Glecaprevir (an NS3/4A protease inhibitor) and pibrentasvir (an NS5A inhibitor) are potent and pangenotypic hepatitis C virus (HCV) direct-acting antivirals. This report describes the baseline polymorphisms and treatment-emergent substitutions in NS3 or NS5A detected in samples from HCV genotype 1-infected patients receiving 3-day monotherapy of glecaprevir or pibrentasvir, respectively. None of the NS3 polymorphisms detected in the 47 baseline samples collected prior to glecaprevir monotherapy conferred reduced susceptibility to glecaprevir. The NS3 A156T substitution, which conferred resistance to glecaprevir but had low replication efficiency, emerged in one genotype 1a-infected patient among the 35 patients with available post-baseline sequence data. Baseline NS5A polymorphisms were detected in 12 of 40 patients prior to pibrentasvir monotherapy; most polymorphisms were single-position NS5A amino acid substitutions that did not confer resistance to pibrentasvir. Among the 19 patients with available post-baseline NS5A sequence data, 3 had treatment-emergent NS5A substitutions during pibrentasvir monotherapy. All treatment-emergent NS5A substitutions were linked multiple-position, almost exclusively double-position, substitutions that conferred resistance to pibrentasvir. Replicons engineered with these double-position substitutions had low replication efficiency. In conclusion, resistance-conferring substitutions emerged in a small number of genotype 1-infected patients during glecaprevir or pibrentasvir monotherapy; unlike other NS5A inhibitors, pibrentasvir did not select single-position NS5A substitutions during monotherapy.

The dielectric function and the bandgap of BiFe0.5Cr0.5O3 thin films were determined from spectroscopic ellipsometry and compared with that of the parent compounds BiFeO3 and BiCrO3. The bandgap value of BiFe0.5Cr0.5O3 is lower than that of BiFeO3 and BiCrO3, due to an optical transition at ~2.27 eV attributed to a charge transfer excitation between the Cr and Fe ions. This optical transition enables new phonon modes which have been investigated using Raman spectroscopy by employing multi-wavelengths excitation. The appearance of a new Raman mode at ~670 cm−1 with a strong intensity dependence on the excitation line and its higher order scattering activation was found for both BiFe0.5Cr0.5O3 thin films and BiFexCr1−xO3 polycrystalline bulk samples. Furthermore, Raman spectroscopy was also used to investigate temperature induced structural phase transitions in BiFe0.3Cr0.7O3.

The aim of this study is the investigation of a technological synthesis of MgAlON, which is a prospective coating material on ceramic foam filters for the filtration of magnesium, aluminum, and other metal melts. Thermodynamic calculations are performed, and the synthesis is carried out at 1500 °C in nitrogen atmosphere using samples consisting of different fractions of Al2O3, MgO, and AlN as starting materials. The effect of the quantity of these components on the conversion degree of the educts is evaluated. Furthermore, the effect of the holding time at the synthesis temperature, as well as the composition points or regions showing the highest conversion degree, are determined. XRD analysis is performed to evaluate the phase fractions and lattice parameters of the spinel after the respective reaction, and the nitrogen content of selected samples is evaluated. Sessile drop tests using AlSi7Mg are performed at 950 °C on selected sintered samples, determining their wettability, and therefore, applicability of the material in light metal melt filtration.

Without self-interaction corrections or the use of hybrid functionals, approximations to the density-functional theory (DFT) often favor intermediate spin systems over high-spin systems. In this paper, we apply the recently proposed Fermi–Löwdin-orbital self-interaction corrected density functional formalism to a simple tetra-coordinated Fe(II)-porphyrin molecule and show that the energetic orderings of the S = 1 and S = 2 spin states are changed qualitatively relative to the results of Generalized Gradient Approximation (developed by Perdew, Burke, and Ernzerhof, PBE-GGA) and Local Density Approximation (developed by Perdew and Wang, PW92-LDA). Because the energetics, associated with changes in total spin, are small, we have also calculated the second-order spin–orbit energies and the zero-point vibrational energies to determine whether such corrections could be important in metal-substituted porphins. Our results find that the size of the spin–orbit and vibrational corrections to the energy orderings are small compared to the changes due to the self-interaction correction. Spin dependencies in the Infrared (IR)/Raman spectra and the zero-field splittings are provided as a possible means for identifying the spin in porphyrins containing Fe(II).
