In real-time remote sensing application, frames of data are continuously flowing into the processing system. The capability of detecting objects of interest and tracking them as they move is crucial to many critical surveillance and monitoring missions. Detecting small objects using remote sensors is an ongoing, challenging problem. Since object(s) are located far away from the sensor, the target's Signal-to-Noise-Ratio (SNR) is low. The Limit of Detection (LOD) for remote sensors is bounded by what is observable on each image frame. In this paper, we present a new method, a "Multi-frame Moving Object Detection System (MMODS)", to detect small, low SNR objects that are beyond what a human can observe in a single video frame. This is demonstrated by using simulated data where our technology-detected objects are as small as one pixel with a targeted SNR, close to 1:1. We also demonstrate a similar improvement using live data collected with a remote camera. The MMODS technology fills a major technology gap in remote sensing surveillance applications for small target detection. Our method does not require prior knowledge about the environment, pre-labeled targets, or training data to effectively detect and track slow- and fast-moving targets, regardless of the size or the distance. Aim We aimed to assess the relationships of patient education with the severity of treatment-induced side effects, daily calorie and protein intake, psychological status, and performance status in patients with lung cancer. Methods The study patients were divided into an intervention (n = 62) and a control group (n = 110). The patients in the intervention group were provided with information about treatment, diet, and rehabilitation during chemotherapy. The patients in the control group were not specially provided with that information. Results We observed significant differences between the intervention and control groups with respect to low daily protein intake (54.84% vs. 70.00%, p = 0.046), prevalence of depression (51.61% vs. 70.91%, p = 0.011), prevalence of severe side effects of treatment (14.52% vs. 37.27%, p = 0.002), and good performance status (75.81% vs. 55.45%, p = 0.008). Conclusions Our results suggest that educating patients about cancer treatment and rehabilitation can lead to increased protein intake, a lower prevalence of depression, lesser side effects from cancer treatments, and improved performance status. Purpose We assessed the quality of life (qol) of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (npc) survivors with a survival time of more than 2 years in Fujian, China, and we analyzed factors influencing QOL. Methods We calculated the prevalence of psychological distress and radiotherapy (rt)-induced symptoms in 216 npc survivors who participated in a cross-sectional survey. The European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire (version 3.0) was used to assess the qol of npc survivors. Multiple linear regression was applied to analyze the factors influencing QOL. Results The prevalence rates of rt-induced symptoms and psychological problems were 11.58% (95% ci: 7.21% to15.58%) for difficulty in swallowing, 17.59% (95% ci: 12.51% to 22.67%) for mouth dryness or sores, 13.89% (95% ci: 9.28% to 18.50%) for nasal dryness or congestion, 18.52% (95% ci: 13.34% to 23.70%) for fatigue, 11.11% (95% ci: 6.92% to 15.30%) for frequent dizziness, 18.06% (95% ci: 12.93% to 23.19%) for decline in hearing, 14.81% (95% ci: 10.07% to 19.55%) for poor sleep quality, 18.52% (95% ci: 13.34% to 23.70%) for worry about disease recurrence, 18.98% (95% ci: 13.75% to 24.21%) for anxiety, and 25.00% (95% ci: 19.23% to 30.77%) for depression. Mean survival times were 4.32 ± 2.63 years in patients with mouth dryness or sores, 4.26 ± 2.90 years in patients with fatigue, and 5.60 ± 2.94 years in patients with a decline in hearing. The mean global qol score was 74.21 (95% ci: 72.22 to 76.20). At a significance level of α = 0.05, the factors influencing qol were age (p = 0.032), education level (p = 0.001), anxiety score (p < 0.001), depression score (p < 0.001), mouth dryness or sores (p < 0.001), fatigue (p = 0.027), and disease stage (p = 0.044). Conclusions The prevalence rates of mouth dryness or sores, fatigue, decline in hearing, depression, and anxiety were high in npc survivors with a survival time of more than 2 years. These rt-induced symptoms and psychological problems can last for many years after rt. The qol of the npc survivors was good. Factors influencing qol were age, education level, anxiety, depression, mouth dryness or sores, fatigue, and disease stage. Our results suggest that during clinical treatment, doctors should minimize the radiation dose to the ears of patients. Purpose In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effects of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neurotoxicity (CIPN) on psychological distress and sleep quality in cancer patients. Methods A total of 706 cancer patients were interviewed for the study. In the 4th week of treatment, patient CIPN was measured using the Patient Neurotoxicity Questionnaire (PNQ ) . The sleep quality and psychological distress of patients were measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) , the Distress Thermometer (DT) , and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). Multiple logistic regression was applied to determine the independent effects of CIPN on psychological distress and sleep disturbance in the patients. Results These correlation coefficients were obtained: 0.387 (P < 0.0001) between the PNQ total score and the DT score, 0.386 (p < 0.0001) between the PNQ total score and the HADS Depression score, 0.379 (p < 0.0001) between the PNQ total score and the HADS Anxiety score, and 0.399 (p < 0.0001) between the PNQ total score and the PSQI global score. The prevalence rates of distress, depression, anxiety, and poor sleep quality in the five PNQ grades were statistically significantly different (p < 0.0001). After controlling for age, sex, education level, social supports, fatigue, disease stage, and tumour site, the PNQ grades were found to be associated with depression (p < 0.0001), anxiety (p < 0.0001), and poor sleep quality (p < 0.0001). Conclusions Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neurotoxicity negatively affects psychological distress and sleep quality in cancer patients treated with chemotherapy. High PNQ grades were significantly associated with poor psychological status and sleep quality. In this paper, we explore the performance of the distance-weighting probabilistic data association (DWPDA) approach in conjunction with the loopy sum-product algorithm (LSPA) for tracking multiple objects in clutter. First, we discuss the problem of data association (DA), which is to infer the correspondence between targets and measurements. DA plays an important role when tracking multiple targets using measurements of uncertain origin. Second, we describe three methods of data association: probabilistic data association (PDA), joint probabilistic data association (JPDA), and LSPA. We then apply these three DA methods for tracking multiple crossing targets in cluttered environments, e.g., radar detection with false alarms and missed detections. We are interested in two performance metrics: tracking accuracy and computation time. LSPA is known to be superior to PDA in terms of the former and to dominate JPDA in terms of the latter. Last, we consider an additional DA method that is a modification of PDA by incorporating a weighting scheme based on distances between position estimates and measurements. This distance-weighting approach, when combined with PDA, has been shown to enhance the tracking accuracy of PDA without significant change in the computation burden. Since PDA constitutes a crucial building block of LSPA, we hypothesize that DWPDA, when integrated with LSPA, would perform better under the two performance metrics above. In this work, a MoS 2 /C heterostructure was designed and prepared through an in situ composite method. The introduction of carbon during the synthesis process altered the morphology and size of MoS 2 , resulting in a reduction in the size of the flower-like structures. Further, by varying the carbon content, a series of characterization methods were employed to study the structure and electrochemical lithium storage performance of the composites, revealing the effect of carbon content on the morphology, structure characteristics, and electrochemical performance of MoS 2 /C composites. The experimental setup included three sample groups: MCS, MCM, and MCL, with glucose additions of 0.24 g, 0.48 g, and 0.96 g, respectively. With increasing carbon content, the size of MoS 2 initially decreases, then increases. Among these, the MCM sample exhibits the optimal structure, characterized by smaller MoS 2 dimensions with less variation. The electrochemical results showed that MCM exhibited excellent electrochemical lithium storage performance, with reversible specific capacities of 956.8, 767.4, 646.1, and 561.4 mAh/g after 10 cycles at 100, 200, 500, and 1000 mA/g, respectively.

