Fusarium solani KMZW-1 is recognized for its potential as a biocontrol agent against agricultural and forestry pests, particularly due to its compatibility with integrated pest management (IPM) strategies. This study aimed to investigate the complete genome of F. solani KMZW-1 and assess its pathogenicity against Bactrocera dorsalis . Whole-genome sequencing revealed a genome size of 47,239,278 bp, comprising 27 contigs, with a GC content of 51.16% and fungus identified as F. solani KMZW-1. The genome completeness was assessed as 97.93% using BUSCO analysis, the DFVF sequence identifier was Fusarium 0G092560.1, and AntiSMASH analysis identified 35 gene clusters associated with secondary metabolite biosynthesis, providing insights into the genetic basis of its pathogenic mechanisms and biocontrol potential. Comparative genomic analysis found 269 unique genes for F. solani KMZW-1, and collinearity analysis exhibited a high degree of synteny with Fusarium solani-melongenae . The pathogenicity of F. solani KMZW-1 was assessed using concentrations ranging from 1 × 10 4 to 1 × 10 11 conidia/mL. Higher concentrations (1 × 10 10 to 1 × 10 11 conidia/mL) resulted in significantly increased cumulative mortality rates of B. dorsalis adults compared to the control group. Notably, the pathogenicity was higher in male adults than in females. Probit analysis yielded LC 50 (50% lethal concentration) values of 5.662 for female and 4.486 for male B. dorsalis adults. In summary, F. solani , KMZW-1 exhibits strong insecticidal activity against B. dorsalis and shows potential as a biocontrol agent with IPM strategies. These findings provide robust genomic evidence supporting the use of F. solani KMZW-1 in managing against B. dorsalis populations.

This paper presents a robust adaptive beamforming algorithm based on an attention convolutional neural network (ACNN) for coprime sensor arrays, named the CAWE-ACNN algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, via a spatial and channel attention unit, an ACNN model is constructed to enhance the features contributing to beamforming weight vector estimation and to improve the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) performance, respectively. Then, an interference-plus-noise covariance matrix reconstruction algorithm is used to obtain an appropriate label for the proposed ACNN model. By the calculated label and the sample signals received from the coprime sensor arrays, the ACNN is well-trained and capable of accurately and efficiently outputting the beamforming weight vector. The simulation results verify that the proposed algorithm achieves excellent SINR performance and high computation efficiency.

MicroRNA482 (miR482) is a conserved microRNA family in plants, playing critical regulatory roles in different biological activities. Though the members of the miR482 gene family have been identified in plants, a systematic study has not been reported yet. In the present research, 140 mature sequences generated by 106 precursors were used for molecular characterization, phylogenetic analysis, and target gene prediction, and the competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network mediated by miR482 was summarized. The length of mature sequences ranged from 17 nt to 25 nt, with 22 nt being the most abundant, and the start and end of the mature sequences had a preference for uracil (U). By sequence multiplex comparison, it was found that the mature sequences of 5p were clustered into one group, and others were clustered into the other group. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the 140 mature sequences were categorized into six groups. Meanwhile, all the precursor sequences formed a stable hairpin structure, and the 106 precursors were divided into five groups. However, the expression of miR482 varied significantly between different species and tissues. In total, 149 target genes were predicted and their functions focused on single-organism process, cellular process, and cell and cell part. The ceRNA network of miR482 in tomato, cotton, and peanut was summarized based on related publications. In conclusion, this research will provide a foundation for further understanding of the miR482 gene family.

Bamboo is composed of thick-walled fibrous tissue and thin-walled parenchymal tissue. To compare the energy consumption of preparing lignocellulose nanofibrils (LCNF) from these bamboo tissues, the crystallinity, sol. viscosity, morphology and mechanical properties of LCNF at different preparation stages were characterized in detail. It required at least nine homogenization cycles for dissociating the fibrous tissue, but only six cycles for the parenchymal tissue. The average diameter of LCNF isolated from fibrous and parenchymal tissues was 45.1 nm and 36.2 nm, respectively. The tensile strength of the LCNF film prepared from parenchymal tissue reached 142.46 MPa, whereas the film from fibrous tissue reached only 122.82 MPa. Additionally, a metal organic framework (MOF) was used to produce MOF-LCNF film with enhanced UV protection and antibacterial properties. The results indicated that the energy consumption for preparing LCNF from parenchymal tissue is significantly lower than that for preparing LCNF from fibrous tissue. This study offers a low-cost and eco-friendly method for preparing LCNF, promoting the precise utilization of different tissues from bamboo based on their unique characteristics.

Polyphenols are the most prevalent naturally occurring phytochemicals in the human diet and range in complexity from simple molecules to high-molecular-weight polymers. They have a broad range of chemical structures and are generally categorized as "neuroprotective", "anti-inflammatory", and "antioxidant" given their main function of halting disease onset and promoting health. Research has shown that some polyphenols and their metabolites can penetrate the blood-brain barrier and hence increase neuroprotective signaling and neurohormonal effects to provide anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Therefore, multi-targeted modulation of polyphenols may prevent the progression of neuropsychiatric disorders and provide a new practical therapeutic strategy for difficult-to-treat neuropsychiatric disorders. Therefore, multi-target modulation of polyphenols has the potential to prevent the progression of neuropsychiatric disorders and provide a new practical therapeutic strategy for such nervous system diseases. Herein, we review the therapeutic benefits of polyphenols on autism-spectrum disorders, anxiety disorders, depression, and sleep disorders, along with in vitro and ex vivo experimental and clinical trials. Although their methods of action are still under investigation, polyphenols are still seldom employed directly as therapeutic agents for nervous system disorders. In this study, a highly efficient magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer nanocomposite material was prepared using multi-walled carbon nanotubes as carriers. The characterization of the obtained nanocomposite material was conducted using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, a vibrating sample magnetometer, a thermogravimetric analyzer, a scanning electron microscope, and a transmission electron microscope. The adsorption properties of the nanocomposite material were evaluated through adsorption experiments, including static adsorption, dynamic adsorption, and selective recognition studies. The prepared nanocomposite material, serving as a selective adsorbent, was applied in magnetic solid-phase extraction. Subsequently, the derivatized samples were analyzed for glucose in fish serum using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Under optimal conditions, the detection limit was 0.30 ng/mL, the quantitation limit was 0.99 ng/mL, satisfactory spiked recovery rates were obtained, and the relative standard deviation was less than 1.1%. Using 2-deoxy-D-ribose as the template molecule and a structural analog of glucose allowed us to eliminate the potential template leakage in qualitative and quantitative analyses, effectively avoiding the issues of false positives and potential quantitative errors, compared to traditional methods. A method for detecting glucose levels in fish serum based on molecularly imprinted polymer technology has been successfully developed to determine the stress and health levels of fish.

Soil conservation is one of the best methods to improve soil fertility and enhance crop growth efficiency. Replacing plastic mulch with biomass is an environmentally friendly strategy. Innovative encapsulated soil granules (ESGs) were developed using PVA/PC film as the wall material and rural soil as the core. The PVA/PC was synthesized using 60% protein polypeptide (PC) from leather waste scrap and 35% poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA), which was optimized for water absorption expansion and water retention performance. The ESG-10 granulated with 10% PVA/PC exhibited good water absorption, moisture retention, and resistance to water solubility. As an auxiliary material for soil improvement, the amount of ESGs mixed with the topsoil at ratios of 0 g/m 2 , 200 g/m 2 , and 400 g/m 2 was proportional to the soil insulation and moisture retention. In rapeseed cultivation, the experimental results indicated that the soil mulched with ESG-10 can maintain seedling vitality for a long time under low water content conditions.

