Urban regeneration is an important strategic choice in promoting urban development globally. Existing research on urban regeneration mainly focuses on the community's economic benefits. However, less research concentrates on how community participation contributes to the sustainable development of communities. The aim of this study is to explore the community regeneration approach in the context of urban regeneration in a typical village community in China. This study finds that participatory planning, which is mainly characterized by public participation, can be an effective way of communication and cooperation. The collaborative workshops provide a participatory platform for stakeholders and promote sustainable community development. Therefore, traditional planning approaches may need to be changed. The contribution of this article is to develop a collaborative planning approach for sustainable community development, which can serve as a reference for community governance in China and other developing countries. Population aging has become a notable and enduring demographic phenomenon worldwide. Older adults' walking behavior is determined by many factors, such as socioeconomic attributes and the built environment. Although a handful of recent studies have examined the influence of street greenery (a built environment variable readily estimated by big data) on older adults' walking behavior, they have not focused on the spatial heterogeneity in the influence. To this end, this study extracts the socioeconomic and walking behavior data from the Travel Characteristic Survey 2011 of Hong Kong and estimates street greenery (the green view index) based on Google Street View imagery. It then develops global models (linear regression and Box–Cox transformed models) and local models (geographically weighted regression models) to scrutinize the average (global) and location-specific (local) relationships, respectively, between street greenery and older adults' walking time. Notably, green view indices in three neighborhoods with different sizes are estimated for robustness checks. The results show that (1) street greenery has consistent and significant effects on walking time; (2) the influence of street greenery varies across space—specifically, it is greater in the suburban area; and (3) the performance of different green view indices is highly consistent. Precise control of target molecule release time, site, and dosage remains a challenge in controlled release systems. We employed a photoresponsive molecule release system via light-triggered charge reversal nanoparticles to achieve a triggered, stepwise, and precise controlled release platform. This release system was based on photocleavage-bridged polysilsesquioxane nanoparticles which acted as nanocarriers of doxorubicin loaded on the surface via electrostatic interaction. The nanoparticles could reverse into positive charges triggered by 254 nm light irradiation due to the photocleavage of the o-nitrobenzyl bridged segment. The charge reversal property of the nanoparticles could release loaded molecules. Doxorubicin was selected as a positively charged model molecule. The as-prepared nanoparticles with an average size of 124 nm had an acceptable doxorubicin loading content up to 12.8%. The surface charge of the nanoparticles could rapidly reverse from negative (−28.20 mV) to positive (+18.9 mV) upon light irradiation for only 10 min. In vitro release experiments showed a cumulative release up to 96% with continuously enhancing irradiation intensity. By regulating irradiation parameters, precisely controlled drug release was carried out. The typical "stepped" profile could be accurately controlled in an on/off irradiation mode. This approach provides an ideal light-triggered molecule release system for location, timing, and dosage. Landscape ecological risk assessment (LERA) evaluates different types of potential environmental impacts and their cumulative effects, thereby providing policy insights for sustainable regional land-use and ecosystem management. In a departure from existing literature that heavily relies on low-resolution land-use data for LERA at provincial or municipal scales, this study applies high-resolution land-use data to a relatively small research area (county). In addition, this study modifies the evaluation units of LERA from equal-sized grids to watersheds and refines the ecological vulnerability weight on the basis of finer-resolution data. The main findings are summarized as follows: (1) In 2011–2013, nearly 866 ha of land use in Xiapu County changed; moreover, the construction land, which was mainly concentrated in Songgang Street and Xinan Town, increased the most (340 ha). (2) Landscape ecological risk (LER) was roughly maintained, and areas of high ecological risk were mainly concentrated along the coast. (3) The spatial distribution of LER maintained a relatively aggregated pattern, with no trend toward more aggregated or more dispersed change. Walking and cycling are not only frequently-used modes of transport but also popular physical activities. They are beneficial to traffic congestion mitigation, air pollution reduction, and public health promotion. Hence, examining and comparing the built environment correlates of the propensity of walking and cycling is of great interest to urban practitioners and decision-makers and has attracted extensive research