Perfluorosulfonic acid (PFSA) polymers are used as electrolyte membranes in polymer electrolyte fuel cells. To investigate the effect on proton conductivity through structural orientation control, we added 1,2,4-triazole to PFSA films during casting to impart anisotropy to the ion-cluster structure of the films. The proton conductivities of the films were found to be high in the film-surface direction and low in the film-thickness direction. Structural analysis using small-angle X-ray scattering suggested that the anisotropy in proton conductivity was due to anisotropy in the ion-cluster structure, which in turn was attributed to the formation of a phase-separated structure via strong bonding between sulfonic acid groups and 1,2,4-triazole during cast film formation and the surface segregation of fluorine. Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) are an efficient, reliable and clean source of energy. Predictive modeling and analysis of their performance is becoming increasingly important, especially with the growing emphasis on sustainable development's requirements. However, mathematical modeling is difficult due to the complexity of its internal structure. In this study, the system's electricity generating performance and operational characteristics were analyzed using recent on-site monitoring data first. Then, based on Pearson's correlation coefficient, some of the variables were selected to build two prediction models: an artificial neural network (ANN) model and a multiple linear regression (MLR) model. The models were evaluated on the basis of the normalized mean square error (NRMSE), which was 1.89% for the MLR model and 0.66% for the ANN model, with no overall bias. They were also compared with other existing models, and it was found that the two models used in this study have the advantage of high accuracy and low difficulty. Therefore, the models developed in this study can more accurately and effectively assess the SOFC system's state and can better support work to improve the thermoelectric performance of SOFC systems. Triblock copolymers such as styrene-b-(ethylene-co-butylene)-b-styrene (SEBS) have been widely used as an anion exchange membrane for fuel cells due to their phase separation properties. However, modifying the polymer architecture for optimized membrane properties is still challenging. This research develops a strategy to control the membrane morphology based on quaternized SEBS (SEBS-Q) by dual-tapering the interfacial block sequences. The structural and transport properties of SEBS-Q with various tapering styles at different hydration levels are systematically investigated by coarse-grained molecular simulations. The results show that the introduction of the tapered regions induces the formation of a bicontinuous water domain and promotes the diffusivity of the mobile components. The interplay between the solvation of the quaternary groups and the tapered fraction determines the conformation of polymer chains among the hydrophobic–hydrophilic subdomains. In this paper, a meticulous modeling approach is proposed not only for a fuel cell stack itself but also for all auxiliary components that collectively form the fuel cell system. This comprehensive modeling approach encompasses a wide range of components, including, but not limited to, the hydrogen recirculation pump and the air compressor. Each component is thoroughly analyzed and modeled based on the detailed specifications provided by suppliers. This involves considering factors such as efficiency, operating parameters, response times, and interactions with other system elements. By integrating these detailed models, a holistic understanding of the entire fuel cell system's performance can be attained. Such an approach enables engineers and designers to simulate various operating scenarios, predict system behavior under different conditions, and optimize the system design for maximum efficiency and reliability. Moreover, it allows for informed decision-making throughout the system's development, deployment, and operational phases, ultimately leading to more robust and effective energy systems. The use of polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cells as an alternative to internal combustion engines can significantly contribute to the decarbonization of the transport sector, especially for heavy-duty applications. However, degradation is still an issue for this type of component, affecting their durability and performance. In this scenario, a detailed analysis of the anodic and cathodic distributors' flow-field geometry may help to identify some local stressors that trigger the degradation mechanism, such as local hot spots and reactants not having a uniform distribution. A computational fluid dynamic (CFD) methodology is able to provide a volumetric description of a PEM fuel cell so it can be a useful tool to better understand the physical phenomena that govern the component operations. In this work, the open-source simulation library openFuelCell2 is adopted for a detailed analysis of two different PEM fuel cells characterized by standard distributor geometries, namely a parallel channel geometry and a serpentine configuration. The library, based on the OpenFOAM code, has been extended with a novel implementation accounting for the catalytic activity reduction due to the platinum oxide (PtOx) formation occurring under certain particular conditions. The adopted methodology is firstly validated resorting to experimental data acquired for the two different fuel cell configurations. The analysis highlights that the PtOx formation leads to a reduction in the fuel cell performance reaching up to 60–80% when operating at high voltages. Then, the effect of the distributor geometries on the component performance is investigated by resorting to in-plane and through-plane physical quantity distribution, such as reactant concentration, pressure or velocity fields. While the parallel flow channel configuration shows some diffusion losses under the rib, the serpentine channel geometry configuration can achieve some local performance peaks thanks to the convective flow in the gas diffusion layer (GDL) driven by local pressure gradients. Furthermore, the local enhancement in terms of higher current density under the rib is associated with an effective heat removal due to the high thermal capacity of the bipolar plate, avoiding the generation of local hot spots. The energy management system of a fuel cell electric robot should be highly responsive to provide the required power for various tactical operations, navigation of different routes, and acceleration. This paper presents a new multi-level online energy management strategy for a fuel cell electric robot based on the proposed functions of equivalent hydrogen fuel value evaluation, classification of the battery state of charge via the squared combined efficiency function, identification of the robot maneuver condition based on the proposed operation state of robot function, improvement of the overall energy efficiency based on the proposed function of the battery overcharge control, and separation of the functional points of the fuel cell based on the operational mode control strategy. The simulation study of the proposed online multi-level energy management strategy was carried out with MATLAB R2018b software to verify its superiority by comparing with other strategies. The results indicate a reduction in hydrogen consumption, reduction in fuel cell power fluctuations, prevention of battery overcharging, and incrementation in the total energy efficiency of energy storage systems compared to other energy management strategies. This study investigates the influence of surface roughness on the performance of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) through computational simulations using COMSOL Multiphysics. Two distinct gas flow channel (GFC) models of serpentine and parallel GFC structures were analysed, featuring various surface roughness levels to examine their impact on gas pressure and velocity dynamics. Rough surfaces are modeled using trigonometric functions to replicate machining-induced variations. Finite element simulations were conducted, assessing the time-dependent relationship between gas pressure and velocity while considering different electrode phase potentials as a function of surface roughness. Rough surfaces generally enhance mass transport, water management, and current distribution compared to smooth