This study investigated the effects of different adhesives, phenol formaldehyde (PF) and melamine urea formaldehyde (MUF), on the mechanical and fire properties of flame-retardant laminated bamboo lumber (LBL). The results demonstrated that the flame-retardant treatment using phosphorus-nitrogen-boron compounds endowed the LBL with excellent flame retardancy and smoke suppression properties, even though the bending strength and bond shear strength were slightly reduced. The PF-glued LBL exhibited superior mechanical and shear properties to the MUF-glued ones, primarily due to its higher processing temperature and deeper adhesive penetration. In addition, the MUF-glued flame-retardant LBL displayed better heat release reduction and smoke suppression properties than the PF-glued LBL, which resulted from the synergistic flame retardancy between the melamine element in MUF and the applied flame retardant. The analysis of the influence of adhesive type on the mechanical and fire properties of flame-retardant LBL holds significant importance for the future design and production of high-performance LBL material.

Polysiloxane with multiple acryloxyl groups at the terminal site of the polymer chain was synthesized by the condensation reaction between hydroxyl-terminated polysiloxane and acryloyl chloride and used to improve the cross-linking density of UV-curable silicone materials initiated from dual acryloxy-terminated symmetric polysiloxane or single acryloxy-terminated asymmetric polysiloxane with the mixture of Irgacure 1173 and Irgacure 184 at a mass ratio of 1:1 as the photoinitiator. The effects of factors such as initiator composition, UV irradiation time, structure, and molecular weight of linear dual acryloxy-terminated or single acryloxy-terminated asymmetric siloxane oligomers on the gelation yield, thermal properties, water absorption, and water contact angle of UV-cured film were investigated. The synthesized cross-linking density modifier can be copolymerized with acryloxy-functionalized linear polysiloxanes under the action of a photoinitiator to increase the cross-link density of UV-cured products effectively. Both linear dual acryloxy-terminated or single acryloxy-terminated asymmetric siloxane oligomers can be copolymerized with cross-link density modifiers within 20 s of UV irradiation. The gelation yields of the UV-cured products obtained from the dual acryloxy-terminated siloxane oligomers were greater than 85%, and their surface water contact angles increased from 72.8° to 95.9° as the molecular weight of the oligomers increased. The gelation yields of UV-cured products obtained from single acryloxy-terminated asymmetric siloxane oligomers were less than 80%, and their thermal stabilities were inferior to those obtained from the dual acryloxy-terminated siloxane oligomers. However, the water contact angles of UV-cured products obtained from these single acryloxy-terminated asymmetric siloxane oligomers were all greater than 90°.

Light and temperature are key factors influencing the accumulation of anthocyanin in fruit crops. To assess the effects of fruit bagging during development and high post-ripening temperature on 'Hongyang' kiwifruit, we compared the pigmentation phenotypes and expression levels of anthocyanin-related genes between bagged and unbagged treatments, and between 25 °C and 37 °C postharvest storage temperatures. Both the bagging and 25 °C treatments showed better pigmentation phenotypes with higher anthocyanin concentrations. The results of the qRT-PCR analysis revealed that the gene expression levels of LDOX (leucoanthocyanidin dioxygenase), F3GT (UDP-flavonoid 3-O-glycosyltransferase ), AcMYB10 , and AcbHLH42 were strongly correlated and upregulated by both the bagging treatment and 25 °C storage. The results of bimolecular fluorescence complementation and luciferase complementation imaging assays indicated an interaction between AcMYB10 and AcbHLH42 in plant cells, whereas the results of a yeast one-hybrid assay further demonstrated that AcMYB10 activated the promoters of AcLODX and AcF3GT . These results strongly suggest that enhanced anthocyanin synthesis is caused by the promoted expression of AcLODX and AcF3GT , regulated by the complex formed by AcMYB10 - AcbHLH42 .

Due to limitations in operational scope and efficiency, a single Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) falls short of meeting the demands of the contemporary marine working environment. Consequently, there is a growing interest in the coordination of multiple AUVs. To address the requirements of coordinated missions, this paper proposes a comprehensive solution for the coordinated development of multi-AUV formations, encompassing long-range ferrying, coordinated detection, and surrounding attack. In the initial phase, detection devices are deactivated, employing a path planning method based on the Rapidly Exploring Random Tree (RRT) algorithm to ensure collision-free AUV movement. During the coordinated detection phase, an artificial potential field method is applied to maintain AUV formation integrity and avoid obstacles, dynamically updating environmental probability based on formation movement. In the coordinated surroundings attack stage, predictive capabilities are enhanced using Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks and reinforcement learning. Specifically, LSTM forecasts the target's position, while the Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) method controls AUV formation. The effectiveness of this coordinated solution is validated through an integrated simulation trajectory.

Ischemic stroke is a leading cause of death and disability in the world. At present, reperfusion therapy and neuroprotective therapy, as guidelines for identifying effective and adjuvant treatment methods, are limited by treatment time windows, drug bioavailability, and side effects. Nanomaterial-based drug delivery systems have the characteristics of extending half-life, increasing bioavailability, targeting drug delivery, controllable drug release, and low toxicity, thus being used in the treatment of ischemic stroke to increase the therapeutic effects of drugs. Therefore, this review provides a comprehensive overview of nanomaterial-based drug delivery systems from nanocarriers, targeting ligands and stimulus factors of drug release, aiming to find the best combination of nanomaterial-based drug delivery systems for ischemic stroke. Finally, future research areas on nanomaterial-based drug delivery systems in ischemic stroke and the implications of the current knowledge for the development of novel treatment for ischemic stroke were identified.

Street view images are emerging as new street-level sources of urban environmental information. Accurate detection and quantification of urban air conditioners is crucial for evaluating the resilience of urban residential areas to heat wave disasters and formulating effective disaster prevention policies. Utilizing street view image data to predict the spatial coverage of urban air conditioners offers a simple and effective solution. However, detecting and accurately counting air conditioners in complex street-view environments remains challenging. This study introduced 3D parameter-free attention and coordinate attention modules into the target detection process to enhance the extraction of detailed features of air conditioner external units. It also integrated a small target detection layer to address the challenge of detecting small target objects that are easily missed. As a result, an improved algorithm named SC4-YOLOv7 was developed for detecting and recognizing air conditioner external units in street view images. To validate this new algorithm, we extracted air conditioner external units from street view images of residential buildings in Guilin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. The results of the study demonstrated that SC4-YOLOv7 significantly improved the average accuracy of recognizing air conditioner external units in street view images from 87.93% to 91.21% compared to the original YOLOv7 method while maintaining a high speed of image recognition detection. The algorithm has the potential to be extended to various applications requiring small target detection, enabling reliable detection and recognition in real street environments.

