Mesotrione (MET) belongs to the p-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD)-inhibiting class of maize post-emergence herbicides, and it is safe for maize at the recommended doses, but the safety of MET differs among maize varieties in actual field production. In this study, four different maize varieties, ZD958, SN3, ST6 and POP16, were used as experimental materials to analyze their physiological responses to MET by comparing the activities of photosynthesis and antioxidant enzymes as well as the HPPD activity. The results showed that ZD958 was the most resistant to MET, followed by SN3 and ST6, and POP16 was the most sensitive to MET. The primary photosynthetic and antioxidant enzyme indices of all four maize varieties indicated that the resistant variety ZD958 was significantly higher than the sensitive variety POP16. HPPD activity was highest in ZD958 followed by SN3 and ST6 in both treated and control groups. POP16 exhibited the lowest HPPD activity. The results showed that the differences in resistance to MET in different types of maize varieties were closely related to the photosynthetic efficiency of plants and the HPPD activity. In this study, we aimed to demonstrate the feasibility and safety of navigating the ureters, middle sacral artery (MSA), and superior hypogastric nerve (SHN) using indocyanine green (ICG) and near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging during robot-assisted sacrocolpopexy (RSCP). Overall, 15 patients who underwent RSCP for apical vaginal prolapse were retrospectively enrolled. All patients underwent cystoscopic intraureteric instillation of 5 cc ICG (2.5 mg/mL) before RSCP and intravenous injection of 3 cc ICG during presacral dissection and mesh fixation. In all patients, the fluorescent right ureter was clearly identified in real time. The MSA was visualized on ICG-NIRF images in 80% (13/15) of patients. The mean time from ICG injection to MSA visualization was 43.7 s; the mean duration of the arterial phase was 104.3 s. Fluorescent SHN was detected in 73.3% (11/15) of patients. The time from ICG injection to SHN fluorescence was 48.4 s; the duration of fluorescence was 177.2 s. There was no transfusion, iatrogenic ureteral injury, or bowel or urinary dysfunction. Our results indicated that intraoperative ureter, MSA, and SHN mapping using ICG-NIRF images during RSCP is a valuable and safe technique to avoid iatrogenic ureteral, vascular, and neural injuries and to simplify surgical procedures. Photosensitizers cause oxidative damages in various biological systems under light. In this study, the method for analyzing photosensitizing activity of various dietary and medicinal sources was developed using 1-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-3,5-diphenylformazan (thiazolyl blue formazan; MTT-F) as a probe. Significant and quantitative decolorization of MTT-F was observed in the presence of photosensitizers used in this study under light but not under dark conditions. The decolorization of MTT-F occurred irradiation time-, light intensity-, and photosensitizer concentration-dependently. The decolorized MTT-F was reversibly reduced by living cells; the LC-MS/MS results indicated the formation of oxidized products with −1 m/z of base peak from MTT-F, suggesting that MTT-F decolorized by photosensitizers was its corresponding tetrazolium. The present results indicate that MTT-F is a reliable probe for the quantitative analysis of photosensitizing activities, and the MTT-F-based method can be an useful tool for screening and evaluating photosensitizing properties of various compounds used in many industrial purposes. This paper proposes a two-party evolutionary game model of government and enterprise to solve the dilemma of industrial pollution control and explore the mode of government and enterprise collaborative governance. The local equilibrium points of the game model in four cases are calculated and analyzed, and the results show that government power alone cannot help enterprises achieve an ideal level of pollution reduction, and it is necessary to introduce public power for supervision. Based on the above, a tripartite evolutionary game model comprising the government, the public, and the enterprise is proposed. When the costs and benefits of the tripartite game players meet certain conditions, the system will evolve to a state of equilibrium (0,1,1). Following the current situation of economic development in China, the parameters of the two-party and tripartite evolutionary game are assigned, and the operating path and system's evolution trajectory of the two-party and tripartite industrial pollution control are simulated by Matlab R2016a software. It is indicated that whether the government participates in supervision or not, an enterprise will actively control pollution under strong public supervision, which can provide feasible suggestions for the selection of industrial pollution control policies. The global antibiotic resistance crisis has drawn attention to the development of treatment methods less prone to inducing drug resistance, such as antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT). However, there is an increasing demand for new photosensitizers capable of efficiently absorbing in the near-infrared (NIR) region, enabling antibacterial treatment in deeper sites. Additionally, advanced strategies need to be developed to avert drug resistance stemming from prolonged exposure. Herein, we have designed a conjugated oligoelectrolyte, namely TTQAd, with a donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) backbone, enabling the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) under NIR light irradiation, and cationic adamantaneammonium groups on the side chains, enabling the host-guest interaction with curcubit[7]uril (CB7). Due to the amphiphilic nature of TTQAd, it could spontaneously form nanoassemblies in aqueous solution. Upon CB7 treatment, the positive charge of the cationic adamantaneammonium group was largely shielded by CB7, leading to a further aggregation of the nanoassemblies and a reduced antibacterial efficacy of TTQAd. Subsequent treatment with competitor guests enables the release of TTQAd and restores its antibacterial effect. The reversible supramolecular switch for regulating the antibacterial effect offers the potential for the controlled release of active photosensitizers, thereby showing promise in preventing the emergence of drug-resistant bacteria. Deltamethrin, an important pyrethroid insecticide, is frequently detected in human samples. This study aims to assess the potential effects of deltamethrin on human health and investigate the patterns of residue enrichment and elimination in 112 healthy laying hens. These hens were administered 20 mg·kg−1 deltamethrin based on their body weight. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was used to investigate the residue enrichment pattern and elimination pattern of deltamethrin in the hens. The results indicated a significant increase in the concentration of deltamethrin in chicken manure during the treatment period. By the 14th day of administration, the concentration of deltamethrin in the stool reached 13,510.9 ± 172.24 μg·kg−1, with a fecal excretion rate of 67.56%. The pulmonary deltamethrin concentration was the second highest at 3844.98 ± 297.14 μg·kg−1. These findings suggest that chicken feces contain substantial amounts of deltamethrin after 14 days of continuous administration, and that it can easily transfer to the lungs. After 21 days of drug withdrawal, the residual concentration of deltamethrin in the fat of laying hens was 904.25 ± 295.32 μg·kg−1, with a half-life of 17 days and a slow elimination rate. In contrast, the lungs showed relatively low elimination half-lives of 0.2083 days, indicating faster elimination of deltamethrin in this tissue. These results highlight differences in the rate of deltamethrin elimination in different tissues during drug withdrawal. The fat of laying hens exhibited the highest residue of deltamethrin and the slowest elimination rate, while the lungs showed the fastest elimination rate. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a chemical obtained from Cannabis sativa; it has therapeutic effects on anxiety and cognition and anti-inflammatory properties. Although pharmacological applications of CBD in many types of tumors have recently been reported, the mechanism of action of CBD is not yet fully understood. In this study, we perform an mRNA-seq analysis to identify the target genes of CBD after determining the cytotoxic concentrations of CBD using an MTT assay. CBD treatment regulated the expression of genes related to DNA repair and cell division, with metallothionein (MT) family genes being identified as having highly increased expression levels induced by CBD. It was also found that the expression levels of MT family genes were decreased in colorectal cancer tissues compared to those in normal tissues, indicating that the downregulation of MT family genes might be highly associated with colorectal tumor progression. A qPCR experiment revealed that the expression levels of MT family genes were increased by CBD. Moreover, MT family genes were regulated by CBD or crude extract but not by other cannabinoids, suggesting that the expression of MT family genes was specifically induced by CBD. A synergistic effect between CBD and MT gene transfection or zinc ion treatment was found. In conclusion, MT family genes as novel target genes could synergistically increase the anticancer activity of CBD by regulating the zinc ions in human colorectal cancer cells. Drought has severely impacted worldwide agricultural land, resulting in substantial yield loss and abiotic pressures in crops such as Chinese cabbage. Paclobutrazol (PBZ) and plant growth-stimulating bacteria have been extensively recommended to reduce a variety of stresses in crops. Considering these facts, we used PBZ and rhizobacterium Variovorax sp. YNA59, a microbe with potential plant growth-stimulating qualities, in Chinese cabbage under drought stress and non-stressed conditions, and we observed their impacts on morphological and physiological attributes. Our findings revealed a considerable improvement in total plant biomass growth after treatment with YNA59 (28%) and PBZ (8%) under drought conditions. In contrast, negative results of PBZ were observed under normal conditions, suppressing plant growth and reducing plant biomass. The increase in physiological parameters, such as chlorophyll content, relative water content, and photochemical efficiencies of PS II, were observed in YNA59-treated plants, followed by PBZ, especially under drought. Furthermore, drought stress significantly increased the endogenous phytohormone abscisic acid level, whereas PBZ and YNA59 inoculations significantly decreased it. Antioxidant analysis revealed that PBZ and YNA increased glutathione and catalase and decreased polyphenol oxidase and peroxidase levels. These findings suggested that rhizobacterium YNA59 could be more significant for conferring water stress in the Chinese cabbage plant than PBZ. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Various lithography techniques have been widely used for the fabrication of next-generation device applications. Micro/nanoscale pattern structures formed by lithographic methods significantly improve the performance capabilities of the devices. Here, we introduce a novel method that combines the patterning of nanotransfer printing (nTP) and laser micromachining to fabricate multiscale pattern structures on a wide range of scales. Prior to the formation of various nano-in-micro-in-millimeter (NMM) patterns, the nTP process is employed to obtain periodic nanoscale patterns on the target substrates. Then, an optimum laser-based patterning that effectively engraves various nanopatterned surfaces, in this case, spin-cast soft polymer film, rigid polymer film, a stainless still plate, and a Si substrate, is established. We demonstrate the formation of well-defined square and dot-shaped multiscale NMM-patterned structures by the combined patterning method of nTP and laser processes. Furthermore, we present the generation of unusual text-shaped NMM pattern structures on colorless polyimide (CPI) film, showing optically excellent rainbow luminescence based on the configuration of multiscale patterns from nanoscale to milliscale. We expect that this combined patterning strategy will be extendable to other nano-to-micro fabrication processes for application to various nano/microdevices with complex multiscale pattern geometries. High-resolution nanotransfer printing (nTP) technologies have attracted a tremendous amount of attention due to their excellent patternability, high productivity, and cost-effectiveness. However, there is still a need to develop low-cost mold manufacturing methods, because most nTP techniques generally require the use of patterned molds fabricated by high-cost lithography technology. Here, we introduce a novel nTP strategy that uses imprinted metal molds to serve as an alternative to a Si stamp in the transfer printing process. We present a method by which to fabricate rigid surface-patterned metallic molds (Zn, Al, and Ni) based on the process of direct extreme-pressure imprint lithography (EPIL). We also demonstrate the nanoscale pattern formation of functional materials, in this case Au, TiO2, and GST, onto diverse surfaces of SiO2/Si, polished metal, and slippery glass by the versatile nTP method using the imprinted metallic molds with nanopatterns. Furthermore, we show the patterning results of nanoporous crossbar arrays on colorless polyimide (CPI) by a repeated nTP process. We expect that this combined nanopatterning method of EPIL and nTP processes will be extendable to the fabrication of various nanodevices with complex circuits based on micro/nanostructures. Asthma is a chronic inflammatory lung disease that causes respiratory difficulties. Black ginseng extract (BGE) has preventative effects on respiratory inflammatory diseases such as asthma. However, the pharmacological mechanisms behind the anti-asthmatic activity of BGE remain unknown. To investigate the anti-asthmatic mechanism of BGE, phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate plus ionomycin (PMA/Iono)-stimulated mouse EL4 cells and ovalbumin (OVA)-induced mice with allergic airway inflammation were used. Immune cells (eosinophils/macrophages), interleukin (IL)-4, -5, -13, and serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels were measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Inflammatory cell recruitment and mucus secretion in the lung tissue were estimated. Protein expression was analyzed via Western blotting, including that of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and the activation of protein kinase C theta (PKCθ) and its downstream signaling molecules. BGE decreased T helper (Th)2 cytokines, serum IgE, mucus secretion, and iNOS expression in mice with allergic airway inflammation, thereby providing a protective effect. Moreover, BGE and its major ginsenosides inhibited the production of Th2 cytokines