Waterborne illnesses lead to millions of fatalities worldwide each year, particularly in developing nations. In this paper, we introduce a comprehensive system designed for the autonomous early detection of viral outbreaks transmitted through water to ensure sustainable access to healthy water resources, especially in remote areas. The system utilizes an autonomous water quality monitoring setup consisting of an airborne water sample collector, an autonomous sample processor, and an artificial intelligence-aided microscopic detector for risk assessment. The proposed system replaces the time-consuming conventional monitoring protocol by automating sample collection, sample processing, and pathogen detection. Furthermore, it provides a safer processing method against the spillage of contaminated liquids and potential resultant aerosols during the heat fixation of specimens. A morphological image processing technique of light microscopic images is used to segment images, assisting in selecting a unified appropriate input segment size based on individual blob areas of different bacterial cultures. The dataset included harmful pathogenic bacteria (A. baumanii, E. coli, and P. aeruginosa) and harmless ones found in drinking water and wastewater (E. faecium, L. paracasei, and Micrococcus spp.). The segmented labeled dataset was used to train deep convolutional neural networks to automatically detect pathogens in microscopic images. To minimize prediction error, Bayesian optimization was applied to tune the hyperparameters of the networks' architecture and training settings. Different convolutional networks were tested in accordance with different required output labels. The neural network used to classify bacterial cultures as harmful or harmless achieved an accuracy of 99.7%. This study compares bio-inspired optimization algorithms for enhancing an ANN-based Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) forecast system under partial shading conditions in photovoltaic systems. Four algorithms—grey wolf optimizer (GWO), particle swarm optimization (PSO), squirrel search algorithm (SSA), and cuckoo search (CS)—were evaluated, with the dataset augmented by perturbations to simulate shading. The standard ANN performed poorly, with 64 neurons in Layer 1 and 32 in Layer 2 (MSE of 159.9437, MAE of 8.0781). Among the optimized approaches, GWO, with 66 neurons in Layer 1 and 100 in Layer 2, achieved the best prediction accuracy (MSE of 11.9487, MAE of 2.4552) and was computationally efficient (execution time of 1198.99 s). PSO, using 98 neurons in Layer 1 and 100 in Layer 2, minimized MAE (2.1679) but had a slightly longer execution time (1417.80 s). SSA, with the same neuron count as GWO, also performed well (MSE 12.1500, MAE 2.7003) and was the fastest (987.45 s). CS, with 84 neurons in Layer 1 and 74 in Layer 2, was less reliable (MSE 33.7767, MAE 3.8547) and slower (1904.01 s). GWO proved to be the best overall, balancing accuracy and speed. Future real-world applications of this methodology include improving energy efficiency in solar farms under variable weather conditions and optimizing the performance of residential solar panels to reduce energy costs. Many countries encourage their populations to use public urban transport to decrease pollution and traffic congestion. However, this can generate overcrowded routes at certain times and low economic efficiency for public urban transport companies when buses carry few passengers. This article proposes a Public Urban Transport Scheduling System (PUTSS) algorithm for allocating a public urban transport fleet based on the number of passengers waiting for a bus and considering the efficiency of public urban transport companies. The PUTSS algorithm integrates artificial intelligence (AI) methods to identify the number of people waiting at each station through real-time image acquisition. The technique presented is Azure Computer Vision. In a case study, the accuracy of correctly identifying the number of persons in an image was computed using the Microsoft Azure Computer Vision service. The proposed PUTSS algorithm also uses Google Maps Service for congestion-level identification. Employing these modern tools in the algorithm makes improving public urban transport services possible. The algorithm is integrated into a software application developed in C#, simulating a real-world scenario involving two public urban transport vehicles. The dataset includes 3005 records of physiological data from real-world production environments, encompassing environmental parameters, individual animal characteristics, and infrared temperature measurements. Employed machine learning algorithms include elastic net (EN), artificial neural networks (ANN), random forests (RF), extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), light gradient boosting machine (LightGBM), and CatBoost, alongside several optimization algorithms such as Bayesian optimization (BO) and grey wolf optimizer (GWO) to refine model performance through hyperparameter tuning. Comparative analysis of various feature sets reveals that the feature set incorporating the average infrared temperature of the trunk (IRTave_TK) excels in CBT prediction, achieving a coefficient of determination (R2) value of 0.516, mean absolute error (MAE) of 0.239 °C, and root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.302 °C. Further analysis shows that the GWO–XGBoost model surpasses others in predictive accuracy with an R2 value of 0.540, RMSE as low as 0.294 °C, and MAE of just 0.232 °C, and leads in computational efficiency with an optimization time of merely 2.41 s—approximately 4500 times faster than the highest accuracy model. Through SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations) analysis, IRTave_TK, time zone (TZ), days in lactation (DOL), and body posture (BP) are identified as the four most critical factors in predicting CBT, and the interaction effects of IRTave_TK with other features such as body posture and time periods are unveiled. Floating offshore wind turbines (FOWTs) are still in the pre-commercial stage and, although different concepts of FOWTs are being developed, cost is a main barrier to commercializing the FOWT system. This article aims to use a shape parameterization technique within a multidisciplinary design analysis and optimization framework to alter the shape of the FOWT platform with the objective of reducing cost. This cost reduction is then implemented in 30 MW and 60 MW floating offshore wind farms (FOWFs) designed based on the static pitch angle constraints (5 degrees, 7 degrees and 10 degrees) used within the optimization framework to estimate the reduction in the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) in comparison to a FOWT platform without any shape alteration–OC3 spar platform design. Key findings in this work show that an optimal shape alteration of the platform design that satisfies the design requirements, objectives and constraints set within the optimization framework contributes to significantly reducing the CAPEX cost and the LCOE in the floating wind farms considered. This is due to the reduction in the required platform mass for hydrostatic stability when the static pitch angle is increased. The FOWF designed with a 10 degree static pitch angle constraint provided the lowest LCOE value, while the FOWF designed with a 5 degree static pitch angle constraint provided the largest LCOE value, barring the FOWT designed with the OC3 dimension, which is considered to have no inclination. Multi-spectral temperature measurement technology has been found to have extensive applications in engineering practice. Addressing the challenges posed by unknown emissivity in multi-spectral temperature measurement data processing, this paper adds emissivity constraints to the objective function. It proposes a multi-spectral radiation temperature measurement data processing model realized through a particle swarm optimization algorithm improved based on multiple strategies. This paper simulates six material models with distinct emissivity trends. The simulation results indicate that the algorithm calculates an average relative temperature error of less than 0.3%, with an average