surfaces. The results indicated that a surface roughness of approximately 1 µm optimizes PEMFC performance by balancing pressure and velocity, enhancing electrochemical reactions, and reducing excessive pressure drops within the cell. Notably, the 0.7 V operating voltage was found to be the most efficient, achieving rapid stabilization of pressure and velocity levels swiftly. The findings underscore the importance of precise control over GFC roughness to enhance PEMFC performance gains in commercial applications, especially when multiple cells are stacked to achieve high power outputs. An ultra-high-speed electric air compressor (UHSEAC) generates a load torque component during operation, leading to unstable output. As air passes through the UHSEAC, the air density changes significantly, resulting in increased uneven distribution. This causes rapid changes in gas parameters, making them difficult to extract. Consequently, the behavior of load torque component variations under ultra-high-speed operating conditions (UHSOC) remains unclear. The influence of UHSOC on the load torque component has not been studied. In this article, the fluid model of the UHSEAC is established and verified, and the load torque component is extracted based on this model. The influence of speed and torque on the load torque component under UHSOC is then studied. The results show that the frequency of the load torque component increases by 14.29% as the speed increases from 70,000 rpm to 90,000 rpm. Additionally, as the torque increases from 1.3 Nm to 1.7 Nm, the amplitude of the load torque component increases by 69.56%. The growing concern about climate change and the contemporary increase in mobility requirements call for faster, cheaper, safer, and cleaner means of transportation. The retrofitting of fossil-fueled piston engine ultralight aerial vehicles to hydrogen power systems is an option recently proposed in this direction. The goal of this investigation is a comparative analysis of the environmental impact of conventional and hydrogen-based propulsive systems. As a case study, a hybrid electric configuration consisting of a fuel cell with a nominal power of about 30 kW, a 6 kWh LFP battery, and a pressurized hydrogen vessel is proposed to replace a piston prop configuration for an ultralight aerial vehicle. Both power systems are modeled with a backward approach that allows the efficiency of the main components to be evaluated based on the load and altitude at every moment of the flight with a time step of 1 s. A typical 90 min flight mission is considered for the comparative analysis, which is performed in terms of direct and indirect emissions of carbon dioxide, water, and pollutant substances. For the hydrogen-based configuration, two possible strategies are adopted for the use of the battery: charge sustaining and charge depleting. Moreover, the effect of the altitude on the parasitic power of the fuel cell compressor and, consequently, on the net efficiency of the fuel cell system is taken into account. The results showed that even if the use of hydrogen confines the direct environmental impact to the emission of water (in a similar quantity to the fossil fuel case), the indirect emissions associated with the production, transportation, and delivery of hydrogen and electricity compromise the desired achievement of pollutant-free propulsion in terms of equivalent emissions of CO2 and VOCs if hydrogen is obtained from natural gas reforming. However, in the case of green hydrogen from electrolysis with wind energy, the total (direct and indirect) emissions of CO2 can be reduced up to 1/5 of the fossil fuel case. With the development of lithium-ion batteries and fuel cells, the application of hybrid power systems is becoming more and more widespread. To better optimize the energy management problem of fuel cell hybrid systems, the accuracy of system modeling and simulation is very important. The hybrid system is formed by connecting the battery to the fuel cell through an active topology. Digital twin technology is applicable to the mapping of physical entities to each other with high interactivity and fast optimization iterations. In this paper, a relevant model based on mathematical logic is established by collecting actual operational data; subsequently, the accuracy of the model is verified by combining relevant operating conditions and simulating the model. Subsequently, a three-dimensional visualization model of a hybrid power system-based sightseeing vehicle and its operating environment was established using digital twin technology to improve the model simulation of the fuel cell hybrid power system. At low speeds, the simulation results of the hybrid power system-based sightseeing vehicle have a small error compared with the actual running state, and the accuracy of the data related to each internal subcomponent is high. In the simple interaction between the model display vehicle and the environment, the communication state can meet the basic requirements of the digital twin model because the amount of data to be transferred is small. This study makes a preliminary attempt at digital parallelism by combining mathematical logic with visualization models and can be used as a basis for the subsequent development of more mature digital twin models. Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) are widely acknowledged as a prospective power source, but durability problems have constrained development. Therefore, a compound prediction framework is proposed in this paper by integrating the locally weighted scatter plot smoothing method (LOESS), uniform information coefficient (UIC), and attention-based stacked generalization model (ASGM) with improved dung beetle optimization (IDBO). Firstly, LOESS is adopted to filter original degraded sequences. Then, UIC is applied to obtain critical information by selecting relevant factors of the processed degraded sequences. Subsequently, the critical information is input into the base models of ASGM, including kernel ridge regression (KRR), extreme learning machine (ELM), and the temporal convolutional network (TCN), to acquire corresponding prediction results. Finally, the prediction results are fused using the meta-model attention-based LSTM of ASGM to obtain future degradation trends (FDT) and the remaining useful life (RUL), in which the attention mechanism is introduced to deduce weight coefficients of the base model prediction results in LSTM. Meanwhile, IDBO based on Levy flight, adaptive mutation, and polynomial mutation strategies are proposed to search for optimal parameters in LSTM. The application of two different datasets and their comparison with five related models shows that the proposed framework is suitable and effective for forecasting the FDT and RUL of PEMFC. The new hybrid composite materials for PEM fuel cell were synthesized by the UV polymerization of acrylic monomers (acrylonitrile, acrylic acid, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) and a sulfo aromatic monomer, i.e., sodium styrene sulfonate, and the tetraethoxysilane/3-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane-based sol–gel system. By means of X-ray spectroscopy, the fractal structure of the obtained materials was characterized. Proton conductivity and viscoelasticity of the obtained materials were determined depending on the content of the inorganic component in nanocomposites. The hydrogen oxygen fuel cell is a power source with significant potential for development. The air compressor provides ample oxygen for the fuel cell, and as a key component of the air compressor, the performance of the motor greatly impacts the efficiency of the fuel cell. In order to enhance the system performance of high-speed permanent magnet motors, optimization was conducted on the motor's geometric dimensions to minimize rotor loss and maximize power density, taking into account the comprehensive constraints of electromagnetic and mechanical properties. The finite-element method was employed to analyze the motor's performance, conducting a multi-physical field analysis that included electromagnetic field, rotor loss, and mechanical strength analysis, as well as temperature field analysis. Aiming at the problem of high temperature rise in high-speed motor winding, the influence of the cooling water flow rate on the winding temperature rise was analyzed and simulated. Based on the analysis results, the minimum cooling water flow rate was obtained. According to