Stroke is a severe neurological disorder resulting from the rupture or blockage of blood vessels, leading to significant mortality and disability worldwide. Among the different types of stroke, ischemic stroke (IS) is the most prevalent, accounting for 70-80% of cases. Cell death following IS occurs through various mechanisms, including apoptosis, necrosis, and ferroptosis. Ferroptosis, a recently identified form of regulated cell death characterized by iron overload and lipid peroxidation, was first described by Dixon in 2012. Currently, the only approved pharmacological treatment for IS is recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA), which is limited by a narrow therapeutic window and often results in suboptimal outcomes. Recent research has identified several traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs) that can inhibit ferroptosis, thereby mitigating the damage caused by IS. This review provides an overview of stroke, the role of ferroptosis in IS, and the potential of certain TCMs to inhibit ferroptosis and contribute to stroke treatment.

By using a scaffold hopping/ring equivalent and intermediate derivatization strategies, a series of compounds of 2,5-diphenyl-1,3-oxazoline with substituent changes at the 5-phenyl position were prepared, and their acaricidal activity was studied. However, the synthesized 2,5-diphenyl-1,3-oxazolines showed lower activity against mite eggs and larvae compared to the 2,4-diphenyl-1,3-oxazolines with the same substituents. We speculate that there is a significant difference in the spatial extension direction of the substituents between the two skeletons of compounds, resulting in differences in their ability to bind to the potential target chitin synthase 1. This work is helpful in inferring the internal structure of chitin synthase binding pockets.

Consumer perception of beef is heavily influenced by overall meat quality, a critical factor in the cattle industry. Genomics has the potential to improve important beef quality traits and identify genetic markers and causal variants associated with these traits through genomic selection (GS) and genome-wide association studies (GWAS) approaches. Transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics provide insights into underlying genetic mechanisms by identifying differentially expressed genes, proteins, and metabolic pathways linked to quality traits, complementing GWAS data. Leveraging these functional genomics techniques can optimize beef cattle breeding for enhanced quality traits to meet high-quality beef demand. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of applications of omics technologies in uncovering functional variants underlying beef quality complexities. By highlighting the latest findings from GWAS, GS, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics studies, this work seeks to serve as a valuable resource for fostering a deeper understanding of the complex relationships between genetics, gene expression, protein dynamics, and metabolic pathways in shaping beef quality.

Foxtail millet prolamin, one of the major protein constituents of foxtail millet, has garnered attention due to its unique amino acid composition and function. Foxtail millet prolamin exhibits specific physicochemical and functional characteristics, such as solubility, surface hydrophobicity, emulsifying, and foaming properties. These characteristics have been exploited in the preparation and development of products, including plant-based alternative products, nutritional supplements, and gluten-free foods. Additionally, because of the favorable biocompatibility and biodegradability, foxtail millet prolamin is frequently used as a carrier for encapsulation and targeted delivery of bioactive substances. Moreover, studies have shown that foxtail millet prolamin is highly nutritious and displays various biological activities like antioxidant effects, anti-inflammatory properties, and anti-diabetic potential, making it a valuable ingredient in medicinal products and contributing to its potential role in therapeutic diets. This review summarizes the current knowledge of the amino acid composition and structural characteristics of foxtail millet prolamin, as well as the functional properties, biological activities, and applications in functional food formulation and drug delivery strategy. Challenges and future perspectives for the utilization of foxtail millet prolamin are also pointed out. This review aims to provide novel ideas and broad prospects for the effective use of foxtail millet prolamin.

In large public places such as railway stations and airports, dense pedestrian detection is important for safety and security. Deep learning methods provide relatively effective solutions but still face problems such as feature extraction difficulties, image multi-scale variations, and high leakage detection rates, which bring great challenges to the research in this field. In this paper, we propose an improved dense pedestrian detection algorithm GR-yolo based on Yolov8. GR-yolo introduces the repc3 module to optimize the backbone network, which enhances the ability of feature extraction, adopts the aggregation-distribution mechanism to reconstruct the yolov8 neck structure, fuses multi-level information, achieves a more efficient exchange of information, and enhances the detection ability of the model. Meanwhile, the Giou loss calculation is used to help GR-yolo converge better, improve the detection accuracy of the target position, and reduce missed detection. Experiments show that GR-yolo has improved detection performance over yolov8, with a 3.1% improvement in detection means accuracy on the wider people dataset, 7.2% on the crowd human dataset, and 11.7% on the people detection images dataset. Therefore, the proposed GR-yolo algorithm is suitable for dense, multi-scale, and scene-variable pedestrian detection, and the improvement also provides a new idea to solve dense pedestrian detection in real scenes.

Tick-borne Encephalitis (TBE) is a zoonotic disease caused by the Tick-borne Encephalitis virus (TBEV), which affects the central nervous system of both humans and animals. Currently, there is no specific therapy for patients with TBE, with symptomatic treatment being the primary approach. In this study, the effects of minocycline (MIN), which is a kind of tetracycline antibiotic, on TBEV propagation and cellular protection in TBEV-infected cell lines were evaluated. Indirect immunofluorescence, virus titers, and RT-qPCR results showed that 48 h post-treatment with MIN, TBEV replication was significantly inhibited in a dose-dependent manner. In addition, the inhibitory effect of MIN on different TBEV multiplicities of infection (MOIs) in Vero cells was studied. Furthermore, the transcriptomic analysis and RT-qPCR results indicate that after incubation with MIN, the levels of TBEV and CALML4 were decreased, whereas the levels of calcium channel receptors, such as RYR2 and SNAP25 , were significantly increased. MIN also regulated MAPK-ERK-related factors, including FGF2 , PDGFRA , PLCB2 , and p-ERK, and inhibited inflammatory responses. These data indicate that administering MIN to TBEV-infected cells can reduce the TBEV level, regulate calcium signaling pathway-associated proteins, and inhibit the MAPK-ERK signaling pathway and inflammatory responses. This research offers innovative strategies for the advancement of anti-TBEV therapy.

