play key roles in numerous aspects of viral protein maturation, viral particle assembly, regulation of immunity, autophagy, apoptosis, cell cycle and cell morphology. In this paper, we review the structural composition, programmed ribosomal frameshift and biological properties of NSP2 to facilitate basic research on PRRSV and to provide theoretical support for disease prevention and control and therapeutic drug development.

The power conversion of salinity gradient energy (SGE) between concentrated brine from seawater desalination and seawater by reverse electrodialysis (RED) benefits energy conservation and also dilutes the discharge concentration to relieve the damage to coastal ecosystems. However, two key performance indexes of the maximum net power density and energy conversion efficiency for a RED stack harvesting the energy usually cannot reach the optimal simultaneously. Here, an optimization study on the two indexes was implemented to improve the performance of RED in harvesting the energy. A RED model for capturing the SGE between concentrated brine and seawater was constructed, and the correlation coefficients in the model were experimentally determined. Based on the model, the effects of a single variable (concentration, flow rate, temperature, thickness of the compartment, length of the electrode) on the performance of a RED stack are analyzed. The multi-objective optimization method based on the genetic algorithm was further introduced to obtain the optimal solution set, which could achieve the larger net power density and energy conversion efficiency with coordination. The ranges of optimal feed parameters and stack size were also obtained. The optimal flow velocity of the dilute solution and the concentration of the dilute solution are approximately 7.3 mm/s and 0.4 mol/kg, respectively.

Hollow nanocone arrays are fabricated by a low-cost and efficient colloidal lithography (CL) technique. The hollow nanocone arrays are then reversed to make only the tips contact the substrate. The optical properties of the obverse and inverse hollow nanocone arrays are determined by the surrounding environment, showing different reflection spectra and structure dependence. The inverse hollow nanocone arrays show a relative index sensitivity of 70% per RIU with strict linearity. The fluorescence of fluorophore or staining cells can be facilely enhanced by placing them on the tips of the hollow nanocone arrays, while having no quenching effect. The study of the obverse and inverse hollow nanocone arrays can benefit the understanding of the effect of the environment on the plasmonic resonances. The hollow nanocone arrays are promising to serve as high-performance plasmonic sensors and versatile substrates for surface-enhanced fluorescence imaging.

The beet webworm (Loxostege sticticalis L.) is an important agricultural pest and can tolerate harsh environmental conditions by entering diapause. The diapause mechanism of beet webworm is unknown. Therefore, we conducted a transcriptomic study of the process from diapause induction to diapause release in beet webworms. The results revealed 393 gene modules closely related to the diapause of beet webworm. The hub gene of the red module was the HDACI gene, which acts through histone deacetylase (HDAC) enzymes. HDAC enzyme activity was regulated by the light duration and influenced the JH content under induced beet webworm diapause conditions (12 h light:12 h dark). In addition, transcriptomic data suggested that circadian genes may not be the key genes responsible for beet webworm diapause. However, we showed that the photoperiod affects HDAC enzyme activity, and HDAC can regulate the involvement of JH in beet webworm diapause. This study provided a new module for studying insect diapause and links histone acetylation and diapause at the transcriptome level.

In accordance with the developing trend of “safety, comfort and low-carbon” technology, the market for intelligent X-by-wire chassis is huge. A new requirement of the X-by-wire system, including the response, accuracy, energy consumption and fault-tolerance, is put forward. Based on the analysis of the structure and design flow of the brake-by-wire (BBW) system, this paper analyzes the research status and development trend of the control methods of braking force, coordination control strategies and fault-tolerant control of the BBW system. The application possibilities of direct-driving technology in the BBW system are analyzed. At present, the key points of research focus on considering the influence of the multi-field coupling effect in the design, observing and compensating various nonlinear factors, and having a higher requirement for fault-tolerant control. Finally, an intelligent direct-driving BBW system is proposed as a research direction, which takes high efficiency and energy saving as a foothold and aims at breakthroughs in dynamic response, control accuracy and fault-tolerant abilities.

Adding an appropriate amount of Er element to Al-Zn-In alloys can improve the electrochemical performance of Al alloys; it is convenient to study the electrochemical behavior of the alloy in the rest of our work. However, Er segregation in solid solutions which reduced the comprehensive properties of alloys was difficult to reduce and there was no report on the homogenization of Al-Zn-In alloys. We found that the ultra-high temperature treatment (UHTT) can obviously reduce Er segregation. To explore the better homogenization treatment and the microstructure evolution of Al-5Zn-0.03In-1Er alloy after UHTT, we carried out a series of heat treatments on the alloy and characterized the microstructure of the alloy by optical microscopy (OM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy spectrum analysis (EDS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The results showed that the main element Er of the Al-Zn-In-Er was largely enriched in grain boundaries after UHTT; the distribution Zn and In was almost unchanged. The as-cast Al-Zn-In-Er alloy consisted mainly of α(Al) solid solution and Al3Er phase. As the temperature of UHTT increased and the treatment time prolonged, the precipitated phase dissolved into the matrix, and there were dispersed Al3Er particles in the crystal. The proper UHTT for reducing the interdendritic segregation of the alloy was 615 °C × 32 h, which was properly consistent with the results of the evolution of the statistical amount of interdendritic phase, the line scanning analysis and the microhardness. Moreover, the microhardness of the alloy after treatment of 615 °C × 32 h was obviously higher than that of the as-cast alloy because of the anchoring effect of Al3Er nanoparticles on the movement of dislocations.

