The fragmented remodeling of historic districts undermines the spirit of place. Understanding the intricate relationship between the neighborhood environment and the spirit of place is essential for sustainable urban development. Current research predominantly relies on case studies and the concept of place, which are subjective and lack specific analysis of how the neighborhood environment shapes the spirit of place. In this study, we examine Chuancheng Street in Handan City as a case study. Utilizing the eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) model and multi-source data, combined with SHapley Additive exPlanation (SHAP) and Partial Dependence Plots (PDP), we analyze the non-linear and synergistic effects of the street environment on the spirit of place in historic districts. The findings reveal that (1) the proportion of enduring sociability (PES) on the street significantly shapes the spirit of place, with cultural space elements being less prioritized in perception; (2) PES, green vision index (GVI), Integration_800 m, and mixed land use (MLU) have pronounced non-linear impacts on the spirit of place, with strong threshold effects, and these factors also demonstrate a synergistic effect; (3) There are notable spatial variations in the spirit of place across different blocks, particularly influenced by the authenticity of cultural heritage. This study provides fundamental insights into the spirit of place in historic neighborhoods, enabling a better understanding of complex urban dynamics and informing future street regeneration from a place perspective. By numerically solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation, we study high-order harmonic generation from the asymmetric diatomic molecule HeH2+ in a corotating two-color circularly polarized laser field. Our results reveal a strong correlation between the molecule orientation and the harmonic yield. The harmonics in the plateau region can achieve an intensity modulation of one to two orders of magnitude with the change in the orientation angle. Through the time-dependent evolution of ionized electron wave packets combined with the analysis of the transition dipole moment between the continuum and bound states, the modulation of the harmonic strength may be attributed to the difference in the recollision angle of ionized electron wave packets relative to the molecules. In addition, the harmonic ellipticity is also affected by the molecular orientation. Notably, we found that the harmonic with greater ellipticity and higher intensity can be obtained with an orientation angle of 147°. These findings open up new avenues for achieving enhanced efficiency, the near-circular polarization of harmonics, and precise control over harmonic polarization states. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of the efficacy and safety of nusinersen and risdiplam in the treatment of spinal muscular disease (SMA). Methods: We screened the literature published in Pubmed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane before July 2023 to conduct randomized controlled trials to test the treatment of SMA patients with nusinersen and risdiplam. The data were analyzed using Review Manager 5.4 software and Stata version 15.0 software. Results: A total of six randomized controlled trials were included, involving 728 SMA patients, to synthesize evidence. It is reported that nusinersen treatment was beneficial for increasing the score of the Hammersmith Functional Motor Scale—Expanded (HFMSE) (WMD: 4.90; 95% CI: 3.17, 6.63; p < 0.00001), Revised Upper Limb Module (RULM) (WMD: 3.70; 95% CI: 3.30, 4.10; p < 0.00001), and Hammersmith Infant Neurological Evaluation Section 2 (HINE-2) (WMD: 5.21; 95% CI: 4.83, 5.60; p < 0.00001). In addition, the risdiplam treatment group also showed statistically significant improvements in the HFMSE score (WMD:0.87; 95% CI: 0.05, 1.68; p = 0.04), the 32-item Motor Function Measure (MFM32) (WMD:1.48; 95% CI: 0.58, 2.38; p = 0.001), and (WMD: 1.29; 95% CI: 0.57, 2.01; p = 0.0005). Nusinersen and risdiplam did not cause a statistically significant increase in the RULM score for adverse events (OR: 0.93; 95% CI: 0.51, 1.7; p = 0.82) and for severe adverse events (OR: 0.77; 95% CI: 0.47, 1.27; p = 0.31). Conclusion: Our analysis found that nusinersen and risdiplam treatment showed clinically meaningful improvement in motor function and a similar incidence rate of adverse events compared with the placebo. Controlled-release fertilizer is one of the best fertilizer management strategies for improving the yield and nitrogen use efficiency of transplanted seedling rice. Wet direct-seeded rice has gradually replaced transplanted seedling rice since it saves labor. In addition, it is conducive to mechanization promotion. However, the effects of controlled-release fertilizers on wet direct-seeded rice remain largely unknown. A two-year field experiment aimed to compare the effects of controlled-release blended fertilizer at two rates (basal N to tiller N ratio = 7:3 (CRBF+U), CRBF alone), urea at two rates (basal–tiller ratio of 4:6 (U40), 6:4 (U60)) and a control (no N fertilizer) on the ammonia volatilization (AV) loss, nitrogen runoff loss, accumulation, transport, utilization and yield of rice. The nitrogen runoff loss in wet direct-seeded rice paddy fields