in PMA/Iono-stimulated EL4 cells. In EL4 cells, these outcomes were accompanied by the inactivation of PKCθ and its downstream transcription factors, such as nuclear factor of activated T cells (NFAT), nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), activator of transcription 6 (STAT6), and GATA binding protein 3 (GATA3), which are involved in allergic airway inflammation. BGE also inhibited the activation of PKCθ and the abovementioned transcriptional factors in the lung tissue of mice with allergic airway inflammation. High pathogenicity avian influenza (HPAI) viruses of clade 2.3.4.4 H5Nx have been circulating in poultry and wild birds worldwide since 2014. In South Korea, after the first clade 2.3.4.4b H5N1 HPAI viruses were isolated from wild birds in October 2021, additional HPAIV outbreaks occurred in poultry farms until April 2022. In this study, we genetically characterized clade 2.3.4.4b H5N1 HPAIV isolates in 2021–2022 and examined the pathogenicity and transmissibility of A/mandarin duck/Korea/WA585/2021 (H5N1) (WA585/21) in chickens and ducks. Clade 2.3.4.4b H5N1 HPAI viruses caused 47 outbreaks in poultry farms and were also detected in multiple wild birds. Phylogenetic analysis of HA and NA genes indicated that Korean H5N1 HPAI isolates were closely related to Eurasian viruses isolated in 2021–2022. Four distinct genotypes of H5N1 HPAI viruses were identified in poultry, and the majority were also found in wild birds. WA585/21 inoculated chickens showed virulent pathogenicity with high mortality and transmission. Meanwhile, ducks infected with the virus showed no mortality but exhibited high rates of transmission and longer viral shedding than chickens, suggesting that they may play an important role as silent carriers. In this study, we characterized the bioactive properties of three important brown seaweed species, Sargassum thunbergii, Undaria pinnatifida, and Saccharina japonica, by subcritical water extraction (SWE), as these species are well known for their beneficial health effects. Their physiochemical properties, including potential antioxidant, antihypertensive, and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity, and the antibacterial activity of the hydroysates were also analyzed. The highest total phlorotannin, total sugar content, and reducing sugar content in the S. thunbergii hydrolysates were 38.82 ± 0.17 mg PGE/g, 116.66 ± 0.19 mg glucose/g dry sample, and 53.27 ± 1.57 mg glucose/g dry sample, respectively. The highest ABTS+ and DPPH antioxidant activities were obtained in the S. japonica hydrolysates (124.77 ± 2.47 and 46.35 ± 0.01 mg Trolox equivalent/g, respectively) and the highest FRAP activity was obtained in the S. thunbergii hydrolysates (34.47 ± 0.49 mg Trolox equivalent/g seaweed). In addition, the seaweed extracts showed antihypertensive (≤59.77 ± 0.14%) and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity (≤68.05 ± 1.15%), as well as activity against foodborne pathogens. Non-enzymatic sensors with the capability of long-term stability and low cost are promising in glucose monitoring applications. Boronic acid (BA) derivatives offer a reversible and covalent binding mechanism for glucose recognition, which enables continuous glucose monitoring and responsive insulin release. To improve selectivity to glucose, a diboronic acid (DBA) structure design has been explored and has become a hot research topic for real-time glucose sensing in recent decades. This paper reviews the glucose recognition mechanism of boronic acids and discusses different glucose sensing strategies based on DBA-derivatives-based sensors reported in the past 10 years. The tunable pKa, electron-withdrawing properties, and modifiable group of phenylboronic acids were explored to develop various sensing strategies, including optical, electrochemical, and other methods. However, compared to the numerous monoboronic acid molecules and methods developed for glucose monitoring, the diversity of DBA molecules and applied sensing strategies remains limited. The challenges and opportunities are also highlighted for the future of glucose sensing strategies, which need to consider practicability, advanced medical equipment fitment, patient compliance, as well as better selectivity and tolerance to interferences. Simple Summary: Oregano essential oil is a plant essential oil extracted from the plant oregano (Origanum vulgare), which has an antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effect. Bovine mastitis is a process in which bacterial infection and inflammation co-exist. In this study, network pharmacology technology was used to explore the mechanism of oregano essential oil in the treatment of bovine mastitis, and to predict the core genes and key signaling pathways exerting therapeutic effects. The results showed that the key action targets of oregano essential oil in the treatment of dairy bovine mastitis were TNF, TLR4, ALB, IL-1β, TLR2, IL-6, IFNG, and MyD88, and the main signaling pathways were PI3K-Akt, MAPK, IL-17, NF-κ B. The molecular docking confirmed that thymol and carvacrol in oregano essential oil had a good binding ability to the core targets of TNF, IL-6, MyD88, and ALB. These results indicated that thymol and carvacrol had good anti-inflammatory effects. Therefore, oregano essential oil was considered to have a good therapeutic effect on bovine mastitis. The active components, potential targets, and mechanisms of action of oregano essential oil in the treatment of bovine mastitis disease were investigated using network pharmacology and molecular docking approaches. The TCMSP and literature databases were examined for the main compounds in oregano essential oil. Afterward, the physical, chemical, and bioavailability characteristics of the components were evaluated. The PubChem, BATMAN, PharmMapper, and Uniprot databases were utilized to predict the target genes of the major components of oregano essential oil. Via the databases of DrugBank, OMIM, GeneCards, TTD, and DisGenet, the disease targets of bovine mastitis were discovered. We analyzed common targets and built protein–protein interaction (PPI) networks using the STRING database. Key genes were analyzed, obtained, and compound–target–pathway–disease visualization networks were created using Cytoscape. For the GO function and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis, the DAVID database was utilized. Molecular docking via Autodock Tools was utilized to evaluate the reliability of the interactions between oregano essential oil and hub targets. Thymol, carvacrol, and p-cymene are the three major components found in oregano essential oil. The potential targets (TNF, TLR4, ALB, IL-1β, TLR2, IL-6, IFNG, and MyD88) were screened according to the visual network. The enrichment analysis suggested that the major signaling pathways in network pharmacology may include PI3K-Akt, MAPK, IL-17, and NF-κ B. Molecular docking analysis shows that thymol had good docking activity with TNF, IL-6, and MyD88, carvacrol had good docking activity with TNF, and p-cymene had good docking activity with ALB. This study clarified the mechanism of action of oregano essential oil in the treatment of bovine mastitis, thus providing data supporting the potential for the use of oregano essential oil in the development of new therapeutics for bovine mastitis. Glutamate-weighted chemical exchange saturation transfer (GluCEST) is a useful imaging tool to detect glutamate signal alterations caused by neuroinflammation. This study aimed to visualize and quantitatively evaluate hippocampal glutamate alterations in a rat model of sepsis-induced brain injury using GluCEST and proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS). Twenty-one Sprague Dawley rats were divided into three groups (sepsis-induced groups (SEP05, n = 7 and SEP10, n = 7) and controls (n = 7)). Sepsis was induced through a single intraperitoneal injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) at a dose of 5 mg/kg (SEP05) or 10 mg/kg (SEP10). GluCEST values and 1H-MRS concentrations in the hippocampal region were quantified using conventional magnetization transfer ratio asymmetry and a water scaling method, respectively. In addition, we examined immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence staining to observe the immune response and activity in the hippocampal region after LPS exposure. The GluCEST and 1H-MRS results showed that GluCEST values and glutamate concentrations were significantly higher in sepsis-induced rats than those in controls as the LPS dose increased. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic inflammatory lung disease which causes breathing problems. YPL-001, consisting of six iridoids, has potent inhibitory efficacy against COPD. Although YPL-001 has completed clinical trial phase 2a as a natural drug for COPD treatment, the most effective iridoid in YPL-001 and its mechanism for reducing airway inflammation remain unclear. To find an iridoid most effectively reducing airway inflammation, we examined the inhibitory effects of the six iridoids in YPL-001 on TNF or PMA-stimulated inflammation (IL-6, IL-8, or MUC5AC) in NCI-H292 cells. Here, we show that verproside among the six iridoids most strongly suppresses inflammation. Both TNF/NF-κB-induced MUC5AC expression and PMA/PKCδ/EGR-1-induced IL-6/-8 expression are successfully reduced by verproside. Verproside also shows anti-inflammatory effects on a broad range of airway stimulants in NCI-H292 cells. The inhibitory effect of verproside on the phosphorylation of PKC enzymes is specific to PKCδ. Finally, in vivo assay using the COPD-mouse model shows that verproside effectively reduces lung inflammation by suppressing PKCδ activation and mucus overproduction. Altogether, we propose YPL-001 and verproside as candidate drugs for treating inflammatory lung diseases that act by inhibiting PKCδ activation and its downstream pathways. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The recently defined type of cell death ferroptosis has garnered significant attention as a potential new approach to cancer treatment owing to its more immunogenic nature when compared with apoptosis. Ferroptosis is characterized by the depletion of glutathione (GSH)/glutathione peroxidase-4 (GPx4) and iron-dependent lipid peroxidation. Diplacone (DP), a geranylated flavonoid compound found in Paulownia tomentosa fruit, has been identified to have anti-inflammatory and anti-radical activity. In this study, the potential anticancer activity of DP was explored against A549 human lung cancer cells. It was found that DP induced a form of cytotoxicity distinct from apoptosis, which was accompanied by extensive mitochondrial-derived cytoplasmic vacuoles. DP was also shown to increase mitochondrial Ca2+ influx, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and mitochondrial permeability transition (MPT) pore-opening. These changes led to decreases in mitochondrial membrane potential and DP-induced cell death. DP also induced lipid peroxidation and ATF3 expression, which are hallmarks of ferroptosis. The ferroptosis inhibitors ferrostatin-1 and liproxstatin-1 were effective in counteracting the DP-mediated ferroptosis-related features. Our results could contribute to the use of DP as a ferroptosis-inducing agent, enabling studies focusing on the relationship between ferroptosis and the immunogenic cell death of cancer cells. Drip irrigation is fundamental in water-saving agricultural greenhouses, especially in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) greenhouses. However, a long-term drip irrigation has been observed to be associated with soil degradation, concerning both soil aggregate structure and soil microbial community. To evaluate how drip irrigation scheduling influences the soil structure and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), a long-term irrigation experiment was carried out in a tomato greenhouse in 2011, using an irrigation program with dripping water starting when the soil reached a suction of 20 kPa (D20), 30 kPa (D30) and 40 kPa (D40). In 2017, we tested the AMF community and soil aggregate composition by soil wet sieving. Aggregates of 0.25–1 mm represented the main class of aggregates (32.4%–43.1%) in this experiment. At D30, we measured the highest mean weight diameter (MWD) and soil organic carbon (SOC) and glomalin-related soil protein (GRSP) levels. Thus, D30 promoted soil aggregate stability in the greenhouse. According to the high-throughput sequencing results of AMF, Glomus at D30 was the main factor leading to a high soil aggregate stability, because its OTU relative abundance was significantly higher than those of Ambispora and Paraglomus. Through redundancy analysis, the GRSP concentration was positively correlated with the SOC and total N (TN) levels and with the presence of the genera Ambispora, Glomus and Paraglomus. This evidenced that AMF and SOC helped to increase GRSP concentration and aggregate stability. Simple Summary: Bovine protozoal disease is a common disease that causes huge economic losses to the cattle breeding industry. Imidocarb (IMD) can be used to treat protozoal parasite diseases in cattle including babesiosis, anaplasmosis, and eperythrozoonosis. However, residues of imidocarb in bovine tissues pose a risk to food safety. This study conducted a residue depletion of imidocarb in cattle based on an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method and obtained the IMD withdrawal time in cattle by the calculation through the WT1.4 software. The results show that the liver and kidney may be the target tissues for IMD and the withdrawal time of IMD in cattle is 224 days at the dosage of 3.0 mg/kg. This will guide farmers in the proper use of imidocarb and ensure human food safety. In this study, an ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method was developed for the residue depletion of imidocarb (IMD) in bovine tissues, and the drug withdrawal time of IMD was determined. Twenty-five clinically healthy cattle (body weight 300 kg ± 15 kg) were randomly divided into five groups of five cattle each. The cattle were treated subcutaneously injecting a single dose of a generic IMD formulation, at the recommended dosage of 3.0 mg/kg. The five groups of cattle were slaughtered respectively at 96, 160, 198, 213, and 228 days after IMD administration. Samples from the liver, kidney, muscle, fat, and injection site were collected from each animal. After subtilis proteinase was used to digest the tissue, the content of IMD in the samples was analyzed by UPLC-MS/MS method. In conclusion, the method validation results showed that the method meets the criteria, and the longest withdrawal time of 224 days for the liver can be selected as the conclusive withdrawal time to guarantee consumer safety. Porphyrin compounds are widely distributed in various natural products and biological systems. In this study, effects of porphyrin-related compounds including zinc protoporphyrin (ZnPP), protoporphyrin IX (PPIX), cyanocobalamin (CBL), hemin, and zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPC) were analyzed on color response of 