With the advancement of industrial automation, vibrational energy generated by machinery during operation is often underutilized. Developing efficient devices for vibration energy harvesting is thus essential. Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) based on spring and cantilever beam structures show considerable potential for industrial vibration energy harvesting; however, traditional designs often fail to fully harness vibrational energy due to their structural limitations. This study proposes a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) based on a crank-rocker mechanism and a spring cantilever structure (CR-SC TENG), which combines a crank-rocker mechanism with a spring cantilever structure, designed for both energy harvesting and self-powered sensing. The CR-SC TENG incorporates a spring cantilever beam, a crank-rocker mechanism, and lever amplification principles, enabling it to respond sensitively to low-frequency, small-amplitude vibrations. Utilizing the crank-rocker and lever effects, this device significantly amplifies micro-amplitudes, enhancing energy capture efficiency and making it well suited for low-amplitude, complex industrial environments. Experimental results demonstrate that this design effectively amplifies micro-vibrations and markedly improves energy conversion efficiency within a frequency range of 1–35 Hz and an amplitude range of 1–3 mm. As a sensor, the CR-SC TENG's dual-generation units produce output signals that precisely reflect vibration frequencies, making it suitable for the intelligent monitoring of industrial equipment. When placed on an air compressor operating at 25 Hz, the first-generation unit achieved an output voltage of 150 V and a current of 8 μA, while the second-generation unit produced an output voltage of 60 V and a current of 5 μA. These findings suggest that the CR-SC TENG, leveraging spring cantilever beams, crank-rocker mechanisms, and lever amplification, has significant potential for micro-amplitude energy harvesting and could play a key role in smart manufacturing, intelligent factories, and the Internet of Things. This research aims to study the mechanical behavior of the materials most commonly used in crankshaft manufacturing by designing a four-piston crankshaft, analyzing the stresses and displacements resulting from the applied load, and determining vibration frequencies. Additionally, this study examines the thermal behavior of the crankshaft. For this purpose, a three-dimensional model of the crankshaft was designed using CATIA V5 R18 software, and finite element analysis was subsequently performed using ANSYS 2019 R1 software under static, dynamic, and thermal conditions with four different materials in various orientations. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed design, it was compared with a reference design in terms of stresses and displacements. This study also explores improvements in crankshaft geometry and shape. The results indicate that selecting the appropriate material for the working conditions and optimizing the geometry and shape enhance engine performance and reduce the crankshaft's weight by 20%. Saturated sand foundations are susceptible to liquefaction under dynamic loads. This can result in roadbed subsidence, flotation of underground structures, and other engineering failures. Compared with the traditional foundation reinforcement technology, enzyme-induced calcium carbonate precipitation technology (EICP) is a green environmental protection reinforcement technology. The EICP technology can use enzymes to induce calcium carbonate to cement soil particles and fill soil pores, thus effectively improving soil strength and inhibiting sand liquefaction damage. The study takes EICP-solidified standard sand as the research object and, through the dynamic triaxial test, analyzes the influence of different confining pressure (σ3) cementation times (CT), cyclic stress ratio (CSR), dry density (ρd), and vibration frequency (f) on dynamic strength characteristics. Then, a modified dynamic strength model of EICP-solidified standard sand was established. The results show that, under the same confining pressure, the required vibration number for failure decreases with the increase in dynamic strength, and the dynamic strength increases with the rise in dry density. At the same number of cyclic vibrations, the greater the confining pressure and cementation times, the greater the dynamic strength. When the cementation times are constant, the dynamic strength of EICP-solidified sand decreases with the increase in the vibration number. When cementation times are 6, the dynamic strength of the specimens with CSR of 0.35 is 25.9% and 32.4% higher than those with CSR of 0.25 and 0.30, respectively. The predicted results show that the model can predict the measured values well, which fully verifies the applicability of the model. Accurately determining the natural frequency of coal-containing geological structures is crucial for preventing mine dynamic disasters and utilizing vibration