Fluxapyroxad, a persistent fungicide in soil, was investigated for differences in residue dissipation in Chinese cabbage and spring scallion through the application methods of soil, foliar, and systemic treatment. Soil application of 0.4% granule fluxapyroxad resulted in residues up to 0.09 mg kg−1 in the scallion, while it did not contribute to the residues in the harvested cabbage. The 50% dissipation time (DT50) of fluxapyroxad in the scallion was 6.8 days. The residues from systemic treatment were highly correlated with foliar application in both the cabbage and the scallion, and the initial residue and DT50 values were similar for foliar and systemic treatments. In comparing the residues from the systemic treatments between the two crops, the initial residue was 3.11 and 0.22 mg kg−1 in the cabbage and the scallion after the systemic treatment, respectively. The DT50 values were 2.6 and 12.2 days in the cabbage and the scallion, respectively. The theoretical dilution effect due to crop growth was higher for the cabbage (4-fold) than for the scallion (1.2-fold), and the half-lives of fluxapyroxad without considering the dilution effect were 6.4 days in the cabbage and 17.8 days in the scallion. This work investigates the stability conditions for linear systems with time-varying delays via an augmented Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional (LKF). Two types of augmented LKFs with cross terms in integrals are suggested to improve the stability conditions for interval time-varying linear systems. In this work, the compositions of the LKFs are considered to enhance the feasible region of the stability criterion for linear systems. Mathematical tools such as Wirtinger-based integral inequality (WBII), zero equalities, reciprocally convex approach, and Finsler's lemma are utilized to solve the problem of stability criteria. Two sufficient conditions are derived to guarantee the asymptotic stability of the systems using linear matrix inequality (LMI). First, asymptotic stability criteria are induced by constructing the new augmented LKFs in Theorem 1. Then, simplified LKFs in Corollary 1 are proposed to show the effectiveness of Theorem 1. Second, asymmetric LKFs are shown to reduce the conservatism and the number of decision variables in Theorem 2. Finally, the advantages of the proposed criteria are verified by comparing maximum delay bounds in four examples. Four numerical examples show that the proposed Theorems 1 and 2 obtain less conservative results than existing outcomes. Particularly, Example 2 shows that the asymmetric LKF methods of Theorem 2 can provide larger delay bounds and fewer decision variables than Theorem 1 in some specific systems. Aluminum-incorporated medium-manganese steel (MMnS) has potential for lightweight transport applications owing to its impressive mechanical properties. Increasing the austenite volume fraction and making microstructural changes are key to manufacturing MMnS. However, the grain boundary character and strain distribution of intercritically annealed low-density MMnS have not been extensively scrutinized, and the effects of crystallographic texture orientation on tensile properties remain ambiguous. Therefore, in this study, the microstructure, microtexture, strain distribution, and grain boundary characteristics of a hot-rolled medium-Mn steel (Fe–0.2 C–4.3 Al–9.4 Mn (wt%)) were investigated after intercritical annealing (IA) at 750, 800, or 850 °C for 1 h. The results show that the 800 °C annealed sample exhibited the highest austenite volume fraction among the specimens (60%). The duplex microstructure comprised lath-type γ-austenite, fine α-ferrite, and coarse δ-ferrite. As the IA temperature increased, the body-centered cubic phase orientation shifted from <001> to <111>. At higher temperatures, the face-centered cubic phase was oriented in directions ranging from <101> to <111>, and the sums of the fractions of high-angle grain boundaries and coincidence–site–lattice special boundaries were significantly increased. The 800 °C annealed sample with a high austenite content and strong γ-fiber {111}//RD orientation demonstrated a noteworthy tensile strength (1095 MPa) and tensile elongation (30%). Background: To evaluate the current evidence on clear aligners and root resorption using 3D and/or combined 2D and 3D methods from available systematic reviews and meta-analyses and to determine the relationship between root resorption and clear aligners using the AMSTAR 2 tool. Methods: A comprehensive literature search of systematic reviews investigating aligners and root resorption, published up until 31 December 2022, was conducted. The following electronic databases were searched: MEDLINE via PubMed, EMBASE, Google Scholar, Science Direct, Web of Science, Scopus, LIVIVO, and LILACS. There were no language restrictions. The inclusion criteria were restricted to studies focusing on root resorption utilizing either 3D methods exclusively or a combination of 2D and 3D techniques. Data were screened and analyzed for quality using the "A Measurement Tool to Assess Systematic Reviews (AMSTAR 2)" tool. Data extraction was conducted independently by two authors. The gathered information was categorized and synthesized narratively based on the primary findings elucidated within the reviews. Results: Out of a total of 1221 potentially eligible studies initially identified, 4 systematic reviews met the inclusion criteria following the exclusion of irrelevant studies. Among these, two systematic reviews (50%) were classified as low-quality, while the remaining two (50%) were deemed to be of critically low quality. Conclusions: Based on the findings of four systematic reviews, the root resorption rate was lower with the use of clear aligners than with fixed aligners. It is advisable to approach the interpretation of this conclusion with caution, as the quality of the available evidence is assessed to be very low. Alloy coatings protect steel from corrosion in various applications. We investigated the effects of Si addition on the microstructure, electrochemical behavior, and corrosion resistance of steel sheets coated with a hot-dip Zn–Mg–Al–Si alloy using a batch-type galvanization process. Microstructural analysis revealed that the Zn–Al–Mg alloy coating layer contained a significant amount of Fe that diffused from the substrate, leading to delamination due to the formation of brittle Fe–Zn intermetallic compounds. However, the introduction of Si resulted in the formation of a stable Fe2Al3Si inhibition layer at the substrate–coating interface; this layer prevented interdiffusion of Fe as well as enhanced the coating adhesion. Additionally, the formation of acicular Mg2Si phases on the coating surface improved the surface roughness. As the Si content increased, the corrosion resistance of the coating improved. Specifically, the Zn–Al–Mg coating layer with 0.5 wt.