computation time of merely 0.24 s. When applied to the temperature testing of silicon carbide and tungsten, experimental data further confirmed its accuracy: the absolute temperature error for silicon carbide (tungsten) is less than 4 K (7 K), and the average relative error is below 0.4% (0.3%), while two materials maintain an average computation time of 0.33 s. In summary, the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm demonstrates strong performance and high accuracy in multi-spectral radiation thermometry, making it a feasible solution for addressing multi-spectral temperature measurement challenges in practical engineering applications. To improve the accuracy of camera calibration, a novel optimization method is proposed in this paper, which combines convex lens imaging with the bionic algorithm of Wolf Pack Predation (CLI-WPP). During the optimization process, the internal parameters and radial distortion parameters of the camera are regarded as the search targets of the bionic algorithm of Wolf Pack Predation, and the reprojection error of the calibration results is used as the fitness evaluation criterion of the bionic algorithm of Wolf Pack Predation. The goal of optimizing camera calibration parameters is achieved by iteratively searching for a solution that minimizes the fitness value. To overcome the drawback that the bionic algorithm of Wolf Pack Predation is prone to fall into local optimal, a reverse learning strategy based on convex lens imaging is introduced to transform the current optimal individual and generate a series of new individuals with potential better solutions that are different from the original individual, helping the algorithm out of the local optimum dilemma. The comparative experimental results show that the average reprojection errors of the simulated annealing algorithm, Zhang's calibration method, the sparrow search algorithm, the particle swarm optimization algorithm, bionic algorithm of Wolf Pack Predation, and the algorithm proposed in this paper (CLI-WPP) are 0.42986500, 0.28847656, 0.23543161, 0.219342495, 0.10637477, and 0.06615037, respectively. The results indicate that calibration accuracy, stability, and robustness are significantly improved with the optimization method based on the CLI-WPP, in comparison to the existing commonly used optimization algorithms. This study addresses the limitations of traditional methods used to analyze factors influencing submarine cable burial depth and emphasizes the underutilization of cable construction data. To overcome these limitations, a machine learning-based model is proposed. The model utilizes cable construction data from the East China Sea to predict the weight of factors influencing cable burial depth. Pearson correlation analysis and principal component analysis are initially employed to eliminate feature correlations. The random forest method is then used to determine the weights of factors, followed by the construction of an optimized backpropagation (BP) neural network using the ISOA-BP hybrid optimization algorithm. The model's performance is compared with other machine learning algorithms, including support vector regression, decision tree, gradient decision tree, and the BP network before optimization. The results show that the random forest method effectively quantifies the impact of each factor, with water depth, cable length, deviation, geographic coordinates, and cable laying tension as the significant factors. The constructed ISOA-BP model achieves higher prediction accuracy than traditional algorithms, demonstrating its potential for quality control in cable laying construction and data-driven prediction of cable burial depth. The Dung Beetle Optimization (DBO) algorithm, a well-established swarm intelligence technique, has shown considerable promise in solving complex engineering design challenges. However, it is hampered by limitations such as suboptimal population initialization, sluggish search speeds, and restricted global exploration capabilities. To overcome these shortcomings, we propose an enhanced version termed Adaptive Spiral Strategy Dung Beetle Optimization (ADBO). Key enhancements include the application of the Gaussian Chaos strategy for a more effective population initialization, the integration of the Whale Spiral Search Strategy inspired by the Whale Optimization Algorithm, and the introduction of an adaptive weight factor to improve search efficiency and enhance global exploration capabilities. These improvements collectively elevate the performance of the DBO algorithm, significantly enhancing its ability to address intricate real-world problems. We evaluate the ADBO algorithm against a suite of benchmark algorithms using the CEC2017 test functions, demonstrating its superiority. The climate crisis necessitates a global shift to achieve a secure, sustainable, and affordable energy system toward a green energy transition reaching climate neutrality by 2050. Because of this, renewable energy sources have come to the forefront, and the research interest in microgrids that rely on distributed generation and storage systems has exploded. Furthermore, many new markets for energy trading, ancillary services, and frequency reserve markets have provided attractive investment opportunities in exchange for balancing the supply and demand of electricity. Artificial intelligence can be utilized to locally optimize energy consumption, trade energy with the main grid, and participate in these markets. Reinforcement learning (RL) is one of the most promising approaches to achieve this goal because it enables an agent to learn optimal behavior in a microgrid by executing specific actions that maximize the long-term reward signal/function. The study focuses on testing two optimization algorithms: logic-based optimization and reinforcement learning. This paper builds on the existing research framework by combining PPO with machine learning-based load forecasting to produce an optimal solution for an industrial microgrid in Norway under different pricing schemes, including day-ahead pricing and peak pricing. It addresses the peak shaving and price arbitrage challenges by taking the historical data into the algorithm and making the decisions according to the energy consumption pattern, battery characteristics, PV production, and energy price. The RL-based approach is implemented in Python based on real data from the site and in combination with MATLAB-Simulink to validate its results. The application of the RL algorithm achieved an average monthly cost saving of 20% compared with logic-based optimization. The challenge of distributing molten iron involves the optimal allocation of blast furnace output to various steelmaking furnaces, considering the blast furnace's production capacity and the steelmaking converter's consumption capacity. The primary objective is to prioritize the distribution from the blast furnace to achieve a balance between iron and steel production while ensuring that the volume of hot metal within the system remains within a safe range. To address this, a constrained multi-objective nonlinear programming model is abstracted. A linear weighting method combines multiple objectives into a single objective function, while the Lagrange multiplier method addresses constraints. Featured Application: The maximal vertical distance (MVD) algorithm is intended to be used for the discretization of stress–strain metallic material curves for defining a multilinear material model when conducting a finite element analysis of engineering components with included material nonlinearities. The maximal vertical distance (MVD) recursive algorithm, a novel approach for the optimal discretization of stress–strain material curves, is proposed. The algorithm simplifies the process of defining multilinear curves from material stress–strain curves when conducting a finite element analysis (FEA) of components. By directly selecting points on the material curve, the MVD algorithm eliminates the requirement for initial discretization, thereby minimizing information loss. As the measure of goodness of fit of the simplified polyline to the original curve, the percentage of stress deviation (SD) is proposed. The algorithm can