the optimized design results, a prototype of an 18 kW, 100,000 rpm motor was manufactured, and the efficiency and temperature rise were tested. Using multiple input power sources increases the reliability of electric vehicles compared to a single source. However, the inclusion of other sources exhibits complexity in the controller system, such as computing time, program difficulty, and switching speed to connect or disconnect the input power to load. To ensure optimal performance and avoid overloading issues, the EV system needs sophisticated control. This work introduces a machine-learning-based controller using an artificial neural network to solve these problems. This paper describes the detailed power management control methodology using multiple sources like solar PV, fuel cells, and batteries. Novel control with an instantaneous reference current scheme is used to manage the input power sources to satisfy the power demand of electric vehicles. The proposed work executes the power split-up operation with standard and actual drive cycles and maximum power point tracking for PV panels using MATLAB Simulink. Finally, power management with a machine learning technique is implemented in an experimental analysis with the LabVIEW software, and an FPGA controller is used to control a 48 V, 1 kW permanent-magnet synchronous machine. High-temperature polymer-electrolyte membrane fuel cells (HT-PEMFCs) are a very important type of fuel cells since they operate at 150–200 °C, making it possible to use hydrogen contaminated with CO. However, the need to improve the stability and other properties of gas-diffusion electrodes still impedes their distribution. Self-supporting anodes based on carbon nanofibers (CNF) are prepared using the electrospinning method from a polyacrylonitrile solution containing zirconium salt, followed by pyrolysis. After the deposition of Pt nanoparticles on the CNF surface, the composite anodes are obtained. A new self-phosphorylating polybenzimidazole of the 6F family is applied to the Pt/CNF surface to improve the triple-phase boundary, gas transport, and proton conductivity of the anode. This polymer coating ensures a continuous interface between the anode and proton-conducting membrane. The polymer is investigated using CO2 adsorption, TGA, DTA, FTIR, GPC, and gas permeability measurements. The anodes are studied using SEM, HAADF STEM, and CV. The operation of the membrane–electrode assembly in the H2/air HT-PEMFC shows that the application of the new PBI of the 6F family with good gas permeability as a coating for the CNF anodes results in an enhancement of HT-PEMFC performance, reaching 500 mW/cm2 at 1.3 A/cm2 (at 180 °C), compared with the previously studied PBI-O-PhT-P polymer. Developing highly active and durable platinum-based catalysts is crucial for electrochemical renewable energy conversion technologies but the limited supply and high cost of platinum have hindered their widespread implementation. The incorporation of non-noble metals, particularly copper, into Pt catalysts has been demonstrated as an effective solution to reduce Pt consumption while further promoting their performance, making them promising for various electrocatalytic reactions. This review summarizes the latest advances in PtCu-based alloy catalysts over the past several years from both synthetic and applied perspectives. In the synthesis section, the selection of support and reagents, synthesis routes, as well as post-treatment methods at high temperatures are reviewed. The application section focuses not only on newly proposed electrochemical reactions such as nitrogen-related reactions and O2 reduction but also extends to device-level applications. In this work, a new plastic-intensive medium-pressure plate (MPP), which is part of a fuel-cell system, has been developed together with a steel plate meeting all mechanical and chemical requirements. This newly developed MPP had to achieve the objective of saving weight and package space. The use of compression molding as a manufacturing technique facilitated the use of glass mat thermoplastics (GMT) which has higher E-modules and strength compared to most of the injection molded materials. A steel plate was placed as an insert to help achieve the stiffness requirements. For the development, the existing MPP was benchmarked for its structural capabilities and its underlying functional features. Four different FRP materials were investigated in terms of their chemical and mechanical properties. PP-GMT material, which has both high mechanical performance and resistance against chemicals in the fuel cell fluid, had been chosen. Using the properties of the chosen PP-GMT material, topology optimization was carried out based on the quasi-static load case and manufacturing constraints, which gave a load-conforming rib structure. The obtained rib structure was utilized to develop the final MPP with adherence to the functional requirements of MPP. The developed plastic-intensive MPP exhibits a 3-in-1 component feature with a 55% reduction in package space and an 8% weight reduction. The MPP was virtually analyzed for its mechanical strength and compared with the existing benchmark values. Utilizing renewable energy sources to produce hydrogen is essential for promoting cleaner production and improving power utilization, especially considering the growing use of fossil fuels and their impact on the environment. Selecting the most efficient method for distributing power and capacity is a critical issue when developing hybrid systems from scratch. The main objective of this study is to determine how a backup system affects the performance of a microgrid system. The study focuses on power and hydrogen production using renewable energy resources, particularly solar and wind. Based on photovoltaics (PVs), wind turbines (WTs), and their combinations, including battery storage systems (BSSs) and hydrogen technologies, two renewable energy systems were examined. The proposed location for this study is the northwestern coast of Saudi Arabia (KSA). To simulate the optimal size of system components and determine their cost-effective configuration, the study utilized the Hybrid Optimization Model for Multiple Energy Resources (HOMER) software (Version 3.16.2). The results showed that, when considering the minimum cost of energy (COE), the integration of WTs, PVs, a battery bank, an electrolyzer, and a hydrogen tank brought the cost of energy to almost 0.60 USD/kWh in the system A. However, without a battery bank, the COE increased to 0.72 USD/kWh in the same location because of the capital cost of system components. In addition, the results showed that the operational life of the fuel cell decreased significantly in system B due to the high hours of operation, which will add additional costs. For mitigating global warming, polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells have become promising, clean, and sustainable alternatives to existing energy sources. To increase the energy density and efficiency of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFC), a comprehensive numerical modeling approach that can adequately predict the multiphysics and performance relative to the actual test such as an acceptable depiction of the electrochemistry, mass/species transfer, thermal management, and water generation/transportation is required. However, existing models suffer from reliability issues due to their dependency on several assumptions made for the sake of modeling simplification, as well as poor choices and approximations in material characterization and electrochemical parameters. In this regard, data-driven machine learning models could provide the missing and more appropriate parameters in conventional computational fluid dynamics models. The purpose of the present overview is to explore the state of the art in computational fluid dynamics of individual components of the modeling of PEMFC, their issues and limitations, and how they can be significantly improved by hybrid modeling techniques integrating with machine learning approaches. Hydrogen, due to its high energy density, stands out as an energy storage method for the car industry in order to reduce the impact of the automotive sector on air pollution and global warming. The fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) emerges as a modification of the electric car by adding a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) to the battery pack and electric motor, that