waves to break coal and enhance its permeability. Based on the modal theory of rock, vibration models of coal-containing geological structures, including layering and fractures are established. By analysis, the undamped vibration equation and its characteristic equation for both the layered coal system and the fractured coal system are derived. Subsequently, the Lanczos method is employed to solve the system's vibration modes using ABAQUS. The effects of the layering position, layering thickness, layering physical properties, crack width, and crack length on the natural frequency and vibration response of coal-containing geological structures are investigated. The results indicate that when a single influencing factor is altered, the displacement response distribution of the coal body vibration system with geological structures remains essentially the same, and these single influencing factors have a minimal impact on the vibration displacement of the coal-containing geological structure. The natural frequency of the system decreases exponentially as the distance between the layering and the geometric center of the coal system with geological structures increases. The presence of layering in the coal system with geological structures significantly reduces the system's natural frequency. The natural frequency of the coal system with geological structures increases in a power function manner as the layering elastic modulus increases. Conversely, the natural frequency decreases with an increase in crack length. When the change ranges of crack width and bedding thickness are the same, the natural frequency of the fractured coal body system exhibits more significant changes. The natural frequency of the coal system with geological structures initially decreases and then increases as bedding thickness and crack width increase. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted considerable attention as nanomechanical resonators because of their exceptional mechanical properties and nanoscale dimensions. In this study, a novel CNT-based probe is proposed as an efficient nanoforce sensing nanomaterial that detects external pressure. The CNT probe was designed to be fixed by clamping tunable outer CNTs. By using the mobile-supported outer CNT, the position of the partially clamped outer CNT can be controllably shifted, effectively tuning its resonant frequency. This study comprehensively investigates the modeling and vibration analysis of gigahertz frequencies with loaded CNTs used in sensing applications. The vibration frequency of a partially clamped CNT probe under axial loading was modeled using continuum mechanics, considering various parameters such as the clamping location, length, and boundary conditions. In addition, the interaction between external forces and CNT resonators was investigated to evaluate their sensitivity for force sensing. Featured Application: Sowing Rapeseed. The direct sowing of rapeseed requires shallow tillage for stubble removal, which can cause significant vibrations that impact the seed metering device, thereby affecting the quality of seeding. This study focuses on a double-row hole-wheel-type seed metering device on the 2BYG-220 type combined rapeseed planter. Initially, vibrations experienced by the seed drill during field operations were measured and analyzed, revealing that the vibration frequencies during field operations predominantly ranged between 0 and 25 Hz. Consequently, an eccentric wheel–return-spring-type vibration seed metering test rig was designed, manufactured, and set up. By swapping out the eccentric wheel on the test rig, the amplitude was mainly concentrated within 3 mm. The test results indicate that amplitude had a minimal impact on the performance of the double-row hole-wheel-type rapeseed seed metering device, whereas vibration frequency had a more significant effect. When the vibration frequency was between 0 and 10 Hz, the seed metering device maintained a stable output between 7.6 and 8.2 g/min, with minimal impact from vibrations: the coefficient of variation for seeding uniformity ranged between 35.81% and 44.58%, indicating stability and good uniformity. However, when the vibration frequency ranged from 10 to 24 Hz, the output of the seed metering device decreased rapidly and exhibited a linear relationship with frequency changes, with a determination coefficient (R2) of 0.92376. The coefficient of variation for seeding uniformity increased rapidly and also showed a linear relationship with frequency changes, with a determination coefficient (R2) of 0.87973. In this study, we sought to characterize the effect of water vibration frequency stress on crimson snapper (Lutjanus erythropterus) survival to determine an optimal transportation speed. To achieve this, we used a transport tank (25 cm × 17 cm × 16 cm) to simulate the transport process. After 8 h at five different vibration frequencies (D1 = 75 rpm, D2 = 105 rpm, D3 = 135 rpm, D4 = 165 rpm, and D5 = 195 rpm), the pH and dissolved oxygen (DO) levels in the tanks decreased; ammonia