generate multiple multilinear curves while keeping the stress deviation of each curve within a predefined limit. This feature is particularly beneficial during the finite element analysis of components exhibiting complex and position-dependent material properties, such as surface-hardened components, ensuring consistent modelling accuracy of material properties across the components' geometry. Consistent accuracy also proves advantageous when exploring multiple differing material states of quenched and tempered steel, ensuring fair and reliable comparisons. Surface subsidence hazards in mining areas are common geological disasters involving issues such as vegetation degradation and ground collapse during the mining process, which also raise safety concerns. To address the accuracy issues of traditional prediction models and study methods for predicting subsidence in open-pit mining areas, this study first employed 91 scenes of Sentinel-1A ascending and descending orbits images to monitor long-term deformations of a phosphate mine in Anning City, Yunnan Province, southwestern China. It obtained annual average subsidence rates and cumulative surface deformation values for the study area. Subsequently, a two-dimensional deformation decomposition was conducted using a time-series registration interpolation method to determine the distribution of vertical and east–west deformations. Finally, three prediction models were employed: Back Propagation Neural Network (BPNN), BPNN optimized by Genetic Algorithm (GA-BP), and BPNN optimized by Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm (ABC-BP). These models were used to forecast six selected time series points. The results indicate that the BPNN model had Mean Absolute Errors (MAE) and Root Mean Squared Errors (RMSE) within 7.6 mm, while the GA-BP model errors were within 3.5 mm, and the ABC-BP model errors were within 3.7 mm. In Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of bridges, accurately assessing damage is critical to maintaining the safety and integrity of a structure. One of the primary challenges in damage assessment is the precise localization and quantification of defects, which is essential for making timely maintenance decisions and reducing the risk of structural failures. This paper introduces a novel damage detection method for SHM of a truss bridge by coupling a Deep Neural Network (DNN) model with an evolved Artificial Rabbit Optimization (EVARO) algorithm. The integration of DNN with the stochastic search capability of the EVARO algorithm helps to avoid local minima, thereby ensuring more accurate and reliable results. Additionally, the optimization algorithm's effectiveness is further enhanced by incorporating evolving predator features and the Cauchy motion search mechanism. The proposed method is first validated using various data benchmark problems, demonstrating its effectiveness compared to other well-known algorithms. Secondly, a case study involving the Chuong Duong truss bridge under different simulated damage scenarios further confirms the superiority of the proposed method in both localizing and quantifying damages. In any Bayesian computations, the first step is to derive the joint distribution of all the unknown variables given the observed data. Then, we have to do the computations. There are four general methods for performing computations: Joint MAP optimization; Posterior expectation computations that require integration methods; Sampling-based methods, such as MCMC, slice sampling, nested sampling, etc., for generating samples and numerically computing expectations; and finally, Variational Bayesian Approximation (VBA). In this last method, which is the focus of this paper, the objective is to search for an approximation for the joint posterior with a simpler one that allows for analytical computations. The main tool in VBA is to use the Kullback–Leibler Divergence (KLD) as a criterion to obtain that approximation. Even if, theoretically, this can be conducted formally, for practical reasons, we consider the case where the joint distribution is in the exponential family, and so is its approximation. In this case, the KLD becomes a function of the usual parameters or the natural parameters of the exponential family, where the problem becomes parametric optimization. Thus, we compare four optimization algorithms: general alternate functional optimization; parametric gradient-based with the normal and natural parameters; and the natural gradient algorithm. A metaheuristic algorithm named the Crystal Structure Algorithm (CrSA), which is inspired by the symmetric arrangement of atoms, molecules, or ions in crystalline minerals, has been used for the accurate modeling of Mono Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell (PERC) WSMD-545 and CS7L-590 MS solar photovoltaic (PV) modules. The suggested algorithm is a concise and parameter-free approach that does not need the identification of any intrinsic parameter during the optimization stage. It is based on crystal structure generation by combining the basis and lattice point. The proposed algorithm is adopted to minimize the sum of the squares of the errors at the maximum power point, as well as the short circuit and open circuit points. Several runs are carried out to examine the V-I characteristics of the PV panels under consideration and the nature of the derived parameters. The parameters generated by the proposed technique offer the lowest error over several executions, indicating that it should be implemented in the present scenario. To validate the performance of the proposed approach, convergence curves of Mono PERC WSMD-545 and CS7L-590 MS PV modules obtained using the CrSA are compared with the convergence curves obtained using the recent optimization algorithms (OAs) in the literature. This paper presents an extensive study on the electrochemical, shunt currents, and hydraulic modeling of a vanadium redox flow battery of m stacks and n cells per stack. The shunt currents model of the battery has been developed through the use of Kirchoff's laws, taking into account the different design cases that can occur and enumerating the equations of nodes and meshes specifying them so that the software implementation can be performed in a direct way. The hydraulic model has been developed by numerical methods. These models are put to work simultaneously in order to simulate the behavior of a VRFB battery during charging and discharging, obtaining the pressure losses and shunt currents that occur in the battery. Using these models, and by using a PSO-type optimization algorithm, specifically designed for discrete variables, the battery design is optimized in order to minimize the round-trip efficiency losses due to pressure losses and shunt currents. In the optimization of the battery design, value is given to the number of stacks in which the total number of cells in the battery is distributed and the dimensions of the piping relative to both the stacks and the cells. Aiming at the problem that the existing harmonic detection methods are susceptible to noise interference in the actual working environment, which leads to the reduction of detection accuracy, this paper introduces a novel harmonic detection technique utilizing a RIME optimization algorithm (RIME) to enhance variational mode decomposition (VMD) combined with an improved wavelet threshold (IWT) approach. Initially, RIME optimization refines VMD for the decomposition of harmonic current signals, yielding several modal components. Subsequently, a correlation coefficient method distinguishes between effective and ineffective modal components, discarding the latter. The effective components undergo noise reduction through an enhanced wavelet thresholding technique, and these denoised components are then reconstructed to produce the final noise-reduced signal. Finally, the Hilbert transform is applied to the denoised signal to extract harmonic parameters. Verification through both simulated and actual signal measurements demonstrates that the proposed method not only surpasses other noise reduction algorithms in signal-to-noise ratio and root-mean-square error, but also shows superior accuracy and robustness compared