is capable of converting hydrogen into electric energy. In order to control the energy flow of so many elements, an optimal energy management system (EMS) is needed, where rule-based strategies represent the smallest computational burden and are the most widely used in the industry. In this work, a rule-based operation mode control strategy for the EMS of an FCEV validated by different driving cycles and several tests at the strategic points of the battery state of charge (SOC) is proposed. The results obtained in the new European driving cycle (NEDC) show the 12 kW battery variation of 2% and a hydrogen consumption of 1.2 kg/100 km compared to the variation of 1.42% and a consumption of 1.08 kg/100 km obtained in the worldwide harmonized light-duty test cycle (WLTC). In the maritime domain, hydrogen fuel cell propulsion and autonomous vessels are two important issues that are yet to be implemented together because of a few challenges. It is obvious that there are several individual safety studies on Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships and hydrogen storage as well as fuel cells based on various risk assessment tools but the combined safety studies that include hydrogen fuel cells on autonomous vessels with recent risk analysis methods are extremely limited. This research chooses the "System-Theoretic Process Analysis" (STPA) method which is a recent method for potential risk identification and mitigation. Both hydrogen and autonomous vessels are analyzed and assessed together with the STPA method. Results are not speculative but rather flexible compared to conventional systems. The study finds a total of 44 unsafe control actions (UCAs) evolved from human and central control unit controllers through STPA. Further, the loss scenarios (LS) are identified that lead to those UCAs so that loss scenarios can be assessed and UCAs can be mitigated for safe operation. Conventional electrochemical sensors use voltammetric and amperometric methods with external power supply and modulation systems, which hinder the flexibility and application of the sensors. To avoid the use of an external power system and to minimize the number of electrochemical cell components, a self-powered electrochemical sensor (SPES) for hydrogen peroxide was investigated here. Iron phthalocyanine, an enzyme mimetic material, and Ni were used as a cathode catalyst and an anode material, respectively. The properties of the iron phthalocyanine catalyst modified by graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) were investigated. Open circuit potential tests demonstrated the feasibility of this system. The GNP-modulated interface helped to solve the problems of aggregation and poor conductivity of iron phthalocyanine and allowed for the achievement of the best analytical characteristics of the self-powered H2O2 sensor with a low detection limit of 0.6 µM and significantly higher sensitivity of 0.198 A/(M·cm2) due to the enhanced electrochemical properties. The SPES demonstrated the best performance at pH 3.0 compared to pH 7.4 and 12.0. The sensor characteristics under the control of external variable load resistances are discussed and the cell showed the highest power density of 65.9 μW/cm2 with a 20 kOhm resistor. Nickel-based catalysts have been widely recognized as highly promising electrocatalysts for oxidation. Herein, we designed a catalyst surface based on iron oxide electrodeposited on NiCo2O4 spinel oxide. Nickel foam was used as a support for the prepared catalysts. The modified surface was characterized by different techniques like electron microscopy and X-ray photon spectroscopy. The activity of the modified surface was investigated through the electrochemical oxidation of different organic molecules such as urea, ethanol, and ethylene glycol. Therefore, the modified Fe@ NiCo2O4/NF current in 1.0 M NaOH and 1.0 M fuel concentrations reached 31.4, 27.1, and 17.8 mA cm−2 for urea, ethanol, and ethylene glycol, respectively. Moreover, a range of kinetic characteristics parameters were computed, such as the diffusion coefficient, Tafel slope, and transfer coefficient. A proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is an efficient and environmentally friendly power production technology that uses hydrogen energy. The cathodic oxygen reduction electrode is a critical component in the development of PEMFC. Most techniques deposit catalyst nanoparticles in areas that are inaccessible for catalytic processes, reducing platinum utilization. The substrate used in this study was carbon paper (CP) with a self-supporting structure. First, electrochemical acidification technology was employed to modify the CP's surface, followed by nanoparticle manufacturing and fixation on the CP in a single step by electrodeposition. The Pt/C0.5V2.24CP catalyst electrode demonstrated high-quality activity in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), with a homogeneous particle dispersion and particle size of around 50 nm. The mass activity and electrochemical active surface area (ECSA) of the Pt/C0.5V2.24CP catalyst electrode were 1.74 and 3.98 times higher than those of the Pt/C/CP-1 electrodes made with commercial catalysts, respectively. After 5000 cycles of accelerated durability testing (ADT), the mass activity and ECSA were 1.28 times and 6.16 times more than Pt/C/CP-1. This paper successfully proved the viability of electrodepositing Pt nanoparticles on CP following acidification, and that the electrochemical acidification methods have a positive influence on improving electrode ORR activity. In recent years, the quest to advance fuel cell technologies has intensified, driven by the imperative to reduce reliance on hydrocarbon-derived fuels and mitigate pollutant emissions. Proton exchange membranes are a critical material of fuel cell technologies. The potential of ionic liquid-based polymer inclusion membranes or ionogels for proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) has recently appeared. Thermal stability, SEM-EDX characterization, NMR and IR characterization, thermogravimetric analysis, ion exchange capacity, and water uptake are key properties of these membranes which need to be investigated. In this work, ionogel based on quaternary ammonium salts, such as [N8,8,8,1+][Cl−], [N8,8,8,1+][Br−], and [N8-10,8-10,8-10,1+][Cl−] in various compositions with poly(vinyl chloride) are extensively studied and characterized based on those key properties. The best properties were obtained when a quaternary ammonium cation was combined with a bromide anion. Finally, ionogels are tested in microbial fuel cells. Microbial fuel cells based on the ionogel reach a maximum of 147 mW/m2, which represents 55% of the reference membrane (Nafion 212). These results indicate that we still have the possibility of improvement through the appropriate selection of the cation and anion of the ionic liquid. The ultra-high-speed electric air compressor (UHSEAC) is affected by the electromagnetic torque components of the ultra-high-speed permanent magnet synchronous motor (UHSPMSM) during wide-range speed regulation, resulting in intense speed fluctuation. Electromagnetic torque components are generated by the effects of permanent magnet field harmonics, stator slotting, and current harmonics. It is very important to conduct simulation comparisons and theoretical descriptions of different sources of pulsation factors. In this paper, firstly, the electromagnetic torque model of UHSPMSM with a rated speed of 80,000 rpm is constructed and verified by an experimental bench. Secondly, the electromagnetic torque components of UHSPMSM are extracted on the basis of the electromagnetic torque model. Finally, the electromagnetic torque components' characteristic law is investigated under different ultra-high-speed operating conditions. The results show that under ultra-high-speed operation, the frequency and amplitude of electromagnetic torque components become larger with increasing speed. And the amplitude of electromagnetic torque components becomes larger with increasing torque. To improve the conductivity and flexural strength of bipolar plates for proton-exchange membrane fuel cells, multi-filler-reinforced composites were prepared using graphite, multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), chopped carbon fibers (CCFs), and phenolic resin (PF). The effects of CCF content (0–6 wt.%) and MWCNT content (0–8 wt.