We investigated the influence of mental imagery expertise in 15 pen and paper role-players as an expert group compared to the gender-matched control group of computer role-players in the difficult Vandenberg and Kuse mental rotation task. In this task, the participants have to decide which two of four rotated figures match the target figure. The dependent measures were performance speed and accuracy. In our exploratory investigation, we further examined midline frontal theta band activation, parietal alpha band activation, and parietal alpha band asymmetry in EEG as indicator for the chosen rotation strategy. Additionally, we explored the gender influence on performance and EEG activation, although a very small female sample section was given. The expected gender difference concerning performance accuracy was negated by expertise in pen and paper role-playing women, while the gender-specific difference in performance speed was preserved. Moreover, gender differences concerning electro-cortical measures revealed differences in rotation strategy, with women using top-down strategies compared to men, who were using top-down strategies and active inhibition of associative cortical areas. These strategy uses were further moderated by expertise, with higher expertise leading to more pronounced activation patters, especially during successful performance. However, due to the very limited sample size, the findings of this explorative study have to be interpreted cautiously.

The International Institute of Knowledge Innovation and Invention (IIKII) is an institute that promotes the exchange of innovations and inventions, and establishes a communication platform for international innovations and researches. In 2019, IIKII cooperated with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Tainan Section Sensors Council to hold IEEE conferences such as IEEE ICIASE 2019, IEEE ECBIOS 2019, IEEE ICKII 2019, ICUSA-GAME 2019, and IEEE ECICE 2019. This Special Issue entitled “Selected Papers from IIKII 2019 conferences” aims to select excellent papers from IIKII 2019 conferences, including symmetry in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and computer science, etc. It selected 21 excellent papers from 750 papers presented in IIKII 2019 conferences on the topic of symmetry. The main goals of this Special Issue are to encourage scientists to publish their experimental and theoretical results in as much detail as possible, and to discover new scientific knowledge relevant to the topic of symmetry.

This comment is devoted to the paper “Lie Symmetry Analysis, Explicit Solutions, and Conservation Laws of a Spatially Two-Dimensional Burgers–Huxley Equation” (Symmery, 2020, vol.12, 170), in which several results are either incorrect, or incomplete, or misleading.

In order to recognize outstanding papers that have been published in Symmetry, the Editorial Board established an annual “Symmetry Best Paper Award”. We are pleased to announce the first “Symmetry Best Paper Award” for 2015. Nominations were selected by the Editorial Board Office, with all research articles published in 2013 and 2014 eligible for consideration. The class of log-elliptical distributions is well used and studied in risk measurement and actuarial science. The reason is that risks are often skewed and positive when they describe pure risks, i.e., risks in which there is no possibility of profit. In practice, risk managers confront a system of mutually dependent risks, not only one risk. Thus, it is important to measure risks while capturing their dependence structure. In this short paper, we compute the multivariate risk measures, multivariate tail conditional expectation, and multivariate tail covariance measure for the family of log-elliptical distributions, which captures the dependence structure of the risks while focusing on the tail of their distributions, i.e., on extreme loss events. We then study our result and examine special cases, as well as the optimal portfolio selection using such measures. Finally, we show how the given multivariate tail moments can also be computed for log-skew elliptical models based on similar approaches given for the log-elliptical case.

Recently, various types of single valued neutrosophic (SVN) rough set models were presented based on the same inclusion relation. However, there is another SVN inclusion relation in SVN sets. In this paper, we propose a new type of SVN covering rough set model based on the new inclusion relation. Furthermore, the graph and matrix representations of the new SVN covering approximation operators are presented. Firstly, the notion of SVN β 2 -covering approximation space is proposed, which is decided by the new inclusion relation. Then, a type of SVN covering rough set model under the SVN β 2 -covering approximation space is presented. Moreover, there is a corresponding SVN relation rough set model based on a SVN relation induced by the SVN β 2 -covering, and two conditions under which the SVN β 2 -covering can induce a symmetric SVN relation are presented. Thirdly, the graph and matrix representations of the new SVN covering rough set model are investigated. Finally, we propose a novel method for decision making (DM) problems in paper defect diagnosis under the new SVN covering rough set model.

Resident combustion of solid fuel has been widely acknowledged as a high potential for pollutant reduction. However, there is a marked asymmetry between more pollutant emission and less burned volatiles of biomass and coal in the combustion process. To study the solid fuel optimum combustion form in a household stove, both the pollution reduction and energy efficient utilization of crop straws and coals were investigated. Taking the molding pressure and clay addition ratio as variable process conditions, the research of bio-coal briquette (made from the mixture of anthracite and biomass) was implemented in the range of 15~35 MP and 5~15%, respectively. Biomass and coal work complementarily for each other’s combustion property development. In particular, the pyrolysis gas produced by biomass low-temperature devolatilization is featured with low ignition point and is distributed in the bio-coal briquette. Its own combustion provides energy for anthracite particle combustion. Consequently, a positive effect was identified when bio-coal briquettes were used as residential fuel, and further improvement manifested in reducing more than 90% of particle matter (PM) and achieving about twice the thermal efficiencies (TEs) compared with the mass-weighted average values of coal briquettes and biomass briquettes. 88.8 ± 11.8%, 136.7 ± 13.7% and 81.4 ± 17.7% more TEs were provided by wheat straw–coal briquettes, rice straw–coal briquettes and maize straw–coal briquettes. 93.3 ± 3.1% (wheat straw–coal), 97.6 ± 0.2% (rice straw–coal) and 90.4 ± 2.2% (maize straw–coal) in terms of PM2.5 emission factors (EFs) was reduced. For bio-coal briquette, a 25 MPa and 10% addition were determined as the optimum molding pressure and clay addition ratio. Bio-coal briquettes with higher TEs and lower PM EFs will bring about substantial benefits for air quality promotion, human health and energy saving.

Microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and microalgae have been used to produce bioflocculants with various structures. These polymers are active substances that are biodegradable, environmentally harmless, and have flocculation characteristics. Most of the developed microbial bioflocculants displayed significant flocculating activity (FA > 70–90%) depending on the strain used and on the operating parameters. These biopolymers have been investigated and successfully used for wastewater depollution in the laboratory. In various cases, selected efficient microbial flocculants could reduce significantly suspended solids (SS), turbidity, chemical oxygen demand (COD), total nitrogen (Nt), dye, and heavy metals, with removal percentages exceeding 90% depending on the bioflocculating materials and on the wastewater characteristics. Moreover, bioflocculants showed acceptable results for sludge conditioning (accepted levels of dry solids, specific resistance to filtration, moisture, etc.) compared to chemicals. This paper explores various bioflocculants produced by numerous microbial strains. Their production procedures and flocculating performance will be included. Furthermore, their efficiency in the depollution of wastewater will be discussed.

We present three types of polyhedral surfaces, which are continuously flexible and have not only an initial pose, where all faces are coplanar, but pass during their self-motion through another pose with coplanar faces (“flat pose”). These surfaces are examples of so-called rigid origami, since we only admit exact flexions, i.e., each face remains rigid during the motion, only the dihedral angles vary. We analyze the geometry behind Miura-ori and address Kokotsakis’ example of a flexible tessellation with the particular case of a cyclic quadrangle. Finally, we recall Bricard’s octahedra of Type 3 and their relation to strophoids.

Over the past four decades, the prophecy from computer pundits and prognosticators pointed to the looming arrival of the paperless office era. However, forty years later, physical paper documents are still playing a significant role due to the ease of use, superior readability, and availability. The drawbacks of paper sheets are that they are hard to modify and retrieve, have limited space, and are environmentally unfriendly. Augmenting paper documents with digital information from mobile devices extends the two-dimensional space of physical paper documents. Various camera-based recognition and detection devices have been proposed to augment paper documents with digital information. However, there are still some limitations that exist in these systems. This paper presents a novel, low cost, spatially aware, mobile system called Ultrasonic PhoneLens. The Ultrasonic PhoneLens adopts two-dimensional dynamic image presentation and ultrasonic sound positioning techniques. It consists of two ultrasonic sound sensors, one Arduino mini-controller board, and one android mobile device. Based on the location of the mobile device over the physical paper, Ultrasonic PhoneLens can retrieve pre-saved digital information from a mobile database for the object (such as a text, a paragraph, or an image) in a paper document. An empirical study was conducted to evaluate the system performance. The results indicate that our system has a better performance in tasks such as browsing multivalent documents and sharing digital information than the Wiimote PhoneLens system.

LetN be the class of functions that convex in one direction and M denote the class of functions zf′(z), where f∈N. In the paper, the third-order Hankel determinants for these classes are estimated. The estimates of H3,1(f) obtained in the paper are improved.

This paper discusses high-baryon-density quarkyonic matter in the context of recent observations concerning neutron stars and the qualitative reasons why quarkyonic matter explains certain features of the equation of state that arises from these observations. The paper then provides a qualitative discussion of the quarkyonic hypotheses, and the essential features of quarkyonic matter that explain the outstanding features of the equation of state.

Aimed at the difficulty of path planning resulting from the variable configuration of the wheel-legged robot for future deep space explorations, this paper proposes a path planning algorithm based on the Theta* algorithm and Timed Elastic Band (TEB) algorithm. Firstly, the structure of the wheel-legged robot is briefly introduced, and the workspace of a single leg is analyzed. Secondly, a method to judge complete obstacles and incomplete obstacles according to the height of the obstacles is proposed alongside a method to search for virtual obstacles, to generate a grid map of the wheel and a grid map of the body, respectively. By dividing obstacles into complete obstacles and incomplete obstacles, the path planning of the wheel-legged robot is split into the planning of the body path and the planning of the wheel path. The body can be still simplified as a point by searching for the virtual obstacle, which avoids the difficulty of a planning path of a variable shape. Then, we proposed hierarchical planning and multiple optimization algorithms for the body path and wheel path based on the Theta* algorithm and TEB algorithm. The path can be optimized and smoothed effectively to obtain a shorter length and higher safety. On that basis, the proposed algorithm is simulated by Matlab. The results of simulations show that the algorithm proposed in this paper can effectively plan the path of the wheel-legged robot by using variable configurations for different types of obstacles. The path-planning algorithm of the wheel-legged robot proposed in this paper has a broad prospect for deep space exploration.

In 2006, together with D. Butnariu, we showed that if all iterates of a nonexpansive self-mapping of a complete metric space converge, then all its inexact iterates with summable computational errors converge too. In a recent paper of ours, we have extended this result to uniformly locally nonexpansive self-mappings of a complete metric space. In the present paper, we establish analogous results for uniformly locally nonexpansive mappings which take a nonempty closed subset of a complete metric space into the space. In the particular case of a Banach space, if the operator is symmetric, then the set of all limit points of its iterates is also symmetric.