to alternative detection techniques. An efficient design method for a compact and ultra-wideband multi-stage Wilkinson power divider in a parallel stripline (PSL) is proposed. To enhance the frequency bandwidth of the proposed power divider while reducing its size, the isolation branch is modified; that is, two capacitors are connected to both sides of a resistor at each isolation branch. For an efficient design process, the PSL power divider is equivalently represented by two microstrip power dividers, and the design equations are derived. Based on the design equations, an in-house algorithm is utilized to optimally determine the design parameters, including the line impedance, resistance, and capacitance of each stage. For example, a three-stage PSL power divider is designed with three λ / 4 transmission lines at a base frequency of 5 GHz. To verify the accuracy of the design procedure, 3D EM simulations and measurements are performed, and the results show good agreement. Compared with the conventional three-stage Wilkinson power divider, the proposed PSL power divider achieves a wider frequency bandwidth of 1.16 to 6.51 GHz (139.5%) and a 23% shorter transmission line length of 207°, while exhibiting an insertion loss of 0.7 to 1.4 dB. The optimization algorithm plays a crucial role in image recognition by neural networks. However, it is challenging to accelerate the model's convergence and maintain high precision. As a commonly used stochastic gradient descent optimization algorithm, the momentum method requires many epochs to find the optimal parameters during model training. The velocity of its gradient descent depends solely on the historical gradients and is not subject to random fluctuations. To address this issue, an optimization algorithm to enhance the gradient descent velocity, i.e., the momentum reacceleration gradient descent (MRGD), is proposed. The algorithm utilizes the point division of the current momentum and the gradient relationship, multiplying it with the gradient. It can adjust the update rate and step size of the parameters based on the gradient descent state, so as to achieve faster convergence and higher precision in training the deep learning model. The effectiveness of this method is further proven by applying the reacceleration mechanism to the Adam optimizer, resulting in the MRGDAdam algorithm. We verify both algorithms using multiple image classification datasets, and the experimental results show that the proposed optimization algorithm enables the model to achieve higher recognition accuracy over a small number of training epochs, as well as speeding up model implementation. To address this gap, our study aims to (1) employ a hybrid approach, integrating conventional methods with cutting-edge machine-learning technology for predicting consumer's decision-making behaviors in purchasing sustainable products; (2) demonstrate the practical application of this hybrid approach through the example of green furniture; and (3) provide a practical guide for identifying the importance of factors influencing consumers' decision-making behaviors in purchasing sustainable products. Continuous advancements in GNSS systems have led, apart from the broadly used GPS, to the development of other satellite systems (Galileo, BeiDou, GLONASS), which have significantly increased the number of available satellites for GNSS positioning applications. However, despite GNSS satellites' redundancy, a potential poor GNSS satellite signal (i.e., low signal-to-noise ratio) can negatively affect the GNSS's performance and positioning accuracy. On the other hand, selecting high-quality GNSS satellite signals by retaining a sufficient number of GNSS satellites can enhance the GNSS's positioning performance. Various methods, including optimization algorithms, which are also commonly adopted in artificial intelligence (AI) methods, have been applied for satellite selection. In this study, five optimization algorithms were investigated and assessed in terms of their ability to determine the optimal GNSS satellite constellation, such as Artificial Bee Colony optimization (ABC), Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Genetic Algorithm (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), and Simulated Annealing (SA). The assessment of the optimization algorithms was based on two criteria, such as the robustness of the solution for the optimal satellite constellation and the time required to find the solution. The selection of the GNSS satellites was based on the weighted geometric dilution of precision (WGDOP) parameter, where the geometric dilution of precision (GDOP) is modified by applying weights based on the quality of the satellites' signal. The optimization algorithms were tested on the basis of 24 h of tracking data gathered from a permanent GNSS station, for GPS-only and multi-GNSS data (GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo). According to the comparison results, the ABC, ACO, and PSO algorithms were equivalent in terms of selection accuracy and speed. However, ABC was determined to be the most suitable algorithm due it requiring the fewest number of parameters to be set. To further investigate ABC's performance, the method was applied for the selection of an optimal GNSS satellite subset according to the number of total available tracked GNSS satellites (up to 31 satellites), leading to more than 300 million possible combinations of 15 GNSS satellites. Analyzing the development trend of non-conventional water resources and identifying the main influencing factors is the initial step toward rapidly increasing the utilization and allocation of these resources in a rational and scientific manner. This will help relieve pressure on water resources and improve the ecological environment. This study introduces the concept of comparison testing and employs advanced Dematel and Random Forest models to identify two sets of optimal indicators from a pool of nine. Based on the two best indicator sets, three prediction models—BP neural network, Particle Swarm Optimization-optimized BP neural network, and Genetic neural network—were used to forecast the future potential of non-conventional water resource use in Heilongjiang Province. The findings reveal that economic indicators are the most significant factors influencing Heilongjiang Province's utilization of non-conventional water resources. Recently, discontinuous polymer flooding has been proposed and successfully applied in some offshore oilfields. The performance of discontinuous polymer flooding depends on various operational parameters, such as injection timing, polymer concentrations, and crosslinker concentrations of four types of chemical slugs. Because the number of the operational parameters are large and they are nonlinearly related, the traditional reservoir numerical simulation might not simultaneously obtain the optimal results of these operational parameters. In this study, to simulate the discontinuous polymer flooding processes, a simulation model was built using a commercial reservoir simulator (CMG STARS), in which the mechanisms of the four types of chemical slugs were considered, such as polymer viscosification, adsorption, and degradation. Then, a PSO–ICA algorithm was developed by using the PSO algorithm to improve the exploration ability of the ICA algorithm. The codes were written with MATLAB and linked to CMG STARS to perform optimization processes. Finally, the PSO–ICA algorithm was compared with the ICA and PSO algorithms on benchmark functions to verify its reliability and applied to optimize a discontinuous polymer flooding process in a typical offshore oilfield in Bohai Bay, China. The results showed that the developed PSO–ICA algorithm had lower iteration numbers, higher optimization accuracy, and faster convergence rate than these of PSO and ICA, indicating that it was an effective method for optimizing the operational parameters of discontinuous polymer flooding processes. Compared to the continuous polymer flooding, the discontinuous polymer flooding had a higher oil production rate, a lower water cut, and a lower residual oil saturation. The net present value of the optimal scheme of discontinuous polymer