nitrogen levels (NH4-N) and temperature (T) increased with increasing density; and significant changes in oxidative stress biomarkers, digestive enzymes, and ATPase levels were observed in crimson snapper fry. The enzyme activity increased and reached the maximum value at 195 rpm. The experimental results suggested that during the actual transport, when using transport tanks, the length of the transport time was less than 8 h, and setting the vibration frequency for transportation at 135 rpm was more appropriate, that is, a speed of 50 km/h for transporting crimson snapper fry. The optimal process parameters of ultrasonic-assisted processing were studied to further improve the molding quality and mechanical properties of Ni60/WC-TiO2+La2O3 composite coating. A single-factor experiment was used to explore the influences of ultrasonic vibration frequencies on Ni60/WC-TiO2+La2O3 composite coating. The microstructure, elemental composition, phase composition, hardness, and wear resistance of the coating were studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), an X-ray diffractometer (XRD), an energy spectrometer, a microhardness meter, a friction and wear tester, and other equipment. Ultrasonic vibrations significantly improved the problems of pores in the coating, and the porosity was reduced from 0.13 to 0.014%. When the vibration frequency was 32 kHz in the experiment, the aspect ratio of the coating was optimized from 2.06 to 2.48, the dilution rate increased from 5.60 to 5.79%, the hardness increased from 960.25 to 988.45 HZ1.0, and the friction coefficient was reduced from 0.34 to 0.27. The marine and alluvial plains along the southeastern coast of China are widely distributed in sandy formations, including smaller sand lenses and interlayers. The interlayers of sand have a significant impact on the mechanical properties of soft clay. In this paper, a large number of undrained unidirectional and bidirectional cyclic loading tests for soft clay with sand interlayers were carried out by a dynamic triaxial test system. Test results show that, under unidirectional and bidirectional cyclic vibration, the area of the hysteresis loop decreases and the slope of the connecting line at both ends of the hysteresis loop increases with the increasing of frequency. For the same vibration frequency, the area of the bidirectional vibration hysteresis loop and the slope of the connecting line at both ends are smaller than that of the unidirectional cyclic vibration. Under the same dynamic stress ratio, cumulative axial deformation caused by unidirectional and bidirectional vibration increases with the increasing frequency. Under unidirectional vibration, dynamic elastic modulus decreases at first, and then increases with the increasing frequency. For the same frequency, dynamic elastic modulus of the sample increases with the increase in cycles. Due to the effect of radial cyclic stress, the curves of dynamic elastic modulus and damping ratio with frequency under bidirectional vibration are opposite to those under unidirectional vibration. The seismic vulnerability assessment of existing structures is a well-known challenging task, due to a combination of several aspects. The use of analytical or finite element (FE) numerical models can offer robust support in this analysis but necessitates the accurate calibration of geometrical and mechanical input, with related uncertainties. In this paper, attention is focused on the identification of dynamic parameters, based on modal numerical analysis, of a 50-year-old, reinforced concrete, elevated water tank (EWT) characterised by a reservoir with a truncated cone shape. The structure is located in a high seismic region of northern Italy and presently necessitates retrofit plans to preserve its functionality. Based on the limited available experimental evidence and technical drawings, major efforts are spent for the numerical prediction of fundamental vibration modes and frequencies of the structure, which represent a first key step for seismic analyses, under various water-filling levels. To this aim, four different FE numerical strategies able to include both structural features and possible fluid–structure interaction (FSI) effects are developed. By progressively increasing the computational cost (and expected the accuracy of the solutions), FE models based on added-mass (M0 model), spring-mass (M1-DM or M1-DS models), or acoustic (M2 model) strategies are taken into account and combined with increasing detailing in geometrical description of the structure. Results from parametric modal analyses are discussed for the case-study EWT, in terms of computational cost, possible numerical limitations, accuracy of predicted frequencies/modal shapes, sensitivity to water-filling levels and operational configurations, with the support of several pieces of experimental evidence and consolidated analytical formulations for fundamental frequency estimations. In particular environments, such as the Gobi Desert, the problems encountered in a project are complex, resulting