The Paleocene ore deposits related to the India–Asia continental collision are widely distributed in the Gangdese metallogenic belt. Among these, Sinongduo is the first discovered epithermal Ag-Pb-Zn deposit in the Lhasa terrane. However, there is still controversy over the ore-forming magma in this deposit. This study mainly reports new zircon U-Pb isotopic ages, whole-rock geochemistry, and Sr-Nd isotopic data for the granite porphyry from the Sinongduo deposit, aiming to discuss the petrogenesis and tectonic setting of the granite porphyry and its genetic link between the Ag-Pb-Zn mineralization. The results show that zircon U-Pb analyses yield ages of 62.9 ± 0.5 Ma and 59.0 ± 0.7 Ma for the granite porphyry, indicating that it formed during the Paleocene period. The timing of the granite porphyry intrusion is contemporaneous with the mineralization, suggesting that it is most likely the ore-forming magma in the Sinongduo deposit. The granite porphyry has high SiO2 and K2O, moderate Al2O3, and low Na2O, CaO, and FeOT contents, and it displays significant enrichments in LREEs and LILEs and depletions in HREEs and HFSEs, with negative Eu anomaly. The granite porphyry is a peraluminous series and can be classified as S-type granite. Moreover, the granite porphyry shows relatively high ratios of (87Sr/86Sr)i and low values of εNd(t). The geochemical and isotopic compositions of the granite porphyry from the Sinongduo area are similar to those of the upper continental crust, which suggests that the granite porphyry was most likely derived from the melting of the upper continental crust in the Lhasa terrane during the India–Asia collisional tectonic setting. A-type granites have been the subject of considerable interest due to their distinct anorogenic geological background. The A-type and arc-related granites are crucial in deciphering the evolution of the ocean closure and continental collision in the Tibet Plateau. The demise of the Bangong–Nujiang suture zone (BNSZ) and the Yarlung–Tsangpo suture zone was accompanied by the emplacement of volumes of syn-collisional and post-collisional granites. Controversy has persisted regarding the contribution of the collisional granites within the Lhasa Block to the growth of the Tibetan Plateau. This study provides key evidence about the evolution of the Lhasa Block and Bangong–Nujiang Ocean (BNO) by the newly documented 1200 km long, Early Cretaceous A-type acidic magmatic belt. The resolution was achieved through the utilization of petrology, whole-rock geochemistry, zircon U-Pb geochronology, and in situ zircon Hf isotope analysis of the Burshulaling Granites in the eastern segment and previous existing data in the central and western segment of the Lhasa Block. The Burshulaling Granites are characterized as peraluminous, high-K calc-alkaline series, indicating a post-collision setting with high temperature and low pressure. The zircon grains from two granite samples yield 206Pb/238U ages of 115–113 Ma. In situ zircon Hf analyses with 206Pb/238U ages give εHf(t) of −6.2–0.6, showing prominent characteristics of crust-mantle interaction. Granites from east to west exhibit whole-rock geochemical and geochronological similarities that fall within the well-constrained Early Cretaceous time frame (117–103 Ma) and track post-collisional A-type acidic magmatic belt along BNSZ. We argue that this magmatism resulted from slab break-off or orogenic root detachment, leading to melting and mixing of the lower crust. Late Cryogenian–Ediacaran magmatism represents the latest Precambrian tectonothermal event in the Tarim Craton. However, its geodynamic setting and geological significance are controversial. Here, we report the geochronology, whole-rock geochemistry, and Sr-Nd-Hf isotopic compositions of newly identified late Cryogenian A-type and highly fractionated S-type granites from two locations in the northern Tarim Craton. LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb analyses yield ages of 642 ± 7 Ma for a syenogranite and 643 ± 4.5 Ma for a mylonitized granite. The syenogranite is weakly peraluminous and shows an A-type granite affinity, as indicated by its high K2O + Na2O contents (8.35–8.64 wt.%), high field strength elements (Zr + Nb + Ce + Y = 435.8 − 463.4 × 10−6), Ga/Al ratios (2.79−2.83), and zircon saturation temperatures (829–844 °C). In contrast, the mylonitized granite contains Al-oversaturated minerals (e.g., garnet) and has high a differentiation index (DI = of 98.9–99.4), with lower zircon saturation temperatures (786–792 °C); the samples display high SiO2 contents (72.99–74.00 wt.