This paper aims to solve the asymmetric problem of sample classification recognition in extreme class imbalance. Inspired by Krawczyk (2016)’s improvement direction of extreme sample imbalance classification, this paper adopts the AdaBoost model framework to optimize the sample weight update function in each iteration. This weight update not only takes into account the sampling weights of misclassified samples, but also pays more attention to the classification effect of misclassified minority sample classes. Thus, it makes the model more adaptable to imbalanced sample class distribution and the situation of extreme imbalance and make the weight adjustment in hard classification samples more adaptive as well as to generate a symmetry between the minority and majority samples in the imbalanced datasets by adjusting class distribution of the datasets. Based on this, the imbalance boosting model, the Imbalance AdaBoost (ImAdaBoost) model is constructed. In the experimental design stage, ImAdaBoost model is compared with the original model and the mainstream imbalance classification model based on imbalanced datasets with different ratio, including extreme imbalanced dataset. The results show that the ImAdaBoost model has good minority class recognition recall ability in the weakly extreme and general class imbalance sets. In addition, the average recall rate of minority class of the mainstream imbalance classification models is 7% lower than that of ImAdaBoost model in the weakly extreme imbalance set. The ImAdaBoost model ensures that the recall rate of the minority class is at the middle level of the comparison model, and the F1-score comprehensive index performs well, demonstrating the strong stability of the minority class classification in extreme imbalanced dataset.

The Rafflesia Optimization Algorithm (ROA) is a new swarm intelligence optimization algorithm inspired by Rafflesia’s biological laws. It has the advantages of high efficiency and fast convergence speed, and it effectively avoids falling into local optimum. It has been used in logistics distribution center location problems, and its superiority has been demonstrated. It is applied to solve the problem of continuity, but there are many binary problems to be solved in the actual situation. Thus, we designed a binary version of ROA. We used transfer functions to change continuous values into binary values, and binary values are used to symmetrically represent the meaning of physical problems. In this paper, four transfer functions are implemented to binarize ROA so as to improve the original transfer function for the overall performance of the algorithm. In addition, on the basis of the algorithm, we further improve the algorithm by adopting a parallel strategy, which improves the convergence speed and global exploration ability of the algorithm. The algorithm is verified on 23 benchmark functions, and the parallel binary ROA has a better performance than some other existing algorithms. In the aspect of the application, this paper adopts the datasets on UCI for feature selection. The improved algorithm has higher accuracy and selects fewer features.

Environmental sound classification (ESC) tasks are attracting more and more attention. Due to the complexity of the scene and personnel mobility, there are some difficulties in understanding and generating environmental sound models for ESC tasks. To address these key issues, this paper proposes an audio classification framework based on L-mHP features and the SE-ResNet50 model and improves a dual-channel data enhancement scheme based on a symmetric structure for model training. Firstly, this paper proposes the L-mHP feature to characterize environmental sound. The L-mHP feature is a three-channel feature consisting of a Log-Mel spectrogram, a harmonic spectrogram, and a percussive spectrogram. The harmonic spectrogram and percussive spectrogram can be obtained by harmonic percussive source separation (HPSS) of a Log-Mel spectrogram. Then, an improved audio classification model SE-ResNet50 is proposed based on the ResNet-50 model. In this paper, a dual-channel data enhancement scheme based on a symmetric structure is promoted, which not only makes the audio variants more diversified, but also makes the model focus on learning the time–frequency mode in the acoustic features during the training process, so as to improve the generalization performance of the model. Finally, the audio classification experiment of the framework is carried out on public datasets. An experimental accuracy of 94.92%, 99.67%, and 90.75% was obtained on ESC-50, ESC-10 and UrbanSound8K datasest, respectively. In order to simulate the classification performance of the framework in the actual environment, the framework was also evaluated on a self-made sound dataset with different signal-to-noise ratios. The experimental results show that the proposed audio classification framework has good robustness and feasibility.

Using higher order delta derivatives on time scales, we demonstrated a few dynamic inequalities of the Opial type in this paper. Our findings expanded upon and generalised earlier findings in the literature. Furthermore, we give the discrete and continuous inequalities as special cases. At the end of this paper, we apply our results to study the behaviour of the solution of an initial value problem. In selecting the best ways to solve dynamic inequalities, symmetry is crucial.

Long series time forecasting has become a popular research direction in recent years, due to the ability to predict weather changes, traffic conditions and so on. This paper provides a comprehensive discussion of long series time forecasting techniques and their applications, using the Informer algorithm model as a framework. Specifically, we examine sequential time prediction models published in the last two years, including the tightly coupled convolutional transformer (TCCT) algorithm, Autoformer algorithm, FEDformer algorithm, Pyraformer algorithm, and Triformer algorithm. Researchers have made significant improvements to the attention mechanism and Informer algorithm model architecture in these different neural network models, resulting in recent approaches such as wavelet enhancement structure, auto-correlation mechanism, and depth decomposition architecture. In addition to the above, attention algorithms and many models show potential and possibility in mechanical vibration prediction. In recent state-of-the-art studies, researchers have used the Informer algorithm model as an experimental control, and it can be seen that the algorithm model itself has research value. The informer algorithm model performs relatively well on various data sets and has become a more typical algorithm model for time series forecasting, and its model value is worthy of in-depth exploration and research. This paper discusses the structures and innovations of five representative models, including Informer, and reviews the performance of different neural network structures. The advantages and disadvantages of each model are discussed and compared, and finally, the future research direction of long series time forecasting is discussed.