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) tetrazolium-based assay, a commonly-used method for analyzing cell viability. Color responses of MTT formazan formed in cells treated with ZnPP, PPIX, or ZnPC were significantly reduced even at submicromolar concentrations without affecting cell viability, whereas hemin and CBL did not. ZnPP, PPIX, and ZnPC rapidly induced degradation of MTT formazan already-produced by cells when exposed to light, but not under a dark condition. Photosensitizing properties of the three compounds were also verified through extensive generation of reactive oxygen species under light. The porphyrins did not affect the stability of water-soluble formazans including XTT, WST-1, WST-8, and MTS formazans. Several factors including different light sources and antioxidants modulated the degradation process of MTT formazan by the porphyrins. The results suggest that certain porphyrin compounds could cause a severe artifact in the MTT assay through rapid degradation of formazan dye due to their photosensitizing property, which needs to be considered carefully in the related assays. Over-reliance on and intensive use of insecticides are prone to leading to the rapid evolution of insecticide resistance, urging rational insecticide application. One effective way of rational insecticide application is to apply insecticides of different modes of action in combination or supplemented with adjuvants. In this study, we assessed the efficacies of two individual insecticides, emamectin benzoate (EB) and chlorantraniliprole (CT), and their mixture, supplemented with and without the oil adjuvant Jijian® to control FAW in laboratory bioassays and a field trial. Both EB and CT showed high toxicities to FAW. The EB × CT mixture at a mass ratio of 9:1 yielded a remarkable synergistic effect, with the co-toxicity coefficient (CTC) being 239.38 and the median lethal concentration (LC50) being 0.177 mg/L. In leaf-spray bioassays, the addition of the adjuvant reduced the LC50 values of both the individual insecticides and the EB × CT mixture by more than 59%, significantly improving the efficacies. The field trial confirmed the synergistic effects of the adjuvant, which reduced the amount of EB × CT mixture by 80%. Intramuscular fat (IMF) content is vital for pork quality, serving an important role in economic performance in pig industry. Non-coding RNAs, with mRNAs, are involved in IMF deposition; however, their functions and regulatory mechanisms in porcine IMF remain elusive. This study assessed the whole transcriptome expression profiles of the Longissimus dorsi muscle of pigs with high (H) and low (L) IMF content to identify genes implicated in porcine IMF adipogenesis and their regulatory functions. Hundreds of differentially expressed RNAs were found to be involved in fatty acid metabolic processes, lipid metabolism, and fat cell differentiation. Furthermore, combing co-differential expression analyses, we constructed competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNA) regulatory networks, showing crosstalk among 30 lncRNAs and 61 mRNAs through 20 miRNAs, five circRNAs and 11 mRNAs through four miRNAs, and potential IMF deposition-related ceRNA subnetworks. Functional lncRNAs and circRNAs (such as MSTRG.12440.1, ENSSSCT00000066779, novel_circ_011355, novel_circ_011355) were found to act as ceRNAs of important lipid metabolism-related mRNAs (LEP, IP6K1, FFAR4, CEBPA, etc.) by sponging functional miRNAs (such as ssc-miR-196a, ssc-miR-200b, ssc-miR10391, miR486-y). The extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) ensemble learning algorithm excels in solving complex nonlinear relational problems. In order to accurately predict the surface subsidence caused by mining, this work introduces the genetic algorithm (GA) and XGBoost integrated algorithm model for mining subsidence prediction and uses the Python language to develop the GA-XGBoost combined model. The hyperparameter vector of XGBoost is optimized by a genetic algorithm to improve the prediction accuracy and reliability of the XGBoost model. Using some domestic mining subsidence data sets to conduct a model prediction evaluation, the results show that the R2 (coefficient of determination) of the prediction results of the GA-XGBoost model is 0.941, the RMSE (root mean square error) is 0.369, and the MAE (mean absolute error) is 0.308. Then, compared with classic ensemble learning models such as XGBoost, random deep forest, and gradient boost, the GA-XGBoost model has higher prediction accuracy and performance than a single machine learning model. Isolating a large quantity of high-quality human islets is a prerequisite for diabetes research. Human islets are typically isolated from the pancreases of brain-dead donors, making research difficult due to low availability. Pancreas tissue discarded after surgical resection may be a good alternative source of islet cells. To test this hypothesis, we isolated islets from discarded surgical specimens and evaluated the islet yield and quality as well as islet cell preparations. Eighty-two segmental pancreases were processed using the Ricordi automated method, and islet yield and quality were investigated. The mean age of patients was 54.6, and the cohort included 32 diabetes patients. After purification, partially resected pancreases yielded an average of 59,593 ± 56,651 islet equivalents (IEQs) and 2546 IEQ/g of digested pancreas, with 71.5 ± 21% purity. Multivariate analysis revealed that diabetes (p = 0.0046) and the lobe used (p = 0.0156) significantly altered islet yield. Islets transplanted into diabetic mice displayed good viability and in vitro glucose responses, DNA/RNA quality, mitochondrial function, and glucose control, even though these results were dependent on islet quality. Isolated cells also maintained high viability and function even after cryopreservation. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a medical condition characterized by abdominal obesity, insulin resistance, high blood pressure, and hyperlipidemia. An increase in the incidence of MetS provokes an escalation in health care costs and a downturn in quality of life. However, there is currently no cure for MetS, and the absence of immediate treatment for MetS has prompted the development of novel therapies. In accordance with recent studies, the brown seaweed Laminaria japonica (LJP) has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and so forth. LJP contains bioactive compounds used as food globally, and it has been used as a medicine in East Asian countries. We conducted a systematic review to examine whether LJP could potentially be a useful therapeutic drug for MetS. The following databases were searched from initiation to September 2021: PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials Library. Clinical trials and in vivo studies evaluating the effects of LJP on MetS were included. LJP reduces the oxidative stress-related lipid mechanisms, inflammatory cytokines and macrophage-related chemokines, muscle cell proliferation, and migration. Bioactive-glucosidase inhibitors reduce diabetic complications, a therapeutic target in obesity and type 2 diabetes. In obesity, LJP increases AMP-activated protein kinase and decreases acetyl-CoA carboxylase. Based on our findings, we suggest that LJP could treat MetS, as it has pharmacological effects on MetS. Hispolon is a potent anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antidiabetic agent isolated from Phellinus linteus, an oriental medicinal mushroom. However, the immunomodulatory mechanisms by which hispolon affects