%) and A/CNK values (1.16–1.17) and low Nb/Ta and Zr/Hf ratios and are enriched in Rb and depleted in Ba, Sr, which all point to a highly fractionated S-type granite affinity. The granites are characterized by elevated large-ion lithosphere elements (LILEs) and flat high-field-strength elements (HFSEs) patterns, with deep Nb and Ta troughs and pronounced negative Eu anomalies (Eu/Eu* = 0.17–0.38). They show apparently negative εNd(t) values (−10.1 to −9.8 and −6.8 to −7.9, respectively) and εHf(t) values (−9.66 to −1.77 and −33.5 to −1.3, respectively) with Paleoproterozoic crustal model ages, indicating that they were mainly generated by the partial melting of mature crustal materials with a minor contribution from a mantle-derived magmatic source. By integrating with previously published geological, sedimentological, and structural data, we suggest that the granites formed due to a high-temperature gradient in a syn-subduction extensional setting that was probably induced by northward slab rollback of the Paleo-Asian Oceanic lithosphere. Our new data highlight an upper-plate extension in the northern Tarim Craton that constitutes the northern periphery of the Rodinia supercontinent. The linear distribution of late Cryogenian magmatic rocks provides critical evidence for the orogen strike extension of the terminal suture between the Tarim Craton and southwestern Altaids. The interpretation of the sedimentary paleogeographic environment of the Lower Permian Shanxi Formation (P1s) coal strata in the southeastern Ordos Basin remains a subject of significant debate. In this paper, based on detrital zircon U–Pb source analysis, paleosalinity assessment, the sandstone modal composition, and other methods, we analyzed the P1s source system and constructed a model of the sedimentary evolution. The findings reveal that the primary source of the clastic materials in the study area stems from a mixed-source within the recycling orogenic belt. During the deposition period, the Shanxi Formation developed two predominant material source systems: one in the north, primarily linked to the Paleo-Yinshan Fold Orogenic Belt (YFOB), and the other in the south, originating from the North Qinling Orogenic Belt (NQinOB). These two major source systems converged in the Yichuan–Fuxian area. From the early stages of the Shanxi Formation period (Shan1), there was a regional retreat of the sea in the area. The seawater receded in a southeastward direction, leading to a gradual reduction in the paleosalinity and Sr/Ba-ratio variability during the Shan1 period. The influence of the seawater diminished, transitioning into a deltaic depositional system. This shift towards a terrestrial lakeshore basin reached its full development during the Lower Xiashihezi period. This study concludes that the Shanxi Formation in this area represents the evolution of a deltaic depositional system originating from a shallow sea shelf. This evolution can be divided into three major stages: remnants of the shallow sea shelf, barrier island–lagoon–littoral, and deltaic deposition. Within this framework, the shoreline underwent frequent lateral migration, influencing a broad range of characteristics. In the vertical direction, numerous alternating sets of sandstone bodies and mudstone, shale, and coal beds formed, creating a significant relationship between coal hydrocarbon sources and reservoirs. This study also establishes the stratigraphic-sequence framework of the basin for this period. In the process of in situ zircon U–Pb dating, it is an effective means to overcome the matrix effect by using a matrix-matched external reference material. However, the limited number of available zircon reference materials still makes it difficult to meet the research needs. In this paper, we performed a preliminary analysis of the gemological characteristics, trace elements and U–Pb ages of natural zircon CAM18 to assess its suitability as a reference material for laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) U–Pb dating. This tawny, gem-quality zircon has no visible inclusions and weighs approximately 0.55 g. Its density, full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the Raman peak and alpha flux (Dα) indicate that the sample has suffered mild-to-moderate radiation damage without any thermal treatment. The LA-ICP-MS U–Pb dating results reveal that the trace elements content and U–Pb ages of the sample are fairly homogeneous at the 50 μm scale, and there is no obvious loss of radiogenic Pb. The 206Pb/238U age (571.0 ± 3.0 Ma, 2s) and 207Pb/235U age (573.4 ± 6.0 Ma, 2s) are consistent within the analytical uncertainty, and the calculated concordia age is 571.4 ± 1.4 Ma (2s, n = 20). The variation in the 206Pb/238U ages is small, with a measurement repeatability of 0.46% (RSD), which is within the uncertainty of the age accuracy obtained by LA-ICP-MS. The oscillatory zoning, Th/U ratio (0.2) and chondrite-normalized rare-earth element (REE) pattern imply a magmatic origin of zircon CAM18. The Ti-in-zircon temperature ranges from 714 to 742 °C, and the oxygen fugacity ranges from ΔFMQ−2.87 to ΔFMQ−3.17, suggesting that it is crystallized in a reducing environment. The Cryogenian–Ediacaran strata in the Kuruktag block, northeastern Tarim Craton, are pivotal for deciphering the breakup of Neoproterozoic Rodinia and related peripheral subduction processes. This study reveals previously unidentified Ediacaran strata in the western Kuruktag block, characterized by deltaic plain clastic rocks and channel deposits. Zircon geochronological analyses of basalts and sandstones indicate a maximum depositional age of ~596 Ma, thereby attributing these strata to the Ediacaran Yukengou Formation in conjunction with prior paleontological findings. The prevalence of lithic fragments and two primary detrital zircon age populations within the Yukengou Formation sandstones suggest a rift basin environment, in contrast to a passive continental margin, receiving detrital material from the neighboring Paleoproterozoic basement and Neoproterozoic magmatic activity. As a result, the Cryogenian–Ediacaran strata are posited to have been deposited in an aulacogen basin. The presence of numerous Neoproterozoic