% Si exhibited excellent anti-corrosion performance, without red rust formation on its surface even after 2600 h, during a salt spray test. Background and objectives: Musculoskeletal (MSK) pain significantly impacts physical activity and quality of life in older adults, potentially influencing mortality. This study explored the relationship between MSK pain, physical activity, muscle mass, and mortality among older adults. Material and Methods: We studied 1000 participants in the Korean Longitudinal Study on Health and Aging (KLoSHA), a prospective, population-based cohort study of people aged 65 years or older. Survival status was tracked over a 5-year period. Correlations between low back pain (LBP), knee pain, regular exercise, appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASM), and other variables were analyzed. Logistic regression analyses were used to identify independent risk factors for mortality. Results: Of the total participants, 829 (82.9%) survived over a 5-year period. Survivors tended to be younger, had a higher BMI, and were more active in regular exercise. In contrast, non-survivors exhibited a higher prevalence of both LBP and knee pain, along with increased instances of multiple MSK pains. Lower ASM correlated moderately with LBP and knee pain, whereas higher ASM was associated with regular exercise. There was a moderate correlation between LBP and knee pain, both of which were associated with a lack of regular exercise. Age, sex, ASM, and regular exercise were significant predictors, even though MSK pain itself did not directly predict all-cause mortality. Conclusions: This study demonstrated the independent association between ASM, regular exercise, and mortality. Although MSK pain did not directly correlate with all-cause mortality, the non-survivor group had higher levels of both single and multiple MSK pains. Recognizing the interplay of MSK pain, physical activity, and muscle mass for older adults, the research underscores the need for holistic strategies to enhance health outcomes in older individuals with MSK pain. To develop customized sulfur–resistant catalysts for the water gas shift (WGS) reaction in the waste–to–hydrogen process, the effects of changing the nucleation conditions of the CeO2 support on catalytic performance were investigated. Supersaturation is a critical kinetic parameter for nuclei formation. The degree of supersaturation of the CeO2 precipitation solution was controlled by varying the cerium precursor concentration from 0.02 to 0.20 M. Next, 2 wt.% of Pt was impregnated on those various CeO2 supports by the incipient wetness impregnation method. The prepared samples were then evaluated in a WGS reaction using waste–derived synthesis gas containing 500 ppm H2S. The Pt catalyst supported by CeO2 prepared at the highest precursor concentration of 0.20 M exhibited the best sulfur resistance and catalytic activity regeneration. The sulfur tolerance of the catalyst demonstrated a close correlation with its oxygen storage capacity and easier reducibility. Hot-dip Al–Si alloy coatings with excellent resistance to corrosion and high-temperature oxidation have emerged as promising lightweight substitutes for conventional corrosion-resistant coatings. The introduction of Mg can be an effective strategy for enhancing the sacrificial protection capability of Al–Si coatings. In this study, the effects of Mg addition on the morphology, electrochemical behavior, and mechanical properties of Al–Si coatings were investigated, along with the Mg-content optimization of the coating layer. Adding Mg promoted the formation of finely distributed eutectic intermetallic phases, such as Al/Mg2Si and the primary Mg2Si phase. Notably, the Mg2Si phase coarsened significantly when ≥15 wt.% of Mg was added. In addition, an Al3Mg2 intermetallic compound was observed in coating layers containing >20 wt.% of Mg, reducing the adhesion of the coating layers. Samples containing 5–10 wt.% of Mg exhibited excellent corrosion resistance (owing to a uniform distribution of the fine eutectic Al/Mg2Si phase and the formation of stable corrosion products), whereas those containing 20 wt.% of Mg exhibited unremarkable corrosion resistance (owing to the formation of an Al3Mg2 phase that is susceptible to intergranular corrosion). Most patients with stroke suffer from complications and these include dysphagia. Dysphagia can cause malnutrition, and malnutrition affects prognosis and recovery. However, there is a lack of accurate studies on the nutritional status of stroke patients with dysphagia and its associated factors in different phases of stroke. This study retrospectively investigated 620 stroke patients who underwent a videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) due to dysphagia, from March 2018 to February 2021. The study aimed to evaluate the nutritional state and associated factors of malnutrition in acute and subacute stroke patients with dysphagia. Serum albumin and percentage of current weight to ideal weight were used to determine nutritional status. Malnutrition was observed in 58.9 and 78.9% of acute and subacute stroke patients. Exact logistic regression analysis revealed that old age and high penetration–aspiration scale score were significantly associated factors for malnutrition in patients with acute stroke. Old age, stroke history, bilateral hemiplegia, high modified Rankin score, low Korean Mini-Mental State Examination, pneumonia, and high functional dysphagia score were significantly associated factors for malnutrition in patients with subacute stroke. In this study, we prepared flexible and transparent hybrid electrodes based on an aqueous solution of non-oxidized graphene and single-walled carbon nanotubes. We used a simple halogen intercalation method to obtain high-quality graphene flakes without a redox process and prepared hybrid films using aqueous solutions of graphene, single-walled carbon nanotubes, and sodium dodecyl sulfate surfactant. The hybrid films showed excellent electrode properties, such as an optical transmittance of ≥90%, a sheet resistance of ~3.5 kΩ/sq., a flexibility of up to ε = 3.6% ((R) = 1.4 mm), and a high mechanical stability, even after 103 bending cycles at ε = 2.0% ((R) = 2.5 mm). Using the hybrid electrodes, thin-film transistors (TFTs) were fabricated, which exhibited an electron mobility of ~6.7 cm2 V−1 s−1, a current on-off ratio of ~1.04 × 107, and a subthreshold voltage of ~0.122 V/decade. These electrical properties are comparable with those of TFTs fabricated using Al electrodes. Waning vaccine-induced immunity, coupled with the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants, has inspired the widespread implementation of COVID-19 booster vaccinations. Here, we evaluated the potential of the GX-19N DNA vaccine as a heterologous booster to enhance the protective immune response to SARS-CoV-2 in mice primed with either an inactivated virus particle (VP) or an mRNA vaccine. We found that in the VP-primed condition, GX-19N enhanced the response of both vaccine-specific antibodies and cross-reactive T Cells to the SARS-CoV-2 variant of concern (VOC), compared to the homologous VP vaccine prime-boost. Under the mRNA-primed condition, GX-19N induced higher vaccine-induced T Cell responses but lower antibody responses than the homologous mRNA vaccine prime-boost. Furthermore, the heterologous GX-19N boost induced higher S-specific polyfunctional CD4+ and CD8+ T cell responses than the homologous VP or mRNA prime-boost vaccinations. Three-dimensional (3D) printing has various applications in many fields, such as soft electronics, robotic systems, biomedical implants, and the recycling of thermoplastic composite materials. Three-dimensional printing, which was only previously available for prototyping, is currently evolving into a technology that can be utilized by integrating various materials into customized structures in a single step. Owing to the aforementioned advantages, multi-functional 3D objects or multi-material-designed 3D patterns can be fabricated. In this study, we designed and fabricated 3D-printed expandable structural electronics in a substrateless auxetic pattern that can be adapted