Background: Preoperative emotional distress has been linked to adverse health outcomes, diminished quality of life, increased symptom burden after surgery, and poorer postoperative outcomes. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the impact of perioperative emotional distress on the long-term outcomes of patients undergoing colorectal surgery. Methods: We conducted a follow-up study of a previously conducted observational study of colorectal surgery patients who underwent surgery at the University Medical Centre Freiburg, Germany, between April 2018 and February 2020. Initially, all the patients completed a multidimensional mood questionnaire (MDMQ) preoperatively and on postoperative days 3, 6, and 9. From June to November 2021, these patients were contacted again to capture the results of MDMQ at least one year after surgery and to assess the rate of late complications, quality of life, dietary changes, and overall health. Results: Of the original 80 patients, 51 took part in the follow-up study (55% female, on average 59 years old), on average 30 months after the operation. The average mood results of the surgical patients returned to those of the normal population. Most patients (80%) did not feel that their quality of life was affected by the surgery. Satisfaction with the surgical outcome averaged 8.5 out of 10, while current health was rated at 6.8 out of 10. Emotional distress levels varied over time, with mood and arousal improving significantly postoperatively. Late complications were reported by 28% of the patients, but there were no significant differences in the MDMQ scores, health status, or satisfaction between those with and without complications. Simple Summary: Women at risk of carrying a genetic mutation report higher levels of distress compared to the general population. Psychological reactions to the climate change (CC) crisis, encompassing worry, distress, and impairment, are influenced by personality. Also, these psychological reactions to CC and future anxiety can impact an individual's overall psychological distress. The role of perfectionism in psychological distress through CC reactions and future anxiety (FA) has not yet been explored. Our aim was to explore the mediator roles of CC worry, CC distress, CC impairment, and FA in the link between perfectionism and general psychological distress while controlling for the effect of gender. A path analysis was conducted on a sample of 577 adults (mean age = 32.62 ± 14.71) from the general population (64.5% women). The final model with all statistically significant path coefficients (p ≤ 0.01) presented an excellent model fit: χ2(6) = 1.56, p = 0.152; CFI = 0.995; GFI = 0.995; TLI = 0.986; RMSEA = 0.031, CI = 0.000–0.068, p = 0.764. Perfectionism was associated with general PD through several indirect pathways, including CC worry, CC distress, CC impairment, and FA, while controlling for the effect of gender. The model explained 3.89% of CC worry, 39.70% of CC distress, 20.64% of CC impairment, 23.73% of FA, and 20.20% of general PD. These findings suggest that cognitive and emotional responses to CC and future anxiety are exacerbated with higher perfectionism levels, which leads to higher overall psychological distress. These data underscore that individuals with high levels of perfectionism may require help to psychologically adapt to CC. Background/Objectives: Mental disorders in nursing students, although very common under normal circumstances, have worsened over time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This study aimed to assess (1) what the prevalence of anxiety and depression symptoms in Italian nursing students was and (2) what factors were associated with them. Methods: In May 2023, a cross-sectional study was conducted on the bachelor's degree Nursing course in an Italian university. Levels of anxiety and stress were assessed using the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) and the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), respectively. In addition, socio-demographic variables and data on mental health, drug intake, and substance use were collected. Multiple binary logistic regression adjusted analyses were used to identify predictive factors. Results: A total of 148 nursing students completed the questionnaire. A total of 9.5% reported a previous diagnosis of a mental disorder, and, of these, 35.7% reported that it was diagnosed after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The mean GAD-7 and PHQ-9 score was 9.68 (SD = 5.2) and 8.37 (SD = 5.6), respectively. Protective factors for depressive symptoms included not having a previous diagnosis of a mental disorder (adjusted odds ratio = 0.10, 95% CI: 0.002–0.47, p < 0.001) and a perceived high (adjusted odds ratio = 0.03, 95% CI: 0.003–0.22 p < 0.001) or medium (adjusted odds ratio = 0.14, 95% CI: 0.03–0.82, p < 0.05) socioeconomic level, while the predictor of anxiety symptoms was returning home once a month for students studying away from their residence (adjusted odds ratio = 6.4, 95% CI: 1.01–40.8, p < 0.05). Conclusions: Urgent investments are needed in universities to implement mental health promotion programmes and to offer counselling services to reduce and prevent mental health problems among students. Simple Summary: For Adolescents and Young Adults (AYAs) with gynecological cancer, preserving fertility is crucial for their Quality of Life. This systematic review explores how possible (in)fertility affects treatment choice and psychological well-being during and after treatment. The studies included were evaluated using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT). A total of 15 studies were analyzed. The key findings emphasize the importance of informing all AYAs about how cancer treatment can impact fertility and discussing available fertility preservation options. This review also highlights that AYAs with gynecological cancer who do not have fertility preservation options are often overlooked. Therefore, research should focus more on this specific group. We recommend improving the Shared Decision-Making (SDM) and follow-up process for AYAs with gynecological cancer by addressing fertility-related questions and concerns, which could enhance their long-term Quality of Life. Fertility-sparing surgery offers a viable alternative to standard, usually fertility-impairing treatments. Treatment choice remains difficult and renders perspectives of AYAs on decision-making and psychological outcomes afterwards. This review examines the impact of (in)fertility on psychological well-being both during cancer treatment, and in the long term. Methods: A systematic review of the peer-reviewed literature was conducted by searching Pubmed, Web of Science, Cochrane Trial database and PsycINFO on 30 November 2023. The review included studies with a focus on gynecological cancer, fertility and pregnancy related psychological outcomes, QoL, and psychosocial factors influencing decision-making. Case reports and reviews were excluded. Quality was assessed with the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool (MMAT). Results: 15 studies, published between 2005 and 2023, involving 1328 participants, were included. Key findings highlight the significance of informing all AYAs about cancer treatment effects on fertility and discussing fertility preservation options. Feeling time-pressured and conflicted between choosing the best oncological outcomes and preserving fertility were common. Factors such as younger age at diagnosis, time pressure, and inadequate counseling by healthcare workers increased reproductive concerns which contributed to long term psychological distress. Research on AYAs with gynecological cancer without fertility preservation possibilities is limited and should be prioritized. Conclusions: This review shows that both Shared Decision-Making (SDM) and follow-up processes can be improved by addressing fertility-related questions and concerns, therefore increasing long-term QoL. Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is marked by severe physical symptoms, impaired quality of life, and high psychological distress. Despite its impact, the identification of not only physical but also psychosocial and existential issues in the clinic lags behind that of other patient groups. Methods: This study aimed to assess physical, psychosocial, and existential issues among patients with COPD using a patient-reported outcome measure for general palliative care (the 'PRO-Pall') in a Danish outpatient clinic. We included 115 adults with COPD who completed the PRO-Pall either electronically or in the clinic. Sociodemographic and illness-related data were retrieved from their electronic health records. Results: We found that shortness of breath, tiredness, and difficulty walking were predominant physical issues. Worry about change in social roles was the most frequently reported psychosocial issue, while existential issues were reported by approximately one in ten patients. Most patients (44.5%) felt able to share their feelings with family or friends, and a majority (62.2%) felt their illness-related issues were addressed satisfactorily. Females expressed a greater need for rest and males more frequently reported intimacy issues. Higher COPD-impact on life measured by the COPD Assessment Test was associated with lower ratings on the quality-of-life item of the PRO-Pall independent of age, gender, lung function, and smoking status. Conclusions: Patients reported issues in physical, psychosocial, and existential dimensions of the PRO-Pall. Background/Objectives: Laryngeal cancer significantly impacts patients' psychological well-being and quality of life (QoL). This study aims to evaluate the psychological impact and QoL in patients with laryngeal cancer, focusing on differences based on tumor stage and treatment. Methods: This longitudinal