in reduced stability of the anchoring system and multiple forms of failure. This paper takes the factors influencing the stability of sand anchors under vibration loads as the research background. Theoretical analysis and indoor model tests were used to study the load-bearing performance of sand anchors under vibration loads; in addition, a comparative analysis of this performance along with failure forms of sand anchor systems, various sand soil moisture contents, and vibration parameters was performed. The results of the study showed that as the water content becomes higher, the cohesive force of the sand decreases and produces a higher displacement in the water content, with most of the anchor solids becoming prone to fatigue failure. When the water content and vibration frequency remain stable and the vibration amplitude increases, the anchor rod is disturbed after the ultimate pullout bearing capacity forms a decreasing trend, with a decline rate of approximately 40%. By keeping the water content and vibration amplitude stable and changing the vibration frequency, the ultimate pullout capacity of the anchor does not change significantly, and the frequency reaches a certain level when it attains a compacting effect on the surrounding soil and thus has less influence on the anchor. The anchor pullout resistance bearing is most sensitive to the change in sand moisture content, more sensitive to the vibration amplitude, and less sensitive to the vibration frequency, but its correlation is not significant. Perilous rock instability on the soil slope brings a substantial threat to project operation and even people's lives. The buried depth of the perilous rock is a challenge to deal with and primarily determines its stability, and the indirect rapid identification of its buried depth is the key to its stability evaluation. The paper aims to find a new and quick method to measure the buried depth of perilous rock on the soil slope and to solve the hard-to-measure buried depth stability evaluation. When the damping ratio is less than one, and the deformation is linear elastic throughout the amplitude range, the potentially perilous rock vibration model may reduce to a multi-degree-of-freedom vibration one. By theoretical deduction, a quantitative relationship is established among the perilous rock mass, the basement response coefficient, the buried depth of the perilous rock, and the natural horizontal vibration frequency. In addition, the accuracy of this relationship is confirmed via numerous indoor experiments, showing that the horizontal vibration frequency of the perilous rock model in one dimension increases as the buried depth increases. Finally, based on the natural vibration frequency and guided by the limit balance model, a stability evaluation model of the perilous rock on the soil slope is constructed. Hence, the example shows that the method is feasible. The research findings are of vital significance for the stability evaluation of the perilous rock on the soil slope and give a novel approach and theoretical foundation for quick identification and monitoring. One of the best precursors for winter wheat is fallow. Its application aims to solve two important tasks: preserving and accumulating soil moisture and weed control. The authors of this paper have designed a new modular harrow for fallow tillage, which can work stably at a depth of 5–6 cm tillage while maintaining and even accumulating soil moisture. This article describes a method designed by the authors for a reasonable selection of the design parameters concerning the working devices mounted inside the new harrow, such as their length and working width, as well as the angles of vertical inclination (ε) and horizontal deviation (γ) of blades, depending on the accepted depth of the upper soil layer loosening. To reduce the soil tillage resistance of the harrowing unit resulting in a reduction in the tractor fuel consumption, the value of the inclination angle (ε) of its vertical blade should be chosen so that the corresponding change in the value of the deflection angle of the horizontal blade (γ) complies with the constrain of the product of tangents of these angles. Moreover, preference should be given to choosing the value of the angle ε with the subsequent determination of the angle γ value. It is demonstrated that proper use of the new type of harrow assures fuel savings and decreases carbon dioxide emissions even if fossil fuel alone is used. In this study, the vibration frequency of steel rod-type short suspenders simulated by three types of prestressed steel rebars with aspect ratios of 14, 20.8, and 37.8 was detected accurately and remotely by using Laser Doppler Vibrometer (LDV); then the tension force state of short suspenders was evaluated through the quadratic regression relationships between vibration frequency and tension force. The results showed that the vibration frequency of steel rod-type short suspenders increases with the increase in tension force, and there is a good correlation between vibration