zircon grains further implies significant volcanic events preceding and concurrent with Cryogenian rifting, suggesting that continental rifting along the northeastern Tarim margin may have been instigated by subduction-induced extension. The Sijiaying iron deposit is located in the Eastern Hebei area of the southern section of the northern margin of the North China Craton (NCC) and is the largest single iron deposit in China. The deposit contains many banded iron formations (BIFs) and was proven to have more than 3 million tons of high-grade iron ore resources. This study carried out geochemistry and zircon U–Pb analysis of normal-grade iron ore, high-grade iron ore, and wall rock (biotite–leptynite, chlorite–sericite schist) in the Sijiaying deposit and discussed the genesis and metallogenic age of high-grade iron ore. BIFs have low concentrations of Al2O3 and TiO2 and high field strength element (HFSE) depletion, indicating almost no contamination via terrestrial debris. The standardized post-Archean Australian shale (PAAS) rare earth element (REE) distribution pattern indicates that the iron formation exhibits positive Eu, Y, and heavy rare earth element (HREE) anomalies and lacks negative Ce anomalies, indicating that the Sijiaying BIF was enriched with iron sources via high-temperature hydrothermal fluids from the seabed and deposited in an anoxic ancient marine environment. In addition, geological field work identified two types of high-grade iron ore in the mining area: primitive sedimentary and hydrothermally altered high-grade iron ore. Further ore geochemical research showed that the primitive sedimentary-type iron ore is similar in geochemistry to the BIF. In addition to low Eu/Eu* values, the hydrothermally altered high-grade iron ore shows geochemical characteristics similar to those of the BIF, suggesting that they share the same iron source but did not form at the same time. The total large ion lithophile element (LILE) (Sr, Ba, Pb) contents in primitive sedimentary-type high-grade iron ore are higher than those in hydrothermally altered high-grade iron ore, indicating that LILEs are carried away via fluids during the hydrothermal alteration process in normal-grade iron ore. The geochemical characteristics of biotite–leptynite and chlorite–sericite schist include high contents of SiO2 and Al2O3, light rare earth elements (LREEs), LILE enrichment (Rb, Ba, Sr, Zr), and HFSE depletion (Nb, Ta, P, Ti), characteristics that are similar to island arc volcanic rocks. The reconstruction of the original rock indicates that the wall rock is a product of volcanic sedimentary cycles in an island arc setting. Zircon cathodoluminescence images and LA–ICP–MS zircon U–Pb dating can be divided into four age groups (3283 Ma, 2547 Ma, 2500 Ma, and 2407 Ma), which correspond to the earliest volcanic activity in eastern Hebei, the main mineralization age of the Sijiaying BIF (the mineralization age of primitive sedimentary high-grade iron ore), a regional tectonic–metamorphic event, and the occurrence of migmatization (the mineralization age of hydrothermally altered high-grade iron ore), respectively. Therefore, the Sijiaying BIF and primitive sedimentary high-grade iron ores were deposited and mineralized at 2547 Ma, and the iron orebody was later altered via the hydrothermal solution at 2407 Ma, forming large-scale high-grade iron ores. The present study is focused on the analysis of zircon inclusions found in pink to purple sapphires from Ilakaka (Madagascar) with an optical microscope, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), and micro-Raman spectroscopy in order to update previous knowledge and find insights to separate heated from unheated samples. In total, 157 zircon inclusions in 15 unheated samples and 74 zircon inclusions in 6 heated samples are analysed using micro-Raman spectroscopy with standardised parameters. The full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the main Raman band due to anti-symmetric stretching vibration ν3 of the SiO4 tetrahedron in the zircon structure has been carefully measured. In the unheated samples, it ranges from 6.26 to 21.73 cm−1 with an average of 10.74 cm−1, a median of 10.04 cm−1, and a standard deviation of 2.84 cm−1. On the other hand, it is lower in the heated samples, ranging from 4.83 to 14.97 cm−1 with an average of 7.23 cm−1, median of 7.06 cm−1, and standard deviation of 1.63 cm−1. In our unheated samples, the FWHM was rarely below 7 cm−1. In our heated samples, the FWHM was rarely above 12 cm−1 but mostly below 8 cm−1, with a variation restricted to less than 3 cm−1 in the same sample. The recently discovered 460 Gaodi porphyry Mo-Cu deposit is a sub-economic deposit characterized by low Mo-Cu grades, dispersed mineralization, and separated Mo- and Cu-ore bodies. This study aims to elucidate the factors underlying this type of sub-economic mineralization. Electron-microprobe analyses of biotite from ore-related granite porphyry yielded Ti-in-biotite crystallization temperatures of 677–734 °C (an average of 719 °C) and biotite phenocryst crystallization depths of 6.0 to 12.9 km. LA-ICP-MS analyses of zircons from the same sample revealed average zircon Ce4+/Ce3+ ratios of 299.7 and elevated zircon lg(ƒO2) ratios, with an average ΔFMQ of +6.6 ± 1.9. These discoveries suggest that the magma responsible for ore formation boasts a high degree of oxidation, yet also