study included 75 patients diagnosed with laryngeal cancer. Participants were assessed at diagnosis and 3 months post-treatment using validated tools such as the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the EORTC QLQ-H&N35 questionnaire. This study analyzed the impact of tumor stage, treatment type, and demographic factors on psychological well-being and QoL. Results: Patients with early-stage tumors (Stage I) reported significantly better psychological well-being and QoL compared to those with more advanced tumors (Stages III and IV) both before and after treatment. The non-significant p-values in advanced stages suggest a uniformity of severe distress and poor QoL among these patients. Treatment led to significant reductions in anxiety and depression in early-stage patients, while those with advanced-stage disease showed less improvement. Conclusions: The findings highlight the critical need for early psychological intervention, particularly in advanced-stage laryngeal cancer patients who continue to experience substantial psychological distress and poor QoL despite treatment. Background: The Second Victim Phenomenon (SVP) significantly impacts the well-being of healthcare professionals and patient safety. While the SVP has been explored in various healthcare settings, there are limited data on its prevalence and associated factors among nurses in Austria. This study investigates the prevalence, symptomatology, and preferred support measures for SVP among Austrian nurses. Methods: A nationwide, cross-sectional, anonymous online survey was conducted September to December 2023 using the SeViD questionnaire (Second Victims in German-speaking Countries), which includes the Big Five Inventory-10 (BFI-10). Statistical analyses included binary logistic regression and multiple linear regression using the bias-corrected and accelerated (BCa) bootstrapping method based on 5000 bootstrap samples. Results: A total of 928 participants responded to the questionnaire with a response rate of 15.47%. The participants were on average 42.42 years old and were mainly women (79.63%). Among the respondents, 81.58% (744/912) identified as Second Victims (SVs). The primary cause of becoming an SV was aggressive behavior from patients or relatives. Females reported a higher symptom load than males, and higher agreeableness was linked to increased symptom severity. Notably, 92.47% of SVs who sought help preferred support from colleagues, and the most pronounced desire among participants was to process the event for better understanding. Conclusions: The prevalence of SVP among Austrian nurses is alarmingly high, with aggressive behavior identified as a significant trigger. The findings emphasize the necessity for tailored support strategies, including peer support and systematic organizational interventions to mitigate the impact of SVP on nurses and to improve overall patient care. Background: Considering the high prevalence of UI in the rural areas of Jordan and the limited clinical data on its occurrence in central Jordan, this study aims to investigate the prevalence, risk factors, and impact of urinary incontinence (UI) on the quality of life (QoL) of women in central Jordan. Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted from September to December 2022, using online the Incontinence Impact Questionnaire short form (IIQ-7) and Urogenital Distress Inventory short form (UDI-6). Participation was voluntary, and anonymous. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's α. Results: A total of 128 women participated in the study. More than half of the participants (54.33%, N = 69) experienced UI symptoms. Body mass index was the sole statistically significant factor linked to UI. Obese patients had the highest risk (OR 35, CI 95% 2.577–475.308, p < 0.05) compared to those with a healthy weight. Multivariate regression indicated significant associations of severe UI with smoking and vaginal births with a moderate impact of UI on QoL. Conclusions: The study's findings emphasize the need for women's health centers in the center of Jordan to develop comprehensive UI prevention and management programs to improve women's health and well-being. Negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health have been widely reported. Chinese populations, especially those living overseas, are highly vulnerable to mental health problems considering the unique challenges they faced during the pandemic. Even though the pandemic lasted for three years, little is known about the mental health condition of this special population over this time course. The current study aimed to assess peritraumatic distress among Chinese migrants in Canada and identify its consistent risk predictors across the three years of the pandemic (2020, 2021, 2022). Three groups of Chinese adult migrants (i.e., aged 18 or above) living in Canada were randomly recruited through social media and the internet to complete an online survey in 2020, 2021, and 2022 respectively. Peritraumatic distress was assessed with the COVID-19 Peritraumatic Distress Index (CPDI). Univariate analysis of variance (ANOVA) models and a subsequent hierarchical multiple regression model were conducted to track peritraumatic distress differences across the three years and identify potential risk factors. The results showed that the CPDI score increased from 2020 to 2022 and peaked in 2021. Age, birthplace, health status, perceived discrimination, self-contraction and family contraction worry were identified as significant sociodemographic and COVID-19-related predictors for peritraumatic distress (absolute βs = 2.16–9.00; ps < 0.05). (1) Background: The observational retrospective study aimed to investigate the prevalence of personality disorders (PDs) and their association with psychopathological symptoms in a group of patients with cocaine addiction. (2) Methods: Ninety-five medical records of the Pathological Addictions Service of the National Health Service of Lecce (Italy) were analyzed. PDs were diagnosed using the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Axis II Personality Disorders (SCID-II) and psychopathological symptoms were investigated through the Symptom Checklist 90-Revised (SCL-90-R). (3) Results: Ninety-two out of ninety-five patients met the criteria for at least one PD (96.8%), almost 35% had two Cluster B PDs, and over 25% had three Cluster B PDs. Nine out of ninety-five people met the criteria for all Cluster B PDs. Among the Cluster B PDs, it emerged that the most frequent diagnosis was that of narcissistic–borderline–antisocial (over 20% of the total sample). The analysis highlighted that mental suffering is prevalent in those with multiple comorbid Cluster B PDs. Specifically, depression and psychoticism exceed the clinical cut-off (T score > 63) in all patient groups. At the same time, anxiety and obsessions–compulsions are complained of only by those with more than two PDs as well as the level of general distress. Furthermore, anxiety, hostility, and paranoid ideation are significantly higher in the group of patients with more than three PDs. (4) Conclusions: Further studies should better investigate the relationship between the two aspects and describe the causal effects of PDs on psychopathological symptoms or, on the contrary, the effects of the substance on mental health and the worsening of personality alterations. The support provided by parents plays a relevant role in the life satisfaction (LS) of young people, as well as in their level of psychological distress (PD), which are among the important mediators of their well-being. Family structure has also been identified as a protective or risk factor. Hence, the present study provides a more complex analysis of young people's LS, considering the type of family cohabitation (based on parental presence), the personal conditions of the young people (PS), and their perception of the context (social support; SP). A cross-sectional design was used, and 557 young people, with a mean age of 20.68 (SD = 2.23), 50.8% women, 60.7% students, participated. Their levels of psychological distress, perceived social support, life satisfaction, and parental cohabitation were assessed. A mediation and a moderated-mediation model were used. Young people living in a biparental family reveal higher levels of LS and lower levels of PS. A partial mediation was found in the effect of SP on the relation between PS and LS. The moderated-mediation model tested showed that the indirect effects on the paths PS–SP and SP–LS were not significant by the type of parental family cohabitation. There is evidence that anxiety and avoidance toward close relationships (i.e., insecure attachment orientations), as well as posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSSs), are linked to a poor quality of life. The current study aimed to investigate the potential mediating effects of PTSSs on the associations between insecure attachment orientations and domains of quality of life. A convenience sample of 497 adults (375 females, 75.5%), ranging in age between 18 and 65 years old (M = 32.48, SD = 13.26), was recruited. Participants were administered self-report instruments assessing attachment anxiety and avoidance, PTSSs, and domains of quality of life, including physical health, psychological status, social relationships, and environment. A series of mediation analyses were performed to test the mediating role of PTSSs in the relationships between attachment orientations and domains of quality of life. Results showed that attachment anxiety was related to decreased levels of quality of life in all domains, and that their associations were mediated by PTSSs. Also, attachment avoidance was related to a worse quality of psychological status and social relationships, and PTSSs were a significant mediating variable in these associations. Prevention programs and