frequency and prestress. Furthermore, when the prestress applied is the same, the vibration frequency of short suspenders decreases with the increase of their aspect ratios, indicating aspect ratio plays a decisive role on the change of vibration frequency. The errors between the tension force obtained by experiment and tension string theoretical calculation for short suspenders are large, due to the nonrigid boundary condition. The establishment of quadratic regression relationships between vibration frequency and tension force effectively avoids the influence of various factors on the existing calculation model such as mass, stiffness, and constraint type, and makes the detection accuracy of tension force achieve 98%. Graphene is a type of two-dimensional material with special properties and complex mechanical behavior. In the process of growth or processing, graphene inevitably has various defects, which greatly influence the mechanical properties of graphene. In this paper, the mechanical properties of ideal monolayer graphene nanoribbons and monolayer graphene nanoribbons with vacancy defects were simulated using the molecular dynamics method. The effect of different defect concentrations and defect positions on the vibration frequency of nanoribbons was investigated, respectively. The results show that the vacancy defect decreases the vibration frequency of the graphene nanoribbon. The vacancy concentration and vacancy position have a certain effect on the vibration frequency of graphene nanoribbons. The vibration frequency not only decreases significantly with the increase of nanoribbon length but also with the increase of vacancy concentration. As the vacancy concentration is constant, the vacancy position has a certain effect on the vibration frequency of graphene nanoribbons. One of the important processes taking place during soil surface tillage is the variation of the soil temperature at different depths. The paper presents the results of research into the dynamics of soil temperature variation in terms of such parameters of the soil as its thermal diffusivity and temperature oscillation frequency. It has been established that the temperature oscillation amplitude decreases when the depth increases, following the logarithmic law. In this variation, the temperature difference between the 0–5 cm layer and the adjacent 5–10 cm layer has the greatest value. This circumstance is a favorable factor for the fallow tillage technology, where the soil is regularly cultivated to a depth of no more than 5 cm, in case of a moisture deficit. A decrease in the frequency of the soil temperature oscillations can result in the reduced level of its heating in different layers. In terms of qualitative changes, the reduction in soil thermal diffusivity results in the amplitude of the soil temperature oscillations being lowered and at the same time the maximum of these oscillations being shifted towards a delay. Focal vibration therapy can provide neurophysiological benefits. Unfortunately, standardized protocols are non-existent. Previous research presents a wide range of protocols with a wide range of effectiveness. This paper is part of a broader effort to identify effective, standardized protocols for focal vibration therapy. In this study, the authors evaluated the vibration characteristics (frequency and peak-to-peak intensity) of four commercially available focal vibration devices: (1) Vibracool (wearable), (2) Novafon (hand-held), (3) Myovolt 3-actuator (wearable), and (4) Myovolt 2-actuator (wearable). An accelerometer was used for the measurements. Measurements were made under the following two conditions: (a) when the devices were free, i.e., unconstrained vibration, and (b) when the devices were strapped to the human body, i.e., constrained vibration. In the free vibration condition, frequency ranged from 120 to 225 Hz and peak-to-peak amplitude ranged from 2.0 to 7.9 g's. When the devices were strapped to the body (constrained), vibration amplitude decreased by up to 65.7%. These results identify effective ranges of focal vibration frequency and amplitude. They illustrate the importance of identifying vibration environment, free or constrained, when quoting vibration characteristics. Finally, the inconsistency output of multi-actuator devices is discussed. These results will guide protocol development for focal vibration and potentially better focal vibration devices. Featured Application: This review summarized the focal muscle vibration devices, parameters, and protocols that have been used for stroke rehabilitation. The review discussed the application of wearable focal muscle vibration technology for sustainable stroke rehabilitation and suggested future research on the relationship between vibration frequency, amplitude, treatment protocol, and outcome measures for optimized and individualized intervention in stroke. In this review, we present a narrative synthesis of studies on the use of focal muscle vibration (FMV) in stroke rehabilitation with a focus on vibration