Ammonium inhibition is a key limiting factor for anaerobic digestion when using chicken manure as the main substrate, especially in a digestion system with biogas slurry reflux. Air stripping is usually used as a recycled biogas slurry treatment. In this study, we carried out the anaerobic co-digestion of chicken manure and corn straw. The fermentation performance was investigated with and without air stripping at different biogas slurry reflux ratios and with an increasing organic loading rate. The results show that air stripping enhanced biogas production, system stability, and volatile solid removal efficiency via the mitigation control of ammonium inhibition. The total ammonium nitrogen in the digesters with air stripping was 20.24–46.40% lower than in those without air stripping. The highest specific biogas production and volatile solid removal efficiency values were obtained in the digesters at an organic loading rate of 3.3 g volatile solid (VS)/(L·d) and a reflux ratio of 75% with air stripping, reaching 480.43 mL/gVSadd and 63.36%, respectively. Moreover, air stripping also improved the organic loading rate and reflux ratio. Stable operation was achieved at an organic loading rate of 5.3 gVS/(L·d) and a reflux ratio of 75%, with specific biogas production of 392.35 mL/gVSadd and a volatile solid removal efficiency of 50.33%. The fermentation performance deteriorated when the organic loading rate was increased to 8.0 gVS/(L·d) at a reflux ratio of 75%, even when air stripping was conducted, indicating that a slighter lower reflux ratio (50%) could be more feasible at a higher organic loading rate (8.0 gVS/(L·d). Additionally, the methanogen community structure varied according to the use of air stripping, with a shift in the methanogenic pathway from hydrogenotrophic to acetoclastic methanogens. This study delves into the innovative application of a novel bacterial and enzyme mixture alone or combined with aeration in mitigating emissions from pig slurry storage and explores their impacts on the methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2), and ammonia (NH3) emissions from stored pig slurry. A dynamic chamber was used in this research to assess the efficacy of the treatments. Biological additives (HIPO-PURÍN) of specific microbial strains were tested (a mixture ofof Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus megaterium, Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus amyloliquefacien, and Bacillus thuringiensis) alone and combined with an aeration system (OXI-FUCH). Controlled experiments simulated storage conditions, where emissions of ammonia, methane, and carbon dioxide were measured. By analyzing the results statistically, the treatment with HIPO-PURÍN demonstrated a significant reduction in CH4 emissions by 67% and CO2 emissions by 60% with the use of biological additives, which was increased to 99% and 87%, respectively, when combined with OXI-FUCH aeration, compared to untreated slurry. Ammonia emissions were substantially reduced by 90% with biological additives alone and by 76% when combined with aeration. The study was driven by the need to develop sustainable solutions for livestock waste management, particularly in reducing emissions from pig slurry. It introduces techniques that significantly lower greenhouse gases, aligning with circular economy goals and setting a new standard for sustainable agriculture. Furthermore, there is a need to validate that farmers can independently manage pig slurry using simple and effective treatments techniques with profound environmental benefits, encouraging broader adoption of climate-conscious practices. Dairy slurry could be a significant source of nitrogen (N) for plants, but mismanagement can lead to atmospheric ammonia losses or nitrate leaching into groundwater. To make the use of dairy slurry efficient and reasonable, the loss of N pollution to the environment should be reduced. We used repacked lysimeters to comprehensively determine ammonia emission and N leaching losses in an alfalfa–soil system. The application of dairy slurry had no significant effect on alfalfa yield at the same rate of N application in comparison to chemical fertilizer, and adding humic acids significantly increased yield by about 12%. However, the application of dairy slurry increased the ammonia emission rate significantly, leading to an increase in the cumulative amount of ammonia emission, while the addition of humic acids reduced the ammonia emissions by 11%. Chemical fertilizer and dairy slurry application significantly increased nitrate leaching compared to the control treatment, while the addition of humic acids can significantly reduce ammonium N leaching. Dairy slurry was proven to be as effective as chemical N fertilizer in achieving the optimum biomass, and adding humic acids can significantly reduce N loss to the atmosphere and groundwater. This study showed the possibility of replacing chemical fertilizer with dairy slurry in alfalfa production and the advantages of humic acids' addition to alfalfa to maintain production yield and improve environmental friendliness. The purpose of this study is to investigate the feasibility of replacing the fly ash in synchronous grouting material by reusing the shield mud produced in the clay stratum during the shield construction of Wuhan Rail Transit Line 11. The test utilizes the shield mud from the clay stratum to replace the fly ash material in synchronous grouting at percentages of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%, and research and analyses are conducted on the fluidity, stability, strength, and resistance to water dispersion of the slurry after the replacement; at the same time, improvements in the undesirable phenomenon produced by the synchronous grouting slurry are also examined after the replacement. The results show that, when the fly ash is replaced by shield mud at 80%, the mortar still has good stability and strength performance, but, at the same time, the initial value of consistency and the phenomenon of flow time loss is too large. Through the adjustment of the water–binder ratio and the addition of an appropriate amount of a polycarboxylate superplasticizer agent, the adverse phenomenon of the slurry is effectively improved, and the compressive strength and ease of the slurry are also improved. At the same time, when adding an appropriate amount of hydroxyethyl methyl cellulose (HEMC), the slurry has good water dispersion resistance, but, with the gradual increase in HEMC, the fluidity of the slurry deteriorates and the compressive strength decreases. The test proves that the shield mud in the clay stratum can be used to replace most of the fly ash in an appropriate proportion, which not only solves the problem of the shield mud being difficult to work with, but also provides more valuable insights for tunneling projects. Polycarboxylate superplasticizers BMC-L and BMC-S were utilized as modifiers in the formulation of novel cement-based grouting materials. Indoor tests were conducted on 32 groups of cement slurries, varying by water–cement ratio (0.5:1 and 0.6:1) and modifier content (0, 2‰, 4‰, 6‰, 8‰, 10‰, 12‰, and 14‰), to test their density, funnel viscosity, water separation rate, and stone rate. Four groups of slurry modified with BMC-L were selected as the preferred slurry, and the apparent viscosity test, uniaxial, and triaxial compression test of the slurry stone body were conducted. The study investigated the influence of BMC-L on various properties of the slurry, including its apparent viscosity, uniaxial compressive strength, stress–strain relationships, shear strength parameters, and elastic modulus. Ultimately, the pore structure and phase composition of the slurry stone body were detected by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and the impact of BMC-L on slurry performance was examined from a microstructural perspective. Results indicate that the two polycarboxylate superplasticizers exert minimal influence on the density and water separation rate of the slurry. Within the effective incorporation range of the polycarboxylate superplasticizer, increasing the dosage correlates with a decrease in both the stone rate and viscosity of the slurry. BMC-L significantly enhances the mechanical properties of the slurry stone body by promoting more complete cement hydration and reducing porosity. The uniaxial compressive strength of slurry stone body with a 6 ‰ BMC-L dosage reached 29.7 MPa after 7 days and 38.5 MPa after 28 days of curing, representing increases of 118.4% and 64%, respectively, compared to masonry with 0 BMC-L dosage. The timely injection of gangue slurry into the mining space formed after coal mining can scale up the disposal of gangue and control surface deformation. However, the waterproof effect of gangue slurry in the mining space remains unclear, necessitating urgent investigation into the permeability characteristics of compacted backfill bodies of gangue slurry under the action of overburden. In this study, a multi-field coupled seepage test system for backfill materials was developed based on Forchheimer's nonlinear seepage law, and a laboratory preparation method for compacted backfill body (CBB) of gangue slurry after grouting and backfilling in mining space under pseudo-triaxial conditions was proposed. Additionally, the pressure bleeding characteristics of gangue slurry under the action of overburden were