In this paper, in order to reduce the energy consumption and time of data transmission, the non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) and mobile edge caching technologies are jointly considered in mobile edge computing (MEC) networks. As for the cache-assisted vehicular NOMA-MEC networks, a problem of minimizing the energy consumed by vehicles (mobile devices, MDs) is formulated under time and resource constraints, which jointly optimize the computing resource allocation, subchannel selection, device association, offloading and caching decisions. To solve the formulated problem, we develop an effective joint computation offloading and task-caching algorithm based on the twin-delayed deep deterministic policy gradient (TD3) algorithm. Such a TD3-based offloading (TD3O) algorithm includes a designed action transformation (AT) algorithm used for transforming continuous action space into a discrete one. In addition, to solve the formulated problem in a non-iterative manner, an effective heuristic algorithm (HA) is also designed. As for the designed algorithms, we provide some detailed analyses of computation complexity and convergence, and give some meaningful insights through simulation. Simulation results show that the TD3O algorithm could achieve lower local energy consumption than several benchmark algorithms, and HA could achieve lower consumption than the completely offloading algorithm and local execution algorithm.

The labeling-free and immobilization-free homogeneous aptamer sensor offers advantages including simple operation, low cost, and high sensitivity, demonstrating great potential in rapid detection of tumor biomarkers in biological samples. In this work, a labeling-free and immobilization-free homogeneous aptamer sensor was conveniently fabricated by combining size exclusion and charge-selective penetration of a nanochannel-modified electrode and two-dimensional (2D) nanorecognition probe which can realize selective and highly sensitive detection of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) in serum. Vertically ordered mesoporous silica film (VMSF) with ultra-small, uniform, and vertically aligned nanochannels was easily grown on the simple, low-cost, and disposable indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode. Through π-π interaction and electrostatic force, the AFP aptamer (Apt) and electrochemical probe, tris(bipyridine)ruthenium(II) (Ru(bpy) 3 2+ ), were coloaded onto graphene oxide (GO) through simple incubation, forming a 2D nanoscale recognition probe (Ru(bpy) 3 2+ /Apt@GO). Owing to the size exclusion effect of VMSF towards the 2D nanoscale probe, the electrochemical signal of Ru(bpy) 3 2+ /Apt@GO could not be detected. In the presence of AFP, the specific binding of AFP to the aptamer causes the dissociation of the aptamer and Ru(bpy) 3 2+ from GO, resulting in their presence in the solution. The efficient electrostatic enrichment towards Ru(bpy) 3 2+ by negatively charged VMSF allows for high electrochemical signals of free Ru(bpy) 3 2+ in the solution. Linear determination of AFP ranged from 1 pg/mL to 1000 ng/mL and could be obtained with a low limit of detection (LOD, 0.8 pg/mL). The high specificity of the adapter endowed the constructed sensor with high selectivity. The fabricated probe can be applied in direct determination of AFP in serum.

To effectively adapt to changing environments, plants must maintain a delicate balance between growth and resistance or tolerance to various stresses. Nitrate, a significant inorganic nitrogen source in soils, not only acts as an essential nutrient but also functions as a critical signaling molecule that regulates multiple aspects of plant growth and development. In recent years, substantial advancements have been made in understanding nitrate sensing, calcium-dependent nitrate signal transmission, and nitrate-induced transcriptional cascades. Mounting evidence suggests that the primary response to nitrate is influenced by environmental conditions, while nitrate availability plays a pivotal role in stress tolerance responses. Therefore, this review aims to provide an overview of the transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulation of key components in the nitrate signaling pathway, namely, NRT1.1, NLP7, and CIPK23, under abiotic stresses. Additionally, we discuss the specificity of nitrate sensing and signaling as well as the involvement of epigenetic regulators. A comprehensive understanding of the integration between nitrate signaling transduction and abiotic stress responses is crucial for developing future crops with enhanced nitrogen-use efficiency and heightened resilience.

Image stitching technology realizes alignment and fusion of a series of images with common pixel areas taken from different viewpoints of the same scene to produce a wide field of view panoramic image with natural structure. The night environment is one of the important scenes of human life, and the night image stitching technology has more urgent practical significance in the fields of security monitoring and intelligent driving at night. Due to the influence of artificial light sources at night, the brightness of the image is unevenly distributed and there are a large number of dark light areas, but often these dark light areas have rich structural information. The structural features hidden in the darkness are difficult to extract, resulting in ghosting and misalignment when stitching, which makes it difficult to meet the practical application requirements. Therefore, a nighttime image stitching method based on image decomposition enhancement is proposed to address the problem of insufficient line feature extraction in the stitching process of nighttime images. The proposed algorithm performs luminance enhancement on the structural layer, smoothes the nighttime image noise using a denoising algorithm on the texture layer, and finally complements the texture of the fused image by an edge enhancement algorithm. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm improves the image quality in terms of information entropy, contrast, and noise suppression compared with other algorithms. Moreover, the proposed algorithm extracts the most line features from the processed nighttime images, which is more helpful for the stitching of nighttime images.

In this work, a unified method is proposed for analyzing the relationship between the Seebeck coefficient and the energy disorder of organic semiconductors at any multi-parameter density of states (DOS) to study carrier transport in disordered thermoelectric organic semiconductors and the physical meaning of improved DOS parameters. By introducing the Gibbs entropy, a new multi-parameter DOS and traditional Gaussian DOS are used to verify this method, and the simulated result of this method can well fit the experiment data obtained on three organic devices. In particular, the impact of DOS parameters on the Gibbs entropy can also influence the impact of the energy disorder on the Seebeck coefficient.

In this work, we proposed a novel theory of DOS for disordered organic semiconductors based on the frontier orbital theory and probability statistics. The proposed DOS has been verified by comparing with other DOS alternatives and experimental data, and the mobility calculated by the proposed DOS is closer to experimental data than traditional DOS. Moreover, we also provide a detailed method to choose the DOS parameter for better use of the proposed DOS. This paper also contains a prediction for the DOS parameters, and it has been verified by the experimental data. More importantly, the physical meaning of the proposed DOS parameter has been explained by equilibrium energy theory and transport energy theory to make this proposed model more rational. Compared with the improved DOS based on Gaussian and exponential DOS, this work is a new attempt to combine probabilistic theory with physical theory related to DOS in disordered organic semiconductors, showing great significance for the further investigation of the properties of DOS.

Ganpu vine tea is a new type of health care citrus fruit tea made from citrus shell, Pu-er tea, and vine tea baked as raw materials. In this study, the in vitro uric acid synthase inhibition system and hyperuric acid cell model were constructed to appraise the uric acid lowering efficacy of Ganpu vine tea, traditional Ganpu tea, and vine tea. Results showed that in the uric acid synthase inhibition system, the aqueous extract can inhibite the puric metabolically related enzymes, such as adenosine deaminase (ADA), purine nucleoside phosphorylase (PNP), and xanthine oxidase (XOD). The ability of the aqueous extract to inhibit the above enzyme was as follows: vine tea > Ganpu vine tea > Ganpu tea; all teas had a strong effect on XOD inhibition. The hyperuric acid cell model test showed that the aqueous extract inhibited uric acid production through accumulating inosine and hypoxanthine and hindering xanthine synthesis. The uric acid reductive ability was as follows: Vine tea > Ganpu vine tea > Ganpu tea. The inhibition of enzymes related to uric acid synthesis and the inhibition of uric acid production were significantly enhanced through adding vine tea to Ganpu tea. It also shows that flavonoids are the main factor driving this ability because they are the main active ingredients in these botanical drinks.