possesses a magma chamber located at a significant depth within the upper crust. This implies an extensive exsolving depth for fluids. Furthermore, our microthermometry analysis of fluid inclusions reveals that a portion of the fluid experiences considerable conductive cooling as it ascends along the conduit, owing to the depth of fluid exsolution. This process results in the ore fluids remaining in the liquid-only region without undergoing boiling, which is conducive to the enrichment of metals. Late Cretaceous granitoids are developed in the eastern and western districts of the Gejiu ore district, but tin deposits mainly occur in the eastern district, and the reasons for the difference in mineralization between the eastern and western districts are still controversial. Considering the main factors controlling granite Sn fertility, the whole-rock geochemical characteristics of granites on both sides are compared. LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb analyses of the Gejiu granites yielded two age periods: the early phase from 79.2 to 83.3 Ma and the later phase from 73.8 to 75.6 Ma. The western district granites have higher zircon εHf(t), CaO/Na2O, Ba, and Sr concentrations and lower Rb/Sr ratios than the eastern district granites, indicating that the western district granites have more mantle-derived materials in the source than the eastern district granites. Results of oxygen fugacity show that the western granites have a higher oxygen fugacity condition. More depleted Ba, Sr, P, Eu and Ti characteristics with obviously negative Eu anomalies in the eastern granites also have high Rb/Sr ratios and low Nb/Ta and Zr/Hf ratios, indicating that the eastern granites experienced highly magmatic differentiation, attributed to high volatile F contents that can reduce the viscosity and solidus of magma. Combined with the differences in field observations and structural styles, on the whole, the western district granites have higher oxygen fugacities and lower F contents and magmatic differentiation than those in the eastern district granites, indicating that the western district granites are not conducive to mineralization. The Early Cretaceous Yellow Cat Member of the terrestrial Cedar Mountain Formation in Utah, USA. has been interpreted as a "time-rich" unit because of its dinosaur fossils, prominent paleosols, and the results of preliminary chemostratigraphic and geochronologic studies. Herein, we refine prior interpretations with: (1) a new composite C-isotope chemostratigraphic profile from the well-known Utahraptor Ridge dinosaur site, which exhibits δ13C features tentatively interpreted as the Valanginian double-peak carbon isotope excursion (the so-called "Weissert Event") and some unnamed Berriasian features; and (2) a new cryptotephra zircon eruption age of 135.10 ± 0.30/0.31/0.34 Ma (2σ) derived from the CA-ID-TIMS U-Pb analyses of zircons from a paleosol cryptotephra. Our interpretations of δ13C features on our chemostratigraphic profile, in the context of our new radiometric age, are compatible with at least one prior age model for the "Weissert Event" and the most recent revision of the Cretaceous time scale. The Jinzhuping and Changkeng granites are related to the Helong W–Sn ore field in southern Jiangxi Province, China. Three different phases can be found in the Jinzhuping pluton, and their LA-ICP-MS zircon U–Pb ages are 155.2 ± 0.68 Ma, 154.0 ± 0.56 Ma, and 153.4 ± 0.99 Ma, respectively, indicating two types of granitic rocks. All granites in the Helong ore field have similar geochemical characteristics, they have high contents of SiO2 (73.99 wt.%–77.68 wt.%), and total alkali (7.56 wt.%–8.76 wt.%) and are weakly to strongly peraluminous. They are slightly enriched in HREE and depleted in Eu, Ba, Sr, P, and Ti. Zircon εHf(t) values of the Jinzhuping three granites are from −14.4 to −10.4, from −15.3 to −11.4, and from −18.1 to −10.5, and the Hf TDM model ages range from 1.83 to 2.06 Ga, from 1.89 to 2.14 Ga, and from 1.83 to 2.31 Ga, respectively. Whole-rock geochemistry and Hf isotope analysis indicate that the Helong granites experienced a high degree of differentiation and evolution derived by partial melting of the Late Paleoproterozoic crustal materials, and they formed in a backarc caused by low-angle subduction of the Paleopacific plate. The Baishi W-Cu deposit is located in the Nanling metallogenic belt, which is famous for its numerous W deposits and reserves. The formation age of this deposit remains unclear. In order to further infer the formation age of the deposit, this study conducted detailed LA-ICP-MS U-Pb isotopic analyses of zircon and monazite selected from ore-related Baishi granite. The LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb weighted average ages of Baishi granite were determined to be 223 ± 2 Ma and 226 ± 1 Ma, and the LA-ICP-MS U-Pb weighted average ages of monazite were determined to be 224 ± 2 Ma and 223 ± 1 Ma. The BSE image of monazite was homogeneous, and the pattern of rare earth elements had an obvious negative Eu anomaly, indicating that monazite was of magmatic origin. Combining the ages of zircon and monazite, this study inferred that Baishi granite and the Baishi W-Cu deposit formed in the Triassic. The determination of the ore-forming event of the Baishi W-Cu deposit provides new data regarding the important Indosinian (Triassic) mineralization events in