Phosphorus (P) and iron (Fe) are two essential mineral nutrients in plant growth. It is widely observed that interactions of P and Fe could influence their availability in soils and affect their homeostasis in plants, which has received significant attention in recent years. This review presents a summary of latest advances in the activation of insoluble Fe-P complexes by soil properties, microorganisms, and plants. Furthermore, we elucidate the physiological and molecular mechanisms underlying how plants adapt to Fe-P interactions. This review also discusses the current limitations and presents potential avenues for promoting sustainable agriculture through the optimization of P and Fe utilization efficiency in crops.

In this study, we design an embedded surface EMG acquisition device to conveniently collect human surface EMG signals, pursue more intelligent human-computer interactions in exoskeleton robots, and enable exoskeleton robots to synchronize with or even respond to user actions in advance. The device has the characteristics of low cost, miniaturization, and strong compatibility, and it can acquire eight-channel surface EMG signals in real time while retaining the possibility of expanding the channel. This paper introduces the design and function of the embedded EMG acquisition device in detail, which includes the use of wired transmission to adapt to complex electromagnetic environments, light signals to indicate signal strength, and an embedded processing chip to reduce signal noise and perform filtering. The test results show that the device can effectively collect the original EMG signal, which provides a scheme for improving the level of human-computer interactions and enhancing the robustness and intelligence of exoskeleton equipment. The development of this device provides a new possibility for the intellectualization of exoskeleton systems and reductions in their cost.

In order to solve the problem of great difficulty in detecting the internal damage of wire rope, this paper proposes a method to improve the VGG model to identify the internal damage of wire rope. The short-time Fourier transform method is used to transform the wire rope damage signal into a time-frequency spectrogram as the model input, and then the traditional VGG model is improved from three aspects: firstly, the attention mechanism module is introduced to increase the effective feature weights, which effectively improves the recognition accuracy; and then, the batch normalization layer is added to carry out a uniform normalization of the data, so as to make the model easier to converge. At the same time, the pooling layer and the fully connected layer are improved to solve the redundancy problem of the traditional VGG network model, which makes the model structure more lightweight, greatly saves the computational cost, shortens the training time, and finally adopts the joint-sample uniformly distributed cross-entropy as the loss function to solve the overfitting problem and further improve the recognition rate. The experimental results show that the improved VGG model has an identification accuracy of up to 98.84% for the internal damage spectrogram of the wire rope, which shows a good identification ability. Not only that, but the model is also superior, with less time-consuming training and stronger generalization ability.

In nature, lakes and water channels offer abundant underwater energy sources. However, effectively harnessing these green and sustainable underwater energy sources is challenging due to their low flow velocities. Here, we propose an underwater energy-harvesting system based on a cylindrical bluff body and a cantilever beam composed of a macro fiber composite (MFC), taking advantage of the MFC's low-frequency, lightweight, and high piezoelectric properties to achieve energy harvesting in low-frequency and low-speed water flows. When a water flow impacts the cylindrical bluff body, it generates vibration-enhanced and low-frequency vortices behind the bluff body. The optimized diameter of the bluff body and the distance between the bluff body and the MFC were determined using finite element analysis software, specifically COMSOL. According to the simulation results, an energy-harvesting system based on an MFC cantilever beam applied in a low-frequency and low-speed water flow was designed and prepared. When the diameter of the bluff body was 25 mm, and the distance between the bluff body and MFC was 10 mm and the maximum output voltage was 22.73 V; the power density could reach 0.55 mW/cm 2 after matching the appropriate load. The simulation results and experimental findings of this study provide valuable references for designing and investigating energy-harvesting systems applied in low-frequency and low-speed water flows.

Stylo ( Stylosanthes spp.) is an important pasture legume with strong aluminum (Al) resistance. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying its Al tolerance remain fragmentary. Due to the incomplete genome sequence information of stylo, we first conducted full-length transcriptome sequencing for stylo root tips treated with and without Al and identified three Snakin/GASA genes, namely, SgSnakin1 , SgSnakin2 , and SgSnakin3 . Through quantitative RT-PCR, we found that only SgSnakin1 was significantly upregulated by Al treatments in stylo root tips. Histochemical localization assays further verified the Al-enhanced expression of SgSnakin1 in stylo root tips. Subcellular localization in both tobacco and onion epidermis cells showed that SgSnakin1 localized to the cell wall. Overexpression of SgSnakin1 conferred Al tolerance in transgenic Arabidopsis, as reflected by higher relative root growth and cell vitality, as well as lower Al concentration in the roots of transgenic plants. Additionally, overexpression of SgSnakin1 increased the activities of SOD and POD and decreased the levels of O 2 ·- and H 2 O 2 in transgenic Arabidopsis in response to Al stress. These findings indicate that SgSnakin1 may function in Al resistance by enhancing the scavenging of reactive oxygen species through the regulation of antioxidant enzyme activities.

Scene text detection is an important research field in computer vision, playing a crucial role in various application scenarios. However, existing scene text detection methods often fail to achieve satisfactory results when faced with text instances of different sizes, shapes, and complex backgrounds. To address the challenge of detecting diverse texts in natural scenes, this paper proposes a multi-scale natural scene text detection method based on attention feature extraction and cascaded feature fusion. This method combines global and local attention through an improved attention feature fusion module (DSAF) to capture text features of different scales, enhancing the network's perception of text regions and improving its feature extraction capabilities. Simultaneously, an improved cascaded feature fusion module (PFFM) is used to fully integrate the extracted feature maps, expanding the receptive field of features and enriching the expressive ability of the feature maps. Finally, to address the cascaded feature maps, a lightweight subspace attention module (SAM) is introduced to partition the concatenated feature maps into several sub-space feature maps, facilitating spatial information interaction among features of different scales. In this paper, comparative experiments are conducted on the ICDAR2015, Total-Text, and MSRA-TD500 datasets, and comparisons are made with some existing scene text detection methods. The results show that the proposed method achieves good performance in terms of accuracy, recall, and F-score, thus verifying its effectiveness and practicality.

This paper investigates the combustion characteristics and pollutant emission patterns of the mixed combustion of lignite (L) and torrefied pine wood (TPW) under different blending ratios. Isothermal combustion experiments were conducted in a fixed bed reaction system at 800 °C, and pollutant emission concentrations were measured using a flue gas analyzer. Using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and BET (nitrogen adsorption) experiments, it was found that torrefied pine wood (TPW) has a larger specific surface area and a more developed pore structure, which can facilitate more complete combustion of the sample. The results of the non-isothermal thermogravimetric analysis show that with the TPW blending ratio increase, the entire combustion process advances, and the ignition temperature, maximum peak temperature, and burnout temperature all show a decreasing trend. The kinetic equations of the combustion reaction process of mixed gas were calculated by Flynn-Wall-Ozawa (FWO) and Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS) kinetic equations. The results show that the blending of TPW reduces the activation energy of the combustion reaction of the mixed fuel. When the TPW blending ratio is 80%, the activation energy values of the mixed fuel are the lowest at 111.32 kJ/mol and 104.87 kJ/mol. The abundant alkali metal ions and porous structure in TPW reduce the conversion rates of N and S elements in the fuel to NO and SO 2 , thus reducing the pollutant emissions from the mixed fuel.