In the process of determining positioning point by constructing geometric relations on the basis of the positions and poses obtained from multiple pairs of epipolar geometry, the direction vectors will not converge due to the existence of mixed errors. The existing methods to calculate the coordinates of undetermined points directly map the three-dimensional direction vector to the two-dimensional plane and take the intersection points that may be at infinity as the positioning result. To end this, an indoor visual positioning method with three-dimensional coordinates using built-in smartphone sensors based on epipolar geometry is proposed, which transforms the positioning problem into solving the distance from one point to multiple lines in space. It combines the location information obtained by the accelerometer and magnetometer with visual computing to obtain more accurate coordinates. Experimental results show that this positioning method is not limited to a single feature extraction method when the source range of image retrieval results is poor. It can also achieve relatively stable localization results in different poses. Furthermore, 90% of the positioning errors are lower than 0.58 m, and the average positioning error is less than 0.3 m, meeting the accuracy requirements for user localization in practical applications at a low cost.

Continuously growing demand for natural products with pharmacological activities has promoted the development of microbial transformation techniques, thereby facilitating the efficient production of natural products and the mining of new active compounds. Furthermore, due to the shortcomings and defects of microbial transformation, it is an important scientific issue of social and economic value to improve and optimize microbial transformation technology in increasing the yield and activity of transformed products. In this review, the aspects regarding the optimization of fermentation and the cross-disciplinary strategy, leading to the microbial transformation of increased levels of the high-efficiency process from natural products of a plant or microbial origin, were discussed. Additionally, due to the increasing craving for targeted and efficient methods for detecting transformed metabolites, analytical methods based on multiomics were also discussed. Such strategies can be well exploited and applied to the production of more efficient and more natural products from microbial resources.

Acute altitude hypoxia represents the cause of multiple adverse consequences. Current treatments are limited by side effects. Recent studies have shown the protective effects of resveratrol (RSV), but the mechanism remains unknown. To address this, the effects of RSV on the structure and function of hemoglobin of adult (HbA) were preliminarily analyzed using surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and oxygen dissociation assays (ODA). Molecular docking was conducted to specifically analyze the binding regions between RSV and HbA. The thermal stability was characterized to further validate the authenticity and effect of binding. Changes in the oxygen supply efficiency of HbA and rat RBCs incubated with RSV were detected ex vivo. The effect of RSV on the anti-hypoxic capacity under acute hypoxic conditions in vivo was evaluated. We found that RSV binds to the heme region of HbA following a concentration gradient and affects the structural stability and rate of oxygen release of HbA. RSV enhances the oxygen supply efficiency of HbA and rat RBCs ex vivo. RSV prolongs the tolerance times of mice suffering from acute asphyxia. By enhancing the oxygen supply efficiency, it alleviates the detrimental effects of acute severe hypoxia. In conclusion, RSV binds to HbA and regulates its conformation, which enhances oxygen supply efficiency and improves adaption to acute severe hypoxia.

In order to fabricate homogeneous large-scale Ti-5Al-5V-5Mo-3Cr (Ti-5553) alloy bulk with fine and equiaxial β grain, we performed a series of multi-axial α + β field forging with 62 forging cycles on the large-scale Ti-5553 billet by using 12.5 MN high-speed hydraulic press. The β-annealed microstructure was the starting microstructure of the billet. After the 6th forging cycle, β grain deformed dramatically, and the grain-boundary network developed within the irregular β grain. As the forging cycle increased to 44, the volume fraction of the fine and equiaxial β grain that is less than 20 μm, which is caused by dynamic recrystallization, increased gradually. However, the incomplete dynamic recrystallization region within the original β grain could not be eliminated. As the forging cycle further increased, the volume fraction of the fine and equiaxial β grain did not increase. In contrast, the abnormal grain growth of the β phase occurred during 50th~62nd forging cycle. Here, we attribute the formation of the incomplete dynamic recrystallization region and the abnormal grain growth of the β phase to the high deformation rate of the α + β forging. The refining behavior of β grain and the abnormal coursing β grain, which is found during the multi-cycle multi-axial forging of large-scale Ti-5553 alloy billet, are seldom reported in the isothermal compression of small-scale Ti-5553 alloy specimen. The findings of the paper are instructive for improving the sub-transus forging strategy that is used to fabricate the large-scale homogeneity Ti-5553 alloy billet with fine and equiaxial β grain.

With the rapid development of mobile Internet technology, localization using visual image information has become a hot problem in the field of indoor localization research, which is not affected by signal multipath and fading and can achieve high accuracy localization in indoor areas with complex electromagnetic environments. However, in practical applications, position estimation using visual images is easily influenced by the user's photo pose. In this paper, we propose a multiple-sensor-assisted visual localization method in which the method constructs a machine learning classifier using multiple smart sensors for pedestrian pose estimation, which improves the retrieval efficiency and localization accuracy. The method mainly combines the advantages of visual image location estimation and pedestrian pose estimation based on multiple smart sensors and considers the effect of pedestrian photographing poses on location estimation. The built-in sensors of smartphones are used as the source of pedestrian pose estimation data, which constitutes a feasible location estimation method based on visual information. Experimental results show that the method proposed in this paper has good localization accuracy and robustness. In addition, the experimental scene in this paper is a common indoor scene and the experimental device is a common smartphone. Therefore, we believe that the proposed method in this paper has the potential to be widely used in future indoor navigation applications in complex scenarios (e.g., mall navigation).

Nonholonomic four-wheeled mobile robot (NFMR) is a typical multiple input-multiple output system that formulates its kinematic dynamics concerning position and attitude in a parallel manner. However, due to the lumped disturbances and interconnected states, demand-satisfied performance is difficult to obtain for existing coupled control solutions. To address this problem, a double-loop sliding-mode control (DLSMC) mechanism is proposed for achieving position/attitude cascade regulation. For the outer position tracking loop in the proposed scheme, a sliding mode control method of the bounded time-varying integral nonsingular terminal is designed to guarantee fast tracking in the presence of large initial errors and input saturation. On the other hand, for the inner attitude control loop, a novel adaptive barrier function-based sliding-mode control method is proposed without control gain overestimation. This enables the attitude to follow within a predefined vicinity of the sliding mode surface and holds it subsequently independent of the lumped uncertainties. Theoretical analysis is conducted to demonstrate the asymptotic stability. Comparative experiments implemented on a homemade NFMR show enhanced trajectory tracking performance and system robustness using position/attitude cascade regulation via the proposed DLSMC mechanism.

Baijiu is a unique and traditional distilled liquor in China. Flavor plays a crucial rule in baijiu. Up to now, the research on the flavor of baijiu has progressed from the identification of volatile compounds to the research on key aroma compounds, but the release mechanism of these characteristic compounds is still unclear. Meanwhile, volatile compounds account for only a tiny fraction, whereas ethanol and water account for more than 98% of the content in baijiu. By summarizing the ethanol-water hydrogen bond structure in different alcoholic beverages, it was found that flavor compounds can affect the association strength of the ethanol-water hydrogen bond, and ethanol-water can also affect the interface distribution of flavor compounds. Therefore, the research on ethanol-water microstructure in baijiu is helpful to realize the simple visualization of adulteration detection, aging determination and flavor release mechanism analysis of baijiu, and further uncover the mystery of baijiu.

