Intracranial mass lesions occur within the cranial cavity, and their etiology is diverse. Although tumors and hemorrhagic diseases are the common causes, some rarer etiologies, such as vascular malformations, might also present with intracranial mass lesion manifestations. Such lesions are easily misdiagnosed due to the lack of manifestations of the primary disease. The treatment involves a detailed examination and differential diagnosis of the etiology and clinical manifestations. On 26 October 2022, a patient with craniocervical junction arteriovenous fistulas (CCJAVFs) was admitted to Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital. Imaging examinations showed a brainstem mass lesion, and the patient was initially diagnosed with a brainstem tumor. After a thorough preoperative discussion and a digital subtraction angiography (DSA) examination, the patient was diagnosed with CCJAVF. The patient was cured using interventional treatment, and an invasive craniotomy was not required. During diagnosis and treatment, the cause of the disease might not be apparent. Thus, a comprehensive preoperative examination is very important, and physicians need to conduct the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of the etiology based on the examination to administer precise treatment and reduce unnecessary operations. Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a central nervous system disease with high mortality and morbidity. Some independent factors valuable for prognosis prediction in patients with SAH are still lacking. In our earlier study, we found that PDK4 exerts a protective effect after SAH, primarily by reducing oxidative stress and neuronal death via the ROS/ASK1/p38 signaling pathway. Therefore, we investigated the changes in the level of pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 4 (PDK4) in patients after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and analyzed the value of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) PDK4 level in predicting the prognoses of patients with SAH after interventional embolization surgery. Some knee arthritis subjects who needed surgery were recruited as a control group. The results showed that PDK4 expression was elevated in the CSF of SAH patients compared with that of controls. PDK4 levels in CSF (OR = 4.525; 95% CI: 1.135–18.038; p = 0.032), time to surgery (OR = 0.795; 95% CI: 0.646–0.977; p = 0.029), and initial GCS scores (OR = 2.758; 95% CI: 0.177–43.106; p = 0.469) were independent prognostic risk factors for SAH patients after surgery. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve showed PDK4 levels in CSF had a higher predictive value. Thus, PDK4 in CSF could be an independent prognostic risk factor for SAH patients after surgery. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of liquid embolization agents for treating various hemorrhagic peripheral intracranial aneurysms. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 38 patients who suffered from hemorrhagic peripheral intracranial aneurysms and were treated with liquid embolization agents. We used the modified Rankin scale for follow-up at 6 months postoperatively, and digital subtraction angiography follow-up was performed 6 months postoperatively. Results: Of the 38 patients (ten of simple peripheral intracranial aneurysms, six of Moyamoya disease (MMD), and 22 of arteriovenous malformation (AVM)), posterior circulation accounted for the most significant proportion (57.9%), followed by anterior circulation (21.1%) and intranidal aneurysms (21.1%). Intraoperative hemorrhage occurred in four cases, postoperative cerebral infarction occurred in four cases, two patients encountered microcatheter retention, and intraoperative thrombosis took place in the basilar artery of a patient with an arteriovenous malformation. A postoperative hemorrhage occurred in only one patient. At 6-month follow-up, 84.2% of patients had good prognosis outcomes, and 13.5% had poor outcomes. Conclusion: Liquid embolization agents are effective for hemorrhagic peripheral intracranial aneurysms; however, safety depends on the subtypes. Pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH), a key enzyme on the mitochondrial outer membrane, has been found to decrease activity notably in early brain injury (EBI) after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). It has been demonstrated that PDH is associated with the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and apoptosis. Hence, in this study, we aimed to determine the cause of the decreased PDH activity and explore the potential role of PDH in EBI. We investigated the expression changes of PDH and pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase (PDK) in vivo and in vitro. Then, we explored the possible effects of PDH and ROS after SAH. The results showed that early overexpression of PDK4 promoted the phosphorylation of PDH, inhibited PDH activity, and may play a protective role after SAH in vivo and in vitro. Finally, we investigated the levels of PDK4 and pyruvate, which accumulated due to decreased PDH activity, in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of 34 patients with SAH. Statistical analysis revealed that PDK4 and pyruvate expression was elevated in the CSF of SAH patients compared with that of controls, and this high expression correlated with the degree of neurological impairment and long-term outcome. Taken together, the results show that PDK4 has the potential to serve as a new therapeutic target and biomarker for assisting in the diagnosis of SAH severity and prediction of recovery. Early brain injury is considered to be a primary reason for the poor prognosis of patients suffering from subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Due to its pro-inflammatory activity, cold-inducible