Deep learning has shown significant advantages in Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) anomaly detection, but it is known for its susceptibility to adversarial examples which make anomaly detection models non-robust. In this study, we propose T ime N eighborhood A ccumulation I teration F ast G radient S ign M ethod ( TNAI-FGSM ) adversarial attacks which fully take into account the temporal correlation of an ADS-B time series, stabilize the update directions of adversarial samples, and escape from poor local optimum during the process of iterating. The experimental results show that TNAI-FGSM adversarial attacks can successfully attack ADS-B anomaly detection models and improve the transferability of ADS-B adversarial examples. Moreover, the TNAI-FGSM is superior to two well-known adversarial attacks called the Fast Gradient Sign Method (FGSM) and Basic Iterative Method (BIM). To the best of our understanding, we demonstrate, for the first time, the vulnerability of deep-learning-based ADS-B time series unsupervised anomaly detection models to adversarial examples, which is a crucial step in safety-critical and cost-critical Air Traffic Management (ATM).

Newcastle disease virus (NDV) is an avian pathogen with an unsegmented negative-strand RNA genome that belongs to the Paramyxoviridae family. While primarily pathogenic in birds, NDV presents no threat to human health, rendering it a safe candidate for various biomedical applications. Extensive research has highlighted the potential of NDV as a vector for vaccine development and gene therapy, owing to its transcriptional modularity, low recombination rate, and lack of a DNA phase during replication. Furthermore, NDV exhibits oncolytic capabilities, efficiently eliciting antitumor immune responses, thereby positioning it as a promising therapeutic agent for cancer treatment. This article comprehensively reviews the biological characteristics of NDV, elucidates the molecular mechanisms underlying its oncolytic properties, and discusses its applications in the fields of vaccine vector development and tumor therapy.

The road passenger transportation enterprise is a complex system, requiring a clear understanding of their active safety situation (ASS), trends, and influencing factors. This facilitates transportation authorities to promptly receive signals and take effective measures. Through exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis, we delved into potential factors for evaluating ASS and extracted an ASS index. To predict obtaining a higher ASS information rate, we compared multiple time series models, including GRU (gated recurrent unit), LSTM (long short-term memory), ARIMA, Prophet, Conv&#95;LSTM, and TCN (temporal convolutional network). This paper proposed the WDA-DBN (water drop algorithm-Deep Belief Network) model and employed DEEPSHAP to identify factors with higher ASS information content. TCN and GRU performed well in the prediction. Compared to the other models, WDA-DBN exhibited the best performance in terms of MSE and MAE. Overall, deep learning models outperform econometric models in terms of information processing. The total time spent processing alarms positively influences ASS, while variables such as fatigue driving occurrences, abnormal driving occurrences, and nighttime driving alarm occurrences have a negative impact on ASS.

Bacterial infection is a common complication in bone defect surgery, in which infection by clinically resistant bacteria has been a challenge for the medical community. Given this emerging problem, the discovery of novel natural-type inhibitors of drug-resistant bacteria has become imperative. Brucine, present in the traditional Chinese herb Strychnine semen , is reported to exert analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Brucine's clinical application was limited because of its water solubility. We extracted high-purity BS by employing reflux extraction and crystallization, greatly improved its solubility, and evaluated its antimicrobial activity against E. coli and S. aureus . Importantly, we found that BS inhibited the drug-resistant strains significantly better than standard strains and achieved sterilization by disrupting the bacterial cell wall. Considering the safety concerns associated with the narrow therapeutic window of BS, a 3D BS-PLLA/PGA bone scaffold system was constructed with SLS technology and tested for its performance, bacteriostatic behaviors, and biocompatibility. The results have shown that the drug-loaded bone scaffolds had not only long-term, slow-controlled release with good cytocompatibility but also demonstrated significant antimicrobial activity in antimicrobial testing. The above results indicated that BS may be a potential drug candidate for the treatment of antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections and that scaffolds with enhanced antibacterial activity and mechanical properties may have potential applications in bone tissue engineering.

Compound 7-16 was designed and synthesized in our previous study and was identified as a more potential selective 5-HT 2A receptor antagonist and inverse agonist for treating Parkinson's disease psychosis (PDP). Then, the metabolism, disposition, and excretion properties of 7-16 and its potential inhibition on transporters were investigated in this study to highlight advancements in the understanding of its therapeutic mechanisms. The results indicate that a total of 10 metabolites of 7-16/[ 14 C]7-16 were identified and determined in five species of liver microsomes and in rats using UPLC-Q Exactive high-resolution mass spectrometry combined with radioanalysis. Metabolites formed in human liver microsomes could be covered by animal species. 7-16 is mainly metabolized through mono-oxidation (M470-2) and N-demethylation (M440), and the CYP3A4 isozyme was responsible for both metabolic reactions. Based on the excretion data in bile and urine, the absorption rate of 7-16 was at least 74.7%. 7-16 had weak inhibition on P-glycoprotein and no effect on the transport activity of OATP1B1, OATP1B3, OAT1, OAT3, and OCT2 transporters. The comprehensive pharmacokinetic properties indicate that 7-16 deserves further development as a new treatment drug for PDP.

A chemical investigation of the arils of Torreya grandis led to the isolation of seven abietane-type diterpenoids (compounds 1 - 7 ) including three previously undescribed compounds, one unreported natural product, and three known analogs. The structures of these compounds were determined by means of spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and ECD spectra. An antibacterial activity assay showed that compounds 5 and 6 had significant inhibitory effects on methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus , with MIC values of 100 μM. Moreover, compounds 1 , 3 , 4 , and 7 exhibited anti-neuroinflammatory activity in LPS-stimulated BV-2 microglia cells, with the IC 50 values ranging from 38.4 to 67.9 μM.

Cancer comprises malignant cells surrounded by the tumor microenvironment (TME), a dynamic ecosystem composed of heterogeneous cell populations that exert unique influences on tumor development. The immune community within the TME plays a substantial role in tumorigenesis and tumor evolution. The innate and adaptive immune cells "talk" to the tumor through ligand-receptor interactions and signaling molecules, forming a complex communication network to influence the cellular and molecular basis of cancer. Such intricate intratumoral immune composition and interactions foster the application of immunotherapies, which empower the immune system against cancer to elicit durable long-term responses in cancer patients. Single-cell technologies have allowed for the dissection and characterization of the TME to an unprecedented level, while recent advancements in bioinformatics tools have expanded the horizon and depth of high-dimensional single-cell data analysis. This review will unravel the intertwined networks between malignancy and immunity, explore the utilization of computational tools for a deeper understanding of tumor-immune communications, and discuss the application of these approaches to aid in diagnosis or treatment decision making in the clinical setting, as well as the current challenges faced by the researchers with their potential future improvements.