Background: Cibotii rhizoma (CR) is a famous traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) used to treat bleeding, rheumatism, lumbago, etc. However, its therapeutic effects and mechanism against thrombocytopenia are still unknown so far. In the study, we investigated the effects of aqueous extracts of Cibotii rhizoma (AECRs) against thrombocytopenia and its molecular mechanism., Methods: Giemsa staining, phalloidin staining, and flow cytometry were performed to measure the effect of AECRs on the megakaryocyte differentiation in K562 and Meg-01 cells. A radiation-induced thrombocytopenia mouse model was constructed to assess the therapeutic actions of AECRs on thrombocytopenia. Network pharmacology and experimental verification were carried out to clarify its mechanism against thrombocytopenia., Results: AECRs promoted megakaryocyte differentiation in K562 and Meg-01 cells and accelerated platelet recovery and megakaryopoiesis with no systemic toxicity in radiation-induced thrombocytopenia mice. The PI3K/AKT, MEK/ERK, and JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathways contributed to AECR-induced megakaryocyte differentiation. The suppression of the above signaling pathways by their inhibitors blocked AERC-induced megakaryocyte differentiation., Conclusions: AECRs can promote megakaryopoiesis and thrombopoiesis through activating PI3K/AKT, MEK/ERK, and JAK2/STAT3 signaling pathways, which has the potential to treat radiation-induced thrombocytopenia in the clinic.

Sample identification error is a severe medical error in clinical molecular diagnostic laboratories, which can lead to reporting the wrong results for the patient involved. Sample contamination can also lead to incorrect test reports. Avoiding sample identification error and sample contamination could be life-saving. Sample switch and sample contamination could happen on laboratory bench works, especially when pipetting into multi-well plates. It is difficult to realize such errors during laboratory bench work. Laboratory staff may not be aware of such an error when it happens. DNA fingerprinting technology can be used to determine sample identity and subsequently identify sample switch and sample contamination in the laboratory. Our laboratory has explored the usage of this technology in our quality control process and successfully established that DNA fingerprinting can be used to monitor sample switch and sample contamination in next-generation sequencing and BCR/ABL1 real-time PCR bench work.

Problems such as insufficient key space, lack of a one-time pad, and a simple encryption structure may emerge in existing encryption schemes. To solve these problems, and keep sensitive information safe, this paper proposes a plaintext-related color image encryption scheme. Firstly, a new five-dimensional hyperchaotic system is constructed in this paper, and its performance is analyzed. Secondly, this paper applies the Hopfield chaotic neural network together with the novel hyperchaotic system to propose a new encryption algorithm. The plaintext-related keys are generated by image chunking. The pseudo-random sequences iterated by the aforementioned systems are used as key streams. Therefore, the proposed pixel-level scrambling can be completed. Then the chaotic sequences are utilized to dynamically select the rules of DNA operations to complete the diffusion encryption. This paper also presents a series of security analyses of the proposed encryption scheme and compares it with other schemes to evaluate its performance. The results show that the key streams generated by the constructed hyperchaotic system and the Hopfield chaotic neural network improve the key space. The proposed encryption scheme provides a satisfying visual hiding result. Furthermore, it is resistant to a series of attacks and the problem of structural degradation caused by the simplicity of the encryption system's structure.

This paper investigates the influence of loading directions on mechanical performance, damage behavior and failure mechanisms of a mill-annealed Ti-6Al-4V (TC4) alloy thick plate at the strain rate of 2000/s. The plate possesses {11-20} texture and consists of globular α grain, fine equiaxial α grain, α laminate that is parallel to the normal direction (ND) of the plate and grain-boundary β laminate. The yield strength and the flow stress of the plate are not affected by the loading directions, while the fracture strain in ND is 38.2% and 32.2% higher than that in the rolling direction (RD) and the traverse direction (TD). As it is loaded in the RD and TD, the deformation mechanism of the alloy is dislocation slip. However, the deformation mechanisms in ND are dislocation slip and {10-12}<10-1-1> twinning. The activation of {10-12}<10-1-1> twinning could delay the formation of the adiabatic shearing band (ASB). Multiple adiabatic shearing bands (ASBs) form as the compression direction is in the RD and TD. In contrast, as the compression direction is in ND, only one ASB could be observed. The dramatic adiabatic shear could not result in the dynamic recrystallization of the mill-annealed TC4 alloy but could lead to the formation of nano-sized α laminate. The compressive fracture mechanism of the alloy plate is the crack propagation in the main ASB, which is not affected by the loading directions. Here we attribute the superior dynamic failure strain in the ND of the plate to the {10-12}<10-1-1> twinning induced by {11-20}α texture, cooperative deformation ability of the α laminate and higher shear strain within the ASB. The findings of our work are instructive for reducing foreign object damage to mill-annealed TC4 alloy fan blades.

Thrombocytopenia is one of the most common complications of cancer therapy. Until now, there are still no satisfactory medications to treat chemotherapy and radiation-induced thrombocytopenia (CIT and RIT, respectively). Caulis Polygoni Multiflori (CPM), one of the most commonly used Chinese herbs, has been well documented to nourish blood for tranquilizing the mind and treating anemia, suggesting its beneficial effect on hematopoiesis. However, it is unknown whether CPM can accelerate megakaryopoiesis and thrombopoiesis. Here, we employ a UHPLC Q-Exactive HF-X mass spectrometer (UHPLC QE HF-X MS) to identify 11 ingredients in CPM. Then, in vitro experiments showed that CPM significantly increased megakaryocyte (MK) differentiation and maturation but did not affect apoptosis and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release of K562 and Meg-01 cells. More importantly, animal experiments verified that CPM treatment markedly accelerated platelet recovery, megakaryopoiesis and thrombopoiesis in RIT mice without hepatic and renal toxicities in vivo. Finally, RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) and western blot were used to determine that CPM increased the expression of proteins related to PI3K/Akt and MEK/ERK (MAPK) signaling pathways. On the contrary, blocking PI3K/Akt and MEK/ERK signaling pathways with their specific inhibitors suppressed MK differentiation induced by CPM. In conclusion, for the first time, our study demonstrates that CPM may be a promised thrombopoietic agent and provide an experimental basis for expanding clinical use.

Image stitching refers to stitching two or more images with overlapping areas through feature points matching to generate a panoramic image, which plays an important role in geological survey, military reconnaissance, and other fields. At present, the existing image stitching technologies mostly adopt images with good lighting conditions, but the lack of feature points in scenes with weak light such as morning or night will affect the image stitching effect, making it difficult to meet the needs of practical applications. When there exist concentrated areas of brightness such as lights and large dark areas in the nighttime image, it will further cause the loss of image details making the feature point matching unavailable. The obtained perspective transformation matrix cannot reflect the mapping relationship of the entire image, resulting in poor splicing effect, and it is difficult to meet the actual application requirements. Therefore, an adaptive image enhancement algorithm is proposed based on guided filtering to preprocess the nighttime image, and use the enhanced image for feature registration. The experimental results show that the image obtained by preprocessing the nighttime image with the proposed enhancement algorithm has better detail performance and color restoration, and greatly improves the image quality. By performing feature registration on the enhanced image, the number of matching logarithms of the image increases, so as to achieve high accuracy for images stitching.