RNA-binding protein (CIRP) has been implicated in the ischemic brain insult, but its possible interplay with hypothermia in SAH treatment remains to be evaluated. One-hundred and thirty-eight Sprague-Dawley rats (300–350 g males) were randomly allocated into the following groups: sham-operated (Sham); SAH; and SAH + hypothermia (SAH + H), each comprised of 46 animals. After treatments, the brain tissues of the three groups were randomly collected after 12 h, 1 d, 3 d, and 7 d, and the expression levels of the CIRP and mitochondrial apoptosis pathway-related proteins Bax, Bcl-2, caspase-9, caspase-3, and cytochrome c measured using Western blotting and real-time PCR. Brain damage was assessed by TUNEL and Nissl staining, the electron microscopy of brain tissue slices as well as functional rotarod tests. Expression of CIRP, Bax, caspase-9, caspase-3, and cytochrome c as well as reduced motor function incidence were higher in the SAH group, particularly during the first 3 d after SAH induction. Hypothermia blunted these SAH responses and apoptosis, thereby indicating reduced inflammatory signaling and less brain cell injury in the early period after SAH. Hypothermia treatment was found to effectively protect the brain tissue from early SAH injury in a rat model and its further evaluation as a therapeutic modality in SAH patients requires further study. The pressure swing adsorption (PSA) process was used to capture carbon dioxide (CO2) from the flue gas of a coal-fired power plant to reduce CO2 emissions. Herein, CO2 was captured from flue gas using the PSA process for at least 85 vol% CO2 purity and with the other exit stream from the process of more than 90 vol% N2 purity. The extended Langmuir–Freundlich isotherm was used for calculating the equilibrium adsorption capacity, and the linear driving force model was used to describe the gas adsorption kinetics. We compared the results of breakthrough curves obtained through experiments and simulations to verify the accuracy of the mass transfer coefficient. The flue gas obtained after desulphurization and water removal (13.5 vol% CO2 and 86.5 vol% N2) from a subcritical 1-kW coal-fired power plant served as the feed for the designed three-bed, nine-step PSA process. To determine optimal operating conditions for the process, the central composite design (CCD) was used. After CCD analysis, optimal operating conditions with a feed pressure of 3.66 atm and a vacuum pressure of 0.05 atm were obtained to produce a bottom product with a CO2 purity of 89.20 vol% and a recovery of 88.20%, and a top product with a N2 purity of 98.49 vol% and a recovery of 93.56%. Point cloud classification is an important task in point cloud data analysis. Traditional point cloud classification is conducted primarily on the basis of specific handcrafted features with a specific classifier and is often capable of producing satisfactory results. However, the extraction of crucial handcrafted features hinges on sufficient knowledge of the field and substantial experience. In contrast, while powerful deep learning algorithms possess the ability to learn features automatically, it normally requires complex network architecture and a considerable amount of calculation time to attain better accuracy of classification. In order to combine the advantages of both the methods, in this study, we integrated the handcrafted features, whose benefits were confirmed by previous studies, into a deep learning network, in the hopes of solving the problem of insufficient extraction of specific features and enabling the network to recognise other effective features through automatic learning. This was done to achieve the performance of a complex model by using a simple model and fulfil the application requirements of the remote sensing domain. As indicated by the experimental results, the integration of handcrafted features into the simple and fast-calculating PointNet model could generate a classification result that bore comparison with that generated by a complex network model such as PointNet++ or KPConv. Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) has been proven to play a critical role in neuroinflammation and to represent an important therapeutic target following subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Resveratrol (RSV), a natural occurring polyphenolic compound, has a powerful anti-inflammatory property. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms of RSV in protecting against early brain injury (EBI) after SAH remain obscure. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of RSV on the TLR4-related inflammatory signaling pathway and EBI in rats after SAH. A prechiasmatic cistern SAH model was used in our experiment. The expressions of TLR4, high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88), and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) were evaluated by Western blot and immunohistochemistry. The expressions of Iba-1 and pro-inflammatory cytokines in brain cortex were determined by Western blot, immunofluorescence staining, or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Neural apoptosis, brain edema, and neurological function were further evaluated to investigate the development of EBI. We found that post-SAH treatment with RSV could markedly inhibit the expressions of TLR4, HMGB1, MyD88, and NF-κB. Meanwhile, RSV significantly reduced microglia activation, as well as inflammatory cytokines leading to the amelioration of neural apoptosis, brain edema, and neurological behavior impairment at 24 h after SAH. However, RSV treatment failed to alleviate brain edema and neurological deficits at 72 h after SAH. These results indicated that RSV treatment could alleviate EBI after SAH, at least in part, via inhibition of TLR4-mediated inflammatory signaling pathway.
