High-precision Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite clocks are essential for LEO-augmented Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) services. Nowadays, high-precision LEO satellite clocks can be determined in real-time using a Kalman filter either onboard or on the ground, as long as the GNSS observations collected onboard LEO satellites can be transmitted to the ground in real-time. While various real-time and high-precision GNSS products are available nowadays in the latter case, their continuity and latencies in engineering reality are not as perfect as expected and will lead to unignorable impacts on the precision of the real-time LEO satellite clocks. In this study, based on real observations of Sentinel-3B, the impacts of different latencies and continuity of the real-time GNSS products on LEO real-time clocks are determined and discussed for two scenarios, namely the “epoch estimation” and “arc estimation” scenarios. The former case refers to the traditional filter-based processing epoch-by-epoch, and the latter case connects LEO satellite clocks from different rounds of filter-based processing under a certain arc length. The two scenarios lead to the “end-loss” and “mid-gap” situations. Latencies of the real-time GNSS products are discussed for the cases of orbit-only latency, clock-only latency, and combined forms, and different handling methods for the missing GNSS satellite clocks are discussed and compared. Results show that the real-time LEO satellite clock precision is very sensitive to the precision of real-time GNSS satellite clocks, and prediction of the latter becomes essential in case of their latencies. For the “end-loss” situation, with a latency of 30 to 120 s for the GNSS real-time clocks, the LEO satellite clock precision is reduced from about 0.2 to 0.28–0.57 ns. Waiting for the GNSS products in case of their short latencies and predicting the LEO satellite clocks instead could be a better option. For “arc-estimation”, when the gap of GNSS real-time products increases from 5 to 60 min, the real-time LEO clock precision decreases from 0.26 to 0.32 ns.

The insulin receptor (IR) plays a crucial role in the growth and metabolism of animals. However, there are still many questions regarding the IR in crustaceans, particularly their role in shrimp growth and glucose metabolism. In this study, we identified a novel insulin-like receptor gene in Litopenaeus vannamei and cloned its full length of 6439 bp. This gene exhibited a highly conserved sequence and structural characteristics. Phylogenetic analysis confirmed it as an unreported RTK2-type IR, namely, LvRTK2. Expression pattern analysis showed that LvRTK2 is primarily expressed in female reproductive and digestive organs. Through a series of in vivo and in vitro experiments, including glucose treatment, exogenous insulin treatment, and starvation treatment, LvRTK2 was confirmed to be involved in the endogenous glucose metabolic pathway of shrimp under different glucose variations. Moreover, long-term and short-term interference experiments with LvRTK2 revealed that the interference significantly reduced the shrimp growth rate and serum glucose clearance rate. Further studies indicated that LvRTK2 may regulate shrimp growth by modulating the downstream PI3K/AKT signaling pathway and a series of glucose metabolism events, such as glycolysis, gluconeogenesis, glycogen synthesis, and glycogenolysis. This report on the characteristics and functions of LvRTK2 confirms the important role of RTK2-type IRs in regulating shrimp growth and glucose metabolism.

The fast charge and discharge of a battery will significantly increase the overall temperature and thermal difference of the battery, which will further affect the working performance and safety of the battery. Therefore, a heat–fluid coupling topology optimization pipeline for developing radiation performance of the cooling plate is presented to ensure the thermal homogeneity of the battery in this paper. First, the Brinkman penalty model is utilized to construct the solid and fluid structures. Then, a local volume constraint is introduced to create the lattice structure to reduce the temperature difference of the cooling plate. Furthermore, a functionally graded lattice structure via a variable influence radius is presented to improve the radiation performance of the cooling plate when the thermal load is uneven. Numerical experiments are carried out to evaluate the performance of the presented methods on the optimization of the cooling plate, which indicates that the designed cooling plate by the proposed method improves the radiation performance when compared against a traditional straight channel and a SIMP-based optimal design.

The damage evolution process of layered rock is influenced by its fine structure, lamination direction, and confining pressure, exhibiting significant anisotropic characteristics. This study focuses on shale as the research object, employing indoor tests and theoretical analysis to define damage variables and initial damage based on ultrasonic wave velocity. This research investigates the damage evolution law of layered rock under varying confining pressures and dip angles. The findings reveal that damage variables defined using transverse wave velocity effectively reflect the damage evolution process. Additionally, confining pressure significantly affects damage evolution, with increasing pressure causing a rightward shift in the damage variable–strain curve and an increase in initial damage. The slab inclination angle also influences damage evolution; samples with 45° and 60° inclinations are more susceptible to damage, with initial damage showing a trend of increasing and then decreasing. To accurately describe the relationship between damage variables and strain during the loading process, this paper establishes a segmented damage evolution equation characterized by wave velocity. Initially, an inverse proportional function is employed to characterize the strain before crack closure. Subsequently, a logistic function represents the curve from crack strain to peak strain. This combined approach provides a comprehensive depiction of the damage evolution. This study underscores the importance of considering confining pressure and laminar inclination in the analysis of rock stability and integrity. These results provide critical insights into the damage evolution characteristics of layered rocks, offering valuable references for engineering safety assessments.

Enhancing crop nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) in agricultural sciences is a pivotal challenge, particularly for high-demand crops like potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.), the world’s third most significant food crop. This study delves into the molecular responses of potatoes to low nitrogen (LN) stress, employing an integrative approach that combines transcriptomics and metabolomics to compare two cultivars with divergent NUE traits: XS6, known for its high NUE, and NS7, characterized by lower NUE. Our research unveils that XS6 exhibits higher chlorophyll and N content, increased tuber yield, and elevated N assimilation capacity under LN stress conditions compared to NS7. Through transcriptome analysis, we identified critical genes involved in C and N metabolism that had higher expression in XS6. A significant discovery was the high-affinity nitrate transporter 2.7 gene, which showed elevated expression in XS6, suggesting its key role in enhancing NUE. Metabolomics analysis further complemented these findings, revealing a sophisticated alteration of 1252 metabolites under LN stress, highlighting the dynamic interplay between carbon and N metabolism in coping with N scarcity. The integration of transcriptomic and metabolomic data underscored the crucial role of trehalose in mitigating N deficiency and enhancing NUE. This study provides novel insights into the molecular mechanisms governing NUE in potatoes, offering valuable perspectives for molecular breeding to enhance NUE in potatoes and potentially other crops.

Due to the advantages of a centralized critic to estimate the Q-function value and decentralized actors to optimize the agents’ policies, counterfactual multi-agent (COMA) stands out in most multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) algorithms. The sharing of policy parameters can improve sampling efficiency and learning effectiveness, but it may lead to a lack of policy diversity. Hence, to balance parameter sharing and diversity among agents in COMA has been a persistent research topic. In this paper, an effective training method for a COMA policy network based on a differential evolution (DE) algorithm is proposed, named DE-COMA. DE-COMA introduces individuals in a population as computational units to construct the policy network with operations such as mutation, crossover, and selection. The average return of DE-COMA is set as the fitness function, and the best individual of policy network will be chosen for the next generation. By maintaining better parameter sharing to enhance parameter diversity, multi-agent strategies will become more exploratory. To validate the effectiveness of DE-COMA, experiments were conducted in the StarCraft II environment with 2s_vs_1sc, 2s3z, 3m, and 8m battle scenarios. Experimental results demonstrate that DE-COMA significantly outperforms the traditional COMA and most other multi-agent reinforcement learning algorithms in terms of win rate and convergence speed.

