To compare the physical and chemical changes in egg whites during storage, assisting in the evaluation of differences in egg freshness between various chicken breeds, we chose 240 blue-shelled eggs (Blue group) and 240 commercial brown-shelled eggs (Brown group) that 28-week-old hens had laid. In this study, all eggs were stored at 25 °C. The egg weight, egg components' weight and proportion, Haugh Unit value and the contents of S-ovalbumin, ovomucin and lysozyme in the thick albumen (KA) and thin albumen (NA) were measured at eight time points every 3 days until the 21st day of storage. The eggshell, yolk and KA proportions in the Brown group were significantly lower, whereas the NA proportion was significantly higher than that in the Blue group (p < 0.001). The Haugh Unit value and S-ovalbumin in the Brown group were significantly higher, whereas KA ovomucin and NA lysozyme were significantly lower than those in the Blue group (p < 0.001). There existed significant negative correlations between the KA and NA, irrespective of weight or proportion. The Haugh Unit value was significantly positively correlated with lysozyme and ovomucin, but significantly negatively correlated with S-ovalbumin. During storage, the KA weight (proportion), Haugh Unit value, lysozyme and ovomucin decreased, whereas the NA weight (proportion) and S-ovalbumin increased. At each time point, the NA lysozyme in the Brown group was lower than that in the Blue group (p < 0.05). After storage for 6 days, the KA ovomucin in the Brown group began to be lower than that in the Blue group (p < 0.05). The study showed that the weight (proportion) differences in egg components between blue-shelled eggs and commercial brown-shelled eggs are mainly due to the NA. The Haugh Unit value and albumin protein indexes of blue-shelled eggs were better than those of brown-shelled eggs, and showed mild changes during storage, indicating the better storage performance of blue-shelled eggs. At present, the demand for accurate indoor positioning at a low cost is increasing. Based on the architecture of networking passive radio frequency identification (RFID) systems, research into passive location algorithms is important for finding a location solution with ultra-low cost, easy implementation, and no required maintenance. In this paper, TDACC (time difference of arrival with conic curves) based on signal propagation time is proposed, which breaks down the positioning problem into solving the intersection of an ellipse and a hyperbola. The results indicate that this method has a positioning error of 0 m in the absence of signal interference. When the time delay fluctuates to 1 ns and 2 ns, the average errors of TDACC are 0.19 m and 0.33 m, respectively. Different from other time-based localization methods, the proposed method only requires two distribution nodes without time synchronization, which reduces the system cost. These results will help to promote the deeper semantic communication level fusion of passive RFID. Under stress conditions, luteinizing hormone (LH)-mediated ovulation is inhibited, resulting in insufficient oocyte production and excretion during follicular development. When the body is stressed, a large amount of corticosterone (CORT) is generated, which will lead to a disorder of the body's endocrine system and damage to the body. Our previous work showed that CORT can block follicular development in mice. Since LH acts through binding with the luteinizing hormone receptor (Lhcgr), the present study aimed to investigate whether and how corticosterone (CORT) influences Lhcgr expression in mouse ovarian granulosa cells (GCs). For this purpose, three-week-old ICR female mice were injected intraperitoneally with pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG). In addition, the treatment group was injected with CORT (1 mg/mouse) at intervals of 8 h and the control group was injected with the same volume of methyl sulfoxide (DMSO). GCs were collected at 24 h, 48 h, and 55 h after PMSG injection. For in vitro experiments, the mouse GCs obtained from healthy follicles were treated with CORT alone, or together with inhibitors against the glucocorticoid receptor (Nr3c1). The results showed that the CORT caused a downregulation of Lhcgr expression in GCs, which was accompanied by impaired cell viability. Moreover, the effect of the CORT was mediated by binding to its receptor (Nr3c1) in GCs. Further investigation revealed that Nr3c1 might regulate the transcription of Lhcgr through inhibiting the expression of Lhcgr transcription factors, including AP1 and Creb. Taken together, our findings suggested a possible mechanism of CORT-induced anovulation involving the inhibition of Lhcgr expression in GCs by the CORT–Nr3c1–AP1/Creb axis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this work, aiming to improve the flame retardancy performance of high impact polystyrene (HIPS), HIPS compounds