clinical interventions focused on promoting effective strategies for managing distress might be critical in reducing the impact of distressing events on the quality of life of individuals with insecure attachment. (1) Background: Clinical aspects like sex, age, Karnofsky Performance Scale (KPS) and psychosocial distress can affect the health-related quality of life (HR-QoL) and treatment satisfaction of patients with malignant isocitrate dehydrogenase wild-type (IDHwt) gliomas and caregivers. (2) Methods: We prospectively investigated the HR-QoL and patient/caregiver treatment satisfaction in a cross-sectional study with univariable and multiple regression analyses. Questionnaires were applied to investigate the HR-QoL (EORTC QLQ-C30, QLQ-BN20) and treatment satisfaction (EORTC PATSAT-C33). (3) Results: A cohort of 61 patients was investigated. A higher KPS was significantly associated with a better HR-QoL regarding the functional scales of the EORTC QLQ-C30 (p < 0.004) and a lower symptom burden regarding the EORTC QLQ-BN20 (p < 0.001). The patient treatment satisfaction was significantly poorer in the patients older than 60 years in the domain of family involvement (p = 0.010). None of the investigated aspects showed a significant impact on the treatment satisfaction of caregivers. (4) Conclusions: We demonstrated that in patients with IDHwt gliomas, the KPS was the most important predictor for a better HR-QoL in functional domains. Data on the HR-QoL and treatment satisfaction in patients with IDHwt gliomas and their caregivers are rare; therefore, further efforts should be made to improve supportive care in this highly distressed cohort. Social interactions that are simultaneously characterized by positive and negative aspects—i.e., ambivalent relationships—have been found to be related to distress and poor mental health. As the university setting is also characterized by several social interactions, this study aimed to investigate for the first time to what extent objective and subjective ambivalence towards lecturers or instructors are linked to university students' distress levels and mental health indicators. A notable relationship of ambivalence with the outcomes was found in 1105 students from Germany. The association with psychological distress was more pronounced for objective than for subjective ambivalence (adjusted betas = 0.342 vs. 0.261, p-values < 0.001), while both also had an independent association. The association with mental health was comparable for both types (adjusted beta = −0.206 vs. −0.191, p-values < 0.001). For paradoxical emotions, the relationship with objective ambivalence was stronger, and only this remained significant in the mutually adjusted model (adjusted beta = 0.376, p-value < 0.001). This study provided evidence of a previously unconsidered stressor at the university—ambivalence towards lecturers—associated with negative health effects among students. Intimate partner violence (IPV) against women is a major global public health and human rights issue, with significant consequences for women's health and well-being. This study aimed to determine the relevance of IPV on women's mental distress, post-traumatic stress symptoms and life satisfaction, and to examine whether age, education, socioeconomic status, social support and self-esteem are associated with mental health and well-being. The sample consisted of 255 women aged 18 to 71 living in Colombia who were assessed using six self-reported questionnaires. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses showed that more IPV was associated with women's increased mental distress, post-traumatic stress symptoms and decreased life satisfaction. Although self-esteem and, to a lesser extent, social support were important predictors of women's mental distress and well-being, psychological IPV was the main predictor of women's post-traumatic stress symptoms, followed by lower self-esteem and younger age. The most important predictor of women's mental distress was lower self-esteem, followed by more psychological IPV and lower social support. The main predictor of women's life satisfaction was high self-esteem, followed by high social support, less psychological IPV and higher age and education. It is concluded that IPV, especially psychological IPV, is a serious threat to women's mental health and well-being, while high self-esteem and, to a lesser extent, high social support are associated with better mental health and well-being. This study examined the emotional reactions and coping resources of Bedouin teenagers (ages 12–18) following the events of 7 October 2023 and the subsequent Iron Swords War between Israel and Hamas forces in Gaza. This study focused on the relationships between subjective exposure, personal sense of coherence, community resilience, and the use of different coping strategies, on the one hand, and anxiety, anger, and psychological distress, on the other. During 2024, 762 participants completed the study questionnaire, which addressed the different study variables. The findings revealed significant differences between the boys and the girls. Specifically, the girls reported higher levels of subjective exposure and emotional reactions. Personal sense of coherence was found to be a significant protective factor. In contrast, the use of nonproductive coping strategies increased distress. This study underscores the need for intervention programs tailored for this society and by gender, as well as training for educational professionals, to help them to identify and treat emotional reactions to stress in ways that take into consideration the Bedouin cultural context. Mental distress-induced imbalances in autonomic nervous system activities adversely affect the electrical stability of the cardiac system, with heart rate variability (HRV) identified as a related indicator. Traditional HRV measurements use electrocardiography (ECG), but impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) radar has shown potential in HRV measurement, although it is rarely applied to psychological studies. This study aimed to assess early high levels of mental distress using HRV indices obtained using radar through modified signal processing tailored to reduce phase noise and improve positional accuracy. We conducted 120 evaluations on 15 office workers from a software startup, with each 5 min evaluation using both radar and ECG. Visual analog scale (VAS) scores were collected to assess mental distress, with evaluations scoring 7.5 or higher classified as high-mental distress group, while the remainder formed the control group. Evaluations indicating high levels of mental distress showed significantly lower HRV compared to the control group, with radar-derived indices correlating strongly with ECG results. The radar-based analysis demonstrated a significant ability to differentiate high mental distress, supported by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. These findings suggest that IR-UWB radar could be a supportive tool for distinguishing high levels of mental stress, offering clinicians complementary diagnostic insights. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Chronic widespread pain (CWP) affects approximately 10% of the adult population globally, causing significant physical and psychological distress. Micronutrients, such as iron, copper, zinc, and magnesium, are essential in various physiological functions, and their imbalances may impact pain perception and chronic pain conditions. Methods: This study used Mendelian randomization (MR) to investigate the causal relationships between micronutrient levels and CWP. Data were obtained from genome-wide association studies (GWASs) for iron, copper, zinc, and magnesium, and CWP data were sourced from large-scale GWASs with 461,857 European participants. Genetic variants were used as instrumental variables to infer causal relationships, minimizing confounding factors. Results: MR analysis revealed a significant association between higher iron levels and an increased risk of CWP (IVW, OR 1.01, 95% CI: 1.00–1.01, p = 0.029). This finding was supported by the weighted median and MR-Egger methods. No significant associations were found for copper, zinc, and magnesium levels. Conclusions: These results suggest that iron levels may influence pain perception and chronic pain conditions. Balanced iron levels are crucial for managing chronic pain. The aim of this article is to identify and illustrate the most used psychological techniques in the field of cystic fibrosis (CF) and to help clinicians choose the most appropriate strategy among various possibilities. The disease and its medical treatments can be difficult to tolerate and can cause anxiety about health status or feelings of hopelessness and stress. The prevalence of depression and anxiety is 2.3 times higher in adults with CF than in community samples. A strong correlation has been identified between elevated psychological distress and unfavorable health outcomes, including, among others, impaired lung function, reduced BMI, an increased incidence of pulmonary exacerbations, and an elevated risk of transplantation. The use of psychological interventions is useful in addressing these common distresses in CF patients. Aware of the necessity of identifying efficacious interventions for all levels of depression and anxiety in CF patients, this study presents an overview of the research on psychological interventions for patients with CF, in order to complement the treatments suggested by the international guidelines on mental health in CF cases. This review provides an overview of the connection between abdominal and pelvic surgery on male and female infertility and elucidates the role of surgeons in counseling to alleviate psychological distress in newly diagnosed patients. A review of the literature revealed that pelvic surgery leads