Histone modification plays a crucial role in chromatin remodeling and regulating gene expression, and participates in various biological processes, including plant development and responses to stress. Several gene families related to histone modification have been reported in various plant species. However, the identification of members and their functions in the rice (Oryza sativa L.) histone modification gene family (OsHM) at the whole-genome level remains unclear. In this study, a total of 130 OsHMs were identified through a genome-wide analysis. The OsHM gene family can be classified into 11 subfamilies based on a phylogenetic analysis. An analysis of the genes structures and conserved motifs indicates that members of each subfamily share specific conserved protein structures, suggesting their potential conserved functions. Molecular evolutionary analysis reveals that a significant number of OsHMs proteins originated from gene duplication events, particularly segmental duplications. Additionally, transcriptome analysis demonstrates that OsHMs are widely expressed in various tissues of rice and are responsive to multiple abiotic stresses. Fourteen OsHMs exhibit high expression in rice anthers and peaked at different pollen developmental stages. RT-qPCR results further elucidate the expression patterns of these 14 OsHMs during different developmental stages of anthers, highlighting their high expression during the meiosis and tetrad stages, as well as in the late stage of pollen development. Remarkably, OsSDG713 and OsSDG727 were further identified to be nucleus-localized. This study provides a fundamental framework for further exploring the gene functions of HMs in plants, particularly for researching their functions and potential applications in rice anthers’ development and male sterility.

With the continuous development of the geological engineering field, high-voltage electric pulse plasma rock-fracturing technology has become a research hotspot in recent years. It is now widely recognized that this fracturing technology has many application prospects and great economic benefits. Through the research process of this technology, it has proven to be an efficient and new type of rock-fracturing technology, which overcomes the problems of high cost, low efficiency, high safety risk, and serious pollution associated with traditional rock-fracturing technology. Also, it has unique advantages in terms of protecting the environment and reducing damage to the surrounding buildings. This paper reviews the research history of plasma shock wave influencing factors and pulsed discharge plasma rock-fracturing technology, summarizes the research on this technology from the perspectives of the mechanism of high-voltage electric pulse plasma rock fracturing and practical application, and discusses the feasibility of this technology when applied to the field of tunnel boring as well as the future development direction. This technology can be better used in the tunnel-boring field, which can greatly improve the tunnel-boring efficiency, but at present, the research on plasma rock-fracturing-assisted tunnel boring is still in the laboratory research stage, which lacks systematic research equipment and judging indexes, and the follow-up should focus on improving the systematic research capabilities of the plasma rock-fracturing-assisted tunnel-boring equipment, and systematically and comprehensively carry out research on rock-fracturing by plasma-assisted excavation equipment.

The utilization of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites is anticipated to augment various aspects of traditional GNSS-based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) services. While the LEO satellite orbital products can nowadays be produced with rather high accuracy in real-time of a few centimeters, the precision of the LEO satellite clock products that can be achieved in real-time is less studied. The latter, however, plays an essential role in the LEO-augmented positioning and timing performances. In real-time, the users eventually use the predicted LEO satellite clocks, with their precision determined by both the near-real-time clock precision and the prediction time needed to match the time window for real-time applications, i.e., the precision loss during the prediction phase. In this study, a real-time LEO satellite clock determination method, consisting of near-real-time clock determination with ultra-short-term clock prediction is proposed and implemented. The principles and strategies of this method are discussed in detail. The proposed method utilized Kalman-filter-based processing, but supports restarts at pre-defined times, thus hampering continuous bias propagation and accumulation from ancient epochs. Based on the method, using Sentinel-3B GNSS observations and the real-time GNSS products from the National Center for Space Studies (CNES) in France, the near-real-time LEO satellite clocks can reach a precision of 0.2 to 0.3 ns, and the precision loss during the prediction phase is within 0.07 ns for a prediction time window from 30 to 90 s. This results in a total error budget in the real-time LEO satellite clocks of about 0.3 ns.

In this paper, a Segment Anything Model (SAM)-based pedestrian infrastructure segmentation workflow is designed and optimized, which is capable of efficiently processing multi-sourced geospatial data, including LiDAR data and satellite imagery data. We used an expanded definition of pedestrian infrastructure inventory, which goes beyond the traditional transportation elements to include street furniture objects that are important for accessibility but are often omitted from the traditional definition. Our contributions lie in producing the necessary knowledge to answer the following three questions. First, how can mobile LiDAR technology be leveraged to produce comprehensive pedestrian-accessible infrastructure inventory? Second, which data representation can facilitate zero-shot segmentation of infrastructure objects with SAM? Third, how well does the SAM-based method perform on segmenting pedestrian infrastructure objects? Our proposed method is designed to efficiently create pedestrian-accessible infrastructure inventory through the zero-shot segmentation of multi-sourced geospatial datasets. Through addressing three research questions, we show how the multi-mode data should be prepared, what data representation works best for what asset features, and how SAM performs on these data presentations. Our findings indicate that street-view images generated from mobile LiDAR point-cloud data, when paired with satellite imagery data, can work efficiently with SAM to create a scalable pedestrian infrastructure inventory approach with immediate benefits to GIS professionals, city managers, transportation owners, and walkers, especially those with travel-limiting disabilities, such as individuals who are blind, have low vision, or experience mobility disabilities.

A giant electric field on a subwavelength scale is highly beneficial for boosting the light–matter interaction. In this paper, we investigated a hybrid structure consisting of a hemispheric dimer array and a gold film and realized resonant mode coupling of the surface lattice resonance (SLR) and surface plasmon polariton (SPP). Mode coupling is demonstrated by observing anti-crossing in reflection spectra, which corresponds to Rabi splitting. Although the resonance coupling does not enter the strong coupling regime, an improved quality factor (Q~350) and stronger electric field enhancement in the gap region of the dimer (i.e., hot spot) in our hybrid structure are obtained compared to those of the single dimer or dimer array only. Remarkably, the magnitude of electric field enhancement over 500 can be accessible. Such high field enhancement makes our hybridized structure a versatile platform for the realization of ultra-sensitive biosensing, low-threshold nanolasing, low-power nonlinear optical devices, etc.

Safety barriers (SBs) are important means of reducing failure risks of process systems. As barriers vary in type and function, their effectiveness needs to be evaluated in order to find a more reasonable configuration strategy. However, in practice, there is often a lack of accurate and complete data relating to SBs, which poses a significant challenge in quantitatively assessing their effectiveness. To address this issue, in this study, we propose a semi-quantitative approach for evaluating the effectiveness of both preventive and protective barriers in process systems by integrating expert elicitation, interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy numbers (IVIFNs), and a bow-tie model. In this approach, the bow-tie model is first applied to describe the system failure scenarios and the action phases of the barriers, and then IVIFNs with expert judgment are introduced to obtain the failure probabilities of basic events and the effects of SBs. Subsequently, the effectiveness of each barrier is measured by comparing the relative change in failure risk due to the addition of the barrier. To verify the feasibility of this approach, a natural gas storage tank with some barriers was analyzed. The results show that the regular inspection of the deformation or damage of the storage tank has the highest effectiveness, followed by the installation and regular maintenance of safety electrical equipment. Furthermore, compared to a single barrier, multiple barriers can significantly reduce the system risk.