The static magnetic fields (SMFs) impact on biological systems, induce a variety of biological responses, and have been applied to the clinical treatment of diseases. However, the underlying mechanisms remain largely unclear. In this report, by using human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) as a model, we investigated the biological effect of SMFs at a molecular and cellular level. We showed that SMF exposure promotes MSC proliferation and activates the expression of transcriptional factors such as FOS (Fos Proto-Oncogene, AP-1 Transcription Factor Subunit) and EGR1 (Early Growth Response 1). In addition, the expression of signal-transduction proteins p-ERK1/2 and p-JNK oscillate periodically with SMF exposure time. Furthermore, we found that the inhibition of the T-type calcium ion channels negates the biological effects of SMFs on MSCs. Together, we revealed that the SMFs regulate T-type calcium ion channels and mediate MSC proliferation via the MAPK signaling pathways.

As the most common neuro-epithelial tumors of the central nervous system in adults, gliomas are highly malignant and easy to recurrence, with a dismal prognosis. Imaging studies are indispensable for tracking tumor progression (TP) or treatment-related changes (TRCs). During follow-up, distinguishing TRCs from TP in treated patients with gliomas remains challenging as both share similar clinical symptoms and morphological imaging characteristics (with new and/or increasing enhancing mass lesions) and fulfill criteria for progression. Thus, the early identification of TP and TRCs is of great significance for determining the prognosis and treatment. Histopathological biopsy is currently the gold standard for TP and TRC diagnosis. However, the invasive nature of this technique limits its clinical application. Advanced imaging methods (e.g., diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), perfusion MRI, magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), positron emission tomography (PET), amide proton transfer (APT) and artificial intelligence (AI)) provide a non-invasive and feasible technical means for identifying of TP and TRCs at an early stage, which have recently become research hotspots. This paper reviews the current research on using the abovementioned advanced imaging methods to identify TP and TRCs of gliomas. First, the review focuses on the pathological changes of the two entities to establish a theoretical basis for imaging identification. Then, it elaborates on the application of different imaging techniques and AI in identifying the two entities. Finally, the current challenges and future prospects of these techniques and methods are discussed.

A novel fluorescein-based probe FLA-Boe was developed for detecting H 2 O 2 . Modified by 2-Bromomethylphenylboronic acid pinacol ester, FLA-Boe is a Fluorescein derivative with eminent photostability and remarkable H 2 O 2 sensitivity and selectivity. FLA-Boe was utilized to synthesize hydrogel sensors in the manner of guest-host interaction by taking advantage of its aforementioned features. The hydrogel sensor can be used to detect H 2 O 2 effectively in both flowing and static water environments with satisfactory performance. It is expected that this application may open a new page to develop a neoteric fluorescent property analysis method aiming at H 2 O 2 detection.

Severe environmental pollution is caused by the massive discharge of complex industrial wastewater. The photocatalytic technology has been proved as an effective way to solve the problem, while an efficient photocatalyst is the most critical factor. Herein, a new photocatalyst MIL-68(Ga)&#95;NH 2 was obtained by hydrothermal synthesis and were characterized by PXRD, FTIR, 1 H NMR, and TGA systematically. The result demonstrates that MIL-68(Ga)&#95;NH 2 crystallized in orthorhombic system and Cmcm space group with the unit cell parameters: a = 36.699 Å, b = 21.223 Å, c = 6.75 Å, V = 5257.6 Å 3 , which sheds light on the maintenance of the crystal structure of the prototype material after amino modification. The conversion of Cr(VI) and binary pollutant Cr(VI)/RhB in wastewater under visible light stimulation was characterized by the UV-vis DRS. Complementary experimental results indicate that MIL-68(Ga)&#95;NH 2 exhibits remarkable photocatalytic activity for Cr(VI) and the degradation rate reaches as high as 98.5% when pH = 2 and ethanol as hole-trapping agent under visible light irradiation with good reusability and stability. Owing to the synergistic effect between Cr(VI) and RhB in the binary pollutant system, MIL-68(Ga)&#95;NH 2 exhibits excellent catalytic activity for both the pollutants, the degradation efficiency of Cr(VI) and RhB was up to 95.7% and 94.6% under visible light irradiation for 120 min, respectively. The possible removal mechanism of Cr(VI)/RhB based on MIL-68(Ga)&#95;NH 2 was explored. In addition, Ga-based MOF was applied in the field of photocatalytic treatment of wastewater for the first time, which broadened the application of MOF materials in the field of photocatalysis.

Pancreatic cancer is a highly fatal disease and an increasing common cause of cancer mortality. Mounting evidence now indicates that molecular heterogeneity in pancreatic cancer significantly impacts its clinical features. However, the dynamic nature of gene expression pattern makes it difficult to rely solely on gene expression alterations to estimate disease status. By contrast, biological networks tend to be more stable over time under different situations. In this study, we used a gene interaction network from a new point of view to explore the subtypes of pancreatic cancer based on individual-specific edge perturbations calculated by relative gene expression value. Our study shows that pancreatic cancer patients from the TCGA database could be separated into four subtypes based on gene interaction perturbations at the individual level. The new network-based subtypes of pancreatic cancer exhibited substantial heterogeneity in many aspects, including prognosis, phenotypic traits, genetic mutations, the abundance of infiltrating immune cell, and predictive therapeutic efficacy (chemosensitivity and immunotherapy efficacy). The new network-based subtypes were closely related to previous reported molecular subtypes of pancreatic cancer. This work helps us to better understand the heterogeneity and mechanisms of pancreatic cancer from a network perspective.

Background: The detection of CEBPA and FLT3 mutations by next generation sequencing (NGS) is challenging due to high GC content and Internal Tandem Duplications (ITDs). Recent advances have been made to surmount these challenges. In this study, we compare three commercial kits and evaluate the performance of these more advanced hybrid-capture and AMP-chemistry based methods., Methods: Amplicon-based TSM 54-Gene Panel (Illumina) was evaluated against hybridization-capture SOPHiA Genetics MSP, OGT SureSeq, and AMP chemistry-based VariantPlex (Archer) for wet-lab workflow and data-analysis pipelines. Standard kit directions and commercial analysis pipelines were followed. Seven CEBPA and 10 FLT3 -positive cases were identified that previously were missed on an amplicon NGS assay. The average reads, coverage uniformity, and the detection of CEBPA or FLT3 mutations were compared., Results: All three panels detected all 10 CEBPA mutations and all 10 FLT3 ITDs with 100% sensitivity. In addition, there was high concordance (100%) between all three panels detecting 47/47 confirmed variants in a set of core myeloid genes., Conclusions: The results show that the NGS assays are now able to reliably detect CEBPA mutations and FLT3 ITDs. These assays may allow foregoing additional orthogonal testing for CEBPA and FLT3 .