flooding reached 7.49 × 108 $, which is an increase of 6% over that of the scheme of continuous polymer flooding. More research including selecting more reasonable parameters of the PSO–ICA algorithm to increase its optimization accuracy and convergence rate, comparing with other available optimization algorithms, and verifying the performance of the optimal scheme of discontinuous polymer flooding in the practical offshore oilfield will be required in the future. This study exhibits the possibility of using an artificial neural network (ANN) to model the mechanical behavior of wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) for Inconel 625. For this reason, tensile tests of Inconel 625 superalloy as-built (AB) samples and samples after heat treatment at 1200 °C (HT-1200) by WAAM were performed. For the HT-1200 samples, the yield stress decreased, and the elongation increased significantly due to grain refinement and the formation of annealed twins. A new hybrid model combining a swarm intelligence optimization algorithm with a back propagation neural network (BPNN) was developed to simulate the flow behavior of the superalloy. Compared with other hybrid BPNN models that have been reported, the proposed BPNN model is in better agreement with the experimental data and provides a better description of the flow stress of the Inconel 625 superalloy. The excellent predictive ability of the model may be attributed to the optimization of the weights and thresholds of the BPNN, which obtains the optimal global solution in the search space more efficiently. Acoustic imaging technology has the advantages of non-contact and intuitive positioning. It is suitable for the rapid positioning of defects such as the mechanical loosening, discharge, and DC bias of power equipment. However, the existing research lacks the optimization design of microphone array topology. The acoustic frequency domain characteristics of typical power equipment are elaborately sorted out. After that, the cut-off frequencies of acoustic imaging instruments are determined, to meet the needs of the full bandwidth test requirements. Through a simulation calculation, the circular array is demonstrated to be the optimal shape. And the design parameters affect the imaging performance of the array to varying degrees, indicating that it is difficult to obtain the optimal array topology by an exhaustive method. Aimed at the complex working conditions of power equipment, a topology optimization design method of an acoustic imaging array for power equipment is proposed, and the global optimal solution of microphone array topology is obtained. Compared with the original array, the imaging performance of the improved LF and HF array is promoted by 54% and 49%, respectively. Combined with the simulation analysis and laboratory test, it is verified that the improved array can not only accurately locate the single sound source but also accurately identify the main sound source from the interference of the contiguous sound source. Wireless communication tower placement arises in many real-world applications. This paper investigates a new emerging wireless communication tower placement problem, namely, continuous space wireless communication tower placement. Unlike existing wireless communication tower placement problems, which are discrete computational problems, this new wireless communication tower placement problem is a continuous space computational problem. In this paper, we formulate the new wireless communication tower placement problem and propose a hybrid simulated annealing algorithm that can take advantage of the powerful exploration capacity of simulated annealing and the strong exploitation capacity of a local optimization procedure. We also demonstrate through experiments the effectiveness of this hybridization technique and the good performance and scalability of the hybrid simulated annulling in this paper. This paper introduces a groundbreaking approach to demand response management, aiming to empower consumers through innovative strategies. The key contribution is the concept of "acquiring flexibility rights", wherein consumers engage with power aggregators to curtail energy usage during peak-load periods, receiving incentives in return. A flexibility right coefficient is introduced, allowing consumers to tailor their participation in demand response programs, ensuring their well-being. Additionally, a lighting intensity control system is developed to enhance residential lighting network efficiency. The study demonstrates that high-energy consumers, adopting a satisfaction factor of 10, can achieve over 61% in electricity cost savings by combining the lighting control system and active participation in demand response programs. This not only reduces expenses but also generates income through the sale of flexibility rights. Conversely, low-energy consumers can fully offset their expenses and accumulate over USD 33 in earnings through the installation of solar panels. This paper formulates an optimization problem considering flexibility rights, lighting control, and time-of-use tariff rates. An algorithm is proposed for a distributed solution, and a sensitivity analysis is conducted for evaluation. The proposed method showcases significant benefits, including cost savings and income generation for consumers, while contributing to grid stability and reduced blackout occurrences. The mass introduction of renewable energy sources (RESs) presents numerous challenges for transmission system operators (TSOs). The Italian TSO, Terna S.p.A., aims to assess the impact of inverter-based generation on system inertia, primary regulating energy and short-circuit power for the year 2030, characterized by a large penetration of these sources. The initial working point of the Italian transmission network has to be defined through load flow (LF) calculations before starting dynamical analyses and simulations of the power system. Terna 2030 development plan projections enable the estimation of active power generation and load for each hour of that year in each Italian market zone, as well as cross-zonal active power flows; this dataset differs from conventional LF assignments. Therefore, in order to set up a LF analysis for the characterization of the working point of the Italian transmission network, LF assignments have to be derived from the input dataset provided by Terna. For this purpose, this paper presents two methods for determining canonical LF assignments for each network bus, aligning with the available data. The methodologies are applied to a simplified model of the Italian network, but they are also valid for other transmission networks with similar topology and meet the future needs of TSOs. The primary objective of multi-objective optimization techniques is to identify optimal solutions within the context of conflicting objective functions. While the multi-objective gray wolf optimization (MOGWO) algorithm has been widely adopted for its superior performance in solving multi-objective optimization problems, it tends to encounter challenges such as local optima and slow convergence in the later stages of optimization. To address these issues, we propose a Modified Boltzmann-Based MOGWO, referred to as MBB-MOGWO. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated on multiple multi-objective test functions. Experimental results demonstrate that MBB-MOGWO exhibits rapid convergence and a reduced likelihood of being trapped in local optima. Furthermore, in the context of the Internet of Things (IoT), the quality of web service composition significantly impacts complexities related to sensor resource scheduling. To showcase the optimization capabilities of MBB-MOGWO in real-world scenarios, the algorithm is applied to address a Multi-Objective Problem (MOP) within the domain of web service composition, utilizing real data records from the QWS dataset. Comparative analyses with four representative algorithms reveal distinct advantages of our MBB-MOGWO-based method, particularly in terms of solution precision for web service composition. In a long-distance wireless power transmission system with a non-uniform distribution of laser irradiation, it will significantly reduce the output power of the photovoltaic array, resulting in a large amount of power loss in the system and a decrease in conversion efficiency. This paper proposes an efficient and reliable optimal circuit connection algorithm for the 5 × 5 scale photovoltaic array. Under the laser illumination of 300 W, a 20 m wireless power transmission experiment was performed on four 5 × 5 scale photovoltaic arrays. This study addresses the integral role of typical wind power generation curves in the analysis of power system flexibility planning. A novel method is introduced for extracting these curves, integrating an enhanced K-means clustering algorithm with advanced optimization techniques. The process commences with thorough data cleaning, filtering, and smoothing. Subsequently, the refined K-means algorithm, augmented by the Pearson correlation coefficient and a greedy algorithm, clusters the wind power curves. The optimal number of clusters is ascertained through the silhouette coefficient. The final stage employs particle swarm and whale optimization algorithms for the extraction of quintessential wind power output curves, essential for flexibility planning in power systems. The construction of large-diameter shield tunnels underwater involves complex variations in water and earth load outside the tunnel segment, as well as intricate mechanical responses. This study analyzes the variation laws of external loads, axial forces, and bending moments acting on the segment ring during the shield assembly and removal from the shield tail. It accomplishes this through the establishment of an on-site monitoring system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) and proposes a Bayesian-genetic algorithm model to estimate the water and earth pressure. The fluctuation section exhibits a peak load twice as high as that in the stable section. These variations are influenced by Jack thrust, shield shell force, and grouting pressure. The peak load observed in the fluctuation section is twice as high as the load observed in the stable section. During the shield tail removal process, the internal forces undergo significant fluctuations due to changes in both load and boundary conditions, and the peak value of the axial force during the fluctuation section is eight times higher than that during the stable section, while the peak value of the bending moment during the fluctuation section is five times higher than that during the stable section. The earth and water pressure calculated using the inversion analysis method, which relies on the measured internal forces, closely matches the actual measured values. The results demonstrate that the accuracy of the water and earth pressure obtained through inversion analysis is twice as high as that obtained using the full coverage pressure method. Virtual power plants (VPPs) are susceptible to cyber anomalies due to their extensive communication layer. FL-trust, an improved federated learning (FL) approach, has been recently introduced as a mitigation system for cyber-attacks. However, current FL-trust enhancements, relying solely on proportional-integral (PI), exhibit drawbacks like sensitivity to controller gain fluctuations and a slow response to sudden disturbances, and conventional FL-trust is not directly applicable to the non-independent and identically distributed (non-IID) datasets common in VPPs. To address these limitations, we introduce an artificial neural network (ANN)-based technique to adapt FL-trust to non-IID datasets. The ANN is designed as an intelligent anomaly mitigation control method, employing a dynamic recurrent neural network with exogenous inputs. We consider the effects of the most common VPP attacks, poisoning attacks, on the distributed cooperative controller at the secondary control level. The ANN is trained offline and tested online in the simulated VPP. Using MATLAB simulations on a HOMER-modeled VPP, the proposed technique demonstrates its superior ability to sustain normal VPP operation amidst cyber anomalies, outperforming a PI-based mitigation system in accuracy and detection speed. The insulated core transformer (ICT) power supply is widely employed in electron beam accelerators (EBAs) due to its high power, heightened efficiency, and stable operation. However, the segmented-core structure of the ICT power supply increases magnetic leakage, which leads to it adversely affecting the consistency of the output voltages in the rectifier stages. Currently, numerous studies focus on stage voltage compensation, including turns compensation, capacitor compensation, dummy primary winding compensation, and full-parameter compensation. This paper presents a unified simulation model and an improved gradient-based genetic algorithm, which can also optimize the parameters of the four compensation methods. Based on this, the performance of the power supply using the four compensation methods under different ICT energy levels and power supply requirements is studied, and the selection suggestions are given. In recent years, the problem of cyber–physical systems' remote state estimations under eavesdropping attacks have been a source of concern. Aiming at the existence of eavesdroppers in multi-system CPSs, the optimal attack energy allocation problem based on a SINR (signal-to-noise ratio) remote state estimation is studied. Assume that there are N sensors, and these sensors use a shared wireless communication channel to send their state measurements to the remote estimator. Due to the limited power, eavesdroppers can only attack M channels out of N channels at most. Our goal is to use the Markov decision processes (MDP) method to maximize the eavesdropper's state estimation error, so as to determine the eavesdropper's optimal attack allocation. We propose a backward induction algorithm which uses MDP to obtain the optimal attack energy allocation strategy. Compared with the traditional induction algorithm, this algorithm has lower computational cost. Finally, the numerical simulation results verify the correctness of the theoretical analysis. Camera failure or loss of storage components in imaging equipment may result in the loss of important image information or random pulse noise interference. The low-rank prior is one of the most important priors in image optimization processing. This paper reviews and compares some low-rank constraint models for image matrices. Firstly, an overview of image-inpainting models based on nuclear norm, truncated nuclear norm, weighted nuclear norm, and matrix-factorization-based F norm is presented, and corresponding optimization iterative algorithms are provided. Then, we use different image matrix low-order constraint models to recover satellite images from three types of pulse interference and provide our experimental visual and numerical results. Finally, it can be concluded that the method based on the weighted nuclear norm can achieve the best image restoration effect. The F norm method based on matrix factorization has the shortest computational time and can be used for large-scale low-rank matrix calculations. Compressor characteristic evaluation is a critical step in design and optimization. Corrected characteristic curves are typically derived via experimental testing or CFD computation which is typically executed through manual manipulation. For compressors necessitating extensive characteristic computation across multiple speeds and operational conditions, the involved process is inherently complex. This paper introduces an automation approach, employing dichotomy and optimization algorithms aligned with a 3D numerical solver, to streamline the derivation of compressor characteristic curves. Initially, the paper delineated the procedural frameworks for two methodologies and validated them using a single-stage transonic compressor. Both methods achieved the automated resolution of the characteristic lines. The result indicates that the volume of the iterative computations hinges on the granularity of the space searching step and the precision in identifying the stall boundary point. Pertaining to the subject investigated herein, the dichotomy method entailed fewer iterations relative to the optimization algorithm. Subsequent