were synthesized with the addition of intumescent flame retardant (IFR: mass ratio of APP and PER was 3:1) and diatoms into HIPS matrix by melt blending method. It was found the IFR/diatoms system exhibited high flame retardant efficiency and catalytic carbonization effect to HIPS matrix in the burning process. The LOI value of HIPS-2 compound with the addition of 28 wt% IFR and 2 wt% diatoms was increased to 29.0% and passed V-0 rating. The value of PHRR for HIPS-2 compound is about 460.58 kW/m2 compared with 937.22 kW/m2 of pure HIPS and the value of THR for HIPS-2 compound is about 32.9 MJ/m2 compared with 62.7 MJ/m2 of pure HIPS, suggesting that the addition of IFR/diatoms system can decrease the values of PHRR and THR, which shows the synergistic effect between IFR and diatoms on reducing heat release. The 21.9% reduction in Av-EHC and 41.4% reduction in TSP seen on introducing an IFR/diatoms system indicates effective smoke suppression, which potentially would significantly reduce the death rate in real fire accidents. The TG-IR results indicated that the IFR/diatoms flame retardant system functioned in the gas phase to suppress the flame. The SEM images showed the char residue produced was more compact and continuous, which suggests that the IFR/diatoms flame retardant system exhibits barrier and catalytic effects to block heat transferring and promote char forming. The tensile strength and impact strength of HIPS-2 compound were 22.95 MPa and 2.63 KJ/m2, respectively. In this work, a kind of aryl phosphate salt nucleating agent (APAl-12C) was synthesized, which was replaced in the hydroxyl group on the aluminum hydroxy bis [2,2′-methylene-bis(4,6-di-tert-butylphenyl) phosphate] (APAl-OH) by lauroyloxy, which could improve the dispersion between the nucleating agent and the iPP matrix and reduce the migration potential of the nucleating agent in the iPP matrix by increasing the molecular weight. The structure of the nucleating agent APAl-12C was analyzed by fourier infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and 1H NMR. The differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) results indicated that the addition of APAl-OH or APAl-12C alone was inferior to the commercial nucleating agent NA-21 (compounds of APAl-OH and Lithium laurate) in terms of the crystallization behavior, which may be due to the importance of metal Li in the crystallization property. Thus, the iPP/A12C-Li composites were prepared with APAl-12C, lithium laurate (lilaurate) and the iPP matrix. The crystallization behavior, morphology, optical and mechanical properties for the iPP/A12C-Li composites were systematically studied and compared with that of the iPP/NA-21 composite. Among the iPP/A12C-Li composites with the addition of 0.5 wt%, APAl-12C/Lilaurate had the fastest crystallization rate and reduced the haze value of the neat iPP from 36.03% to 9.89% without changing the clarity, which was better than that of the iPP/NA-21 composite. This was due to the weakening of the polarity of the APAl-12C after lauroyloxy substitution and better dispersion in the iPP matrix, resulting in a significant improvement in the optical properties. Various environmental stimuli, including oxidative stress, could lead to granulosa cell (GC) death through mitophagy. Recently, it was reported that melatonin (MEL) has a significant effect on GC survival during oxidative damage. Here, we found that MEL inhibited oxidative stress-induced mitophagy to promote GC survival. The loss of cell viability upon H2O2 exposure was significantly restored after MEL treatment. Concomitantly, MEL inhibited the activation of mitophagy during oxidative stress. Notably, blocking mitophagy repressed GC death caused by oxidative stress. However, MEL cannot further restore viability of cells treated with mitophagy inhibitor. Moreover, PTEN-induced putative kinase 1 (PINK1), a mitochondrial serine/threonine-protein kinase, was inhibited by MEL during oxidative stress. As a result, the E3 ligase Parkin failed to translocate to mitochondria, leading to impaired mitochondria clearance. Using RNAi to knock down PINK1 expression, we further verified the role of the MEL-PINK1-Parkin (MPP) pathway in maintaining GC survival by suppressing mitophagy. Our findings not only clarify the protective mechanisms of MEL against oxidative damage in GCs, but also extend the understanding about how circadian rhythms might influence follicles development in the ovary. These findings reveal a new mechanism of melatonin in defense against oxidative damage to GCs by repressing mitophagy, which may be a potential therapeutic target for anovulatory disorders. The hot deformation behavior of a nitrogen-bearing martensitic stainless steel was researched by the isothermal compression test in the temperature range of 950–1150 °C and strain rate range of 0.01–10 s−1 with a Gleeble-3800 thermal-mechanical simulating tester. A strain