Computer-aided diagnosis systems play a crucial role in the diagnosis and early detection of breast cancer. However, most current methods focus primarily on the dual-view analysis of a single breast, thereby neglecting the potentially valuable information between bilateral mammograms. In this paper, we propose a Four-View Correlation and Contrastive Joint Learning Network (FV-Net) for the classification of bilateral mammogram images. Specifically, FV-Net focuses on extracting and matching features across the four views of bilateral mammograms while maximizing both their similarities and dissimilarities. Through the Cross-Mammogram Dual-Pathway Attention Module, feature matching between bilateral mammogram views is achieved, capturing the consistency and complementary features across mammograms and effectively reducing feature misalignment. In the reconstituted feature maps derived from bilateral mammograms, the Bilateral-Mammogram Contrastive Joint Learning module performs associative contrastive learning on positive and negative sample pairs within each local region. This aims to maximize the correlation between similar local features and enhance the differentiation between dissimilar features across the bilateral mammogram representations. Our experimental results on a test set comprising 20% of the combined Mini-DDSM and Vindr-mamo datasets, as well as on the INbreast dataset, show that our model exhibits superior performance in breast cancer classification compared to competing methods.

Climate change and human disturbance are critical factors affecting the habitat distribution of wild animals, with implications for management strategies such as protecting migration corridors, habitat restoration, and species conservation. In the Hupingshan National Nature Reserve (NNR), Reeve’s muntjac (Muntiacus reevesi) is a key prey species for the South China tiger (Panthera tigris amoyensis), which is extinct in the wild and targeted for reintroduction by the Chinese government. Thus, understanding the habitat distribution and abundance of Reeve’s muntjac is essential to ensure the survival and sustainability of reintroduced tiger populations. Despite significant conservation efforts, the impacts of climate change and human disturbance on Reeve’s muntjac habitat distribution in Hupingshan NNR remain unclear, though these factors could necessitate adaptive tiger management strategies due to shifts in prey abundance. In this study, we employed an optimized MaxEnt model to assess current habitat distribution and identify key environmental variables influencing the habitat distribution of Reeve’s muntjac. Assuming non-climatic environmental factors will remain constant over the next century, we projected future habitat distribution under two shared socioeconomic pathways (SSP126 and SSP585) for the mid-century (2050s) and the late-century (2090s). Comparative analyses of current and projected habitat areas revealed potential impacts of climate change on this species. MaxEnt outputs classified habitat suitability into high, medium, and low levels. Results showed that climatic and human disturbance factors contributed 35.2% and 49.4% to habitat suitability, respectively. Under the SSP126 scenario, habitats with decreased suitability covered 0 km2 in the 2050s, expanding slightly to 4.2 km2 in the 2090s, while those with increased suitability spanned 491.1 km2 (2050s) and 463.2 km2 (2090s). Under the SSP585 scenario, habitats with decreased suitability covered 10.2 km2 in the 2050s and 431.8 km2 in the 2090s. Habitats with increased suitability were comparatively smaller under SSP585, covering 162.0 km2 (2050s) and 1.1 km2 (2090s). These findings suggest that while mid-century climate projections (SSP126 and SSP585) may support Reeve’s muntjac’s survival, habitat loss is projected by 2090s (SSP126). Thus, future climate change may lead to decreased habitat suitability and increased fragmentation, raising extinction risks for Reeves’s muntjac. Mitigating these effects could involve establishing migration corridors, minimizing human disturbances, and potentially supplementing prey populations with captive-bred prey. Such measures are essential to support the South China tiger reintroduction plan and help ensure that prey availability remains sufficient for sustaining reintroduced tiger populations.

Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most lethal cancers worldwide, and its early diagnosis is critical for improving patient survival rates. However, the extraction of key information from complex medical images and the attainment of high-precision classification present a significant challenge. In the field of signal processing, texture-rich images typically exhibit periodic patterns and structures, which are manifested as significant energy concentrations at specific frequencies in the frequency domain. Given the above considerations, this study is designed to explore the application of frequency domain analysis in BC histopathological classification. This study proposes the dual-branch adaptive frequency domain fusion network (AFFNet), designed to enable each branch to specialize in distinct frequency domain features of pathological images. Additionally, two different frequency domain approaches, namely Multi-Spectral Channel Attention (MSCA) and Fourier Filtering Enhancement Operator (FFEO), are employed to enhance the texture features of pathological images and minimize information loss. Moreover, the contributions of the two branches at different stages are dynamically adjusted by a frequency-domain-adaptive fusion strategy to accommodate the complexity and multi-scale features of pathological images. The experimental results, based on two public BC histopathological image datasets, corroborate the idea that AFFNet outperforms 10 state-of-the-art image classification methods, underscoring its effectiveness and superiority in this domain.

The accurate measurement of high-resolution solar spectral irradiance (SSI) and its variations at the top of the atmosphere is crucial for solar physics, the Earth’s climate, and the in-orbit calibration of optical satellites. However, existing space-based solar spectral irradiance instruments achieve high-precision SSI measurements at the cost of spectral resolution, which falls short of meeting the requirements for identifying fine solar spectral features. Therefore, this paper proposes a new method for reconstructing high-resolution solar spectral irradiance based on a residual channel attention network. This method considers the stability of SSI spectral features and employs residual channel attention blocks to enhance the expression ability of key features, achieving the high-accuracy reconstruction of spectral features. Additionally, to address the issue of excessively large output features from the residual channel attention blocks, a scaling coefficient adjustment network block is introduced to achieve the high-accuracy reconstruction of spectral absolute values. Finally, the proposed method is validated using the measured SSI dataset from SCIAMACHY on Envisat-1 and the simulated dataset from TSIS-1 SIM. The validation results show that, compared to existing scaling coefficient adjustment algorithms, the proposed method achieves single-spectrum super-resolution reconstruction without relying on external data, with a Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) of 0.0302% for the reconstructed spectra based on the dataset. The proposed method achieves higher-resolution reconstruction results while ensuring the accuracy of SSI.

The electrical load and the magnetic load of the transverse flux permanent magnet linear motor (TFPMLM) are decoupled from each other, which makes it easy to achieve modularization, and it has broad application prospects in the field of low speed and high thrust. Firstly, the topology structure of a cylindrical TFPMLM is proposed, and its working principle is introduced. Secondly, the basic electromagnetic performance of the motor is studied. Thirdly, the influence of the structural parameters on the flux linkage, back-EFM, and cogging force has been analyzed by the 3D finite element method (FEM). Then, the kriging agent model is constructed through the DOE experiment, and a set of size parameters with better performance are found by using a multi-objective genetic algorithm. Finally, the prototype and experimental setup have been developed. The calculated results and the measured results are in good agreement.

This study investigated the influence of sea–land breezes on nocturnal spatial and temporal distribution of ozone (O3) and its potential effects on particulate nitrate formation in Qingdao, a coastal city in northern China. Observation campaigns were conducted to measure surface air pollutants and meteorological factors during a typical sea–land breezes event from 22 to 23 July 2022. A coherent Doppler lidar (CDL) system was employed to continuously detect three-dimensional wind fields. The results revealed that nocturnal ozone levels were enhanced by a conversion of sea–land breezes. Initially, the prevailing northerly land breeze transported high concentrations of O3 and other air pollutants from downtown to the Yellow Sea. As the sea breeze developed in the afternoon, the sea breeze front advanced northward, resulting in a flow of high O3 concentrations back into inland areas. This penetration of the sea breeze front led to a notable spike in O3 concentrations between 16:00 on 22 July and 02:00 on 23 July across downtown areas, with an average increase of over 70 μg/m3 within 10 min. Notably, a time lag in peak O3 concentration was observed with southern downtown areas peaking before northern rural areas. During this period, combined pollution of O3 and PM2.5 was also observed. These findings indicated that the nighttime increase in O3 concentrations, coupled with enhanced atmospheric oxidation, would likely promote the secondary conversion of gaseous precursors into PM2.5.