studied, the variation law of permeability of the CBB with the axial pressure, a particle size range, and cement dosage was revealed, and the determination method for the permeability level of the CBB and its optimization method were put forward. The research results indicate that there are obvious staged characteristics in the pressure bleeding changes in gangue slurry. Axial pressure, particle size range, and cement dosage all have a significant impact on the permeability of the CBB. The permeability level of the CBB of gangue slurry is within the range of poor permeability and extremely poor permeability. The utilization of 3D printing technology for the fabrication of intricate transparent ceramics overcomes the limitations associated with conventional molding processes, thereby presenting a highly promising solution. In this study, we employed direct ink writing (DIW) to prepare yttrium oxide transparent ceramics using a ceramic slurry with excellent moldability, solid content of 45 vol%, and shear-thinning behavior. A successfully printed transparent yttrium oxide ring measuring 30 mm in diameter, 10 mm in inner diameter, and 0.9 mm in thickness was obtained from the aforementioned slurry. After de-binding and sintering procedures, the printed ceramic exhibited in-line transmittance of 71% at 850 nm. This work not only produced complex yttria transparent ceramics with intricate shapes, but also achieved in-line transmittance that was comparable to that of the CIP method (79%), which can meet certain optical applications. Crop diversification and the reduction of nitrogen (N) inputs are key issues in the EU for more sustainable agriculture. An experiment was set up in a semiarid rainfed Mediterranean system. Our hypothesis was that these challenges could be addressed by introducing new crops and using pig slurries (PSs). The experimental factors were N fertilization at sowing (with or without PS) combined (according to a split-block design) with N fertilization as topdressing (the control, two N mineral rates, and two N rates from PS). Barley, rapeseed, and pea performances were evaluated in two different crop sequences: (i) barley–rapeseed or rapeseed–barley after a fallow season, and (ii) barley–pea or pea–barley after a fallow season followed by a non-fertilized barley crop. The results of the four-year study demonstrated that under a spring drought risk, barley performed better than peas in terms of relative crop yield maintenance. After fallow, N can be saved while maintaining the yields and total biomass of barley and rapeseed. In the second crop sequence, maximum pea and barley yields were associated with a minimum topdressing of 60 or 120 kg mineral N ha−1, respectively. However, slurry fertilization at sowing also allowed the highest yields for barley. Rapeseed and peas can be introduced to reduce N fertilization inputs. However, the obtained yield plateau for pea and rapeseed (3 and 4 Mg ha−1, respectively) and the effect of a yield spring drought on pea yields (50% reduction) might be a constraint for the success of EU policies on crop diversification. As damming material, fine-grained tailings present challenges such as low dam strength and poor stability. To address these issues, this study employs geotextile tube technology to mix water with fine-grained tailings, forming a tailing slurry with a concentration of 60%, which is filled into a geotextile bag to form a geotextile tube, so as to improve the stability of fine-grained tailings. The shear strength characteristics of each interface under different consolidation times and different filling degrees were studied via an indoor shear experiment, including the shear strength of tailing particles, that between tailings and geotextiles, and that within geotextile tubes themselves. The results show that the shear strength of each interface conforms to the Mohr–Coulomb strength criterion, and that the interface cohesion is greatly affected by the consolidation time, while the interface friction angle is mainly affected by the filling degree. Moreover, the shear strength comparison, based on the comprehensive friction angle concept, indicates a substantial increase in shear strength at the interfaces between geotextile tubes compared to both that of the tailings themselves and the interface between tailings and geotextiles, highlighting the reinforcing effect of the geotextile tube filling technology on tailings' shear strength. The concrete slurry waste (CSW) produced by concrete mixing plants is a type of hazardous waste that is difficult to handle. To better recycle the CSW separated from the aggregates, this study uses a variety of wet-grinding processes to refine the solid in it, replaces some of the cement with the solid particles in wet grinding concrete slurry waste (WCSW), and investigates the properties of WCSW and its effect on the hydration and hardening properties of cement. The results show that a suitable wet-grinding process can ensure that the particle size in WCSW is less than 10 μm, the particle morphology is more flat, and the degree of hydration is higher. The WCSW particles can promote early cement hydration; after adding WCSW, the heat release peak of cement hydration appears earlier and more early hydration products are produced, and with the increase in the substitution amount, the promoting effect on early cement hydration will be more significant. The WCSW particles have a great effect on improving the strength of mortar, especially in the early stage. At 1 d, when the substitution amount is 7.5 wt.%, the compressive and flexural strength is increased by 43.67% and 45.04%; this is related to the filling of matrix pores and the improvement of the interface transition zone by micro- and nanoparticles. As a new type of backfill material, Self-compacting solidified soil (SCSS) takes the abandoned slurry of cast-in-place piles after dewatering and reduction as the main raw material, which brings a problem of coordinating the working performance with the mechanical property under the condition of high mobility. In this paper, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) and metakaolin were introduced as additives to solve this problem. First, the workability and mechanical properties of SCSS were regulated and optimized by means of the water seepage rate test, the flowability test, and the unconfined compressive strength test. Second, this study also used X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to investigate the effects of HPMC and metakaolin on the physical phase and microstructure of SCSS. In this way, the results showed that there was a significant impact on the flowability of SCSS, that is, when the dosage reached 0.3%, the water seepage rate of SCSS was reduced to less than 1%, and the compressive strength at 7 days reached its peak. At the same time, HPMC weakened the strength growth of SCSS in the age period of 7 days to 14 days. However, the addition of metakaolin promoted its compressive strength. XRD analysis showed that the additives had no significant effects on the physical phases. And, from the SEM results, it can be seen that although the water-retaining effect of HPMC makes hydration of cement more exhaustive, more ettringite (AFt) can be observed in the microstructure. In addition, it can be observed that the addition of metakaolin can generate more hydrated calcium silicate (C-S-H) due to the strong surface energy possessed by metakaolin. In this research, a direct-write 3D-printing method was utilized for the fabrication of inter-digitized solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) using ceramic materials. The cathode electrode was fabricated using the LSCF (La0.6Sr0.2Fe0.8Co0.2O3-δ) slurry loading and the Polyvinyl butyral (PVB) binder. The rheological parameters of slurries with varying LSCF slurry loading and PVB binder concentration were evaluated to determine their effect on the cathode trace performance in terms of microstructure, size, and resistance. Additionally, the dimensional shrinkage of LSCF lines after sintering was investigated to realize their influence on cathode line width and height. Moreover, the effect of the direct-write process parameters such as pressure, distance between the nozzle and substrate, and speed on the cathode line dimensions and resistance was evaluated. LSCF slurry with 50% solid loading, 12% binder, and 0.2% dispersant concentration was determined to be the optimal value for the fabrication of SOFCs using the direct-write method. The direct-write process parameters, in addition to the binder and LSCF slurry concentration ratios, had a considerable impact on the microstructure of cathode lines. Based on ANOVA findings, pressure and distance had significant effects on the cathode electrode resistance. An increase in the distance between the nozzle and substrate, speed, or extrusion pressure of the direct writing process increased the resistance of the cathode lines. These findings add to the ongoing effort to refine SOFC fabrication techniques, opening the avenues for advanced performance and efficiency of SOFCs in energy applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Featured Application: This article focuses on the design and construction of bentonite slurry trenches. Performing three-dimensional numerical analyses in the manner presented in the paper is relatively straightforward from a numerical standpoint and can be effectively