compensated sine-hyperbolic Arrhenius-type constitutive equation was developed to describe the relationship between true stress and deformation parameters such as temperature, strain rate and true strain. The hot deformation activation energy is calculated to be from 407 to 487 KJ mol−1. It is validated by the standard statistical parameters that the established constitutive equation can accurately predict the true stress. The processing maps at different true strains were constructed based on the dynamic material model (DMM) and the true stress data obtained from the hot compression tests. Two unstable regions which should be avoided during hot working were observed from the processing map. In addition, the optimum hot working parameters are located in the domain of 1000–1150 °C/0.1–1 s−1 with the peak power dissipation efficiency of 39.9%, in which complete dynamic recrystallization (DRX) occurs. Simple Summary: Myostatin (MSTN) is a transcriptional growth factor that inhibits the development and growth of skeletal muscle. The MSTN-deficient animals display an increase in skeletal muscle mass known as double-muscling. Therefore, MSTN becomes an important target for improving lean meat production in livestock husbandry. There are many local pig breeds in China, but because of the slow growth, poor feed conversion, and low lean meat percentage and other unsatisfactory qualities, pure local breeds are rarely used on commercial farms. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of MSTN single allele mutation on carcass composition in Meishan crossbred pigs and demonstrate a way to increase lean meat yield while maintaining prolificacy and good meat quality of local pig crossbreeds. This has significant implications for the widespread use and conservation of local pig breeds in China. The Meishan pig is a traditional Chinese native breed, known for its excellent reproduction performance that is widely used in commercial pig production through two-way or three-way crossbreeding systems. However, the lean meat yield of Meishan crossbred pigs is still very low and cannot meet the market demand. To evaluate the lean meat yield of Meishan crossbred pigs, six wild-type Meishan sows were artificially inseminated by using the MSTN+/− Duroc boar semen in this experiment. Some reproductive performance-related traits of Meishan sows were recorded to ensure that semen from MSTN knockout Duroc boar did not affect offspring production, including total births, live births, sex, and litter weight. In total, 73 piglets were obtained and 63 were alive. Male to female ratio was close to 1: 1. because of factors such as disease, only 43 pigs were utilized, including 28 MSTN mutant pigs (MSTN+/−) and 15 MSTN homozygous pigs (MSTN+/+). We compared the growth performance and carcass performance of these full or half-sib populations and found that there were no differences between MSTN+/− and MSTN+/+ genotypes for live animal measures including average daily gain (ADG), body dimensions, or ultrasonic measurement of fat thickness when pigs were harvested after 120 days of feeding. Conversely, the MSTN+/− pigs had higher dressing percentage and lean meat percentage, lower level of carcass fat, larger longissimus muscle area, less percentage of skin and skeleton, thinner average backfat thickness, and lower intramuscular fat (IMF) content than MSTN+/+ pigs. In conclusion, the production of MSTN+/− mutant progeny from Meishan females resulted in improved carcass composition, providing a feasible solution to improve the lean meat yield of Chinese local fat-type pig breeds. Simple Summary: Researchers have hitherto established hundreds of animal stress models. However, these models have some limitations due to the complexity in operation and large differences between individual animals. In particular, there are few stress models that are specifically applied in mammalian ovaries. In this study, using intraperitoneal injection of cortisol/corticosterone (CORT), we successfully established a stress model that acts on the ovarian function. Our data showed that CORT inhibits ovarian and follicular development and blocks ovulation. The establishment of this model might provide a living platform for studying ovarian stress in future research. The aim of this study is to establish an ovarian stress model, and to investigate the effects of stress on follicular development. Our data showed that continuous intraperitoneal injection of CORT successfully created a stressful environment in the ovary. To assess the effects of CORT on ovarian functions, 80 three-week-old ICR (Institute of Cancer Research) female mice were randomly divided into control group and treatment group. All mice were injected intraperitoneally with pregnant horse serum gonadotropin (PMSG). At the same time, the treatment group were injected with CORT (1 mg/mouse) at intervals of 8 h; while the control group was injected