Objective: The study aimed to evaluate the interobserver agreement among glaucoma subspecialists in diagnosing glaucoma and to explore the causes of diagnostic discrepancies. Methods: Three experienced glaucoma subspecialists independently assessed frequency domain optical coherence tomography, fundus color photographs, and static perimetry results from 464 eyes of 275 participants, adhering to unified glaucoma diagnostic criteria. All data were collected from the Wenzhou Glaucoma Progression Study between August 2014 and June 2021. Results: The overall interobserver agreement among the three experts was poor, with a Fleiss’ kappa value of 0.149. The kappa values interobserver agreement between pairs of experts ranged from 0.133 to 0.282. In 50 cases, or approximately 10.8%, the three experts reached completely different diagnoses. Agreement was more likely in cases involving larger average cup-to-disc ratios, greater vertical cup-to-disc ratios, more severe visual field defects, and thicker retinal nerve fiber layer measurements, particularly in the temporal and inferior quadrants. High myopia also negatively impacted interobserver agreement. Conclusions: Despite using unified diagnostic criteria for glaucoma, significant differences in interobserver consistency persist among glaucoma subspecialists. To improve interobserver agreement, it is recommended to provide additional training on standardized diagnostic criteria. Furthermore, for cases with inconsistent diagnoses, long-term follow-up is essential to confirm the diagnosis of glaucoma.

The increasing challenges of urbanization and climate change have driven the need for innovative stormwater management solutions. Rain gardens, as a nature-based solution (NBS), have emerged as a critical component in urban water management, particularly in enhancing hydrological regulation, water quality, and ecosystem services. This bibliometric review examines the application of rain gardens in urban environments, focusing on their roles in stormwater management, pollutant removal, and ecological enhancement. Data from 728 academic papers published between 2000 and 2023 were analyzed using the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection, employing bibliometric tools such as the “Bibliometrix” R package and CiteSpace. The analysis highlights the increasing global interest in rain gardens, particularly since 2015, with China and the United States leading research efforts. Key findings reveal that rain gardens significantly reduce runoff, improve water quality, and contribute to urban biodiversity. In addition, their integration into public spaces offers landscape esthetics and social benefits, enhancing the quality of life in urban areas. However, challenges remain in optimizing their design for diverse climates and long-term performance. The study underscores the need for further research on plant–soil interactions, pollutant removal mechanisms, and the broader ecological and social contributions of rain gardens. This review provides insights into the evolution of rain garden research and identifies future directions for advancing sustainable urban stormwater management.

The steel–aluminum hybrid body closure panels can achieve a more balanced and lightweight performance. However, the differences in the physical properties of metal sheets and the complex changes in the properties of the adhesive material result in cumulative deviations in the composite-forming process. This paper proposes a deformation pre-compensation modeling method for the autobody closure panels hemming system oriented towards the process chain, in response to the problem that single-process optimization cannot obtain global optimal results. Taking the car door scaled model as an example, based on surface reconstruction and node compensation, the curing deformation amount is fed back in advance to the gluing and hemming processes. The deformation deviation is corrected through geometric parameter pre-compensation to achieve overall process shape control and optimization. Research shows that this method can significantly reduce the surface differences and gaps of hemming structures with dissimilar materials, and a single iteration can reduce the assembly surface difference by more than 90%. This provides a reference for improving the manufacturing quality of steel–aluminum hybrid body closure panels.

Polyhalogenated carbazoles (PHCZs) are a class of nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds that are widely distributed throughout the marine environment and sediment. These compounds share structural and toxicity similarities with dioxins. However, our understanding of the toxicological effects of PHCZs on marine organisms and their underlying molecular mechanisms remains limited. In this study, we employed the marine model organism Mugilogobius chulae as the experimental subject and selected 2,7-dibromocarbazole (2,7-DBCZ), a compound known for its high toxicity and detection frequency, to conduct both an acute toxicity test and transcriptome analysis on M. chulae embryos. Our findings revealed that the 96 h median lethal concentration (LC50) of 2,7-DBCZ for M. chulae embryos was 174 μg/L, with a median effective concentration (EC50) resulting in pericardial edema deformity of 88.82 μg/L. Transcriptome analysis revealed significant impacts on various systems in M. chulae embryos following exposure to 2,7-DBCZ, including the sensory, cardiovascular, immune, and endocrine systems. Furthermore, this compound perturbed signaling pathways such as phototransduction, protein folding and processing, amino acid metabolism, lipid transport, and exogenous compound metabolism. Notably, transcript abundance of the CYP1A gene associated with the activation of the AhR signaling pathway, similar to dioxin-like compounds, was 18.18 times higher than that in the control group. This observation suggests that M. chulae embryos mount a stress response when exposed to PHCZs. In summary, this study contributes to our understanding of the toxicological implications of PHCZ in marine fish and offers a theoretical foundation for risk assessment and regulatory frameworks for PHCZs in the marine environment.

Urbanization and climate change have led to rising urban temperatures, increasing heat-related health risks. Assessing urban heat risk is crucial for understanding and mitigating these risks. Many studies often overlook the impact of block types on heat risk, which limits the development of mitigation strategies during urban planning. This study aims to investigate the influence of various spatial factors on the heat risk at the block scale. Firstly, a GIS approach was used to generate a Local Climate Zones (LCZ) map, which represents different block types. Secondly, a heat risk assessment model was developed using hazard, exposure, and vulnerability indicators. Thirdly, the risk model was demonstrated in Guangzhou, a high-density city in China, to investigate the distribution of heat risk among different block types. An XGBoost model was used to analyze the impact of various urban spatial factors on heat risk. Results revealed significant variations in heat risk susceptibility among different block types. Specifically, 33.9% of LCZ 1–4 areas were classified as being at a high-risk level, while only 23.8% of LCZ 6–9 areas fell into this level. In addition, the pervious surface fraction (PSF) had the strongest influence on heat risk level, followed by the height of roughness elements (HRE), building surface fraction (BSF), and sky view factor (SVF). SVF and PSF had a negative impact on heat risk, while HRE and BSF had a positive effect. The heat risk assessment model provides valuable insights into the spatial characteristics of heat risk influenced by different urban morphologies. This study will assist in formulating reasonable risk mitigation measures at the planning level in the future.

The dimensional accuracy and microstructure affect the service performance of parts fabricated by wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM). Regulating the geometry and microstructure of such parts presents a challenge. The coupling method of an artificial neural network and finite element (FE) is proposed in this research for this purpose. Back-propagating neural networks (BPNN) based on optimization algorithms were established to predict the bead width (BW) and height (BH) of the deposited layers. Then, the bead geometry was modeled based on the predicted dimension, and 3D FE heat transfer simulation was performed to investigate the evolution of temperature and microstructure. The results showed that the errors in BW and BH were less than 6%, and the beetle antenna search BPNN model had the highest prediction accuracy compared to the other models. The simulated melt pool error was less than 5% with the experimental results. The decrease in the ratio of the temperature gradient and solidification rate induced the transition of solidified grains from cellular crystals to columnar dendrites and then to equiaxed dendrites. Accelerating the cooling rate increased the primary dendrite arm spacing and δ-ferrite content. These results indicate that the coupling model provides a pathway for regulating the dimensions and microstructures of manufactured parts.