The aim of this study is to fabricate biodegradable PLA-based composite filaments for 3D printing to manufacture bear-loading lattice structures. First, CaCO 3 and TCP as inorganic fillers were incorporated into a PLA matrix to fabricate a series of composite filaments. The material compositions, mechanical properties, and rheology behavior of the PLA/CaCO 3 and PLA/TCP filaments were evaluated. Then, two lattice structures, cubic and Triply Periodic Minimal Surfaces-Diamond (TPMS-D), were geometrically designed and 3D-printed into fine samples. The axial compression results indicated that the addition of CaCO 3 and TCP effectively enhances the compressive modulus and strength of lattice structures. In particular, the TPMS-D structure showed superior load-carrying capacity and specific energy absorption compared to those of its cubic counterparts. Furthermore, the deformation behavior of these two lattice structures was examined by image recording during compression and computed tomography (CT) scanning of samples after compression. It was observed that pore structure could be well held in TPMS-D, while that in cubic structure was destroyed due to the fracture of vertical struts. Therefore, this paper highlights promising 3D-printed biodegradable lattice structures with excellent energy-absorption capacity and high structural stability.

Biological control is a key component of integrated pest management (IPM). To suppress pests in a certain threshold, chemical control is used in combination with biological and other control methods. An essential premise for using pesticides in IPM is to ascertain their compatibility with beneficial insects. Chrysopa sinica (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) is an important predator of various pests and used for pest management. This study was intended to analyze metabolic changes in C. sinica larvae after feeding on azadirachtin-treated Plutella xylostella (Lepidoptera, Plutellidae) larvae through a non-targeted LC-MS (Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry) based metabolomics analysis. Results showed that C. sinica larvae did not die after consuming P. xylostella larvae treated with azadirachtin. However, their pupation and eclosion were adversely affected, resulting in an impairment in the completion of their life cycle. Feeding C. sinica larvae with azadirachtin-treated P. xylostella larvae affected over 10,000 metabolites across more than 20 pathways, including the metabolism of amino acids, carbohydrates, lipid, cofactors, and vitamins in C. sinica larvae, of which changes in amnio acid metabolism were particularly pronounced. A working model was proposed to illustrate differential changes in 20 metabolites related to some amino acid metabolisms. Among them, 15 were markedly reduced and only five were elevated. Our results suggest that azadirachtin application may not be exclusively compatible with the use of the predator C. sinica for control of P. xylostella . It is recommended that the compatibility should be evaluated not only based on the survival of the predatory insects but also by the metabolic changes and the resultant detrimental effects on their development.

Pregnancy loss (PL) is one of the common complications that women can experience during pregnancy, with an occurrence rate of 1 to 5%. The potential causes of pregnancy loss are unclear, with no effective treatment modalities being available. It has been previously reported that the level of miR-125b was significantly increased in placentas of PL patients. However, the role of miR-125b in the development of PL still remains unknown. In the current study, an miR-125b placenta-specific over-expression model was constructed by lentiviral transfecting zona-free mouse embryos followed by embryo transfer. On gestation day 15, it was observed that the placenta was significantly smaller in the miR-125b placenta-specific overexpression group than the control group. Additionally, the abortion rate of the miR-125b placenta-specific overexpression group was markedly higher than in the control group. The blood vessel diameter was larger in the miR-125b-overexpressing specific placenta. In addition, miR-125b-overexpressing HTR8 and JEG3 cell lines were also generated to analyze the migration and invasion ability of trophoblasts. The results showed that miR-125b overexpression significantly suppressed the migration and invasion ability of HTR8 and JEG3 cells. Overall, our results demonstrated that miR-125b can affect embryo implantation through modulating placenta angiogenesis and trophoblast cell invasion capacity that can lead to PL.

Ricaniidae is a relatively small planthopper family with about 69 genera and 442 species worldwide. Members of this family occur throughout the warm temperate and tropical regions. Some species cause devastating damage to major agricultural and economic plants. However, the relationship between Ricaniidae and other families of Fulgoroidea needs to be further explored. The morphological definitions of the two biggest genera, Pochazia Amyot & Serville, 1843 and Ricania Germar, 1818 (the type genus of Ricaniidae) remain controversial. In this study, mitogenomes of five representatives in these two genera were decoded using the next-generation sequence method and genome assembly. Results showed that their complete mitogenomes are circular DNA molecules with 15,457 to 16,411 bp. All protein-coding genes (PCGs) begin with the start codon ATN, GTG or TTG and end with TAA, TAG, an incomplete stop codon single T or an incomplete stop codon single A. A lost DHU arm was discovered in the trnS gene of the five mitogenomes and the trnV gene within Pochazia confusa, Pochazia guttifera and Ricania simulans. The remnant tRNAs folded into clover-leaf structures. The sliding window, genetic distance, and Ka/Ks analyses indicated that the cox1 gene is the slowest evolving and is relatively conserved. The phylogenetic tree topologies support (Delphacidae + (((Issidae + (Lophopidae + Caliscelidae)) + (Flatidae + Ricaniidae)) + (Achilidae + (Dictyopharidae + Fulgoridae)))) as the best topology, as recognized by both PhyloBayes, RAxML and MrBayes based on four data sets (PCG, PCGRNA, PCG12, PCG12RNA). The monophyly of Ricaniidae and the sister group status of two families Flatidae and Ricaniidae are supported, but all analyses failed to support the monophyly of Pochazia and Ricania. The diagnoses between these two genera cannot be resolved until more evidence is acquired.

Encapsulated microbubbles combined with ultrasound have been widely utilized in various biomedical applications; however, the bubble dynamics in viscoelastic medium have not been completely understood. It involves complex interactions of coated microbubbles with ultrasound, nearby microbubbles and surrounding medium. Here, a comprehensive model capable of simulating the complex bubble dynamics was developed via taking the nonlinear viscoelastic behaviors of the shells, the bubble-bubble interactions and the viscoelasticity of the surrounding medium into account simultaneously. For two interacting lipid-coated bubbles with different initial radii in viscoelastic media, it exemplified that the encapsulating shell, the inter-bubble interactions and the medium viscoelasticity would noticeably suppress bubble oscillations. The inter-bubble interactions exerted a much stronger suppressing effect on the small bubble within the parameters examined in this paper, which might result from a larger radiated pressure acting on the small bubble due to the inter-bubble interactions. The lipid shells make the microbubbles exhibit two typical asymmetric dynamic behaviors (i.e., compression or expansion dominated oscillations), which are determined by the initial surface tension of the bubbles. Accordingly, the inertial cavitation threshold decreases as the initial surface tension increases, but increases as the shell elasticity and viscosity increases. Moreover, with the distance between bubbles decreasing and/or the initial radius of the large bubble increasing, the oscillations of the small bubble decrease and the inertial cavitation threshold increases gradually due to the stronger suppression effects caused by the enhanced bubble-bubble interactions. Additionally, increasing the elasticity and/or viscosity of the surrounding medium would also dampen bubble oscillations and result in a significant increase in the inertial cavitation threshold. This study may contribute to both encapsulated microbubble-associated ultrasound diagnostic and emerging therapeutic applications.