was concentrated from sowing to the three-leaf and one-leaflet stage, and the loss rat was lowest after CRBF+U (11.41–12.94%). AV loss rate was lowest after CRBF (3.41%), followed by CRBF+U (3.55–3.89%). CRBF+U increased nitrogen accumulation by extending the duration of rapid nitrogen growth and accelerating maximum nitrogen growth. CRBF+U also increased the nitrogen transport rate of stems, sheaths and leaves from full heading to maturity, and intensified the increase in nitrogen in panicles, increasing the harvest index, agronomy utilization rate and apparent utilization rate of nitrogen. Finally, the grain number per panicle, seed-setting rate and actual yield of rice were significantly improved. In conclusion, CRBF+U can reduce nitrogen runoff loss and AV loss and can improve the yield and nitrogen use efficiency of wet direct-seeded rice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Accurately estimating tree biomass is crucial for monitoring and managing forest resources, and understanding regional climate change and material cycles. The additive model system has proven reliable for biomass estimation in Chinese forestry since it considers the inherent correlation among variables based on allometric equations. However, due to the increasing difficulty of obtaining a substantial amount of sample data, estimating parameters for the additive model equations becomes a formidable challenge when working with limited sample sizes. This study primarily focuses on analyzing these parameters using data extracted from a smaller sample. Here, we established two additive biomass model systems using the independent diameter and the combined variable that comprises diameter and tree height. The logarithmic Nonlinear Seemingly Uncorrelated (logarithmic NSUR) method and the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) method were applied to estimate the parameters of these models. By comparing four distinct approaches, the following key results were obtained: (1) Both the GMM and logarithmic NSUR methods can yield satisfactory goodness of fit and estimation precision for the additive biomass equations, with the root mean square error (RMSE) were significantly low, and coefficients of determination (R2) were mostly higher than 0.9. (2) Comparatively, examining the fitted curves of predicted values, the GMM method provided better fitting than the NSUR method. Based on the strong field approximation theory and numerical solution of Maxwell's propagation equations, the high–order harmonic is generated from a neon (Ne) atom irradiated by a high–intensity laser pulse whose central wavelength is 800 nm. In the harmonic spectrum, it is found that in addition to the odd harmonics of the driving laser, a new frequency peak appeared. By examining the time–dependent behavior of the driving laser, it is found that the symmetry of the laser field is broken. We demonstrated that these new spectrum peaks are caused by the intensity reduction and frequency blue shift of the high–intensity laser during propagation. Our results reveal that it is feasible to modulate the harmonics of the specific energy to produce high–intensity harmonic emission by changing the gas density and the position of the gas medium interacting with the laser pulse. High-order harmonic generation of atoms irradiated by an ultrashort laser pulse was calculated by numerically solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation and the Bohmian trajectory scheme. The harmonic spectra with the two schemes are quantitatively consistent. Using the wavelet behavior of the Bohmian trajectory, the spatio-temporal features of harmonic emission from different energy regions are analyzed. It is found that the spatio-temporal distribution of the harmonic well revealed the physical mechanism of harmonic generation. By using the numerical solution of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation, we theoretically explored the high-order harmonic generation process under the interaction of high-intensity two-color ultrashort driving laser pulses with atoms. The symmetry of the electric field of the laser pulse will be broken. The producing electric field was controlled at the subcycle level by an IR laser and its second harmonic, which has the unique characteristic that two sequential half-cycles become distinct, rather than merely opposite in sign. Compared with the case of the atom in the fundamental laser pulse, the harmonic efficiency showed an increase of 1∼2 orders of magnitude at specific harmonic order with this combined pulse action. Through the theoretical analysis with the "three-step model", it was demonstrated that the enhancement of the harmonic intensity is due to the fast ionization of electrons at the ionization moment and the short time from ionization to recombination of ionized electrons. In addition, effects of the peak field amplitude ratio, the full width at half maximum, the phase delay of the two-color pulses, the laser intensity and ionization probability on the harmonic efficiency enhancement were also investigated. A study by Tsvetkov et al. recently published a proposed novel form of copper-induced cell death in Science; however, few studies have looked into the possible mechanism in soft tissue sarcoma (STS). Herein, this study sought to investigate the function of cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs) in the development of tumor-associated immune cells and the prognosis of sarcoma. Herein, this study aimed to explore the role of cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs) in the development, tumor-associated immune cells, and the prognosis of sarcoma. Methods: The prognostic model was established via the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) algorithm as well as multivariate Cox regression analysis. The stromal scores, immune scores, ESTIMA scores, and tumor purity of sarcoma patients were evaluated by the ESTIMATE algorithm. Functional analyses were performed to investigate the underlying mechanisms of immune cell infiltration and the prognosis of CRGs in sarcoma. Results: Two molecular subgroups with different CRG expression patterns were recognized, which showed that patients with a higher immune score and more active immune status were prone to have better prognostic survival. Moreover, GO and KEGG analyses showed that these differentially expressed CRGs were mainly enriched in metabolic/ions-related signaling pathways, indicating that CRGs may have impacts on the immune cell infiltration and prognosis of sarcoma via regulating the bioprocess of mitochondria and consequently affecting the immune microenvironment. The expression levels of CRGs were closely correlated to the immunity condition and prognostic survival of sarcoma patients. Conclusions: The interaction between cuproptosis and immunity in sarcoma may provide a novel insight into the study of molecular mechanisms and candidate biomarkers for the prognosis, resulting in effective treatments for sarcoma patients. In the process of intense laser–matter interactions, the transition dipole moment is a basic physical quantity at the core, which is directly related to the internal structure of the solid and dominates the optical properties of the solid in the intense laser field. Therefore, the reconstruction of the transition dipole moment between solid energy bands is extremely important for clarifying the ultrafast dynamics of carriers in the strong and ultrashort laser pulse. The interfacial modification of basalt-fiber-reinforced polymer (BFRP) composites is an essential research field and many techniques have been developed to improve the adhesion between basalt fiber (BF) and the matrix. However, most studies were based on the matrixes of general plastics and epoxy resins. In this work, five different chain structures of thermoplastic sizing agents were used to improve the interfacial properties of unidirectional BF-reinforced soluble and high-temperature-resistant poly(phthalazinone ether nitrile ketone) (BF/PPENK) composites. DMA results showed that the poly(ether nitrile) (PEN)-sized BF/PPENK (BF-PEN/PPENK) composite exhibited the optimal interfacial performance, with a storage modulus (E′) and glass transition temperature (Tg) up to 50 GPa and 288 °C, respectively. Moreover, the tensile strength, compressive strength, flexural strength, and interlaminar shear strength of the BF-PEN/PPENK composite reached 778 MPa, 600 MPa, 1115 MPa and 57 MPa, respectively, and increased by 42%, 49%, 20% and 30% compared with the desized BF/PPENK composite. The structure of sedimentary bacterial communities in mangroves depends on environmental factors such as pH, salinity, organic matter content, and metal pollution. To investigate the effect of heavy metal pollution on such communities, core samples of sediments from four sites in three distinct mangrove reserves (Golden Bay Mangrove Reserve in Beihai, Guangxi province (GXJHW), Shankou Mangrove Reserve in Hepu, Guangxi province (GXSK), and MaiPo mangrove in Hong Kong (MPCT and MPFQ)) in South China were analyzed for physicochemical properties, multiple chemical forms of metals, and vertical bacterial diversity. Sedimentary bacterial communities varied greatly among the different sampling sites, with biodiversity decreasing in the order of GXSK, GXJHW, MPFQ, and MPCT. Proteobacteria was the dominant phylum, followed by Chloroflexi, across all four sampling sites. Multivariate statistical analysis of the effect of environmental factors on the sedimentary bacterial communities found that total carbon was the only physicochemical factor with a significant influence at all four sites. The correlations between environmental factors and bacterial structure were weak for the two sites in Guangxi province, but strong at MPCT in Hong Kong where environmental factors were almost all significantly negatively correlated with bacterial diversity. Variance partitioning analysis revealed that physicochemical properties and chemical forms of metals could explain most of the changes in bacterial diversity. Overall, we observed that heavy metal forms were more important than total metal content in influencing the sedimentary bacterial diversity in mangroves, consistent with the more bioavailable metal species having the greatest effect. Oil motion control is the key for the optical performance of electro-fluidic displays (EFD). In this paper, we introduced an extra pinning structure (EPS) into the EFD pixel to control the oil motion inside for the first time. The pinning structure canbe fabricated together with the pixel wall by a one-step lithography process. The effect of the