A typical magnetometer-based measurement-while-drilling (MWD) system determines the azimuth of the bottom hole assembly during the drilling process by employing triaxial accelerometers and magnetometers. The geomagnetic azimuth solution is susceptible to magnetic interference, especially strong magnetic interference and so a rotary norm constraint filtering (RNCF) method for azimuth estimation, designed to support a gyroscope-aided magnetometer-based MWD system, is proposed. First, a new magnetic dynamical system, one whose output is observed by the magnetometers triad, is designed based on the Coriolis equation of the desired geomagnetic vector. Second, given that the norm of the non-interfered geomagnetic vector can be approximated as a constant during a short-term drilling process, a norm constraint procedure is introduced to the Kalman filter. This is achieved by the normalization of the geomagnetic part of the state vector of the dynamical system and is undertaken in order to obtain a precise geomagnetic component. Simulation and actual drilling experiments show that the proposed RNCF method can effectively improve the azimuth measurement precision with 98.5% over the typical geomagnetic solution and 37.1% over the KF in a RMSE sense when being strong magnetic interference environment.

The freezing winter temperatures in Northeast China hinder the breakdown speed of straw, making it challenging to implement widespread straw return in rice fields, meaning that crop remnants are not efficiently utilised. This study involved a pot experiment conducted on rice plants that were treated with varying quantities of biochar: CK (no biochar); BC1 (5 t ha−1); BC2 (10 t ha−1); and BC3 (20 t ha−1). An investigation was conducted to examine the impact of biochar on the soil organic carbon (SOC), humus (HS) composition, humic acid (HA) structure, and rice yield of paddy fields. The findings demonstrated that the use of biochar led to a substantial rise in SOC and HA-C concentrations in the soil layer between 20 and 40 cm. Additionally, biochar’s application enhanced soil humification. Notably, the treatment with BC3 (20 t ha−1) had the most pronounced impact. The O/C ratio in the HA and the relative strength of the peaks at 1620 cm−1 on the infrared spectra showed a more pronounced response to the BC3 treatment compared to the other biochar treatments. However, the application of the BC1 treatment at a rate of 5 t ha−1 and the BC2 treatment at a rate of 10 t ha−1 had a minimal impact on the fluorescence intensity of humic acid (HA). The application of the BC3 treatment increased the aromatic nature of the humic acid (HA) in paddy soil, leading to the formation of an intricate and enduring HA structure. Furthermore, the use of the BC3 treatment resulted in a notable enhancement in the quantity of spikes, spike weight, and number of grains per spike. Additionally, it positively impacted the accumulation of dry matter in the spike, leading to a substantial 13.7% increase in the rice yield. Applying biochar at a rate of 20 t ha−1 is a sensible and effective approach to enhance the soil organic carbon (SOC) content, enhance the stability of the humic acid (HA)’s structure, and raise the rice yield in the rice-growing area of Northeast China. This study’s findings will establish a theoretical foundation for utilising soil biochar in the rice fields located in Northeast China.

The continuous input, slow decomposition, and retention of straw can impede tillage and crop growth, and the decomposition process of the straw in soil is affected by its composition and the method of application. Experimental Station of Jilin Agricultural University, Changchun City, Jilin Province. The soil type was Argiudolls, the experimental field area was 30 m2, and the maize was planted continuously for 12 years without returning the straw to the field. There were four treatments: (1) control (CK), 10 g of straw was placed on the surface of a nylon mesh bag, and the nylon mesh bag was separated from the soil by polyethylene film without contacting with the soil; (2) straw mulching (CM), a nylon mesh bag with 10 g of straw was placed on the soil surface; (3) straw burying (CD), a nylon mesh bag with 10 g of straw was buried at a depth of 40 cm from the soil surface; (4) straw burying (CE), a nylon mesh bag with 40 cm of soil depth. Fifteen micro-zones were set up with a micro-zone area of 1 m2 and each micro-zone consisted of four treatments randomly grouped in three replicates per treatment. The on-site nylon bag burying trial started on 20 April 2021 and ended on 15 April 2022. Nylon bag and soil samples were collected on days 0, 30, 90, 180, 270, and 360. SOC, TN, straw component decomposition, and water droplet-soil contact angle were determined. Our results showed that the CE treatment increased soil organic carbon (SOC) and total nitrogen (TN) content compared to the CM and CD treatments. Compared with CK, straw decomposition rates increased by 13.3%, 30.8%, and 22.3% in the CM, CD, and CE treatments, respectively. Lignin decomposition rates increased by 7.8%, 27.3%, and 16.2%; cellulose decomposition rates increased by 14.6%, 35.4%, and 27.3%; and hemicellulose decomposition rates increased by 17.2%, 31.7% and 23.7% in the CD treatment, respectively. Compared with CK, the contact angle of droplets in the CD treatment was statistically significantly increased by 91.5% when the droplets remained on the soil surface for 5 s. The rate of decrease of droplet contact angle with time was statistically significantly decreased by 11.8%, and the penetration rate of droplets on the soil surface was slower. Overall, the CD treatment promoted straw decomposition and increased SWR compared to the CM and CE treatments. which are important attributes to enhance soil quality and improve soil structural stability.