with same volume of methyl sulfoxide (DMSO). Blood, ovaries, or ovarian granulosa cell samples were collected at 24 h, 48 h, and 55 h after PMSG injection. The results showed that, compared with the control group, CORT-injected mice revealed a significant decrease in ovulation rates, ovarian weight, ovarian index, the number of secondary follicles and mature follicles, levels of estrogen and progesterone, and mRNA expression of steroid synthase-related genes. Collectively, our findings clearly demonstrated that CORT injection could represent an effective practice to simulate stresses that inhibit ovarian functions by reducing follicular development and ovulation. In this study, the evolution of the mechanical properties of Fe–30Mn–9Al–1C steel has been determined in tensile tests at strain rates of 10−4 to 102 s−1. The results show that the strain rate sensitivity becomes a negative value when the strain rate exceeds 100 s−1 and this abnormal evolution is attributed to the occurrence of dynamic strain aging. Due to the presence of intergranular κ-carbides, the fracture modes of steel include ductile fracture and intergranular fracture. The values of dislocation arrangement parameter M were obtained using a modified Williamson–Hall plot. It has been found that once the strain rate sensitivity becomes negative, the interaction of dislocations in the steel is weakened and the free movement of dislocation is enhanced. Titanium alloys are widely used in many fields because of their excellent comprehensive properties. However, its poor friction and wear properties limit its many potential applications. In general, the surface roughness of important parts manufactured by titanium alloy should meet certain requirements. As a low-cost and high-efficiency processing method, barrel finishing has been used for the surface finishing of titanium alloys. The main material removal mechanism of barrel finishing is micro-cutting/grinding, which is similar to the material wear mechanism under some conditions. In addition, titanium alloys are subjected to a low force in common surface finishing processes. Cryogenic treatment is a method that can improve the comprehensive properties of titanium alloys. Therefore, the friction and wear behavior of cryogenically treated Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy (CT Ti alloy) and non-cryogenically treated Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy (NT Ti alloy) at a low load and scratch speed was studied comparatively in this paper. The results show that the CT Ti alloy exhibits a lower friction coefficient and wear rate under both dry and wet wear conditions. Under wet conditions, the stabilized friction coefficient is lower than that under dry conditions. The stabilized friction coefficient of CT Ti alloy is 0.18 after reaching a stable wear stage under wet conditions. Under dry wear conditions, the NT Ti alloy mainly showed typical abrasive wear, heavy adhesion wear and oxidation wear characters. The wear mechanisms of CT Ti alloy are mainly abrasive wear, slight adhesion wear and oxidation wear. Under wet wear conditions, the wear mechanism of NT Ti alloy is abrasive wear and slight adhesion wear. After cryogenic treatment, the mechanism for CT Ti alloy is slight abrasive wear. The fabricated Mg–Al alloy consists of α-Mg phase and Mg–Mg17Al12 eutectic phase. The corrosion behavior of cast Mg–Al alloy in sulphuric acid (H2SO4) and acetic acid (HAc) aqueous solutions was investigated. The Mg–Al alloy shows general corrosion in H2SO4 solution, and the α-Mg dendrites revealed a slightly faster corrosion rate than that of the eutectics. In HAc solution, the alloy shows an obvious selective corrosion characteristic, with the α-Mg dendrites being corroded preferentially. The corrosion behavior of Mg-3Al-xGe (x = 1, 3, 5) alloy in as-cast and as-solid was investigated by virtue of microstructure, corrosion morphology observation, and electrochemical measurement. Among the as-cast alloys, the corrosion rate of Mg-3Al-1Ge with a discontinuous bar-morphology was the highest, which was 101.7 mm·a−1; the corrosion rate of Mg-3Al-3Ge with a continuous network distribution was the lowest, which was 23.1 mm·a−1; and the corrosion rate of Mg-3Al-5Ge of Ge-enriched phase with sporadic distribution was in-between, which was 63.9 mm·a−1. It is suggested that the morphology of the Mg2Ge phase changes with a change in Ge content, which affects the corrosion performance of the alloy. After solid solution treatment, the corrosion rate of the corresponding solid solution alloy increased—Mg-3Al-1Ge to 140.5 mm·a−1, Mg-3Al-3Ge to 52.9 mm·a−1, and Mg-3Al-5Ge to 87.3 mm·a−1, respectively. After investigation of the microstructure, it can be suggested that solid solution treatment dissolves the Mg17Al12 phase, which changes the phase composition of the alloy and also affects its microstructure, thus affecting its corrosion performance.