%) on the flexural strength, electrical conductivity, interfacial contact resistance (ICR), density, hydrophobicity, and corrosion behavior of the composites were investigated. Results showed that the addition of a small number of CCFs (≤4 wt.%) effectively improved the flexural strength but slightly reduced the electrical conductivity and increased the ICR of the graphite/PF/CCF composites. Further addition of MWCNTs (≤6 wt.%) significantly improved the electrical conductivity and ICR of the graphite/PF/CCF/MWCNT composites, while maintaining high flexural strength. When the composites were filled with 4 wt.% CCFs and 2 wt.% MWCNTs, their electrical conductivity, flexural strength, ICR under 1.38 MPa, and contact angle were 272.8 S/cm, 43.1 MPa, 1.19 mΩ·cm2, and 101.5°, respectively. Compared to unreinforced composites, the electrical conductivity was reduced by 27.2%, the flexural strength was increased by 65.1%, and the composite possessed favorable hydrophobicity as well as corrosion behavior. Titanium has a low density and high corrosion resistance. In order to achieve the goal of a lightweight material, and to extend the normal working hour of proton-exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs), ultra-thin titanium plates were chosen to manufacture the key components—bipolar plates (BPs). For the purpose of overcoming the challenges of manufacturing with a large depth to width ratio, a multi-stage formation process was established with characteristics such as high efficiency and a lower price. In this study, the process parameters were examined through an experimental approach. The outcomes show that the channel formed by multistage forming is deeper than that formed by single-stage forming under the same displacement conditions. To achieve greater flow depths, it is recommended to increase the displacements as much as possible during both the first- and second-stage forming processes. The implementation of three-stage forming can effectively reduce the maximum thinning rates within flow channels while improving the overall deformation uniformity. This method deviates from traditional one-stage loading processes by adopting multi-stage loading instead. By employing appropriate mold designs, material deformation and flow can be enhanced throughout gradual loading processes, thereby preventing strain concentration and enhancing the ultimate formation height accuracy within micro-flow channels. This paper is dedicated to optimizing the functionality of Microgrid-Integrated Charging Stations (MICCS) through the implementation of a new control strategy, specifically the fractional-order proportional-integral (FPI) controller, aided by a hybrid optimization algorithm. The primary goal is to elevate the efficiency and stability of the MICCS-integrated inverter, ensuring its seamless integration into modern energy ecosystems. The MICCS system considered here comprises a PV array as the primary electrical power source, complemented by a proton exchange membrane fuel cell as a supporting power resource. Additionally, it includes a battery system and an electric vehicle charging station. The optimization model is formulated with the objective of minimizing the integral of square errors in both the DC-link voltage and grid current while also reducing total harmonic distortion. To enhance the precision of control parameter estimation, a hybrid of the one-to-one optimizer and sine cosine algorithm (HOOBSCA) is introduced. This hybrid approach improves the exploitation and exploration characteristics of individual algorithms. Different meta-heuristic algorithms are tested against HOOBSCA in different case studies to see how well it tunes FPI settings. Findings demonstrate that the suggested method improves the integrated inverters' transient and steady-state performance, confirming its improved performance in generating high-quality solutions. The best fitness value achieved by the proposed optimizer was 3.9109, outperforming the other algorithms investigated in this paper. The HOOBSCA-based FPI successfully improved the response of the DC-link voltage, with a maximum overshooting not exceeding 8.5% compared to the other algorithms employed in this study. The necessity for transitioning to renewable energy sources and the intermittent nature of the natural variables lead to the integration of storage units into these projects. In this research paper, wind turbines and solar modules are combined with pumped hydro storage, batteries, and green hydrogen. Energy management strategies are described for five different scenarios of hybrid renewable energy systems, based on single or hybrid storage technologies. The motivation is driven by grid stability issues and the limited access to fresh water in the Greek islands. A RES-based desalination unit is introduced into the hybrid system for access to low-cost fresh water. The comparison of single and hybrid storage methods, the exploitation of seawater for the simultaneous fulfillment of water for domestic and agricultural purposes, and the evaluation of different energy, economic, and environmental indices are the innovative aspects of this research work. The results show that pumped hydro storage systems can cover the energy and water demand at the minimum possible price, 0.215 EUR/kWh and 1.257 EUR/m3, while hybrid storage technologies provide better results in the loss of load probability, payback period and CO2 emissions. The EU's energy targets are to achieve at least 32% renewables in the energy mix by 2030. Part of the solution is strengthening consumer rights by empowering individuals to generate their own electricity. The aim of this study was to identify the most suitable energy system for electricity generation of up to 50 kW in the EU residential sector. Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis was used to compare four systems: proton exchange membrane fuel cell with photovoltaic panels, photovoltaic panels, biomass-powered Stirling engine, and solar-powered Stirling engine. Based on the results, the most beneficial system for household electricity generation is the biomass-fueled Stirling engine system due to its affordability, reliability, and low environmental impact. Addressing the pressing challenge of global warming, reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector is a critical imperative. Battery and fuel cell electric vehicles have emerged as promising solutions for curbing emissions in this sector. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive life cycle assessment (LCA) for typical passenger vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, and city buses using either proton-exchange membrane fuel cells or Li-ion batteries with different cell chemistries. To ensure accuracy, we supplemented existing studies with data from the literature, particularly for the recycling phase, as database limitations were encountered. Our results highlight that fuel cell and battery systems exhibit large emissions in the production phase. Recycling can significantly offset some of these emissions, but a comparison of the technologies examined revealed considerable differences. Overall, battery electric vehicles consistently outperform fuel cell electric vehicles regarding absolute greenhouse gas emissions. Hence, we recommend prioritizing battery electric over fuel cell vehicles. However, deploying fuel cell electric vehicles could become attractive in a hydrogen economy scenario where other factors, e.g., the conversion and storage of surplus renewable electricity via electrolysis, become important. The growing awareness about climate change and environmental pollution is pushing the industrial and academic world to investigate more sustainable solutions to reduce the impact of anthropic activities. As a consequence, a process of electrification is involving all kind of vehicles with a view to gradually substitute traditional powertrains that emit several pollutants in the exhaust due to the combustion process. In this context, fuel cell powertrains are a more promising strategy, with respect to battery electric alternatives where productivity and endurance are crucial. It is important to replace internal combustion engines in those vehicles, such as the those in the sector of Non-Road Mobile Machinery. In the present paper, a preliminary analysis of a fuel cell powertrain for a telehandler is proposed. The analysis focused on performance, fuel economy, durability, applicability and environmental impact of the vehicle. Numerical models were built in MATLAB/Simulink