In recent years, searchable encryption technology and attribute encryption technology have been widely used in cloud storage environments, and attribute-based searchable encryption schemes can both achieve the retrieval of encrypted data and effectively solve the access control problem. Considering that existing attribute-based searchable encryption schemes for cloud storage only support keyword search and do not support attribute revocation, most of the schemes that support attribute revocation only consider the computational overhead of users and ignore the large amount of computational resources consumed by attribute authorization centers when updating keys. In addition, keyword search may lead to partial errors in the returned search results, leading to the wastage of computational and broadband resources. To solve these issues, this paper proposes an attribute-based searchable encryption scheme that supports attribute revocation and is verifiable. To realize fine-grained ciphertext search of encrypted data, support scenarios of dynamic changes of user attributes, and ensure that third-party servers perform the search process reliably and honestly while minimizing computation and storage costs, first, this paper implements attribute revocation with the attribute authorization center by creating a user revocation list and an attribute key revocation list. At the same time, the system updates the attribute key at the time of user search request, which effectively reduces the computational overhead. Second, a third-party auditor is introduced to ensure the correctness of the search results. Finally, the security of this paper is verified by theoretical analysis, and the efficiency and practicality of this paper are verified by comparing it to other schemes through simulation experiments.

This paper addresses how to use high-order diffusion to restore the wavelet coefficients in the wavelet domain. To avoid image distortion, wavelets with symmetry are used for image decomposition to obtain the wavelet coefficients of each sub-band. Due to the influence of noise, it is particularly important to obtain the wavelet coefficients, which can accurately reflect the image information. According to the characteristics of wavelet threshold shrinkage and the advantages of the high-order variational method in denoising, a wavelet coefficient restoration scheme is proposed. The theoretical basis of our proposed method is established through the analysis of wavelet threshold theory. To keep the original structure of wavelet coefficients unchanged, we introduce the concept of state quantity of wavelet coefficients and obtain the corresponding state quantity of wavelet coefficients using normalization. The denoising wavelet coefficient is obtained by performing a fourth-order anisotropic diffusion of the state quantities. This paper takes image edge feature extraction as the experimental content and image edges are detected by the module of the wavelet coefficients. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is objectively verified from three aspects: denoising effect, edge continuity, and accuracy. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can obtain continuous and precise image edges. The algorithm presented in this paper also applies to texture images. Compared with other algorithms, the edges image obtained by this scheme shows advantages in terms of noise removal and edge protection.

In practical applications, the basic fuzzy set is used via symmetric uncertainty variables. In the research field, it is comparatively rare to discuss two-fold uncertainty due to its complication. To deal with the multi-polar uncertainty in real life problems, m-polar (multi-polar) fuzzy (m-PF) sets are put forward. The main objective of this paper is to explore the idea of m-PF sets, which is a generalization of bipolar fuzzy (BPF) sets, in ternary semirings. The major aspects and novel distinctions of this work are that it builds any multi-person, multi-period, multi-criteria, and complex hierarchical problems. The main focus of this study is to confine generalization of some important results of BPF sets to the results of m-PF sets. In this research, the notions of m-polar fuzzy ternary subsemiring (m-PFSS), m-polar fuzzy ideal (m-PFI), m-polar fuzzy generalized bi-ideal (m-PFGBI), m-polar fuzzy bi-ideal (m-PFBI), and m-polar fuzzy quasi-ideal (m-PFQI) in ternary semirings are introduced. Moreover, this paper deals with several important properties of m-PFIs and characterizes regular and intra-regular ternary semiring in terms of these ideals.

In this paper, we propose three real representations of a generalized Segre quaternion matrix. We establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the η-anti-Hermitian solution to a system of constrained matrix equations over the generalized Segre quaternion algebra. We also obtain the expression of the general η-anti-Hermitian solution to the system when it is solvable. Finally, we provide a numerical example to verify the main results of this paper.

Traffic congestion is a serious challenge in urban areas. So, to address this challenge, the intelligent traffic management system (ITMS) is used to manage traffic on road networks. Managing traffic helps to focus on environmental impacts as well as emergency situations. However, the ITMS system has many challenges in analyzing scenes of complex traffic. New technologies such as computer vision (CV) and artificial intelligence (AI) are being used to solve these challenges. As a result, these technologies have made a distinct identity in the surveillance industry, particularly when it comes to keeping a constant eye on traffic scenes. There are many vehicle attributes and existing approaches that are being used in the development of ITMS, along with imaging technologies. In this paper, we reviewed the ITMS-based components that describe existing imaging technologies and existing approaches on the basis of their need for developing ITMS. The first component describes the traffic scene and imaging technologies. The second component talks about vehicle attributes and their utilization in existing vehicle-based approaches. The third component explains the vehicle’s behavior on the basis of the second component’s outcome. The fourth component explains how traffic-related applications can assist in the management and monitoring of traffic flow, as well as in the reduction of congestion and the enhancement of road safety. The fifth component describes the different types of ITMS applications. The sixth component discusses the existing methods of traffic signal control systems (TSCSs). Aside from these components, we also discuss existing vehicle-related tools such as simulators that work to create realistic traffic scenes. In the last section named discussion, we discuss the future development of ITMS and draw some conclusions. The main objective of this paper is to discuss the possible solutions to different problems during the development of ITMS in one place, with the help of components that would play an important role for an ITMS developer to achieve the goal of developing efficient ITMS.

Mass, energy, and momentum transfer processes between fluid-saturated porous media and the adjacent free flow occur in many natural and technical systems. The flow dynamics in the porous region and the adjacent free flow is strongly controlled by the mechanisms at the common interface and conditions on the outer surface of the free-flow. The present paper considers unsteady axisymmetric flows of viscous fluids through an annular domain with a porous layer covering a cylindrical solid core. Fluid flow in the domain filled with porous material and in transparent domain is described by Brinkman model and Navier Stokes equations, respectively. Analytical solutions for the dimensionless velocity fields in the Laplace domain are determined using Bessel functions, Laplace transform, and the appropriate interface and boundary conditions. The inversion of the Laplace transforms is done with the help of a numerical algorithm. In addition, the hydrodynamic permeability is determined. The dependence of the dimensionless velocity fields and of hydrodynamic permeability on characteristic parameters of the porous layer is numerically and graphically discussed. Since the velocity on the outer surface is given by an arbitrary function of time, the results in this paper could be used to study various filtration problems.