utilised both in the preliminary design stages and for optimising the slurry trench wall construction process. Bentonite slurry trenches are becoming increasingly popular in the excavation of trenches, especially for diaphragm wall construction. The problem that needs to be addressed is the stability of bentonite slurry trenches. This paper presents a stability analysis of trenches with temporary support from bentonite slurry, with unit weights ranging from 10.5 to 12.0 kN/m3 in the realistic stratum, and C3 in the Hue city area. Our analysis employs the Shear Strength Reduction Technique (SSR) with Mohr–Coulomb materials to numerically evaluate the factor of safety (FS). The finite element method (FEM) software program (RS2 v. 121 and RS3 v. 4.0) and the finite difference method (FDM) FLAC v. 7.0 software were used. Additionally, the limit equilibrium method (LEM) of Bell–Washbourne and three-dimensional (3D) Bishop were used to calculate trench stability. The results of the analysis show a good agreement between RS2 and FLAC2D, and between RS3 and FLAC3D. Secondly, upon comparison, it was noted that the factor of safety of the 3D software programs (RS3 v. 4.0, FLAC v. 7.0) was higher than that of the 2D software programs (RS2 v. 11.0, FLAC v. 7.0), ranging from 52.3 to 63.0% for trench lengths of 6 m. However, for trench lengths of 54 m, the factor of safety values in 2D and 3D configurations were nearly equal. Thirdly, the factor of safety of the Bell–Washbourne method (LEM) was lower than that of the numerical analysis methods (FLAC and RS programs). Pre-grouting is an effective method to reinforce fractured coal in front of working faces. The mining of adjacent working faces after grouting can cause early damage to the grouting cemented coal. To explore the mechanical properties of grouting cemented coal with different degrees of early damage, we designed and built a grouting equipment that was used on fractured coal to produce grouting cemented coal. In total, 0%, 20%, 40%, and 60% of the uniaxial compressive strength of complete coal were applied to the grouting cemented coal to produce early damage. The uniaxial compressive test, digital image correlation technology (DIC), acoustic emission (AE), and scan electron microscopy (SEM) were used to explore the changes in the mechanical properties of the grouting cemented coal with different early disturbance, and the surface and internal failure modes of the samples were investigated. The results show that with an increase in the early damage degree from 0% to 60%, the strength of the grouting cemented coal samples first increased and then decreased. Moreover, when the damage degree was 40%, the strength of the grouting cemented coal reached a maximum, which increased by 24.38% compared to that of the grouting cemented coal without damage. Under the low degree of damage, the samples exhibited tensile failure. As the damage degree increases, the samples' failure mode changes to shear and mixed failure mode, and the breakdown speed increases. Internal crack propagation mostly occurred during the failure stage. As the damage degree increased, the failure stage increased, and the grouting cemented coal exhibited plastic characteristics. However, when the early damage degree increased to 60%, the samples exhibited typical brittle failure characteristics. The microstructure results show that the low degree of early damage for the samples is conducive to the infiltration of the slurry in coal, improving the grouting reinforcement effect. Additive manufacturing, commonly referred to as 3D printing, is an exciting and versatile manufacturing technology that has gained traction and interest in both academic and industrial settings. Polymeric materials are essential components in a majority of the feedstocks used across the various 3D printing technologies. As the environmental ramifications of sole or primary reliance on petrochemicals as a resource for industrial polymers continue to manifest themselves on a global scale, a transition to more sustainable bioderived alternatives could offer solutions. In particular, cellulose is promising due to its global abundance, biodegradability, excellent thermal and mechanical properties, and ability to be chemically modified to suit various applications. Traditionally, native cellulose was incorporated in additive manufacturing applications only as a substrate, filler, or reinforcement for other materials because it does not melt or easily dissolve. Now, the exploration of all-cellulose 3D printed materials is invigorated by new liquid processing strategies involving liquid-like slurries, nanocolloids, and advances in direct cellulose solvents that highlight the versatility and desirable properties of this abundant biorenewable photosynthetic feedstock. This review discusses the progress of all-cellulose 3D printing approaches and the associated challenges, with the purpose of promoting future research and development of this important technology for a more sustainable industrial future. Inline analytics in industrial processes reduce operating costs and production rejection. Dedicated sensors enable inline process monitoring and control tailored to the application of interest. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance is a well-known analytical technique but needs adapting for low-cost, reliable and robust process monitoring. A V-shaped low-field NMR sensor was developed for inline process monitoring and allows non-destructive and non-invasive measurements of materials, for example in a pipe. In this paper, the industrial application is specifically devoted to the quality control of anode slurries in battery production. The characterization of anode slurries was performed with the sensor to determine chemical composition and detect gas inclusions. Additionally, flow properties play an important role in continuous production processes. Alumina ceramic is an ideal candidate for armor protection, but it is limited by the difficult molding or machining process. Three-dimensional printing imparts a superior geometric flexibility and shows good potential in the preparation of ceramics for armor protection. In this work, alumina ceramics were manufactured via 3D printing, and the effects of different monomers on the photosensitive slurry and sintered ceramics were investigated. The photosensitive slurries using dipropylene glycol diacrylate (DPGDA) as a monomer displayed the optimal curing performance, with a low viscosity, small volume shrinkage and low critical exposure energy, and each of the above properties was conducive to a good curing performance in 3D printing, making it a suitable formula for 3D-printed ceramic materials. In the 3D-printed ceramics with DPGDA as a monomer, a dense and uniform microstructure was exhibited after sintering. In comparison, the sample with trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTA) showed an anisotropic microstructure with interlayer gaps and a porosity of about 9.8%. Attributed to the dense uniform microstructure, the sample with DPGDA exhibited superior properties, including a relative density of 97.5 ± 0.5%, a Vickers hardness of 19.4 ± 0.8 GPa, a fracture toughness of 2.6 ± 0.27 MPa·m1/2, a bending strength of 690 ± 54 MPa, and a dynamic strength of 3.7 ± 0.6 GPa at a strain rate of 1200 s−1. To address the issues of corrosion weakening of solid-waste-based backfill material caused by mine water, a novel hydrophobic solid waste backfill (HSBF) material was developed using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and a silane coupling agent (SCA) as hydrophobic modification additives, and NaOH (SH) and sodium silicate (SS) as alkali activators. Fly ash and slag were chosen as the primary raw solid waste materials. The rheological properties of the hydrophobic-treated backfill slurries were measured, and the resulting physicochemical properties were compared with the unmodified reference group. This study reveals that the fresh HSBF slurry follows a Modified Bingham (M-B) model with shear-thinning characteristics. The addition of PDMS causes an increase in the water contact angle of the hardened HSBF material with F8S2 to up to 134.9°, indicating high hydrophobicity. Morphological observations indicated that PDMS mainly attaches to the inorganic particles' surface through the bridging action of SCA for the hydrophobic modification of the backfill material. The overall strength of the HSBF materials was further ensured via fly ash–slag ratio optimization, and was found to be enhanced up to 98% by increasing slag content from 20% to 50%. This is mainly attributed to the hydration of slag, forming C-S(A)-H gel, which contributes to the increased strength. The novel HSBF material enables the elimination of cement in mine backfilling applications, demonstrating good economic benefits. Its excellent mechanical and hydrophobic properties can not only prevent overburden displacement in goaf areas, but can also mitigate water resource loss from overlying strata and simultaneously reduce the safety risks associated with long-term mine water deterioration. The present study aims to resolve the existing research gaps on olive pomace (OP) hydrochars application as a fuel by evaluating its molecular structures (FTIR and solid NMR analysis), identifying influential characteristics (Pearson correlation analysis), process optimization (response surface methodology), slagging–fouling