and a simple power follower strategy was developed with the aim of reducing components degradation and to guarantee a charge sustaining operation. Simulations were carried out regarding both peak power conditions and a typical real work scenario. The simulations' results showed that the fuel cell powertrain was able to achieve almost the same performances without excessive stress on its components. Indeed, a degradation analysis was conducted, showing that the fuel cell system can achieve satisfactory durability. Moreover, a Well-to-Wheel approach was adopted to evaluate the benefits, in terms of greenhouse gases, of adopting the fuel cell system. The results of the analysis demonstrated that, even if considering grey hydrogen to feed the fuel cell system, the proposed powertrain can reduce the equivalent CO 2 emissions of 69%. This reduction can be further enhanced using hydrogen from cleaner production processes. The proposed preliminary analysis demonstrated that fuel cell powertrains can be a feasible solution to substitute traditional systems on off-road vehicles, even if a higher investment cost might be required. The increase in greenhouse gas emissions, as well as the risk of fossil fuel depletion, has prompted a transition to electric transportation. The European Union aims to substantially reduce pollutant emissions by 2035 through the use of renewable energies. In aviation, this transition is particularly challenging, mainly due to the weight of onboard equipment. Traditional electric motors with radial magnetic flux have been replaced by axial magnetic flux motors with reduced weight and volume, high efficiency, power, and torque. These motors were initially developed for electric vehicles with in-wheel motors but have been adapted for aviation without modifications. Worldwide, there are already companies developing propulsion systems for various aircraft categories using such electric motors. One category of aircraft that could benefit from this electric motor development is traditionally constructed training aircraft with significant remaining flight resource. Electric repowering would allow their continued use for pilot training, preparing them for future electrically powered aircraft. This article presents a study on the feasibility of repowering a classic training aircraft with an electric propulsion system. The possibilities of using either a battery or a hybrid source composed of a battery and a fuel cell as an energy source are explored. The climate impact of aviation can be reduced using powertrains based on hydrogen fuel cells and batteries. Combining both technologies in a direct-hybrid without a DC/DC converter is a promising approach for light-weight systems. Depending on the power demand, both the fuel cell and battery are used to provide power or only the fuel cell is connected to the powertrain. The system voltage in a direct-hybrid is determined by the fuel cell and battery, but the performance of fuel cells is affected by low-ambient pressure at high altitudes and the battery voltage is affected by state of charge and discharge rate. Taking this into account, the presented work demonstrates how a direct-hybrid system must be designed based on a scaled mission profile of a 40-seater aircraft. The fuel cell and battery are configured and sized according to the power demand in different flight phases while considering voltage limits given by the powertrain. The energy requirement from the fuel cell and the battery is calculated for a flight based on a realistic mission profile and different battery and fuel cell configurations are evaluated. In this study, real voyage data and ship specifications of a general cargo ship are employed, and it is assumed that diesel generators are replaced with hydrogen proton exchange membrane fuel cells. The effect of the replacement on CO2, NOX, SOX, and PM emissions and the CII value is calculated. Emission calculations show that there is a significant reduction in emissions when hydrogen fuel cells are used instead of diesel generators on the case ship. By using hydrogen fuel cells, there is a 37.4% reduction in CO2 emissions, 32.5% in NOX emissions, 37.3% in SOX emissions, and 37.4% in PM emissions. If hydrogen fuel cells are not used instead of diesel generators, the ship will receive an A rating between 2023 and 2026, a B rating in 2027, a C rating in 2028–2029, and an E rating in 2030. On the other hand, if hydrogen fuel cells are used, the ship will always remain at an A rating between 2023 and 2030. The capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX) of the fuel cell system are USD 1,305,720 and USD 2,470,320, respectively, for a 15-year lifetime, and the hydrogen fuel expenses are competitive at USD 260,981, while marine diesel oil (MDO) fuel expenses are USD 206,435. This work aims to study and analyze sustainability improvement in urban and road transportation by using a hybrid power system for electric vehicles consisting of a dual low- and high-rate operation lithium battery block and a fuel cell. The proposed power system reduces the energy consumption in electric vehicles, thus helping to enhance a sustainable process of environmental urban pollution and reducing or eliminating fossil fuel dependence, enhancing global sustainability. In this configuration, the high-rate lithium battery powers the electric vehicle in high-power-demand processes like acceleration mode or on an uphill road; the low-rate battery operates at a low output power range, servicing the auxiliary systems and low power loads, and the fuel cell supplies energy in intermediate-power-demand conditions, normal driving mode, constant velocity, or flat and downhill terrain. The dual power system improves global efficiency, since every power unit operates optimally, depending on the driving conditions. Power sharing optimizes the lithium battery performance and fuel cell capacity, minimizing the size and weight of each energy system and enlarging the driving range. A comparative study between different lithium battery configurations and fuel cells shows an efficiency improvement of 31.4% for the hybrid dual-battery block and fuel cell operating in low, high, and intermediate output power ranges, respectively. The study is based on a simulation process recreating current driving conditions for electric cars in urban, peripheral, and intercity routes. In recent years, more and more attention has been paid to fuel cell-based hybrid tractors. In order to optimize the global power distribution of tractors and further improve the fuel economy and fuel cell durability of the system, this paper designs an energy management strategy to maximize external energy efficiency based on fuel cell/lithium battery/supercapacitor hybrid tractors. This strategy aims to reduce the real-time hydrogen consumption of the system while maximizing the external energy output so as to reduce the impact of load randomness on the output power of the fuel cell. Under the typical ploughing conditions of the tractor, the simulation is compared with the state machine strategy and the equivalent hydrogen consumption minimization strategy. The results show that the proposed strategy meets the power requirements of a given ploughing condition, and compared with the two traditional strategy systems, the performance characteristics of auxiliary energy are more fully exerted. It reduces the burden on fuel cells and improves the durability of fuel cells. The global issue of climate change caused by humans and its inextricable linkage to our present and future energy demand presents the biggest challenge facing our globe. Hydrogen has been introduced as a new renewable energy resource. It is envisaged to be a crucial vector in the vast low-carbon transition to mitigate climate change, minimize oil reliance, reinforce energy security, solve the intermittency of renewable energy resources, and ameliorate energy performance in the transportation sector by using it in energy storage, energy generation, and transport sectors. Many technologies have been developed to generate hydrogen. The current paper presents a review of the current and developing technologies to produce hydrogen from fossil fuels and alternative resources like water and biomass. The results showed that reformation and gasification are the most mature and used technologies. However, the weaknesses of these technologies include high energy consumption and high carbon emissions. Thermochemical water