During the growth stage of soybean seedlings, it is crucial to quickly and precisely identify them for emergence rate assessment and field management. Traditional manual counting methods have some limitations in scenarios with large-scale and high-efficiency requirements, such as being time-consuming, labor-intensive, and prone to human error (such as subjective judgment and visual fatigue). To address these issues, this study proposes a rapid detection method suitable for airborne edge devices and large-scale dense soybean seedling field images. For the dense small target images captured by the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), the YOLOv5s model is used as the improvement benchmark in the technical solution. GhostNetV2 is selected as the backbone feature extraction network. In the feature fusion stage, an attention mechanism—Efficient Channel Attention (ECA)—and a Bidirectional Feature Pyramid Network (BiFPN) have been introduced to ensure the model prioritizes the regions of interest. Addressing the challenge of small-scale soybean seedlings in UAV images, the model’s input size is set to 1280 × 1280 pixels. Simultaneously, Performance-aware Approximation of Global Channel Pruning for Multitask CNNs (PAGCP) pruning technology is employed to meet the requirements of mobile or embedded devices. The experimental results show that the identification accuracy of the improved YOLOv5s model reached 92.1%. Compared with the baseline model, its model size and total parameters were reduced by 76.65% and 79.55%, respectively. Beyond these quantitative evaluations, this study also conducted field experiments to verify the detection performance of the improved model in various scenarios. By introducing innovative model structures and technologies, the study aims to effectively detect dense small target features in UAV images and provide a feasible solution for assessing the number of soybean seedlings. In the future, this detection method can also be extended to similar crops.

In recent years, nanobodies have played an increasingly crucial role in virus neutralization, ELISA detection, and medical imaging. This study aimed to explore a universal expression strategy in Pichia pastoris using three nanobodies, denoted Va, Vb, and Vc, as model proteins. Initially, plasmids pLD-AOXα and pLD-AOX were engineered to minimize the risk of antibiotic resistance gene drift. Optimization of promoters and signal peptides resulted in a 1.38-fold and 1.89-fold increase in Va production. Further optimization of gene dosage led to an additional 1.39-fold enhancement in Va yield. Subsequently, 25 molecular chaperones were co-expressed with Va under the control of the wild-type AOX1 promoter, with HAC1 further increasing Va yield by 1.5-fold. By fine-tuning the promoter strength for HAC1, Va production was increased by 2.41-fold under the control of the 55p promoter. Finally, through high-density fermentation, the Va yield reached 2.13 g/L, representing a 49.8-fold increase compared to the initial strain 1-AOXα-Va in shake-flask culture. Integration of pLD-55p-HAC1 into the GS115 genome resulted in the H55 host, and the transformation of multicopy plasmids into this host led to a 1.98-fold increase in Vb yield and a 2.34-fold increase in Vc yield, respectively. The engineering of antibiotic-free parental plasmids, modification of expression components, gene dosage optimization, and the H55 host are regarded as a composite strategy which will pave the way for efficient expression of nanobodies in the future.

In petroleum engineering, accurately predicting particle settling velocity during various stages of a well’s life cycle is vital. This study focuses on settling velocities of both spherical and non-spherical particles in Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids. Utilizing a dataset of 931 experimental observations, an artificial neural network (ANN) model with a 7-42-1 architecture is developed (one input layer, one hidden layer with 42 neurons, and one output layer). This model effectively incorporates particle settling orientation and the inclusion of the settling area ratio, enhancing its predictive accuracy. Achieving an average absolute relative error (AARE) of 8.51%, the ANN model surpasses traditional empirical correlations for settling velocities in both Newtonian and power-law fluids. Key influencing factors, such as the consistency index and particle equivalent diameter, were identified. This approach in ANN model construction and data analysis represents a significant advancement in understanding particle dynamics.

The differences between the two global warming targets of the Paris Agreement, 1.5 °C and 2 °C above pre-industrial levels, have drawn much attention from the scientific community. However, there is a remaining gap to distinguish regional climate responses in these two most typical pathways, i.e., transient and stabilization simulations, toward specific warming levels. In this study, we discern the East Asia summer monsoon (EASM) responses between these two types of simulations at low-warming targets, based on the fully coupled community Earth system model (CESM). The two types of responses display a similar increase pattern in the EASM precipitation. However, the quantitative differences between these two types of responses are as large as those between the 1.5 °C and 2 °C warming scenarios. The moist budget analysis reveals that the EASM precipitation differences are mainly caused by the thermodynamic, dynamic, and transient eddy effects. Specifically, the thermodynamic effect contributes to the precipitation increment in the coastal area of East Asia in both types of responses, with the enhanced low-level specific humidity. The dynamic contribution shows tripolar and bipolar patterns in East Asia in the transient and stabilization responses, respectively. Remarkably, the transient eddy effect contribution emerges only in the stabilization responses. Further, we reveal the dominant role of the East Asian subtropical jet (EASJ) in determining the contributions from dynamic and transient eddy effects. The changes in the EASJ’s position and intensity are greatly regulated by the temperature change patterns at the mid-high levels in response to different greenhouse gas emission pathways. Our study highlights the differences between transient and stabilization climate states on a regional scale.

In view of the serious side effects of chlortetracycline (CTC) on the human body, it is particularly important to develop rapid, sensitive, and selective technologies for the detection of CTC in food. In this work, a molecularly imprinted electrochemical sensor with [Fe(CN)6]3−/4− as signal probe was proposed for the highly sensitive and selective detection of CTC. For this purpose, TiO2, which acts as an interlayer scaffold, was uniformly grown on the surface of Ti3C2Tx sheets through a simple two-step calcination process using Ti3C2Tx as the precursor to effectively avoid the stacking of Ti3C2Tx layers due to hydrogen bonding and van der Waals forces. This endowed TiO2@Ti3C2Tx with large specific surface, abundant functional sites, and rapid mass transfer. Then, polypyrrole molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) with outstanding electrical conductivity were modified on the surface of TiO2@Ti3C2Tx via simple electro-polymerization, where the pyrrole was employed as a polymeric monomer and the CTC provided a source of template molecules. This will not only provide specific recognition sites for CTC, but also facilitate electron transport on the electrode surface. The synergistic effects between TiO2@Ti3C2Tx and polypyrrole MIPs afforded the TiO2@Ti3C2Tx/MIP-based electrochemical sensor excellent detection properties toward CTC, including ultra-low limits of detection (LOD) (0.027 nM), a wide linear range (0.06–1000 nM), and outstanding stability, reproducibility, selectivity, and feasibility in real samples. The results indicate that this strategy is feasible and will broaden the horizon for highly sensitive and selective detection of CTC.

Apo pickle is a fermented food with a long edible history in the Jiangnan region of China. Traditionally, plastic bottles are used as Apo pickle’s fermentation containers, and artificial bottling costs are high. The goal of this study is to compare the fermentation effects of Apo pickle fermented under low pressure in a vacuum bag (VBA) and Apo pickle fermented under normal pressure in plastic bottles (TBA) to determine the feasibility of fermenting Apo pickle in a vacuum bag rather than a plastic bottle, thereby lowering production costs. At the same time, a gas-sensitive colorimetric sensor array (CSA) was developed to distinguish different fermentation stages of Apo pickle. The results revealed that the main genera in the initial and final phases of Apo pickle fermentation were Weissella and Lactobacillus, unaffected by fermentation containers. At the same fermentation time, the abundance of Lactobacillus and the content of flavor substances in VBA were higher, and the fermentation speed of VBA was faster at 0–15 d, so a vacuum bag could be used instead of a plastic bottle. The CSA could discriminate between different fermentation procedures of Apo pickles with an accuracy rate of 93.8%. Its principle is similar to that of an electronic nose. It has the advantages of convenience, rapidity, and no need for professional equipment, so it can be used as a new method to judge the fermentation degree of apo pickle.