Extensive research has shown that nanolayered structures are capable of suppressing the shear banding in metallic glass in nanoindentation experiments. However, the specific mode and mechanism of the shear banding underneath the indenter remains unknown. Also, the quantification of shear banding-induced strain localization is still a challenge. Herein, the size-dependent shear banding behavior of a CuTiZrNb high-entropy alloy-based nanolayered glass with individual layer thicknesses (h) ranging from 5 to 80 nm was systematically investigated by nanoindentation tests. It was found that the hardness of the designed structure was almost size-independent. Yet, a clear transition in the deformation modes from the cutting-like shear bands to the kinking-like ones was discovered as h decreased to 10 nm. Moreover, multiple secondary shear bands also appeared, in addition to the primary ones, in the sample with h = 10 nm. The transition leads to an obvious strain delocalization, as clearly illustrated by the proposed theoretical model, which is based on the assumption of a pure shear stress state to quantify the shear banding-induced strain localization. The strain delocalization results from the higher density of amorphous/amorphous interfaces that exhibit the change in morphology with a refined layered glass structure.

Nature-based solutions (NbSs) are considered to form an innovative stormwater management approach that has living resolutions grounded in natural processes and structures. NbSs offer many other environmental benefits over traditional grey infrastructure, including reduced air pollution and climate change mitigation. This review predominantly centers on the hydrological aspect of NbSs and furnishes a condensed summary of the collective understanding about NbSs as an alternatives for stormwater management. In this study, which employed the CIMO (Context, Intervention, Mechanism, Outcome) framework, a corpus of 187 NbS-related publications (2000–2023) extracted from the Web of Science database were used, and we expounded upon the origins, objectives, and significance of NbSs in urban runoff and climate change, and the operational mechanisms of NbSs (including green roofs, permeable pavements, bioretention systems, and constructed wetlands), which are widely used in urban stormwater management, were also discussed. Additionally, the efficacy of NbSs in improving stormwater quality and quantity is discussed in depth in this study. In particular, the critical role of NbSs in reducing nutrients such as TSS, TN, TP, and COD and heavy metal pollutants such as Fe, Cu, Pb, and Zn is emphasized. Finally, the main barriers encountered in the promotion and application of NbSs in different countries and regions, including financial, technological and physical, regulatory, and public awareness, are listed, and future directions for improving and strategizing NbS implementation are proposed. This review gathered knowledge from diverse sources to provide an overview of NbSs, enhancing the comprehension of their mechanisms and applications. It underscores specific areas requiring future research attention.

Naphthylacetic acid (NAA) was used to increase the tuberous root yield of Rehmannia glutinosa, but the differences between its NAA-treated and control tuberous roots (NT and CG) and the regulatory mechanism of NAA effect remain unclear. In order to investigate them, NTs and CGs were used as materials, and both yield-related indices were measured; the metabolomics and transcriptomics were used to capture differentially accumulated metabolites (DAM) and to validate them via mining differentially expressed genes (DEGs), respectively. The effects of NAA treatment: increased NT mass per plant by 21.14%, through increasing the number of roots and increasing the mean root diameter; increased catalpol content by 1.2234% (p < 0.05); up-regulated 11DAMs and 596DEGs; and down-regulated 18 DAMs and 517DEGs. In particular, we discovered that NAA regulated its DAMs and biomass via 10 common metabolic pathways, and that the number of NAA-down-regulated DAMs was more than that of NAA-up-regulated DAMs in its tuberous root. Furthermore, HPLC validated the changes of several DAMs and 15 DEGs (4CL, ARF, CCoAOMT, ARGOS, etc.) associated with the yield increase and DAMs were verified by RT-qPCR. This study provided some valuable resources, such as tuberous root indices, key genes, and DAMs of Rehmannia glutinosa in response to NAA for distinguishing the CGs from NTs, and novel insights into the regulatory mechanism of NAA effects on both at the transcriptomic and metabolomic levels, so it will lay a theoretical foundation for NAA-regulated plant yield and quality, and provide references for prohibiting the uses of NAA as a swelling agent in medicinal tuber plants in China.

To evaluate the secretory function of adrenal incidentaloma, this study explored the usefulness of a contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT)-based radiomics model for distinguishing aldosterone-producing adenoma (APA) from non-functioning adrenal adenoma (NAA). Overall, 68 APA and 60 NAA patients were randomly assigned (8:2 ratio) to either a training or a test cohort. In the training cohort, univariate and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression analyses were conducted to select the significant features. A logistic regression machine learning (ML) model was then constructed based on the radiomics score and clinical features. Model effectiveness was evaluated according to the receiver operating characteristic, accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, F1 score, calibration plots, and decision curve analysis. In the test cohort, the area under the curve (AUC) of the Radscore model was 0.869 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.734–1.000], and the accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and F1 score were 0.731, 1.000, 0.583, and 0.900, respectively. The Clinic–Radscore model had an AUC of 0.994 [95% CI, 0.978–1.000], and the accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and F1 score values were 0.962, 0.929, 1.000, and 0.931, respectively. In conclusion, the CECT-based radiomics and clinical radiomics ML model exhibited good diagnostic efficacy in differentiating APAs from NAAs; this non-invasive, cost-effective, and efficient method is important for the management of adrenal incidentaloma.

There are many problems in the development of urban space in China. Among them, urban tunnels generally pass through many sections with very complicated geological conditions, and the construction will encounter great difficulties, so the mechanical behavior of shield segments in different complex strata is worth discussing. In this paper, the axial force, bending moment and pore water pressure of shield tunnel segments in the soft and hard uneven stratum, clay stratum and fully weathered granite stratum of overlying buildings are studied by establishing a rectangular element mechanical model based on the field test method. The analysis shows that the mechanical properties of shield tunnels in different strata are quite different, but their mechanical properties change stages are the same. The earth pressure on the left and right sides of the test ring is asymmetric in the soft and hard uneven stratum, and the vault pressure is much greater than the vault bottom pressure. The distribution of earth pressure in each position of the segment ring in clay stratum is relatively balanced, and the earth pressure on both sides is relatively small; in the fully weathered granite layer of the overlying building, the segment ring of the test ring is subjected to greater additional stress, and the internal force of the segment is much greater than that without the overlying building. Exploring the similarities and differences of segment stress in these three complex strata can provide an important basis for the design and construction of shield segments in complex strata.

Net primary production (NPP) serves as a crucial indicator of the ecosystem’s capacity to capture atmospheric CO2. Gaining insights into the dynamics of NPP and its driving mechanisms is pivotal for optimizing ecosystem carbon sink resource management. Since the implementation of the Grain-for-Green Program (GFGP) in 1999, the Yellow River Basin (YRB) has been one of the most significant areas for ecological restoration in China. However, our knowledge regarding the interannual variability (IAV) of NPP and the underlying driving forces in this region remains incomplete. In this study, we utilized a light use efficiency model to assess the spatiotemporal dynamics, IAV, and driving factors of NPP in the YRB during the period from 1999 to 2018. Our findings revealed that the average annual NPP in the YRB approximated 189.81 Tg C. Over the study duration, NPP significantly increased in 79.63% of the basin with an overall increasing rate of 6.76 g C m−2 yr−1. The most prominent increase was observed in the key GFGP implementation area, predominantly in the semi-humid region. Notably, the middle altitude region (1–1.5 km), semi-humid region, and grassland emerged as the primary contributors to the basin’s total vegetation carbon sequestration. However, it is worth emphasizing that there was substantial IAV in the temporal trends of NPP, with the semi-humid region being the most influential contributor (62.66%) to the overall NPP IAV in the YRB. Further analysis of the driving mechanisms unveiled precipitation as the primary driver of NPP IAV in the YRB with a contribution of 62.9%, followed by temperature (23.07%) and radiation (14.03%). Overall, this study deepened our understanding of the IAV and driving mechanisms of NPP in the YRB under ecological restoration, and provided scientific support for optimizing the management of regional carbon sequestration resources.