the Nanling metallogenic belt and suggests that geologists should strengthen the prospecting work of Indosinian tungsten deposits in the Nanling area. We utilized the Neoma™, a recently released MC-ICP-MS platform offered by ThermoFisher Scientific, to assess the behavior of the Lu-Yb-Hf system during laser ablation analyses of various zircon standards as well as solution-based analyses of the JMC-475 Hf standard doped with varying quantities of Yb and Lu. The primary goal of this work was to characterize the behavior of the Yb interference correction on the Neoma™ platform since this is one of the biggest issues in the Hf isotope analysis community and because the Neoma™ platform will supplant the Neptune™ series instrument. During laser ablation analysis, we found that the overall data quality scales proportionally with the total Hf signal intensity, with higher signal analyses producing extremely accurate (within 1 εHf unit) and precise (sub εHf unit within-run standard errors) data. At low Yb signals (<0.1 V 173Yb), we were not able to produce an accurate internal Yb mass bias factor. However, utilizing an empirical approach allows for the application of session-specific relationships between the Yb and Hf mass bias factors, determined by analysis of standards of varying Yb content, to produce accurate εHf values from zircons with higher Yb/Hf ratios even where the total Hf signal intensity is relatively low. Similar behavior was observed in the solution analyses. Lastly, while the behavior of the Yb interference correction on the Neoma™ platform appears comparable to the Neptune™ series MC-ICP-MS, further work will help refine the understanding of the controls on mass bias behavior, oxide formation, session-to-session stability, etc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Detailed mapping and structural observations on the Cycladic Blueschist Unit (CBU) on Iraklia Island integrated with detrital zircon (DZ) U-Pb ages elucidate the Mesozoic pre-subduction and the Cenozoic orogenic evolution. Iraklia tectonostratigraphy includes a heterogeneous Lower Schist Fm., juxtaposed against a Marble Fm. and an overlying Upper Schist Fm. The contact is an extensional ductile-to-brittle-ductile, top-to-N shear zone, kinematically associated with the Oligo-Miocene exhumation. The DZ spectra of the Lower Schist have Gondwanan/peri-Gondwanan provenance signatures and point to Late Triassic Maximum Depositional Ages (MDAs). A quartz-rich schist lens yielded Precambrian DZ ages exclusively and is interpreted as part of the pre-Variscan metasedimentary Cycladic Basement, equivalent to schists of the Ios Island core. The Upper Schist represents a distinctly different stratigraphic package with late Cretaceous MDAs and dominance of Late Paleozoic DZ ages, suggestive of a more internal Pelagonian source. The contrast in the DZ U-Pb record between Lower and Upper Schist likely reflects the difference between a Paleotethyan and Neotethyan geodynamic imprint. The Triassic DZ input from eroded volcanic material is related to the final Paleotethys closure and Pindos/CBU rift basin opening, while late Cretaceous metamorphic/magmatic zircons and ~48–56 Ma zircon rims constrain the onset of Neotethyan convergence and high-pressure subduction metamorphism. The about 2055-Ma-old mafic to ultramafic Uitkomst Complex in the Mpumalanga Province of South Africa hosts the low-grade-large-tonnage Ni-Cu-PGE deposit, Nkomati. The complex is regarded to represent a satellite to the Bushveld Complex and a feeder to an eroded magmatic reservoir in the southeast. Aeromagnetic surveys and previous drilling indicated an overall northwestern-downdip extension of the complex, but the question is to what extent and in which expression can the complete intrusion be found under cover in the northwest? Answering this, a mineralogical, geochemical and geochronological investigation of a borehole intersection of the whole complex at Little Mamre was carried out, using petrography, XRF, EPMA and LA-ICP-MS U–Pb analyses of zircons for age determination. Although the total thickness of the rock units is larger than to the southeast, emplacement, litho- and mineral chemistry trends, expression of alteration mineralogy and style of sulphide mineralisation are similar. The amount of sulphide mineralisation is on average less than in the southeast. The upper ultramafic unit contains, more frequently, pegmatoidal sections, and the Chromitiferous Harzburgite unit has less massive chromitite layers than the southeastern parts of the complex, whereas the gabbro(-norite) units contain more interstitial liquid with late-stage minerals. The findings confirm that the anvil-shaped intrusion in cross section continues with increased thickness towards northwest at a shallow dip; although approaching the deeper part of the igneous reservoir, mineral compositions are partially more evolved. The overall mineralogical consistency downdip supports a situation of multiple magma replenishment along a flat-lying, northwest–southeast trending conduit, resulting in an evolved cumulus mineral assemblage in the upper part. Discrete zircons, up to 9 mm in length, occur in alluvial deposits from the Veneto area. They are likely derived from the disaggregation of lamprophyric rocks belonging to a regional, pervasive dyke-swarm. Zircon and REE phases occur in both alkaline lamprophyres and connate calcite-bearing