As one of the most crucial topics in the recommendation system field, point-of-interest (POI) recommendation aims to recommending potential interesting POIs to users. Recently, graph neural networks have been successfully used to model interaction and spatio-temporal information in POI recommendations, but the data sparsity of POI recommendations affects the training of GNNs. Although some existing GNN-based POI recommendation approaches try to use social relationships or user attributes to alleviate the data sparsity problem, such auxiliary information is not always available for privacy reasons. Self-supervised learning provides a new idea to alleviate the data sparsity problem, but most existing self-supervised recommendation methods are designed for bi-partite graphs or social graphs, and cannot be directly used in the spatio-temporal graph of POI recommendations. In this paper, we propose a new method named SSTGL to combine self-supervised learning and GNN-based POI recommendation for the first time. SSTGL is empowered with spatio-temporal-aware strategies in the data augmentation and pre-text task stages, respectively, so that it can provide high-quality supervision information by incorporating spatio-temporal prior knowledge. By combining self-supervised learning objective with recommendation objectives, SSTGL can improve the performance of GNN-based POI recommendations. Extensive experiments on three POI recommendation datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of SSTGL, which performed better than existing mainstream methods.

Mercuric ion (Hg2+) in aqueous media is extremely toxic to the environment and organisms. Therefore, the ultra-trace electrochemical determination of Hg2+ in the environment is of critical importance. In this work, a new electrochemical Hg2+ sensing platform based on porous activated carbon (BC/Cu2O) modified with cuprous oxide was developed using a simple impregnation pyrolysis method. Differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) was used to investigate the sensing capability of the BC/Cu2O electrode towards Hg2+. Due to the excellent conductivity and large specific surface area of BC, and the excellent catalytic activity of Cu2O nanoparticles, the prepared BC/Cu2O electrode exhibited excellent electrochemical activity. The high sensitivity of the proposed system resulted in a low detection limit of 0.3 ng·L−1 and a wide linear response in the ranges from 1.0 ng·L−1 to 1.0 mg·L−1. In addition, this sensor was found to have good accuracy, acceptable precision, and reproducibility. All of these results show that the BC/Cu2O composite is a promising material for Hg2+ electrochemical detection.

Global changes and human activities have significantly altered water cycle processes and water resource patterns in inland river basins in arid zones. New tools are needed to conduct more comprehensive and scientific assessments of basin water cycle processes and water resource patterns. Based on GRACE satellite and Landsat data, this study investigated terrestrial water storage changes and surface water area in the Shiyang River Drainage Basin from 2002 to 2021. It explored the effects of climate change and water conservancy construction on terrestrial water storage changes in the basin. The results of the study show that, although the surface water quantity in the Shiyang River basin has increased in the past 20 years, the overall decreasing trend of terrestrial water storage in the basin of the Shiyang River has an interannual decreasing rate of 0.01 cm/a. The decreasing trend of water storage in the midstream and downstream areas is more prominent. The change in precipitation controls the change in water storage in the Shiyang River Drainage Basin. Artificial water transfer has changed the spatial distribution of water resources in the basin of the Shiyang River. However, it still has not completely reversed the trend of decreasing water storage in the middle and lower reaches of the Shiyang River.

Using mechanical drilling to obtain energy resources stored in deep and hard rock layers is becoming increasingly challenging. Therefore, laser irradiation has emerged as a new and promising drilling method. In this study, the effects of immersion conditions on rock-breaking by laser irradiation on the temperature, hole size, rock-breaking efficiency, and macro-fracture after laser irradiation were investigated. Furthermore, the mineral changes and thermogravimetric analysis of rocks were studied. As indicated by the results, the temperature area over 100 °C increases with the increase of irradiation time, and the temperature range of between 2.27 cm2 and 13.20 cm2 varies with the change of laser power at between 90 W and 135 W. The hole-diameter value of the soaked sample was smaller than that of the dried sample. In addition, the hole depth of the soaked sample reduced by 15% at a power of 90 W and 45% at a power of 135 W, compared with that of the dried sample. The value of the modified specific energy of the soaked sample increased, which was particularly noticeable at low power. The soaked sample had a larger effect on the rate of perforation at high power and a smaller effect at low power. The cracks on the surface of the rock samples became larger after being placed for one month. Fracture length increased from 0.61 to 5.09 mm for dried samples and from 2.24 to 8.7 mm for soaked samples at a laser power of 90 W. Fracture length increased from 6.30 to 9.85 mm for dried samples and from 9.04 to 11.38 mm for soaked samples at a laser power of 135 W. The soaked sample began to show differences when heated at 100 °C, which was caused by the evaporation of some free water molecules in the rock. The main weight loss temperatures of the samples occurred in the range of 640 °C to 900 °C.

The deregulation in the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway is associated with many human cancers, particularly colorectal cancer (CRC) and, therefore, represents a promising target for drug development. We have screened over 300 semisynthetic and natural compounds using a Wnt reporter assay and identified a family of novel chalcone derivatives (CXs) that inhibited Wnt signaling and CRC cell proliferation. Among them, we selected CX258 for further in vitro and in vivo study to investigate the molecular mechanisms. We found that CX258 significantly inhibited β-catenin expression and nuclear translocation, inducing cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase in CRC cells. Additionally, CX258 reduced the expression of DNA Topoisomerase II alpha (TOP2A) in CRC cells. Moreover, knocking down TOP2A by siRNAs inhibited the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, a finding suggesting that CX258 inhibited Wnt/β-catenin signaling and CRC cell proliferation at least partially by modulating TOP2A. Further studies showed that CDK1 that interacts with TOP2A was significantly reduced after TOP2A knockdown. We demonstrated that CX258 significantly inhibited DLD-1 CRC cell xenografts in SCID mice. In summary, we identified CX258 as a promising candidate for colorectal cancer treatment by targeting the TOP2A/Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.

Flower tea is widely loved as a drink, especially for the beautiful and rich flowers of the orchid family, and the drying method for different flowers is also unique. GC-MS is widely used to study volatile substances to determine the quality of flower teas. The findings show that the freeze-drying method can retain the original aroma and flavor of Bletilla striata has the highest sensory evaluation score, with the key flavor substances ethyl caproate and N-heptanal containing 1.14% and 6.28%, respectively, and their ROAV values reaching 54.46 and 100.00. Additionally, the freeze-drying method can well retain flavonoids, polysaccharides, and phenolic components, while providing better antioxidant and antibacterial properties. The stove-drying method would make Bletilla striata slightly burnt and less flavorful and efficacious than freeze-drying; the air-drying method is difficult to retain the special odor and fragrance of Bletilla striata flowers and has the lowest sensory evaluation score, with the presence of volatile components with irritating and unpleasant odors such as pyrazine and 2-pentylfuran, while not showing better efficacy. In addition, steam fixation would destroy the morphology and flavor of Bletilla striata, lose polysaccharide and phenolic components, and reduce the efficacy of Bletilla striata scented tea, but could retain the flavonoid components well. In summary, direct freeze-drying without steam fixation is the best process for drying Bletilla striata scented tea, stove-drying without steam fixation is more economical and convenient in actual production and application, steam fixation and air-drying are not suitable as drying processes for Bletilla striata scented tea. This study analyzed the quality of Bletilla striata scented tea under different drying methods, promoted the further processing of Bletilla striata scented tea, and provided a reference for the comprehensive utilization of Bletilla striata scented tea.