The technology of submerged carbon powder injection with CO2 and O2 mixed gas (SCPI-COMG) is a new type of powder injection technology. It can increase the molten bath carbon content and improve the molten steel quality by injecting carbon powder directly into the molten steel with CO2 and O2 mixed gas. To optimize the process parameters of this novel technology, the mechanism of this technology and the effect of SCPI-COMG on EAF steelmaking were investigated in this study. Based on an induction furnace experiment, the effects of molten bath carburization and fluid flow on the scrap melting were analyzed. A mathematical model of the axis of gas jets in liquid steel was built to analyze the impact behaviors of gas jets in liquid steel. Based on the results of this theoretical model, for a gas jet in liquid steel, with α ≥ 20°, the horizontal inject distance decreases with α increasing and with 0° ≤ α ≤ 20°, the horizontal inject distance increases with α increasing. Finally, based on the newly built materials and energy balance model of EAF steelmaking with SCPI-COMG, the influences of the gas-solid parameters on the EAF steelmaking technical indexes were also analyzed.is very useful for optimizing the process parameters of EAF steelmaking with SCPI-COMG. The results of this study are very useful to optimize the process parameters of EAF steelmaking with SCPI-COMG of Gas Jet in Liquid Steel.

Assessing the impact of land use and land cover change (LUCC) on soil erosion by wind and water is crucial for improving regional ecosystem services and sustainable development. In this study, the Revised Wind Erosion Equation (RWEQ) and Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) were used to reveal changes in the extent of soil erosion by wind and water in the Qaidam Basin from 2000 to 2018 and the impact of LUCC on them. From 2000 to 2018, with global climate change, the areas and intensities of soil erosion by wind decreased, whereas those of soil erosion by water increased. With increased human activities, approximately 12.96% of the total area underwent conversion of the type of use: the areas of cropland, woodland, grassland, and construction land increased, whereas the areas of shrubbery, desert, and other unused land decreased. Land use/cover changes are positive to the soil erosion of water but negative to the soil erosion of wind. Among them, the changes in vegetation coverage of other unused land and grassland contributed to 83.19% of the total reduction in soil erosion by water. Converting other unused land to grassland reduced the total reductions in soil erosion by wind by 94.69%. These results indicate that the increase in vegetative cover and area of grasslands in the Qaidam Basin had a positive impact on the reduction in soil erosion. It is recommended that the arrangement of grasses, shrubs, and trees be optimized to prevent compound erosion by wind and water for protecting regional ecological environments.

In this paper, novel humidity sensors based on montmorillonite, kaolinite, and composite films coated on micro-cantilevers were prepared to measure the relative humidity (RH) values by the deflection of a micro-cantilever (MC) at room temperature. The humidity-sensing properties, such as response and recovery, sensitivity, repeatability, humidity hysteresis, and long-term stability, were investigated in the range of working humidity (10–80% RH). The humidity response in the close humidity range of 10% RH to 80% RH revealed a linear increase in water absorption of montmorillonite, kaolinite, and montmorillonite/kaolinite mixed dispersant (1:1) as a function of RH with linear correlation factors between the humidity change and deflection estimated to be 0.994, 0.991, and 0.946, respectively. Montmorillonite’s sensitivity was better than kaolinite’s, with the mixed-clay mineral film’s response falling somewhere in between. This research provides a feasible and effective approach to constructing high-performance MC humidity sensors that can be operated at room temperature based on clay minerals.

Glyoxal and methylglyoxal are important volatile organic compounds in the atmosphere. The gas–particle partitioning of these carbonyl compounds makes significant contributions to O3 formation. In this study, both the gas- and particle-phase glyoxal and methylglyoxal concentrations at the foot and top of Mount Hua were determined simultaneously. The results showed that the gaseous-phase glyoxal and methylglyoxal concentrations at the top were higher than those at the foot of the mountain. However, the concentrations for the particle phase showed the opposite trend. The average theoretical values of the gas–particle partitioning coefficients of the glyoxal and methylglyoxal concentrations (4.57 × 10−10 and 9.63 × 10−10 m3 μg−1, respectively) were lower than the observed values (3.79 × 10−3 and 6.79 × 10−3 m3 μg−1, respectively). The effective Henry’s law constants (eff.KH) of the glyoxal and methylglyoxal were in the order of 108 to 109 mol/kgH2O/atm, and they were lower at the foot than they were at the top. The particle/gas ratios (P/G ratios) of the glyoxal and methylglyoxal were 0.039 and 0.055, respectively, indicating more glyoxal and methylglyoxal existed in the gas phase. The factors influencing the partitioning coefficients of the glyoxal and methylglyoxal were positively correlated with the relative humidity (RH) and negatively correlated with the PM2.5 value. Moreover, the partitioning coefficient of the glyoxal and methylglyoxal was more significant at the top than at the foot of Mount Hua.

This article introduces a novel framework for diagnosing faults in rolling bearings. The framework combines digital twin data, transfer learning theory, and an enhanced ConvNext deep learning network model. Its purpose is to address the challenges posed by the limited actual fault data density and inadequate result accuracy in existing research on the detection of rolling bearing faults in rotating mechanical equipment. To begin with, the operational rolling bearing is represented in the digital realm through the utilization of a digital twin model. The simulation data produced by this twin model replace traditional experimental data, effectively creating a substantial volume of well-balanced simulated datasets. Next, improvements are made to the ConvNext network by incorporating an unparameterized attention module called the Similarity Attention Module (SimAM) and an efficient channel attention feature referred to as the Efficient Channel Attention Network (ECA). These enhancements serve to augment the network’s capability for extracting features. Subsequently, the enhanced network model is trained using the source domain dataset. Simultaneously, the trained model is transferred to the target domain bearing using transfer learning techniques. This transfer learning process enables the accurate fault diagnosis of the main bearing to be achieved. Finally, the proposed method’s feasibility is validated, and a comparative analysis is conducted in comparison with similar approaches. The comparative study demonstrates that the proposed method effectively addresses the issue of low mechanical equipment fault data density, leading to improved accuracy in fault detection and classification, along with a certain level of robustness.

Therapeutic cancer vaccines are considered as one of the most cost-effective ways to eliminate cancer cells. Although many efforts have been invested into improving their therapeutic effect, transient maturation and activations of dendritic cells (DCs) cause weak responses and hamper the subsequent T cell responses. Here, we report on an alum-stabilized Pickering emulsion (APE) that can load a high number of antigens and continue to release them for extensive maturation and activations of antigen-presenting cells (APCs). After two vaccinations, APE/OVA induced both IFN-γ-secreting T cells (Th1) and IL-4-secreting T cells (Th2), generating effector CD8+ T cells against tumor growth. Additionally, although they boosted the cellular immune responses in the spleen, we found that multiple administrations of cancer vaccines (three or four times in 3-day intervals) may increase the immunosuppression with more PD-1+ CD8+ and LAG-3+ CD8+ T cells within the tumor environment, leading to the diminished overall anti-tumor efficacy. Combining this with anti-PD-1 antibodies evidently hindered the suppressive effect of multiple vaccine administrations, leading to the amplified tumor regression in B16-OVA-bearing mice.