Litter size is an important indicator to measure the reproductive performance of goats, which is affected by the reproductive function of animals. The hypothalamus, as the regulatory center of the endocrine system, plays an important role in the reproduction of female animals. Here, we performed high-throughput RNA sequencing using hypothalamic tissue from high-fecundity and low-fecundity Leizhou goats to explore critical functional genes associated with litter size. Differentially expressed mRNA, lncRNA, and circRNAs were screened using DESeq and were enriched, and then analyzed by Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Gene and Genome. Results showed that some of these differentially expressed mRNAs could be enriched in reproductive processes, jak-STAT, prolactin signaling pathway, and other signaling pathways related to reproduction, such as SOCS3. Furthermore, the central proteins POSTN, MFAP5, and DCN from protein–protein interaction may regulate animal reproductive activity by affecting cell proliferation and apoptosis. lncRNA MSTRG.33887.2 as well as circRNAs chicirc_098002, chicirc_072583, and chicirc_053531 may be able to influence animal reproduction by participating in folate metabolism and energy metabolism homeostasis through their respective target genes. Our results expand the molecular mechanism of hypothalamic regulation on animal reproduction.

Mammals rely on vision and self-motion information in nature to distinguish directions and navigate accurately and stably. Inspired by the mammalian brain neurons to represent the spatial environment, the brain-inspired positioning method based on multi-sensors’ input is proposed to solve the problem of accurate navigation in the absence of satellite signals. In the research related to the application of brain-inspired engineering, it is not common to fuse various sensor information to improve positioning accuracy and decode navigation parameters from the encoded information of the brain-inspired model. Therefore, this paper establishes the head-direction cell model and the place cell model with application potential based on continuous attractor neural networks (CANNs) to encode visual and inertial input information, and then decodes the direction and position according to the population neuron firing response. The experimental results confirm that the brain-inspired navigation model integrates a variety of information, outputs more accurate and stable navigation parameters, and generates motion paths. The proposed model promotes the effective development of brain-inspired navigation research.

Supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) is a promising wastewater treatment technology owing to its various advantages such as rapid reactions and non-polluting products. However, problems like corrosion and salt decomposition set obstacles to its commercialization. To address these problems, researchers have been developing the optimal reactor design and strengthening measures based on sufficient understandings of the degradation kinetics. The essence of the SCWO process and the roles of oxygen and hydrogen peroxide are summarized in this work. Then, the research status and progress of empirical models, semi-empirical models, and detailed chemical kinetic models (DCKMs) are systematically reviewed. Additionally, this paper is the first to summarize the research progress of quantum chemistry and molecular dynamics simulation. The challenge and further development of kinetics models for the optimization of reactors and the directional transformation of pollutants are pointed out.

Supercritical hydrothermal combustion, a new and promising homogeneous combustion technology with a wide range of application scenarios and broad development prospects, provides creative ideas and means for the enhanced degradation of organic wastes, hydrothermal spallation drilling, thermal recovery of heavy oil, etc. This technology is elaborated upon in five parts: (1) introducing the main devices including semi-batch reactor and continuous reactor to study the hydrothermal flame in accordance with research institutions, (2) presenting the research status of related numerical simulation from the angles of reaction kinetics and flow-reaction, (3) summarizing the characteristics of hydrothermal flame and combustion by five key parameters, (4) dividing up ignition process and explaining ignition mechanism from the perspectives of critical physical properties of water and heat transfer and mixing conditions, (5) discussing and forecasting its industrial applications including hydrothermal spallation drilling, the thermal recovery of heavy oil, the clean conversion and utilization of coal-based fuel, and the harmless treatment of pollutants. By and large, this paper analyzed in detail everything from experimental equipment to industrial applications, from combustion characteristics to ignition mechanisms, and from summary conclusions to prospect prediction. In the end, herein is summarized a couple of existing paramount scientific and technical obstacles in hydrothermal combustion. Further significant studies in the future should include excellent reactors, advanced monitoring techniques, and powerful computational fluid dynamics.

To analyze the effect of runoff on shallow landslides, a model coupling one-dimensional rainfall–runoff and two-dimensional infiltration was established to simulate rainfall, infiltration, and runoff processes. Based on Bishop’s limit equilibrium method, the slope failure of a hypothetical footslope was studied. First, conditions with and without inflow were compared. The results reveal a remarkable difference in factors of safety (FS) between the two conditions, suggesting that considering the effect of runoff is crucial for landslide modeling. In terms of a series of tests of the various magnitudes, durations, lag-time, and peak position of the hydrograph, analyses show that larger inflow leads to more accumulated infiltration and triggers landslides earlier. A long-term duration inflow decreases the stability more than short intensive inflow does. With subsequent surface inflow, slope failure may occur after rainfalls stop, owing to the inflow, and the shape of inflow hydrographs could slightly affect the variance in FS. Results also indicate the necessity of considering the surface runoff when using a numerical model to analyze landslide, particularly on a footslope.

In this study, a two-dimensional numerical landslide model was developed to investigate the effects of the amount of rainfall and lateral flow on induced slope failures. The Richard’s equation was used to evaluate pore water pressure distribution in response to moisture content variations induced by rainfall and infiltration in soil mass. The slope stability was then assessed using the limit equilibrium method of slices, and the moment equilibrium was considered. Several hypothetical cases involving various rainfall amounts and durations were simulated using the proposed model to investigate the possible tendency toward slope instability caused by rainfall time-series processes. After the rainfall conditions were analyzed, rainfall patterns were categorized as uniform, intermediate, advanced, and delayed types. Furthermore, the lateral flows running through the upstream and downstream boundaries of a slope were analyzed to investigate the lateral effects on the hillslope. The results indicated that the lateral flow may increase or reduce the groundwater table and, thus, accelerate or reduce the occurrence of slope failure. In addition, several rainfall threshold curves that accounted for the rainfall amounts, durations, and patterns were developed and appeared more realistic and to approximate real conditions more accurately than those created using one-dimensional landslide modeling do.