device, parameters, and protocols. A search was conducted via PubMed, SCOPUS, PEDro, REHABDATA, and Web of Science using the keywords "stroke and focal vibration" or "focal muscle vibration". Inclusion and exclusion criteria to select the articles were determined. Twenty-two articles involving FMV and stroke were included in this review. Eight different vibration devices were used in the 19 articles that reported the vibration apparatuses. The vibration frequencies ranged from 30 Hz to 300 Hz with amplitudes ranging from 0.01 mm to 2 mm. The vibration treatment frequency ranged from a single treatment to 5 days/week. The session duration ranged from 14 s to 60 min/session with a duration of a single treatment to eight weeks. Twenty different muscles were targeted with 37 different outcome measures used to assess the effects of FMV. The clinical applications of FMV were not confirmed based on available evidence. More research is needed to improve the FMV technology, guide the selection of vibration parameters, optimize the vibration dosage, and develop standardized protocols for FMV therapy in patients with stroke. This article presents a methodology for the monitoring of tall structures based on the joint use of a terrestrial laser scanner (TLS), configured in line scanner mode, and a ground-based real aperture radar (GB-RAR) interferometer. The methodology provides both natural frequencies and oscillation amplitudes of tall structures. Acquisitions of the surface of the tall structure are performed by the TLS with a high sampling rate: each line scan provides an instantaneous longitudinal section. By interpolating the points of each line, oscillation profiles are estimated with a much better precision than each single point. The amplitude and frequency of the main oscillation mode of the whole structure are derived from the TLS profiles. GB-RAR measurements are used to measure the vibration frequencies of higher oscillation modes which are not caught by the TLS due its lower precision in the measurement of displacements. In contrast, the high spatial resolution of TLS measurements provides an accurate description of oscillation amplitude along the tower, which cannot be caught by the GB-RAR, due to its poorer spatial resolution. TLS and GB-RAR acquisitions are simultaneous. The comparison with the analytical solution for oscillation modes demonstrates that the proposed methodology can provide useful information for structural health monitoring (SHM). The methodology does not require the use of targets on the structure and it can be applied during its normal use, even in presence of dynamic loads (wind, traffic vibrations, etc.). A test was carried out on a wind tower where the synergistic use of TLS and GB-RAR made it possible to fully describe the spectral properties of the tower and at the same time measure the amplitude of the first oscillation mode along the tower with a high spatial resolution. Excessive growth of biomass causes eutrophication and other related water quality problems. For the past several decades, these problems have been managed based on the principle of limiting nutrient, which is to reduce the loading of essential nutrients--either nitrogen or phosphorus--through point and non-point waste source control. More recent research efforts indicated that eutrophication of a natural water body such as a lake or a reservoir can be controlled alternatively by altering its turbulent intensity. The success of this alternative approach depends on more knowledge on the intimate relationship between turbulent intensity and the bioproductivity of a water body. In this experimental study, an oscillating grid turbulence (OGT) reactor was constructed to evaluate the effect of turbulent pulsation strength in terms of vibration frequency on algae bioproductivity under adequate nutrient, light, and temperature conditions. Experimental results showed that moderate turbulent intensity with vibration frequency of 0.5 Hz or less increased algal growth; with a vibration frequency of 1.0 Hz, the observed peak chlorophyll a (Chl-a) concentration in the reactor was 0.112 mg/L. The experimental results also showed that strong turbulent intensity with vibration frequency of 1.5 Hz or more reduced algal growth; with vibration frequency of 1.5 Hz, the observed peak Chl-a concentration in the reactor was only 0.06 mg/L, which was even lower than the observed peak Chl-a concentration in the reactor with stationary water. In this study, the effect of water turbulence on algal bioproductivity was further verified with experimental data on the variations of other relevant water quality parameters in the OGT reactor including total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), pH, and dissolved oxygen (DO). Myoelectric prosthesis has become an important aid to disabled people. Although it can help people to recover to a nearly normal life, whether they can adapt to severe working conditions is a subject that is yet to be studied. Generally speaking, the working environment is dominated by vibration. This