Various scholars have lately employed a wide range of strategies to resolve specific types of symmetrical fractional differential equations. This paper introduces a new implicit finite difference method with variable-order time-fractional Caputo derivative to solve semi-linear initial boundary value problems. Despite its extensive use in other areas, fractional calculus has only recently been applied to physics. This paper aims to find a solution for the fractional diffusion equation using an implicit finite difference scheme, and the results are displayed graphically using MATLAB and the Fourier technique to assess stability. The findings show the unconditional stability of the implicit time-fractional finite difference method. This method employs a variable-order fractional derivative of time, enabling greater flexibility and the ability to tackle more complicated problems.

In this paper, the control of robotic manipulators (RMs) is studied. The RMs are widely used in industry. The RMs are multi-input-multi-output systems, and their dynamics are highly nonlinear. To improve the accuracy in practice, it is impossible to ignore the influence of nonlinear dynamics and the interaction of inputs–outputs. Non-structural uncertainties such as friction, disturbance, and unmodeled dynamics are other challenges of these systems. Recently, type-3 (T3) fuzzy logic systems (FLSs) have been suggested that result in better accuracy in a noisy environment. In this paper, a new control idea on the basis of T3-FLSs is suggested. T3-FLSs are used to estimate the dynamics of RMs and the symmetrical perturbations. The T3-FLSs are learned using online laws to enhance the stability. To eliminate the effect of the interconnection of inputs and estimation errors, a compensator is developed. By several simulations, the superiority of the suggested controller is demonstrated.

The energy trading problem in smart grids has been of great interest. In this paper, we focus on two problems: 1. Energy sellers’ inaccurate grasp of users’ real needs causes information asymmetry in transactions, making it difficult for energy sellers to develop more satisfactory pricing strategies for users based on those real needs. 2. The uneven variation of user demand causes the grid costs to increase. In this paper, we design a collaborative pricing strategy based on the seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average-artificial neural network (Sarima-Ann) and an asymmetric Stackelberg game. Specifically, we propose a dissatisfaction function for users and an incentive function for grid companies to construct a utility function for both parties, which introduces an incentive amount to achieve better results in equilibrating user demand while optimizing the transaction utility. In addition, we constructed a demand fluctuation function based on user demand data and introduced it into the game model to predict the demand by Sarima-Ann, which achieves better prediction accuracy. Finally, through simulation experiments, we demonstrate the effectiveness of our scheme in balancing demand and improving utility, and the superiority of our Sarima-Ann model in terms of forecasting accuracy. Specifically, the peak reduction can reach 94.1% and the total transaction utility increase can reach 4.6 × 107, and better results can be achieved by adjusting the incentive rate. Our Sarima-Ann model improves accuracy by 64.95% over Arima and 64.47% over Sarima under MAE metric evaluation, and also shows superior accuracy under other metrics evaluation.

In order to meet the requirements of high performance, miniaturization, low cost, low power consumption and multi-function, three-dimensional (3D) integrated technology has gradually become a core technology. With the development of 3D integrated technology, it has been used in imaging sensors, optical integrated microsystems, inertial sensor microsystems, radio-frequency microsystems, biological microsystems and logic microsystems, etc. Through silicon via (TSV) is the core technology of a 3D integrated system, which can achieve vertical interconnection between stacked chips. In this paper, the development and progress of multi-physics simulation design for TSV-based 3D integrated systems are reviewed. Firstly, the electrical simulation design of TSV in a 3D integrated system is presented, including the lumped parameters model-based design and numerical computation model-based design. Secondly, the thermal simulation design of TSV in a 3D integrated system is presented based on the analytical model or numerical computation model. Thirdly, the multi-physics co-simulation design of TSV in a 3D integrated system is presented, including the thermal stress and electron thermal coupling simulation design. Finally, this paper is concluded, and the future perspectives of 3D integrated systems are presented, including the advanced integrated microsystems, the crossed and reconfigurable architecture design technology and the standardized and intelligent design technology.

Since the end of the 19th century, radioelectronic devices (REDs) have actively penetrated into all modern community spheres. Achievements in the fields of radio engineering and electronics, as well as computing, information, telecommunications, and other technologies, have greatly contributed to this. The main elements of REDs are antennas and microwave devices. For example, linear (wire) antennas are the basis of long-distance communication agency networks of various law enforcement agencies and departments. The manufacturing of REDs requires the regular and rapid appearance of more and more advanced types with minimal costs. At the same time, the design complexity of REDs and the tightening of EMC requirements caused by the growth of upper frequencies of useful and interfering signals, the mounting density, as well as the capabilities of generators of intentional electromagnetic impacts, together with the need to take into account inter-element, inter-unit, and inter-system interference, require more and more accurate designs of REDs. However, this becomes impossible without computer modeling, which saves the time and financial resources required for their development, as well as to evaluate the correctness of the proposed technical solutions. During the design process, as a rule, a multivariate analysis or optimization of the product is performed. In this case, methods of computational electrodynamics (one of which is the method of moments) are used. They are based on the replacement of continuous functions with their discrete analogues (construction of a grid), which reduces the problem to the solution of a system of linear algebraic equations (SLAE). The problem’s complexity depends on the complexity of the SLAE solution, which is determined by its order (which in turn is determined by the complexity of the simulated object and its surrounding area) and by the number of the required SLAE solutions for each problem (determined by the upper frequency of the signal, the number, and range of the optimized parameters). This dramatically increases the computational cost, which becomes the main constraint for the optimal design. Therefore, reducing the computational cost for the analysis and optimization of RED elements (in particular, linear antennas) is an important scientific problem. Meanwhile, finding new antenna structures that meet all the desired features (low price, required characteristics, manufacturable design with small dimensions and windage, etc.) is no less important today. One of the promise solutions for these problems is using a wire grid and sparse antennas for modeling and constructing antennas. Since the last century, a lot of research has been performed on them. The aim of this paper is to review their history and the main related aspects such as computational, acceleration, and optimization used methods, the fields of their application, and their evolution to this moment. In addition, this paper provides a possible future implementation of wire-grid and sparse antennas from the authors’ point of view by presenting a new method that is under research to obtain effective wire sparse antennas.