macrophages and lymphocytes remain poorly characterized. We investigated the immunomodulatory effects of hispolon on oxidative stress, inflammatory responses, and lymphocyte proliferation using lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-treated RAW264.7 macrophages or mitogen/alloantigen-treated mouse splenocytes. Hispolon inhibited LPS-induced reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (ROS/RNS) generation and decreased total sulfhydryl (SH) levels in a cell-free system and RAW264.7 cells. Hispolon exerted significant anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting production of the proinflammatory cytokines interleukin 6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) and signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) in LPS-treated RAW264.7 cells. Hispolon also modulated NF-κB and STAT3 activation by suppressing the NF-κB p65 interaction with phospho-IκBα and the STAT3 interaction with JAK1, as determined via coimmunoprecipitation analysis. Additionally, hispolon significantly decreased lymphocyte proliferation, T cell responses and T helper type 1 (Th1)/type 2 (Th2) cytokines production in mitogen/alloantigen-treated splenocytes. We conclude that hispolon exerts immunomodulatory effects on LPS-treated macrophages or mitogen/alloantigen-treated splenocytes through antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiproliferative activities. Extracts of phytocannabinoids from Cannabis sativa have been studied for therapeutic purposes. Although nonpsychoactive CBD has been studied as a promising anticancer drug because it induces apoptosis in many cancer cells, it is also known to induce several physiological changes. In this study, we clarify the functional role it plays in the morphological characteristics of intracellular vesicle formation as well as apoptosis in A549 human lung cancer cells. CBD treatment shows growth inhibition at concentrations above 20 μM, but FACS analysis shows low efficacy in terms of cell death. Microscopic observations suggest that multiple vesicles were detected in the cytoplasmic region of CBD-treated A549 cells. CBD treatment upregulates apoptosis-related proteins, such as p53, PARP, RIP1, RIP3, Atg12, and Beclin, indicating that CBD regulates several types of cell death. CBD treatment also induced E-cadherin, PPARγ, clathrin, β-adaptin, and Tsg101, also known to be cellular-differentiation inducers or vesicle-formation components. Treatment combining CBD with GW9662, a PPARγ inhibitor, reduced CBD-induced cytoplasmic vesicle formation. This indicates that PPARγ regulates the vesicle-formation mechanism. However, CBD-treated E-cad KO clones did not show this regulatory mechanism. Dementia is a disease in which memory, thought, and behavior-related disorders progress gradually due to brain damage caused by injury or disease. It is mainly caused by Alzheimer's disease or vascular dementia and several other risk factors, including genetic factors. It is difficult to treat as its incidence continues to increase worldwide. Many studies have been performed concerning the treatment of this condition. Rho-associated kinase (ROCK) and phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) are attracting attention as pharmacological treatments to improve the symptoms. This review discusses how ROCK and PDE-5 affect Alzheimer's disease, vascular restructuring, and exacerbation of neuroinflammation, and how their inhibition helps improve cognitive function. In addition, the results of the animal behavior analysis experiments utilizing the Morris water maze were compared through meta-analysis to analyze the effects of ROCK inhibitors and PDE-5 inhibitors on cognitive function. According to the selection criteria, 997 publications on ROCK and 1772 publications on PDE-5 were screened, and conclusions were drawn through meta-analysis. Cigarette smoke (CS) is a risk factor that can induce airway enlargement, airway obstruction, and airway mucus hypersecretion. Although studies have shown that Korean black ginseng extract (BGE) has potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities, the CS-induced inflammatory responses and molecular mechanisms are yet to be examined. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of BGE on the airway inflammatory response and its molecular mechanisms, using CS/lipopolysaccharides (LPS)-exposed animals and PMA-stimulated human airway epithelial NCI-H292 cells. The results show that BGE inhibited the recruitment of immune cells and the release of inflammatory mediators, such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interleukin (IL)-6, monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP)-1, elastase, and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the airways of CS/LPS-exposed animals. BGE inhibited mucus secretion and the expression of Mucin 5AC (MUC5AC). Furthermore, BGE exhibited an anti-inflammatory effect by downregulating a signaling pathway mediated by transforming growth factor-β-activated kinase (TAK) 1, an important protein that accelerates inflammation by cigarette smoke (CS). Overall, the findings show that BGE inhibits lung inflammation and mucus secretion by decreasing the activation of TAK1 both in human epithelial cells and in CS/LPS-exposed animals, and could be a potential adjuvant in the treatment and prevention of airway inflammatory diseases caused by airway irritants such as CS. Intrauterine infection is one of the most frequent causes of miscarriage. CpG oligodeoxynucleotide (CpG ODN) can mimic intrauterine infection. CpG ODN-induced embryoresorption was observed consistently in the NK-cell deficient non-obese diabetic (NOD) mice but not in the wild-type (WT) mice. To elucidate the molecular mechanisms of differential pregnancy outcomes, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the placenta and decidua basalis was revealed by RNA-Seq with CpG ODN or control ODN treatment. Common DEGs in the WT and NOD mice were enriched in antimicrobial/antibacterial humoral responses that may be activated as a primary response to bacterial infection. The susceptibility to CpG ODN-induced embryo-resorption in the NOD mice might mainly be attributed to M1 macrophage polarization and the immunodeficient status, such as the down-regulation in antigen processing and presentation, allograft rejection, and natural killer cell mediated cytotoxicity. In contrast, the WT mice with normal immune systems could activate multiple immune responses and be resistant to CpG ODN-induced embryo-resorption, such as M2 macrophage differentiation and activation regulated by complement component C1q and peroxisome proliferation-activated receptor (PPAR) signaling pathways. Collectively, this study suggests that the immunodeficient status of NOD mice and the macrophage polarization regulated by C1q and PPAR signaling might be the basis for differential pregnancy outcomes between the NOD and WT mice. The leaves and stems of the plant Rubus coreanus Miquel (RCMLS) are rich in vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals which have antioxidant, anti-hemolytic, anti-inflammatory, anti-fatigue and anti-cancer effects. However, RCMLS is not included in the Korean Food Standards Codex due to the lack of safety assurance concerning RCMLS. We evaluated single and repeated oral dose toxicity of RCMLS in Sprague-Dawley rats. RCMLS did not induce any significant toxicological changes in both male and female rats at a single doses of 2500 mg/kg/day. Repeated oral dose toxicity studies showed no adverse effects in clinical signs, body weight, food