attention. However, existing studies mainly look into the two modes separately or consider them as an integral (i.e., active travel), and few compare built environment correlates of their propensity in a single study, especially in the developing world context. Thus, this study, taking Xiamen, China, as a case, examines the built environment correlates of the propensity of walking and cycling simultaneously and compares the results wherever feasible. It found (1) built environment correlates of the propensity of walking and cycling differ with each other largely in direction and magnitude; (2) land use mix, intersection density, and bus stop density are positively associated with walking propensity, while the distance to the CBD (Central Business District) is a negative correlate; (3) as for cycling propensity, only distance to CBD is a positive correlate, and job density, intersection density, and bus stop density are all negative correlates. Urbanization promotes the development of human civilization but brings great challenges, such as air pollution, lack of water resources, and environmental damage, to the natural environment. Water conservation effectively alleviates the lack of water resources. Existing studies mostly focus on water conservation behavior in urban areas and overlook rural areas. This study takes rural residents in Chengdu as the research object and selects four villages to conduct empirical research and fill this research gap. A total of 165 valid questionnaires are collected after face-to-face interviews. First, descriptive analysis is used to analyze the current situation of rural residents' water conservation behavior. Second, exploratory factor analysis and the binary logistic regression model are used to explore the relationship between building characteristics, water conservation attitudes, and water conservation behavior. The results show that (1) the rural residents' water conservation attitude plays an important role in water conservation behavior; "environmental values" is the most significant factor, followed by "saving money and joint participation;" (2) rural building characteristics such as layout of the kitchen and shower facilities significantly affect the water conservation behavior of rural residents. Based on the analysis, several suggestions are made for building a new water-saving rural area in Chengdu, such as strengthening the publicity and education of water-saving behavior and subsidizing water-saving facilities. This research provides a theoretical basis for local government departments to formulate relevant policies and serves as a valuable reference for the protection of water resources in other rural areas. Understanding the relationship between tourism demand and retail property prices is of great significance to tourist destinations, especially shopping destinations. The increase in tourism demand may alter the implicit prices of certain retail property characteristics (e.g., age and accessibility to transit). This study examines how tourism demand (measured by tourist volume) affects retail property prices in the tourist precinct of a shopping destination, namely Hong Kong. The implementation of the policy Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) in 2003 in Hong Kong has substantially increased tourist shoppers from Mainland China, and it is used as a quasi-natural experiment of the increased tourist volume. Spatial and non-spatial hedonic pricing models are developed based on the ground-floor retail property transaction data of Causeway Bay, Hong Kong before and after the IVS (1993–2011). The findings of this study are as follows. (1) Accessibility to transit has a larger positive price effect after the implementation of the IVS. (2) The implicit price of accessibility to accommodation facilities is not significantly altered by the implementation of the IVS. (3) Age has a larger negative price effect after the implementation of the IVS. The first two outcomes are related to the economic concerns of tourist shoppers, while the last can be explained by their hometown experience. Finally, practical implications are discussed. Transit offers stop-to-stop services rather than door-to-door services. The trip from a transit hub to the final destination is often entitled as the "last-mile" trip. This study innovatively proposes a hybrid approach by combining the data mining technique and multiple attribute decision making to identify the optimal travel mode for last-mile, in which the data mining technique is applied in order to objectively determine the weights. Four last-mile travel modes, including walking, bike-sharing, community bus, and on-demand ride-sharing service, are ranked based upon three evaluation criteria: travel time, monetary cost, and environmental performance. The selection of last-mile trip modes in Chengdu, China, is taken as a typical case example, to demonstrate the application of the proposed approach. Results show that the optimal travel mode highly varies by the distance of the "last-mile" and that bike-sharing serves as the optimal travel mode if the last-mile distance is no more than 3 km, whilst the community bus becomes the optimal mode if the distance equals 4 and 5 km. It is expected that this study offers an evidence-based approach to help select the reasonable last-mile travel mode and provides insights into developing a sustainable urban transport system.