to increased adhesion formation, which is known to be associated with female infertility. Furthermore, nerve damage from pelvic surgery has significant implications for ejaculatory issues in males and sexual dysfunction in both males and females, which ultimately impact pregnancy success. Patients have significant distress related to treatment-related infertility, and pre-treatment fertility counseling has been shown to alleviate some of this psychological burden. Nevertheless, many patients do not receive counseling, particularly in surgical clinics, despite surgeons often being the first providers to see newly diagnosed non-metastatic patients. Efforts should be made to enact protocols that ensure fertility conversations are being had with patients in surgical clinics and that patients are being referred to fertility specialists appropriately. Simple Summary: Cancer patients frequently encounter significant emotional and psychological challenges that can adversely affect their overall well-being and treatment outcomes. To address these challenges, we developed the Cancer Patient Empowerment Program (CancerPEP), a comprehensive, home-based intervention that incorporates physical exercise, nutritional guidance, and social support. CancerPEP builds on the success of the Prostate Cancer Patient Empowerment Program (PC-PEP), which has demonstrated positive effects on psychological well-being in prostate cancer patients. In this study, we also evaluated whether adding a Heart Rate Variability (HRV) biofeedback device could enhance the effectiveness of CancerPEP. Our findings indicate that while CancerPEP significantly reduced psychological distress and improved emotional well-being across cancer patients—including a breast cancer subgroup—at the end of the intervention (the 6-month point), the addition or lack of an HRV device did not significantly contribute to these improvements for the full sample. These results suggest that CancerPEP, similar to PC-PEP, is a valuable addition to standard cancer care, providing a holistic approach to support patients both mentally and emotionally. Background/Objectives: Psychological distress is a significant concern among cancer patients, negatively affecting their quality of life and adherence to treatment. The Cancer Patient Empowerment Program (CancerPEP) was developed as a comprehensive, home-based intervention aimed at reducing psychological distress by incorporating physical activity, dietary guidance, and social support. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility, accrual and attrition rates, safety, and effectiveness of the CancerPEP intervention, with and without the biofeedback device, on psychological distress from baseline to 6 months, specifically focusing on the effects of group randomization and the difference between pre- and post-intervention results. Methods: This single-site, crossover randomized clinical trial included 104 cancer patients who were randomized to receive the CancerPEP intervention, with or without a Heart Rate Variability (HRV) biofeedback monitor. At 6 months, participants who did not receive the device were allowed to use one until the end of the year, while those who did receive the device were followed up to 12 months. Randomization was stratified by the presence or absence of clinically significant psychological distress and metastatic status. Psychological distress was assessed using the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10) at baseline, 6 months, and 12 months. The primary endpoint was the presence of nonspecific psychological distress, as measured by the K10 scale at 6 months from the trial start, based on group randomization. A secondary exploratory analysis assessed psychological distress at baseline, 6 months, and 12 months for both groups, while controlling for group randomization and prognostic covariates. Prognostic covariates included age; comorbidities; time between diagnosis and randomization; treatment modality; relationship status; and use of prescribed medications for anxiety, depression, or both. An exploratory sub-analysis was conducted for the breast cancer subgroup, based on the sample size available after recruitment. The trial is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05508412). Results: The provision of the HRV biofeedback monitor in conjunction with the CancerPEP intervention did not significantly affect the primary outcome in either the full sample or the breast cancer subgroup, indicating that the HRV biofeedback provision was not beneficial in this trial. No self-reported or otherwise discovered adverse events at the 6-month mark were observed. About 10% of participants were lost to follow-up in both the early and late HRV monitor provision groups. Participation in the CancerPEP program led to a significant reduction in psychological distress over time. The odds of psychological distress were significantly higher at the start of the trial than at the end of the intervention (aOR = 2.64, 95% CI: 1.53–4.56) or 6 months after the intervention (aOR = 2.94, 95% CI: 1.62–5.30). Similarly, in the breast cancer subgroup, distress was higher at the trial's start than at 6 months, i.e., after the intervention (aOR = 2.25, 95% CI: 1.24–4.08), or at the end of the trial at 12 months (aOR = 2.73, 95% CI: 1.35–5.52). Conclusions: CancerPEP significantly reduces psychological distress in cancer patients, with consistent improvements noted across various cancer types and stages, including benefits specifically for breast cancer patients. These findings build upon the success of the Prostate Cancer Patient Empowerment Program (PC-PEP), indicating that a similar comprehensive intervention can be advantageous for all cancer patients and may be further tailored to address specific needs. With its holistic approach—encompassing physical, dietary, and psychosocial support—CancerPEP shows promise as a vital component of survivorship care. Simple Summary: This research was inspired by a desire to understand how adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) impact depression among cancer survivors. The study's findings revealed that cancer survivors with three or more ACEs had a depression rate of 40.8%, compared to 18.7% among those with one to two ACEs and 10.9% among those with no ACEs. Survivors with three or more ACEs were significantly more likely to report experiencing depression. Objectives: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are linked to a heightened risk of depression. We explored the relationship between ACEs and both depression and mental distress among cancer survivors. Methods: This was a cross-sectional analysis using the 2022 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System database of cancer survivors aged ≥18 (n = 14,132). The primary outcome was self-reported history of depression, and the secondary outcome was mental distress. The exposure variable was the number of ACEs, classified as 0, 1–2, and ≥3. Weighted multivariable logistic regression models assessed the association between the number of ACEs and depression and mental distress while adjusting for covariates. Results: Approximately 22% of respondents reported experiencing ≥3 ACEs. The prevalence of depression was 21.8%, and mental distress was 15.4%. Compared with cancer survivors who had experienced 0 ACEs, those who had experienced ≥3 (aOR = 3.94; 95% CI, 3.04–5.10) or 1–2 (aOR = 1.85; 95% CI, 1.47–2.32) ACEs had a higher likelihood of reporting depression. Compared with cancer survivors who had experienced 0 ACEs, those who had experienced ≥3 (aOR = 0.67; 95% CI, 0.48–0.93) had a lower likelihood of reporting mental distress. This paper presents the anatomical and biomechanical aspects of chronic instability of the craniocervical junction (CCJ) with a discussion on clinical diagnostics based on mobility tests and provocative tests related to ligamentous system injuries, as well as radiological criteria for CCJ instability. In addition to the structural instability of the CCJ, the hypothesis of its functional form resulting from cervical proprioceptive system (CPS) damage is discussed. Clinical and neurophysiological studies have shown that functional disorders or organic changes in the CPS cause symptoms similar to those of vestibular system diseases: dizziness, nystagmus, and balance disorders. The underlying cause of the functional form of CCJ instability may be the increased activity of mechanoreceptors, leading to "informational noise" which causes vestibular system disorientation. Due to the disharmony of mutual stimulation and the inhibition of impulses between the centers controlling eye movements, the cerebellum, spinal motoneurons, and the vestibular system, inadequate vestibulospinal and vestibulo-ocular reactions occur, manifesting as postural instability, dizziness, and nystagmus. The hyperactivity of craniocervical mechanoreceptors also leads to disturbances in the reflex regulation of postural muscle tone, manifesting as "general instability". Understanding this form of CCJ instability as a distinct clinical entity is important both diagnostically and therapeutically as it requires different management strategies compared to true instability. Background/Objectives: Although rare in the Western world, dog bites may be lethal or lead to physically severe outcomes. However, little attention is given to their psychological consequences. We aimed to review their psychological consequences in children 1–14 years of age, focusing on the prevalence and nature of psychological disorders, evaluating the impact on future mental health of children and their families, and assessing the effectiveness of preventive interventions and measures. Methods: On 23 May 2024, we investigated the PubMed, CINAHL, and PsycINFO/PsycARTICLES databases using ("dog bite" OR animal-induced OR animal-caused) AND (psychol* OR mental OR