This paper presents a survey of advanced concepts and research perspectives, of a philosophical-mathematical approach to describe the dynamics of systems of many interacting living entities. The first part introduces the general conceptual framework. Then, a critical analysis of the existing literature is developed and referred to a multiscale view of a mathematics of living organisms. This paper attempts to understand how far the present state-of-the-art is far from the achievement of such challenging objective. The density of states of a quantum system can be calculated from its definition but, in some cases, this approach is quite cumbersome. Alternatively, the density of states can be deduced from the microcanonical entropy or from the canonical partition function. After discussing the relationship among these procedures, we suggest a simple numerical method, which is equivalent in the thermodynamic limit to perform a Legendre transformation, to obtain the density of states from the Helmholtz free energy. We apply this method to determine the many-body density of states of the unitary Fermi gas, a very dilute system of identical fermions interacting with divergent scattering length. The unitary Fermi gas is highy symmetric due to the absence of any internal scale except for the average distance between two particles and, for this reason, its equation of state is called universal. In the last part of the paper, by using the same thermodynamical techniques, we review some properties of} the density of states of a Schwarzschild black hole, which shares with the unitary Fermi gas the problem of finding the density of states directly from its definition., 10 pages, 6 figures, invited paper (short review) for the Special Issue "Cooperative Effects in Finite Systems" of the journal Symmetry (MDPI)

The Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm has become one of the most popular algorithms for estimating the direction-of-arrival (DOA) of multiple sources due to its simplicity and ease of implementation. Spherical microphone arrays can capture more sound field information than planar arrays. The collected multichannel speech signals can be transformed from the space domain to the spherical harmonic domain (SHD) for processing through spherical modal decomposition. The spherical harmonic domain MUSIC (SHD-MUSIC) algorithm reduces the dimensionality of the covariance matrix and achieves better DOA estimation performance than the conventional MUSIC algorithm. However, the SHD-MUSIC algorithm is prone to failure in low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), high reverberation time (RT), and other multi-source environments. To address these challenges, we propose a novel joint spherical harmonic domain beam-space MUSIC (SHD-BMUSIC) algorithm in this paper. The advantage of decoupling the signal frequency and angle information in the SHD is exploited to improve the anti-reverberation property of the DOA estimation. In the SHD, the broadband beamforming matrix converts the SHD sound pressure to the beam domain output. Beamforming enhances the incoming signal in the desired direction and reduces the SNR threshold as well as the dimension of the signal covariance matrix. In addition, the 3D beam of the spherical array has rotational symmetry and its beam steering is decoupled from the beam shape. Therefore, the broadband beamforming constructed in this paper allows for the arbitrary adjustment of beam steering without the need to redesign the beam shape. Both simulation experiments and practical tests are conducted to verify that the proposed SHD-BMUSIC algorithm has a more robust adjacent source discrimination capability than the SHD-MUSIC algorithm.

(1) Background: In a recent paper discussing Newton’s third law in the framework of special relativity for charged bodies, it was suggested that one can construct a practical relativistic motor provided high enough charge and current densities are available. As on the macroscopic scale charge density is limited by the phenomena of dielectric breakdown, it was suggested to take advantage of the high charge densities which are available on the microscopic scale. (2) Methods: We use standard physical theories such as Maxwell electrodynamics and quantum mechanics, supplemented by tools from vector analysis and numerics. (3) Results: We show that a hydrogen atom either in the ground state or excited state will not produce a relativistic engine effect, but by breaking the symmetry or putting the electron in a wave packet state may produce relativistic motor effect. (4) Conclusions: A highly localized wave packet will produce a strong relativistic motor effect. The preliminary analysis of the current paper suggests new promising directions of research both theoretical and experimental.

Most existing Siamese trackers mainly use a pre-trained convolutional neural network to extract target features. However, due to the weak discrimination of the target and background information of pre-trained depth features, the performance of the Siamese tracker can be significantly degraded when facing similar targets or changes in target appearance. This paper proposes a multi-channel-aware and adaptive hierarchical deep features module to enhance the discriminative ability of the tracker. Firstly, through the multi-channel-aware deep features module, the importance values of feature channels are obtained from both the target details and overall information, to identify more important feature channels. Secondly, by introducing the adaptive hierarchical deep features module, the importance of each feature layer can be determined according to the response value of each frame, so that the hierarchical features can be integrated to represent the target, which can better adapt to changes in the appearance of the target. Finally, the proposed two modules are integrated into the Siamese framework for target tracking. The Siamese network used in this paper is a two-input branch symmetric neural network with two input branches, and they share the same weights, which are widely used in the field of target tracking. Experiments on some Benchmarks show that the proposed Siamese tracker has several points of improvement compared to the baseline tracker.