to multi-dimensional deformation. The printability and electrical conductivity of a stretchable conductor (Ag-RTV composite) were optimized by incorporating a lubricant. The Ag-RTV and RTV were printed in the form of conducting voxels and frame voxels through multi-nozzle printing and were arranged in a negative Poisson's ratio pattern with a missing rib structure, to realize an expandable passive component. In addition, the expandable structural electronics were embedded in a soft actuator via one-step printing, confirming the possibility of fabricating stable interconnections in expanding deformation via a missing rib pattern. In this study, a ferroelectric layer was formed on a ferroelectric device via plasma enhanced atomic layer deposition. The device used 50 nm thick TiN as upper and lower electrodes, and an Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 (HZO) ferroelectric material was applied to fabricate a metal–ferroelectric–metal-type capacitor. HZO ferroelectric devices were fabricated in accordance with three principles to improve their ferroelectric properties. First, the HZO nanolaminate thickness of the ferroelectric layers was varied. Second, heat treatment was performed at 450, 550, and 650 °C to investigate the changes in the ferroelectric characteristics as a function of the heat-treatment temperature. Finally, ferroelectric thin films were formed with or without seed layers. Electrical characteristics such as the I–E characteristics, P–E hysteresis, and fatigue endurance were analyzed using a semiconductor parameter analyzer. The crystallinity, component ratio, and thickness of the nanolaminates of the ferroelectric thin film were analyzed via X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. The residual polarization of the (20,20)*3 device heat treated at 550 °C was 23.94 μC/cm2, whereas that of the D(20,20)*3 device was 28.18 μC/cm2, which improved the characteristics. In addition, in the fatigue endurance test, the wake-up effect was observed in specimens with bottom and dual seed layers, which exhibited excellent durability after 108 cycles. Neurogenic bowel dysfunction (NBD) is common in patients with cauda equina syndrome (CES). Previous studies have reported that electrical stimulation (ES) improves NBD but more neurophysiologic evidence is required. This case report describes a patient who experienced difficulty with defecation as a result of cauda equina syndrome (CES) that developed after a cesarean section performed 12 years ago under spinal anesthesia. The neurophysiological effects were assessed using the bulbocavernosus reflex (BCR) and electromyography (EMG). Two ES treatments, interferential current therapy and transcutaneous electrical stimulation, were used to stimulate the intestine and the external anal sphincter, respectively. The BCR results showed right-side delayed latency and no response on the left side. Needle EMG revealed abnormal spontaneous activities of the bilateral bulbocavernosus (BC) muscles. Electrodiagnostic testing revealed chronic bilateral sacral polyradiculopathy, compatible with CES. After treatment, the patient reported an improved perianal sensation, less strain and time for defecation than before, and satisfaction with her bowel condition. At the follow-up electrodiagnosis, the BCR latency was normal on the right side—needle EMG revealed reductions in the abnormal spontaneous activities of both BC muscles and re-innervation of the right BC muscle. Electrodiagnostic testing can offer insight into the neurophysiological effects of ES, which can help in understanding the mechanism of action and optimizing the therapy for patients with NBD. The applicability of galvanized products in various industries has increased the demand for highly corrosion-resistant coatings to counter harsh environments. Among these, Zn–Mg–Al ternary alloy coatings have excellent corrosion resistance, resulting in their commercialization and industrial demand. To increase the diversification of their products, the ideal flux composition in these coatings should be optimized. In this study, we investigated the effects of conventional flux (ZnCl2:NH4Cl) in the hot-dip galvanization of Zn–Mg–Al ternary alloy coatings. Additionally, we developed a new flux to improve the coating properties of Zn–Mg–Al ternary alloy coatings on steel sheets. During hot dipping, SnCl2 on the steel substrate decomposed faster than conventional flux, thereby eliminating the AlCl3 residues in the coating and surface defects. The thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis studies unveiled the mechanisms for improved coatings. The thermodynamic calculations confirmed the spontaneous substitution owing to the presence of SnCl2 in the flux. Trophoblast cells of endometrium during bovine pregnancy with different characteristics undergo dynamic changes during uterine remodeling, which can be observed as continuous changes, as P4 secreted by the mother is replaced by placental hormones. In this context, the present study analyzed tissues' morphological changes through uterine apoptosis during early pregnancy. In addition, the expression pattern associated with apoptosis genes and 20α-HSD was determined in the endometrium and caruncle tissues. The localization of 20α-HSD, VEGF, Casp3, and mTOR protein was also determined in endometrium and caruncle during early pregnancy. From around 30 days, caruncle trophoblast cells with very high invasiveness expanded the villus section as the gestation period progressed. The surrounding cells detached and reorganized into new cells. In addition, an analysis of the effect of apoptosis on cell reorganization in the caruncle revealed that the expression of 20α-HSD/Casp-3 signals in the villus section gradually increased from 30 to 90 days. However, on the 30th day, glandular epithelial cells occurred sporadically in the trophoblast cell section. Moreover, the apoptosis of trophoblast cells increased at 90 days. Taken together, the results of the present study show that changes in the uterus during early pregnancy promote changes during later pregnancy by inducing the reorganization through the stimulation of 20α-HSD and Casp-3, promoting uterine and caruncle tissues, unlike cell development mediated by hormone signaling. The characteristics of bioliquid produced through the hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) of wood wastes and the effects of recirculation on hydrochar production were analyzed. The organic acids and total organic carbon of bioliquid increased with progressive recirculation, whereas intermediate byproducts decreased. Hydrochar production by bioliquid recirculation increased mass yield, carbon content, caloric value, and energy yield of the former, while improving its quality as a solid refuse fuel. We concluded that bioliquid recirculation promoted HTC, as demonstrated by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. Furthermore, contrary to predictions, a relatively constant quantity of bioliquid was generated in each step, indicating that its continuous reuse is feasible. Therefore, bioliquid recirculation can improve hydrochar production while simultaneously mitigating the environmental impact of wastewater generation. Background: Rotator cuff tears (RCTs) induce chronic muscle weakness and shoulder pain. Treatment of RCT using surgery or drugs causes lipid infiltration and fibrosis, which hampers tissue regeneration and complete recovery. The pluripotent stem cell-derived multipotent mesenchymal stem cells (M-MSCs) represent potential