relative location of the EPS in pixels on the oil motion was studied by a series of optoelectronic measurements. EPS showed good control of oil rupture position. The properly located EPS effectively guided the oil contraction direction, significantly accelerated switching on process, and suppressed oil overflow, without declining in aperture ratio. An asymmetrically designed EPS off the diagonal is recommended. This study provides a novel and facile way for oil motion control within an EFD pixel in both direction and timescale. This paper presents a global optimization method for structural design optimization, which integrates subset simulation optimization (SSO) and the dynamic augmented Lagrangian multiplier method (DALMM). The proposed method formulates the structural design optimization as a series of unconstrained optimization sub-problems using DALMM and makes use of SSO to find the global optimum. The combined strategy guarantees that the proposed method can automatically detect active constraints and provide global optimal solutions with finite penalty parameters. The accuracy and robustness of the proposed method are demonstrated by four classical truss sizing problems. Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) are a class of natural toxins with hepatotoxicity, genotoxicity and carcinogenicity. They are endogenous and adulterated toxic components widely found in food and herbal products. In this study, a sensitive and efficient ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method was used to detect the PAs in 386 kinds of Chinese herbal medicines recorded in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2020). The estimated daily intake (EDI) of 0.007 μg/kg body weight (bw)/day was adopted as the safety baseline. The margin of exposure (MOE) approach was applied to evaluate the chronic exposure risk for the genotoxic and carcinogenic potential of PAs. Results showed that PAs was detected in 271 out of 386 samples with a content of 0.1–25,567.4 μg/kg, and there were 20 samples with EDI values above the baseline, 0.007 μg/kg bw/day. Beyond that, the MOE values for 10 out of 271 positive samples were below 10,000. Considering the actual situation, Haber's rule was used to assume two weeks exposure every year during lifetime, and still the MOE values for four out of 271 positive samples were under 10,000, indicating these products may have potential health risk. The developed method was successfully applied to detect the PAs-containing Chinese herbal medicines. With the rapid development of high-throughput sequencing technology, a large number of transcript sequences have been discovered, and how to identify long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) from transcripts is a challenging task. The identification and inclusion of lncRNAs not only can more clearly help us to understand life activities themselves, but can also help humans further explore and study the disease at the molecular level. At present, the detection of lncRNAs mainly includes two forms of calculation and experiment. Due to the limitations of bio sequencing technology and ineluctable errors in sequencing processes, the detection effect of these methods is not very satisfactory. In this paper, we constructed a deep-learning model to effectively distinguish lncRNAs from mRNAs. We used k-mer embedding vectors obtained through training the GloVe algorithm as input features and set up the deep learning framework to include a bidirectional long short-term memory model (BLSTM) layer and a convolutional neural network (CNN) layer with three additional hidden layers. By testing our model, we have found that it obtained the best values of 97.9%, 96.4% and 99.0% in F1score, accuracy and auROC, respectively, which showed better classification performance than the traditional PLEK, CNCI and CPC methods for identifying lncRNAs. We hope that our model will provide effective help in distinguishing mature mRNAs from lncRNAs, and become a potential tool to help humans understand and detect the diseases associated with lncRNAs. Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) are natural toxins found in some genera of the family Asteraceae. However, it has not been reported whether PAs are present in the widely used Asteraceae plant Artemisia capillaris Thunb. (A. capillaris). The purpose of this study was to establish a sensitive and rapid UPLC-MS/MS method together with chemometrics analysis for simultaneous determination and risk assessment of PAs in A. capillaris. The developed UPLC-MS/MS method was validated and was confirmed to display desirable high selectivity, precision and accuracy. Risk assessment was conducted according to the European Medicines Agency (EMA) guideline. Chemometrics analysis was performed with hierarchical clustering analysis and principal component analysis to characterize the differences between PAs of A. capillaris. Finally, PAs were found in 29 out of 30 samples and at least two were detected in each sample, besides, more than half of the samples exceeded the EMA baseline. Nevertheless, the chemometrics results suggested that the PAs contents of A. capillaris from different sources varied significantly. The method was successfully applied to the detection and risk evaluation of PAs-containing A. capillaris for the first time.