TC17 titanium alloy is widely used in the aerospace industry, but its combustion behavior and microstructure after combustion are rarely investigated. Herein, the ignition critical oxygen pressure, combustion velocity, and microstructure after the combustion of TC17 titanium alloy were investigated by promoted ignition combustion tests under an oxygen-enriched environment. The results indicated that there were three stages, ignition, splash, and flame propagation, for the combustion process of the TC17 alloy. As compared to TC11 titanium alloy, the TC17 titanium alloy exhibited a similar ignition critical oxygen pressure with the same size, but an obviously faster burning rate, which followed a power law relationship with the oxygen pressure. The segregation of Cr, Mo, and Al was observed in the interdendritic phase of the melting zone and the interface between the melting zone and the heat-affected zone. The segregation of Cr at the liquid/solid interface can be responsible for accelerating the burning kinetic of the TC17 alloy by decreasing the interfacial temperature.

Baoji is a medium-sized city in the Guanzhong Plain of northwest China. The compositions of three important organic groups, namely n-alkanes, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and saccharides in atmospheric aerosol with different aerodynamic diameters in power were determined. Both seasonal and daily trends of the target organic chemical groups were demonstrated. The concentration levels of total quantified n-alkanes and saccharides in total suspended particles (TSP) in winter were 541 ± 39 and 651 ± 74 ng·m−3, respectively, much higher than those of the other three seasons. A high total quantified PAHs concentration level of 59.6 ± 6.4 ng·m−3 was also seen in wintertime. n-Alkanes showed a bimodal percent distribution in spring, autumn, and winter. Two peaks were found with the particle sizes of 0.7 μm < Dp < 2.1 μm and 3.3 μm < Dp < 4.7 μm, respectively. In summer, a unimodal was seen with a peak of 4.7 μm < Dp < 5.8 μm. Dehydrated saccharides and PAHs present a unimodal size distribution peaking at the aerodynamic diameters of 0.7 µm < Dp < 2.1 µm. In contrast to glucose and fructose, they mainly exist in the coarse mode particles and have the highest concentrations at aerodynamic diameters of 4.7 µm < Dp < 9.0 µm. The geometric mean diameters (GMD) of n-alkanes and saccharides of the fine particles in winter were higher than in the other seasons. Compared with the data in 2008, the fossil fuel-derived n-alkanes and PAHs in winter decreased by nearly an order of magnitude in 2017. Both the carbon preference index (CPI) of n-alkanes and the diagnostic ratios of PAHs suggest that coal combustion and vehicle exhaust were the major pollution sources of the organic groups in the two decades. It should be noted that the contribution of traffic emissions greatly increased from 2008 to 2017, consistently with a large raise of registered vehicles in Baoji city. The overall results confirm that the control measures conducted by the local government in the recent decade mitigated the air pollution in this city.

The deep learning method for natural-image object detection tasks has made tremendous progress in recent decades. However, due to multiscale targets, complex backgrounds, and high-scale small targets, methods from the field of natural images frequently fail to produce satisfactory results when applied to aerial images. To address these problems, we proposed the DET-YOLO enhancement based on YOLOv4. Initially, we employed a vision transformer to acquire highly effective global information extraction capabilities. In the transformer, we proposed deformable embedding instead of linear embedding and a full convolution feedforward network (FCFN) instead of a feedforward network in order to reduce the feature loss caused by cutting in the embedding process and improve the spatial feature extraction capability. Second, for improved multiscale feature fusion in the neck, we employed a depth direction separable deformable pyramid module (DSDP) rather than a feature pyramid network. Experiments on the DOTA, RSOD, and UCAS-AOD datasets demonstrated that our method’s average accuracy (mAP) values reached 0.728, 0.952, and 0.945, respectively, which were comparable to the existing state-of-the-art methods.

Alluvial fans are an important land resource with agricultural potential in Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. The spatiotemporal variation in land use/cover is an important indicator to understand the value of alluvial fans and protect and make scientific use of such fans. In this study, the spatiotemporal characteristics of land use/cover are determined by analysing the land use/cover changes of alluvial fans in the Lhasa River Basin (LRB) at different times, counties/districts, altitudes, and gradients. Results show that the area of cultivated land and the artificial land provided by alluvial fans for LRB has continuously increased. In 2000, 2010, and 2020, 17.72%, 21.84%, and 24.17% of cultivated land and 7.89%, 7.51%, and 25.24% of artificial land in LRB were provided by alluvial fans, respectively. At all altitudes and slopes, cultivated land and artificial land are increasing but the increasing part is basically due to the massive loss of grassland. The spatiotemporal changes in all land use/cover types of alluvial fans were dominated by human activities, although they were also influenced by natural factors to some degree.

Iron is a trace element necessary for cell growth, development, and cellular homeostasis, but insufficient or excessive level of iron is toxic. Intracellularly, sufficient amounts of iron are required for mitochondria (the center of iron utilization) to maintain their normal physiologic function. Iron deficiency impairs mitochondrial metabolism and respiratory activity, while mitochondrial iron overload promotes ROS production during mitochondrial electron transport, thus promoting potential disease development. This review provides an overview of iron homeostasis, mitochondrial iron metabolism, and how mitochondrial iron imbalances-induced mitochondrial dysfunction contribute to diseases.

Metallic materials are always suffered from the risk of combustion when serviced under some extreme conditions such as high temperature, oxygen-enriched enrichment, and high-speed friction. Although different mathematic models have been proposed but it is still a challenge for accurately describing the ignition conditions of metals under the extreme conditions, which is of great significance for the safety-use of materials. In this paper, the mathematic models based on Semenov and Frank-Kamenetskii theory were introduced into describing the effects of size, oxygen concentration, and oxygen pressure on the ignition temperature and critical oxygen pressure of TC17 alloy. The results showed that the critical oxygen pressure of TC17 alloy increased with the increase of size, which was fitted well with the Frank-Kamenetskii model. As a comparison, the critical oxygen pressure was size independent in the Semenov model, which was inconsistent with the experimental data. For the Frank-Kamenetskii model, the fitting results showed that the activation energy, reaction order, as well as the adsorption coefficient of TC17 alloy were determined to be 99.23 kJ/mol, 1.69, and 4.01 MPa−1.69 respectively. Based on above, the ignition temperature of TC17 samples with different sizes were predicted well by the Frank-Kamenetskii model with the relative error within 3.58%, which could be suitable for describing the critical ignition conditions of bulk metallic materials under complex environment.

Fucoidans represent a type of polyanionic fucose-containing sulfated polysaccharides (FCSPs) that are cleaved by fucoidan-degrading enzymes, producing low-molecular-weight fucoidans with multiple biological activities suitable for pharmacological use. Most of the reported fucoidan-degrading enzymes are glycoside hydrolases, which have been well studied for their structures and catalytic mechanisms. Little is known, however, about the rarer fucoidan lyases, primarily due to the lack of structural information. FdlA from Flavobacterium sp. SA-0082 is an endo-type fucoidan-degrading enzyme that cleaves the sulfated fuco-glucuronomannan (SFGM) through a lytic mechanism. Here, we report nine crystal structures of the catalytic N-terminal domain of FdlA (FdlA-NTD), in both its wild type (WT) and mutant forms, at resolutions ranging from 1.30 to 2.25 Å. We show that the FdlA-NTD adopts a right-handed parallel β-helix fold, and possesses a substrate binding site composed of a long groove and a unique alkaline pocket. Our structural, biochemical, and enzymological analyses strongly suggest that FdlA-NTD utilizes catalytic residues different from other β-helix polysaccharide lyases, potentially representing a novel polysaccharide lyase family.