psychiatr* OR anxiety OR anxious OR depress* OR obsess* OR trauma* OR psychosis OR psychotic OR schizophren* OR schizoaffect*) filtered for ages 0–18 years. This resulted in 311 records, of which 50 were eligible. These included original research, case reports, patient surveys, and reviews/meta-analyses. Results: Findings indicate that younger children are particularly vulnerable, often suffering head/neck bites, leading to severe injuries and psychological distress, with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) being a common outcome. Symptoms such as nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety, and social withdrawal were frequently reported. Positive parental support and timely psychological interventions were found to mitigate these effects. Conclusions: Interdisciplinary approaches integrating education, cognitive restructuring, and behaviour modification are needed to effectively prevent and address the psychological impacts of dog bites. Summarising, dog bites in children result in substantial psychological sequelae, necessitating robust prevention and intervention strategies to improve their quality of life and reduce the risk of chronic mental conditions. Background: Bullying has been shown to have negative consequences on the health and well-being of adolescents. Some students may experience various bullying behaviors and not consider themselves victims, finding themselves in a situation of unperceived mistreatment. Few studies have focused on the relationship between self-reported victimization behaviors and self-identification as a victim. Our objective is to determine the prevalence of unperceived victimization and analyze its relationship with adolescent distress. Methods: A total of 964 adolescents aged between 12 and 19 years participated. Standardized instruments were used to assess psychological distress, bullying in the last month and previous years, perception of victimization, and resilience. Results: More than 20% of adolescents are in a situation of unperceived victimization, not recognizing themselves as victims despite reporting bullying behaviors. Among girls and middle adolescence, perceiving oneself as a victim increases the likelihood of feeling distress. The likelihood of experiencing distress increases with previous victimization and decreases with high resilience. Conclusions: Mental health professionals should consider bullying as a factor of distress in adolescence. It is essential to refer adolescent victims of bullying to specialized mental health resources to adequately address their well-being and increase resilience as a protective factor. Objective: This paper reports on the initial outcomes of a new mHealth intervention to reduce diabetes distress (DD) in families of school-age children living with type 1 diabetes (T1D) entitled, 'Remedy to Diabetes Distress' (R2D2). Methods: We randomized 34 families (mean child age = 10 ± 1.4 years; 53% male, 85% White, mean HbA1c = 7.24 ± 0.71%) to one of three delivery arms differing only by number of telehealth visits over a 10-week period: zero visits = self-guided (SG), three visits = enhanced self-guided (ESG), or eight visits = video visits (VV). All families had 24 × 7 access to digital treatment materials for 10 weeks. We examined the feasibility and acceptability of R2D2. We used the Problem Areas in Diabetes-Child (PPAIDC and PAIDC, parent and child, respectively) to examine treatment effects by time and delivery arm. We performed sensitivity analyses to characterize families who responded to R2D2. Results: It was feasible for families to access R2D2 mHealth content independently, though attendance at telehealth visits was variable. Parents and children reported high satisfaction scores. There were significant pre-post reductions in PPAIDC (p = 0.026) and PAIDC (p = 0.026) scores but no differences by delivery arm. There were no differences in child age, sex, race, or pre-treatment HbA1c for responders versus non-responders, though families who responded reported higher PPAID-C scores pre-treatment (p = 0.01) and tended to report shorter diabetes duration (p = 0.08). Conclusions: Initial results support the acceptability and treatment effects of R2D2 regardless of the frequency of adjunctive virtual visits. Simple Summary: Increased distress is a common initial response for youth and their families following the diagnosis of childhood cancer. The New Oncology Program in Psychology (NOPP) was established to provide education and information on what to expect at diagnosis, as well as ways to support coping with treatment. This project examined how NOPP participation relates to caregivers' perceptions surrounding the navigation of difficult emotions, and of the awareness of potential cognitive/academic challenges their child may experience. Caregivers completing NOPP visits felt more informed about difficult emotions and how these may change over time. They felt more prepared for and equipped with strategies and support to manage difficult emotions. Lastly, caregivers felt more aware of and prepared for the potential effects of the diagnosis and treatment on patient cognitive/academic functioning. The results highlight important domains for universal assessment and intervention with pediatric patients and families at the time of a new cancer diagnosis. Mann–Whitney U tests assess the differences in caregiver knowledge and preparedness between caregivers who did and did not receive psychological services. Results: Caregivers reported difficult emotions at diagnosis and expressed concern for the impact of diagnosis and treatment across broad domains of patient functioning. Caregivers of patients who received psychology consultation felt more informed about difficult emotions and how these may change over time. They felt more prepared and equipped with strategies to manage difficult emotions. Caregivers of patients who completed a cognitive assessment also felt more informed and prepared regarding the potential effects of the diagnosis and treatment on patient cognitive/academic functioning. Conclusions: Psychological services were associated with caregivers' positive perceptions surrounding the management of difficult emotions and with their knowledge regarding the cognitive/academic impact. Transportation infrastructure experiences distress due to aging, overuse, and climate changes. To reduce maintenance costs and labor, researchers have developed various structural health monitoring systems. However, the existing systems are designed for short-term monitoring and do not quantify structural parameters. A long-term monitoring system that quantifies structural parameters is needed to improve the quality of monitoring. In this work, a novel Transportation Rf-bAsed Monitoring (TRAM) system is proposed. TRAM is a multi-parameter monitoring system that relies on embeddable backscatter-based, batteryless, and radio-frequency sensors. The system can monitor structural parameters with 3D spatial and temporal information. Laboratory experiments were conducted on a 1D scale to evaluate and examine the sensitivity and reliability of the monitored structural parameters, which are displacement and water content. Natural disasters are large-scale catastrophic events, and they are increasing in frequency and severity. Converging evidence indicates that the mental health consequences of disasters are extensive and are often associated with trauma and the disruption of personal and socioeconomic factors in people's lives. Although most individuals experiencing disaster-related traumatic events do not develop mental illnesses, some experience adverse psychological effects of disasters. These mental health effects begin immediately following a disaster and may persist for extended periods. In this article, we summarize the literature findings to provide a narrative review that focuses on the mental health consequences of natural disasters. An overview of the disaster mental health research field is provided, and the findings are ordered into theoretical frameworks. Then, the development and course of psychopathology regarding disaster aftermath are described in a methodological context. Next, understanding a disaster as an event of transition is highlighted, and the impact of this disaster-specific transition is discussed. Lastly, a potential relationship between the transitional impact of a disaster and mental health consequences is speculated on, and the implications are discussed. The impact of disasters on mental health can be direct or indirect, short-term or long-term, and to some extent depends on the recovery process of the affected community. Also, we propose the possible merits of using the Transitional Impact Scale in the context of disaster mental health research by assessing the features of disaster-related transition and its effects on mental health. We conclude by suggesting a direction for future research in terms of measuring the disaster mental health effects in community settings (affected vs. non-affected) and also considering cross-cultural and cross-regional differences. Research has shown that sexting is an increasingly common behavior, especially among teens and young adults. However, despite numerous studies, the relevance of sexting to people's well-being is unclear. The present study seeks to determine the relevance of gender in sexting behavior and its association with psychological well-being and intimate partner violence victimization across the life cycle, from adolescence to old age. This study was cross-sectional, and the sample consisted of 6719 women and men from the general Spanish population who were assessed by six questionnaires measuring sexting behavior, psychological distress, psychological well-being, life satisfaction, self-esteem, and intimate partner violence victimization. The results showed that participation in sexting