Multiphoton Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) has recently been proposed to exchange the secret keys using the rotational of polarization over a multi-stage protocol. It has the ability to outperform the weaknesses of a single photon QKD by improving the generation of key rate and distance range. This paper investigates the theoretical aspects of multiphoton QKD protocol&rsquo, s performance over free space optic (FSO) networks. The most common setup for quantum communication is the single-beam approach. However, the single-beam setup has limitations in terms of high geometrical loss. In this paper, the symmetry multiple-beam for quantum communication which is called as Multiphoton Quantum Communication-Multiple Beam (MQC-MB) is proposed to transmit the multiphoton from the sender to the receiver in order to minimize the impact of geometrical loss that is faced by the single-beam setup. The analysis was carried out through mathematical analysis by establishing the FSO quantum model with the effects of atmospheric and geometrical loss as well as considering atmospheric turbulence modeled by log-normal distribution. The design criteria of FSO, such as the transmitter, receiver, beam divergence, and diameter of apertures, are analytically investigated. The numerical results demonstrate that the MQC-MB outperforms the single-beam in terms of reducing channel loss by about 8 dB and works well under strong turbulence channel. Furthermore, the MQC-MB reduces the quantum bit error rate (QBER) and improves the secret key rate (SKR) as compared to the single-beam system even though the distance between the sender and receiver increases.

Automatic segmentation of intracranial brain tumors in three-dimensional (3D) image series is critical in screening and diagnosing related diseases. However, there are various challenges in intracranial brain tumor images: (1) Multiple brain tumor categories hold particular pathological features. (2) It is a thorny issue to locate and discern brain tumors from other non-brain regions due to their complicated structure. (3) Traditional segmentation requires a noticeable difference in the brightness of the interest target relative to the background. (4) Brain tumor magnetic resonance images (MRI) have blurred boundaries, similar gray values, and low image contrast. (5) Image information details would be dropped while suppressing noise. Existing methods and algorithms do not perform satisfactorily in overcoming these obstacles mentioned above. Most of them share an inadequate accuracy in brain tumor segmentation. Considering that the image segmentation task is a symmetric process in which downsampling and upsampling are performed sequentially, this paper proposes a segmentation algorithm based on U-Net++, aiming to address the aforementioned problems. This paper uses the BraTS 2018 dataset, which contains MR images of 245 patients. We suggest the generative mask sub-network, which can generate feature maps. This paper also uses the BiCubic interpolation method for upsampling to obtain segmentation results different from U-Net++. Subsequently, pixel-weighted fusion is adopted to fuse the two segmentation results, thereby, improving the robustness and segmentation performance of the model. At the same time, we propose an auto pruning mechanism in terms of the architectural features of U-Net++ itself. This mechanism deactivates the sub-network by zeroing the input. It also automatically prunes GenU-Net++ during the inference process, increasing the inference speed and improving the network performance by preventing overfitting. Our algorithm’s PA, MIoU, P, and R are tested on the validation dataset, reaching 0.9737, 0.9745, 0.9646, and 0.9527, respectively. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed model outperformed the contrast models. Additionally, we encapsulate the model and develop a corresponding application based on the MacOS platform to make the model further applicable.

In this paper, we proposed a scheme that Injects artificial noise from the tag end (IANT) to enhance the physical layer security of the ambient backscatter communication (ABC) system. The difference between the ABC system and the traditional radio frequency identification system is whether it uses the radio frequency (RF) signals in the environment to supply energy and modulation information for passive tags. In the IANT scheme, we select the best tag to communicate with the reader according to the channel quality between tags and reader, and at the same time select another tag to generate artificial noise that affects the receiving effect of the eavesdropper. This paper uses the method of generating noise copies in the reader to reduce the interference of artificial noise on the signal received by the reader. The simulation results show that with the increase in channel quality between tags and reader and the increase in the number of tags, the proposed IANT scheme is significantly superior to the contrast scheme in terms of system achievable secrecy rate, effectively enhancing the physical layer security of the ABC system.

Refining and reversing weighted arithmetic-geometric mean inequalities have been studied in many papers. In this paper, we provide some bounds for the differences between the weighted arithmetic and geometric means, using known inequalities. We improve the results given by Furuichi-Ghaemi-Gharakhanlu and Sababheh-Choi. We also give some bounds on entropies, applying the results in a different approach. We explore certain convex or concave functions, which are symmetric functions on the axis t=1/2.

This paper investigates a relativistic Toda lattice system with an arbitrary parameter that is a very remarkable generalization of the usual Toda lattice system, which may describe the motions of particles in lattices. Firstly, we study some integrable properties for this system such as Hamiltonian structures, Liouville integrability and conservation laws. Secondly, we construct a discrete generalized (m,2N−m)-fold Darboux transformation based on its known Lax pair. Thirdly, we obtain some exact solutions including soliton, rational and semi-rational solutions with arbitrary controllable parameters and hybrid solutions by using the resulting Darboux transformation. Finally, in order to understand the properties of such solutions, we investigate the limit states of the diverse exact solutions by using graphic and asymptotic analysis. In particular, we discuss the asymptotic states of rational solutions and exponential-and-rational hybrid solutions graphically for the first time, which might be useful for understanding the motions of particles in lattices. Numerical simulations are used to discuss the dynamics of some soliton solutions. The results and properties provided in this paper may enrich the understanding of nonlinear lattice dynamics.