In this study, the characteristics and formation mechanism of summertime isoprene, monoterpene, and toluene-derived secondary organic aerosols (SOAs) were investigated in a rural area of Guanzhong Plain, Northwest China. The variations in key indicators of primary sources indicated a significant influence of biomass burning on PM2.5 during the observation period. The concentrations of total measured SOA tracers from isoprene, monoterpene, and toluene were 40.85 ± 17.31, 24.27 ± 7.50, and 10.61 ± 0.33 ng/m3, respectively. The average ratio of cis-pinonic and pinic acids to 3-Methyl-1,2,3-butanetricarboxylic acid (MBTCA)(P/M) were 0.45 and 0.85 by day and by night, respectively. The low ratio in the daytime was mainly due to the stronger photo-degradation and particle-to-gas distribution of semi-volatile cis-pinonic and pinic acids. The monoterpene SOA tracers were significantly correlated with levoglucosan at night (R2 = 0.51, p < 0.01), as were toluene SOA tracers and levoglucosan (R2 > 0.67, p < 0.01), indicating the significant contribution of biomass combustion to these SOAs. The mass concentration of isoprene-, monoterpenes-, and toluene-derived SOC was estimated by using the tracer yield method. The total calculated SOCs by day and by night were 0.25–0.71 (average: 0.46) and 0.26–0.78 (average: 0.42) µgC/m3, accounting for 3.35–10.58% and 3.87–13.51% of OC by day and by night, respectively.

To address the demand for natural fibers, developing new varieties that are resistant to abiotic stress is necessary. The present study was designed to investigate the physiological and biochemical traits of three varieties of C. capularis (Y49, Y38, and Y1) and four varieties C. olitorius (T8, W57, M33, M18) under low temperature to identify the cold-tolerant varieties and elucidate the mechanisms involved in enhancing cold tolerance. Research findings revealed that the varieties Y49 and M33 exhibited the highest chlorophyll and carotenoid content. Biochemical profiles revealed that varieties Y49 and M33 were found to be able to withstand low-temperature stress by accumulating different enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APx), glutathione (GSH), and phenolics, which participated in reducing the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) caused by low temperature. Osmolytes compounds, such as total soluble sugar, significantly increased in Y49 and M33; and proline content decreased in all varieties except Y49 and M33 after low-temperature exposure. The rise in these osmolytes molecules can be a defense mechanism for the jute’s osmotic readjustment to reduce the oxidative damage induced by low temperature. Furthermore, PCA and hierarchical cluster analysis distinguished the seven varieties into three separate groups. Results confirmed that group I (Y49 and M33 varieties) were low-temperature tolerant, group II (M18, W57) were intermediate, whereas III groups (Y38, T8, and Y1) were low temperature susceptible. PCA also explained 88.36% of the variance of raw data and clearly distinguished three groups that are similar to the cluster heat map. The study thus confirmed the tolerance of selected varieties that might be an efficient adaptation strategy and utilized them for establishing breeding programs for cold tolerance.

For the dissection and identification of the molecular response mechanisms to salt stress in cannabis, an experiment was conducted surveying the diversity of physiological characteristics. RNA-seq profiling was carried out to identify differential expression genes and pathway which respond to salt stress in different cannabis materials. The result of physiological diversity analyses showed that it is more sensitive to proline contents in K94 than in W20; 6 h was needed to reach the maximum in K94, compared to 12 h in W20. For profiling 0–72 h after treatment, a total of 10,149 differentially expressed genes were identified, and 249 genes exhibited significantly diverse expression levels in K94, which were clustered in plant hormone signal transduction and the MAPK signaling pathway. A total of 371 genes showed significant diversity expression variations in W20, which were clustered in the phenylpropanoid biosynthesis and plant hormone signal transduction pathway. The pathway enrichment by genes which were identified in K94 and W20 showed a similar trend to those clustered in plant hormone signal transduction pathways and MAPK signaling. Otherwise, there were 85 genes which identified overlaps between the two materials, indicating that these may be underlying genes related to salt stress in cannabis. The 86.67% agreement of the RNA-seq and qRT-PCR indicated the accuracy and reliability of the RNA-seq technique. Additionally, the result of physiological diversity was consistent with the predicted RNA-seq-based findings. This research may offer new insights into the molecular networks mediating cannabis to respond to salt stress.

Synthetic rock crystals often show a typical infrared (IR) absorption band at 3585 cm−1. However, the authors recently found this band in a natural rock crystal with blue coating. The origin of this IR band is controversial as yet. In this paper, the infrared spectra of several natural and synthetic rock crystal samples which were heated to 673 K and 1073 K were measured after these samples returned to room temperature. Comparing the infrared spectra of samples before and after heating, we found the absorption band at 3585 cm−1 was induced by the thermal process, which indicates that this band cannot be used as diagnostic evidence for synthetic rock crystal alone. In addition, the LiOH bands decreased while AlOH bands increased upon thermal processing. And the negative correlation between the LiOH bands and the 3585 cm−1 band was also distinct. The above results reveal that the thermal process destroyed the LiOH defects, leading to the formation of a new AlLi defect. And the isolated OH− defect inside dislocations generated upon thermal processing is considered to be the exact cause of the 3585 cm−1 band.

Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus L.) is a valuable plant with a potential health benefit because of its extensive bioactive compounds. Leaf extracts of 33 kenaf genotypes were investigated for their polysaccharide, total phenolic, and flavonoid content. The antioxidant properties were evaluated by 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2′-azinobis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS), and ferric reducing antioxidant potential (FRAP) assays. Antimicrobial capacity was also assessed against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli using a disc diffusion assay. The polysaccharide content varied from 6.45–16.12 mg glucose per g DW. Total phenolic and flavonoid content ranged from 6.03–21.15 mg GAE/g DW and 1.55–9.24 mg RE/g DW, respectively. Similarly, varied values in the range 20.55–79.99% of inhibition by DPPH, 56.28–88.30% of inhibition by ABTS and 1.26–5.08 mmol Fe2+/g DW by FRAP assays were obtained for antioxidants of the genotype extracts. Extracts from CS4 and CS2 genotypes had the highest antioxidant activities. Kenaf leaves exhibited antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Strong correlation was found between antioxidant activity with polysaccharide (DPPH, r = 0.893; ABTS, r = 0.819; FRAP, r = 0.864) and total phenolic content (DPPH, r = 0.850; ABTS, r = 0.959; FRAP, r = 0.953). The results suggested that the kenaf leaves could be used as a natural antioxidants and antimicrobial in food industries.

Extensive experiments have shown that gradient nano-grained metals have outstanding synergy of strength and ductility. However, the deformation mechanisms of gradient metals are still not fully understood due to their complicated gradient microstructure. One of the difficulties is the accurate description of the deformation of the nanocrystalline surface layer of the gradient metals. Recent experiments with a closer inspection into the surface morphology of the gradient metals reported that shear bands (strain localization) occur at the surface of the materials even under a very small, applied strain, which is in contrast to previously suggested uniform deformation. Here, a dislocation density-based computational model is developed to investigate the shear band evolution in gradient Cu to overcome the above difficulty and to clarify the above debate. The Voronoi polygon is used to establish the irregular grain structure, which has a gradual increase in grain size from the material surface to the interior. It was found that the shear band occurs at a small applied strain in the surface region of the gradient structure, and multiple shear bands are gradually formed with increasing applied load. The early appearance of shear banding and the formation of abundant shear bands resulted from the constraint of the coarse-grained interior. The number of shear bands and the uniform elongation of the gradient material were positively related, both of which increased with decreasing grain size distribution index and gradient layer thickness or increasing surface grain size. The findings are in good agreement with recent experimental observations in terms of stress-strain responses and shear band evolution. We conclude that the enhanced ductility of gradient metals originated from the gradient deformation-induced stable shear band evolution during tension.