risks (empirical indices), and combustion performance (TG-DSC analysis). The response surfaces plot for hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) of OP slurry performed in a pressure reactor under varied temperatures (180–250 °C) and residence times (2–30 min) revealed 250 °C for 30 min to be optimal conditions for producing hydrochar fuel with a higher heating value (32.20 MJ·Kg−1) and energy densification ratio (1.40). However, in terms of process efficiency and cost-effectiveness, the optimal HTC conditions for producing the hydrochar with the highest energy yield of 87.9% were 202.7 °C and 2.0 min. The molecular structure of hydrochar was mainly comprised of aromatic rings with methyl groups, alpha-C atoms of esters, and ether bond linkages of lignin fractions. The slagging and fouling risks of hydrochars were comparatively lower than those of raw OP, as indicated by low slagging and fouling indices. The Pearson correlation analysis emphasized that the enrichment of acid-insoluble lignin and extractive contents, carbon densification, and reduced ash content were the main pivotal factors for hydrochar to exhibit better biofuel characteristics for energy applications. When a slurry TBM advances in pebble and rock strata, large rock particles are carried in pipelines out of a tunnel by moving slurry. To estimate the wear of horizontally straight slurry discharge pipes, a phenomenological model was proposed that was mainly based on knowledge gained by means of direct and indirect in situ observations. The proposed model applies an equation composed of three variables, namely, the wear rate (λ), the central angle (2α), and the excavated tunnel length (L), to estimate the wear distribution along a pipe's internal surface. The results indicated that wear mainly occurred on the bottoms of pipes. In addition, linear relationships between the maximum pipe wear amount (δmax) and the excavated tunnel length (L) were found for specific pipes and specified types of ground. The observed wear rates of different pipes in different types of ground had varied constants. The wear rates were higher for pipes in rock ground than for those in a pebble layer. For horizontally straight pipes, the observed wear rates were 0.0045 mm/m in a pebble layer and 0.0212 mm/m in rock ground. This study investigates the environmental impacts caused by the scaling up of the photocatalytic purification of drinking water using ultraviolet light-emitting diode technology. The life cycle assessment methodology was utilised to estimate the environmental impacts of two different reactor setups commonly used in lab-scale studies: an immobilised and a suspended TiO2 catalytic system. The functional unit adopted was the treatment of 1 L of water with an initial 7.8 mg/L concentration of natural organic matter, achieving a final 1 mg/L concentration. The use of a suspended photocatalyst was found to have an environmental footprint that was 87% lower than that of the immobilised one. From the sensitivity analysis, the environmental hotspots of the treatment process were the electricity usage and immobilised catalyst production. Therefore, alternative scenarios investigating the use of a renewable electricity mix and recyclable materials were explored to enhance the environmental performance of the photocatalytic treatment process. Using a renewable electricity mix, a decrease of 55% and 15% for the suspended and immobilised catalyst, respectively, was observed. Additionally, the process of recycling the glass used to support the immobilised catalyst achieved a maximum reduction of 22% in the environmental impact from the original scenario, with 100 glass reuses appearing to provide diminishing returns on the environmental impact savings. The impact of soil fertilization with animal manure on the spread and persistence of antibiotic resistance in the environment is far from being fully understood. To add knowledge about persistence and correlations between antibiotic residues and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in fertilized soil, a longitudinal soil mesocosm study was conducted. Soil samples were collected from the mesocosms immediately before spreading and then afterward at fifteen time points during a 320-day observation period. Eight ARGs (ermB, sul1, tetA, tetG, tetM, cfr, fexA, and optrA) and the class 1 integron-integrase gene, intI1, were determined in both pig slurry and soil, as well as residues of 36 antibiotics. Soil chemical and biochemical parameters were also measured. Twelve antibiotics were detected in the slurry in the range of 3 µg kg−1–3605 µg kg−1, with doxycycline, lincomycin, and tiamulin being the most abundant, whereas ermB, sul1, and tetM were the predominant ARGs. Before spreading, neither antibiotic residues nor ARGs were detectable in the soil; afterwards, their concentrations mirrored those in the slurry, with a gradual decline over the duration of the experiment. For technical application with continuous operation of sorption-enhanced (SE) reactions, e.g., Fischer–Tropsch, a special reactor concept is required. SE processes are promising due to the negative effects of water on conversion and catalyst. The reactor concept of two interconnected slurry bubble columns combines the reaction with in situ water removal in the first, and sorbent regeneration in the second column with continuous exchange of slurry between the two. The liquid circulation rate (LCR) between the columns is studied in a cold flow model, measured by an ultrasonic sensor. The effects of different operating and geometric parameters, e.g., superficial gas velocity, liquid level and tube diameter on gas holdup and LCR are discussed and modelled via artificial intelligence methods, i.e., extremely randomized trees and neural networks. It was found that the LCR strongly depends on the gas holdup. The maximum of 4.28 L min−1 was reached with the highest exit, widest tube and highest superficial gas velocity of 0.15 m s−1. The influence of liquid level above the exit was marginal but water quality has to be considered. Both models offer predictions of the LCR with errors < 6%. The solid volume fraction of a slurry requiring solid–liquid separation often fluctuates in industrial cake filtration processes. For low solid volume fractions, particle segregation arises, resulting in an inhomogeneous filter cake structure. Particle segregation has significant impacts on cake formation such as a longer cake formation time compared to homogeneous cakes. This work addresses the impact of this effect on vibration compaction, which is an alternative deliquoring method applying oscillatory shears to the filter cake. The dewatering results of homogeneous and segregated cakes made of the same material with a broad particle size distribution are compared. Although cake deliquoring is achievable despite particle segregation, vibration compaction is more effective for homogeneous cakes. The reason is that no particle size homogenization within segregated cakes occurs due to oscillatory shear, as particle size analyses indicate. The particle size measurements of cakes before and after vibration compaction reveal that the material's particle size distribution is preserved despite vibration application. Vibration compaction achieves higher deliquoring than the common compaction method by squeezing, as elastic recovery effects after squeezing lead to the reabsorbing of liquid, already expressed and stored in the filter cloth. The promotion and use of liquid feeding face the challenge of insufficiently stable delivery. This issue can be resolved, in part, by using the spiral flow produced by a spiral pipe (SPP). The aim of this study is to investigate how the structural characteristics of the spiral pipe affect the flow state of the liquid feed, and for this purpose, the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique has been employed and the liquid feed delivery process has been simulated by means of an Eulerian two-fluid model The results reveal a significant improvement in the slurry's homogeneity as it traveled through a spiral pipe compared with a straight pipe (STP). The swirl number normally increased with the number, length, height, and angle of the spiral pipe's guide vanes. The solid-phase distribution was more homogeneous when values of N = 1, L = 1D, H = 3/8R, and θ = 20° were used, respectively, and the COV within 10D downstream of the outlet of the spiral pipe was 3.902% smaller than that of the straight pipe. In order to investigate the diffusion mechanism of slurry in post-pile grouting, this study develops a formula for calculating the diameter and the climb height of the cement core of jet grouting (CCJG). This research conducts field orthogonal tests using a self-developed grouting nozzle to analyze the effects of disturbance pressure (DP), disturbance time (DT), grouting pressure (GP), and the water–cement ratio (W/C) on the dimensions and strength of the CCJG. The findings revealed that the theoretical formula for calculating the diameter of the CCJG deviates by approximately 8% from the field test results, confirming the formula's validity. In addition, the DP and DT significantly influence the volume of the CCJG, displaying a linear increase with their augmentation. Conversely, the W/C and DP predominantly affect the CCJG's strength. Notably, an increase in the W/C results in diminished strength, whereas an increase