Cuproptosis and ferroptosis represent copper- and iron-dependent forms of cell death, respectively, and both are known to play pivotal roles in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). However, few studies have explored the prognostic signatures related to cuproptosis and ferroptosis in HNSCC. Our objective was to construct a prognostic model based on genes associated with cuproptosis and ferroptosis. We randomly assigned 502 HSNCC samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) into training and testing sets. Pearson correlation analysis was utilized to identify cuproptosis-associated ferroptosis genes in the training set. Cox proportional hazards (COX) regression and least absolute shrinkage operator (LASSO) were employed to construct the prognostic model. The performance of the prognostic model was internally validated using single-factor COX regression, multifactor COX regression, Kaplan-Meier analysis, principal component analysis (PCA), and receiver operating curve (ROC) analysis. Additionally, we obtained 97 samples from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database for external validation. The constructed model, based on 12 cuproptosis-associated ferroptosis genes, proved to be an independent predictor of HNSCC prognosis. Among these genes, the increased expression of aurora kinase A (AURKA) has been implicated in various cancers. To further investigate, we employed small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) to knock down AURKA expression and conducted functional experiments. The results demonstrated that AURKA knockdown significantly inhibited the proliferation and migration of HNSCC cells (Cal27 and CNE2). Therefore, AURKA may serve as a potential biomarker in HNSCC.

Hyperforatums A-D ( 1 - 4 ), four new polyprenylated acylphloroglucinols, together with 13 known compounds were isolated and identified from the aerial parts of Hypericum perforatum L. (St. John's wort). Their structures were confirmed with a comprehensive analysis comprising spectroscopic methods, including 1D and 2D NMR, HRESIMS, and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations. Hyperforatum A featured an unusual chromene-1,4-dione bicyclic system, and hyperforatums B and C were two rare monocyclic PPAPs with five-membered furanone cores. Compound 1 exhibited a moderate inhibition effect on NO production in BV-2 microglial cells stimulated by LPS.

Melanoma is the leading cause of global skin cancer-related death and currently ranks as the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia. Melanoma patients with in-transit metastases (ITM), a type of locoregional metastasis located close to the primary tumor site, exhibit a high likelihood of further disease progression and poor survival outcomes. Immunotherapies, particularly immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI), have demonstrated remarkable efficacy in ITM patients with reduced occurrence of further metastases and prolonged survival. The major challenge of immunotherapeutic efficacy lies in the limited understanding of melanoma and ITM biology, hindering our ability to identify patients who likely respond to ICIs effectively. In this review, we provided an overview of melanoma and ITM disease. We outlined the key ICI therapies and the critical immune features associated with therapy response or resistance. Lastly, we dissected the underlying biological components, including the cellular compositions and their communication networks within the tumor compartment, to enhance our understanding of the interactions between immunotherapy and melanoma, providing insights for future investigation and the development of drug targets and predictive biomarkers.

The transcription and replication of the Newcastle disease virus (NDV) strictly rely on the viral ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complex, which is composed of viral NP, P, L and RNA. However, it is not known whether other viral non-RNP proteins participate in this process for viral self-regulation. In this study, we used a minigenome (MG) system to identify the regulatory role of the viral non-RNP proteins V, M, W, F and HN. Among them, V significantly reduced MG-encoded reporter activity compared with the other proteins and inhibited the synthesis of viral mRNA and cRNA. Further, V interacted with NP. A mutation in residue W195 of V diminished V-NP interaction and inhibited inclusion body (IB) formation in NP-P-L-cotransfected cells. Furthermore, a reverse-genetics system for the highly virulent strain F48E9 was established. The mutant rF48E9-V W195R increased viral replication and apparently enhanced IB formation. In vivo experiments demonstrated that rF48E9-V W195R decreased virulence and retarded time of death. Overall, the results indicate that the V-NP interaction of the W195 mutant V decreased, which regulated viral RNA synthesis, IB formation, viral replication and pathogenicity. This study provides insight into the self-regulation of non-RNP proteins in paramyxoviruses.

This research sought to assess the effects of dietary supplements with Gracilaria lichenoides and Bacillus amyloliquefaciens , either individually or combined, on the growth performance, antioxidant capacity, and intestinal function of Penaeus monodon . A total of 840 shrimps were randomly assigned to 28 tanks with an average initial weight of (1.04 ± 0.03) g (30 shrimp per tank) with 7 different treatment groups and 4 replicates per treatment. The control treatment (C) consisted of a basal diet; in contrast, the experimental groups were complement with varying levels of G. lichenoides (3% or 8%), either alone (S3 and S8) or in combination with B.amyloliquefaciens at different concentrations (3% G. lichenoides and 10 9 CFU/g-S3B9; 8% G. lichenoides and 10 11 CFU/g B. amyloliquefaciens -S8B11; 10 9 CFU/g B. amyloliquefaciens -S9; 10 11 CFU/g B. amyloliquefaciens -B11). The results indicated that the maximum values of final body weight (FBW) (10.49 ± 0.90) g, weight gain rate (WGR) (908.94 ± 33.58) g, and specific growth rate (SGR) (4.20 ± 0.06) g were perceived in the 3% G. lichenoide diet treatment, and compared with the control group, the difference was significant ( p < 0.05). The whole-body lipid content of shrimp in the B9 group was significantly higher than that in the B11 group ( p < 0.05), but no significant difference was observed when compared with shrimp fed other diets ( p > 0.05). The ash content of shrimp in the B9 group was found to be significantly higher than that in the S3B9 group ( p < 0.05). Furthermore, the lipase activity in the stomach and intestines of the experimental groups exhibited a statistically significantly increase compared to the control ( p < 0.05). In comparison to the control group, the hepatopancreas of the S3 group exhibited a significant increase in the activities of glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and antioxidant genes [ SOD , catalase ( CAT ), GSH-Px , thioredoxin ( Trx ), Hippo , and NF-E2-related factor 2 ( Nrf2 )] expression levels ( p < 0.05). Additionally, the activities of total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), SOD, peroxidase (POD), and antioxidant genes ( CAT , GSH-Px , Trx , and Hippo ) in the S3B9 treatment of hepatopancreas showed significant improvement ( p < 0.05). The inclusion of dietary G. lichenoides and B. amyloliquefaciens resulted in enhanced relative expression of intestinal lipid metabolism genes (fatty acid synthetase ( FAS ), lipophorin receptor ( LR ), fatty acid transport protein 1 ( FATP 1)) and suppressed the expression of the long-chain fatty acid-CoA ligase 4 ( LCL 4) gene. Analysis of microbiota sequencing indicated improvements in composition and structure, with notable increases in Firmicutes at the phylum level and Vibrio at the genus level in the S3 group, as well as an increase in Tenericutes at the genus level in the S8B11 group. Overall, the inclusion of dietary G. lichenoides and B . amyloliquefaciens positively impacted the growth, antioxidant capacity, and microbial composition of shrimp, with particular enhancement observed in shrimp fed a supplementary 3% G. lichenoides diet.

