Background: In the transition to a professional learning environment, healthcare professionals in their first year of specialized postgraduate clinical training (known as residents in Spain) are suddenly required to handle confidential information with little or no prior training in the safe and appropriate use of digital media with respect to confidentiality issues. The aims of this study were: (1) to explore the usefulness of an advanced clinical simulation program for educating residents from different healthcare disciplines about confidentiality and the dissemination of clinical data or patient images; (2) to explore the use of social networks in healthcare settings; and (3) to explore participants’ knowledge and attitudes on current regulations regarding confidentiality, image dissemination, and the use of social networks; Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. Data were collected from all 49 first-year residents of different health professions at a Spanish hospital between June and August 2022. High-fidelity clinical simulation sessions designed to address confidentiality and health information dissemination issues in hospital settings, including the use of social networks, were developed and implemented. Data were assessed using a 12-item ad hoc questionnaire on confidentiality and the use of social media in the healthcare setting. Descriptive of general data and chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test were performed using the SPSS 25.0 software; Results: All the participants reported using the messaging application WhatsApp regularly during their working day. A total of 20.4% of the participants stated that they had taken photos of clinical data (radiographs, analyses, etc.) without permission, with 40.8% claiming that they were unaware of the legal consequences of improper access to clinical records. After the course, the participants reported intending to modify their behavior when sharing patient data without their consent and with respect to how patients are informed; Conclusions: The use of advanced simulation in the training of interprofessional teams of residents is as an effective tool for initiating attitudinal change and increasing knowledge related to patient privacy and confidentiality. Further follow-up studies are needed to see how these attitudes are incorporated into clinical practice.

Background and Objectives: In the context of palliative care, the aim is to alleviate suffering and improve quality of life, with particular attention to PUs, which have a significant impact on quality of life and survival. This study examines the relationship between perilesional skin condition and survival in terminally ill patients with pressure ulcers (PUs). Materials and Methods: A descriptive and observational study was conducted in two hospitals in Valencia with a sample of 100 terminally ill patients. Sociodemographic, clinical and PPU-specific variables were assessed using validated scales such as FEDPALLA-II and the Barthel Index. Results: Although it is a study of an observational nature, which may preclude establishing causality, the results showed that functional capacity, perilesional tissue epithelialization, and albumin levels were significant predictors of survival, while the number and location of PUs had no direct impact. Perilesional tissue epithelialization was highlighted as a critical indicator reflecting the systemic stability of the patient. Conclusions: The study highlights the importance of a comprehensive approach to palliative care that addresses both the local aspects of the lesions and the patient’s systemic and functional status. These findings support the implementation of therapeutic interventions based on a structured perilesional tissue assessment to improve quality of life and prolong survival in terminally ill patients. In addition, a positive correlation was found between Barthel Score and survival, suggesting that patients with greater functional independence have a longer life expectancy. On the other hand, the negative correlation between total lymphocyte count and survival suggests that lymphocytopenia may be a marker of adaptive immunosuppression. Perilesional tissue epithelialization, overall functionality and serum albumin levels are key factors in predicting survival, highlighting the need for a comprehensive palliative care approach to optimize quality of life and prolong survival in terminally ill patients with PUs.

Background/Objectives: Being a healthcare professional often involves exposure to complex situations that can contribute to the development of psychological problems. Evidence suggests that both mental and physical health are crucial for the well-being of these professionals, which in turn influences the quality of care they provide to patients. The main aim of this study was to examine the association between adaptive and maladaptive forms of humor and psychopathological disorders among healthcare workers. Methods: A cross-sectional and descriptive correlational design was employed. The participants consisted of 250 healthcare professionals at a general hospital. Humor styles and the presence of psychological and psychosomatic symptoms were assessed. Data were collected using the Humor Styles Questionnaire (HSQ), the Short Checklist of Symptoms (LSB-50), and sociodemographic information. Spearman correlation analysis and linear regression analysis were conducted. Results: Healthcare professionals were more inclined to use affiliative and self-enhancing humor styles compared to self-defeating and aggressive humor. Affiliative and self-enhancing humor styles were negatively correlated with psychological symptoms, whereas aggressive humor and, to a lesser extent, self-defeating humor styles showed a significantly positive correlation with most psychological symptoms. Regression analysis revealed that positive humor styles negatively predicted all severity indices of the LSB-50. In contrast, negative humor styles, particularly self-defeating humor, positively predicted the severity indices. Being female, working night shifts, and having temporary contracts were positive predictors of most global indices of the LSB-50. Conclusions: This study highlights the importance of considering different types of humor as a potential strategy for improving the mental health of healthcare professionals, as well as the influence of other independent variables related to their personal and work environment. Positive humor styles, specifically affiliative and self-enhancing humor, are associated with a lower prevalence of psychological symptoms among healthcare professionals. Negative humor styles are correlated with a higher prevalence of these symptoms.