in the DP enhances it. In addition, soil reinforcement is achieved through replacement, mixing, and compaction as the grout flows outward from the center of the grouting hole. Kaolinite is able to assure the high binding affinity of the filler particles of raw ceramic bodies. It acts as a matrix that strongly holds the other constituents' particles in a compact structure. The slurry samples were characterized by XRD, mineralogical microscopy and SEM coupled with an EDX elemental analysis. The slurry collected from the ceramic tile production wastewaters had a significant amount of kaolinite (36%), mostly fine particles of 3 µm, less surrounding quartz (37%) and mullite (19%) particles of 5–100 µm in diameter and traces of lepidocrocite (8%). It is a dense paste with a relative moisture of 25%. The square bar of the slurry as received, pressed at a load of 350 N, had a flexural strength of 0.61 MPa. Increasing the moisture to 33% using regular water, followed by mechanical attrition at 2000 rpm for 5 min, resulted in a porous bar with a flexural strength of 0.09 MPa; by increasing the attrition speed to 6000 rpm, the microstructural homogenization was improved and the flexural strength was about 0.68 MPa. It seems that regular water does not assure an optimal moisture for the kaolinite matrix conditioning. Therefore, we used technological water at pH = 10, a moisture of 33% and attrition at 6000 rpm for 5 min, and the bar pressed at a load of 350 N had a flexural strength of 1.17 MPa. The results demonstrate that the bar moistened with technological water and an attrition regime assured a proper conditioning for the kaolinite matrix, achieving the optimal binding of the quartz and mullite particles under the pressing load. Bars with the optimal mixture were pressed at several loads, including 70, 140, 210 and 350 N, and the flexural strength was progressively increased from 0.56 MPa to 1.17 MPa. SEM fractography coupled with atomic force microscopy (AFM) revealed that the optimal moisture facilitated a proper kaolinite particle disposal regarding the quartz and mullite filler particles, and the progressive load assured the strong binding of the finest kaolinite platelets onto their surface. To guarantee that the cement sheath has a sealing effect, it is best to replace the drilling fluid entirely and fill the annulus with cement slurry throughout the cementing process. A significant driving power and high stability at the interface between the cement slurry and drilling fluid are often necessary for achieving a high displacement efficiency. It is important that a comprehensive theoretical characterization is established on the thickness and location of drilling fluid retention and the conditions to prevent the formation of drilling fluid retention. In this study, firstly, the characteristics of annulus fluid shear stress distribution are analyzed by establishing the differential equation of shear stress distribution. Subsequently, the calculation model of the drilling fluid retention layer's thickness is constructed. Subsequently, the impact of cement slurry and drilling fluid properties, eccentricity of the casing, and additional variables on the annular wall's drilling fluid retention thickness are scrutinized. The quantitative conditions for preventing drilling fluid retention are also analyzed (i.e., Equation (23)). In the domain of deep-sea buoyancy material applications, hollow ceramic spheres, known for their high strength and low mass-to-drainage ratio, contribute to increased buoyancy and payload capacity enhancement for deep submersibles, constituting buoyancy materials of exceptional overall performance. This study entails the brazing of two ceramic hemispherical shells, obtained through slurry molding, to form a ceramic float. This process, which integrates slurry molding and ceramic brazing, facilitates buoyancy provision. Further refinement involves welding a ceramic connector onto the ceramic shell, incorporating a top opening to create a ceramic float equipped with an observation window seat. The ceramic float maintains uniform wall thickness, while the observation window facilitates external environmental observation in deep-sea research. Two pressure-resistant spherical shells, produced using this process, underwent testing, revealing the wall thickness of the prepared alumina ceramic hollow spheres to be 1.00 mm, with a mass-to-drainage ratio of 0.47 g/cm3 and a buoyancy coefficient of 53%. The resultant ceramic hollow floating ball can withstand hydrostatic pressure of 120 MPa, while the pressure-resistant ball shell with an observation window seat can endure hydrostatic pressure of 100 MPa, ensuring safe operation at depths of 5000–6000 m. Working fluids that incorporate solid microencapsulated phase change materials (MPCMs) can benefit from properties such as density and viscosity, which are crucial for improving heat capacity and transfer. However, limited data are available on these parameters for specific slurry and mass ratios. In this study, we present a comparative analysis of the experimental results on the viscosity of three different MPCM aqueous dispersions, namely MPCM 31-S50, MPCM 25-S50, and Micronal 5428X. Varying MPCM mass ratios of distilled water were used to obtain different mass concentrations of the phase change material (PCM), and the resulting slurries were analysed at temperatures ranging from 15 to 40 °C. Our findings showed that all slurries exhibited non-Newtonian characteristics at low shear rates, with viscosity stabilising at higher shear rates, resulting in the characteristics of a Newtonian fluid. The viscosity results were highly dependent on the type of MPCM base dispersion, particularly at high mass ratios, with the slurries having viscosities higher than those of water. Furthermore, we conducted density experiments as a function of temperature, using a flow test setup and a Coriolis flowmeter (Endress+Hauser, Reinach, Switzerland) to determine the density of two MPCMs, namely MPCM 25-S50 and Micronal 5428X. The test samples were prepared at mass concentrations of 10%, 15%, and 20% of the phase change material. We found significant differences in density and viscosity for different MPCM slurries as a result of both the PCM concentration and the material studied. Our results also revealed an apparent PCM phase change process, in which the slurry density significantly decreased in the temperature range of the phase transition from solid to liquid. Ceramisite lightweight concrete has excellent performance and relatively light self-weight characteristics. At the same time, the recent development of green high-performance concrete and prefabricated components has also brought the abundant utilization of these mineral mixture. An interfacial transition zone exists between the hardened cement paste and the aggregate, which is the weakest part of the concrete, characterized by high porosity and low strength. In order to study the effect of slag content on the interfacial transition zone in lightweight high-strength concrete, experiments were designed to replace cement with slag at different contents (0%, 5%, 10%, 15%). A series of studies was conducted on its macro-strength, microstructure, and composition. The results indicated that the addition of slag improved the porosity and width of the interfacial transition zone. Adding slag did not reduce the thickness of the concrete interfacial transition zone significantly at 3 d, but it led to significant improvement in the thickness of the interfacial transition zone at 28 d, and the thickness of the interfacial zone at 28 d was reduced from 19 μm to 8.5 μm, a reduction of 55%. The minimum value of microhardness in the slurry region of the interfacial specimens also increased from 19 MPa to 26 MPa, an increase of 36%. In addition, the structural density of the interfacial region was further increased, resulting in varying degrees of improvement in the macroscopic anti-splitting strength. One of the important reasons for this phenomenon is that the addition of slag optimizes the chemical composition of the interface and promotes the continuation of the pozzolanic reactivity, which further enhances the hydration at the interface edge. The flowability and mechanical properties are increasingly crucial in the filling process of deep metal mines with mining depths exceeding 1000 m. The rheological properties of filling slurry in the pipeline were analyzed through rheological tests, L-tube self-flow tests, and semi-industrial loop tests. The results revealed that with an increase in the cement-to-tailings mass ratio (c/t ratio) and mass concentration, the slurry exhibited a higher flow resistance and decreased stowing gradient. During slurry transportation, the pressure loss in the straight pipe was positively correlated with the slurry flow rate, c/t ratio, and mass concentration. A uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) test was conducted to analyze the mechanical properties of the cemented paste backfill containing BMC (CCPB) in both standard and deep-underground curing environments. The UCS of the CCPB showed an increasing trend with the rise in curing age, mass concentration, and the c/t ratio. The comprehensive analysis concluded that when the c/t ratio is 1:4, and the mass concentration is approximately 74%, and parameters such as the slump, bleeding rate, and flowability of the filling slurry meet the criteria for conveying and goaf filling, resulting in a high-strength filling body. The production of flue gas desulfurization gypsum poses a serious threat to the environment. Thus, utilizing gypsum-based self-leveling mortar (GSLM) stands out as a promising and effective approach to address the issue. β-hemihydrate gypsum, cement, polycarboxylate superplasticizer, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose ether (HPMC), retarder, and defoamer were used to prepare GSLM. The impact of mineral admixtures (steel slag (SS), silica fume (SF), and fly ash (FA)) on the physical, mechanical, and microstructural properties of GSLM was examined through hydration heat, X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses. The GSLM benchmark mix ratio was determined as follows: 94% of desulfurization building gypsum, 6% of cement, 0.638% each of water reducer and retarder, 0.085% each of HPMC and defoamer (calculated additive ratio relative to gypsum), and 0.54 water-to-cement ratio. Although the initial fluidity decreased in the GSLM slurry with silica fume, there was minimal change in 30 min fluidity. Notably, at an SS content of 16%, the GSLM exhibited optimal flexural strength (6.6 MPa) and compressive strength (20.4 MPa). Hydration heat, XRD, and Raman analyses revealed that a small portion of SS actively participated in the hydration reaction, while the remaining SS served as a filler. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Featured Application: The research presented by the authors in this article points to the need for changes in the construction of agricultural biogas plants to optimise electricity production. Energy from biogas is widely available, inexpensive, and often contributes to waste management, making it one of the most promising renewable energy sources. The main factors influencing this process' efficiency include the substrates' chemical composition, temperature, and digester load. This paper presents the possibilities offered by a biogas plant built at a farm specialising in dairy cows. The dependence of the power generated in the micro biogas plant on its technical parameters was analysed in detail. Studies carried out by the authors in an agricultural microgas plant (with an electrical output of 40 kW) have shown that they are designed to maintain continuous energy production, despite changing process parameters such as digester mass level, biogas height, temperature or slurry flow into the digester. However, from the point of view of the amount of electricity generated, changes would have to be made to the design of the biogas plant. Firstly, a more powerful generator would have to be installed to cover the electricity requirements of the equipment installed in the biogas plant so that power close to the rated capacity of the biogas plant is still sent to the grid. Secondly, replacing the two existing agitators of the digestion mass (9 kW each) with more agitators of lower power (e.g., four agitators of 4.5 kW each) would be necessary. The challenge of mixing high-viscosity materials is a common issue encountered in the manufacturing process of food materials. The advantages of the internal meshing screw mixer have led to its adoption in various manufacturing processes, but it has yet to be implemented in the food industry. The paper presents a design method for an internal meshing screw mixer based on kinematic principles. The mixer features a helical chamber created by alternating volumes formed by the stator and rotor, establishing an extension-dominated environment for mixing high-viscosity fluids. A kinematic model based on the internal cycloid principle was established, providing trajectories and equations for key points on the rotor, simulating both its rotation and revolution processes, and revealing the velocity variations at different points on the rotor. Based on the kinematic analysis results, a stator and rotor design method was developed according to relevant functional divisions. To achieve the desired motion effects, transmission and support devices were designed, and the relationship between the transmission device and the internal cycloid surface of the fixed rotor was established. The mixer's application and mixing effectiveness in the food industry were validated using corn syrup and flour. Experimental results showed that the extensional mixer described in the paper effectively mixed high-viscosity fluids while also efficiently blending fine powders. Slurry viscosity was tested with a rheometer at different speeds with an eccentric rotor mixer. Results showed that viscosity decreased with increasing shear rate, with a more pronounced decrease at higher shear rates. The apparent viscosity trend remained consistent at different speeds, although variations were observed at lower shear rates, especially concerning speed. The non-Newtonian fluid index exhibited minimal variations at different speeds, while the consistency coefficient showed significant fluctuations. The mixing uniformity index of the slurry was used to evaluate the mixing uniformity and dispersion uniformity of this extensional mixer. At different rotational speeds, the density of the slurry changes little. The uniformity index of mixing decreases gradually with the increase of rotational speed, reaching its maximum at 15 r/min. The overall trend of the uniformity index decreases with increasing rotational speed, indicating a decrease in density uniformity. A peak appears at 45 r/min, possibly due to the maximum values of elongation rate and shear rate at this speed. As the rotational speed increases, the residence time of the material in the mixer decreases, which may be the main reason for the decrease in mixing uniformity. During shield construction in underground spaces, synchronous grouting slurry is poured between the surrounding rock and tunnel lining to ensure stability. For synchronous grouting slurries, few studies have investigated the relationship between the rheological parameters and physical properties, grout-segregation mechanism, and anti-segregation performance. Therefore, we explored the relationships between the slurry rheological parameters, segregation rate, and bleeding rate. Cement, sand, fly ash, and bentonite were used to prepare the slurry, and the effects of different polycarboxylate water-reducing agents and dispersible latex powder dosages were studied. The rheological parameters of 16 groups of uniformly designed slurries were tested, and the data were fit using the Herschel–Bulkley model. The optimal mix ratio lowered the slurry segregation rate, and its rheological behaviour was consistent with the Herschel–Bulkley fluid characteristics. High-yield-shear-stress synchronous grouting slurries with high and low viscosity coefficients were less likely to bleed and segregate, respectively. The optimised slurry fluidity, 3 h bleeding rate, 24 h bleeding rate, segregation rate, coagulation time, and 28 days compressive strength were 257.5 mm, 0.71%, 0.36%, 3.1%, 6.7 h, and 2.61 MPa, respectively, which meet the requirements of a synchronous grouting slurry of shield tunnels for sufficiently preventing soil disturbance and deformation in areas surrounding underground construction sites. CeO2 is widely used in the field of chemical–mechanical polishing for integrated circuits. Morphology, particle size, crystallinity, and Ce3+ concentration are crucial factors that affect polishing performance. In this study, we successfully synthesized two novel triangular CeO2 abrasives with similar particle sizes (600 nm) but different morphologies and Ce3+ concentrations using a microwave-assisted hydrothermal method with high-concentration raw materials, and no surfactants or template agents were added. It is generally believed that CeO2 with a higher Ce3+ concentration leads to better polishing performance. However, the results of polishing indicate that CeO2 synthesized at 200 °C, despite its lower Ce3+ concentration, demonstrates outstanding polishing performance, achieving a polishing rate of 324 nm/min, and the Sa of Si wafers decreased by 3.6% after polishing. This suggests that, under similar particle size conditions, the morphology of CeO2 plays a dominant role in the mechanical effects during the polishing process. Additionally, compared to commercial polishing slurries, the synthesized samples demonstrated better polishing performance. This indicates that, in CMP, the pursuit of smaller spherical abrasives may not be necessary. In order to address the issue of hole collapse, which frequently arises when boring piles are being constructed in intricate marine strata, this paper discusses the influence of the slurry ratio on the slurry performance as well as the mechanism of slurry wall protection. It performs this by means of theoretical analysis, laboratory ratio testing, engineering analogies, numerical simulation, and field testing. Our findings demonstrate that adding sodium polyacrylate and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose can enhance mud's viscosity, contribute to flocculation, and improve the connection between mud and soil layers. Refering similar engineering cases, three optimization schemes are proposed for achieving a mud ratio that offers wall protection in complex marine strata. Furthermore, the particle flow model of slurry viscous fluid is established. The collapse of holes in the sand layer is reflected in the uneven radial displacement