Spermatogenesis is a complicated process involving mitotically proliferating spermatogonial cells, meiotically dividing spermatocytes, and spermatid going through maturation into spermatozoa. The post-translational modifications of proteins play important roles in this biological process. S -palmitoylation is one type of protein modifications catalyzed by zinc finger Asp-His-His-Cys (ZDHHC)-family palmitoyl S -acyltransferases. There are 23 mammalian ZDHHCs that have been identified in mouse. Among them, Zdhhc19 is highly expressed in adult testis. However, the in vivo function of Zdhhc19 in mouse spermatogenesis and fertility remains unknown. In this study, we knocked out the Zdhhc19 gene by generating a 2609 bp deletion from exon 3 to exon 6 in mice. No differences were found in testis morphology and testis/body weight ratios upon Zdhhc19 deletion. Spermatogenesis was not disrupted in Zdhhc19 knockout mice, in which properly developed TRA98+ germ cells, SYCP3+ spermatocytes, and TNP1+ spermatids/spermatozoa were detected in seminiferous tubules. Nevertheless, Zdhhc19 knockout mice were male infertile. Zdhhc19 deficient spermatozoa exhibited multiple defects including abnormal morphology of sperm tails and heads, decreased motility, and disturbed acrosome reaction. All of these led to the inability of Zdhhc19 mutant sperm to fertilize oocytes in IVF assays. Taken together, our results support the fact that Zdhhc19 is a testis enriched gene dispensable for spermatogenesis, but is essential for sperm functions in mice.

The complete mitogenomes of nine fulgorid species were sequenced and annotated to explore their mitogenome diversity and the phylogenetics of Fulgoridae. All species are from China and belong to five genera: Dichoptera Spinola, 1839 ( Dichoptera sp.); Neoalcathous Wang and Huang, 1989 ( Neoalcathous huangshanana Wang and Huang, 1989); Limois Stål, 1863 ( Limois sp.); Penthicodes Blanchard, 1840 ( Penthicodes atomaria (Weber, 1801), Penthicodes caja (Walker, 1851), Penthicodes variegata (Guérin-Méneville, 1829)); Pyrops Spinola, 1839 ( Pyrops clavatus (Westwood, 1839), Pyrops lathburii (Kirby, 1818), Pyrops spinolae (Westwood, 1842)). The nine mitogenomes were 15,803 to 16,510 bp in length with 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), 2 ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs) and a control region (A + T-rich region). Combined with previously reported fulgorid mitogenomes, all PCGs initiate with either the standard start codon of ATN or the nonstandard GTG. The TAA codon was used for termination more often than the TAG codon and the incomplete T codon. The nad1 and nad4 genes varied in length within the same genus. A high percentage of F residues were found in the nad4 and nad5 genes of all fulgorid mitogenomes. The DHU stem of trnV was absent in the mitogenomes of all fulgorids sequenced except Dichoptera sp. Moreover, in most fulgorid mitogenomes, the trnL2 , trnR , and trnT genes had an unpaired base in the aminoacyl stem and trnS1 had an unpaired base in the anticodon stem. The similar tandem repeat regions of the control region were found in the same genus. Phylogenetic analyses were conducted based on 13 PCGs and two rRNA genes from 53 species of Fulgoroidea and seven outgroups. The Bayesian inference and maximum likelihood trees had a similar topological structure. The major results show that Fulgoroidea was divided into two groups: Delphacidae and ((Achilidae + (Lophopidae + (Issidae + (Flatidae + Ricaniidae)))) + Fulgoridae). Furthermore, the monophyly of Fulgoridae was robustly supported, and Aphaeninae was divided into Aphaenini and Pyropsini, which includes Neoalcathous , Pyrops , Datua Schmidt, 1911, and Saiva Distant, 1906. The genus Limois is recovered in the Aphaeninae, and the Limoisini needs further confirmation; Dichoptera sp. was the earliest branch in the Fulgoridae.

Although sequences of mitogenomes have been widely used for investigating phylogenetic relationship, population genetics, and biogeography in many members of Fulgoroidea, only one complete mitogenome of a member of Flatidae has been sequenced. Here, the complete mitogenomes of Cerynia lineola , Cromna sinensis, and Zecheuna tonkinensis are sequenced. The gene arrangements of the three new mitogenomes are consistent with ancestral insect mitogenomes. The strategy of using mitogenomes in phylogenetics remains in dispute due to the heterogeneity in base composition and the possible variation in evolutionary rates. In this study, we found compositional heterogeneity and variable evolutionary rates among planthopper mitogenomes. Phylogenetic analysis based on site-homogeneous models showed that the families (Delphacidae and Derbidae) with high values of Ka/Ks and A + T content tended to fall together at a basal position on the trees. Using a site-heterogeneous mixture CAT + GTR model implemented in PhyloBayes yielded almost the same topology. Our results recovered the monophyly of Fulgoroidea. In this study, we apply the heterogeneous mixture model to the planthoppers' phylogenetic analysis for the first time. Our study is based on a large sample and provides a methodological reference for future phylogenetic studies of Fulgoroidea.

The secondary injury process after traumatic brain injury (TBI) results in motor dysfunction, cognitive and emotional impairment, and poor outcomes. These injury cascades include excitotoxic injury, mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, ion imbalance, inflammation, and increased vascular permeability. Electron microscopy is an irreplaceable tool to understand the complex pathogenesis of TBI as the secondary injury is usually accompanied by a series of pathologic changes at the ultra-micro level of the brain cells. These changes include the ultrastructural changes in different parts of the neurons (cell body, axon, and synapses), glial cells, and blood-brain barrier, etc. In view of the current difficulties in the treatment of TBI, identifying the changes in subcellular structures can help us better understand the complex pathologic cascade reactions after TBI and improve clinical diagnosis and treatment. The purpose of this review is to summarize and discuss the ultrastructural changes related to neurons (e.g., condensed mitochondrial membrane in ferroptosis), glial cells, and blood-brain barrier in the existing reports of TBI, to deepen the in-depth study of TBI pathomechanism, hoping to provide a future research direction of pathogenesis and treatment, with the ultimate aim of improving the prognosis of patients with TBI.

Autumn crocus ( Colchicum autumnale L.) is a medicinal plant as it contains high concentrations of colchicine. In this study, we reported that the ground powder of autumn crocus bulb is highly toxic to invasive Solenopsis invicta Buren, commonly referred to as red imported fire ants (RIFAs). Ants fed with sugar water containing 5000 mg/L of bulb powder showed 54.67% mortality in three days compared to 45.33% mortality when fed with sugar water containing 50 mg/L of colchicine. Additionally, the effects of short-term feeding with sugar water containing 1 mg/L of colchicine and 100 mg/L of autumn crocus bulb powder were evaluated for RIFAs' colony weight, food consumption, and aggressiveness, i.e., aggregation, grasping ability, and walking speed. After 15 days of feeding, the cumulative colony weight loss reached 44.63% and 58.73% due to the sublethal concentrations of colchicine and autumn crocus bulb powder, respectively. The consumption of sugar water and mealworm ( Tenebrio molitor L.) was substantially reduced. The aggregation rates decreased 48.67% and 34.67%, grasping rates were reduced to 38.67% and 16.67%, and walking speed decreased 1.13 cm/s and 0.67 cm/s as a result of the feeding of the two sublethal concentrations of colchicine and autumn crocus bulb powder, respectively. Our results for the first time show that powder derived from autumn crocus bulbs could potentially be a botanical pesticide for controlling RIFAs, and application of such a product could be ecologically benign due to its rapid biodegradation in the environment.