In the current study, the photooxidation reaction of toluene (C7H8) was investigated in a Potential Aerosol Mass Oxidation Flow Reactor (PAM OFR). The hydroxyl radical (OH) exposure of toluene in the PAM OFR ranged from 0.4 to 1.4 × 1012 molec cm−3 s, which is equivalent to 3 to 12 days of atmospheric oxidation. A proton transfer reaction-mass spectrometer (PTR-MS) and a scanning mobility particle sizer (SMPS) were used to study the gas-phase products formed and particle number changes of the oxidation reaction in PAM OFR. The secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formed in the PAM OFR was also collected for off-line chemical analysis. Key gas-phase reaction products of toluene, including glyoxal, methyl glyoxal, unsaturated carbonyl compounds, and benzaldehyde, were identified by the PTR-MS. Second generation products, including acetic acid, formaldehyde, formic acid, and acetaldehyde, were also detected. By comparing the mass spectrums obtained under different OH exposures and relative humidity (RH), changes in the two parameters have minimal effects on the composition of gas-phase products formed, expect for the spectrum obtained at OH exposure of 0.4 × 1012 cm−3 s and RH = 17%, which is slightly different from other spectrums. SMPS results showed that particle mass concentration increases with increasing OH exposure, while particle number concentration first increases and then decreases with increasing OH exposure. This result probably suggests the formation of oligomers at high OH exposure conditions. Off-line chemical analysis of the SOA sample was dominated by C4 diacids, including malic acid, citramalic acid, and tartaric acid. The well-known toluene SOA marker 2,3-Dihydroxy-4-oxopentanoic acid, as well as 2,3-dihydroxyglutaric acid, which has not been identified in previous toluene photooxidation experiments, were also detected in the SOA sample. Our results showed good agreements with the results of previous smog chamber studies of toluene photooxidation reaction, and they suggested that using PAM OFR for studies of oxidation reaction of different VOCs can be atmospherically relevant.

Oxidative stress is involved in a wide variety of pathologies, and fullerene has been shown to have an antioxidant ability. Mycotoxins exert toxic effects through induction of excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS). Here, we evaluated water-soluble fullerene C60 for its anti-mycotoxin and antioxidant effects in vitro and in vivo. Intestinal epithelial cells were cultured with fullerene during deoxynivalenol (DON) exposure. The results revealed that fullerene C60 significantly promoted cell viability, decreased apoptosis and necrotic cell number, and significantly reduced intracellular ROS levels during DON exposure (p < 0.05). To investigate the role of fullerene in antioxidant capacity in vivo further, 40 three-week-old male C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into four groups. There were no significant differences between the control and fullerene groups (p > 0.05). In mice exposed to DON, supplementation with fullerene C60 significantly improved growth performance, and enhanced the total antioxidant status and the activities of SOD and GPX in the intestine and liver (p < 0.05). In addition, fullerene C60 supplementation improved intestinal morphology, as indicated by a higher villus height and tight junction protein expression (p < 0.05). Furthermore, fullerene supplementation decreased serum concentrations of inflammatory cytokine and lipopolysaccharide (LPS; a penetrability marker) compared to the DON-challenged group (p < 0.05). The current study suggests that fullerene C60 improves intestinal antioxidant status against DON-induced oxidative stress in vitro and in vivo.

Lentiviral vectors (LVs) are a powerful tool for gene and cell therapy and human embryonic kidney cells (HEK293) have been extensively used as a platform for production of these vectors. Like most cells and cellular tissues, HEK293 cells release extracellular vesicles (EVs). EVs released by cells share similar size, biophysical characteristics and even a biogenesis pathway with cell-produced enveloped viruses, making it a challenge to efficiently separate EVs from LVs. Thus, EVs co-purified with LVs during downstream processing, are considered “impurities” in the context of gene and cell therapy. A greater understanding of EVs co-purifying with LVs is needed to enable improved downstream processing. To that end, EVs from an inducible lentivirus producing cell line were studied under two conditions: non-induced and induced. EVs were identified in both conditions, with their presence confirmed by transmission electron microscopy and Western blot. EV cargos from each condition were then further characterized by a multi-omic approach. Nineteen proteins were identified by mass spectrometry as potential EV markers to differentiate EVs in LV preparations. Lipid composition of EV preparations before and after LV induction showed similar enrichment in phosphatidylserine. RNA cargos in EVs showed enrichment in transcripts involved in viral processes and binding functions. These findings provide insights on the product profile of lentiviral preparations and could support the development of improved separation strategies aimed at removing co-produced EVs.

In this paper, the spatial properties of correlated photon in collinear phase-matching in the process of spontaneous parametric down conversion (SPDC) are researched. Based on the study of the phase-matching angle, non-collinear angle, and correlated photon wavelength, a theoretical model of non-collinear angular variation is derived, which can be used to estimate and predict the width of the correlated photon ring. The experimental measurement is carried out with CMOS camera, and the measurement results are consistent with the theoretical simulation results, which verifies the rationality of theoretical reasoning. Meanwhile, the change of the correlated photon divergence angle outside the crystal is studied, the closer the wavelength is to the degenerate, the smaller the measurement value of the divergence angle, which is agreement with the theoretical simulation. The results of the study play a reference role in the evaluation of the spatial properties of correlated photon and lay a foundation for the measurement of the correlated photon number rate and the calibration of a photodetector.

The accelerated global warming and heterogeneous change in precipitation have been resulting in climate system shifts, which plays a key role in the stability of ecosystem and social economic development. Central Asia is account 80% of the temperate desert, characterized by fragile ecosystem; however, it has experienced the fastest warming in recent decades and projected warming in future. The Köppen-Geiger climate classification is a useful tool to assess the potential impacts of climate change on regional ecosystem. The spatial shift and temporal evolution of each climatic zone based on Köppen-Geiger climate classification are analyzed in historical and future period under different scenarios (RCP2.6, RCP4.5 and RCP8.5), high risk regions that might experience more frequent climatic zone shifts are delimited in this study, which could provide the useful information for developing mitigate strategies in coping with the warming threat. The hotter and dryer subtypes of arid climatic zone and warmer subtypes of temperate climatic zone expanded their coverage in Central Asia, corresponding to the tundra climatic, cooler subtype of arid and temperate climatic zone contracted. Based on a method defining the climate-sensitivity, high risk regions are mainly distributed in northern Kazakhstan and Tianshan Mountains region.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary insect powder supplementation as a protein source on plasma amino acid profiles, intestinal amino acid transport and sensing in a piglet model. A total of 144 weanling piglets were randomly assigned to four experimental diets for two phases (Days 1–28 and Days 29–56), to assess the effects on amino acid profiles and transportation in the segments of the intestine. The groups were basal diet (control), control diet plus Tenebrio molitor (TM), control diet plus Musca domestica larvae (MDL) and control diet plus Zophobas morio (ZM). The plasma free amino acid levels were stable comparable among treatments, except that the lysine level was significantly reduced by dietary MDL and ZM supplementation in the first phase (p < 0.05). In the 1st phase, the sensitivity of intestinal segments to the regulation of the amino acid level by insect powder supplementation follows sequence: colon > ileum > jejunum, while the order switched to jejunum > colon > ileum in the 2nd phase. The relative RNA expressions of mitogen-activated protein 4 kinase 3 (MAP4K3), sodium dependent neutral amino acid transporter2 (SNAT2), the transient receptor potential cation channel subfamily V member 1 (TRPV1) and taste 1 receptor member 1/3 (T1R3) in the segments of the intestine were affected by different dietary insect powder supplementation. G protein-coupled receptor family C group 6 member A (GPRC6A) level in the jejunal and colonic mucosa was upregulated by MDL supplementation (p < 0.05). These results indicated that dietary insects improved the metabolism of the amino acid in the prophase (the 1st phase) through regulating the sensing gene and mTOR signal pathway in intestinal mucosa by targeting different receptors. The finding demonstrates that the insect powder is a potentially promising source for protein deposition.