consumption, ophthalmic examination, urinalysis, hematology, serum biochemistry, necropsy findings, organ weight, and histopathology at doses of 625, 1250, and 2500 mg/kg/day. The LD50 and LOAEL of RCMLS might be over 2500 mg/kg body weight/day and no target organs were identified. Therefore, this study revealed that single and repeated oral doses of RCMLS are safe. In this study, we aimed to investigate the bone regeneration efficiency of two-layer porcine-derived bone scaffolds composed of cancellous and cortical bones in a rabbit calvarial defect model. Four circular calvaria defects were formed on cranium of rabbit and were filled with block bone scaffolds of each group: cortical bone block (Cortical group), cancellous bone block (Cancellous group), and two-layer bone block (2layer group). After 8 weeks, new bones were primarily observed in cancellous parts of the Cancellous and 2layer groups, while the Cortical group exhibited few new bones. In the results of new bone volume and area analyses, the Cancellous group showed the highest value, followed by the 2layer group, and were significantly higher than the Cortical group. Within the limitations of this study, the cancellous and two-layer porcine-derived bone scaffolds showed satisfactory bone regeneration efficiency; further studies on regulating the ratio of cortical and cancellous bones in two-layer bones are needed. Due to the widespread use of heavy machinery, improper soil tillage practices, and insufficient soil organic materials input, soil compaction has become a major issue affecting soil function in modern agriculture and the sustainability of the environment. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the responses of soil mechanical parameters to soil water content and soil organic matter content (SOM), and to investigate the physical properties of nine disturbed soils in a black soil region in Northeast China. The soil samples were capillary saturated and subjected to 6, 10, 100, 600, and 800 kPa soil water suction (SWS), and pre-compression stress (σp), compression index (Cc), and decompression index (Dc) were measured. SWS and SOM, and their interaction, significantly influenced the mechanical parameters. σp increased with an increase in SWS until 600 kPa, while Dc exhibited an opposite trend with an increase in SWS. Cc had a peak value at SWS of 100 kPa. All mechanical parameter values were higher under high SOM than under low SOM. σp, Cc, and Dc were influenced variably by different soil physicochemical factors. Structural equation modeling results revealed that soil mechanical parameters were directly and indirectly influenced by soil texture and mean weight diameter of aggregates, in addition to SOM and SWS. According to the results of the present study, based on soil mechanical and physical properties, increasing SOM and ensuring suitable soil water content during tillage could be applied as management strategies to minimize further soil compaction and improve soil resilience, and thus promote the sustainable development of agriculture in Northeast China. Although pancreatic islet transplantation is a potentially curative treatment for insulin-dependent diabetes, a shortage of donor sources, low differentiation capacity, and transplantation efficacy are major hurdles to overcome before becoming a standard therapy. Stem cell-derived insulin-producing cells (IPCs) are a potential approach to overcoming these limitations. To improve the differentiation capacity of the IPCs, cell cluster formation is crucial to mimic the 3D structure of the islet. This study developed a biodegradable polycaprolactone (PCL) electrospun nanofibrous (NF) microwell-arrayed membrane permeable to soluble factors. Based on the numerical analysis and experimental diffusion test, the NF microwell could provide sufficient nutrients, unlike an impermeable PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane) microwell. The IPC clusters in the NF microwells showed higher gene expression of insulin and PDX1 and insulin secretion than the PDMS microwells. The IPC clusters in the NF microwell-arrayed membrane could be directly transplanted. Transplanted IPC clusters in the microwells survived well and expressed PDX1 and insulin. Additionally, human c-peptide was identified in the blood plasma at two months after transplantation of the membranes. Proper medication management is crucial in metastatic colorectal cancer because of its substantially low survival rate. There has been advancing evidence on the efficacy of the two most prescribed targeted agents (bevacizumab and cetuximab); however, comprehensive analyses on their safety are limited. This study aims to comprehensively assess the clinical safety of first-line bevacizumab and cetuximab-based chemotherapy in unresectable RAS wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer patients and to provide guidance on the selection of appropriate targeted therapeutic agents. Keyword searches of MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, and ClinicalKey were conducted per PRISMA guidelines. We performed pooled analysis on safety outcomes from six studies which administered FOLFOX (5-fluorouracil, leucovorin, and oxaliplatin) or FOLFIRI (5-fluorouracil, leucovorin, irinotecan) as backbone chemotherapy. Thirty different adverse events from six categories were compared. First-line bevacizumab-based chemotherapy substantially lowered the risks of adverse events related to the dermatological (RR 0.24, 95% CI: 0.11–0.53, p < 0.00001) and renal systems (RR 0.57, 95% CI: 0.37–0.86, p = 0.007), while significantly increasing the incidence of cardiovascular adverse events (RR 4.65, 95% CI: 1.83–11.78, p = 0.001). Thus, first-line cetuximab-based chemotherapy increases patient susceptibility to dermatological and renal adverse events, especially with rash and electrolyte disorders, whereas bevacizumab-based chemotherapy increases cardiovascular risks such as hypertension and arrhythmia. The past two decades have seen the emergence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) infections that are characterized as extremely contagious, with a high fatality rate in chickens, and humans; this has sparked considerable concerns for global health. Generally, the new variant of the HPAI virus crossed into various countries through wild bird migration, and persisted in the local environment through the interactions between wild and farmed birds. Nevertheless, no studies have found informative cases associated with connecting local persistence and long-range dispersal. During the 2016–2017 HPAI H5N6 epidemic in South Korea, we observed several waterfowls with avian influenza infection under telemetric monitoring. Based on the telemetry records and surveillance data, we conducted a case study to test hypotheses related to the transmission pathway between wild birds and poultry. One sedentary wildfowl naturally infected with HPAI H5N6, which overlapped with the home range of one migratory bird with H5-specific antibody-positive, showed itself to be phylogenetically close to the isolates from a chicken farm located within its habitat. Our study is the first observational study that provides scientific evidence supporting the hypothesis that the HPAI spillover into poultry farms is caused by local persistence in sedentary birds, in addition to its long-range dispersal by sympatric migratory birds. Juvenile hormone (JH) plays a critical role in many physiological activities of Arthropoda. Juvenile hormone acid methyltransferase (JHAMT) is involved in the last steps of JH biosynthesis as an important rate-limiting enzyme. In recent studies, an increasing number of JHAMTs were identified in arthropods, but no JHAMT was reported in spiders. Herein, eight JHAMTs were identified in the pond wolf spider, Pardosa pseudoannulata, all containing the well conserved S-adenosyl-L-methionine binding motif. JHAMT-1 and the other seven JHAMTs were located at chromosome 13 and chromosome 1, respectively. Multiple alignment and phylogenetic analysis showed that JHAMT-1 was grouped together with insect JHAMTs independently and shared high similarities with insect JHAMTs compared to the other seven JHAMTs. In addition, JHAMT-1, JHAMT-2, and JHAMT-3 were highly expressed in the abdomen of spiderlings and could respond to the stimulation of exogenous farnesoic acid. Meanwhile, knockdown of these three JHAMTs caused the overweight and accelerated molting of spiderlings. These results demonstrated the cooperation of multi-JHAMTs in spider development and provided a new evolutionary perspective of the expansion of JHAMT in Arachnida. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