Mesoporous bioactive glass is a promising biomaterial for bone tissue engineering due to its good biocompatibility and bioactivity. In this work, we synthesized a hierarchically porous bioactive glass (HPBG) using polyelectrolyte-surfactant mesomorphous complex as template. Through the interaction with silicate oligomers, calcium and phosphorus sources were successfully introduced into the synthesis of hierarchically porous silica, and HPBG with ordered mesoporous and nanoporous structures was obtained. The morphology, pore structure and particle size of HPBG can be controlled by adding block copolymer as co-template or adjusting the synthesis parameters. The ability to induce hydroxyapatite deposition in simulated body fluids (SBF) demonstrated the good in vitro bioactivity of HPBG. Overall, this work provides a general method for the synthesis of hierarchically porous bioactive glasses.

Large gas reserves have been found in the Permian platform margin of the Kaijiang-Liangping area of the Sichuan Basin in SW China. They are assumed to be a widely developed reef–shoal reservoir. However, the tight matrix reservoir cannot support high gas production using conventional development technology at deep subsurface. In this contribution, we analyze the fractured reservoirs along the strike-slip fault zones using the compiled data of cores, well logging, and production data, and provide a seismic description. It was shown that the fractures and their dissolution developed along the strike-slip fault zones. The porosity and permeability of the fractured reservoir could increase by more than one and 1–2 orders of magnitude, respectively. The seismic anisotropic energy found in the steerable pyramid process suggests that fractured reservoirs have a strong heterogeneity, with a localized fault damage zone. This fracturing has both positive and negative effects, showing varied reservoir parameters in the fault damage zone. The development pattern should adopt a non-uniform well pattern, in order to target the localized “sweet spot” of the fractures in these deep tight matrix reservoirs.

The cable system is an important bearing element of a bridge with stay cables or slings and a matter of major concern in the safety of the bridge structure. Bridge cables are vulnerable to corrosion induced by leakage and soaking during their service life. To solve this problem, and based on the idea of proactive control by means of the impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) of bridge cables, this study designs and develops an ICCP system device for bridge cable protection. In this study, an accelerated corrosion test was conducted to test the ICCP system of steel wires inside the cables and the cables under acid rain conditions. The corrosion protection behavior of ICCP was analyzed to reveal the corrosion protection mechanism of bridge cable ICCP. The results show that in the cable ICCP system, the impressed current generated by a more negative voltage may improve the efficiency of corrosion protection, but an excessively negative voltage may cause hydrogen embrittlement of the cable steel wire due to overprotection. The rational range of −1.13 V to −1.15 V was set as the result of the overall consideration. Within this range, the cable is subject to the joint protection of ICCP and sacrificial anode cathodic protection (SACP). Corrosive products can delay the development of cable corrosion to a certain degree; the SACP protection efficiency of the galvanized coat reduces gradually with corrosion development; and cable ICCP protection efficiency increases gradually. The ICCP for cable corrosion protection is transformed from joint protection using both a sacrificial anode and impressed current into protection, mainly using an impressed current.

In order to overcome the shortcomings of the traditional magnetic absolute linear displacement sensors in which cables affect the flexibility and measurement range in linear motor transmission systems, this paper proposes a novel cable-free moving magnetic grid-type long-range absolute displacement sensor. The sensor consists of a magnetic grid and a signal acquisition board. The magnetic grid is a moving component that contains two rows of permanent magnet arrays, one for relative displacement measurement and the other for the displacement interval code. The signal acquisition board is a fixed component that uses n groups of two-row Hall sensor arrays for continuous absolute displacement measurement. The principle of the sensor using the 2D magnetic field signal for the relative displacement measurement is analyzed, and a measurement method based on Hall sensor arrays for coding and absolute displacement detection over n cycles is proposed. Finally, a sensor prototype is fabricated and the experiments are performed. The experimental results show that the measurement resolution of the sensor is 5 μm, and the measurement accuracy is ±14.8 μm within the measurement range of 0–98.3 mm. The proposed sensor can realize continuous absolute displacement measurement over multiple cycles without cable binding.

Zeolite Y, as a solid acid catalyst with excellent performance, is a landmark in petroleum refining and chemical industry production–especially in catalytic cracking reactions. Improving the SAR of Y zeolite, enriching its pore structure, and modifying it with heteroatoms can realize the multifunctional catalysis of Y zeolite, improve the application value of it, and then meet the demands of petroleum refining. In this review, the synthesis of Y zeolites with high SAR, multistage pores, and heteroatom modification is summarized.

The quantitative level of steroid hormones (SHs) in some body fluids have been accepted for clinical diagnosis, whereas their distribution in aqueous humor (AH) is unknown yet. Herein, a profiling study was conducted with a total of 171 AH and 107 plasma samples using liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry (LC MS/MS). For the first time, six kinds of SHs in AH were quantitatively estimated, and their abundances were ranked at cortisol (F), corticosterone (COR), androstenedione (A2), and 11-deoxycortisol (11DOC). The corresponding abundance of all SHs in AH was significantly lower than those in plasma, while there was a lack of a proportional relationship with the abundance of plasma SHs. Dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate, the most abundant plasma SH, was undetectable in AH, implying that the blood–aqueous barrier might specifically block its transferral. Axial myopia generally results from many factors throughout the entire eye from tissues and molecules; furthermore, the correlation of AH SHs and axial myopia was assessed to look for their indication in such myopia. The panel with five kinds of AH SHs (F, COR, CORT, ALD and A2) was functional as a discriminator for axial myopia and control. The abundance of SHs, therefore, has a specific distribution in AH and can potentially contribute to axial myopia.

The augmentation of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) by Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites is proposed as an effective method to improve the precision and shorten the convergence time of Precise Point Positioning (PPP). Serving as navigation satellites in the future, LEO satellites need to be provided with their high-accuracy orbits in real-time. This would potentially enable the high-accuracy real-time LEO satellite clock determination, and eventually facilitate the high-accuracy ground-based positioning. Studies have been performed to achieve such real-time orbits using a Kalman filter in both the kinematic and reduced-dynamic modes. Batch Least-Squares (BLS) adjustment delivers more stable orbits in near-real-time, as it performs better phase screening. However, it suffers from longer delays compared to the Kalman filter. With the LEO satellite orbit prediction strategies improved over time, this latency can be bridged by short-term orbit prediction. In this study, using real-time GNSS satellite products, the real-time LEO satellite orbits are obtained based on the batch least-squares adjustment and short-term prediction. LEO ephemeris parameters are generated within specific prediction time windows. Using real data from the 500 km GRACE C satellite and 810 km Sentinel-3B satellite, the near-real-time BLS Precise Orbit Determination (POD) results exhibit good accuracy with an Orbital User Range Error (OURE) of 2–4 cm using different real-time GNSS products. A range of delays of the BLS POD processes are assumed, based on tests performed on different processing machines, leading to various prediction windows, from 3–8 min to 12–17 min that correspond to the real-time usage. The orbital prediction errors are shown to be highly correlated with the orbital height and the prediction time. The computational efficiency thus becomes essential to reduce the prediction errors for a certain LEO satellite. For advanced processing units leading to a prediction window shorter or equal to 6–11 min, one can expect a total real-time orbital error budget of 3–5 cm, provided that an appropriate prediction strategy is applied and high-quality GNSS products are used. For a given fitting interval, the ephemeris fitting errors are generally related to the number of ephemeris parameters and the orbital height. Compared with the prediction errors, the ephemeris fitting errors do not play a significant role in the total error budget when using 22 ephemeris parameters.