splitting, biohydrogen, and photo-electrolysis are long-term and clean technologies, but they require more technical development and cost reduction to implement reformation technologies efficiently and on a large scale. A combination of water electrolysis with renewable energy resources is an ecofriendly method. Since hydrogen is viewed as a considerable game-changer for future fuels, this paper also highlights the challenges facing hydrogen generation. Aiming to solve the problems of insufficient dynamic responses, the large loss of energy storage life of a single power cell, and the large fluctuation in DC (direct current) bus voltage in fuel cell vessels, this study takes a certain type of fuel cell ferry as the research object and proposes an improved equivalent minimum hydrogen consumption energy management strategy, based on fuzzy logic control. First, a hybrid power system including a fuel cell, a lithium–iron–phosphate battery, and a supercapacitor is proposed, with the simulation of the power system of the modified mother ship. Second, a power system simulation model and a double-closed-loop PI (proportion integration) control model are established in MATLAB/Simulink to design the equivalent hydrogen consumption model and fuzzy logic control strategy. The simulation results show that, under the premise of meeting the load requirements, the control strategy designed in this paper improves the Li-ion battery's power, the Li-ion battery's SOC (state of charge), the bus voltage stability, and the equivalent hydrogen consumption significantly, compared with those before optimization, which improves the stability and economy of the power system and has certain practical engineering value. This paper deals with the analyses of batteries used in current military systems to power the electric drives of military vehicles. The article focuses on battery analyses based on operational data obtained from measurements rather than analyses of the chemical composition of the tested batteries. The authors of the article used their experience from the development test-laboratory of military technology. This article presents a comparative analysis of existing and promising technologies in the field of energy storage and buffering for military electric vehicles. The overview of these technologies, including the design, operating principles, advantages, and disadvantages, are briefly presented to produce theoretical comparative analyses. However, this article mainly focuses on the experimental verification of operational ability in varied conditions, as well as the comparison and analysis of these results. The main part of the article provides more experimental studies on technologies of energy storage and buffering using the results of several experiments conducted to demonstrate the behavior of each technology in different working conditions. The output parameters, as well as the state of charge of each technology's samples, were surveyed in various temperatures and loading characteristics. The results presented in this paper are expected to be useful for optimizing the selection of energy storage and buffering solutions for military electric vehicles in different applications and functional environments. Mg–air batteries have high theoretical energy density and cell voltage. Their use of environmentally friendly salt electrolyte and commercially available magnesium materials determines their acceptable technical and economic efficiency, safety, and ease of operation. However, the practical applicationsof Mg–air batteries arevery limited due to the polarization of magnesium anodes and the batteries' low Faraday efficiency. In this study, we considered the possibility of designingan Mg–air battery withincreased power by adapting engineering solutions developed for an Al–air battery with alkaline electrolytes. To increase the specific power of the battery, it was proposed that the internal resistance of the battery maybe reduced using a concentrated salt electrolyte. We investigated the discharge performance of a commercial alloy of AZ31 type in 15 wt.% NaCl electrolyte at current densities of 40–120 mA/cm2. The influence of a small addition of sulfosalicylic acid into the electrolyte on the discharge performance of the anode alloy was studied as well. The growing world population with the growth of civilization is causing the demand for electric energy to increase every year. For this reason, new energy sources such as fuel cells are becoming more and more needed, especially when they can use renewable fuel such as ethanol. This simple organic alcohol can be easily produced in a fermentation process using organic waste. Its oxidation might be used as a source for electricity; however, due to the lack of proper electrocatalytic materials, such a solution is not popular. A simple method of NiCuGO composite preparation via electrodeposition from a water-based solution containing graphene oxide suspension is proposed. The activity of the prepared material is proven, with higher current densities observed for the composite powder. The highest peak current density is observed for NiCuGO deposited with a higher current density. The observed ipA of 8.6 mA cm−2 has been higher than that reported by other researchers. This research conducted a probabilistic life-cycle assessment (pLCA) into the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions performance of nine combinations of truck size and powertrain technology for a recent past and a future (largely decarbonised) situation in Australia. This study finds that the relative and absolute life-cycle GHG emissions performance strongly depends on the vehicle class, powertrain and year of assessment. Life-cycle emission factor distributions vary substantially in their magnitude, range and shape. Diesel trucks had lower life-cycle GHG emissions in 2019 than electric trucks (battery, hydrogen fuel cell), mainly due to the high carbon-emission intensity of the Australian electricity grid (mainly coal) and hydrogen production (mainly through steam–methane reforming). The picture is, however, very different for a more decarbonised situation, where battery electric trucks, in particular, provide deep reductions (about 75–85%) in life-cycle GHG emissions. Fuel-cell electric (hydrogen) trucks also provide substantial reductions (about 50–70%), but not as deep as those for battery electric trucks. Moreover, hydrogen trucks exhibit the largest uncertainty in emissions performance, which reflects the uncertainty and general lack of information for this technology. They therefore carry an elevated risk of not achieving the expected emission reductions. Battery electric trucks show the smallest (absolute) uncertainty, which suggests that these trucks are expected to deliver the deepest and most robust emission reductions. Operational emissions (on-road driving and vehicle maintenance combined) dominate life-cycle emissions for all vehicle classes. Vehicle manufacturing and upstream emissions make a relatively small contribution to life-cycle emissions from diesel trucks (<5% each), but these are important aspects for electric trucks (5% to 30%). The member countries of the European Union (EU) have prioritized the incorporation of hydrogen as a key component of their energy objectives. As the world moves towards reducing its dependence on fossil fuels, alternative sources of energy have gained prominence. With the growing development of Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs), the establishment of an infrastructure for hydrogen production and the creation of a network of service stations have become essential. This article's purpose is to conduct a methodical review of literature regarding the use of green hydrogen for transportation and the planning of imperative infrastructure in the territory of the EU, specifically Hydrogen Refueling Stations (HRS). In order to increase the acceptance of fuel cell vehicles, a comprehensive network of hydrogen refueling stations (HRS) must be built that enable drivers to refuel their vehicles quickly and easily, similar to gasoline or diesel vehicles. The literature review on this topic was conducted using the Web of Science database (WOS), with a variety of search terms proposed to cover all the key components of green hydrogen production and refueling infrastructure. The implementation of HRS powered by renewable energy sources is an important step in the adoption of fuel cell vehicles, and overcoming the obstacles that come