An innovative method for synthesizing optimum difference patterns of the spherical sensor array is introduced, along with a sidelobe tapering technique. Firstly, we suggest employing the spherical harmonics of degree ±1 to synthesize the spherical array difference pattern; secondly, we study the mapping relationship between the difference pattern of the spherical sensor array and the difference pattern of the uniformly spaced linear array (ULA) with odd-numbered elements; finally, we enhance the Zolotarev difference pattern, which is a counterpart to the Dolph-Chebyshev sum pattern that traditionally allows synthesis only for ULA with even-numbered elements. Our modification extends its applicability to synthesize difference patterns for ULA with odd-numbered elements. Leveraging the optimal difference pattern, a generalized Bayliss difference pattern synthesis method designed for the ULA with odd-numbered elements is further proposed. To illustrate the effectiveness of our approach, we present several design examples through experimental simulation.

With the increase in the scale of breeding at modern pastures, the management of dairy cows has become much more challenging, and individual recognition is the key to the implementation of precision farming. Based on the need for low-cost and accurate herd management and for non-stressful and non-invasive individual recognition, we propose a vision-based automatic recognition method for dairy cow ear tags. Firstly, for the detection of cow ear tags, the lightweight Small-YOLOV5s is proposed, and then a differentiable binarization network (DBNet) combined with a convolutional recurrent neural network (CRNN) is used to achieve the recognition of the numbers on ear tags. The experimental results demonstrated notable improvements: Compared to those of YOLOV5s, Small-YOLOV5s enhanced recall by 1.5%, increased the mean average precision by 0.9%, reduced the number of model parameters by 5,447,802, and enhanced the average prediction speed for a single image by 0.5 ms. The final accuracy of the ear tag number recognition was an impressive 92.1%. Moreover, this study introduces two standardized experimental datasets specifically designed for the ear tag detection and recognition of dairy cows. These datasets will be made freely available to researchers in the global dairy cattle community with the intention of fostering intelligent advancements in the breeding industry.

The RNA-Seq and gene expression data of mature leaves under high temperature stress of Paeonia suffruticosa 'Hu Hong' were used to explore the key genes of heat tolerance of peony. The weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) method was used to construct the network, and the main modules and core genes of co-expression were screened according to the results of gene expression and module function enrichment analysis. According to the correlation of gene expression, the network was divided into 19 modules. By analyzing the expression patterns of each module gene, Blue, Salmon and Yellow were identified as the key modules of peony heat response related functions. GO and KEGG functional enrichment analysis was performed on the genes in the three modules and a network diagram was constructed. Based on this, two key genes PsWRKY53 (TRINITY&#95;DN60998&#95;c1&#95;g2, TRINITY&#95;DN71537&#95;c0&#95;g1) and PsHsfB2b (TRINITY&#95;DN56794&#95;c0&#95;g1) were excavated, which may play a key role in the heat shock response of peony. The three co-expression modules and two key genes were helpful to further elucidate the heat resistance mechanism of P. suffruticosa 'Hu Hong'.

Microcystin-LR (MC-LR) is a cyanobacterial metabolite produced during cyanobacterial blooms and is toxic to aquatic animals, and the liver is the main targeted organ of MC-LR. To comprehensively understand the toxicity mechanism of chronic exposure to environmental levels of MC-LR on the liver of fish, juvenile Nile tilapia were exposed to 0 μg/L (control), 1 μg/L (M1), 3 μg/L (M3), 10 μg/L (M10), and 30 μg/L (M30) MC-LR for 60 days. Then, the liver hepatotoxicity induced by MC-LR exposure was systematically evaluated via histological and biochemical determinations, and the underlying mechanisms were explored through combining analysis of biochemical parameters, multi-omics (transcriptome and metabolome), and gene expression. The results exhibited that chronic MC-LR exposure caused slight liver minor structural damage and lipid accumulation in the M10 group, while resulting in serious histological damage and lipid accumulation in the M30 group, indicating obvious hepatotoxicity, which was confirmed by increased toxicity indexes (i.e., AST, ALT, and AKP). Transcriptomic and metabolomic analysis revealed that chronic MC-LR exposure induced extensive changes in gene expression and metabolites in six typical pathways, including oxidative stress, apoptosis, autophagy, amino acid metabolism, primary bile acid biosynthesis, and lipid metabolism. Taken together, chronic MC-LR exposure induced oxidative stress, apoptosis, and autophagy, inhibited primary bile acid biosynthesis, and caused fatty deposition in the liver of Nile tilapia.

Cemented carbide used in the rotor of a mud pulser is subjected to the scouring action of solid particles and corrosive mud media for a long time, which causes abrasive wear and electrochemical corrosion. To improve the wear and corrosive resistance of cemented carbide, samples with different cobalt content (WC-5Co, WC-8Co, and WC-10Co) receive deep cryogenic treatment (DCT) at -196 °C for 2.5 h. An optical metalloscope (OM) and X-ray diffractometer (XRD) are used to observe the phase changes of cemented carbides, and the XRD is also used to observe the change in residual stress on the cemented carbide's surface. A scanning electron microscope (SEM) is used to characterize the wear and electrochemical corrosion surface microstructure of cemented carbides (untreated and DCT). The results show that the DCT promotes the precipitation of the η phase, and the diffraction peak of ε-Co tends to intensify. Compared with the untreated, the wear rates of WC-5Co, WC-8Co, and WC-10Co can be reduced by 14.71%, 37.25%, and 41.01% by DCT, respectively. The wear form of the cemented carbides is mainly the extrusion deformation of Co and WC shedding. The precipitation of the η phase and the increase in WC residual compressive stress by DCT are the main reasons for the improvement of wear resistance. The electrochemical corrosion characteristic is the dissolution of the Co phase. DCT causes the corrosion potential of cemented carbide to shift forward and the corrosion current density to decrease. The enhancement of the corrosion resistance of cemented carbide caused by DCT is due to the Co phase transition, η phase precipitation, and the increase in the compressive stress of cemented carbide.