adjustments to the optimization algorithmic process revealed that direct optimization mitigated computational demands substantially by reducing a cycle, thereby attesting to its superior efficacy. In summary, when simulating compressor characteristic curves, the dichotomy method proves more efficient when the interval value of the stall boundary range can be approximated. Conversely, direct optimization is preferable when the estimation of the compressor's stall boundary is imprecise. Accurate prediction of spatial variation in water quality in small microwaters remains a challenging task due to the complexity and inherent limitations of the optical properties of small microwaters. In this paper, based on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) multispectral images and a small amount of measured water quality data, the performance of seven intelligent algorithm-optimized SVR models in predicting the concentration of chlorophyll (Chla), total phosphorus (TP), ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), and turbidity (TUB) in small and micro water bodies were compared and analyzed. The results show that the Gray Wolf optimized SVR model (GWO-SVR) has the highest comprehensive performance, with R2 of 0.915, 0.827, 0.838, and 0.800, respectively. In addition, even when dealing with limited training samples and different data in different periods, the GWO-SVR model also shows remarkable stability and portability. Finally, according to the forecast results, the influencing factors of water pollution were discussed. In the face of an increasingly high-demand environment for outpatients, achieving a balance between allocation of limited medical resources and patient satisfaction has considerable social and economic benefits. Therefore, appointment scheduling (AS) system operation is used in clinics and hospitals, and its operation optimization research is of great significance. This study reviews the research progress on appointment scheduling system optimization. Firstly, we classify and conclude the existing appointment scheduling system structures and decision-making frameworks. Subsequently, we summarize the system reliability optimization framework from three aspects: appointment scheduling system optimization objectives, decision variables and constraints. Following that, we methodically review the most applied system optimization algorithms in different appointment scheduling systems. Lastly, a literature bibliometric analysis is provided. During our review of the literature, we observe that (1) optimization methods in ASs predominantly involve the application of genetic algorithms and simulation optimization algorithms; (2) neural networks and deep learning methods are core technologies in health management optimization; (3) a bibliometric analysis reveals a heightened interest in the optimization technology of ASs within China compared to other nations; and (4) further advancements are essential in the comprehensive optimization of the system, exploration of practical usage scenarios, and the application of advanced simulation and modeling techniques in this research. Machine learning (ML) algorithms have been widely used in big data prediction and analysis in terms of their excellent data regression ability. However, the prediction accuracy of different ML algorithms varies between different regression problems and data sets. In order to construct a prediction model with optimal accuracy for fly ash concrete (FAC), ML algorithms such as genetic programming (GP), support vector regression (SVR), random forest (RF), extremely gradient boost (XGBoost), backpropagation artificial neural network (BP-ANN) and adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) were selected as regression and prediction algorithms in this study; the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm was also used to optimize the structure and hyperparameters of each algorithm. The statistical results show that the performance of the assembled algorithms is better than that of an NN-based algorithm. In addition, PSO can effectively improve the prediction accuracy of the ML algorithms. The comprehensive performance of each model is analyzed using a Taylor diagram, and the PSO-XGBoost model has the best comprehensive performance, with R2 and MSE equal to 0.9072 and 11.4546, respectively. Integrating renewable energy sources (RES) into island microgrids is usually done to provide a cost-effective electricity supply. The integration process is carried out by scheduling generating unit operations with a unit commitment (UC) scheme to ensure low system operating costs. This article discusses developing a UC optimization method for integrating solar photovoltaic plants in Indonesia's Eastern Sumba microgrid power system. The scope of this study is the optimization algorithm of the UC, which consists of a priority list (PL) for the UC stage and an economic dispatch (ED) that relies on a genetic algorithm (GA) to minimize total operating costs (TOC). The results show that the PL-GA algorithm performs better than the extended priority list (EPL), and combinations of genetic algorithm and Lagrange, by applying continuous problem dispatch and improved binary GA hourly dispatch to meet ramping constraints. The application of RES incentive programs, such as carbon taxes and incentives for RES generation in calculating the TOC, shows an improvement in the financial feasibility analysis of the internal rate of return (IRR) and net present value (NPV) of actual projects in Indonesia. Our research focused on an optimization algorithm. Our work makes three contributions. First, a new optimization algorithm, the Maritime Search and Rescue Algorithm (MSRA), is creatively proposed. Defanging equipment layout in multi-floor satellites consists of two primary tasks: (i) allocating the equipment to the satellite's layers and (ii) placing the equipment in each layer individually. In reviewing the previous literature in this field, firstly, the issue of assigning equipment to layers is observed in a few articles, and regarding the layout, the non-overlapping constraint has always been a challenge, particularly for components that do not have a circular cross-section. In addition to presenting a heuristic method for allocating equipment to different layers of the satellite, this article presents a robust flexible programming model (RFPM) for the placement of equipment at different layers, taking into account the inherent flexibility of the equipment in terms of placement and the subject of uncertainty. This model is based on the existing uncertainty between the distances between pieces of cuboid equipment, which has not been addressed in any of the previous research, and by comparing its outputs with cases from past studies, we demonstrate a significantly higher efficiency related to placing the equipment and meeting the limit of non-overlapping constraints between the equipment. Finally, it would be possible to reduce the design time in the conceptual and preparatory stages, as well as the satellite's overall size, while still satisfying other constraints such as stability and thermal limitations, moments of inertia and center of gravity. As a new delivery mode, the collaborative delivery of packages using trucks and drones has been proven to reduce delivery costs and delivery time. To cope with the huge cost challenges brought by strict time constraints and ever-changing customer orders in the actual delivery process, we established a two-stage optimization model based on different demand response strategies with the goal of minimizing delivery costs. To solve this problem, we designed a simulated annealing chimp optimization algorithm with a sine–cosine operator. The performance of this algorithm is improved by designing a variable-dimensional matrix encode to generate an initial solution, incorporating a sine–cosine operator and a simulated annealing mechanism to avoid falling into a local optimum. Numerical experiments verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and strategy. Finally, we analyze the impact of dynamic degree on delivery cost. The proposed model and algorithm extend the theory of the vehicle routing problem