The aim of this study was to investigate the suitability of Pressurized Liquid Extraction (PLE) and Supercritical Fluid Extraction (SFE) for Quercus robur bark and Artemisia vulgaris extraction. PLE of Q. robur and A. vulgaris were carried out at different temperatures with water, ethanol and several hydroalcoholic mixtures. SFE of A. vulgaris was performed at different pressures and ethanol concentrations. The anti-inflammatory activity of Q. robur extracts, the antibacterial activity of A. vulgaris extracts and the antioxidant activity of the extracts from both materials were determined. The highest phenolic compound content and antioxidant activity of Q. robur extracts were achieved with water at 100 °C (487.97 mg GAE/g and 3741 µg trolox/g). The highest values for A. vulgaris extracts were obtained with ethanol at 200 °C (149.16 mg/g and 437.13 µmol/g). The ethanolic extract at 150 °C from A. vulgaris had a noticeable anti-inflammatory activity (inhibition of TNF-α and IL-6 secretion near basal values and inhibition of IL-1β higher than 80% at 20 µg/mL). A. vulgaris extracts obtained by SFE exerted antibacterial activity against E. coli (IC50 of 1388 µg/mL with neat SCCO2 at 15 MPa) and S. aureus (1406 µg/mL using SCCO2 with 10% ethanol).

To enhance athletic performance and reduce the risk of injury, load quantification has allowed for a better understanding of the individual characteristics of the physical demands on soccer players during training or competition. In this regard, it appears crucial to summarize scientific evidence to provide useful information and future directions related to the speed and acceleration profiles of male soccer players. This review aims to evaluate the findings reflected in the available literature on both profiles in football, synthesizing and discussing data from scientific articles, while providing insights into quantification methods, employed thresholds, tracking systems, terminology, playing position, and microcycle day. Therefore, it is hoped that this narrative review can support objective decision-making in practice for coaches, sports scientists, and medical teams regarding individualized load management and the appropriate selection of metrics, to explore current trends in soccer player profiles.

Background/Objectives: Childhood obesity is a multifactorial chronic disease that represents one of the main preventable causes of morbidity and mortality. This study analyzes how nutritional beliefs influence eating habits and the prevalence of overweight and obesity in Spanish children and adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 35 educational centers in 12 Spanish provinces, with a sample of 1131 children and adolescents aged 6 to 14 years. Anthropometric and sociodemographic data were collected, and dietary habits were assessed by means of questionnaires. Statistical analyses were used to identify associations between dietary beliefs and body mass index. Results: In total, 29.5% of participants were overweight or obese. Two groups of beliefs were identified: healthier beliefs and less healthy beliefs. Children with less healthy dietary beliefs had a significantly higher BMI (22.16 kg/m2) compared to those with healthier beliefs (17.2 kg/m2). False nutritional beliefs, influenced by advertising and the family environment, contribute to overweight and obesity. Discussion: Dietary beliefs play a crucial role in determining eating habits and, therefore, the health of children. Nutrition education and public policies that promote healthy eating habits are essential to prevent childhood obesity. It is important to involve the family, the school, and the media in these efforts. Conclusions: Despite efforts, many children continue to hold erroneous nutritional beliefs that contribute to the rise in overweight and obesity. This study highlights the importance of addressing dietary beliefs and promoting appropriate nutrition education to prevent childhood obesity. It is recommended to implement educational strategies and public policies that regulate the advertising of unhealthy foods and promote healthy eating habits.

Background: Evaluating the effectiveness and survival rates of space maintainers is crucial for optimal pediatric dental care. The present study’s goal is to evaluate the survival rate of different types of space maintainers—removable, fixed with a metal base, or fixed with a resin base—indicated for children as a consequence of premature loss of primary teeth. Methods: A systematic review was conducted in accordance with PRISMA recommendations and was previously registered in PROSPERO under registration number: CRD42024534183. The search was performed in five different databases PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, Cochrane, and Web of Science. This was supplemented by a manual database search. From the initial electronic search of the five databases, 72 articles were identified after removing duplicates. After reading the titles and abstracts, 46 articles were excluded, leaving a total of 26 studies. Upon reading the full texts, 15 were excluded for not meeting the inclusion criteria, resulting in a total of 11 articles included in the systematic review. Results: The total number of patients treated in the studies was 479, with four observational studies and seven randomized clinical trials. Fixed space maintainers, such as band and loop (BL) or lingual arch (LA), are preferred due to their long-term stability and lower risk of loss. In contrast, removable maintainers, such as Hawley plates, are suitable temporarily but require more patient cooperation and may be less tolerated. Conclusions: Space maintainers help prevent the migration of adjacent teeth and the need for more invasive orthodontic treatments in the future. Additionally, they contribute to adequate masticatory function and speech development.