This study proposes a novel multipoint transducer system by utilizing the single-mode-multimode-thin-cladding fiber (SMTC) structure. This structure leverages the disparity in mode field diameter between the multimode fiber (MMF) and thin-cladding fiber (TCF) to generate high-amplitude ultrasonic signals safely and efficiently. The fabricated transducer exhibits signal amplitudes 2-3-fold higher compared to conventional laser-ultrasonic transducers. Simulation analysis investigates the impact of the length of the MMF and the diameter of the TCF on coupling efficiency. The coupling efficiency of individual transducer units can be accurately controlled by adjusting the length of the MMF. A three-point energy-balanced laser-ultrasonic transducer system was achieved, with improved energy conversion efficiencies, and the optimal thickness of candle soot nanoparticles (CSNPs) is experimentally determined. Additionally, we carried out experiments to compare the performance of the proposed SMTC-based transducer system under different material conditions using two different photoacoustic materials: graphite-epoxy resin and candle soot nanoparticle-polydimethylsiloxane (CSNP-PDMS) composite. CSNPs, as a cost-effective and easy-to-prepare composite material, exhibit higher photoacoustic conversion efficiency compared to graphite-epoxy resin. The proposed system demonstrates the potential for applications in non-destructive testing techniques.

Cell cycle-dependent kinase 2 (CDK2) is located downstream of CDK4/6 in the cell cycle and regulates cell entry into S-phase by binding to Cyclin E and hyper-phosphorylating Rb. Proto-oncogene murine double minute 2 (MDM2) is a key negative regulator of p53, which is highly expressed in tumors and plays an important role in tumorigenesis and progression. In this study, we identified a dual inhibitor of CDK2 and MDM2, III-13, which had good selectivity for inhibiting CDK2 activity and significantly reduced MDM2 expression. In vitro results showed that III-13 inhibited proliferation of a wide range of tumor cells, regardless of whether Cyclin E1 (CCNE1) was overexpressed or not. The results of in vivo experiments showed that III-13 significantly inhibited proliferation of tumor cells and did not affect body weight of mice. The results of the druggability evaluation showed that III-13 was characterized by low bioavailability and poor membrane permeability when orally administered, suggesting the necessity of further structural modifications. Therefore, this study provided a lead compound for antitumor drugs, especially those against CCNE1-amplified tumor proliferation.

Vortex beams carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM) provide a new degree of freedom for light waves in addition to the traditional degrees of freedom, such as intensity, phase, frequency, time, and polarization. Due to the theoretically unlimited orthogonal states, the physical dimension of OAM is capable of addressing the problem of low information capacity. With the advancement of the OAM optical communication technology, OAM router devices (OAM-RDs) have played a key role in significantly improving the flexibility and practicability of communication systems. In this review, major breakthroughs in the OAM-RDs are summarized, and the latest technological standing is examined. Additionally, a detailed account of the recent works published on techniques related to the OAM-RDs has been categorized into five areas: channel multicasting, channel switching, channel filtering, channel hopping, and channel adding/extracting. Meanwhile, the principles, research methods, advantages, and disadvantages are discussed and summarized in depth while analyzing the future development trends and prospects of the OAM-RDs.

In this study, electrically insulating polyolefin elastomer (POE)-based phase change materials (PCMs) comprising alumina (Al 2 O 3 ) and graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) are prepared using a conventional injection moulding technique, which exhibits promising applications for solar energy storage due to the reduced interfacial thermal resistance, excellent stability, and proficient photo-thermal conversion efficiency. A synergistic interplay between Al 2 O 3 and GNPs is observed, which facilitates the establishment of thermally conductive pathways within the POE/paraffin wax (POE/PW) matrix. The in-plane thermal conductivity of POE/PW/GNPs 5 wt%/Al 2 O 3 40 wt% composite reaches as high as 1.82 W m -1 K -1 , marking a remarkable increase of ≈269.5% when compared with that of its unfilled POE/PW counterpart. The composite exhibits exceptional heat dissipation capabilities, which is critical for thermal management applications in electronics. Moreover, POE/PW/GNPs/Al 2 O 3 composites demonstrate outstanding electrical insulation, enhanced mechanical performance, and efficient solar energy conversion and transportation. Under 80 mW cm -2 NIR light irradiation, the temperature of the POE/PW/GNPs 5 wt%/Al 2 O 3 40 wt% composite reaches approximately 65 °C, a notable 20 °C improvement when compared with the POE/PW blend. The pragmatic and uncomplicated preparation method, coupled with the stellar performance of the composites, opens a promising avenue and broader possibility for developing flexible PCMs for solar conversion and thermal storage applications.

The goal of visual place recognition (VPR) is to determine the location of a query image by identifying its place in a collection of image databases. Visual sensor technologies are crucial for visual place recognition as they allow for precise identification and location of query images within a database. Global descriptor-based VPR methods face the challenge of accurately capturing the local specific regions within a scene; consequently, it leads to an increasing probability of confusion during localization in such scenarios. To tackle feature extraction and feature matching challenges in VPR, we propose a modified patch-NetVLAD strategy that includes two new modules: a context-aware patch descriptor and a context-aware patch matching mechanism. Firstly, we propose a context-driven patch feature descriptor to overcome the limitations of global and local descriptors in visual place recognition. This descriptor aggregates features from each patch's surrounding neighborhood. Secondly, we introduce a context-driven feature matching mechanism that utilizes cluster and saliency context-driven weighting rules to assign higher weights to patches that are less similar to densely populated or locally similar regions for improved localization performance. We further incorporate both of these modules into the patch-NetVLAD framework, resulting in a new approach called contextual patch-NetVLAD . Experimental results are provided to show that our proposed approach outperforms other state-of-the-art methods to achieve a Recall@10 score of 99.82 on Pittsburgh30k, 99.82 on FMDataset, and 97.68 on our benchmark dataset.

Pollen cells require large amounts of sugars from the anther to support their development, which is critical for plant sexual reproduction and crop yield. Sugars Will Eventually be Exported Transporters (SWEETs) have been shown to play an important role in the apoplasmic unloading of sugars from anther tissues into symplasmically isolated developing pollen cells and thereby affect the sugar supply for pollen development. However, among the 17 CsSWEET genes identified in the cucumber ( Cucumis sativus L.) genome, the CsSWEET gene involved in this process has not been identified. Here, a member of the SWEET gene family, CsSWEET5a , was identified and characterized. The quantitative real-time PCR and β-glucuronidase expression analysis revealed that CsSWEET5a is highly expressed in the anthers and pollen cells of male cucumber flowers from the microsporocyte stage (stage 9) to the mature pollen stage (stage 12). Its subcellular localization indicated that the CsSWEET5a protein is localized to the plasma membrane. The heterologous expression assays in yeast demonstrated that CsSWEET5a encodes a hexose transporter that can complement both glucose and fructose transport deficiencies. CsSWEET5a can significantly rescue the pollen viability and fertility of atsweet8 mutant Arabidopsis plants. The possible role of CsSWEET5a in supplying hexose to developing pollen cells via the apoplast is also discussed.