of hole walls and the invasion of mud particles. Increasing the viscosity of mud gradually transforms the uneven radial deformation of pore walls in the sand layer into a uniform radial deformation, whereas increasing the proportion of mud significantly decreases the radial displacement of hole walls. Additionally, when the mud pressure in the hole is 300 kPa and 600 kPa, the wall protection effect is better, and there is no particle penetration by substances such as sand. It is found that a high mud pressure can promote the diffusion of mud particles into the sand layer, while low mud pressure cannot balance the pressure on deep soil. The results of the field tests show that the ratio of water–clay–bentonite–CMC-Na–sodium carbonate = 700:110:90:1.5:0.5 used (where the mass percentage of each material is 77.8% water, 12.2% clay, 10% bentonite, 0.16% CMC-Na, and 0.05% sodium carbonate) can effectively prevent hole collapse and reduce the thickness of the sand layer at the bottom of the hole by 50%. Ultrasonic treatment has been widely used in the mineral flotation process due to its advantages in terms of operational simplicity, no secondary pollutant formation, and safety. Currently, many studies have reported the effect of ultrasonic treatment on mineral flotation and shown excellent flotation performance. In this review, the ultrasonic mechanisms are classified into three types: the transient cavitation effect, stable cavitation effect, and acoustic radiation force effect. The effect of the main ultrasonic parameters, including ultrasonic power and ultrasonic frequency, on mineral flotation are discussed. This review highlights the uses of the application of ultrasonic treatment in minerals (such as the cleaning effect, ultrasonic corrosion, and desulfuration), flotation agents (such as dispersion and emulsification and change in properties and microstructure of pharmaceutical solution), and slurry (such formation of microbubbles and coalescence). Additionally, this review discusses the challenges and prospects of using ultrasonic approaches for mineral flotation. The findings demonstrate that the application of the ultrasonic effect yields diverse impacts on flotation, thereby enabling the regulation of flotation behavior through various treatment methods to enhance flotation indices and achieve the desired objectives. There is a huge reservation of loess in the Shanxi mining area in China, which has great potential for preparing supplementary cementitious materials. Loess was modified via mechanical and thermal activation, and the pozzolanic activity was evaluated using an Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer (ICP-OES). Moreover, the workability of grouting materials prepared using modified loess was assessed. The experimental results revealed that the number of ultrafine particles gradually increased with the grinding time, enhancing the grouting performance. The coordination number of Al decreased upon the breakage of the Al–O–Si bond post-calcination at 400 °C, 550 °C, 700 °C, and 850 °C. Moreover, the breaking of the Si–O covalent bond produced Si-phases, and the pozzolanic activity of loess increased. Furthermore, the modified loess was hydrated with different cement proportions. With increasing grinding time, the overall setting time increased until the longest time of 14.5 h and the fluidity of the slurry decreased until the lowest fluidity of 9.7 cm. However, the fluidity and setting time decreased with increasing calcination temperature. The lowest values were 12.03 cm and 10.05 h. With the increase in pozzolanic activity, more ettringite was produced via hydration, which enhanced the mechanical properties. The maximum strength of the hydrated loess after grinding for 20 min reached 16.5 MPa. The strength of the hydrated loess calcined at 850 °C reached 21 MPa. Coal gangue, the primary solid waste generated during the coal mining process, is typically disposed of on the surface, where it gradually accumulates to form gangue piles that significantly contaminate the surrounding environment. Filling technology has been widely employed for the safe and efficient disposal of coal gangue due to its sustainability, safety, and efficiency. However, there is still a lack of theoretical research on the concentration of gangue slurry in long-distance filling pipeline transportation. Therefore, a calculation model of the ultra-long-distance transportable concentration of coal gangue slurry with different grades was constructed based on the static anti-segregation performance and Bingham model. In addition, the relevant parameters of the calculation model of the ultra-long-distance transportable concentration of coal gangue slurry in this mine were determined using the 8 km pipeline transport of coal gangue slurry in one mine as the technical background. It was subsequently demonstrated that the yield stress, plastic viscosity, and mass concentration of the various grades of gangue slurry in this mine exhibit an increasing exponential function, while the slurry density and mass concentration exhibit an increasing linear function, and the mass concentration and actual flow rate correspond to a quadratic polynomial increment. Finally, the minimum and maximum concentrations for different grades of gangue slurry that can be transported over long distances in this mine were determined. Traditional model tests for soil and rock materials face challenges in observing the slurry diffusion within the soil mass, hindering the understanding of the relationship between grouting-induced ground deformation and grout diffusion. This study conducts grouting diffusion model tests using a self-developed experimental setup on both ordinary and transparent sand. We investigate cement slurry diffusion patterns, distribution characteristics, and temporal variations in ground uplift displacement during the grouting process. By leveraging a visualization grouting model and non-intrusive displacement measurements, we directly observe and verify the changes in cement slurry diffusion and ground displacement in transparent sand. The results indicate the following: during non-steady grouting in sand, slurry diffusion progresses from low-pressure infiltration to medium-pressure compaction, culminating in high-pressure fracturing; ground uplift displacement curves exhibit a consistent "step-like" increase with grouting time, featuring accelerated growth after each step; and visualization tests reveal a strong correlation between grouting pressure, slurry diffusion, and corresponding uplift displacement. Distinct features in the grouting pressure plot align with the acceleration phases of the displacement; at a water–cement ratio (w/c) of 0.8, the stratum's vertical deformation shows a symmetric "higher in the middle, lower on the sides" distribution. As the burial depth decreases, the stratum's uplift displacement tends to flatten horizontally, especially at w/c = 0.8 and 1.2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cementing is a critical link in oil and gas exploitation, in which slurry density control is particularly important. In this study, we examined a slurry mixing control system in order to solve the problem of time delays in the mixing system. The model of a slurry mixing system was built in accordance with the system's structure. A Smith fuzzy PID (proportion integration differentiation) composite control solution is proposed herein, and the simulation results show that the adjustment time and overshoot are lower than those of the conventional PID control and Smith predictive compensation control. A genetic algorithm is utilized to optimize the quantization factor and scale factor of the Smith fuzzy PID controller. Following optimization, the rise time of the controller was found to be 0.45 s, which represents a decrease of 35.9%, the overshoot was reduced by 0.4%, and the stabilization time was reduced by 36.6%. Afterward, we built a cementing slurry mixing simulation experimental platform, and experiments were used to verify the feasibility and superiority of the Smith fuzzy PID controller optimized by the genetic algorithm in comparison with the conventional controllers. Quantitative determination of the critical size of an inclined coal pillar in an old goaf water-affected area is of great significance for water damage prevention and safe mining. The critical size of the inclined waterproof coal pillar is derived by using mechanical analyses, numerical calculations, and field engineering practices to determine the stability of the waterproof coal pillar in the old goaf water-affected area of the 1303 working face of Dananhu No. 1 Mine in the Xinjiang region. Firstly, a force model of the inclined waterproof coal pillar was established to reveal the law that the critical size of the coal pillar increases with the increase in coal seam inclination under the action of asymmetric load. Then, numerical simulation was applied to reveal the dynamic evolution processes of plastic deformation–destabilization of the coal pillar under the influence of mining and single-side water pressure, and the critical size of the coal pillar in the study area was determined to be 19.09 m. Finally, measures such as pumping pressure relief and slurry reinforcement were adopted to reduce the deformation rate of the roadway on the side of the coal pillar, which ensured the stability of the waterproof coal pillar and the safe