was higher in men than in women at all stages of the life cycle studied, although the differences were not statistically significant among adolescents. Greater sexting behavior was associated with greater intimate partner violence victimization, an association that was stronger for adolescents. And although the magnitude of the association was small, more sexting was also associated with greater psychological distress and lower psychological well-being in all age groups except older women. This study investigates a novel multimodal treatment for chronic tinnitus, a condition that significantly affects quality of life, by combining personalized sound therapy with both low- and high-frequency electromagnetic wave stimulation. Conducted at Tor Vergata University Hospital in Rome, the research involved 55 patients and employed a portable medical device for therapy delivery. Treatment effectiveness was measured through the Tinnitus Functional Index (TFI), Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Hyperacusis Questionnaire (HQ), and Short Form-36 Health Survey (SF-36), encompassing initial sound therapy and subsequent multimodal treatment phases. Remarkably, 73% of participants experienced notable improvements in TFI scores, with 39% reporting a significant enhancement of 13 points or more. Burnout and stress-related issues are significant concerns among medical personnel involved in emergency situations due to the high demands of their work. A cross-sectional descriptive and comparative study was conducted on 266 prehospital emergency personnel across five Romanian counties, comprising 41 physicians, 74 nurses, and 151 paramedics. Data were collected through an online form, including demographic and professional characteristics, and five validated scales. This study revealed moderate (49.3%) to high (25.9%) burnout rates, with 35% showing signs of work addiction. Despite these challenges, the personnel demonstrated high levels of stress-related growth (61.2%), strong self-discipline (74.1%), and low to moderate responsive distress (100%). Physicians exhibited higher work addiction and job satisfaction, whereas paramedics faced higher burnout, self-discipline, and distress levels. Nurses showed lower burnout and self-discipline levels. These findings highlight the prevalence of burnout and work addiction among emergency medical personnel, while also underscoring the presence of protective factors like higher self-discipline, good level of stress-related growth, and low to moderate responsive distress. The relationship between culture, as a set of norms that structure human social practice, and agency, as the human capacity to act, has been debated for decades. Achieving clarity in how these constructs intersect has been hampered by difficulty in measuring either one, and theory has not suggested how a model linking culture and agency might be specified. We present a model in which culture is measured as cultural consonance, or the degree to which individuals actually incorporate prototypes for behavior encoded in cultural models into their own behavior. This measurement is then integrated with a measure of individuals' sense of personal agency. In a previous study in urban Brazil, we found that personal agency was associated with higher cultural consonance, which in turn was associated with lower psychological distress; however, those data were from a cross-sectional survey, thus limiting the causal inference. Here we present the results of a follow-up study in which a subset of respondents was re-interviewed on average four years later. These data are consistent with a model in which cultural consonance is the proximate causal influence on psychological distress, while personal agency is a distal or exogenous influence. Eco-anxiety, a growing psychological concern, affects an increasing number of individuals distressed about environmental degradation and climate change. Morita therapy, a psychological approach developed in Japan, that emphasizes acceptance and action has potential applicability for treating modern anxieties such as eco-anxiety. An illustrative case report focusing on Waltraud M., a 29-year-old legal professional experiencing eco-anxiety is used as an example for the basis of exploring eco-anxiety in general and Morita therapy more specifically. The therapeutic intervention was conducted over several months, and the progress was documented through therapeutic diary entries, which detailed her emotional state and actions. Waltraud reported significant improvements in managing her anxiety. Initially overwhelmed by her ecological concerns, she learned to channel her anxieties into positive actions, such as making lifestyle adjustments that align with her environmental values. Notably, her ability to focus on immediate actions rather than future uncertainties helped reduce her anxiety symptoms. Morita therapy proved beneficial in managing Waltraud's eco-anxiety by facilitating a shift from passive worry to active engagement with life's challenges. The therapy's focus on accepting emotions as they are, without trying to change them, and prioritizing meaningful action was effective in reducing the psychological distress associated with eco-anxiety. While promising, these findings are based on a single case report, and further research involving diverse populations and control groups is necessary to generalize the results and fully ascertain the therapy's efficacy across different cultural and clinical settings. Objective: Understanding both the positive and negative psychological outcomes among cancer patients during the pandemic is critical for planning post-pandemic cancer care. This study (1) examined levels of psychological distress and post-traumatic growth (PTG) among Canadian cancer patients during the COVID-19 pandemic and (2) explored variables that were associated with psychological distress and PTG during the pandemic using a biopsychosocial framework. Method: A cross-section survey was undertaken of patients receiving ongoing care at a regional cancer centre in Ontario, Canada, between February and December 2021. Self-reported questionnaires assessing sociodemographic information, social difficulties, psychological distress (depression, anxiety fear of recurrence, and emotional distress), PTG, illness perceptions, and behavioural responses to the pandemic were administered. Disease-related information was extracted from patient health records. Results: Prevalences of moderate to severe levels of depression, anxiety, fear of recurrence and emotional distress were reported by 26.0%, 21.2%, 44.2%, and 50.0% of the sample (N = 104), respectively. Approximately 43% of the sample reported experiencing high PTG, and these positive experiences were not associated with levels of distress. Social factors, including social difficulties, being female, lower education, and unemployment status were prominent associative factors of patient distress. Perceptions of the pandemic as threatening, adopting more health safety behaviours, and not being on active treatment also increased patient likelihood to experience severe psychological distress. Younger age and adopting more health safety behaviours increased the likelihood of experiencing high PTG. The discriminatory power of the predictive models was strong, with a C-statistic > 0.80. Conclusions: Examining both the positive and negative psychological patient outcomes during the pandemic has highlighted the complex range of coping responses. Interventions that adopt a multi-pronged approach to screen and address social distress, as well as to leverage health safety behaviours, may improve the adjustments in the pandemic aftermath. Background: Visual impairment is a global problem and, regardless of the cause, it substantially impacts people's daily lives. Navigating towns and cities can be one of the most difficult tasks for someone with a visual impairment. This is because our streetscapes are often inaccessible for navigating safely and independently by people with a visual impairment. Barriers include street clutter, bollards, pavement parking, and shared spaces. Methodology: Participants with varying levels of diabetic retinopathy (DR) and retinitis pigmentosa (RP) were recruited. Each participant completed a clinical visit and a 1-mile walk. Participants discussed confidence, anxiety, difficulty, and any barriers encountered while completing the walkaround. Participants completed quality of life (RetDQol), diabetes distress scales, and a study questionnaire. They also underwent retinal imaging and visual function testing. Retinal imaging and visual function results were compared with confidence, difficulty, and anxiety levels during the walkaround using Spearman's correlation. Results: Thirty-three participants took part in the study, 22 with diabetes and 11 with RP. Results showed that average confidence was correlated with visual acuity, RetDQol, mean visual fields, and vertical peripheral diameter visual fields. Average difficulty was associated with visual acuity, RetDQol, dark adaptation, mean visual fields, percentage of the retina, and both horizontal and vertical diameter visual fields. In addition, some of the barriers discussed were pavement issues, bollards, parked cars, uneven pavements, alfresco dining, light levels, and street features such as tree roots, poles, A-boards, and street clutter. Conclusions: People with RP and treated DR faced common barriers while navigating the walkaround. Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a life-changing event that often results in chronic physical damage and challenges in maintaining a good quality of life as it affects every aspect of life. These situations require adjustment, increasing vulnerability to psychological disorders. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of SCI on psychological morbidity in individuals with subacute and chronic SCI. The present investigation was designed to determine the presence and extent of psychological complications following SCI. We used two reliable questionnaires and validated psychological assessments to study depression (BDI) and anxiety (STAI), a broad range of factors derived from SCI that may be predictors of certain psychological problems. The psychological assessment revealed alterations in depression and anxiety, although the data do not exceed those of previous investigations. No clear predisposing factors leading to certain psychological pathologies were found. In addition, individuals in the subacute and chronic stages differed in their scores. In individuals with SCI, identifying predictors of psychological problems is difficult, but premature assessment of mental state is essential. This early diagnosis of possible problems or changes at the mental level is fundamental and necessary to avoid possible alterations at the cognitive level and, of course, more serious mental complications. (1) Background: During and after the pandemic, individuals with type 1 and type 2 diabetes struggled to maintain a healthy lifestyle due to psychological distress and the struggle to accommodate contextual challenges and changes in their family and work obligations and expectations. This study aims to explore the long-term impacts of the pandemic on proactive self-management behaviors and outcomes that consider contextual and environmental factors, such as family and work dynamics. (2) Methods: In this mixed-method study, data were collected from 418 participants using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), followed by 16 individual interviews. (3) Results: The prevalence of depression was 37.1%, that of anxiety was 59.1%, and that of insomnia was 66.3%. Significant differences were observed in anxiety by age (p = 0.02), while individuals with other comorbidities were more likely to report insomnia (p = 0.3). Overall, various challenges during the pandemic have exacerbated emotional distress and complicated self-care routines and adherence to healthy lifestyles. (5) Conclusions: The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted individuals with type 1 and 2 diabetes to adopt alternative health-management methods, such as self-care, proactive initiatives, and daily challenges. Pregnancy involves various physiological, physical, and social changes that can impact the mental health of the woman, causing her to have a stressful experience. Physical fitness (PF) is postulated as a powerful marker of health in this population. Therefore, this longitudinal study examined the association of PF with maternal emotional well-being and ill-being outcomes at 16th and 34th gestational weeks (g.w.) in a sample of 158 pregnant women (32.9 ± 4.7 years old). Self-reported PF was assessed with the valid and feasible International Fitness Scale [i.e., overall PF, cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF), muscular strength, speed–agility, and flexibility]; positive and negative affect, emotional intelligence, and resilience were measured using validated questionnaires specifically designed for this purpose. The results showed that women with greater overall PF and its components showed higher positive affect and lower negative affect (all, p < 0.05); greater emotional intelligence (all, p < 0.05); and greater resilience (all, p < 0.05), with similar results both in the 16th and the 34th g.w. These findings underscore the pivotal role of PF in promoting emotional health and resilience during pregnancy, thereby highlighting the need for integrating PF enhancement strategies in prenatal care programs. Objective: Neurooncological patients are well-known to experience an increased psycho-oncological burden with a negative impact on distress, therapy adherence, quality of life, and finally survival. But still, psycho-oncological screening and support is rare, with ongoing discussion about specific screening time points and impact factors. Therefore, we analysed the psycho-oncologic treatment demand at specific disease-related time points throughout therapy. Methods: In this longitudinal, prospective, single-centre study, patients with malignant brain tumours were screened for increased distress (using the Distress Thermometer), anxiety, depression (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale questionnaire), and health-related quality of life interference (EORTC QLQ C30-BN20 questionnaire) at specific longitudinal time points during therapy. The results were correlated with sociodemographic and clinical data. Results: From 2013 to 2017, 2500 prospective screening data points from 512 malignant brain tumour patients were analysed. DT was identified as a significant predictor for psycho-oncological treatment demand (p < 0.001). Particularly significant time points concerning psycho-oncological burden were primary diagnosis and tumour recurrence. Next to these known factors, here, patients < 65 years old and female patients (p = 0.018 and p = 0.017) reflected increased screening results, whereas partnership and professional activity (p = 0.043; p = 0.017) were identified as contributing factors to a significantly decreased treatment demand. Conclusions: The increased need for psycho-oncological support for neurooncological patients is underlined. Psycho-oncological support should particularly be offered at the time points of primary diagnosis and tumour recurrence. Adolescence, a critical period of physical and psychological development, presents unique challenges in type 1 diabetes (T1D) management due to endocrinological changes, reduced therapeutic adherence, and elevated susceptibility to psychological issues such as depression, anxiety, and eating disorders. This narrative review explores the impact of psychological and behavioral factors on glycemic control in adolescents with T1D. We examine the prevalence and influence of mental health disorders, lifestyle factors, harmful behaviors, and social dynamics on diabetes management and glycemic outcomes. Strategies for improving metabolic control are also reviewed, including cognitive behavioral therapy, technological devices, and educational interventions. The importance of tailored psychological support, family involvement, and targeted interventions to improve adherence to treatment and glycemic control in adolescents with T1D should be emphasized. Introduction: Caring for the dying can generate anxiety and emotional distress, particularly in nursing students, and perceived competence could play a crucial role in enabling nurses to perform their duties with greater confidence. Unfortunately, few studies describe the relationship between students' nursing attitudes and perceived self-efficacy in palliative care (PC). To overcome this gap, this survey aimed to assess the attitudes towards dying patients and the perceived competence of nursing students in palliative care at different universities in the south of Italy. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from September 2022 to March 2023 involving nursing students from the three major Sicilian universities (Italy). The study included a survey investigating socio-demographic characteristics, palliative care training, knowledge about pain management, and previous experience with dying. Moreover, the Professional Competence of the Core Curriculum in Palliative Care Nursing (CCPCN) questionnaire and the Frommelt Attitudes Toward Care of the Dying—B Italian version (FATCOD-B-I) assessed competencies and emotional attitudes. Results: A total of 1913 nursing students were recruited, of which 71.3% were females, and 53.9% were in the age range of 18 to 21 years. In the multivariable analysis, practical PC training was a substantial factor in enhancing competencies (Adj-OR 2.78 [95% CI = 2.12–3.65]). Male students had higher competence odds (Adj-OR 1.38 [95% CI = 1.14–1.66]), and perceived knowledge strongly correlated with self-assessed competence. Advancement in academic years also positively influenced competence self-assessment (Adj-OR 1.98 [95% CI = 1.75–2.24]). Regarding emotional attitudes, a per-quartile increase in competence score was found to improve the attitude score (Adj-OR 1.24 [95% CI = 1.13–1.35]). Conclusions: Nursing students gain valuable experience during clinical experience. PC training and perceived knowledge of PC significantly increase nurses' competencies, and the latter seem to be strongly associated with attitudes. Dementia increases dependence in older adults and decreases their quality of life and that of their family members. These family members often take on the responsibility of caregiving and suffer from burden and health deterioration due to facing various stressors. The aim is to verify the effectiveness of existing interventions aimed at relieving the burden and stress of informal caregivers of older people with dementia. A scoping review was conducted by consulting the Web of Science, Scopus, ProQuest, and PubMed databases, following the guidelines of the PRISMA 2020 Statement. The review protocol has been registered in PROSPERO under number CRD42024558609. Twenty-six articles met the inclusion criteria and were reviewed, studying the type of intervention design, the sample size of caregivers and their main characteristics, the duration and follow-up, and the variables investigated with their respective measurement instruments. The analysis of the different studies showed that the most developed types of interventions are psychoeducational and cognitive-behavioral therapies, both individual and group. These interventions were mainly effective in reducing the burden and depressive symptoms of caregivers. It is considered advisable to implement more randomized controlled trials for further research, because as the number of caregivers increases, so does the need