with drones and also provide a feasible solution for route planning, taking into account dynamic demands and time windows. Using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for bridge inspection is becoming increasingly popular due to its ability to improve efficiency and ensure the safety of monitoring personnel. Compared to traditional manual monitoring methods, UAV inspections are a safer and more efficient alternative. This paper examines the impact of meteorological conditions on UAV-based bridge monitoring during specific tasks, with the aim of enhancing the safety of the UAV's costly components. The wake vortex behind a bridge structure can vary over time due to airflow, which can have a direct impact on the safety of UAV flights. To assess this impact, numerical analysis is conducted based on monitoring requirements specific to different tasks, taking into account wind speed, wind direction, and air temperature. In order to optimize UAV trajectory, it is important to consider the wake vortex intensity and its associated influence region, which can pose a potential danger to UAV flight. Additionally, the analysis should take into account the aerodynamic effects of different types of bridge columns on the wake vortex. An optimization algorithm was utilized to optimize the trajectory of a UAV during bridge inspections within the safe region affected by wind fields. This resulted in the determination of an effective and safe flight path. The study reveals that varying wind speeds have an impact on the safe flight zone of UAVs, even if they are below the operational requirements. Therefore, when monitoring bridges using UAVs, it is important to take into account the influence of meteorological conditions. Furthermore, it was observed that the flight path of UAVs during square cylinder column monitoring is longer and more time-consuming than round cylinder column monitoring. An energy hub (EH) provides an effective solution to the management of local integrated energy systems (IES), supporting the optimal dispatch and mutual conversion of distributed energy resources (DER) in multi-energy forms. However, the intrinsic stochasticity of renewable generation intensifies fluctuations in the system's energy production when integrated into large-scale grids and increases peak-to-valley differences in large-scale grid integration, leading to a significant reduction in the stability of the power grid. A distributed privacy-preserving energy scheduling method based on multi-agent deep reinforcement learning is presented for the EH cluster with renewable energy generation. Firstly, each EH is treated as an agent, transforming the energy scheduling problem into a Markov decision process. Secondly, the objective function is defined as minimizing the total economic cost while considering carbon trading costs, guiding the agents to make low-carbon decisions. Lastly, differential privacy protection is applied to sensitive data within the EH, where noise is introduced using energy storage systems to maintain the same gas and electricity purchases while blurring the original data. The experimental simulation results demonstrate that the agents are able to train and learn from environmental information, generating real-time optimized strategies to effectively handle the uncertainty of renewable energy. The frequent fluctuation of pork prices has seriously affected the sustainable development of the pork industry. The accurate prediction of pork prices can not only help pork practitioners make scientific decisions but also help them to avoid market risks, which is the only way to promote the healthy development of the pork industry. Therefore, to improve the prediction accuracy of pork prices, this paper first combines the Sparrow Search Algorithm (SSA) and traditional machine learning model, Classification and Regression Trees (CART), to establish an SSA-CART optimization model for predicting pork prices. Secondly, based on the Sichuan pork price data during the 12th Five-Year Plan period, the linear correlation between piglet, corn, fattening pig feed, and pork price was measured using the Pearson correlation coefficient. Thirdly, the MAE fitness value was calculated by combining the validation set and training set, and the hyperparameter "MinLeafSize" was optimized via the SSA. Finally, a comparative analysis of the prediction performance of the White Shark Optimizer (WSO)-CART model, CART model, and Simulated Annealing (SA)-CART model demonstrated that the SSA-CART model has the best prediction of pork price (compared with a single decision tree, R2 increased by 9.236%), which is conducive to providing support for pork price prediction. The accurate prediction of pork prices with an optimized machine learning model is of great practical significance for stabilizing pig production, ensuring the sustainable growth of farmers' income, and promoting sound economic development. With the increasing predilection for renewable energy sources across the world, the novel idea of a miniature version of a grid, called a microgrid, has emerged. The efficiency and sustainability of a power grid increase by integrating distributed energy resources (DERs). However, designing an optimum protection scheme has become a substantial challenge due to bi-directional power flows and varying fault levels in the microgrid with distributed energy resources (DERs). The existing protection strategies are not capable of dealing with the different operational states and natures of DERs. Therefore, modifications to the conventional protection schemes are required to benefit from the advantages of de-centralized power generation. Optimum co-ordination between the protection devices (PDs) is needed to achieve fast, secure, and reliable protection of the system. This paper proposes a protection philosophy for a renewable-based AC microgrid and validates its resilience by analyzing the response of the system in different faulty scenarios. Alzheimer's disease (AD), a neuropsychiatric disorder, continually arises in the elderly. To date, no targeted medications have been developed for AD. Early and fast diagnosis of AD plays a pivotal role in identifying potential AD patients, enabling timely medical interventions, and mitigating disease progression. Computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) becomes possible with the burgeoning of deep learning. However, the existing CAD models for processing 3D Alzheimer's disease images usually have the problems of slow convergence, disappearance of gradient, and falling into local optimum. This makes the training of 3D diagnosis models need a lot of time, and the accuracy is often poor. In this paper, a novel 3D aggregated residual network with accelerated mirror descent optimization is proposed for diagnosing AD. First, a novel unbiased subgradient accelerated mirror descent (SAMD) optimization algorithm is proposed to speed up diagnosis network training. By optimizing the nonlinear projection process, our proposed algorithm can avoid the occurrence of the local optimum in the non-Euclidean distance metric. The most notable aspect is that, to the best of our knowledge, this is the pioneering attempt to optimize the AD diagnosis training process by improving the optimization algorithm. Then, we provide a rigorous proof of the SAMD's convergence, and the convergence of SAMD is better than any existing gradient descent algorithms. Finally, we use our proposed SAMD algorithm to train our proposed 3D aggregated residual network architecture (ARCNN). We employed the ADNI dataset to train ARCNN diagnostic models separately for the AD vs. NC task and the sMCI vs. pMCI task, followed by testing to evaluate the disease diagnostic outcomes. The results reveal that the accuracy can be improved in diagnosing AD, and the training speed can be accelerated. Our proposed method achieves 95.4% accuracy in AD diagnosis and 79.9% accuracy in MCI diagnosis; the best results contrasted with several state-of-the-art diagnosis methods. In addition, our proposed SAMD algorithm can save about 19% of the convergence time on average in the AD diagnosis model compared with the gradient descent algorithms, which is very momentous in clinic.