with their implementation will require cooperation and innovation from governments, private businesses, and other stakeholders. The use of hydrogen as an energy carrier within the scope of the decarbonisation of the world's energy production and utilisation is seen by many as an integral part of this endeavour. However, the discussion around hydrogen technologies often lacks some perspective on the currently available technologies, their Technology Readiness Level (TRL), scope of application, and important performance parameters, such as energy density or conversion efficiency. This makes it difficult for the policy makers and investors to evaluate the technologies that are most promising. The present study aims to provide help in this respect by assessing the available technologies in which hydrogen is used as an energy carrier, including its main challenges, needs and opportunities in a scenario in which fossil fuels still dominate global energy sources but in which renewables are expected to assume a progressively vital role in the future. The production of green hydrogen using water electrolysis technologies is described in detail. Various methods of hydrogen storage are referred, including underground storage, physical storage, and material-based storage. Hydrogen transportation technologies are examined, taking into account different storage methods, volume requirements, and transportation distances. Lastly, an assessment of well-known technologies for harnessing energy from hydrogen is undertaken, including gas turbines, reciprocating internal combustion engines, and fuel cells. It seems that the many of the technologies assessed have already achieved a satisfactory degree of development, such as several solutions for high-pressure hydrogen storage, while others still require some maturation, such as the still limited life and/or excessive cost of the various fuel cell technologies, or the suitable operation of gas turbines and reciprocating internal combustion engines operating with hydrogen. Costs below 200 USD/kWproduced, lives above 50 kh, and conversion efficiencies approaching 80% are being aimed at green hydrogen production or electricity production from hydrogen fuel cells. Nonetheless, notable advances have been achieved in these technologies in recent years. For instance, electrolysis with solid oxide cells may now sometimes reach up to 85% efficiency although with a life still in the range of 20 kh. Conversely, proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) working as electrolysers are able to sometimes achieve a life in the range of 80 kh with efficiencies up to 68%. Regarding electricity production from hydrogen, the maximum efficiencies are slightly lower (72% and 55%, respectively). The combination of the energy losses due to hydrogen production, compression, storage and electricity production yields overall efficiencies that could be as low as 25%, although smart applications, such as those that can use available process or waste heat, could substantially improve the overall energy efficiency figures. Despite the challenges, the foreseeable future seems to hold significant potential for hydrogen as a clean energy carrier, as the demand for hydrogen continues to grow, particularly in transportation, building heating, and power generation, new business prospects emerge. However, this should be done with careful regard to the fact that many of these technologies still need to increase their technological readiness level before they become viable options. For this, an emphasis needs to be put on research, innovation, and collaboration among industry, academia, and policymakers to unlock the full potential of hydrogen as an energy vector in the sustainable economy. Fiber optic sensors integrated into fuel cell stacks have the potential to significantly enhance the temperature control and health monitoring of fuel cells. Inhomogeneous loading, both within individual cells and across different cells in a stack, leads to the formation of local hotspots that accelerate aging and degrade performance. This study investigates the behavior and feasibility of incorporating polyimide-coated optical fiber sensors into bipolar plates for precise and spatially resolved temperature monitoring. The sensor is successfully integrated into a single cell of a fuel cell stack, positioned on the bipolar plate in direct contact with the membrane. Pre-tests are conducted to thoroughly evaluate the technical properties of the fiber in relation to specific cell requirements. Additionally, a physical prototype featuring the sensor is developed and employed to validate its effectiveness under realistic operating conditions. The temperature measurement obtained via the fiber exhibits a continuous profile throughout the entire length, covering both the active area and distributor region of the cell. Throughout the entire 60 min test period, the measuring system provided continuous and uninterrupted temperature measurements, encompassing the start of the stack, the heating phase, the subsequent stable operating point, and the cooling phase. However, some technical challenges are identified, as mechanical pressure exerted on the fiber influences the measured temperature. While this work demonstrates promising results, further advancements are necessary to address inhomogeneous loading within fuel cells and hotspot mitigation. The precise monitoring of temperature distribution enables early detection of potential damage, facilitating timely interventions to improve the service life and overall performance of fuel cells. Fluorinated proton-exchange membranes (PEMs) based on graft copolymers of dehydrofluorinated polyvinylidene fluoride (D-PVDF), 3-sulfopropyl acrylate (SPA), and 1H, 1H, 2H-perfluoro-1-hexene (PFH) were prepared via free radical copolymerization and characterized for fuel cell application. The membrane morphology and physical properties were studied via small-(SAXS) and wide-angle X-ray scattering (WAXS), SEM, and DSC. It was found that the crystallinity degree is 17% for PEM-RCF (co-polymer with SPA) and 16% for PEM-RCF-2 (copolymer with SPA and PFH). The designed membranes possess crystallite grains of 5–6 nm in diameter. SEM images reveal a structure with open pores on the surface of diameters from 20 to 140 nm. Their transport and electrochemical characterization shows that the lowest membrane area resistance (0.9 Ωcm2) is comparable to perfluorosulfonic acid PEMs (such as Nafion®) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) based CJMC cation-exchange membranes (ChemJoy Polymer Materials, China). Key transport and physicochemical properties of new and commercial membranes were compared. The PEM-RCF permeability to NaCl diffusion is rather high, which is due to a relatively low concentration of fixed sulfonate groups. Voltammetry confers that the electrochemical behavior of new PEM correlates to that of commercial cation-exchange membranes, while the ionic conductivity reveals an impact of the extended pores, as in track-etched membranes. This paper proposes extended-window algorithms for model prediction and applies them to optimize hybrid power systems. We consider a hybrid power system comprising solar panels, batteries, a fuel cell, and a chemical hydrogen generation system. The proposed algorithms enable the periodic updating of prediction models and corresponding changes in system parts and power management based on the accumulated data. We first develop a hybrid power model to evaluate system responses under different conditions. We then build prediction models using five artificial intelligence algorithms. Among them, the light gradient boosting machine and extreme gradient boosting methods achieve the highest accuracies for predicting solar radiation and load responses, respectively. Therefore, we apply these two models to forecast solar and load responses. Third, we introduce extended-window algorithms and investigate the effects of window sizes and replacement costs on system performance. The results show that the optimal window size is one week, and the system cost is 13.57% lower than the cost of the system that does not use the extended-window algorithms. The proposed method also tends to make fewer component replacements when the replacement cost increases. Finally, we design experiments to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of systems using extended-window model prediction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