During the 2020–2021 winter season, an outbreak of clade 2.3.4.4b H5N8 high pathogenicity avian influenza (HPAI) virus occurred in South Korea. Here, we evaluated the pathogenicity and transmissibility of A/mandarin duck/Korea/H242/2020 (H5N8) (H242/20(H5N8)) first isolated from this outbreak in specific pathogen-free (SPF) chickens and commercial ducks in comparison with those of A/duck/Korea/HD1/2017(H5N6) (HD1/17(H5N6)) from a previous HPAI outbreak in 2017–2018. In chickens, the 50% chicken lethal dose and mean death time of H242/20(H5N8) group were 104.5 EID50 and 4.3 days, respectively, which indicate less virulent than those of HD1/17(H5N6) (103.6 EID50 and 2.2 days). Whereas, chickens inoculated with H242/20(H5N8) survived longer and had a higher titer of viral shedding than those inoculated with HD1/17(H5N6), which may increase the risk of viral contamination on farms. All ducks infected with either HPAI virus survived without clinical symptoms. In addition, they exhibited a longer virus shedding period and a higher transmission rate, indicating that ducks may play an important role as a silent carrier of both HPAI viruses. This study was conducted to estimate the genetic parameters of different feeding pattern traits, including average daily feed intake (ADFI), average occupation time per day (AOTD), average occupation time per visit (AOTV), average daily feeding rate (ADFR), average feeding rate per feeding visit (AFRV), average feed intake per feeding visit (AFIV), and average number of visits per day (ANVD), and their genetic relationship to production traits, such as on-test average daily gain (ADG), backfat thickness (BFT), loin muscle area (LMA), lean percentage (LP), and feed efficiency traits, such as feed conversion ratio (FCR) and five measures of residual feed intake (RFI1 to RFI5), in Duroc pigs (DD). The non-heritable common spatial pen effect was also estimated in all studied traits. The feeding pattern traits used in this study were derived from filtered feeding visits of 602 DD pigs. Using three animal models and the REML method, the genetic parameters revealed low to moderate heritability for ADFI (0.19 to 0.32) and AFIV (0.18 to 0.33), moderate heritability for ANVD (0.28 to 0.35) and AOTV (0.21 to 0.31), and high heritability for AOTD (0.73), ADFR (0.62 to 0.64), and AFRV (0.59 to 0.63). The addition of a common spatial pen effect in models 2 and 3 had a substantial impact, ranging from 8% to 23%, on the total variability of most feeding pattern traits, with the exception of AOTD, which only had a percentage variance of 0.30% due to the pen effect. The genetic and phenotypic correlation revealed that ADFI had consistent moderate to high genetic and phenotypic correlation with production and feed efficiency (FE) traits. However, selection against ADFI would negatively affect on-test ADG. Interestingly, the AOTD had no genetic correlation with ADG (0.04), low to moderate positive genetic correlation with FCR (0.27) and all RFI measures (0.24 to 0.33), and moderate negative correlation with LP (−0.39), indicating that selection for DD pigs with lower AOTD would not influence on-test ADG but may increase LP and improve feed efficiency by lowering FCR and all RFI measures. However, the corresponding phenotypic correlation of AOTD with production and feed efficiency traits was mostly weak, which can be attributed to the low residual or environmental correlation between these correlated traits. At the genetic level, the feeding pattern traits showed potential in improving feed efficiency and production traits. However, further studies are needed to evaluate their impact at phenotypic level. It is of great theoretical and practical significance to achieve high-quality development that promotes the transformation of digestion, absorption, and re-innovation to an independent innovation model, actively participating in the restructuring of the industrial chain, and enhancing the status of the Yangtze River Delta in the global innovation chain. This study constructs a tripartite evolutionary game model of collaborative innovation led by the government, participated by upstream enterprises and downstream enterprises. Moreover, this article analyzes the strategic choices of the tripartite entities in the process of collaborative innovation, and the simulation analyzes the influencing factors of the government, upstream enterprises, and downstream enterprises' collaborative innovation strategy selection. The results indicate that the government, upstream enterprises, and downstream enterprises have different degrees of influence on each other's willingness to participate. Residual feed intake (RFI) gained attention as a potential alternative to the feed conversion ratio (FCR). Thus, this study aimed to estimate genetic parameters for different feed efficiency (FE) traits (FCR, RFI1 to RFI5) and their genetic correlation to on-test daily weight gain (ADG), backfat (BFT), loin muscle area (LMA), lean percentage (LP), and total feed intake (FI) for 603 Male Duroc (DD), 295 Landrace (LL), and 341 Yorkshire (YY). The common spatial pen effect was also estimated in these traits. Five RFI measures were estimated by regressing daily feed intake on initial testing age (ITA), initial testing weight (IBW), and ADG for RFI1; other models were the same as RFI1 except for additional BFT for RFI2; LMA for RFI3; BFT and LMA for RFI4; BFT, LMA, and average metabolic body weight (AMBW) instead of IBW for RFI5. Genetic parameters estimated using two animal models and the REML method showed moderate heritability for FCR in all breeds (0.22 and 0.28 for DD, 0.31 and 0.39 for LL, 0.17 and 0.22 for YY), low heritability for the majority of RFI measures in DD (0.15 to 0.23) and YY (0.14 to 0.20) and moderate heritability for all RFI measures in LL (0.31 to 0.34). Pen variance explained 7% to 22% for FE and 0% to 9% for production traits' phenotypic variance. The genetic correlation revealed that selection against less complex RFI1 in DD and LL and RFI2 in YY would bring the most advantageous reduction to FI (0.71 for DD, 0.49 for LL, 0.43 YY) without affecting ADG in all breeds (0.06 for DD, −0.11 for LL, 0.05 for YY), decrease in BFT, and increase in LP in DD (0.51 in BFT, −0.77 in LP) and LL (0.45 in BFT, −0.83 in LP). Therefore, inclusion of these breed-specific RFI measures in the future selection criteria would help improve feed efficiency in the swine industry. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