for affordable and effective interventions. Background: Moral Distress (MD) is a unique form of distress that occurs when people believe they know the ethically correct action to take but are constrained from doing so. Limited clinical experience and insufficient ethical knowledge contribute to nursing students' MD, which can potentially cause negative outcomes. The aims of this study are: (1) to describe the MD intensity of nursing students, and (2) to analyze differences and associations between MD intensity and socio-demographic and academic variables. Methods: A cross-sectional study design with a convenience sample of the second, third, and delayed graduation students was included; only students willing to participate and who had attended their scheduled internships in the last six months were eligible for inclusion. To measure the level of MD, we used the It-ESMEE. We collected socio-demographic and academic variables. The data collection occurred from January 2024 to March 2024. Results: The students who adhered to the collection were N = 344. The findings reveal that the students perceived a high level of MD in situations related to clinical internship and class. They perceived higher levels of MD when nursing was not their first career choice, were separated or divorced, did not have children, and were not an employed student. The overall MD score is statistically significantly lower among students who had nursing as their first career choice (β = −0.267, p < 0.05), have children (β = −0.470, p < 0.01), and are employed (β = −0.417, p < 0.01). In contrast, being separated or divorced (β = 0.274, p < 0.01) was associated with a higher MD score. Conclusions: This study has some limitations: data reflect a local context, and the findings may not be generalizable to other regions or educational environments. Additionally, students' recollections of their experiences could be influenced by the passage of time, and there may be a selection bias since only students willing to participate were included. The findings suggest that nursing education programs should incorporate more robust training in ethical decision-making and stress management to better prepare students for the moral challenges in their professional practice. The spread of antimicrobial resistance is a global health concern, and resistance mediated by Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamases (ESBLs) can cause major consequences. The aim of this study was to explore individuals' perceptions of their daily life and how they cope after being diagnosed with carriage of ESBL-producing bacteria. A qualitative study was conducted with a descriptive design. Data were collected through individual interviews with 24 persons having ESBL carriership, via a semi-structured interview guide. The data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis. The informants' perceptions on "Living with uncertainty about carriership that impacts oneself and others" were interpreted. Experiences of altered behaviors and sentiments due to ESBL carriership were described, as ESBL carriership was perceived to have a psychosocial impact on many informants. Ambiguous and inconsistent information tended to exacerbate these perceptions. The results of this study emphasize the importance of conveying individualized information, both at the time of diagnosis of ESBL carriage and thereafter. This study was not registered. The early 2020s witnessed an unprecedented overlap of multiple global crises. This longitudinal study examined the compounded effects of multiple intersecting global crises on mental health outcomes in a representative cohort of East German adults. We investigated how perceived threats (PT) from climate change (PT-CLC), COVID-19 (PT-COV), the Russia–Ukraine War (PT-RUW), and rising costs of living (PT-RCL) will impact various aspects of mental health from 2021 to 2022. This research question addresses whether these crises exacerbate mental health issues and how their effects differ across various mental health outcomes. Methods: We conducted a longitudinal study with 319 participants (mean age 49.9 years, 54.5% female) from the Saxony Longitudinal Study. Data were collected in two waves: March–July 2021 and September–December 2022. We used linear mixed-effects models to analyze both unadjusted group trends and adjusted individual-level effects on physical complaints, mental distress, sleep problems, life satisfaction, and self-rated health. Results: Unadjusted analyses revealed significant increases in mental distress and sleep problems over time, whereas physical complaints, life satisfaction, and self-rated health remained stable at the group level. Adjusted analyses showed that higher PT-RCL and PT-COV were significantly associated with increased physical complaints, mental distress, sleep problems, and decreased life satisfaction, even when group-level changes were not significant. Conclusions: This study highlights the complex impact of intersecting global crises on mental health, emphasizing the importance of considering both population-level trends and individual perceptions. The findings suggest that economic and pandemic-related stressors have more immediate effects on mental health outcomes compared to more distant threats, such as climate change or geopolitical conflicts. The study aims to investigate the prevalence of depression and anxiety among cancer patients and identify some of the associated risk factors. Advancements in cancer treatment and early detection have extended survival rates, transforming many cancers into chronic conditions. However, cancer diagnosis and treatment can trigger significant psychological distress, including depression and anxiety, impacting patient outcomes and care. This study aimed to examine the prevalence of and identify the risk factors for depression and anxiety among cancer patients. A cross-sectional study was conducted, including patients under the care of the oncology department at a tertiary medical center between June 2021 and October 2023. Depression and anxiety were assessed using the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS) short forms. Logistic regression analysis identified risk factors for depression and anxiety. The study population included 159 patients, with 40.3% reporting worsening mental health, but only about half of them received therapy. Among the study participants, 22.6% experienced symptoms of depression and 30.2% experienced symptoms of anxiety. Single-cancer patients and those with metastases were at increased risk for depression, while those with a disease duration of more than a year and patients with female-specific cancer were more likely to experience anxiety. Given the high prevalence of mental health deterioration in cancer patients, closer monitoring and validated assessment tools are essential to improve depression and anxiety diagnosis and facilitate early interventions. The effect of dietary fiber intake on mental health is controversial. This study aimed to examine the association of fiber intake with mental health in Korean adults. This cross-sectional study included 11,288 participants aged ≥40 years who participated in the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study (2004–2013). Fiber intake was assessed using a food frequency questionnaire and categorized into sex-specific quintiles. Multiple logistic regression models were used to investigate the association between the lowest quintile of fiber intake and poor mental health. Mental health was assessed using acute stress perception, the Psychosocial Well-Being Index-Short Form, self-rated health, and the Center for Epidemiological Studies–Depression Scale in Korea. Compared to those with higher fiber intake, having the lowest quintile of fiber intake was associated with higher odds of poor mental health risk, a higher risk of high-stress perception, poor psychosocial distress in males, poor psychosocial distress, and depression in females. Low fiber intake had profound negative mental health effects on males with high total energy intake and females with low total energy intake. The aim of this study was to quantify the multivariate relationships between clinical, cognitive performance, executive functioning, and psychological outcomes in women with fibromyalgia (FMS) using network analyses. Demographic (age, height, weight), clinical (pain history, pain intensity, and related disability), neurocognitive (D2 Attention test, Rey-Osterrieth Complex Figure for visual perception, "Digits D/R/I" tests of the WAIS-IV battery for working memory, the 5-Digit Test for mental inhibition, the Symbol Search for processing speed and the Zoo Test for planning/decision making) and psychological (depressive symptoms, anxiety levels, sleep quality, pain hypervigilance) variables were collected in 129 women with FMS and 111 healthy women. Network analyses were conducted separately for each group to quantify the adjusted correlations between the modeled variables and to assess their centrality indices (i.e., connectivity with other symptoms in the network and their importance in the network). The network identified 74 associations in FMS women and 46 associations in controls with small differences. The strongest correlations in both groups were found between different attention variables: d2_CON with d2_C, d2_O with d_2TR, and d2_CON with d2_TA. The most central variables were d2_TA, d2_C, and d2_CON (highest strength centrality in both groups) and anxiety levels and pain hypervigilance (highest harmonic centrality in FMS women). The strength centrality of the network was stable for women with FMS (CScor0.7: 0.68) but not for healthy women (CScor0.7: 0.28). This study found that attention variables are most relevant within a neurocognitive network and that psychological variables are most important for the treatment of women with FMS.