The poplar bark beetle Trypophloeus binodulus (Coleoptera: Scolytidae) is a key pest of poplar trees (Malpighiales: Salicaceae, genus Populus) across northern Spain. However, among the more than 200 poplar clones available on the market, the clone USA 184-411 has the highest susceptibility to T. binodulus attacks. We tested the hypothesis that compounds released by the most susceptible poplar clone chemically mediate Trypophloeus binodulus behavior. The leaf and bark volatile chemical profile composition of host poplar Populus nigra L. (Salicaceae) clones were analyzed and tested on adult T. binodulus by electroantennography (EAG) and by monitoring their populations in baited traps in northern Spain. The collection of volatiles released by the leaves and bark of both clones by SPME revealed the emission of 53 components from different chemical classes. Salicylaldehyde dominated these collections of leaf volatiles and was more abundant in aerations of the more susceptible poplar clone (USA 184-411). The EAG response of adult beetles to salicylaldehyde was higher than that of any other plant odorants. In field trials, traps baited with salicylaldehyde + ethanol significantly captured more adults than all other treatments, irrespective of other lure components. The present study could aid in developing semiochemical-based management tactics against this important pest.

Understanding macroalgal bloom development is crucial for managing eutrophication and protecting estuarine ecosystems. In this study, brown macroalgal blooms (i.e., golden tides) were identified in a potentially eutrophic temperate estuary (NW Ireland). Pylaiella littoralis (Phaeophyceae, Ectocarpales) was monitored at low tide over seven sampling occasions between June 2016 and August 2017. In situ biomass, tissue nutrients (nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P)), and isotopic signature (δ15N contents) were measured, and relations with environmental drivers were explored. Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) values from Sentinel-2 satellite imagery were used to assess the spatiotemporal dynamics of P. littoralis biomass (2016–2022). The results indicated that NDVI attributed to golden tides were lowest in 2022, during summer (coinciding with high temperatures and high rainfall) and at the lower shore on the right margin of an entering river. The highest tissue P content was recorded in April 2017, coinciding with in situ biomass peaks (spring–early summer), suggesting elevated P demand. Tissue N content (>2%) and N:P ratios (10–30) indicated occasional P limitation but no N limitation. δ15N data were very low and it was not possible to identify any primary N source. These findings highlight the importance of nutrient management in mitigating golden tides, addressing eutrophication, and preserving estuarine ecosystems.

Background/Objectives: Endocrine disruptors are substances capable of altering the functions of the endocrine system. There is evidence that some pesticides can be endocrine disruptors and, among some of their effects, we find alterations in pubertal development and in the function of the thyroid gland, which could be related to a greater tendency of obesity. The aim was to evaluate the evidence from clinical and preclinical studies on the association between pesticides used in agriculture and found in plant-based foods with overweight/obesity. Methods: This is a systematic review of articles on the impact of the use of endocrine disrupting pesticides on obesity, conducted according to the PRISMA-2020 guidelines. Results: There was evidence that some pesticides, such as chlorpyrifos, pyrethroids, and neonicotinoids, may promote obesity and other anthropometric changes by altering lipid and glucose metabolism, modifying genes, or altering hormone levels such as leptin. Other studies suggest that perinatal exposure to chlorpyrifos or pesticides such as vinclozolin may alter lipid metabolism and promote weight gain in adulthood, whereas other pesticides such as boscalib, captan, thiacloprid, and ziram were not associated with changes in weight. Exposure to pesticides such as vinclozolin may be associated with a higher prevalence of overweight/obesity in later generations. Conclusions: The few studies that do not show these associations have methodological limitations in data collection with confounding variables. Further studies are needed to provide more and higher quality evidence to determine the true effect of these substances on obesity.

Background: One of the ongoing challenges in freight transport operations is to balance efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability through the integration of sustainable practices to minimize the environmental impact. When it comes to truck payload and sustainability, the emphasis is on optimizing space, and minimizing empty miles and the wastage of resources. Ensuring that truck loads meet their targets has many challenges, and our empirical research examines the factors influencing the payloads of recycled fibre across the network in the UK paper industry. Methods: A mixed method approach includes interviews, business process analysis, the identification of opportunity areas, a site visit, simulation, and viability analysis to assess factors as part of the sustainable solution. Results: The research identified aspects related to processes, data availability and fragmentation, consistent procedures, practices, and operational considerations. Refining cage-loading procedures, enhancing baling processes and the visibility of upstream processes, and establishing robust information-sharing mechanisms improve efficiency and support sustainability. Conclusions: The empirical research extends the knowledge related to freight efficiency movements on the road and focuses on practical actions in utilizing recycled fibre’s carrying capacity.