Apo pickle is a traditional Chinese fermented vegetable. However, the traditional fermentation process of Apo pickle is slow, easy to ruin, and cannot be judged with regard to time. To improve fermentation, LP-165 (L. Plantarum), which has a high salt tolerance, acidification, and growth capacity, was chosen as the starter culture. Meanwhile, a colorimetric sensor array (CSA) sensitive to pickle volatile compounds was developed to differentiate Apo pickles at varying degrees of fermentation. The color components were extracted from each dye in the color change profiles and were analyzed using principal component analysis (PCA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA). The fermentation process of the Apo pickle was classified into four phases by LDA. The accuracy of backward substitution verification was 99% and the accuracy of cross validation was 92.7%. Furthermore, the partial least squares regression (PLSR) showed that data from the CSA were correlated with pH total acid, lactic acid, and volatile acids of the Apo pickle. These results illustrate that the CSA reacts quickly to inoculated Apo pickle and could be used to detect fermentation.

Twisting intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) is a common nonradiative relaxation pathway for a molecule with a flexible substituent, effectively reducing the fluorescence quantum yield (FQY) by swift twisting motions. In this work, we investigate coumarin 481 (C481) that contains a diethylamino group in solution by femtosecond transient absorption (fs-TA), femtosecond stimulated Raman spectroscopy (FSRS), and theoretical calculations, aided by coumarin 153 with conformational locking of the alkyl arms as a control sample. In different solvents with decreasing polarity, the transition energy barrier between the fluorescent state and TICT state increases, leading to an increase of the FQY. Correlating the fluorescence decay time constant with solvent polarity and viscosity parameters, the multivariable linear regression analysis indicates that the chromophore’s nonradiative relaxation pathway is affected by both hydrogen (H)-bond donating and accepting capabilities as well as dipolarity of the solvent. Results from the ground- and excited-state FSRS shed important light on structural dynamics of C481 undergoing prompt light-induced intramolecular charge transfer from the diethylamino group toward –C=O and –CF3 groups, while the excited-state C=O stretch marker band tracks initial solvation and vibrational cooling dynamics in aprotic and protic solvents (regardless of polarity) as well as H-bonding dynamics in the fluorescent state for C481 in high-polarity protic solvents like methanol. The uncovered mechanistic insights into the molecular origin for the fluorogenicity of C481 as an environment-polarity sensor substantiate the generality of ultrafast TICT state formation of flexible molecules in solution, and the site-dependent substituent(s) as an effective route to modulate the fluorescence properties for such compact, engineerable, and versatile chemosensors.

Addressing the shortcomings of existing low-frequency oscillation research on electrified railways, which has mainly focused on single-type trains and lacks the accurate modeling of traction inverter systems, in this paper we modeled and analyzed low-frequency oscillations in an electrified railway passenger and freight mixed-operation vehicle–grid system. First, an equivalent model of the DC side of the traction inverter was established, with the inverter system being equivalent to the parallel connection of the load resistance and the current source, and the specific mathematical expression was determined and verified by impedance measurement. Secondly, based on the equivalent model of the DC side of the traction inverter, a small signal model of the vehicle–grid system under the mixed operating conditions of CRH5 and HXD2B considering the inverter system was established. The generalized Nyqusit criterion was used to study the low-frequency oscillation characteristics under mixed transportation conditions. The accuracy of the established model and the correctness of the theoretical analysis were verified based on Matlab/Simulink. Finally, using the dominant pole theory to analyze the low-frequency stability conditions, the relationship between the number of mixed trains and the minimum short-circuit ratio was obtained, and the simulation verification was carried out.

Pogostemon cablin (Lamiaceae) is a component of traditional medicines in Southern China. The identification of P. cablin pathogens is essential for the production and development of this industry. During 2019–2020, a leaf spot on P. cablin was observed in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province. The pathogen of the leaf spot was isolated and identified using morphological and phylogenetic methods. Phylogenetic analysis was performed using the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (gapdh), RNA polymerase II (rpb2), translation extension factor 1-alpha (tef1), and Alternaria major allergen 1 (Alt-a1) genes. Based on phylogenetic and morphological studies, this was confirmed to be a novel species of Alternaria pogostemonis, with description and illustrations presented. The pathogenicity test of A. pogostemon was verified by Koch’s postulates as causing leaf spot disease. This is the first report of leaf spot disease in P. cablin caused by the Alternaria species. This study contributes to the knowledge of P. cablin leaf spot diseases.

The initiation and propagation behavior of fractures induced by supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) jet fracturing is significant to evaluate stimulated reservoir volume (SRV). However, the propagation characteristics of fractures induced by SC-CO2 jet in layered rocks with layers having different mechanical properties have not yet been studied. In this study, four groups of artificial sandstones were used to conduct SC-CO2 jet fracturing experiments and investigate the fracture initiation and propagation behavior in hard and soft layered rocks. A strain collection device was employed to monitor the strain changes of the specimens during the experiments, and after the experiments, a three-dimensional scanner was used to obtain the morphologies of the main fractures. Experimental results showed that the SC-CO2 jet fracturing can be divided into the pressurization of the perforation pressure stage and fracture propagation stage, and the fractures initiation and propagation is intermittent. Three types of main fractures have been found—longitudinal fracture, transverse fracture and oblique fracture—and the formation mechanism of the main fractures has been elaborated. The rock strength can affect the number and complexity of fractures created and the fracturing rate, and the Young’s modulus of rock has an effect on fracture propagation length. The fractures mainly develop near the perforation and are difficult to propagate to another layer with different mechanical properties. The result in our study is conducive to the application of SC-CO2 jet fracturing technology in the field.

In this work, β-cyclodextrin (β-CD)/mesoporous carbon (CMK-8) nanocomposite was synthesized and used as an electrochemical sensing platform for highly sensitive and selective detection of Cu2+. The morphology and structure of β-CD/CMK-8 were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). In addition, the dates from electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and Cyclic voltammetry (CV) demonstrated that the β-CD/CMK-8 possessed a fast electronic transfer rate and large effective surface area. Besides this, the β-CD/CMK-8 composite displayed high enrichment ability toward Cu2+. As a result of these impressive features, the β-CD/CMK-8 modified electrode provided a wide linear response ranging from 0.1 ng·L−1 to 1.0 mg·L−1 with a low detection limit of 0.3 ng·L−1. Furthermore, the repeatability, reproducibility and selectivity of β-CD/CMK-8 towards Cu2+ were commendable. The sensor could be used to detect Cu2+ in real samples. All in all, this work proposes a simple and sensitive method for Cu2+ detection, which provides a reference for the subsequent detection of HMIs.