The effect of Er-rich precipitates on microstructure and electrochemical behavior of the Al–Zn–In anode alloy is investigated. The results showed that with the increase in Er content, the microstructure was refined, the amount of interdendritic precipitates gradually increased, and the morphology changed from discontinuous to continuous network gradually. With the addition of Er element, the self-corrosion potential of the Al–5Zn–0.03In–xEr alloy moved positively, the self-corrosion current density decreased, and the corrosion resistance increased. When the Er content was less than 1 wt.%, the addition of Er improved the dissolution state of the Al–5Zn–0.03In–xEr alloy, and increased the current efficiency of the Al–5Zn–0.03In–xEr alloy. When the Er content was more than 1 wt.%, the current efficiency was reduced. The major precipitate of the alloy was Al3Er. According to the element composition of Al3Er in the Al–Zn–In–Er alloy, the simulated-segregated-phase alloy was melted to explain the effect of Al3Er segregation on the electrochemical behavior of alloys, and the polarization curve and AC impedance spectrum of the simulated-segregated-phase alloy and the Al–Zn–In alloy were measured. The results showed that Al3Er was an anodic segregation phase in the Al–Zn–In–Er alloy, and the preferential dissolution of the segregation phase would occur in the alloy, but the Al3Er phase itself was passivated in the dissolution process, which inhibited the further activation of the dissolution reaction of the Al–Zn–In–Er alloy to a certain extent.

Composite electrolytes consisting of polymers and three-dimensional (3D) fillers are considered to be promising electrolytes for solid lithium batteries owing to their virtues of continuous lithium-ion pathways and good mechanical properties. In the present study, an electrolyte with polyethylene oxide–lithium (bis trifluoromethyl) sulfate–succinonitrile (PLS) and frameworks of three-dimensional SiO2 nanofibers (3D SiO2 NFs) was prepared. Taking advantage of the highly conductive interfaces between 3D SiO2 NFs and PLS, the total conductivity of the electrolyte at 30 °C was approximately 9.32 × 10−5 S cm−1. With a thickness of 27 μm and a tensile strength of 7.4 MPa, the electrolyte achieved an area specific resistance of 29.0 Ω cm2. Moreover, such a 3D configuration could homogenize the electrical field, which was beneficial for suppressing dendrite growth. Consequently, Li/LiFePO4 cells assembled with PLS and 3D SiO2 NFs (PLS/3D SiO2 NFs), which delivered an original specific capacity of 167.9 mAh g−1, only suffered 3.28% capacity degradation after 100 cycles. In particular, these cells automatically shut down when PLS was decomposed above 400 °C, and the electrodes were separated by the solid framework of 3D SiO2 NFs. Therefore, the solid lithium batteries based on composite electrolytes reported here offer high safety at elevated temperatures.

A new preparation method of polymer dyes was developed to improve both the grafting degree of the azo dyes onto O-carboxymethyl chitosan (OMCS) and the water solubility of prepared polymer dyes. Firstly, the coupling compound of two azo edible colorants, sunset yellow (SY) and allura red (AR), was grafted onto OMCS, and then coupled with their diazonium salt. The chemical structure of prepared polymer dyes was determined by Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy and 1H-NMR, and the results showed that the two azo dyes were successfully grafted onto OMCS. The grafting degree onto OMCS and the water solubility of polymer dyes were tested, and the results showed that they were both improved as expected. The UV-vis spectra analysis results showed that the prepared polymer dyes showed similar color performance with the original azo dyes. Eventually, the cytotoxicity of prepared polymer dyes was tested and compared with the original azo dyes by a cytotoxicity test on human liver cell lines LO2, and the results showed that their grafting onto OMCS significantly reduced the cytotoxicity.

The western flower thrips Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) is an important invasive pest worldwide. Field-evolved resistance to the pesticide spinetoram is an increasing problem in the chemical control of this pest. Here, we examined changes in the frequency of a genetic mutation associated with spinetoram resistance, the G275E mutation in the acetylcholine receptor Foα6, in 62 field populations collected from 2009 to 2021 across areas of China invaded by this pest. We found a low frequency of the G275E mutation in populations collected at the early invasion stage, in contrast to a high frequency in native USA populations. However, the frequency of the G275E mutation has increased to a high level in recently collected populations, with the mutation becoming fixed in some populations. There was a correlation between the frequency of the G275E mutation and resistance to spinetoram as characterized by median lethal concentration, although two populations were outliers. These results showed that G275E mutation is one of the mechanisms conferring spinetoram resistance in many invading populations in China. Ongoing dispersal of the WFT may have facilitated a rapid increase in the G275E mutation across China. Our study highlights the rapid evolution of pesticide resistance in an invasive species and points to a useful marker for molecular diagnostics of spinetoram resistance.

Numerous gut microbes are associated with insects, but their composition remains largely unknown for many insect groups, along with factors influencing their composition. Here, we compared gut bacterial microbiota of two co-occurring agricultural pests, the peach fruit moth (PFM), Carposina sasakii, and the oriental fruit moth (OFM), Grapholita molesta, collected from different orchards and host plant species. Gut microbiota of both species was mainly composed of bacteria from Proteobacteria, followed by Firmicutes. The two species shared bacteria from the genera Pseudomonas, Gluconobacter, Acetobacter, and Pantoea. When we compared two pairs of PFM and OFM populations collected from the same host species and the same orchard, there is no difference in alpha and beta diversity in gut microbiota. When we compared gut microbiota of the same species and host plant from different orchards, alpha and beta diversity was different in populations of PFM collected from two pear orchards but not in other comparisons. Our study suggests that the two pests share many features of gut microbiota and environment in orchards is a main factor influencing their gut microbiota.