mining of the working face. Screw design in the extrusion process has an important effect on the distribution of material through the extruder, resulting in partially filled sections in the processing zone. Accordingly, the local accumulation of material in the extruder leads to variations in material strain conditions and also influences the local residence time of the material in a given screw section. This work evaluates particle dispersion in anode slurry considering three different screw arrangements. The particle size distribution is considered as a quality parameter representing the microstructure of the battery slurry components and their distribution. Numerical simulation of the material flow behavior through a laboratory extruder was performed to investigate the filling ratios and resulting shear rates for different screw designs and process conditions. To achieve higher crop yields and maintain environmental conservation, it is imperative to adopt novel agricultural methods that improve both the quantity and quality of produce. The following study focused on investigating the effectiveness of integrated use of biogas slurry and inorganic nutrigation on spinach growth and nutrient uptake through drip irrigation. A field experiment was conducted using a split-plot design; spinach was cultivated with seven different treatments: biogas slurry nutrigation (BSN) (T1), integrated inorganic + organic nutrigation: 40% Recommended dose of fertilizer (RDF) + BSN (T2), 60% RDF + BSN (T3), 80% RDF + BSN (T4), 100% RDF (T5), slurry broadcasting (SB) (T6), and control (T7). The results showed that spinach grown with (T4) 80% RDF + BSN exhibited optimum plant height and leaf count compared to spinach under other treatments and was at par with T5 100% RDF for crop parameters. T5 treated plants demonstrated the longest roots, followed by T4 treated plants. The highest recorded yield of 5.72 tons ha−1 was achieved in treatment T5 with 100% RDF, followed closely by T4 with 80% RDF + BSN at 5.52 tons ha−1 and T3 with 60% RDF + BSN at 5.36 tons ha−1. These three treatments exhibited comparable yields, showcasing the effectiveness of incorporating biogas slurry nutrigation in conjunction with inorganic fertilizer for achieving high spinach yields. In terms of macronutrient content in spinach leaves, significant differences were found for nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), and potassium (K) contents. Incorporating biogas slurry into the soil modified microbial enzyme activities, specifically dehydrogenase and phosphatase. Normally, alkaline phosphatase shows greater activity than acidic phosphatase, but the addition of biogas slurry equalized the enzymatic activity of both, establishing a harmonized enzymatic profile. Our results suggest that fertilizing spinach with integrated biogas slurry nutrigation (if properly filtered) + inorganic nutrigation through drip nutrigation is a viable strategy for improving the morphological parameters and productivity of spinach while also contributing to environmental preservation and a reduction in production costs. This study combined inorganic α-hemihydrate gypsum (α-HHG) with organic polyacrylamide (PAM) hydrogel to create a novel α-HHG/PAM composite material. Through this facile composite strategy, this fabricated material exhibited a significantly longer initial setting time and higher mechanical strength compared to α-HHG. The effects of the addition amount and the concentration of PAM precursor solution on the flowability of the α-HHG/PAM composite material slurry, initial setting time, and mechanical properties of the hardened specimens were investigated. The structural characteristics of the composite material were examined using XRD, FE-SEM, and TGA. The results showed that the initial setting time of the α-HHG/PAM composite material was 25.7 min, which is an extension of 127.43% compared to that of α-HHG. The flexural strength and compressive strength of the oven-dried specimens were 23.4 MPa and 58.6 MPa, respectively, representing increases of 34.73% and 84.86% over values for α-HHG. The XRD, FE-SEM, and TGA results all indicated that the hydration of α-HHG in the composite material was incomplete. The incompleteness is caused by the competition between the hydration process of inorganic α-HHG and the gelation process of the acrylamide molecules for water, which hinders some α-HHG from entirely reacting with water. The enhanced mechanical strength of the α-HHG/PAM composite material results from the tight interweaving and integrating of organic and inorganic networks. Antibiotics in animal production are widely used around the world for therapeutic and preventive purposes, and in some countries, they still serve as antibiotic growth stimulants. Regardless of the purpose of using antibiotics in livestock, they may be present in animal tissues and organs as well as in body fluids and excretions (feces and urine). Farm animal excrement in unprocessed form (natural fertilizers) or processed form (organic fertilizers) is applied to agricultural fields because it improves soil fertility. Antibiotics present in fertilizers may therefore contaminate the soil, surface, groundwater, and plants, which may pose a threat to the environment, animals, and humans. Therefore, it is important to develop analytical methods that will allow for the control of the presence of antibacterial substances in natural and organic fertilizers. Therefore, in this study, an LC-MS/MS method was developed and validated for the determination of 21 antibacterial substances in natural and organic liquid fertilizers. The developed method was used to analyze 62 samples of natural and organic liquid fertilizers, showing that over 24% of the tested samples were contaminated with antibiotics, mainly from the group of tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones. Studies of post-fermentation sludge from biogas plants have shown that the processes of anaerobic methane fermentation, pH, and temperature changes taking place in bioreactors do not lead to the complete degradation of antibiotics present in the material used for biogas production. In underground filling mining, freshly prepared cemented gangue-fly ash backfill (CGFB) slurries are typically piped into the gobs. The rheological properties of backfill slurry during pipeline transportation have a direct impact on the transportation characteristics, which in turn affect pipeline blockage and wear. In this paper, the rheological behavior and viscoelastic-plastic properties of CGFB during pipeline transportation are investigated. The effects of different solid content and cement content on resistivity were tested experimentally, and their viscoelasticity and plasticity were analyzed. The results show that with the increase in solid phase content and cement content, the viscosity, yield stress, and energy storage modulus of the materials showed an increasing trend. The viscosity and yield stress of the material both increased, reaching 32.77% and 51.22%, respectively. It was found by the dynamic shear test that in the low-strain region, the material showed a more significant elastic nature of the solid, while in the high-strain region, the viscosity of the material gradually increased. Cement has a substantially lower resistivity than fly ash and gangue, and with the increase in solid concentration, the resistivity of the material shows an increasing trend. With the increase in cement content, the resistivity generally shows a decreasing trend, but it should be noted that the resistivity change trend may tend to stabilize after the cement content exceeds 12%. The study's findings can aid in understanding the rheological properties of CGFB and its viscoelastic-plastic behavior during the underground filling and conveying process, which can provide a reference basis for research and application in related fields. Coal gasification fine slag (CGFS) is a significant source of solid waste requiring improved treatment methods. This study primarily investigates the mechanism of ultrasonic treatment in optimising flotation-based decarbonization of CGFS and its impact on CGFS modified with surfactants. The objective is to maximise the carbon ash separation effect to support the clean and efficient utilisation of CGFS. Flotation experiments revealed optimal conditions at an ultrasonication power of 180 W for 2 min and a slurry concentration of 60 g/L, resulting in a residual ash content of 82.59%. Particle size analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Brunner−Emmet−Teller (BET) measurements demonstrate the efficacy of ultrasound in extracting inorganic minerals from the surface and pores of residual carbon, consequently reducing both pore and particle sizes. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) analyses indicate alterations in the surface chemistry of CGFS induced by ultrasound treatment. The content of hydrophilic groups decreased from 31.64% to 29.88%, whereas the COO- group content decreased from 13.13% to 8.43%, consequently enhancing hydrophobicity. Adsorption experiments demonstrate an increase in surfactant adsorption capacity following ultrasonic treatment. Furthermore, ultrasonic treatment facilitates the desorption of surfactants previously adsorbed onto the surfaces of CGFS residue. Therefore, optimal flotation is obtained by applying ultrasonic pretreatment to CGFS before adding flotation chemicals.