The Yellow River Basin is essential to China’s economic and social development and ecological security. In order to assess the temporal and spatial distribution of cloud water in the Yellow River Basin, we analyzed the distribution characteristics of water vapor content and cloud water content using ERA5 monthly averaged data from 1980 to 2019. The results showed that the high-value area of the annual average atmospheric water vapor content distribution was concentrated above the North China Plain in the eastern part of the basin, and the value was mostly between 21 and 24 mm. The low-value areas were mainly centered above the high mountain areas in the western part of the basin, and the value mostly fell between 3 and 6 mm. The seasonal distribution characteristics of the annual average water vapor content were relatively consistent with the annual average distribution characteristics. The high-value cloud ice water content area was in the northeastern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (4.5 g·m−2), while the low-value area appeared on the Loess Plateau (2 g·m−2). The high-value area of cloud liquid water content was on the north side of the West Qinling Mountains (12 g·m−2). The low-value area appeared on the Loess Plateau and the northern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (3 g·m−2). The cloud water content was higher in the eastern region than in the western region in the overall spatial distribution, and the content of cloud liquid water was higher than that of cloud ice water. The average annual atmospheric water vapor content was increasing, and the annual average content of cloud ice water and cloud liquid water was declining. The change in the total amount and spatial distribution of cloud water was not obvious in the Yellow River Basin.

Sensitive detection and efficient removal of heavy metal ions with high toxicity and mobility are of great importance for environmental monitoring and control. Although several kinds of functional materials have been reported for this purpose, their preparation processes are complicated. Herein, nitrogen self-doped activated porous biochar (NAC) was synthesized in a facile process via an activation–carbonization strategy from cicada shell rich in chitin, and subsequently employed as an effective functional material for the simultaneous determination and removal of Cu2+ from aqueous media. With its unique porous structure and abundant oxygen-containing functional groups, along with the presence of heteroatoms, NAC exhibits high sensitivity for the electrochemical sensing of Cu2+ in concentrations ranging from 0.001 to 1000 μg·L−1, with a low detection limit of 0.3 ng·L−1. Additionally, NAC presents an excellent removal efficiency of over 78%. The maximum adsorption capacity is estimated at 110.4 mg/g. These excellent performances demonstrate that NAC could serve as an efficient platform for the detection and removal of Cu2+ in real environmental areas.

Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellite data are widely used in drought studies. In this study, we quantified drought severity based on land terrestrial water storage (TWS) changes in GRACE data. We used the water storage deficit (WSD) and water storage deficit index (WSDI) to identify the drought events and evaluate the drought severity. The WSDI calculated by GRACE provides an effective assessment method when assessing the extent of drought over large areas under a lack of site data. The results show a total of 22 drought events in the central Asian dry zone during the study period. During spring and autumn, the droughts among these incidents occurred more frequently and severely. The longest and most severe drought occurred near the Caspian Sea. In the arid area of central Asia, the north of the region tended to be moist (the WSDI value was 0.04 year−1), and the south, east, and Caspian Sea area tended to be drier (the WSDI values were −0.07 year−1 in the south, −0.11 year−1 in the east, and −0.19 year−1 in the Caspian Sea). These study results can provide a key scientific basis for agricultural development, food security, and climate change response in the Asian arid zone.

Diaporthe species are endophytes, pathogens, and saprobes with a wide host range worldwide. However, little is known about endophytic Diaporthe species associated with Morinda officinalis. In the present study, 48 endophytic Diaporthe isolates were obtained from cultivated M. officinalis in Deqing, Guangdong Province, China. The nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS), partial sequences of translation elongation factor 1-α (tef1-α), partial calmodulin (cal), histone H3 (his), and Beta-tubulin (β-tubulin) gene regions were sequenced and employed to construct phylogenetic trees. Based on morphology and combined multigene phylogeny, 12 Diaporthe species were identified, including five new species of Diaporthe longiconidialis, D. megabiguttulata, D. morindendophytica, D. morindae, and D. zhaoqingensis. This is the first report of Diaporthe chongqingensis, D. guangxiensis, D. heliconiae, D. siamensis, D. unshiuensis, and D. xishuangbanica on M. officinalis. This study provides the first intensive study of endophytic Diaporthe species on M. officinalis in China. These results will improve the current knowledge of Diaporthe species associated with this traditional medicinal plant. Furthermore, results from this study will help to understand the potential pathogens and biocontrol agents from M. officinalis and to develop a disease management platform.

Staphylococcus aureus is a very common Gram-positive bacterium, and S. aureus infections play an extremely important role in a variety of diseases. This paper describes the types of virulence factors involved, the inflammatory cells activated, the process of host cell death, and the associated diseases caused by S. aureus. S. aureus can secrete a variety of enterotoxins and other toxins to trigger inflammatory responses and activate inflammatory cells, such as keratinocytes, helper T cells, innate lymphoid cells, macrophages, dendritic cells, mast cells, neutrophils, eosinophils, and basophils. Activated inflammatory cells can express various cytokines and induce an inflammatory response. S. aureus can also induce host cell death through pyroptosis, apoptosis, necroptosis, autophagy, etc. This article discusses S. aureus and MRSA (methicillin-resistant S. aureus) in atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, pulmonary cystic fibrosis, allergic asthma, food poisoning, sarcoidosis, multiple sclerosis, and osteomyelitis. Summarizing the pathogenic mechanism of Staphylococcus aureus provides a basis for the targeted treatment of Staphylococcus aureus infection.

Marine heatwaves (MHWs) are long-lasting extreme oceanic warming events that can cause devastating effects on warm-water corals and associated ecosystems. The linear trend and interannual variability of MHWs over the Bay of Bengal (BOB) during 1982–2020 are investigated by a high-resolution daily sea surface temperature (SST) dataset. In regions where warm-water coral reefs are concentrated, annual MHW days and frequency significantly increase during 1982–2020, at rates exceeding that of the global mean. The coldest boreal winter season witnesses significant and steady increase trends in MHW days and frequency. In contrast, the trend is insignificant in the climatological warmest season (March to June) south of 15° N in the BOB, mainly due to large interannual variability. El Niño and Southern Oscillation (ENSO) dominates the interannual variability of BOB MHWs, which are highly consistent with the evolution of the mean SST. The negative phase of North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) also modulates the occurrences of MHWs, especially over the northeastern BOB. The two climate modes synergistically explain about 50~70% of the interannual variances in the BOB’s MHWs. Correlation analysis reveals that south of 15° N in the BOB, the effect of El Niño on MHWs is evident from the boreal autumn of its developing phase to the boreal summer of its decaying phase, along with limited influence from NAO. However, in the northeast of the BOB, the effect of El Niño merely emerges from April to August of its decaying stage. In comparison, boreal winter-to-spring NAO exerts a strong control over March-to-June MHWs in the northeastern BOB. The results suggest that various climate modes may jointly or separately influence MHWs at certain seasons and locations, which is important for the seasonal prediction of MHWs. Indeed, when combining the Niño3.4 mature winter index and boreal winter-to-spring NAO index to build a regression model, it is more effective in reproducing the BOB’s MHW frequency compared to the Niño3.4 index alone.