A cable-stayed bridge is a typical symmetrical structure, and symmetry affects the deformation characteristics of such bridges. The main girder of a cable-stayed bridge will produce obvious deflection under the inducement of temperature. The regression model of temperature-induced deflection is hoped to provide a comparison value for bridge evaluation. Based on the temperature and deflection data obtained by the health monitoring system of a bridge, establishing the correlation model between temperature and temperature-induced deflection is meaningful. It is difficult to complete a high-quality model only by the girder temperature. The temperature features based on prior knowledge from the mechanical mechanism are used as the input information in this paper. At the same time, to strengthen the nonlinear ability of the model, this paper selects an independent recurrent neural network (IndRNN) for modeling. The deep learning neural network is compared with machine learning neural networks to prove the advancement of deep learning. When only the average temperature of the main girder is input, the calculation accuracy is not high regardless of whether the deep learning network or the machine learning network is used. When the temperature information extracted by the prior knowledge is input, the average error of IndRNN model is only 2.53%, less than those of BPNN model and traditional RNN. Combining knowledge with deep learning is undoubtedly the best modeling scheme. The deep learning model can provide a comparison value of bridge deformation for bridge management.

The paper aims to analyze the vibrations of a summing box, used in heavy vehicles. An experimental setup is proposed and used for the analysis of these vibrations transmitted by the box housing, based on the measurement of the mechanical impedance. It is then shown that a simpler measurement, namely that of the generated noise spectrum, can provide equally useful results, with less effort and in a shorter time. The experimental setup is much simpler, involving a sonometer arranged in the experimental assembly. The symmetry of the box allows us to facilitate the execution of the experimental assembly, and the use of the symmetrical structure to facilitate the calculation of vibrations. The results obtained using this method in the case of a redesigned adder box are presented in the paper.

Most of the papers published so far in literature have focused on the theoretical phenomena underlying the formation of chaos, rather than on the investigation of potential applications of chaos to the real world. This paper aims to bridge the gap between chaos theory and chaos applications by presenting a survey of very recent applications of chaos. In particular, the manuscript covers the last three years by describing different applications of chaos as reported in the literature published during the years 2018 to 2020, including the matter related to the symmetry properties of chaotic systems. The topics covered herein include applications of chaos to communications, to distributed sensing, to robotic motion, to bio-impedance modelling, to hardware implementation of encryption systems, to computing and to random number generation.

Increasingly, cities worldwide are striving for green travel and slow traffic, and vigorously developing people-oriented urban pedestrian traffic with sustainability has become a fixture in recent discourse. This paper comprehensively considers the sidewalk’s facilities environment and the status of pedestrian traffic flow; divides the urban pedestrian road system (UPRS) into five subsystems around the underpass, overpass, crosswalk, sidewalk, and road crosswalk; and introduces the basic structure as well as the function of each system. Then, the indicators are classified into two types of crosswalk facilities and sidewalk facilities, and a comprehensive pedestrian road indicator system with the combination of subjective and objective is established. Consequently, the integration of the fuzzy AHP and DEA-based symmetrical technique for the subjective evaluation indicator combined with pedestrian traffic characteristics is developed. A nine-step semantics scale of relative importance was used so that the symmetry of the response of pedestrian satisfaction was maintained. Fuzzy evaluation based on AHP is further modeled, and the DEA is employed to achieve an overall evaluation of the quality of service (QoS) for UPRS. The applicability of the established evaluation system is finally verified through a real case study in Harbin, China. The serviceability assessment method in this paper provides a new idea for planners to conduct sustainability evaluation for UPRS in future urban renewal development.

A review of experimental studies carried out at the NRC “Kurchatov Institute” on plasma-facing thermonuclear fusion reactor materials is presented in the paper. An experimental method was developed to produce high-level radiation damage in materials simulating the neutron effect by surrogate irradiation with high-energy ions. Plasma-surface interaction is investigated on materials irradiated to high levels of radiation damage in high-flux deuterium plasma. The total fluence of accelerated ions (3–30 MeV, 4He2+, 12C3+, 14N3+, protons) on the samples was 1021–1023 m−2. Experiments were carried out on graphite materials, tungsten, and silicon carbide. Samples have been obtained with a primary defect concentration from 0.1 to 100 displacements per atom, which covers the predicted damage for the ITER and DEMO projects. Erosion dynamics of the irradiated materials in steady-state deuterium plasma, changes of the surface microstructure, and deuterium retention were studied using SEM, TEM, ERDA, TDS, and nuclear backscattering techniques. The surface layer of the materials (3 to hundreds µm) was investigated, and it was shown that the changes in the crystal structure, the loss of their symmetry, and diffusion of defects to grain boundaries play an important role. The most significant results are presented in the paper as an overview of our previous work for many years (carbon and tungsten materials) as well as the relatively recent results (silicon carbide).

The aim of the present tutorial paper is to recall notions from manifold calculus and to illustrate how these tools prove useful in describing system-theoretic properties. Special emphasis is put on embedded manifold calculus (which is coordinate-free and relies on the embedding of a manifold into a larger ambient space). In addition, we also consider the control of non-linear systems whose states belong to curved manifolds. As a case study, synchronization of non-linear systems by feedback control on smooth manifolds (including Lie groups) is surveyed. Special emphasis is also put on numerical methods to simulate non-linear control systems on curved manifolds. The present tutorial is meant to cover a portion of the mentioned topics, such as first-order systems, but it does not cover topics such as covariant derivation and second-order dynamical systems, which will be covered in a subsequent tutorial paper.