candidate next-generation therapies for RCT. Methods: The difference between M-MSCs and adult-MSCs was compared and analyzed using next-generation sequencing (NGS). In addition, using a rat model of RCT, the muscle recovery ability of M-MSCs and adult-MSCs was evaluated by conducting a histological analysis and monitoring the cytokine expression level. Results: Using NGS, it was confirmed that M-MSC was suitable for transplantation because of its excellent ability to regulate inflammation that promotes tissue repair and reduced apoptosis and rejection during transplantation. In addition, while M-MSCs persisted for up to 8 weeks in vivo, they significantly reduced inflammation and adipogenesis-related cytokine levels in rat muscle. Significant differences were also confirmed in histopathological remission. Conclusions: M-MSCs remain in the body longer to modulate immune responses in RCTs and have a greater potential to improve muscle recovery by alleviating acute inflammatory responses. Polymer waveguide phase modulators exhibit stable low-power phase modulation owing to their exceptional thermal confinement and high thermo-optic effect, and thus, have the merit of thermal isolation between channels, which is crucial for an optical phased array (OPA) beam scanner device. In this work, a waveguide phase modulator was designed and fabricated based on a high-refractive-index fluorinated polyimide. The propagation loss of the polyimide waveguide and the temporal response of the phase modulator were characterized. Moreover, the transfer function of the phase modulator including multiple poles and zeros was obtained from the measured frequency response. The polyimide waveguide modulator device demonstrated a fast response time of 117 μs for 1 kHz input signal, however, for 1 mHz step-function input, it exhibited an additional 5% phase change in 5 s. Background: Bee venom acupuncture (BVA) is an effective treatment method for various diseases. Bee venom, however, can cause adverse effects, even rarely including life-threatening anaphylaxis, so safety-related evidence is required. In this study, we systematically estimated the incidence rate of anaphylaxis in response to BVA. Methods: We searched eight databases (MEDLINE (Pubmed), EMBASE, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled, KISS, KMBASE, Koreamed, OASIS, and NDSL) and systematically reviewed the articles that met the inclusion/exclusion criteria. Results: Among 225 potentially relevant articles, 49 were selected for this study. The overall incidence rate of anaphylaxis in response to BVA was 0.045% (95% CI 0.028–0.062). Women (0.083%, 95% CI 0.010–0.157) showed a higher incidence rate than men (0.019%, 95% CI −0.018 to 0.055), while the incidence for patients who had a skin test conducted (0.041%, 95% CI 0.011–0.072) was not significantly different compared to that obtained for patients for which there was no information about a skin test (0.047%, 95% CI 0.026–0.067). The publication year affected the incidence rate: it was highest before 1999 (1.099%, 95% CI −1.043 to 3.241), lower between 2000 and 2009 (0.049%, 95% CI 0.025–0.073), and lowest between 2010 and 2021 (0.037% 95% CI 0.014–0.060). Tourniquet use during total knee arthroplasty improves the surgical field, but is associated with several complications. The medical records of 506 patients who underwent elective total knee arthroplasty or total knee replacement from January 2017 to December 2020 were reviewed. A total of 331 patients who had undergone total knee arthroplasty were included. In the first half course group, the tourniquet was inflated with a pressure of 300 mmHg after manual banding before the incision and deflated after cement insertion. In the two-stage group, the tourniquet was inflated and deflated at the same stages of the procedure as in the first half course group. However, in this second group, the tourniquet was deflated for 15 min and then inflated again, and, finally, it was deflated after skin closure. The estimated blood loss, the number of patients who needed medications to control their blood pressure, and opioid usage at the post-anesthesia care unit were similar in both groups. A systematic device-model calibration (extraction) methodology has been proposed to reduce parameter calibration time of advanced compact model for modern nano-scale semiconductor devices. The adaptive pattern search algorithm is a variant of the direct search method, which explore in the parameter space with adaptive searching step and direction. It is very straightforward, but powerful, in high dimensional optimization problem since adaptive step and direction are decided by simple computation. In this paper, we present an automatic procedure that enhances the solution accuracy of edge-based smoothed 2D solid finite elements (three-node triangular and four-node quadrilateral elements). To obtain an enhanced solution, an adaptive enrichment scheme that uses enriched 2D solid finite elements and can effectively improve solution accuracy by applying cover functions adaptively without mesh-refinement is adopted in this procedure. First, the error of the edge-based finite element solution is estimated using a devised error estimation method, and appropriate cover functions are assigned for each node. While the edge-based smoothed finite elements provide piecewise constant strain fields, the proposed enrichment scheme uses the enriched finite elements to obtain a higher order strain field within the finite elements. In order to reduce the weight of parts in the automobile and electronic industries, various research on dissimilar welding techniques of aluminum and steel is being carried out. Since dissimilar materials have different physical and electrochemical characteristics, joining through conventional fusion welding is challenging, and there is a high probability of a decrease in strength of the welded joints. To solve this problem, a mechanical fastening method is mainly applied to join dissimilar parts with different material properties, but this process has disadvantages in terms of productivity improvement and cost reduction because additional consumables, such as rivets, are required. In this research, we investigated the optimization of the weld bonding conditions of joints using epoxy-based adhesive bonding and DeltaSpot welding for Al/Fe dissimilar materials. For each experimental condition, the corrosion resistance and tensile shear strength of the welded joints were evaluated according to salt spray test times of 0 h, 640 h, 1280 h, and 1920 h. As a whole, as the salt spray test time increased, the tensile shear strength of the welded joints decreased. It was confirmed that weld bonding, after manual polishing of the aluminum side, resulted in the highest average tensile shear strength of 5.88 kN at 1920 h, which was an increase compared with other conditions. Many elements have been used as dopants to enhance the thermoelectric performance of Bi2Te3-related materials. Among them, Ag’s effect on thermoelectric properties, where Ag acts as a donor or acceptor, remains unclear. To elucidate the role of Ag in n-type Bi2Te3 based compounds, Ag was added to n-type (Bi0.9Sb0.1)2(Te0.85Se0.15)3. As the amount of Ag was increased, the electron concentration decreased, which means Ag acted as an acceptor. The added Ag atoms were found to occupy interstitial sites in the hexagonal lattices, as confirmed by X-ray analysis and first principles calculations. The Al-Ni system is known as a high energy density materials (HEDM) because of its highly exothermic nature during intermetallic compound (IMC) formation. In this study, elemental Al and Ni powder were milled to explore the effect of cryomilling atmosphere on the microstructure and exothermic behavior. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) observations show continuous structural refinement up to 8 h of cryomilling. No IMC phase was detected in the X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectrum. Differential thermal analyzer (DTA) results show two exothermic peaks for 8 h cryomilled powder as compared to that of powder milled for 1 h. The ignition temperature of prepared powder mixture also decreased due to gradual structural refinement. The activation energy was also calculated and correlated with the DTA and SEM results. The solvothermal decomposition of iron complexes using the heat-up process enables monodisperse Fe3O4 nanoparticle synthesis. Here, we demonstrate that the high reduction potential capability of alkaline metal reagents in the reductive environment allows for pure magnetite phase formation at 200 °C, which is lower than that of typical synthetic method and offers highly crystalline superparamagnetic and ferrimagnetic nanostructures with the ability to control uniformity including spherical and cubic morphology with narrow size distributions. Our method involved reduction of the acetylacetonate and acetate anions to aldehyde and alcohol as an oxygen resource for iron oxide nucleation in an inert condition. For confirming the developed pure surface phase of alkaline metal reagent-assisted magnetite nanoparticle, the magnetic field-dependent shifting of blocking temperature was investigated. The degree of the exchange interaction between core spins and disordered surface spins is attributed to the ratio of core spins and disordered surface spins. The decrease in disordered surface spins deviation due to an enhanced pure phase of magnetite nanoparticles exhibited the negligible shift of the blocking temperature under differently applied external field, and it demonstrated that alkaline metal reagent-induced reductive conditions enable less formation of both disordered surface spins and biphasic nanostructures. A bioelectronic nose, an intelligent chemical sensor array system coupled with bio-receptors to identify gases and vapours, resembles mammalian olfaction by which many vertebrates can sniff out volatile organic compounds (VOCs) sensitively and specifically even at very low concentrations. Olfaction is undertaken by the olfactory system, which detects odorants that are inhaled through the nose where they come into contact with the olfactory epithelium containing olfactory receptors (ORs). Because of its ability to mimic biological olfaction, a bio-inspired electronic nose has been used to detect a variety of important compounds in complex environments. Recently, biosensor systems have been introduced that combine nanoelectronic technology and olfactory receptors themselves as a source of capturing elements for biosensing. In this article, we will present the latest advances in bioelectronic nose technology mimicking the olfactory system, including biological recognition elements, emerging detection systems, production and immobilization of sensing elements on sensor surface, and applications of bioelectronic noses. Adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs) are associated with an increased risk of chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease (CVD) and metabolic syndrome (MS), in the future. We designed a large-scale cohort study to evaluate the influence of APOs (preeclampsia, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), stillbirth, macrosomia, and low birth weight) on the incidence of chronic diseases, body measurements, and serum biochemistry in the future and investigate whether combinations of APOs had additive effects on chronic diseases. We used health examinee data from the Korean Genome and Epidemiology Study (KoGES-HEXA) and extracted data of parous women (n = 30,174; mean age, 53.02 years) for the analysis. Women with APOs were more frequently diagnosed with chronic diseases and had a family history of chronic diseases compared with women without APOs. Composite APOs were associated with an increased risk of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, angina pectoris, stroke, and MS (adjusted odds ratio: 1.093, 1.379, 1.269, 1.351, 1.414, and 1.104, respectively) after adjustment for family history and social behaviors. Preeclampsia and GDM were associated with an increased risk of some chronic diseases; however, the combination of preeclampsia and GDM did not have an additive effect on the risk. Thermally conductive adhesives were prepared by incorporating magnesium oxide (MgO) and boron nitride (BN) into fluorosilicone resins. The effects of filler type, size, and shape on thermal conductivity and adhesion properties were analyzed. Higher thermal conductivity was achieved when larger fillers were used, but smaller ones were advantageous in terms of adhesion strength. Bimodal adhesives containing spherical MgOs with an average particle size of 120 μm and 90 μm exhibited the highest conductivity value of up to 1.82 W/mK. Filler shape was also important to improve the thermal conductivity as the filler type increased. Trimodal adhesives revealed high adhesion strength compared to unimodal and bimodal adhesives, which remained high after aging at 85 °C and 85% relative humidity for 168 h. It was found that the thermal and adhesion properties of fluorosilicone composites were strongly affected by the packing efficiency and interfacial resistance of the particles. Enamel cracks generated in the anterior teeth not only affect the function but also the aesthetics of the teeth. Chair-side tooth enamel crack detection is essential for clinicians to formulate treatment plans and prevent related dental disease. This study aimed to develop a dental imaging system using a near-IR light source to detect enamel cracks and to investigate the relationship between anterior enamel cracks and age in vivo. A total of 68 subjects were divided into three groups according to their age: young, middle, and elderly. Near-infrared radiation of 850 nm was used to identify enamel cracks in anterior teeth. The results of the quantitative examination showed that the number of enamel cracks on the teeth increased considerably with age. For the qualitative examination, the results indicated that there was no significant relationship between the severity of the enamel cracks and age. So, it can be concluded that the prevalence of anterior cracked tooth increased significantly with age in the young and middle age. The length of the anterior enamel cracks tended to increase with age too; however, this result was not significant. Accurate prediction of failure to progress and rapid decision making regarding the mode of delivery can improve pregnancy outcomes. We examined the value of sonographic cervical markers in the prediction of successful vaginal delivery beyond 34 weeks of gestation. A retrospective chart review was carried out. Medical information of singleton gestations delivered at a single center from 1 July 2019 to 30 August 2020 was collected. Transvaginal sonographic records of cervical length, anterior and posterior cervical angles, and cervical dilatation were obtained and re-measured. The value of these markers and clinical characteristics of mother and baby on vaginal delivery were investigated and compared to women who underwent cesarean section. A total of 90 women met the inclusion criteria. The rate of vaginal delivery was 75.6%. There were no differences found in terms of maternal age, rate of abortion, induction of labor, premature rupture of membranes, preterm labor, hypertension, diabetes, cervical length, and neonatal sex and weight. The prediction of vaginal delivery was provided by parity, maternal body mass index, and posterior cervical angle. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve for prediction of vaginal delivery was 0.667 (95% CI 0.581–0.864, p = 0.017) for the posterior cervical angle, with a cutoff of 96.5°. Regression analysis revealed a posterior cervical angle ≥96.5° in the prediction of vaginal delivery (adjusted odds ratio: 6.24; 95% confidence interval: 1.925–20.230, p = 0.002). Posterior cervical angle ≥96.5° is associated with successful vaginal delivery. It is simple and easy to measure and can be useful in determining the mode of delivery. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Preeclampsia (PE) is a major disease of pregnancy, with various short- or long-term complications for both the mother and offspring. We focused on the body mass index (BMI) of offspring and compared the incidence of obesity during early childhood between PE- and non-PE-affected pregnancies. Women with singleton births (n = 1,697,432) were identified from the Korea National Health Insurance database. The outcomes of offspring at 30–80 months of age were analyzed. The effects of PE on BMI and the incidence of obesity in the offspring were compared. The incidence of low birth weight (LBW) offspring was higher in the PE group (n = 29,710) than that in the non-PE group (n = 1,533,916) (24.70% vs. 3.33%, p < 0.01). However, BMI was significantly higher in the PE-affected offspring than that in non-PE-affected offspring. After adjusting for various factors, the risk of obesity was higher in the PE-affected offspring (odds ratio = 1.34, 95% confidence interval = 1.30–1.38). The BMI and incidence of obesity were higher during early childhood in the PE-affected offspring, even though the proportion of LBW was higher. These results may support the basic hypotheses for the occurrence of various cardiovascular and metabolic complications in PE-affected offspring. Studies have reported that cholesterol, a molecule found mainly in animals, is also present in some plants and algae. This study aimed to determine whether cholesterol exists in three dehydrated algae species, namely, Pyropia tenera, Saccharina japonica, and Undaria pinnatifida, and in one plant species, namely, Perilla frutescens (four perilla seed oil samples were analyzed). These species were chosen for investigation because they are common ingredients in East Asian cuisine. Gas chromatography-flame ionization detection (GC-FID) analysis found that cholesterol was present in P. tenera (14.6 mg/100 g) and in all four perilla seed oil samples (0.3–0.5 mg/100 g). High-performance liquid chromatography with evaporative light-scattering detection (HPLC-ELSD) also demonstrated that cholesterol was present in P. tenera (14.2 mg/100 g) and allowed the separation of cholesterol from its isomer lathosterol. However, cholesterol could not be detected by HPLC-ELSD in the perilla seed oil samples, most likely because it is only present in trace amounts. Moreover, liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) confirmed the presence of cholesterol in both P. tenera and perilla seed oil. The discrimination learning of multiple odors, in which multi-odor can be associated with different responses, is important for responding quickly and accurately to changes in the external environment. However, very few studies have been done on multi-odor discrimination by animal sniffing. Herein, we report a novel multi-odor discrimination system by detection rats based on the combination of 2-Choice and Go/No-Go (GNG) tasks into a single paradigm, in which the Go response of GNG was replaced by 2-Choice, for detection of toluene and acetone, which are odor indicators of lung cancer and diabetes, respectively. Three of six trained rats reached performance criterion, in 12 consecutive successful tests within a given set or over 12 sets with a success rate of over 90%. Through a total of 1300 tests, the trained animals (N = 3) showed multi-odor sensing performance with 88% accuracy, 87% sensitivity and 90% specificity. In addition, a dependence of behavior response time on odor concentrations under given concentration conditions was observed, suggesting that the system could be used for quantitative measurements. Furthermore, the animals' multi-odor sensing performance has lasted for 45 days, indicating long-term stability of the learned multi-odor discrimination. These findings demonstrate that multi-odor discrimination can be achieved by rat sniffing, potentially providing insight into the rapid, accurate and cost-effective multi-odor monitoring in the lung cancer and diabetes. Early detection is critical to successfully eradicating a variety of cancers, so the development of a new cancer primary screening system is essential. Herein, we report an animal nose sensor system for the potential primary screening of lung cancer. To establish this, we developed an odor discrimination training device based on operant conditioning paradigms for detection of toluene, an odor indicator component of lung cancer. The rats (N = 15) were trained to jump onto a floating ledge in response to toluene-spiked breath samples. Twelve rats among 15 trained rats reached performance criterion in 12 consecutive successful tests within a given set, or over 12 sets, with a success rate of over 90%. Through a total of 1934 tests, the trained rats (N = 3) showed excellent performance for toluene detection with 82% accuracy, 83% sensitivity, 81% specificity, 80% positive predictive value (PPV) and 83% negative predictive value (NPV). The animals also acquired considerable performance for odor discrimination even in rigorous tests, validating odor specificity. Since environmental and long-term stability are important factors that can influence the sensing results, the performance of the trained rats was studied under specified temperature (20, 25, and 30 °C) and humidity (30%, 45%, and 60% RH) conditions, and monitored over a period of 45 days. At given conditions of temperature and humidity, the animal sensors showed an average accuracy within a deviation range of ±10%, indicating the excellent environmental stability of the detection rats. Surprisingly, the trained rats did not differ in retention of last odor discrimination when tested 45 days after training, denoting that the rats' memory for trained odor is still available over a long period of time. When taken together, these results indicate that our odor discrimination training system can be useful for non-invasive breath testing and potential primary screening of lung cancer. This study investigates the optimization of the hull form of a tanker, considering the operational efficiency in waves, in accordance with the recent Energy Efficiency Design Index regulation. For this purpose, the total resistance and speed loss of the ship under representative sea conditions were minimized simultaneously. The total resistance was divided into three components: calm water resistance, added resistance due to wind, and to waves. The first two components were calculated using regression formulas, and the last component was estimated using the strip theory, far-field method, and the short-wave correction