paper takes the gripping action as its research object, and focuses on the identification of grasping intentions under different vibration frequencies in different working conditions. In this way, the possibility of the disabled people who wear myoelectric prosthesis to work in various vibration environment is studied. In this paper, an experimental test platform capable of simulating 0–50 Hz vibration was established, and the Surface Electromyography (sEMG) signals of the human arm in the open and grasping states were obtained through the MP160 physiological record analysis system. Considering the reliability of human intention recognition and the rapidity of algorithm processing, six different time-domain features and the Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) classifier were selected as the sEMG signal feature extraction and recognition algorithms in this paper. When two kinds of features, Zero Crossing (ZC) and Root Mean Square (RMS), were used as input, the accuracy of LDA algorithm can reach 96.9%. When three features, RMS, Minimum Value (MIN), and Variance (VAR), were used as inputs, the accuracy of the LDA algorithm can reach 98.0%. When the six features were used as inputs, the accuracy of the LDA algorithm reached 98.4%. In the analysis of different vibration frequencies, it was found that when the vibration frequency reached 20 Hz, the average accuracy of the LDA algorithm in recognizing actions was low, while at 0 Hz, 40 Hz and 50 Hz, the average accuracy was relatively high. Mechanical/physical stimulations modulate tissue metabolism, and this process involves multiple cellular mechanisms, including the secretion of growth factors and the activation of mechano-physically sensitive kinases. Cells and tissue can be modulated through specific vibration-induced changes in cell activity, which depend on the vibration frequency and occur via differential gene expression. However, there are few reports about the effects of medium-magnitude (1.12 g) sonic vibration on the osteogenic differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells (HDPSCs). In this study, we investigated whether medium-magnitude (1.12 g) sonic vibration with a frequency of 30, 45, or 100 Hz could affect the osteogenic differentiation of HDPSCs. Their cell morphology changed to a cuboidal shape at 45 Hz and 100 Hz, but the cells in the other groups were elongated. FACS analysis showed decreased CD 73, CD 90, and CD 105 expression at 45 Hz and 100 Hz. Additionally, the proportions of cells in the G0/G1 phase in the control, 30 Hz, 45 Hz, and 100 Hz groups after vibration were 60.7%, 65.9%, 68.3%, and 66.7%, respectively. The mRNA levels of osteogenic-specific markers, including osteonectin, osteocalcin, BMP-2, ALP, and Runx-2, increased at 45 and 100 Hz, and the ALP and calcium content was elevated in the vibration groups compared with those in the control. Additionally, the western blotting results showed that p-ERK, BSP, osteoprotegerin, and osteonectin proteins were upregulated at 45 Hz compared with the other groups. The vibration groups showed higher ALP and calcium content than the control. Vibration, especially at 100 Hz, increased the number of calcified nodes relative to the control group, as evidenced by von Kossa staining. Immunohistochemical staining demonstrated that type I and III collagen, osteonectin, and osteopontin were upregulated at 45 Hz and 100 Hz. These results suggest that medium magnitude vibration at 45 Hz induces the G0/G1 arrest of HDPSCs through the p-ERK/Runx-2 pathway and can serve as a potent stimulator of differentiation and extracellular matrix production. Local vibration has shown promise in improving skin blood flow (SBF). However, there is no consensus on the selection of the best vibration frequency. An important reason may be that previous studies utilized time- and frequency-domain parameters to characterize vibration-induced SBF responses. These parameters are unable to characterize the structural features of the SBF response to local vibrations, thus contributing to the inconsistent findings seen in vibration research. The objective of this study was to provide evidence that nonlinear dynamics of SBF responses would be an important aspect for assessing the effect of local vibration on SBF. Local vibrations at 100 Hz, 35 Hz, and 0 Hz (sham vibration) with an amplitude of 1 mm were randomly applied to the right first metatarsal head of 12 healthy participants for 10 min. SBF at the same site was measured for 10 min before and after local vibration. The degree of regularity of SBF was quantified using a multiscale sample entropy algorithm. The results showed that 100 Hz vibration significantly increased multiscale regularity of SBF but 35 Hz and 0 Hz (sham vibration) did not. The significant increase of regularity of SBF after 100 Hz vibration was mainly attributed to increased regularity of SBF oscillations within the frequency interval at 0.0095–0.15 Hz. Monitoring the dynamic responses of bridge structures has received considerable attention. It is