felsic lithics and their debris in lamprophyre breccia. We present 36 new complete U–Pb and trace element analyses of zircons and associated inclusions. We used a statistical approach on a larger dataset using new and literature data to evaluate the confidence figure to give an estimation of age of zircons. Inclusions suggest a genetic link with an S–CO2–ZrO–BaO–SrO–CaO-rich fluid/melt possibly associated with carbonate-rich alkaline parental magma and a metasomatised mantle source. This paper confirms the importance of calcite–syenite and lamprophyre genetic link and zircon magmatic origin, in contrast with hydrothermal and metamorphic zircons. U–Pb dating by LA-ICP-MS provides time constrains (40.5–48.4 Ma, Lutetian), consistent with the age of the alkaline magmatic event. Trace element data indicate a link to anorogenic magmatism associated with mantle upwelling. Complex zoning is highlighted by cathodoluminescence images. The pre- to post-Late Neoproterozoic geological histories in the south to southwestern part of Mamfe Basin (SW Cameroon) were reported following analysis of the zircon crystals from their host rocks. A genetic model was developed for the zircon host rocks' formation conditions, and the registered post-emplacement events were presented. The obtained ages were correlated with the data available for rocks in the Cameroon Mobile Belt, SE Nigeria, and the Borborema Province of NE Brazil. Separated zircons from Araru black to whitish gneiss, Araru whitish-grey gneiss, and Mboifong migmatite were analyzed for their morphology and texture U-Th-Pb composition, and U-Pb ages. Published U-Pb zircon ages for Otu granitic pegmatite, Babi mica schist, and Nkogho I-type anatectic granite were updated. Zircon ages in Araru black to whitish gneiss; Araru whitish-grey, Mboifong migmatite, Babi mica schist, Nkogho I-type anatectic granite, and Otu granitic pegmatite date the Eburnean tectono-magmatic/metamorphic event in Cameroon and SE Nigeria. The Late Paleoproterozoic to Early Mesoproterozoic ages record extensional (continental rift) settings and anorogenic magmatism in the Borborema Province in the NE of Brazil. These ages date collisional phases between the São Francisco–Congo and West African cratons and the Saharan metacraton with metamorphism and magmatism in Cameroon. They also date the Kibarian tectono-magmatic/metamorphism and PanAfrican tectono-magmatic/metamorphism in SE Nigeria. The Late Paleoproterozoic to Early Mesoproterozoic ages date the Cariris Velhos orogeny in the Borborema Province in NE Brazil, with Early Tonian crustal rifting, magmatism, and metamorphism and the collisional phase of the Brasiliano orogeny with syn-collisional plutons and extensive shear zoning and post-collisional granite intrusions. The middle Mesoproterozoic is a crucial time period for understanding the Precambrian tectonic evolutionary history of the northern Yangtze Block and its relationship with the supercontinent Columbia. The Dagushi Group (Gp) is one of the Mesoproterozoic strata rarely found at the northern margin of the Yangtze Block. U–Pb geochronology and Lu–Hf isotopic analyses of detrital zircons were analyzed for three metamorphic quartz sandstone samples collected from the Luohanling and Dangpuling formations of the Dagushi Gp. These metasandstones yielded major zircon populations at ~2.65 Ga and ~1.60 Ga, respectively. The ~1.60 Ga ages first discovered yield a narrow range of ɛHf(t) values from −1.8 to +1.8, which lie above the old crust evolutionary line of the Yangtze Block, suggesting the addition of mantle material. Trace element data indicate that ~1.60 Ga detrital zircons share a basic provenance, whereby they have low Hf/Th and high Nb/Yb ratios. Zircon discrimination diagrams suggest that the ~1.60 Ga detrital zircon source rocks formed in an intra-plate rifting environment. Dagushi Gp provenance studies indicate that the ~1.60 Ga detrital zircon was most likely sourced from the interior Yangtze Block. Our study is aimed at reconstructing the Palaeozoic–early Mesozoic plate tectonic development of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt in central and southeast Mongolia (Gobi). We use sandstone provenance signatures including laser ablation U-Pb ages of detrital zircons, their epsilon hafnium isotope signatures, and detrital framework grain analyses. We adopt a well-established terran subdivision of central and southeastern Mongolia. However, according to their affinity and tectonic assemblage we group them into three larger units consisting of continental basement, rift-passive continental margin and arc elements, respectively. These are in today's coordinates: (i) in the north the late Cambrian collage from which the later Mongol-Okhotsk and the Central Mongolia-Erguna mountain ranges resulted, (ii) in the south a heterogeneous block from which the South Mongolia-Xin'gan and Inner Mongolia-Xilin belts developed, and (iii) in between we still distinguish the intra-oceanic volcanic arc of the Gurvansayhan terrane. We present a model for paleotectonic development for the period from Cambrian to Jurassic, which also integrates findings from the Central Asian Orogenic Belt in China and Russia. This mobilistic model implies an interplay of rift and drift processes, ocean formation, oceanic subduction, basin inversion, collision and suture formation in space and time. Zircon with polycrystalline or