formula. Next, prismatic coefficient, waterline length, waterplane area, and flare angle were selected as design variables from the perspective of operational efficiency. The hull form was described as a combination of cross-sectional curves. A combination of the method shifting these sections in the longitudinal direction and the Free-Form Deformation method was used to deform the hull. As a result of applying the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm to a tanker, the hull was deformed thinner and longer, and it was determined that the total resistance and speed loss were reduced by 3.58 and 10.2%, respectively. In particular, the added resistance due to waves decreased significantly compared to the calm water resistance, which implies that the present tendency differs from conventional ship design that optimizes only the calm water resistance. HY-80 and HY-100 steels, widely used in constructing large ocean vessels and submarine hulls, contain mixed microstructures of tempered bainite and martensite and provide high tensile strength and toughness. Weld integrity in HY steels has been studied to verify and optimize welding conditions. In this study, the T-joint weld coupons, HY80 and HY100, were fabricated from HY-80 and HY-100 steel plates with a thickness of 30 mm as base metals by submerged-arc welding. Flux-cored arc welding was performed on an additional welding coupon consisting of HY-100 to evaluate the effect of repair welds (HY100RP). Microstructures in the heat-affected zones (HAZ) were thoroughly analyzed by optical observation. Instrumented indentation testing, taking advantage of local characterization, was applied to assess the yield strength and the residual stress of the HAZ and base regions. The maximum hardness over 400 HV was found in the HAZ due to the high volume fraction of untempered martensite microstructure. The yield strength of the weld coupons was evaluated by indentation testing, and the results showed good agreement with the uniaxial tensile test (within 10% range). The three coupons showed similar indentation residual stress profiles on the top and bottom surfaces. The stress distribution of the HY100 coupon was comparable to the results from X-ray diffraction. HY100RP demonstrated increased tensile residual stress compared to the as-welded coupon due to the effect of the repair weld (323 and 103 MPa on the top and bottom surfaces). The shipping company or the operator determines the mode of operation of a ship. In the case of container ships, there may be various operating patterns employed to arrive at the destination within the stipulated time. In addition, depending on the influence of the ocean's environmental conditions, the speed and the route can be changed. As the ship's fuel oil consumption is closely related to its operational pattern, it is possible to identify the most economical operations by analyzing the operational patterns of the ships. The operational records of each shipping company are not usually disclosed, so it is necessary to estimate the operational characteristics from publicly available data such as the automatic identification system (AIS) data and ocean environment data. In this study, we developed a visualization program to analyze the AIS data and ocean environmental conditions together and propose two categories of applications for the operational analysis of container ships using maritime big data. The first category applications are the past operation analysis by tracking previous trajectories, and the second category applications are the speed pattern analysis by shipping companies and shipyards under harsh environmental conditions. This study uses machine learning and population data to analyze major determinants of preterm birth including depression and particulate matter. Retrospective cohort data came from Korea National Health Insurance Service claims data for 405,586 women who were aged 25–40 years and gave births for the first time after a singleton pregnancy during 2015–2017. The dependent variable was preterm birth during 2015–2017 and 90 independent variables were included (demographic/socioeconomic information, particulate matter, disease information, medication history, obstetric information). Random forest variable importance was used to identify major determinants of preterm birth including depression and particulate matter. Based on random forest variable importance, the top 40 determinants of preterm birth during 2015–2017 included socioeconomic status, age, proton pump inhibitor, benzodiazepine, tricyclic antidepressant, sleeping pills, progesterone, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) for the years 2002–2014, particulate matter for the months January–December 2014, region, myoma uteri, diabetes for the years 2013–2014 and depression for the years 2011–2014. In conclusion, preterm birth has strong associations with depression and particulate matter. What is really needed for effective prenatal care is strong intervention for particulate matters together with active counseling and medication for common depressive symptoms (neglected by pregnant women). Hyperemesis gravidarum is known to be associated with poor perinatal outcomes. This study aimed to identify pre-pregnancy risk factors for hospital admission in women with hyperemesis gravidarum. We enrolled women who had delivered between 1 January 2013 and 31 December 2015, and had undergone a national health screening examination through the National Health Insurance Corporation 1–2 years before their first delivery. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to estimate the risk factors for hospital admission due to hyperemesis gravidarum. Of the 216,373 study participants with hyperemesis gravidarum, 2210 (1.02%) pregnant women were hospitalized. These women had lower waist circumference and were underweight based on body mass index compared to pregnant women who did not require hospitalization due to hyperemesis gravidarum. On multivariate analysis, primiparity, multiple pregnancies, female fetus, alcohol consumption, and pre-pregnancy underweight status were associated with an increased risk of hospitalization due to the condition. In this population-based cohort study, we found that hospitalization due to hyperemesis gravidarum was associated with pre-pregnancy lifestyle characteristics. Simple Summary: Three-dimensional (3D) culture of tumor spheroids (TSs) within the extracellular matrix (ECM) recapitulates solid tumors in vivo. Here, we report a 3D microtumor culture-to-3D visualization system using a minipillar array chip combined with a tissue optical clearing (TOC) method for high-content phenotypic analysis of microtumors. To prove the utility of this method, phenotypic changes in TSs of human pancreatic cancer cells were determined by co-culture with cancer-associated fibroblasts and M2-type tumor-associated macrophages. Significant improvement was achieved in immunostaining and optical transmission in each TS as well as the entire microtumor specimen, enabling optimization in image-based analysis of the morphology, structural organization, and protein expression in cancer cells and the ECM. Changes in the invasive phenotype, including cellular morphology and expression of epithelial–mesenchymal transition-related proteins and drug-induced apoptosis under stromal cell co-culture were also successfully analyzed. High-speed coherent optical communication has been expanding to handle the ever-increasing data traffic, and the large modulation bandwidth of electro-optic (EO) polymer modulators has been especially appreciated. However, to be useful in optical communication, the EO polymer device should address several issues, such as thermal stability, photo-oxidation, and bias drift. In this work, as a part of the experiments to address these challenges, an EO polymer with a fluorinated polyimide backbone is utilized to create EO polymer modulators with improved thermal stability. For their mooring on the sea, ships are equipped with mooring utilities such as anchors, anchor chains, and winches. To determine the specifications of these equipment, the equipment number of each ship must be calculated, and the formula used for calculating this number is provided by the classification society. However, as the equipment number formula was derived based on the tanker at the time of development, it may not be suitable for relatively recent types of ships, such as container ships and liquefied natural gas carriers. Therefore, in this study, the suitability of the equipment number formula was verified, and modified coefficients are proposed for the types of ships. First, the formula for calculating the drag force acting on the ship due to the wind and current was derived and compared with the equipment number formula. The meaning of each coefficient in the equipment number formula was analyzed using this process. Additionally, the mooring equipment, such as anchor and anchor chain, was selected based on the equipment number, and the holding power of the mooring equipment and the drag force acting on the ship was compared to verify the suitability of the equipment number formula for each type of ship. Atopic dermatitis (AD) is an inflammatory skin disease caused by an imbalance between Th1 and Th2 cells. AD patients suffer from pruritus, excessive dryness, red or inflamed skin, and complications such as sleep disturbances and depression. Although there are currently many AD treatments available there are insufficient data on their long-term stability and comparative effects. Moreover, they have limitations due to various side effects. Multipotent mesenchymal stem cells (M-MSCs) might have potential for next-generation AD therapies. MSCs are capable of immune function regulation and local inflammatory response inhibition. M-MSCs, derived from human embryonic stem cells (hESC), additionally have a stable supply. In L507 antibody array, M-MSCs generally showed similar tendencies to bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs), although the immunoregulatory function of M-MSCs seemed to be superior to BM-MSCs. Based on the characteristics of M-MSCs on immunoregulatory functions, we tested a M-MSC conditioned media concentrate (MCMC) in mice with AD lesions on their dorsal skin. MCMC significantly decreased RNA expression levels of inflammatory cytokines in the mouse dorsal skin. It also suppressed serum IgE levels. In addition, significant histopathologic alleviation was identified. In conclusion, secretions of M-MSCs have the potential to effectively improve AD-related inflammatory lesions. Installing renewable energy systems for zero-energy buildings has become increasingly common; building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) systems, which integrate PV modules into the building envelope, are being widely selected as renewable systems. In particular, owing to the rapid growth of information and communication technology, the requirement for appropriate operation and control of energy systems has become an important issue. To meet these requirements, a computational model is essential; however, some unmeasurable parameters can result in inaccurate results. This work proposes a calibration method for unknown parameters of a well-known BIPV model based on in situ test data measured over eight days; this parameter calibration was conducted via an optimization algorithm. The unknown parameters were set such that the results obtained from the BIPV simulation model are similar to the in situ measurement data. Results of the calibrated model indicated a root mean square error (RMSE) of 3.39 °C and 0.26 kW in the BIPV cell temperature and total power production, respectively, whereas the noncalibrated model, which used typical default values for unknown parameters, showed an RMSE of 6.92 °C and 0.44 kW for the same outputs. This calibration performance was quantified using measuring data from the first four days; the error increased slightly when data from the remaining four days were compared for the model tests. We reviewed the research and developments in the field of fatigue failure, focusing on very-high cycle fatigue (VHCF) of metals, alloys, and steels. We also discussed ultrasonic fatigue testing, historical relevance, major testing principles, and equipment. The VHCF behavior of Al, Mg, Ni, Ti, and various types of steels were analyzed. Furthermore, we highlighted the major defects, crack initiation sites, fatigue models, and simulation studies to understand the crack development in VHCF regimes. An effective analytical method was optimized for residues including chlorpyrifos–methyl, deltamethrin, fenoxanil, thiobencarb and fludioxonil in mealworms, the larval form of Tenebrio molitor. They are listed for pest control during wheat cultivation and can be found in wheat-bran feed for growing mealworms in South Korea. Analytes were extracted using acetonitrile and salt packet. Four clean-up methods ((1) MgSO4 + 25 mg PSA + 25 mg C18; (2) MgSO4 + 50 mg PSA + 50 mg C18; (3) EMR-lipidTM tube; and (4) 10 mL n-hexane) were investigated and the method (1) was selected due to its robustness. Low-temperature precipitation of fat and proteins improved the recoveries. Recoveries from the Method (1) were satisfying with 70–120% with <20% relative SD at a spiking level of 0.01 mg/kg. With the simultaneous sample preparation, fenoxanil, thiobencarb and fludioxonil were analyzed by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) and chlorpyrifos–methyl and deltamethrin by gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (GC–MS/MS). Quantification limits for LC–MS/MS and GC–MS/MS were 0.5 and 2.5 μg/L, respectively. No pesticides of interest were detected in 30 real samples collected across the nation. We report on the effects of the intense pulsed light (IPL) rapid annealing process and back-channel passivation on the solution-processed In-Ga-Zn-O (IGZO) thin film transistors (TFTs) array. To improve the electrical properties, stability and uniformity of IGZO TFTs, the oxide channel layers were treated by IPL at atmospheric ambient and passivated by photo-sensitive polyimide (PSPI). When we treated the IGZO channel layer by the IPL rapid annealing process, saturation field effect mobility and subthreshold swing (S.S.) were improved. And, to protect the back-channel of oxide channel layers from oxygen and water molecules, we passivated TFT devices with photo-sensitive polyimide. The IGZO TFTs on glass substrate treated by IPL rapid annealing without PSPI passivation showed the field effect mobility (μFE) of 1.54 cm2/Vs and subthreshold swing (S.S.) of 0.708 V/decade. The PSPI-passivated IGZO TFTs showed higher μFE of 2.17 cm2/Vs than that of device without passivation process and improved S.S. of 0.225 V/decade. By using a simple and fast intense pulsed light treatment with an appropriate back-channel passivation layer, we could improve the electrical characteristics and hysteresis of IGZO-TFTs. We also showed the improved uniformity of electrical characteristics for IGZO TFT devices in the area of 10 × 40 mm2.