It is proven that β-amyloid (Aβ) aggregates containing cross-β-sheet structures led to oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, and neuronal loss via multiple pathways. Therefore, reduction of Aβ neurotoxicity via inhibiting aggregation of Aβ or dissociating toxic Aβ aggregates into nontoxic forms might be effective therapeutic methods for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) treatment. This study was designed to explore interference of chitosan oligosaccharides (COS) on β-(1-42)-amyloid protein (Aβ42) aggregation and Aβ42-induced cytotoxicity. Here it was demonstrated that COS showed good blood-brain barrier (BBB) penetration ability in vitro and in vivo. The experimental results showed that COS efficiently interfered with Aβ42 aggregation in dose- and degree of polymerization (DP)-dependent manners, and COS monomer with DP6 showed the best effect on preventing conformational transition into β-sheet-rich structures. Based on the binding affinity analysis by microscale thermophoresis (MST), it was confirmed that COS could directly bind with Aβ42 in a DP-dependent manner. Our findings demonstrated that different performance of COS monomers with different DPs against Aβ42 assembly was, to some extent, attributable to their different binding capacities with Aβ42. As a result, COS significantly ameliorated Aβ42-induced cytotoxicity. Taken together, our studies would point towards a potential role of COS in treatment of AD.

Acetone is a biomarker in the exhaled breath of diabetic patients; sensitive and selective detection of acetone in human exhaled breath plays an important role in noninvasive diagnosis. Tungsten oxide (especially for γ-WO3) is a promising material for the detection of breath acetone. It is generally believed that the stable metastable phase of WO3 (ε-WO3) is the main reason for the improved response to acetone detection. In this work, pure and Cr-doped urchin-like WO3 hollow spheres were synthesized by a facile hydrothermal approach. Analyses of the resulting materials via X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman confirmed that they are mainly composed by γ-WO3. The gas sensing performances of pure and Cr-doped WO3 to acetone were systematically tested. Results show that the sensor based on pure WO3 annealed at 450 °C has a high response of 20.32 toward 100 ppm acetone at a working temperature of 250 °C. After doped with Cr, the response was increased 3.5 times higher than the pure WO3 sensor. The pure and Cr-doped WO3 sensors both exhibit a tiny response to other gases, low detection limits (ppb-level) and an excellent repeatability. The improvement of gas sensing properties could be attributed to an optimized morphology of Cr-doped WO3 by regulating the crystal growth and reducing the assembled nanowires’ diameter. The increasing number of oxygen vacancy and the introduction of impurity energy level with trap effect after Cr doping would lead to the wider depletion layer as well as a better gas sensing performance. This work will contribute to the development of new WO3 acetone sensors with a novel morphology and will explain the increased response after Cr doping from a new perspective.

We propose a space benchmark sensor with onboard SI (Système International) traceability by means of quantum optical radiometry. Correlated photon pairs generated by spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) in nonlinear crystals are used to calibrate the absolute responsivity of a solar observing radiometer. The calibration is systematic, insensitive to degradation and independent of external radiometric standards. Solar spectral irradiance at 380–2500 nm is traceable to the photon rate and Planck’s constant with an expected uncertainty of about 0.35%. The principle of SPDC calibration and a prototype design of the solar radiometer are introduced. The uncertainty budget is analyzed in consideration of errors arising from calibration and observation modes.

Electromagnetic forming (EMF) is a high-speed forming technology, which can not only improve the formability of hard-to-form materials but also reduce springback. Electromagnetic high-speed impact can further improve the formability compared with electromagnetic free forming. The microscopic deformation mechanism of electromagnetic high-speed impact of aluminum alloy is discussed in this paper. The microstructures of electromagnetic high-speed impact of an aluminum alloy sheet were characterized. The microscopic deformation mechanisms of electromagnetic forming and electromagnetic high-speed impact were shown, respectively. The research results showed that electromagnetic high-speed impact could significantly improve the microhardness of the workpiece. The grains broke up and then became small subgrains during electromagnetic high-speed impact. The deformation mechanism was dominated by dislocation cross slip under electromagnetic high-speed impact.

Most butterfly larvae are agricultural pests and forest pests, but butterflies have important ornamental value and the ability to sense and respond to changes in the ecological environment. There are many types of butterflies, and the research on classification of butterfly species is of great significance in practical work such as environmental protection and control of agricultural and forest pests. Butterfly classification is a fine-grained image classification problem that is more difficult than generic image classification. Common butterfly photos are mostly specimen photos (indoor photos) and ecological photos (outdoor photos/natural images). At present, research on butterfly classification is more based on specimen photos. Compared with specimen photos, classification based on ecological photos is relatively difficult. This paper mainly takes ecological photos as the research object, and presents a new classification network that combines the dilated residual network, squeeze-and-excitation (SE) module, and spatial attention (SA) module. The SA module can make better use of the long-range dependencies in the images, while the SE module takes advantage of global information to enhance useful information features and suppress less useful features. The results show that the integrated model achieves higher recall, precision, accuracy, and f1-score than the state-of-the-art methods on the introduced butterfly dataset.

Early weaning stress impairs the development of gastrointestinal barrier function, causing immune system dysfunctions, reduction in feed intake, and growth retardation. Autophagy was hypothesized to be a key underlying cellular process in these dysfunctions. We conjectured that rapamycin (RAPA) and chloroquine (CQ), as two autophagy-modifying agents, regulate the autophagy process and may produce deleterious or beneficial effects on intestinal health and growth. To explore the effect of autophagy on early weaning stress in piglets, 18 early-weaned piglets were assigned to three treatments (each treatment of six piglets) and treated with an equal volume of RAPA, CQ, or saline. The degree of autophagy and serum concentrations of immunoglobulins and cytokines, as well as intestinal morphology and tight junction protein expression, were evaluated. Compared with the control treatment, RAPA-treated piglets exhibited activated autophagy and had decreased final body weight (BW) and average daily gain (ADG) (p < 0.05), impaired intestinal morphology and tight junction function, and higher inflammatory responses. The CQ-treated piglets showed higher final BW, ADG, jejuna and ileal villus height, and lower autophagy and inflammation, compared with control piglets (p < 0.05). Throughout the experiment, CQ treatment was beneficial to alleviate early weaning stress and intestinal and immune system dysfunction.

The first example of the palladium-catalyzed synthesis of o-aminobenzophenones in moderate to excellent yields via a direct addition of sodium arylsulfinates to unprotected 2-aminobenzonitriles was reported. A plausible mechanism for the formation of o-aminobenzophenones involving desulfination and addition reactions was proposed. The utility of this transformation was demonstrated by its compatibility with a wide range of functional groups. Thus, the method represents a convenient and practical strategy for synthesis of o-aminobenzophenones.