Residual current is an important monitoring quantity of a power system, and a current sensor plays an important role in detecting current. The substation environment is complex. In addition to the power frequency signal, residual current also has AC and DC components. But it is also affected by the stray magnetic field of the substation. Therefore, the accuracy of the current sensor demands higher requirements. The tunnel magnetoresistive sensor has the advantages of a stable operation, high efficiency, and energy saving, but it is easily affected by the external stray magnetic field during measurements, resulting in a large error. Therefore, this paper proposes a residual-current sensing monitoring system considering the magnetic shielding effect. The root mean square error of the magnetic shielding structure is only 0.572 mA, which can effectively reduce the influence of the external magnetic field and improve the detection accuracy. At the same time, the DC measurement error is less than 1%, the AC measurement error is less than 5%, and the hybrid AC/DC error is less than 8%. It has good response ability and can accurately detect residual current.

Changes in the atmospheric CO 2 concentration influence plant growth and development by affecting the morphological structure and photosynthetic performance. Despite evidence for the macro-effects of elevated CO 2 concentrations on plant morphology and yield in tomato, the gene regulatory network and key genes related to cross-regulation have not been reported. To identify the hub genes and metabolic pathways involved in the response of tomato to CO 2 enrichment, weighted gene co-expression network analysis was conducted using gene expression profiles obtained by RNA sequencing. The role of the photosynthesis-related gene Soly720 ( Solyc01g007720 ) in CO 2 -enriched tomato plants was explored. Tomato plants responded to CO 2 enrichment primarily through RNA-related pathways and the metabolism of amino acids, fatty acids, and carbohydrates. The hub genes in co-expression networks were associated with plant growth and development, including cellular components and photosynthesis. Compared to wild-type plants, transgenic plants overexpressing the Soly720 gene exhibited 13.4%, 5.5%, 8.9%, and 4.1% increases in plant height, stem diameter, leaf length, and leaf width, respectively, under high-CO 2 conditions. The morphological improvements in transgenic plants were accompanied by enhancement of photosynthetic performance in terms of chlorophyll contents, photosynthetic characteristics, and key enzyme activities. This study elucidates the response network of tomato to CO 2 enrichment and demonstrates the regulatory role of Soly720 in photosynthesis under high-CO 2 conditions.

Defatted cottonseed meal (CSM), the residue of cottonseeds after oil extraction, is a major byproduct of the cotton industry. Converting CSM to biochar and utilizing the goods in agricultural and environmental applications may be a value-added, sustainable approach to recycling this byproduct. In this study, raw CSM was transformed into biochar via complete batch slow pyrolysis at 300, 350, 400, 450, 500, 550, and 600 °C. Thermochemical transformation of phosphorus (P) in CSM during pyrolysis was explored. Fractionation, lability, and potential bioavailability of total P (TP) in CSM-derived biochars were evaluated using sequential and batch chemical extraction techniques. The recovery of feed P in biochar was nearly 100% at ≤550 °C and was reduced to <88% at 600 °C. During pyrolysis, the organic P (OP) molecules predominant in CSM were transformed into inorganic P (IP) forms, first to polyphosphates and subsequently to orthophosphates as promoted by a higher pyrolysis temperature. Conversion to biochar greatly reduced the mobility, lability, and bioavailability of TP in CSM. The biochar TP consisted of 9.3-17.9% of readily labile (water-extractable) P, 10.3-24.1% of generally labile (sequentially NaHCO 3 -extractable) P, 0.5-2.8% of moderately labile (sequentially NaOH-extractable) P, 17.0-53.8% of low labile (sequentially HCl-extractable) P, and 17.8-47.5% of residual (unextractable) P. Mehlich-3 and 1 M HCl were effective batch extraction reagents for estimating the "readily to mid-term" available and the "overall" available P pools of CSM-derived biochars, respectively. The biochar generated at 450 °C exhibited the lowest proportions of readily labile P and residual P compounds, suggesting 450 °C as the optimal pyrolysis temperature to convert CSM to biochar with maximal P bioavailability and minimal runoff risk.

Time-hopping pulse position modulation (TH-PPM) stands out as a secure communication due to the pseudo-random characteristics of its time-hopping sequence. However, the conventional TH-PPM transceiver encounters challenges in implementation, particularly in achieving the requisite high precision for synchronization. This paper introduces a novel non-coherent Q -ary TH-PPM transceiver, designed to surpass the Bit error rate (BER) performance of conventional TH-PPM transceivers in scenarios under non-ideal synchronization conditions, which also being straightforward to implement. Firstly, we provide an overview of the conventional TH-PPM transceiver. Secondly, the novel TH-PPM transceiver is introduced. In this context, a novel method for generating the TH-PPM signal is proposed for the transmitter, and a parallel matched-filter algorithm, adapted to the new TH-PPM signal, is presented for the receiver. Subsequently, the investigation delves into an in-depth analysis of BER performance, considering both ideal synchronization conditions and non-ideal synchronization conditions, for both the conventional and the new TH-PPM transceiver. Furthermore, the paper proposes a numerical simulation to validate the theoretical findings. The results demonstrate that the new TH-PPM transceiver outperforms the conventional counterpart by showing better BER performance in scenarios with non-ideal synchronization conditions.

Non-heading Chinese cabbage prefers cool temperatures, and heat stress has become a major factor for reduced yield. The proline transporter protein (ProT) is highly selective for proline transport, contributing to the heat tolerance of non-heading Chinese cabbage. However, there has been no systematic study on the identification and potential functions of the ProT gene family in response to heat stress in non-heading Chinese cabbage. We identified six BchProT genes containing 11-12 transmembrane helices characteristic of membrane proteins through whole-genome sequencing. These genes diverged into three evolutionary branches and exhibited similarity in motifs and intron/exon numbers. Segmental duplication is the primary driving force for the amplification of BchProT . Notably, many stress-related elements have been identified in the promoters of BchProT using cis-acting element analysis. The expression level of BchProT6 was the highest in petioles, and the expression level of BchProT1 was the highest under high-temperature stress. Subcellular localization indicated their function at cell membranes. Heterologous expression of BchProT1 in Arabidopsis plants increased proline transport synthesis under heat-stress conditions. This study provides valuable information for exploring the molecular mechanisms underlying heat tolerance mediated by members of the BchProT family.

This brief proposes a 1-6 GHz broadband double-balanced mixer. On the basis of the standard Marchand balun mixer, two techniques to enhance the performance of the mixer are proposed. Firstly, by loading capacitors, the amplitude and phase imbalance of the balun at high frequencies are improved, thereby expanding the relative bandwidth of the mixer by 0.1. Secondly, by cascading a first-order LC filter at the intermediate-frequency (IF) port, the leakage of radio frequency (RF) and local oscillator (LO) signals at the IF port is reduced by approximately 8 dB and 7 dB, respectively. This brief analyzes the various parameters that affect balun indicators and designs a broadband balun with a double-layer spiral line structure. As a result of these technologies, a 1-6 GHz double-balanced mixer is realized. The chip area is 1.13 mm × 0.95 mm, and the isolation between the IF port and the RF port is 34 dB and yields 13.5 dBm input power at 1 dB compression point (IP1 dB). The chip is fabricated via the GaAs pHEMT process.