Air pollution caused by particulate matter and toxic gases is violating individual’s health and safety. Nanofibrous membrane, being a reliable filter medium for particulate matter, has been extensively studied and applied in the field of air purification. Among the different fabrication approaches of nanofibrous membrane, electrospinning is considered as the most favorable and effective due to its advantages of controllable process, high production efficiency, and low cost. The electrospun membranes, made of different materials and unique structures, exhibit good PM2.5 filtration performance and multi-functions, and are used as masks and filters against PM2.5. This review presents a brief overview of electrospinning techniques, different structures of electrospun nanofibrous membranes, unique characteristics and functions of the fabricated membranes, and summarization of the outdoor and indoor applications in PM filtration.

With the exponential growth of mobile devices and the emergence of computationally intensive and delay-sensitive tasks, the enormous demand for data and computing resources has become a big challenge. Fortunately, the combination of mobile edge computing (MEC) and ultra-dense network (UDN) is considered to be an effective way to solve these challenges. Due to the highly dynamic mobility of mobile devices and the randomness of the work requests, the load imbalance between MEC servers will affect the performance of the entire network. In this paper, the software defined network (SDN) is applied to the task allocation in the MEC scenario of UDN, which is based on routing of corresponding information between MEC servers. Secondly, a new load balancing algorithm based on load estimation by user load prediction is proposed to solve the NP-hard problem in task offloading. Furthermore, a genetic algorithm (GA) is used to prove the effectiveness and rapidity of the algorithm. At present, if the load balancing algorithm only depends on the actual load of each MEC, it usually leads to ping-pong effect. It is worth mentioning that our method can effectively reduce the impact of ping-pong effect. In addition, this paper also discusses the subtask offloading problem of divisible tasks and the corresponding solutions. At last, simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of our method in balancing load among MEC servers and its ability to optimize systematic stability.

In this paper, a new stable finite-difference (FD) method for solving elastodynamic equations is presented and applied on the Biot and Biot/squirt (BISQ) models. This method is based on the operator splitting theory and makes use of the characteristic boundary conditions to confirm the overall stability which is demonstrated with the energy method. Through the stability analysis, it is showed that the stability conditions are more generous than that of the traditional algorithms. It allows us to use the larger time step τ in the procedures for the elastic wave field solutions. This context also provides and compares the computational results from the stable Biot and unstable BISQ models. The comparisons show that this FD method can apply a new numerical technique to detect the stability of the seismic wave propagation theories. The rigorous theoretical stability analysis with the energy method is presented and the stable/unstable performance with the numerical solutions is also revealed. The truncation errors and the detailed stability conditions of the FD methods with different characteristic boundary conditions have also been evaluated. Several applications of the constructed FD methods are presented. When the stable FD methods to the elastic wave models are applied, an initial stability test can be established. Further work is still necessary to improve the accuracy of the method.

Supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) fracturing is a non-aqueous fracturing technology, which has attracted considerable attention on exploiting shale gas. In this study, shale specimens and artificial sandstone specimens were used to conduct SC-CO2 fracturing and water fracturing experiments to investigate the characteristics of SC-CO2 induced fractures. An acoustic emission (AE) monitoring device was employed to monitor the AE energy release rate during the experiment. The experiment results indicate that the breakdown pressure of SC-CO2 fracturing is lower than that of water fracturing under the same conditions, and the AE energy release rate of SC-CO2 fracturing is 1−2 orders of magnitude higher than that of water fracturing. In artificial sandstone, which is homogeneous, the main fracture mainly propagates along the directions perpendicular to the minimum principal stress, no matter if using SC-CO2 or water as the fracturing fluid, but in shale with weak structural planes, the propagation direction of the fracture is controlled by the combined effect of a weak structural plane and in-situ stress.

The increase in the number of space debris is a serious threat to the safe operation of in-orbit spacecraft. The propagation law of the impact signal in the stiffened panel of the spacecraft’s sealed bulkhead is very complicated, and there is less research on the impact source location in the high-stiffened panel. In this paper, an adaptive energy compensation threshold filtering (AECTF) method based on acoustic emission is proposed, which can realize large-scale, fast and accurate locating of the impact source on the stiffened panel with less resource consumption. The influence law of the stiffeners on the lamb wave is analyzed by finite element simulation, and the Lamb wave energy factor curve is obtained. The correctness of the simulation is verified by the locating experiment on the impact point. The results show that the proposed AECTF method has better adaptability and can correctly locate the impact points in complicated locations. By selecting the appropriate frequency band to filter the signal, the locating accuracy and stability can be improved. When the frequency band is 100−200 kHz, the locating result is optimal, the average absolute error is 7.0 mm, the average relative error is 0.86%, and the error standard deviation is 3.5 mm. This study will generate fresh insight into the impact location technology of high-stiffened panel and provide a reference for the in-orbit spacecraft health monitoring system.

Lycoris longituba, belonging to the Amaryllidaceae family, is a perennial bulb bearing flowers with diverse colors and fragrance. Selection of cultivars with excellent colored and scented flowers has always been the breeding aim for ornamental plants. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying color fading and aroma production during flower expansion in L. longituba remain unclear. Therefore, to systematically investigate these important biological phenomena, the tepals of L. longituba from different developmental stages were used to screen and analyze the metabolic components and relevant genes. Utilizing the Illumina platform, a total of 144,922 unigenes were obtained from the RNA-Seq libraries. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis indicated that the phenylpropanoid biosynthesis and flavonoid biosynthesis pathways might play important roles during color and aroma changes. Metabolomic analysis identified 29 volatile organic components (VOCs) from different developmental stages of L. longituba tepals, and orthogonal partial least-squares discriminate analysis (OPLS-DA) revealed that trans-β-ocimene—a terpene—was the most important aroma compound. Meanwhile, we found the content of anthocyanin was significantly reduced during the tepal color fading process. Then, we identified two dihydroflavonol-4-reductase (DFR) and three terpene synthase (TPS) genes, for which expression changes coincided with the production patterns of anthocyanins and trans-β-ocimene, respectively. Furthermore, a number of MYB and bHLH transcription factors (TFs) which might be involved in color- and aroma-formation were also identified in L. longituba tepal transcriptomes. Taken together, this is the first comprehensive report of the color and fragrance in tepals of L. longituba and these results could be helpful in understanding these characteristics and their regulation networks.

Zanthoxylum nitidum (Roxb.) DC (Rutaceae), called as “liangmianzhen„ in China, is well known for its anti-inflammation and analgesic effect. Alkaloids are its main active constituents. However, little has been known about the absorption of main alkaloids in vivo. In this study, an ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometry was employed for identification of absorbed alkaloids in rats after oral administration of Z. nitidum decoction. By analyzing the fragmentation patterns, a total of nineteen alkaloids were exactly or tentatively identified in rat plasma after treatment, of which magnoflorine, α-allocryptopine, and skimmianine are dominant. Moreover, a high performance liquid chromatography coupled mass spectrometry method was developed for simultaneous quantification of magnoflorine, α-allocryptopine, and skimmianine, and successfully applied to pharmacokinetic study in rats after oral administration of Z. nitidum decoction. The research would contribute to comprehensive understanding of the material basis and function mechanism of Z. nitidum decoction.