polygranular appearance is either produced in the magmatic environment through crystallization, or due to deformation in metamorphic settings (including regional metamorphism and ductile shear zones), or as a result of shock-induced recrystallization. All three types can be easily confused and potentially lead to incorrect interpretations, especially if the crystallographic orientation analyses of zircon are not conducted. It is particularly important to establish the difference between tectonically-deformed polygranular zircon and shock-induced polygranular zircon because the latter serves as an indicator of shock event and is often used for dating asteroid impacts. In this paper, a series of polycrystalline zircon grains from ductile shear zones and metamorphic rocks are analyzed using a combination of techniques (BSE, CL, orientation contrast, EBSD, and microprobe mapping), and their properties are compared to reported polycrystalline zircons from magmatic and impact settings. The Sulu orogenic belt is the source of information on important magmatic events associated with the collision of the Yangtze craton and North China craton (NCC) and the destruction of the NCC during the Mesozoic in eastern China. In this study, we have, for the first time, identified a monzonitic granitic pluton. We hereby present petrological, geochemical, and zircon U-Pb-Hf-O isotopic data, shedding new light on the petrogenesis and tectonic implications for the granitic pluton in the Sulu belt. LA-ICP-MS and SHRIMP II analyses of zircon grains suggest that the monzonitic granitic pluton was crystallized in the Early Cretaceous (ca. 120 Ma). Geochemically, the granitic pluton shows sub-alkaline, high-K calc-alkaline, and metaluminous signatures, and is genetically of I-type granite, excluding the possibility of S-type granite, as evidenced by mantle-like zircon oxygen isotopic features. In addition, the pluton is enriched in light REE and large-ion lithophile elements (LILE) (e.g., La, Cs, Ba, K, and Pb), but depleted in high-field-strength elements (HFSE) (e.g., Nb, Ta, P, and Ti), suggesting an arc-related affinity. Zircon Hf isotopes (εHf(t) = −27.51~−32.35; TDM2 = 2979~3175 Ma) and mantle-like δ18O values (5.12–6.24‰) together indicate that the identified granitic pluton is derived from the partial melting (reworking) of the ancient mafic lower crustal material, with no supra-crustal material participation. Moreover, high Magnesium number (Mg# = 42–49) values and mafic micro-granular enclaves suggest that mantle-derived magma participated in the evolution of the granitic pluton in this study. Integrating the findings of this study and previous work, we propose that the Caochang granitic pluton is derived from the partial melting of the deep Yangtze basaltic lower crust during the Early Cretaceous, and that the large-scale thinning of the lithospheric mantle was the main factor that led to Early Cretaceous magmatic flare-up in the Sulu orogenic belt. The Rizhao Hujialin area is located in the central Sulu ultrahigh-pressure orogenic belt, where garnet clinopyroxenite is exposed in the upper part of an ultramafic rock complex and serpentinized dunite is exposed in its lower part. Based on textural criteria, the garnet clinopyroxenites were divided into three types: Equigranular garnet, porphyroclastic garnet, and megacrystic garnet pyroxenites. The garnet clinopyroxenites have convex-upward chondrite-normalized rare earth element patterns, large positive Pb anomalies, and depletion of high-field-strength elements (e.g., Nb, Zr, and Ti), suggesting a mantle source protolith overprinted by fluid metasomatism. Petrographic, mineral chemistry, phase equilibrium modeling, and zircon U–Pb geochronology data show that the evolutionary stages of the Hujialin garnet clinopyroxenites were as follows: Stage I: formation of the magmatic protoliths; stage II: formation of megacrystic garnet pyroxenite accompanying subduction; stage III: formation of porphyroclastic or equigranular garnet clinopyroxenite with a mineral assemblage of garnet + clinopyroxene + ilmenite + humite accompanying initial exhumation at ~215.0 ± 5.7 Ma; stage IV = progressive cooling and decompression associated with the crystallization of water-bearing minerals such as clinochlore and pargasite at 206 Ma; and Stage V = late epidote amphibolite-facies retrograde metamorphism producing a mineral assemblage of garnet + clinopyroxene + amphibole + chlorite + epidote + ilmenite at ~180–174 Ma associated with fluid activity in shear–tensional fractures and/or pores. The P-T conditions of the peak metamorphism were estimated at 4.5 ± 0.5 GPa and 800 ± 50 °C. Retrograde metamorphism recorded conditions of 1.0 GPa and 710 ± 30 °C during the exhumation and cooling process. The mineral transformation from early high-Al clinopyroxene to garnet and to late diopside records the general metamorphic evolution during subduction and exhumation, respectively. Volcanic rocks, as the extrusive counterparts of the mineralized intrusions, can provide important information on the magma source, petrogenesis, and metallogenic conditions of the coeval porphyry-epithermal system. Shanghang Basin volcanic rocks are spatially and temporally related to a series of adjacent porphyry-epithermal Cu–Au deposits, and they can be used as a window to study the related deposits. Two laser-ablation–inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry zircon U–Pb analyses of the volcanic rocks yield weighted mean ages of ~105 Ma, identical to the age of the coeval porphyry-epithermal mineralization. Rocks have SiO2 contents of 55.4 to 74.8 wt % and belong to the high-K to shoshonitic series, characterized by strong differentiation of light rare-earth elements (REEs) relative to heavy REEs (mean LaN/YbN = 16.88); enrichment in light REEs, Rb, Th, and U; and depletion in Nb, Ta, Zr, Hf, and Ti. The volcanic rocks display (87Sr/86Sr)i values of 0.709341 to 0.711610, εNd(t) values of −6.9 to −3.3 εHf(t) values of −3.95 to −0.30, and δ18O values of 6.07‰–6.79‰, suggesting that the parental magmas were derived from a mantle source enriched by subduction-related progress. SiO2 content shows a strong negative correlation with the contents of some major and trace elements, indicating that fractional crystallization played an important role in the generation of these rocks. A binary mixing model of Hf–O isotopes gives an estimated degree of crustal contamination of 30%. In addition, magnetite crystallized early, and the samples showed high zircon EuN/EuN* values (0.48–0.68), indicating that the parental magma had a high oxygen fugacity. The inferred suppression of plagioclase crystallization and increasing hornblende crystallization during magma evolution suggest that the magma was water rich. The high-water content and high oxygen fugacity of the magma promoted the dissolving of sulfides containing Cu and Au in the source area and contributed to the migration of ore-forming elements. The Jiangjiatun Mo deposit is a recently discovered molybdenum deposit in the easternmost area of the Yan-Liao metallogenic belt, North China Craton. Quartz vein-type Mo mineralization at Jiangjiatun is associated with the granitic porphyry stock. In this study, we performed a combined zircon U–Pb and molybdenite Re-Os dating study on the Jiangjiatun Mo deposit to constrain its mineralization age and metallogenic setting. Laser ablation inductively coupled mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) zircon U–Pb analyses suggest that the granitic porphyry was formed during the Late Jurassic, with a weighted mean 206Pb/238U age of 154 ± 1 Ma (2σ). Seven molybdenite samples from the Jiangjiatun deposit yield a 187Re–187Os isochron age of 157.5 ± 0.5 Ma (2σ). The discrepancy between the U–Pb and Re–Os ages may be explained (1) by the "2 sigma" measurement uncertainty, or (2) by the different closure temperature of the Re–Os isotopic system of molybdenite and the U–Pb isotopic system of zircon. Even though there is a small difference between the zircon U–Pb and molybdenite Re–Os ages, we can clearly identify a Late Jurassic Mo mineralization event at Jiangjiatun in the easternmost area of the Yan-Liao metallogenic belt. The moderate Re concentrations (13 to 73 ppm) in molybdenite from the Jiangjiatun Mo deposit are indicative of the involvement of the mantle materials into the Mo mineralization. The Jiangjiatun Mo deposit is likely the result of the subduction of the paleo-Pacific plate beneath the North China Craton during the Late Jurassic. Combined with the available published regional robust geochronological data, we proposed that the Mo mineralization in the Yan-Liao belt is in good agreement with the tectonic transition from Late Triassic post-collision extensional setting due to the closure of the paleo-Asian ocean to the Yanshanian (J–K1) continental arc setting in response to the subduction of the paleo-Pacific Plate. The newly discovered Magushan Cu-Mo polymetallic deposit, located in southeastern Anhui, eastern China, is a middle-scale skarn-type polymetallic deposit with different ore types of veinlets-disseminated skarn (the primary type), quartz veins, and porphyry. LA-ICP-MS zircon U–Pb analyses yielded a crystallization age of 135.7 ± 1.5 Ma for the ore-related granodiorite in Magushan. The granodiorites are I-type granites in nature, characterized by metaluminous and high-K calc-alkaline characteristics. They are enriched in large ion lithophile elements (LILEs, e.g., Ba, Th, and U) and light rare earth elements (LREEs), and depleted in high field strength elements (NFSEs, e.g., Nb, Ta, and Ti) and heavy rare earth element (HREEs), with slightly negative Eu anomalies (Eu/Eu* = 0.81–0.86). These granodiorites show high Mg# (mainly > 40) values, high MgO (1.73–1.96 wt. %) and low Na2O (<4.21 wt. %) contents, with whole-rock (87Sr/86Sr)i ratios (0.708877 to 0.710398), negative εNd(t) values of −5.4 to −5.2, and negative zircon εHf(t) values of −4.60 to −1.37, with old two-stage Hf model ages (TDM2) between 1.2‒1.5 Ga. Besides, they are characterized by high radiogenic Pb isotopic compositions with (206Pb/204Pb)i = 18.44–18.56, (207Pb/204Pb)i = 15.66–15.67, and (208Pb/204Pb)i = 38.77–38.87. These granodiorites are characterized by high zircon Ce4+/Ce3+ ratios (average 893) and Eu/Eu* ratios (average 0.51), indicating high magmatic oxygen fugacities. The distinct geochemical and isotopic features suggest that the Magushan granodiorites could be formed by metasomatized mantle-derived magmas, mixing with materials from Neoproterozoic crust that is widely distributed in the Southern Anhui. This study concludes that the formation of the Magushan Cu-Mo polymetallic deposits may largely depend on an oxidizing environment and multi-sources mixed of mantle- and crust-derived materials.