important to synchronously measure both the quasi-static and dynamic displacements of bridge structures. However, the traditional accelerometer method cannot capture the quasi-static displacement component, although it can detect the dynamic displacement component. To this end, a novel composite instrument of a smartstation was proposed to monitor vibration displacements of footbridges. Full-scale experiments were conducted on a footbridge to validate the feasibility of the composite instrument-based monitoring method. A Chebyshev filter and wavelet algorithms were developed to process the composite instrument measurements. It was concluded that the measurement noise of the composite instrument was mainly distributed in a frequency range of 0–0.1 Hz. In two case studies with displacement peaks of 5.7–10.0 mm and 1.3– 2.5 mm, the composite instrument accurately identified the quasi-static and dynamic displacements. This work presents a methodology to monitor the dynamic behaviour of tall metallic towers based on ground-based radar interferometry, and apply it to the case of telecommunication towers. Ground-based radar displacement measurements of metallic towers are acquired without installing any Corner Reflector (CR) on the structure. Each structural element of the tower is identified based on its range distance with respect to the radar. The interferometric processing of a time series of radar profiles is used to measure the vibration frequencies of each structural element and estimate the amplitude of its oscillation. A methodology is described to visualize the results and provide a useful tool for the real-time analysis of the dynamic behaviour of metallic towers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) can be used as atomic force microscope (AFM) probes since they are ideal tip materials with a small diameter, high aspect ratio, and stiffness. In this study, a model of CNTs clamped in an elastic medium is proposed as nanoscale force sensing AFM probes. The relationship between vibration frequency and axial force of the CNT probe clamped in an elastic medium is analyzed based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam model and the Whitney-Riley model. The clamped length of CNTs, and the elastic modulus of elastic medium affect largely on the vibration and the buckling stability of a CNT AFM probe. The result showed that the sensitivity to vibration increases as the applied loads increase. The critical load in which the vibration frequency decreases rapidly, moving to large ones with decreasing ratio of length to diameter of CNTs. The theoretical investigation on the vibration frequency of CNT loaded in the axial direction would give a useful reference for designing a CNT used as a nano-force sensor. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The most important thing in a thin and soft haptic module with an electroactive polymer actuator array is to increase its vibrotactile amplitude and to create a variety of vibrotactile sensations. In this paper, we introduce a thin film-type electroactive polymer actuator array capable of stimulating two types of human mechanoreceptors simultaneously, and we present a haptic rendering method that maximizes the actuators' vibrational force without improving the array's haptic performance. The increase in vibrational amplitude of the soft electroactive polymer actuator array is achieved by creating a beat vibration, which is an interference pattern of two vibrations with slightly different frequencies. The textures of a target object are translated into haptic stimuli using the proposed method. We conducted qualitative and quantitative experiments to evaluate the performance of the proposed rendering method. In this paper, we propose a new ultra-high-precision magnetic abrasive finishing method for wire material which is considered to be difficult with the existing finishing process. The processing method uses a rotating magnetic field system with unbonded magnetic abrasive type. It is believed that this process can efficiently perform the ultra-high-precision finishing for producing a smooth surface finish and removing a diameter of wire material. For such a processing improvement, the following parameters are considered; rotational speed of rotating magnetic field, vibration frequency of wire material, and unbonded magnetic abrasive grain size. In order to evaluate the performance of the new finishing process for the wire material, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) 1085 steel wire was used as the wire workpiece. The experimental results showed that the original surface roughness of AISI 1085 steel wire was enhanced from 0.25 µm to 0.02 µm for 60 s at 800 rpm of rotational speed. Also, the performance of the removed diameter was excellent. As the result, a new ultra-high-precision magnetic abrasive finishing using a rotating magnetic field with unbonded magnetic abrasive type could be successfully adopted for improving the surface roughness and removing the diameter of AISI 1085 steel wire material.
